Review The Drop In - Boronia

Today's was 1degree in morning and although sunny 🌞 day, very cold, I "Dropped in" to this Cafe. Was met with good service, pleasant atmosphere and nice Flat white and a Nachos- soup, mex seasoning. Was yummy, enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

What a quirky cafe! Loved the cosy and warm feel. A big selection of homemade cakes to choose from. Good coffee and good service!

Typical of cafĂ©s around Boronia unfortunately, in that they charge city cafĂ© prices but the portion sizes are just so tiny. This was my takeaway “nourish bowl” for $18. Sunglasses for reference to how small it was. Reasonable price for that size would be $10 max. Pieced together it would be 3 small falafel patties, 3 raspberries, a thin sliver of avocado and some spinach. I could buy those ingredients in their entirety (punnet of raspberries, a whole avo, bag of spinach, bag of falafel) for less than $18. I try to give local places a try but am always disappointed.

The jazz music in the background suits the atmosphere so well! The tea selection is broad and the deserts are fabulous. Will come again😍

A hidden gem in Boronia! From the moment you walk into the Drop In cafe, you know you are stepping into somewhere different. The decorative pieces are a combination of kitsch, whimsical, retro, classical with lashings of pop culture moments. Each trinket and piece of serving ware 'shouldn't' go together, but they do. It may be mismatched, but it's cohesive. We were treated to a high tea for two. For the price point, this was incredibly good value. The high tea platter maintains its traditional fare but with added twists. I understand that menu items vary based on what's in stock, which means there is innovation. It would be unfair to specify what I did have, because you might not get them the next time. The tea selection however, is consistent and extensive. As mentioned, the servingware is quite the treat. I also took home a vanilla slice for my friend's parents and they loved it. Creamy vanilla filling, flaky pastry. One of the better vanilla slices they've had. I wasn't expecting to enjoy the Drop In as much as I did, but it's definitely worth a visit. In an food scene where High Tea can get feel dated, the Drop In stands out.

Googled this place because is near Tim Neville Arboretum. The cafe is a little gem. Friendly staff and beautiful crepes. We will definitely go again

Go here semi frequently. Two schnitzel sandwiches, chips and two drinks are about $35. Not bad. Sangers are great and everything cooked fresh to order.

Recommended by a friend, so called in today to have a large flat white. Very friendly service and the coffee was very nice, you must check this wonderful little place out. Looks like some delicious items on the menu that I am keen to try out next time. Probably the crepes. Special thanks to Maddi for looking after us so well. Looking forward to experiencing again the character and charm that this little cafe exudes. Give them a try... Well here I am again, this time for a delicious coffee and a delightful scone with jam and cream. Fantastic service again, well worth a try.

It's not often that you walk into a cafe and feel like you stepped right into your grandmother's sitting room, but this is the emotional response that the owners of The Drop In Cafe in Boronia wanted. This small space is decorated in an eclectic manner, with mismatching furniture and crockery, and ornaments everywhere. It lends a sense of fun and cosiness that instantly makes you feel at home. The fact that it was a full house when we visited, and the locals greeted each other by name, suggests that this is the local hang out for many people; and with it's friendly vibe I can understand why. <br/><br/>The menu is quite different to your usual standard cafe fare, with some interesting concepts that worked really well. We started with the turmeric eggs, and this golden scramble came served with a heap of homemade roti bread and fruit chutney. The chutney added a touch of sweetness to this savoury plate, and the creamy eggs worked so well with the crispy bread. <br/><br/>We finished with the berry crepes, and these yogurt filled crepes not only looked amazing, they tasted divine. The crepes were perfectly light and the abundance of berries made it a generous dish. <br/><br/>The Drop In specialises in tea, although coffee is also available. However, with so many varieties on offer, we stepped away from our usual coffee and tried some of the gorgeous teas. The blue pea blossom tea was fantastic, and I loved that it turned purple when you added lemon juice. We also tried a hibiscus flower tea, and this pretty pink tea was also refreshing and tasty. The way the teas were presented was so beautiful, and it made the whole experience even more fun. <br/><br/>With a large selection of home made cakes available, and high teas available to be booked; the tea experience is definitely at the heart of this cafe. With such passionate owners, fantastic food and the cutest location; stopping by The Drop In Cafe is like visiting family, and you will feel so comfortable that you will find it difficult to leave.

Discovered this gorgeous little local cafe in Boronia, where we had a truly amazing experience. <br/><br/>Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the owner, Alpa, and I immediately felt at home. Just one glance around and I fell in love with the unique decorations and Bohemian vibes - a small but very cosy and welcoming little place. <br/><br/>They offer breakfast and lunch, beautiful high tea, a cake range that’s complete home-made, and an extensive list of specialty teas that’ll make any tea-lover’s dream come true.<br/><br/>We opted for breakfast and had the Turmeric Eggs, the Fritters (which were on special) and the French Crepes with Berries+Yoghurt.<br/><br/>The Turmeric Eggs were delicious! The scrambled eggs were very fluffy and a vibrant yellow colour from the turmeric, which was lovely and not overpowering. I loved the crispy Malaysian roti and chutney which I think complemented the eggs really well. <br/><br/>The Fritter on special, which came with smoked salmon, was probably my favourite dish of the day. The corn fritters were the perfect texture - crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, and not too heavy nor doughy. The corn added a nice pop of sweetness too, and the smoked salmon was delicious. <br/><br/>Finally, the French Crepes made the perfect sweet ending to our meal. The crepes were incredibly delicate, light and fluffy - it was honestly amazing. The yoghurt added a nice creaminess and tartness, along with the fresh raspberries, and some added texture from the granola. I really loved that the dish was not too sweet at all - instead it was very light and refreshing! My kind of dessert! <br/><br/>For drinks, we tried the Betjeman & Barton Fruits Bambou tea and the Butterfly Pea Flower tea. The fruity tea was so lovely and my favourite of the two. I also had an almond latte and I can confirm that the coffee here is amazing too. <br/><br/>The Drop In is definitely worth a visit!<br/><br/>Thank you so much for having us!

<br/><br/>"It’s just a jump to the left. And then a step to the right"
. <br/><br/>I felt like I’d stepped into a time warp while in Boronia this week. Admittedly, I am a dreamer, so when I discover a cafĂ© that has me reflecting on the beauty in history, and traditional hospitability, I revel in it. <br/><br/>The ‘Drop In Café’ in Boronia does exactly this, and it’s all thanks to Alpa Patel. Alpa was inspired by her grandmother, when as a child; Apla remembers her being the provider of a home that was open to all, with cakes waiting to be devoured, and the aroma from large pots of masala chai infusing the room. <br/><br/>The Drop has a Parisian, eclectic, and bohemian feel, with an eclectic mix of collectables and treasures from the yester-years.  <br/><br/> Homemade cakes presented under vintage cloches adorn the display cabinets, and a drinks trolley holds the range of alcohol beverages on offer. <br/><br/> The menu presents a simple yet wholesome breakfast and lunch menu, as well as High Tea. It’s ingenious, considering the venue has no commercial kitchen, and Alpa is known to use produce brought in from locals.  <br/><br/>Think Turmeric Eggs served with crispy Malaysian roti; and ‘Mexicorn’ fritters with house taco seasoning. I couldn’t resist the Butterfly pea flower tea, which had a theatrical twist.  <br/><br/>The Drop is more than a cafĂ©. It’s a healing space, with lots of heart, and an operator who treats it like her home. No wonder I lost track of time here!<br/><br/> <br/><br/>

It’s always a pleasure to be welcomed into a homely cafĂ© where the owner speaks so passionately and proudly of the food they present to their happy customers. The epitome of this was our visit to The Drop In CafĂ©, Boronia. Despite the 1.5 hour trek from the Melbourne city area, the cosy vibes, antique – styled, eccentric dĂ©cor of this cafĂ©, and of course, the warm hospitality of the husband and wife owners, certainly made it all worth it.

What an absolutely gorgeous cafe! The coffee was fantastic, the staff and owners are lovely and the ambience was perfection. I can't wait to come back and try more of their menu!

Best coffee and ambience in Boronia. Crepes with coconut are amazing and mezze platter was out of this world. Is now my local. The staff are lovely and I love the old world touch.

The felling you get on entering this Cafe is one of serenity and familiarity. The quality of both service and food is second to none, with wholesome flavours and conversation to match. So if you love good food in a great atmosphere then this is the place to be.

Just Got a coffee here. Despite not being busy they were very casual about serving me, you get the sense that these ppl don't know the meaning of prompt. It came out in about 10minutes....Then it was insanely burningly hot, honestly I'm a rep so Im all over Melbourne getting 2-3 coffees everyday in all sorts of locations so I know the standard temperature varies slightly but this was dangerously hot.Wont be back. Ever. Luckily a burnt mouth heals fairly quickly. <br/>If I had taken a huge gulp of this scorchingly boiling drink Id probably be in real medical trouble. DANGEROUS!

Been here yesterday. The coffee is probably the best I've had in Boronia. A spicy fried rice and all served up in a very homely atmosphere. Menu seems to change apparently so I'll be sure to drop in again. Thanks!

Went for lunch, my meal was pretty good. Felt like though it at been reheated and not fresh. Still tasty though. My biggest disappointment is a pot of tea should have tea leaves not a tea bag. Nice decor and friendly staff.

This cafe is my favourite!! It is so cute and cosy, and the decorations are adorable! So much effort has been put in, it makes me happy just to soak in the fun vibes. <br/>I plan my regular walks to end there for breakfast on the weekends or coffee when catching up with friends. The place is so welcoming and the service is exceptional. <br/>The best bit is the food, it always looks spectacular, it's interesting, you maybe wouldn't cook it at home so it's fun experimenting, and it's constantly changing so you never get bored. <br/>You don't find many places like this around Boronia, so whether your a local, or just passing through, I sooooo recommend 'dropping in'! (pun intended)

This was one of the best cafe experiences I've had in a long time.  They had perfect cakes, biscuits and truffles, that they make from scratch.  <br/><br/>We had a lemon slice and were sad that we didn't order 2, because it tasted just like everyone's favourite Grandma's recipe.  The best Lemon Slice I've ever had.  The Turmeric Truffles had just the right amount of turmeric, honey & coconut, to name a few ingredients that I could decipher. <br/><br/>Instead of Lemongrass and Ginger tea, they had Chamomile and Ginger.  As a Nutrition Coach who knows how important these 2 ingredients are for your pancreas, I was really happy to have a hot pot of this tea.  <br/><br/>The decor and relaxing music playing made me feel like I was in a boutique cafe in London.  Nice Retro-Geek style happening in the heart of Boronia of all places.  :)<br/> <br/><br/>The photos don't do it justice.  It's the feel and the wonderful service that really sets them apart and makes you want to come back to relax and enjoy your hot drink & great food on a cold Winter's day.

Went here today. The interior was very cosy but probabaly for older crowd. I loved it though. Felt like I was sitting in my friends house. I ordered a cap and an open salmon burger. The capuccino was very good. The open salmon burger was something different and I enjoyed it. Did not try the cakes as am not a cake person so I wish they had some other sweets besides cakes and cookies. Good place to ponder or work, I did a bit of work until it got busier. Nice experience.

Went yesterday 6/3/2017 with the wife and a friend. Thought we'd give this new cafe a try. Not impressed. Ordered two mains two coffees and a cake. My wife had the prawn crepe with salad .crepe was luke warm and very bland, salad was a couple of lettuce leaves with no dressing. Our friend had pitta bread with a couple of thinly shaved slices of meat and four blobs of what looked like beetroot dip. Pitta was hard and dry and quite unappealing. Altogether a very disappointing experience. As far as coffees went my long black came out with no crema and quite watery. My friends latte was warm and weak. The cake I ordered didn't arrive at all. They weren't busy so there is really no excuse for forgetting an order. If they hope to succeed they are really going to have to lift their game

This cafe just moved and I have to say more people need to discover this gem in Boronia. Cute and cosy interior makes you feel at home. The owners and staff are lovely and happy to accommodate and answer any tricky menu questions-a service criminally underrated in hospitality. <br/><br/>Innovated menu that includes cafe classics and some new dishes straight from instagram. Corn fritters are amazing, and do yourself a favour and try some of their amazing home-cooked cakes and slices after the meal.

I've been meaning to go here for a while, last time I tried they were moving and renovating but finally had a lovely experience at the new location yesterday. The owners are lovely and chatty, brunch/light lunch are great and constantly changing. I'm probably a bit biased because I love lemon but the lemon semolina polenta cake was amazing and decor is charming. Can't wait to go back
