Review Delight House - Box Hill

Bo Cui
Can’t believe I forgot to review one of my hidden gems in Box Hill, if I could, I would give them ten stars where fives stars represent the top score. Trust me, no matter what dish you order, you won’t regret as they are all wonderfully prepared. The flavors are always magnificent and the ingredients are always fresh. God bless them, they survived the pandemic, otherwise I don’t know where to find a compatible and similar one. I would recommend always order normally dishes rather than a quick bite or bentos.

Have come here several times, good pricing, roast pork and duck is excellent, they offer Chinese soup and tea when you seat

Well... The roast pork not same as 2021 already.. I don’t think so now the taste and the meat is not doing well already … I didn’t see the old chef standing there anymore…

Tasty duck and noodles! Will be back to try more items on the menu. It lost one star as the company I was with did not enjoy their meals quiet as much. Mind you they did not order the duck which seems to be their specialty.

Ordered roast duck rice and soy sauce chicken rice. Duck and chicken were both very overcooked and the meat was dry. The service was mediocre and this lady (seems like the boss) kept picking on this new cashier staff because she was getting impatient with him. Didn't give me a good first impression and it might as well be the last impression.

Although Its not quite the same as 大家樂 in Hong Kong which is a fast food/cafe style food, this one in Box Hill has its own charm. We arrived quite late but the staff were happy to serve us and made us feel very welcome. Soup came straight away and it was great to see the traditional Cantonese soup being served with dinner at no additional cost. We ordered fish fragrant eggplant with chicken, drunken chicken claypot soup, xo scallops and salt and pepper tofu. The scallops and the chicken claypot soup were particular highlights but all the dishes were great. We will be coming back to try the bbq meats too!

Initial impressions: Friendly af service, great tasting roast meats, flavours are fairly authentic and clean tasting. Edit 3 months later: less than attentive service on subsequent visits, wait staff don't seem to care or notice who came in first. Flavours a touch off, probably will give it a miss unless things pick up a bit

Had takeaway here. Very quick service even though place was pretty busy. The only issue is they have surcharge for credit card use. Even eftpos requires minimum of $40 to avoid surcharge. Apologies for the photos. Already started eating it before remembering to take photos :p

Used to be good but food quality dropped. In these difficult times I would expect they will be desperate for customers. Apparently not because of bad customer service. The young female employee is nice but the boss is rude. The tea they served was cold, might as well just give me plain water. Will not return again.

Delight House continues to impress. With service that is pleasant and flavoursome roast meats, it's always a real delight to come by this place.

I popped in on a Sunday afternoon and purchased a range of meats. Soya chicken, roast duck, salted free range chicken, sausage and cuttlefish. The meats were chunky and the accompanying sauces were delicious! Hats off to the sausage - it was addictively savoury.

With so many restaurants selling roast meats in Boxhill, Delight House is slightly ahead of the pack.

Previously:

The roast duck at Delight House came highly recommended so we decided to give it a go.....and we were delightfully surprised!

The duck was lean and full of flavour - the all important secret spices came through loud and clear. The cuttlefish was perfectly QQ and not rubbery. The accompanying vinegary sauce gave it another dimension.

Mmmmm.....delightful ducks at Delight House....looking forward to our second tour!

Average fried rice.

Pork belly was beautifully sliced in thin cuts on the menu photo! Unfortunately the actual dish wasn't like that at all. Flavour was ok but it would of really benefited from thinner cuts and maybe some other veg or side to give a slight palette cleanser from the powerful sauce.

This restaurant has been opened awhile and we have yet to try it. So last week, we went in for lunch. We ordered a combination of two meats, the steamed free range chicken and the roast duck. Vow, the steam chicken was so tasty, the flavour comes with a little bit of a salty and chicken taste. The meat was so tender and easy to bite and chew. The roast duck is juicy and meat is tender. Overall we have a very satisfying meal. Will definitely come back to patronise this restaurant. Will recommend their free steamed free range chicken come with an additional charge of $3.00 than the normal steamed chicken.

22-June 2019

As I said earlier, I will be back to try my favourite steamed free range chicken. I ordered a plate of rice with it. I must say that it is really good. I just loved it.

Nice place to have lunch if you're in Box Hill. Had the Preserved Egg and Sliced Pork Congee, paired with Chinese Fried Donut (Yau Char Kwai). Washed down with a hot cup of milk tea. The congee was smooth and tasty, loved the ginger bit they had in there.

2.0

Nice lighting, seating and ambiance. Complimentary soup is given.

Ordered the bbq pork and wonton with soup noodle. Noodle are overly cooked and the bbq pork is dry and tough. The wontons were odd tasting and wonton skin was still doughy inside.

A nice place but food was disappointing.

After coming here several times, I can conclude that only the roast duck and only the road duck has been consistently good.Other roasts can be a bit inconsistent. The main meals that are ordered to share, I would definitely not go here for those types of main meals. There are places that can cook a lot of main dishes a lot better, for the same price range. Not to mention, their satay vermicelli beef had pineapple in it, that's a first..hopefully a last. That was the weirdest combination I have ever had.On a side note, their ginger, spring onion crab was pretty good. However, they only have the one claw which is possibly why its cheaper than normal.

I’ve read some reviews comparing this place with Roast Duck Inn and my curiosity got the better of me ... after checking out this place I can only say that this place is an extremely poor copy of Roast Duck Inn

We had 2 main dishes and 1 bbq pork with rice. All taste authentic like home. The lady who served us is attentive. A satisfied meal for canton food.

Pleasantly surprised by Delight House. We usually go to Roast Duck Inn, but thought we’d try something different. The place was less crowded, seatings are comfortable. No need to share table with other diners. Service was quick and friendly. Roast duck was very good. Skin was crispy, duck wasn’t too fatty. Fried salt and pepper chicken ribs on rice was very good too. Not greasy, really enjoyable. Will definitely go there again!

We took away the fried chicken wing rice which was really tasty! The Peking duck was good too and had a decent amount of meat. The chicken spring roll didn’t have much chicken flavour to it. We will be back again to try more!

Absolute gem for those hunting for the best roast duck and roast pork in Vic. Restaurant may not be spacious, but food overall was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

This place is fantastic!! For starters, seats comfortable, good air-con, only tiny thing is it’s quite noisy inside. Staff were very friendly, always brought everything we wanted promptly, and spoke really good English! Then the food came, everything was fabulous!!! I saw another review say the duck was dry and I have to strongly disagree the duck was my favourite, juicy with beautiful skin and the sauces to accompany were divine. We also reallly loved the sweet and sour pork, not at all oily and heavy and just delicious. Will return! Oh and free soup and tea!!

Very new, just opened 3 weeks ago.
We ordered
Salt pepper pork chop - very nice, not oily
Bbq pork - skin super crunchy (my favourit)
Roast pork - very nice
Tofu claypot with chicken and salted fish - abit tasteless for our pallete
Cube beef - beef cooked perfectly, and on top of that they serve it with brocolli
Dry noodle with roast duck - noodle was perfect but roast duck was just ok

They give complimentary soup and tea.

The place is nice, toilet is clean. Staff was very helpfull.

I recommend for the bbq pork, roast pork, salt pepper ribs and the cube beef.

And their portion is decent as well.

This is a new business. We have tried lunches and dinners. Very hard to rate this place at present just to be fair.

The Chinese name is the same as a major chain restaurant in hk. It is therefore very easy to remember.

The place is done up fine. Simple, airy and bright.

The food for lunch is overall quite good. The roast stuff is nice. Roast duck may be the best I have had in Melbourne for a while. The young roaster chopper is the most professional I have seen in this town. Dressed well and the knife work is almost as good as mine. The food is why I came back a few times already in its few weeks of starting business.

The downsides include a higher price for the food against its fast food setting. The inexperience of the very very young waitresses is obvious. Some are not trained in the hospitality business. They do not know what is on their menu. They instead of refilling the teapots or removing empty dishes and plates just stand around in thoughts. Even the kitchen got our orders wrong.

But then these may be the normal teething problems for a new restaurant. The most important thing to us chinese is the food and just for the food I would give a 4 out of 5.

4 it is then.

Been back here a few times. Business appears about the same. Roast duck and roast pork remain very nice. Staff are still friendly but pretty green.
However when I found that one of my dishes was served on a much chipped plate together with the fast food setting I decided to take a star away against the generally more expensive menu. Not nice but have to be honest.

Bad news. Fire in the shop already. Supposedly started in the kitchen and no suspicious circumstances. Hope so.

Renovated after the fire. Much remained the same
Roast pork and duck are nice on most days but NOT on Mondays. We had some chicken and that is not very fresh. Decor and service same as before. One of the plastic cups has several cracks and leaks badly. Yes. Lots of room to improve. Serving freshly cooked rice is a good start.
Don’t go on mondays. The roast pork more often than not is leftover from the week before. The skin is tough and the meat is twice cooked.

Especially the toilets. Unisex toilets. Good idea. But only for stick men and stick women There is no more than 4-6 inches between the toilet bowl and the door edge. You either clean the walls with your clothes or need to stand on the toilet to close the door. But we all know squatting on the toilet seat is ok only for people from certain places.

Came back here for lunch many times. Happy with the roasts. The young chopper has gone. The older chopper is just not as tidy as the young one. The waiters have improved.

And they charge for the takeaway cartons. 50 cents each. Just when the few others are dropping this bad practice.

Been a while since the last review. Been here many times for lunch and dinner. Nothing special about dinner. The food is still overpriced.
Lunch is acceptable. The old chopper was consistently bad in his chopping style. The roast pork is regularly badly roasted and he chopped them up in small slivers. He is now teaching a young man to do the same. Sad. Roast pork should be presented in tidy lined up blocks.
May be it is just me.
