Souffle pancakes were amazing.
The food and drink was good, however you had to get past the slow service.
No one came to take our order or bring water until we came and asked, not enough t fr8nt of house staff on the floor. However, when we went to pay the gave us 10% off, although we had not complained.
It was great to know that they recognised their flaws.
This cafe opened up in the early half of 2019 and has established itself as a favourite in the neighbourhood.
🔆LOCATION🔆
Little Wattlebird Cafe is not easy to find especially if it's your first time as it is not on the main street of Blackburn Road, it's shopfront faces the back-end alley where the open space car park is situated.
The cafe is situated at the back building of the Australian Skin Clinic and Zap Fitness that faces the front of Blackburn Road, but the cafe is right at the back.
You can enter via Blackburn Road into a small strip of parking where Food Republic Cafe is located, or you can drive in further to the back and turn right where there is large open space parking and the cafe is on the right hand side. Should you enter onto South Parade street, immediately turn left into the side alley street and drive in further to park on the right hand side and the cafe is on the left. If you have missed the turn off into the side alley, you can drive further down and turn left into Gardenia street, and then turn left into the open space car park.
The cafe itself is very spacious and nicely laid out. There is a long table just at the entrance for large groups, and in the middle are a few bench seatings as well as along the back.
Dark brown wooden tables and black legs with matching chairs makes the cafe look like its set in the country. Fresh green plants are dotted around, and some featured within large cages. There is a large refrigerated counter next to the register which has lots of interesting cakes and slices.
🔆SERVICE🔆
Service is very relaxed, casual yet friendly. It was very busy when I went there for lunch, so I did have to wait a little while to have a staff acknowledge me and take me to a table. Besides that, service for food was pretty efficient and didn't have to wait for long.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
Chicken Super Salad, $18.50
(Grilled chicken, charred corns, pickled cabbage, mushrooms, zucchini noodles, carrot, candied walnut, house dressing, truffle oil)
Hot Chocolate, $4.00
🔆VERDICT🔆
It took me a while to decide what to order as there were a number of dishes that looked quite good.
The Chicken Super Salad was a generous size, and portion of grilled chicken pieces were quite good. The chicken was tender and marinated lightly (possibly Soy sauce?). The endive lettuce is naturally a bitter in taste but was fresh and was good balance with the candied walnut and delicious truffle oil. I think there was also mix of little gem lettuce which is light flavour. I found the dressing was a bit too sour for my liking, if the dressing was changed to something else it could be even better. I really enjoyed the zucchini noodles, if anything there wasnt enough of it.
I would like to return as I am keen to try The Beef Bowl, Salmon Rosti and Wattlebird's Linguine.
Great food, environment and friendly staff! Would definitely recommend coming to visit this hidden cafe right around the corner from Blackburn Station! Will be back for sure!! Thanks for the great food 😍
Hidden little gem of a cafe in the back alley of Blackburn. Super friendly staff and delicious food. Guacamole toast was excellent and shrimp burger was tasty too. Ordered the souffle pancake but had to cancel due to out own time restraints and the waiter was super apologetic and gave us a pastry on the house even though it wasn’t their fault. Will be back to try the pancake!
Delicious brunch and excellent service. We ordered the big breakfast, beef bowl and linguine which were all really good. A slight mix up with our orders was well handled by the waiters, who were extremely apologetic. Desserts were also yummy.
Caught-up with friends to try out this new cafe. I had the Breakfast Board and the others had Avocado n Eggs, Big Breakfast, and the Salmon Rosti. The food was delicious, generous servings, and everyone was very satisfied. The matcha latte was too strong and bitter however. Luckily the Breakfast Board came with a freshly squeezed OJ.

Lovin’ this new spot very spot Blackburn station 🚉 Unlike other spots, it’s very spacious, comfortable and has a great selection of food, drinks and ☕️ We’ll come back!
Cute little cafe hidden behind the main road. Ice you park in the back parking you will find it very easily. The staff are nice and the homemade muffin was delicious! Cute coffee art! Highly recommend :)
Tucked away from the main street of Blackburn Rd we found Little Wattle Cafe. Its not an easy find but if you know the back carpark then you wouldn't have an issue.
We were greeted by a lovely waitress that was very attentive. We ordered a caramel milkshake, match latte and an ice coffee for our drinks. Presentation was very lovely but wouldn't say the flavors were the best. The milkshake was too sweet and the ice coffee was little bitter. My matcha latte wasn't mixed properly which had many lumpy bits, it was also too much match powder. If they reduced the amount of powder then it would have been lovely cause too much match made it bitter. I couldnt add sugar to sweeten it cause it wasn't warm enough either.
As for food we ordered the linguini, smoke salmon rosti, beef bowl and the tiramisu soufle pancake. The flavors were good but just didn't do the trick for us. The only thing we liked was the pancake and the beef bowl but just a little to much ginger. Comparing to other cafes, i would say the food is pretty average and doesn't make me crave to go again. I just found that they were trying to be like those up beat cafes where their meals are spectacular and the flavors they combine really make u wanna go back.
They seemed to be korean but not 100% sure, which there is no issue at all but thought if they were korean, they should make meals more like a korean fusion.
With a few cafes that around the area that already have a good reputation, they need to be a little different.
Best souffle pancakes - they were soft and fluffy, and presentation was so on point! Will definitely be back for more! Staff were also really friendly. Highly recommend this cafe :)
Little wattle bird is a spacious cafe with very friendly staff! My friend and I got the beef bowl (without chickpeas), chicken super salad and I got a caramel shake. The beef bowl was delicious! The beef was juicy & succulent & they weren’t stingy on it. I also really liked the purple rice. Never seen that before!
My friends chicken super salad was good. The chicken looked really nice & there was plenty of it. The caramel shake was so sweet! Just the way I like it.
Service was awesome. The employees there were really friendly. Even if you don’t want to a meal they did cakes as well which looked awesome 🍰

We've found a new fave local! Been back a few times to Little Wattlebird and the food is always consistently good.
The best souffle pancakes, great value for money brekky board, delicious prawn linguine and the burger is also good. And the kids pancake which is a smaller version of the souffle pancake is a generous size for the little ones.
Great set up and very spacious. Food and atmosphere on point!
This cafe is tucked away and a little hard to find.
Lovely decor and friendly staff. I ordered a matcha latte and soft shell crab croissant. The matcha wasn't the best I've had, but the soft shell crab croissant was delicious. Despite the crab being fried, it was not oily and worked really well with the rest of the dish. The portion size was also very generous, which is always a plus!
Glad we’ve found this lovely little local. Quiet, great atmosphere and service. Food was delicious, so many different brunch options and all beautifully presented. The cake display also looked fabulous.
Had lunch at this hidden local cafe on a casual Sunday. Ambience was nice. I had the beef bowl which was delicious and colourful. Husband had the fritters which were a bit dry. Would come back to try out the other dishes on the menu.
Pleasant new cafe in a non descript strip near Blackburn station. Menu was Asian influenced but not too pretentious. Food tasty, fresh and good sized portions (beef burger was thicccck). The cafe space is so nice - brightly lit/lots of natural light - wooden touches - greenery. Staff were lovely and came back often to check on us. Will return and happy to recommend.
Had brekkie here and it was pretty tasty. My gf was happy with her poached eggs, and I found the fluffy pancakes quite nice and fruity. Would recommend a visit
A perfect place to hangout in Blackburn! I wish I took more pictures of the interiors because they seemed to have put a lots of effort into making this place look beautiful and although you might not spot it straight away from the main road, it definitely is a place you shouldn’t miss out! I’m so glad that Little Wattlebird Cafe opened in Blackburn, saves me a trip to the city now! 😍

I'm so glad I discovered this little local gem around Blackburn Station. Even though it's only been opened for around 2 months, it's ticking all of the cafe boxes for me! So much greenery throughout the restaurant which made it perfect to sit in on a warm Autumn day!
From classic milkshakes to a very modern take on chilli scrambled eggs, everything was so tasty. I've never had soft shell crab served in a croissant... But now that I have I'm never turning back! This dish was a rich one, with the buttery croissant, battered soft shell crab & smooth scrambled eggs. However, I loved every bite of it. I'll definitely be coming back to eat it again!
The food came out fast & hot. Special shout out to Joel for being such a friendly, charismatic waiter!
Friendly staff, good coffee and delicious vegetarian options on the menu (including a beautiful mermaid smoothie bowl) - a welcome addition to the Eastern Suburbs cafe scene! Will be back for sure!!
Little Wattlebird has the best coffee ever! I’ve been to this cafe twice and the taste of the coffee always surprises me. Love the wagyu beef in the beef bowl. Great customer service nevertheless!
We ordered a Latte and a flat white. Good coffee. Liked the breakfast burger as well. Will visit again and try some of the other breakfast options.
Tried this new cafe out for lunch today and really like the light and airy ambiance. Super salad was super lovely and iced latte was very smooth. Will be back again. 😀
tried this beautiful new cafe in Blackburn today and i am super satisfied!
the minute we walked in, staff were so friendly and welcoming! the cafe felt really calm and relaxing and looks absolutely beautiful with their decor! being a week day it was actually quite busy but service was amazing! the staff always asked how everything was going and if we were enjoying everything
i had the mermaid smoothie bowl which really excited me when i read it on the menu!!! oh my god it was so yummy and portion was sooo generous! it was a tasty smoothie bowl with delicious seasonal fruits on top, presentation was so gorgeous to look at!! my friends meals also looked really good with generous portions too!
i think we will be back! have to try more food from the amazing selection of meals :) :)
Lovely staff, great ambiance, it was very calming. They were really busy when I visited on a weekend. I tired a regular latte and the savory crumpets, while my friend tried a soy chai and the salmon rosti. Both dishes had nice combinations and flavors. The coffee is from Padre and I have always loved their coffee since I tried in at Mr. Hendrick. Overall a really lovely new addition to the area!
Great service, all staff were very attentive. Good variety of food that was very tasty, really liked the crispy prawn burger. Table spacing is good with fair room between tables. Have been back twice and consistency of service and quality of food is very good. Can be noisy when busy, could do with some soft fabrics to soften the noise.
This will become a regular for us.
A great addition to the neighbourhood. Coffee is good, beans from Padre coffee. Menu contains standard cafe offerings and a bit limited but quality of food is decent. The shrimp ‘fillet’ in the shrimp burger was full of shrimp. As for the breakfast board, avocado was not quite ripe and halloumi was a bit rubbery but it came with freshly squeezed orange juice as part of the set. Tasteful and spacious interior, will definitely return.
Amazing local cafe using good quality of coffee beans from padre and super good quality milk from st David dairy!
Good quality Match green tea latte which made us very satisfied! 😇
Great fit-out and very comfortable space, staffs are very helpful and friendly, foods are good size and well presented. Barista are great with stable quantities of drinks which is very important.
The crispy prawn burger is to die for.
Thank you team for great works 😊
Lovely little gem near the station. Food was delicious. It is my third visit here and would be coming back for more.
The Salmon Rosti was the right crunch.
The souffle pancake is a good alternative to the one I had in Japan. Good "bounce" and texture.
The mushroom was delicious.
First two time were impressed,
the third time visit on last Melb Cup day was.. a bit disappointed both the food (some prawn pasta & big brekkie ) and coffee
Have been here several times and love it! The interior is super cute, staff are very friendly without being overbearing and the food is delicious. There's so many cafes to choose from in Blackburn but this is by far the best one I've found! The souffle pancake is amazing!!
Loved this new cafe! Delicious iced latte's and yummy breakfasts. Highly recommended and will definitely be back.
Food and coffee was great! The prawn patty burger I tried was so good! It was so hard to choose one from their amazing menu! Highly recommend :) Friendly staff too 😊
A nice cafe in Blackburn neighborhood. We had the salmon rosti which was delicious and the souffle pancake. Thumbs up for both. They're using Padre coffee beans.
We love this cafe, the staff are very friendly. The food is amazing along with the coffee.
