I had my 50th function upstairs in the Bay View Room. Bianca was a delight to deal with from my first point of contact up to the day before. Attentive and professional in her approach. All staff I have dealt with each time I have dined at True South are so happy and friendly. Food is always divine and would recommend this venue for any function or restaurant
We had the absolute best wedding party in the function room upstairs.
We received so many positive compliments around the location of the venue, the friendly staff but mostly the exceptional food on offer.

I've driven passed True South heaps and heaps of times, and always wanted to try it, yet never did ... until tonight. I am kicking myself that I never came sooner. It was really, really good.
The restaurant has a great vibe about it. For some people, they'd love to come in summer when out the front there are tables on the footpath and on the inner outside there are bar stools to sit and drink while watching the world go by. Inside, the restaurant has a clean, industrial feel to it. It was busy, but not overly loud. We were seated right away and your placemat is the menu, so you dive right into looking for things that grab your taste buds.
Many - if not all - dishes are great for sharing, so we started out with Chipas (mini cheese rolls, mandioca flour, cheddar and parmesan) and the Croquetas of the day, which were chicken and corn. Before those came, we were served up a mini bread roll each with an olive and ricotta dip. Very delicious. The entrees came out and they were heavenly. The Chipas were amazing and I could have just had several serves of those as my meal. The were like mini warm cheese scones. The croquetas were good; had a beautiful crumbing on the outside, but the inside was nice, though nothing to rave about.
For the main, I ordered my own Caviche de Salmon. It came with mango, cherry tomatoes, onion and plantain crisps. I didn't much care for the plantain crisps, and I hated the fact that there was coriander in the dish without it being listed on the menu. I would have asked for it without it, as I can't stand coriander. Yuck.
Of course, there was something that really stood out to me on the dessert menu, so I had to order it. It was a chocolate fondant, with banana and caramel ice cream. That sounded incredibly appealing and tasted really, really good. My only minor complaint about it, was that it was truly ICE cream. That almost ruined it, but the flavours were everything.
There was just a few things I didn't like about True South. One was the tables felt sticky. Two was that you could smell cigarette smoke from outside, even though it's illegal to smoke right outside an eatery. And three, because of the open shutters, it allowed for flies to fly in. Small things I guess in relation to how good the food and service was. Yes, the mains came out slowly, but they were really busy and food was continually leaving the kitchen.
Would I go back again?? YES, YES, YES. I really enjoyed the meal and it was something different to usual here in Melbourne. How authentic it is, I don't know. But if you want a great spot with good atmosphere, great food and reasonably priced meals, then this is the place for you. It's worth the drive.

Went here for lunch today - 5 adults and a 5 year old. It was AMAZING! highly recommend preordering the suckling pig. We got the 1/4, which serves 3-4, so that we could get some other things, and we were so glad we did! We also tried the ceviche, calamari, pork crackling, carpaccio and roast potatoes. Everything was amazing, but the carpaccio and ceviche, and of course the suckling pig, were standouts. We shared the churros and pudding for dessert, which were beautiful. Service was also attentive and friendly. Can’t wait to introduce more people to this little gem!
10/10 for service, 8/10 for food, 10/10 for shops appearance/decor. Our table wobbled the entire time which was very annoying to eat on. The waitress attempted to fix it once, I would have rather been offered another table to sit on. Food was fresh and lots of flavours
A local fav of mine & a fabulous addition to the bayside area! Always great vibes and a good time here. We’ve celebrated a lot of family functions here and I always find myself here enjoyed a beverage no matter the weather!
Havent been to True sputh for awhile. Please to see the quality is still kept up to the standard. Highlights: Creative, delicious and authentic south american food, home brewed beer, friendly services and kids friendly.
This is my local hangout. Food is great and staff are friendly and very attentive! However, cannot give the full 5 stars. This is due, in part, to the fact that a lot of the waiters are intimidating to speak to! In particular, there is a short hot young man with Blonde hair who is very attractive! Second of all there is a man behind the bar... he is clearly wearing a woman’s t-shirt. But Jesus he looked alright. Would highly recommend the Tigres ( tiger prawn gratin) , olives and the Humita ( Cheese and bread)
We couldn't decide what to order so on a whim, we opted for the $55 per person "Feed Me" and fed us they did. I left a bit regretful that my stomach capacity was not greater to cram it all in. True South's Feed Me option is really anything goes. They work around any food intolerance and you can nominate any dish you wish to be included.
Our dishes included: the slow cooked lamb shoulder, Cordero Asado, a full 500g braised shoulder. It sat on a bed of roasted potatoes. It was the stuff of Sunday roast dreams. Tender meat, falling off the bone. Loads of rosemary flavouring it.
The fish taco, Taco de Pescado, Ensalada de Palmitos. The barely seared tuna cubes were marinated with something yum. I couldn't quite place the ingredients in the marinade but whatever it was, it blended so well with the avocado and palm hearts.

A little while ago I celebrated my 50th birthday at True South. We had the most amazing night. Everyone kept raving about the venue, the food and the service throughout the night and for weeks afterwards.
There were about 35 of us, and I hired an acoustic guitarist. We all fit comfortably with room to spare (the room can cater for 50). There were helium balloons; I chose to have cocktail tables and stools, and we had our own bar inside the room. Because of the glass walls, we felt the ambiance of the kitchen and the restaurant, but could keep the door shut which made the space private. It also has a disabled toilet on the ground floor, so my elderly mum could manage going to the ladies with her walker.
The team at True South were so easy to deal with and delivered on every single thing I asked for, with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble. The food really was mouth-watering and plentiful. I had a tab open on the bar and paid minimum dollars up front - I was reimbursed quite a lot of money not used, very soon after the event.
I cannot speak highly enough about the night - without being too dramatic, it was one of the best nights of my life. I could not have chosen a better venue. Stylish, warm and inviting.
Very attentive, nice atmosphere and food was amazing. Had a couple of tapas, but the bread they bring out with the cheese is to die for!!! Amazing variety of drinks, lively atmosphere... traditional Argentinian food with a modern and authentic touch. Will be returning.
Truly amazing experience! The staff were lovely, food was incredibly tasty and different to anything I've had before. The quality of the meals really stood out, hats off to the chefs!

Such an amazing wedding venue! I photographed here for my business Carry Your Heart Photography and it is by far one of the best locations for fun, laid back weddings. The ceremony location is beautiful, the staff are friendly and the food is SO DELICIOUS! Can't wait to come back for another wedding here!
The perfect venue for a summer cocktail wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for the amazing staff and our guests were raving about the food and extensive bar. A huge thank you to Caitlin and Rebecca for making the planning process so fun and stress free. We’re looking forward to many more dinners here!

A Christmas dinner with a couple of my Cycling Buddies to feast on the little Pig. All the other food like Calamari, chips were delicious and the main meal little Porky Pig was awesome. Service was great, good drinks with great food works a treat.
