Looked very clean so I went in.
The cake display was amazing and knowledge was spot on. I purchased a Lemon Tart. Yummy. Excellent and quick service.

I was pleasantly introduced to this cake shop when a friend bought me a cake from my birthday and it knocked my socks off.
So when it was my turn to buy a cake for my significant other, Happy Jacques came to the top of my list. Stuck at work, I was pressed for time and had to order over the phone for a same day delivery which Vanessa was kind enough to accommodate. In fact, I even got text messages confirming delivery.
The cake was a Chocolate Royale and by jove it had me weak in the knees. I wouldn't do justice to the description in words but it was chocolate mousse with caramel on a crust and tastes simply divine.
I've ordered many cakes from the usual suspects - Brunetti, Laurent, etc. But Jacques has made me happiest and so this is where I plan to go in the future.
Shared the Lemon Tart Slice with a friend and yes was to die for.... Ordered a flat white coffee and a Short Mac, staff were happy and inviting. Both Superb - nothing more to say...wow!
This place is one of the best in Black Rock, it lacks pretentiousness and the price is perfect for the products. Honest, humble food along with friendly staff. Been here many times, never fails to please. Just beautiful
Good coffee, fresh butter croissants and a busy Sunday morning in the sun. The bike riders are able to place their bikes out of harms way to allow the casual visitor a good experience rather than being cornered by adrenaline and sweat. The breakfast sandwiches I found too small, and it would be great to promote freshly made juices. Will be back.
Love the Almond Croissant! Ended up driving nearly 2 hours to get some Almond Croissants & was well worth it. Phoned earlier to see if they had any, so we don't get disappointed & the lovely lady offered to hold them for us as they sell out quick. Very nice to offer & when we arrived, they were there waiting for us. Nice coffee & lovely staff, I just wish I lived closer as no other Almond Croissant is as good as Depot De Pain's.

Viva La France in Blackrock. Jacques Depot de Pain brings the much needed French bakery basics to the village of Blackrock. Your daily visits for great coffee, fresh croissants and rustic breads will spark memories of your first adventure in France until you hear the Aussie accents at the adjoining table:)
LOCATION
Situated in the middle of Blackrock village on Bluff Road you can plonk yourself on one of the outdoor tables and watch the world go by before realizing 2 hours have passed. I find sitting inside too much of a tease given the temptation of pastries on display
FOOD & SERVICE
The consistently friendly french lady offers high levels of service backed up with tasty French fancies. On each of my visits I noticed a high turnover of clients purchasing pastries goods to eat on the premise and takeaway. The high turnover of customers suggests rapid turnover of quality products , in short FRESH which is important to me.
The coffee may be ever so slightly more expensive than other local cafes but I will mention that it consistently tastes great. The range of pastries and breads entice you to eat more than you should but remember you can walk it off along Blackrock beachfront. The salted caramel eclairs are top of the list with Jaffa a close second. The buttery croissants will tease your waistline but keep a keen eye out for their tarts
I'm afraid my sweet tooth hasn't allowed me to try any of the lunch items yet but I have overheard positive comments on neighboring tables about the Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls and Traditional Chicken Baguettes. I"ll keep you posted on taste testing shortly
OTHER STUFF
Unexpected generosity stops me in my tracks. Yesterday I was pleasantly surprised when the French store owner approached our table and the other remaining customers with a bag containing a couple of Pain Au Chocolat to take home and enjoy. This small gesture has not only assured me that baked products are not utilised the following day and always fresh but also the owner genuinely appreciates her clientele. This simple gesture will keep me returning
Me n my girlfriends always pop in for afternoon coffee here once a week very nice coffee n very French patisserie I always love almond croissant here our kids always pick a cake from the display most staff are nice we still come here at least once a week
Celebration Cake. Ordered the 50 ball croquembouche for funnily enough, a 50th birthday and it looked fabulous. It was a hit with the guests... both adults and kids alike and with a generous overlay of spun sugar it promised much... suffice to say it rocked.
Very clean, beautiful atmosphere and lovely food. In addition the people are just lovely and make you feel welcome. Favourite cafe in Black Rock. Hard workers that are open in very flexible times. Always come here and love it and the people so much!
Popped in for lunch today based on other reviews and was not disappointed . Beautiful selection of cakes, pastries and lunch items. Coffee was excellent. Staff were very friendly and super quick service. Thank you :)
My favourite sign is on their banners and in their windows and on their coffee machine VITTORIA my favourite coffee EVER it's 100% Arabica Australian owned. There is not the bitterness of your average Cafe coffees.
Exquisite choice of pastries and little cakes.
I had the most exquisite lemon meringue tartlet..every mouthful was a delight.

JACQUES sits amongst some heavy hitting ( popular) cafes and after walking in to two other cafes eg Flavours and Cafeteria Jacques won my business ...Flavours had minute variety and appeared tired Cafeteria was busy but didn't have the same quality pastries and little cakes.
Happy JACQUES was my choice and I will be returning.
Nice staff, good (French) bakery. Coffee is fine. We went here recently as our fav coffee spot too Xmas vacation. We went twice and enjoyed the bakery choice and the pleasant service. We've walked by hundreds of times and they have a strong regular client base so it’s a safe choice.

Great coffee and sweets, before leaving decided to get some fresh bread. Absolutely wonderful. Great location and awesome staff.
