All the dumplings are really fresh and the soups are just perfect! I really like it. The crowd is not too packed. Also, it’s just next to tatsing asian supermarket. after you having meal, you can just do grocery shopping.

Shanghai garden dumpling is one of my favourite places they have so many unique items on their menu such as the pork soup buns and pork veggie wontons in the best sauce I’ve ever tasted highly recommend the pan fried dumplings also ! And fresh quality ingredients !

Delicious food and reasonable priced. Usually waiting time is a bit long though. Noodle, rice dumplings are all above average. Will recommend it to friends.

We came here to try the xiao long bao and had mixed feelings. The meat filling was generous but not as juicy as others we have tried. One of us thought the dumpling skin was too thick, whilst the other thought it was fine. However, one thing that we agreed on was how outstanding the broth was. Each dumpling was filled with a substantial amount of broth, which had a depth of flavour that was unexpected but so delicious. The restaurant itself was clean and basic, but was eerily quiet and a little unsettling when we visited.

In our experience, we feel that different people have different preferences when it comes to xiao long bao. It may be that you really enjoy these, but personally we still have our favourite elsewhere.

This place is clean and quite.I ordered a Beef fire rice, the rice is good but the beef is really bad. If the price is below $9 is ok to meet quality, but it cost $11 is a bit too much. Cuz I compare to the Vietnamese Beef rice I had yesterday and the day before in mitcham and Box Hill, there price are $12-$13 but the taste of Beef are much better. Hope this restaurant can improve the Beef fire rice.

Best fried pork soup buns (生煎包) ever! I've had these many times, great as dine in and takeaway. Reminds me so much of the ones I had in China! The environment is simple, but clean and spacious - a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the main Box Hill area :)

I passed this restaurant several times and finally gave it a try for lunch today, it was a very happy experience. I was born and bred in Shanghai, the menu was not very long but brought back all the memories of Shanghai food. Since there are quite a lot of bad comments for this one, I made a safety choice of 4 dishes that they most common food in Shanghai. The most important part for bun in Shanghai is having soup inside, when u have first bite, u can feel the soup comes out of the bun and dip with vinegar that make it tasted better. This is the way we eat in Shanghai. The steam bun and pan fried pork bun are both met this requirement, so I will give it 8 out of 10. For the sweat and sour soup, mixed with Chinese mushroom and toufu, the taste just as same as mum makes, I give it 10 out of 10. I have to say this is the soup I grew up with, not everybody will love it. The rice cake is a common dish we always have in winter or earlier spring time in Shanghai, a bit a vegetable with shredded pork mixed with rice cake, I still remember gramma used to make it for our breakfast or lunch. This time this restaurant made it almost as same as my gramma made, I almost want to cry, plus the chef add a little bit sugar inside, this is the key ingredient in Shanghai style cooking. This is the best rice cake I have ever harvested after I left Shanghai. It is not a very fancy and nice decorated restaurant, it's more like a small family business with a old couple make some Shanghai home style food in the kitchen. If you are looking for the feeling of home, or some traditional Shanghai breakfast food or snacks, this is the best choice. I will definitely go back to try their main course.

I've been wanting to come here for a while because the pictures look so good. I came here for dinner tonight with My Dad and sister, we also got take away for Mum. When we went to order there was a sheet of paper for us to tick and it got a bit dirty because the table wasn't wiped properly. I wanted to order the fried pork soup buns but they ran out so I ordered pork XLB and the "cold wantons". We also ordered some dishes with rice to share.

My sister ordered the fried pork chop, this came in 3 pieces so it was easy for us to share. The pork was very thin so it was mostly batter but at least it wasn't chewy like ones I've had in the past. Dad thought it was too bland so he asked for soy sauce with it, I used the sauce from my wantons. I ordered the tea smoked chicken. The chicken was pink like other smoked chickens I've seen, it had a nice smoky flavour but it was dry like the smoked ducks I've had in other Chinese restaurants, some sauce would be nice with it. Dad ordered the Shanghai pork meatballs in sauce, he liked the meatballs but I wasn't that impressed with the flavour. I think another meatball would've been nice as there were only 2. I ordered the Shanghai thick noodle soup for Mum, when I was thinking of thick noodles I was thinking of Biang Biang type noodles but they looked more like Hokies noodles. I tried some and thought it was a bit bland.

While the mains weren't that exciting, the XLB were another story. These were by far the best XLB I've ever had. They were nice and big and there was heaps of soup in them unlike other ones I've had in Box Hill. I also liked the flavour of this one better than the ones at Shanghai Street Dumpling because it wasn't too sweet. The only thing stopping it from being perfect is that the skin is a bit thick. A guy behind us even said to me that this place has great dumplings and it's underrated, I agree with him. The lady working here told me the wantons I wanted were the "cold wantons", luckily they weren't actually cold 😳. They were delicious and the skin was nice and silky. I haven't had wantons with the peanut sauce and chilli oil before so I can't compare to other places but I thought the flavour of the sauce was light.

The lady working here was very nice. I'd definitely come back here for the dumplings and wantons but not so much the mains, maybe I'll try the dandan noodles. I would love to try the fried pork soup buns. I would suggest not coming here too late because they run out of things. I wanted to order another lot of the XLB but they were all gone.

Their xiao long bao, fried pork dumplings (鍋貼) and jelly pork (肴肉) are our favourites. Noodles in soup tend to be blend. Wish they open more than 5 days a week, so many time we went there only to find closed doors =.=

BEST dumplings in the whole VIC! 🥟 Seriously if you’ve tried other place and you think that’s already good dumplings, you’ve lived life to the fullest potential. Note: Tea leaf smoked chicken or ducks must be pre-ordered 2 days prior, or else your loss 👏👏👏

This is our staple go to for our Friday night family dinners. Has a great family feel about it and the food is fresh and delicious. Simple, quick and value for money! As a small aside, the lady working at the front on the dumplings is lovely and the kids absolutely adore her and love watching the dumpling creation.

Nice food. Peaceful and quiet atmosphere, but is underrated and lacks customers. They also close down on (if I recall) Tuesdays and Thursdays at times because of this
