This sh** is boss. Literally eat the beef one daily. Literally everyday I put it in my mouth. Tastes pretty good. I'm an addict in general, and let's be honest, this place is one of my vices. I sometimes dream about it. The service is pretty good too, much better than China bar and d-house. Also the name is catchy, with a subtle quirk to it being 'dainty', I feel connected to the food. 11/10 <3

This is my go-to place for Sichuan hotpot in Melbourne. The food look and taste amazing. They are exactly like the photos displayed. So mouth-watering!

However, this place is quite on a pricey side and the price keeps going up but the food and service stay the same.

Good selection. Like that we can have our own pot of broth. Large space but the floors were rather oily and damp which we thought was actually quite hazardous in causing people to slip and spill. Very busy but staff were pretty attentive in flagging down.

Had a great dinner here with my family. I particularly like the individual pots and u can choose up to 2 soup bases. Price is a little more expensive than other hot pot places however I find the food of a better quality . The spicy hotpot was abit too spicy for my liking but I still enjoyed it. Would recommend!

I've been coming here many times for years. Place is always hustling and bustling with people. I opt to go for dinner most of the time. I love the presentation and the waiters are always quick to get your orders, and stash away empty bowls. If you are not sure what to get, you can ask but don't be too surprised if they give the check list they gave in the first place... Basically, you just pick what you want to put/cook in your soup base and that's it. Lots of options and fresh too. The Barramundi bbq was good ( massive serving). There fried buns with that milk dip is to die for. The braised meats were ok. The soup base was good.
Lot's of condiments for your sauces. If you are unsure, do what the roman do and observe or you could just ask.

Quality and fresh meet, quick and professional service, after I walk into the restaurant, I feel everything is well organised, so many choices and so many kind of sauces, I have been here for five times already, the price is worthy, but sometime I need to wait due to busy hour, it’s still worth to wait.

My best Chinese hot pot place so far. I visited on weekend's dinner.
We ordered 2 kinds of hot pot soup; spicy soup was really spicy and mushroom soup had good flavour. I loved meat balls with mushroom soup. All plates were incredibly well presented.
The manager was very friendly and kind, however some staff were not kind enough to the first time customer.

This was my second visit to Dainty Sichuan at the Box hill location. The ambience is just welcoming and staff is amazing. The service is very fast. We need to book a table on certain days. The food is expensive but quite worth it, that leaves the aroma on you.

I chose mushroom soup, with veggie platter the first time and tofu platter the next both were amazing. My friends ordered the meat option which was loved. Do try the palm juice it is to die for😍

The great broths and super fresh ingredients here definitely justify the higher than average prices. That being said, the use of individual mini pots does however take away the communal aspect of hot pot!

Dainty Sichuan is a popular Melbourne Chinese restaurant specialising in Sichuan cuisine that has been quite the rage for some time! Having heard so much about it from everyone, it was so lovely to be invited in to try their hotpot. I went in with average expectations that were definitely exceeded – there was such a vast choice of everything, the ingredients were not only fresh, but also beautifully presented, whilst the service was fast and efficient. Their prices at Dainty Sichuan are slightly higher than others but for such a vibrant environment and quality, I cannot wait to come back here and warm up from the Melbourne winter chills with some authentic Chinese hot pot (featuring Sichuan special ingredients that were unfortunately too spicy for me…)

Service: 4.5 everyone was nice and attentive, especially the uncle who was always at the main counter.

Taste: Love how the soup is different from most Chinese hot pot I've been to, which is not oily and not bland.
This is the first time I've had a crispy pumpkin ball with gluten rice inside and a hot rice ball with gluten rice. Love the light taste of the dessert ! I was impressive because I've only seen cambodia and thailand serve gluten rice as dessert.

Quality: u can tell the quality of the food when most of it is raw meat. The beef was sliced instantly upon order. The look of the seafood set was superb.

Worth the 30mns wait 👍👍👍👍👍

Came here on a Sunday at around 7:30pm. It was busy but wasn’t fully filled. Booked through Zomato for 8pm however, we got there a bit earlier and they let us in nonetheless. Staff were super nice and was constantly checking up on us. Food was very well presented and fresh (photo does not do it justice). Mushroom soup was very nice and flavor some.
Downside was that they charge $3 for sauce per person and each dish we ordered was not cheap.
Overall, i’d come here again once in a while and not regularly as it can be quite expensive.

Nice and friendly staff with good service. Much cleaner dinning environment with nice and well presented food. Highly recommended for a good hot pot experience.

We have a bit of a family Lunar New Year tradition to come here for the steam boat. Everyone gets their own hot plate and pot of stock, which the waiters will regularly top up. I like the standard base stock. The mushroom stock has a very intense mushroom flavour, and I’ve watched chilli lovers splutter and cough from the heat of the spicy stock (before they go back in again). Love the sea cucumber, pork kidney flowers, tendons and beef & lamb combo. Recommend getting a jug of watermelon juice, as it gets pretty warm when all the steam boats are simmering away at the same time. I don’t like red bean so didn’t enjoy the sesame rice balls or pumpkin cakes (no complaints from anyone else though!).

Always busy and always delicious . I use to always come here for hot pot but I have realised the prices are now a lot dearer than it use to be . One of few “upscale” restaurants in Box Hill, we didn’t really know what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful interior and high quality of the food. It is quite pricey (easily $50pp), especially compared to other restaurants nearby, but it is easy to see why when tasting the ingredients. One of the best things we got was the mixed meatball plate so please consider it when ordering! Also beware that the “spicy soup” packs a serious punch - even the staunchest chilli eaters among us had tears in their eyes and for me it was basically inedible (I resorted to cooking it in my chicken soup and then dunking it quickly in the spicy when it was ready to eat!)

Really tried to love this place after enjoying hot pot with my fiances family. We were seated promptly with a booking of 5. However the service halted pretty much after that. I understand language barriers can be confronting and we were one of the only non Mandarin/Cantonese speaking customers in our sections but we felt as though the waitress neglected to come to take our order for a good 20 minutes. We also were waiting to order drinks during this time. Once she came she was very quick to dismiss us again once she took the order and we didn't see her again until it was time to pay. Where it lacks in service the food was very good. The hot pot was delicious, condemants and ingredients were fresh and tasty. Despite a few of our dishes being wrong we didn't want to cause a fuss. We ate and enjoyed. If the service side brushes up.a bit I'm sure our experience next time will be better.

I've been here twice and have had very difference experiences, mostly in terms of price. When I was here around 2 years ago, they allowed you to share a pot and did not charge for sauce, prices were also cheaper. When I came this time around, they charge $3 per head for sauce, each person must have their own pot and prices are higher so that was the down side. The other thing was the 1.5 time limit. Apart from that, quality of food and presentation is great. Food is also fresh and the buffet of sauces is great. Spent like $240 with 5 people. Slightly pricey but still a good experience.

My last review of Dainty Sichuan Box Hill was deleted even though it was a positive review. I like it here. I go almost every year with my friends. We normally get the half spicy and half non spicy Hot pot. I didn't like the mushroom broth last time because it didn't have seasoning and I don't like having to pay extra for the sauces. I like the individual hot pots because you can choose your own broth and you have more control over the cooking and no one will steal your food that you put in. The ingredients are fresh and nicely presented.

I actually wanted to score 3.8 if possible, but don't think it's 4 yet.

More than 10 different sauces to choose from (self serve). Lots of variety of dishes on the menu with PICTURES for every single dish. So much easier to order for people who have no idea what the dishes are. Food served pretty fast. Everyone got their own little hot pot. It was a fun and enjoyable experience. 3 of us paid $195 for this meal. Little bit on the pricey side but will still come back. Recommend to book a table if going for dinner especially on weekends.

For $15 you can get large bowl of noodles, soup mushroom, tofu and tender beef. It's a good deal. If you're a small eater, you can definitely share this bowl.🍴🍴🍴.5 /5

I really liked the noodles. It was not too thin and was not thick. The tender beef was soft and the soup was really light. There was nothing wrong with the dish. I went to the Box Hill branch and there was 5 minute wait despite long lines. If you're thinking of going in large groups maybe consider going to a larger branch or early.

What a great experience!

Came here with a group having no idea what to expect.

None of us had done hot pot dining before.

Choose a base, meat and veggies and sauces and cook your own delicious pot in front of you.

Very tasty, especially the spicy base. And a lot of fun.

Service was really lovely, male waiter made up some delicious sauce for us to have.

The place was full. And deservedly so.

Not cheap, we paid about $45 each, but well worth it.

Located on level 1 on Box Hill close to the car park. It is no wonder why so many people go to this Hot Pot restaurant as it's not only convenient, but it also offers such an amazing variety of food. Food however is a tad on the expensive side. Each of us got our own hot pot base soup. Dainty offers spicy and non-spicy soup base suited for everyone. Great service, there are always wateriest nearby our table and then always refill our cups when it's nearly empty. Great place for a winter night.

Strategically visible restaurant & signage outside a building's 1st level at Cambridge Street. It can be spotted just driving along Station Road, Boxhill, with an open carpark just opposite the road. Their specialty cuisine here is serving customers an authentic Sichuan style hotpot feast.

Notably a big seating capacity in this crowded suburb. Interior was adorned with Chinese wood carving panels, big pendant light fittings and tables have individual mini induction cookers in front of each seating. They provided a big full colour well thought out menu and a systematic checklist for ordering.

Dipping sauce station had an excellent buffet of ingredients that you can build up your own dipping bowl recipe, starting from the base of sesame sauce, adding your choice of XO sauce, seafood sauce, barbecue sauce, mix in any garlic jam, leek flower sauce, fermented white beancurd, vinegar, sesame oil and/or soy sauce, and top off with chopped celery, chopped spring onion, chopped parsley, chilli flakes, fresh cut chillis, crushed peanuts and/or sesame seeds.

Each customer had to order their own individual hotpot (kids under 5 may be excluded) and priced accordingly. The spicy soup was not meant for drinking as soup per se, but mainly just for cooking the raw food. The type of spices in the spicy soup was authentic Sichuan style so be prepared for some firing up in your tummy. For those who crave for some soup with spicy food, the "ying yang" double hotpot is a great choice to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Our dinner for 6 started early on a weekday, no waiting with no booking made and we were done just over 2hrs. The restaurant did fill up but still felt comfortable. Service staff were well trained, polite and helpful with ordering and suggestions. They were organised and proactive to refill the soups and change plates as well.

The food was excellent, of good portion, beautifully presented and most importantly, served fresh. It was priced at a premium but well worth it. There's so much variety of food ingredients as well as about 12 hotpot soup base flavours, customers here are spoilt for choices. It was best enjoyed with more people and beer! 🍻

Very very popular restaurant in box hill, be expected to wait around 20minutes for a table. This place doesn't take reservations for smaller tables so it's best to go a bit earlier.

Prices have since gone up and now charge $3 pp for dipping sauces. The food came out very quick and both the stock hot pot broth and mushroom broth were very flavourful. Food is delicious and presented in a very visually appealing way.

For two people we spent $92 which is on the pricey side. However, will be back when we want to splurge on hot pot next time

My first ever hot pot experience and I would definitely come back! Had a great time trying a huge number of different things and would recommend coming with a larger group of people so you can try more dishes! Had a split broth with spicy and seafood and both cooked great, the spicy was incredibly spicy so beware! for me this was great! :) I had a drink that was lychee tea and it was yummy and juicy. Can't recommend anything specific as I had experts pick the dishes for me :P but it was all great!

My all time favourite hot pot restaurant! I love the soups here: flavoursome, spicy and a variety of different and unique flavours. The food here is a little bit fancy, more than just your average meat slices and veggies, and there's a huge variety of sauces to try.

It is a bit more pricey, and the wait time can be quite long but I still love to come here for some hot soup to warm me up, with a big kick of chilli (good thing each person gets their own hot pot).

First time here. Service was not bad. The wait staff was helpful with our food choices. Portions were huge so really 2-3 dishes were plenty for 2 people. Just be warned that the spicy soup was super spicy. If you are not a chilli lover, you are better off ordering something milder for the soup base. Or order the 'yuan yang' seafood spicy soup base where you get 2 choices for soup (one non spicy). Certainly hope to come back here again someday!

On a cold rainy evening, decided to have hotpot to warm up. Try this stall with friends. Had the pork, mushroom, tofu, etc. The ingredients were fresh, but portions were small, considering that it is pricey. Each of us has our own individual hotpot. Got the mushroom stock, which was good and the staff will refill for you. There were plenty of sauces, but you has to pay for them. Overall, may come back when I'm craving for some warm and spicy foods on a rainy day.

Really pricey for hot pot, especially when I'm used to the all you can eat one at glenny, I nearly passed out when we got the bill.

But the ingredients are definitely a lot fresher; the lamb especially was really nice and I loved the mixed mushrooms and the individual hot pots. I'm not so sure about the endless supply of dipping sauces though, I think I got a bit too excited and ended up with a bunch of really odd flavor combinations.

It was a nice night overall, I mean you could make it yourself at home for half the price, but we'd probably be back.

Wow, I did not expect a hotpot place of this impressive size and quality when I heard that a friend organised a dinner here. Booths and tables of varying shapes and sizes are fitted into what I think was a pretty cost sort of space. It reminded me of the popular hotpot franchises of Taiwan and Singapore, where you can make up your own sauces from numerous base sauces and ingredients, and also have your own individual hotpots at each table to control your own cooking. I love that I can now have this in Melbourne. The quality of the ingredients on offer was easily above average, though perhaps the only downside is that the cost racks up to be pretty expensive if you want a good variety of food. If you do want a good variety, it's much more cost effective to DIY at home, although they do have a decent number of things that would be hard to come by normally. Examples include, but are not limited to, oyster dumplings, a wider variety of soup bases and prawn paste. We also tried some pre-cooked dishes, and I must highly recommend the Sichuan cold noodle. It was generous for the price of $3.80, and packed so much moisture and flavour. I would probably return for this alone! Service is pretty decent. Staff will fill up your soup without having to be asked and they were far from your typical rude waitstaff.
Dainty Sichuan food is a difficult one to rate for obvious reasons, but I think when compared to the competition in Melbourne they stand out a lot.

Great Sichuan dishes with really attentive service. We ordered BBQ pork ribs were amazing had all the Sichuan peppers & can taste the roastiness of red chillies peppers. We also ordered pig ear in chili oil. Pig ear had that crunchiness & combined together with slight vinegary & sesame taste. Again good ingredients. Staff attentive & service was fast. Nice Asian interior with enough space inside. Every table has a hot pot cooker. Again what I notice is that all ingredients were high quality. However portion size was tiny bit smaller for the price you pay. However it didn't really bother us though. considering the quality of food, ambiance + service against price gives an overall mark of 3.8* /5.

I honestly believe that i had died and woke up in heaven....

Ok so the story goes.... 4 Aussies walk into Sichuan Paradise. 2 of them go outaide for a smoke leaving the remaining two to order the ingredients for everyone's hotpot.

I have eaten hotpot in China many times... but never had to order. Now i know why the staff were laughing their heads off at us.... we ordered enough for a small provence!!

The quality and freshness of the food was outstanding. The broths were spectacular, and the beef, prawns, cuttlefish, 5 types of veges, 4 types of noodles, beef tendons and muahroom meledy that we ordered was awesone. Did i mention we also ordered a kitchen sink sized bown of mouth melting (and spicy burning) pork ribs? Holy crap... it was a religious experience!!!

We'll be back!!!

The service is amazing here. The waiter tried to befriend us which was really nice. Most of the time that I'm here, I would order the fish because they taste so fresh it never disappoints. This is my favourite spicy food

The greatest and expensive hot pot in Box Hill. You have many choices of sauces and soup base. I prefer to choose double flavour soup base, coz I can eat different flavours. Everything is fresh and clean. It is great place to go and eat.

This was the first time I tried hotpot and this place did not disappoint

Great variety of soup bases and $3/person for unlimited sauces. Had quite a few options for sauces as well but can surely do with a bit more, especially garnishes.

BYO wine is just $6/bottle

The place feels like you're at some massive event as it was full on busy for the whole time we were there.

The only thing is that it takes forever to get your order in as for some reason all the waiters try and avoid servicing you rather than doing the opposite so make sure to order everything at once.

Food comes out quite promptly though.

To summarise, I'd definitely go again and chase the waiters go get service if ai have to 😁

This is hands down my favorite place to go and eat hotpot. While it does bend on the more expensive places you could go to eat hotpot I dare say it's well worth it!

Few reasons which make this place great;
- it's always packed with Chinese people which is a great indication for the quality of food here.
- You can go get as many variations and types of sauces you want (3$ per person to get all the sauce you want made by you).
- Everything comes out fresh, unlike some places where the meat is literally frozen.
- You get individual pots! Now we all have that mate who thinks they can handle the spicy soup base, but just ends up washing all his food in the non-spicy soup base turning it all spicy. This is our godsend. If you don't have someone like that, it's probably you. Please stop.

Recommend the mushroom soup, QQ fresh prawn balls, tasty cold sichuan noodles and the plain noodles

Make sure you try to make booking or come early

One of the better local hot pot places, it's always a struggle to get a table unless you've got a big group of about 8+ then you can make a booking. Wide range of healthy soup bases to choose from. The meat is superb always fresh with a big variety of fresh vegetables and seafood. The best is being able to make and mix your own condiments.

Average Sunday night - Dainty Sichuan is just as bustling as a Boxing Day sale. We waited 20~ minutes for a table and the verdict? It's one of the better hot pot venues in Box Hill. The service was quick and attentive (thanks to the guy who gave us the last two plates of sweet corn). The food itself was quality, super spicy, and well presented. Did I mention it was super spicy?! TIPS: Get the half/half soup base to break up the spiciness. They are generous with their servings so make sure you don't over order! Dipping sauces are unlimited at $3.00pp.

For four people (without alcohol) it was $267.00 which is on the more expensive side, but you get what you pay for. Would go again because they use individual pots, which is good for groups.

This is one of my to go hot pot places! This is my first time coming here and two months and as usual there was a long line. We waited for 50 minutes to get to our table.
They changed their menu which had more variety which also means they increased the pricing for most dishes.
There is also a charge for sauce per person (3/3.80 a person)
Normally for two people we normally spend 70 dollars a but this time it costed us 130 dollars and we ordered only 2 dishes more than usual! Very sad..

Nice place to do hot pot if you wanna be a little bit fancy. Don't expect it to be cheap. I'd be unlikely to go as a pov uni student but as a working class adult it's not bad (if you enjoy hot pot).

I've seen Dainty Sichuan around for a while now and have heard great things through word of mouth and reviews I have read. Hot pot is one of my favorite meals in winter and Dainty Sichuan certainly did not disappoint.

We went to the box hill branch and the place was packed when we got there which is always a good sign. One difference I found at Dainty Sichuan compared to other hot pot places I've been to is that everyone need to order their own soup base which is fine by me as I can try different broths. The service was good and attentive and they came around often to top up the soup base. I liked how the sauces were unlimited and charged at $3 per head. My fav was the seafood and xo sauce.

I went for the abalone and black chicken as the soup base and it was delicious. The lovely other half had the ox tail soup base and it was also full of flavour. We went for the premium beef slices, fresh prawn balls, mixed mushrooms, plain noodles and Sichuan cold noodles to share. All the ingredients were presented beautifully and was exceptionally fresh. I particularly liked the cold noodles as it wasn't super spicy like some of the other places but well balanced and great as a little side or starter entree while you wait for your hot pot to heat up and your meat to cook.

If you like hot pot I would definitely recommend Dainty Sichuan however be prepared that they don't take bookings so go early if you don't want to wait around for a table. The place is a bit like a high end gourmet hot pot in the sense that the food presentation is immaculate, the servings is slightly smaller than other places, their hot pot ingredients are high quality and fresh and their soup stock full of flavour. It is worth it but be prepared to pay premium price for it. Allow $120 for 2 as everyone need to order their own soup base.

Dainty Sichuan is a particularly amazing restaurant for people who have preferences for spicier foods. This place is extremely crowded all night with long lines at the door. If you have 8 or more people, you better call ahead and reserve a table. To be seated right away, my best friend and I arrived early at 5.30pm for our hotpot dinner kind of day. So many interesting choices on the menu. I personally think that Wagyu Beef is not something to be missed out! Definitely a variety of fresh ingredients of meat and vegetables are being served! What really caught my attention was the spicy soup. Warning: the spicy soup was absolutely cough-inducing though! To add on, you could create your favourite sauces yourself and replenish it for numerous times. Although the staffs speak limited English, the service was efficient and attentive. The portion was huge, and the soup flavours were incredibly delicious. Food prices are not cheap, but worth every cent. The restaurant is clean, huge and spacious, but the atmosphere was really loud. Compared to other hotpot restaurants, this is by far considered to be authentic Sichuan food in style. You won’t regret the authentic hotpot experience.

GOOD: reasonably priced, well presented and tasty hot pot restaurant. Everybody gets their own stock base and heating element. Went there for a staff lunch and ended up paying about $20-25pp for just a little too much food. The more people you bring, the more variety you can afford to have. There is a dipping sauce station where you can pick and mix your perfect dipping sauce.

BAD: sneaky sneaky $3pp charge for dipping sauces... also, at dinner times in winter there will be a long wait for a table. And you can't book for less than 6 people.

TASTY: adding garlic jam to your stock soup base. +0.5 for the garlic jam.

Fresh Barramundi in chilli, Sichuan, pepper and cumin - The price of the fresh fish depends on the size. I requested the smallest size available for two person and the attendant came back to me , with the living fish trying to breathe in a net, for approval. Cost us $69 for the fish. It was not very spicy, just about right. Absolutely amazing. Little oily though. 4.5/5. Mushroom and Sichuan pepper hot pot ( pic not available) - They first told us that we have to order two hotpots for two people because I was ordering only one mini hotpot. I had to explain to first the attendant and then her boss that we are getting a whole fish dish and then just one hot pot is enough for us. The boss asked the chef and then they agreed. I ordered vegetable platter and enoki mushroom for the hotpot, I received basket of mushrooms and enoki mushroom on side. If I knew that we will get just mushrooms for vegetable platter then I wouldn't have ordered enoki mushroom on side. We couldn't finish the mushrooms cause it was all to much. 3/5 for the hotpot. Ambience and service - 4.5/5

A family friendly hot pot restaurant. The soup bases are so delicious and the soup ingredients are always fresh. We love the make-your-own dip bar, with a variety of sauce selections. Service is friendly and efficient. Although the ambience could be improved, this is our local go-to, for a refreshing Chinese hot pot experience.

Our favourite hotpot restaurant that makes cooking hotpot fun and tasty. Good prices for sliced meats, and a large range of meats, including fish, pork, lamb and beef. Great sweet treats like pumpkin cake and fried mantou with sweet dipping sauce. Doesn't seem to get too busy, but best to book - online or via phone. The hot soup is really spicy. Good range of dipping sauces.

Dainty Sichuan is not like your normal CBD hotpot. Dainty Sichuan is your traditional hotpot. Perfect for chilly days and night. Food was brilliant. It tasted amazing and loved and the layout of the restaurant. Missed the five star mark as it's on the pricier side. Enoki mushrooms were around $10. Charged for sauce, $3 per person. The total you see in the picture was around $150 give or take. I would definitely come here again as the quality is brilliant. However, will cost you a fortune if came regularly.

Meat quality was good, quite expensive but it was definitely worth the money. Would recommend coming here once in a while. Customer service was also not bad, they help you clean up tables and refill hot water.
