Souffle pancakes were amazing.
The food and drink was good, however you had to get past the slow service.
No one came to take our order or bring water until we came and asked, not enough t fr8nt of house staff on the floor. However, when we went to pay the gave us 10% off, although we had not complained.
It was great to know that they recognised their flaws.
This cafe opened up in the early half of 2019 and has established itself as a favourite in the neighbourhood.
🔆LOCATION🔆
Little Wattlebird Cafe is not easy to find especially if it's your first time as it is not on the main street of Blackburn Road, it's shopfront faces the back-end alley where the open space car park is situated.
The cafe is situated at the back building of the Australian Skin Clinic and Zap Fitness that faces the front of Blackburn Road, but the cafe is right at the back.
You can enter via Blackburn Road into a small strip of parking where Food Republic Cafe is located, or you can drive in further to the back and turn right where there is large open space parking and the cafe is on the right hand side. Should you enter onto South Parade street, immediately turn left into the side alley street and drive in further to park on the right hand side and the cafe is on the left. If you have missed the turn off into the side alley, you can drive further down and turn left into Gardenia street, and then turn left into the open space car park.
The cafe itself is very spacious and nicely laid out. There is a long table just at the entrance for large groups, and in the middle are a few bench seatings as well as along the back.
Dark brown wooden tables and black legs with matching chairs makes the cafe look like its set in the country. Fresh green plants are dotted around, and some featured within large cages. There is a large refrigerated counter next to the register which has lots of interesting cakes and slices.
🔆SERVICE🔆
Service is very relaxed, casual yet friendly. It was very busy when I went there for lunch, so I did have to wait a little while to have a staff acknowledge me and take me to a table. Besides that, service for food was pretty efficient and didn't have to wait for long.
🔆MENU/PRICE🔆
Chicken Super Salad, $18.50
(Grilled chicken, charred corns, pickled cabbage, mushrooms, zucchini noodles, carrot, candied walnut, house dressing, truffle oil)
Hot Chocolate, $4.00
🔆VERDICT🔆
It took me a while to decide what to order as there were a number of dishes that looked quite good.
The Chicken Super Salad was a generous size, and portion of grilled chicken pieces were quite good. The chicken was tender and marinated lightly (possibly Soy sauce?). The endive lettuce is naturally a bitter in taste but was fresh and was good balance with the candied walnut and delicious truffle oil. I think there was also mix of little gem lettuce which is light flavour. I found the dressing was a bit too sour for my liking, if the dressing was changed to something else it could be even better. I really enjoyed the zucchini noodles, if anything there wasnt enough of it.
I would like to return as I am keen to try The Beef Bowl, Salmon Rosti and Wattlebird's Linguine.
Great food, environment and friendly staff! Would definitely recommend coming to visit this hidden cafe right around the corner from Blackburn Station! Will be back for sure!! Thanks for the great food 😍
