Review Jade Hong Kong Cafe - Box Hill

The baked beef brisket with Macau sauce was great!

Customer service is really terrible! Very rude attitude towards the customer who is not from Hong Kong! We ordered some chips and chicken wings and asked for ketchup. However, they even didn’t have enough sauce bottles and told us that they didn’t have any other bottles.

Modern Hong Kong cafe food. Bake cheese pork chop is the best.

Last time the service was terrible and same as the food. However, now it has slowly improved...

Really good for a quick and cheap eat but service is horrendous
The food is your typical Hong Kong cafe , whipped together fast - that home cooked meal vibe that you make when your a struggling uni student - but sometimes you just crave that kind of food you know?

Was plan to have breakfast in food court . For some reason it was not open yet. So decided to wondering around the area for breakfast . Found this place and since they are open from 8am. Order myself a chicken coongee and it come with prawn rice roll. Am please with the breakfast. Remind me of HK breakfast . Will come back again

Very hong kong style cafe, cant find much in melbourne. Food is taste pretty good, service hong kong style. They have tranditional hong kong afternoon tea food as well. Recommending oven-bake pork chop on rice, is one of the signiture dish.

Due to the low patronage I've always avoided this place. My mini me has recently obtained an addiction for HK breakfasts, so I tagged along. The lemon tea was better than nearby venues. The congee was better than I've had at yum Cha venues in Melb, and the minute steak was tender. Service is typical HK style, so don't expect much, but it wasn't typically rude, like some nearby places. For HK breakfast I'd recommend congee (satay beef noodles were below so so)
Don’t expect service in these hk style cafes. You are there just for cheap quick bite, if you want service, don’t go. Their food are always consistent and yum, except sometime you may need some wait if they are short staffed. Their milk tea is the best. They are one of the 15+ yrs still operating hk cafe with same owner, same name, same location in box hill, much much longer than any hk cafe in area. Well, they are there for a reason.

A typical Hong Kong style coffee restaurant. For some reason it is never well supported by customers.
The menu is typical of this type of eating places for lunch, afternoon tea. The food is average, price and size and quality wise. Decor is basic. Unchanged for 20 years.
The lady running this place I have yet to see her smiling or greeting customers. May be this is the reason for the poor patronage.
Now that it closes at 5:30 pm there is no point of even going there for afternoon tea.

Time to retire ma’am.

I order a congee two weeks ago in Jade Hong Kong cafe, and taste like they just put the ingredients on top the congee. Doesn't taste right.
And their Hong Kong style milk tea taste like water. Not recommended.

Ordered the Saute Mushroom E-Fu noodles and got the Chicken E-Fu noodles instead. Luckily I'm not vegetarian and didn't mind the difference. The HK milk tea is tasty as expected.

Don't be put off by the low rating on Zomato. You have to approach this place with zero expectations because it probably hasn't changed since it opened back in the day. It's cheap, fast, and in true Hong Kong style, doesn't really have patience to provide service.
However, the food IS good when you make the right pick! Think HK style brunch options ABCDE: congee, toast, instant noodles with satay beef, vermicelli etc. Lunch time options rotate constantly so you're guaranteed something different every time. I've been coming here since I was a little girl, and I love it.
The Girl With Blue Hair
This place brings back fond memories of Hong Kong. The food are delicious and remind you of those kinds of cafes in the 80s. It's warm and staff are very friendly.

It is so competitive in Box Hill, especially in one of the busiest strips, Carrington Road.

I decided to go against the crowd and picked the lowest rating in Zomato. And now, i can tell everyone Zomato was right. It was bad.

I ordered the chicken with white sauce on rice. There were only 4 tiny little tasteless chicken pieces and the sauce was cold. The whole thing was so bad that i had to force myself to eat little bit more so i wouldnt be left hungry.

I would not give it the lowest rating due to the good location, friendly staff, and affordable price.
My Kitchen Sucks...
For the true blooded Hongkie like myself Jade HK Cafe represent what Hong Kong Cafe food culture truly was and still is today.

I had been visiting this restaurant since my late high school days and now even well into my work career JHKC still represented the one place where I can get HK cafe styled food and restaurant ambiance when a 9 hours flight is just too hard to bear for some.

And that mean hard seats, tea served in a plastic glass, $10 set lunches and of cause the Hong Kong styled silk stockings milk tea.

Silk stockings you say? Yes that is correct. In order to brew the most flavorsome red tea the tea leafs must be boiled in silk leg stockings once worn by the boss lady of the restaurant. Just like Cuban cigars that are rolled on the thighs of the cigar rollers.

Now now before you start ringing the Department of Food Safety Victoria please note that silk stockings yes but once worn by the boss lady is a "NO, NO, NO, NO and NO"... But the stockings might had been worn by the boss man though :D

The milk tea served by the restaurant is deep in aroma and flavor and with added condensed milk makes tea bags tea looks like child's play.

The ever changing $10 tasty set lunch is big in serving sizes and with the choice of either western or Asian flare with either rice, spaghetti or potato mash sides there will be a combo that suits everyone.

For a little extra $ the steak set lunch will satisfy the most hungry carnivore on the planet.

And for those who have an instant noodle addiction you are taken care of too!!!

And for the sweet toothed do give the French Toast (Deep fried peanut butter sandwich served with golden syrup) a try. It never disappoints me every time I tried.

But for those who comes into the restaurant expecting leather sofas and 5 star service will left feeling disappointed or even abused when the waiter ignored your order call while they are running off their feet.

As for those who was born in a city that operates everything at 200% pace and never sleeps will find JHKC a good place to slow down, eat some true styled HK cafe food, pay with little coin and be happy to be a true Hongkie.

I really enjoy the food here! Very nice Hong Kong style Cafe dishes. The prices are very reasonable and set lunches are great. This is a regular for me.

Jade Hong Kong Cafe specialises in Hong Kong Cuisine. However, with a convenient location and friendly service, great food was missing from the equation. The char Kwai teow when compared to other nearby outlets was tasteless and expensive. Unfortunately, it just didn't make the cut.

This place and I have a history. As a kid I would always go there with my parents and I remember it as a pretty nice place. Now as an adult I just have terrible experiences there, the food is ok, not great not terrible, but the deal breaker here is the service. I've had waiters that slam the water glasses on the table, I've had the staff glare at me when I entered after dinner hours (not closing time mind you, like an hour before closing time), and I've had staff make fun of an aunty of mine when she ordered. If everywhere else is full, give it a go I guess. Hopefully your experience is different from mine.

I kinda remember this place being tastier than it was and I definitely expected tastier Honky afternoon tea.
Red Apple
I went in excited about my lunch but I came out very disappointed. I had a set lunch with chicken steak and it was nearly half raw. Not only did the cook not apologise nor even SPEAK to me, they simply told the waitress to tell me that it was just my piece of chicken. I have also heard that that was not the first time they have done the similar thing. Very disappointed !
Ps, food is not that great.

Oh dear. The service was pleasant as we had a nice smiling waitress. The food... Never again. $9 for tasteless instant noodles? Not coming back.
Tuna
Ok la!. Good Food at reasonable prices... Typical hk cafe food... With the typical hk attitude.. Waitresses attitude spoils it all...
Zen41
Terrible taste, lousy service, never try to walk in here
Peter
Bad service and HK cafes go hand in hand, but when they ignore you because a bigger group walk in, tell you they can't read their own menu then forget your order that's bad even for them.

The food itself is decent, and it's still one of the very few places in Melbourne that serve HK Milk Tea (港式奶茶).
Jenny Xiao
Anyone who walks into this restaurant is obviously not expecting good service. Great place for a fast and reasonable price meal. So to round it up, just for a good feed. The service u will expect there is as if there staff is extremely under paid, so they'll express it on the customers for revenge which is working really well!
Hungry 4 Sum Noodles
Been visiting this place for 15 years. Milkf tea always beautiful and chicken steak very nice. However they need to update their menu.
Kangaroosmate
Not bad. Dinner set is about $15, includes soup, a main (about 10 to choose from), bowl of rice, drink and dessert, good for a quick meal.
Chairman Mao
Burnt meal. Dinner for 2

Pros:
* Clean.

Cons:
* Burnt steak.
* Some of the set meals are not value for money. You're better off ordering the dishes separately.

Not many places serve honkie breakfasts here in Melbourne. You have to go to the asian suburbs and it is very expensive especially when compared to HK. In HK a honkie breakfast costs a few aussie dollars whilst here it's a minimum of $7 or so. There are about 8-10 options for breakfast all include a drink. Cold Milk Tea Worst idea of the day, felt sick all day long. Can't stomach cold milk tea first thing in the morning. Macaroni in Stock Average honkie style macaroni. Don't expect al dente pasta or homema
