Review Tea Gardens Hotel - Bondi

Where the Irish and English all hang out every weekend all weekend. Iconic among the expat community. But a bit of a kip if I’m honest! Good craic but not the nicest bar

Great upstairs balcony and good vibe down stairs in the court yard, especially on Friday and Sunday nights. Some sort of raffle most other nights of the week and happy hour til 6 down stairs.

14/5 I had a friend birthday party at this place, I had a ticket for the night but I arrived at 11pm as I finished work late and I was tired. I live in Northern Beaches so also I took 1 hour to arrive there. The guy at the front didn’t alow me to go in saying they had full capacity and I decided to wait for people to leave and I go in but even than he didn’t alow me to go in. My friend that was waiting for me to celebrate her birthday went out to see me and the guy was rude with her screaming that nobody could go in and if she went out to speak with me she wouldn’t be able to come back in. Seriously the worse service! Not coming again ever.

Good service, nice atmosphere. All the bartenders are really friendly and you can even hire half the venue for your group of favourite people.

I would give 0 if it was possible, rude staff, bouncers are rude to customers all the time (except if you are a girl). When it gets busy it is full of junkies in the toilets. I wouldn't recommend this place if you care about your safety and well being. The Irish manager should be breaking stones instead of dealing with people.

Lots of different areas with a different mood or feel, great staff. The food is awesome and the lunch deals are really cheap . Security has obviously changed since they are friendly and helpful now. Great vibe in lots of the spaces and guiness on tap downstairs

The tank beer here is really good, but the staff need to lift up their standard of customer service and be quick to smile and serve everyone.

$14 for a schooner of Asahi. Lied to me told me the glass was almost a pint size, but it was only 400ml, less than a schooner. Such a rip off. Only reason I give 3 stars is I like the upstairs and have been coming to this place for years.

Nothing wrong with atmosphere and drinks although the food was the worst food I have ever had. Maybe was the food I ate. The chicken wings and meat lovers pizza. The beef on the pizza tasted like the cold beef you put on school sandwiches and the chicken was not cooked, warm and just not good.

Very nice place for drinks and food! The fish & chips was EXCELLENT I would highly recommend. The reason why I've given it 4 stars because the only downside you can't dine on the perfectly nice balcony, overlooking the beautiful city (sadface) but yu can sip & smoke on there if yu like!! Overall I had a good time

Been my home for the last 5 years... Sure it's been a bumpy ride from time to time but I will never give it up.

Have been waiting more then an hour for food , you would think they would put on more staff when they know it will be busy. Not happy

Folks this place is pure disgustin i wudnt take my dog in here. I made comment on their page yeaterday bout their food made me and mary sick but they deleted it. There was flies all over the free pizza they gave last friday and me and mary were pure sick from it. Was comin out at both ends if ye know wat i mean. All staff pure rude to us aswell cus we wernt drinkin alcohol and just came for the free food. I hope this place gets burnt to the ground it wud do everyone a favor they only care bout makin money and servin people drink til they are unconcius on the ground. All bouncers pure brutes aswell and not braincell between them they just go around beatin up all the drunkest people there i seen it myself they take lads out the back and punch them hard as they can. Stay away folks

My wife and I came here on a Thursday night for a casual dins. I’ve passed this place many times, but this was the first time actually taking the plunge and going inside. We went up to the second floor bistro, called the “Balcony Bar” and were surprised to find people smoking. It seems that the back part of the bistro, near the toilets, is a smoking area, but the front is smoke-free. As it was a chilly night, we didn’t venture onto the balcony outside, where there are also tables, but it seemed as if there were people smoking there as well.

The place is quite spacious, with comfy chairs and original wooden features. Even though it was a weeknight, it was still quite full so it’s obviously popular with the locals. That’s not surprising, since its been here for decades, or as long as I can remember going back to the mid 80s. It seems to be the one constant feature of a ever-changing Bondi Junction skyline.

Ordering is pretty straightforward. Just go up to the little counter, place your order, pay and take a number to plonk on your table. We ordered a bruschetta salad, beef and guinness pie (off the specials “Oktoberfest” menu) and a peri peri chicken burger. Service was friendly, fast and efficient and within about 10 minutes of ordering, the salad was on the table. The ingredients were fresh and tasty, with lashings of rocket, tomato, onion and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. In an interesting touch, right in the middle of the salad was a big crunchy piece of garlic bread. A great way to start a meal. It wasn’t long before the rest of the dishes were on the table. My beef and guinness pie had a warm fluffy pastry and inside the pie were chunky pieces of tender beef in a rich gravy. It was served with crispy chips and a small helping of salad. A very tasty meal. My wife’s burger had a generous piece of succulent chicken breast on a fresh bun, with lettuce, tomato, cheese, mayo and guacamole, topped off with a tangy peri peri sauce and accompanied by a small basket of chips. A nice concoction which she enjoyed.

All up, for that lot, we paid a modest $49. Drinks are pretty reasonable too. For a schooner of Great Northern Ale and a glass of sparkling white wine, we paid $15.

Toilets are reasonably clean and well stocked, but no hand towels, only a painfully slow 1980s style hand dryer.

Location is super convenient on the cnr of Oxford St and Bronte Rd, next to the Bronte St entrance of Westfield. If you arrive after 6.00pm, you can park for free at Westfield, other times, you’ll still get two hours free.

My only gripe is that it can be a tad noisy, with all that wood and glass, and no carpets or sound absorbers. And the toleration of smoking seems a bit odd in this day and age, and ensures that part of the place is out-of-bounds for non smokers.

Was surprisingly impressed with this pub.
We sat upstairs and had a lovely area to sit with work colleagues to have a drink. Then we proceeded to have dinner there. The food was great, fresh, warm, tasty and well priced. Good place to pop out to for a quick meal or quiet drinks mid week.
Steph
At the bar, our first cocktail was not what it was supposed to be so we changed for a more classic one, although it was spoilt again. As much as bartenders tried to fix the issue, we definitely did not feel their motivation to be working behind the bar.

It's a nice place to pop in every now and then for a quick drink with friends and colleagues and they got my favourite cider on tap, the Kopparberg! Easygoing with a nice outside area.

I've been a regular for 2 years and since the change in staff the service has been great - although it was not as bad as the other poster stated! BTW- Back to the good old days of Jugs and Glass Schooners. Food is good and lunch deals are great! New cocktail menus for those that want it...

The new renovation upstairs is HORRIBLE. Half as much seating on the balcony, art deco charm replaced with generic ikea inspired furnature, no more jugs of beer, plastic beer glasses instead! Service has declined, no one around to clear filthy tables and the price of beer seems to have risen to club prices! Avoid.
