Review Gala Thai - Brisbane

Dexter Liu
Staff are friendly and quick to service. Ask if you have been there or not previously, if not they quickly explain how to use the ordering tablets. Food comes out quickly and together in their appropriate orders(drinks, entree, mains, etc). I just wish I could say I’m surprised about the quietness. It’s not that quiet as they do have people entering and exiting. Although it could be busier if at a better location such as down about midway the road closer to the bars and other restaurants as they are filled with potential customers unaware of this restaurant. Highly recommended.

I ordered check pad Thai. I asked them to change chicken to prawn. But they only can serve with chicken which is made me disappointed. It was good point that they didn’t use a lot of oils, but it was too much soup and wet noodles for me.

Very nicely done Duck Tam (salad). Duck is crispy but yet not too dry. Order is quick as well.

Authentic Thai food at reasonable prices. Owner is friendly and helpful.

Thumbs up to Yip the owner. This place have amazing authentic Thai food. We recommend the duck tam as we get takeaway every fortnight and enjoy a wine/beer while waiting. The staff are attentive and know us by name. The service and food is phenomenal. If you are in West End I do recommend this place .

First time buying our dinner from here. Takeaway. It was ready on time; the young woman who served me was friendly, smiling and cheerful; the food was great value from both flavour and quantity. Many places water down the sauces and save on meat and verges. Not at Gala Thai. Loved it and will definitely be back, even though they are a little further afield from home.

Ordered the Calamari side and beef massaman curry, plus coconut rice. Amazing flavours and just melt in your mouth beef. A truly great experience for our take away meal. All foods were fresh and fragrant. Well absolutely be back soon.

I liked their ordering system through a tablet placed on your table, you can also use the same system to call a waitress. Food is delicious and the staff is friendly. I initially thought there are no car parking lots available, but there are some spots behind the shop.

Just had my second meal at Gala Thai in West End and they only opened a week ago. That’s how good it is. I hope to make my way through their entire menu ! Tonight was Duck Curry and Beef Massaman. Hard to pick my favourite. Beautiful flavours in the Duck Curry and the slow cooked beef was melt in your mouth. Best I’ve ever had. Lovely new place in West End with very friendly service. My new local. Get on down there. You won’t regret it.

Visited on third day of opening. Amazing, delicious, authentic Thai flavours in a hip new modern space! Extremely friendly staff. Those two things combined will challenge the Thai West End incumbents to lift their game. Get in quick to enjoy BYO while they wait to get their liquor license.

This is the best Thai you can get hands down. The red curry is to die for.

First night to dine in at what will definitely become our local. Both my husband and I love Thai, and this is the best Thai food we have had in years. So looking forward to going back and trying other things on the menu - we are already working out when we can go again before we go on holiday soon. Fresh beautiful food, with wonderful sauces, friendly attentive staff. Favourites tonight the veggie spring rolls and the red curry chicken.

We had a great dinner at Gala Thai last night. The salads were fresh and tasty, and the crispy pork was fantastic. The space is clean, vibrant and welcoming.

Had a EatClub promo lunch here yesterday. Owner lady still can remember me and she is so friendly and passionate.
We ordered a Tom Yum, chicken satay for entrees. Duck in curry sauce with coconut rice and Pad Thai for the mains.
Production is consistently good. Love that it serves two large king prawns in shell for the Tom Yum. Love it serves fresh pineapples for duck in curry. Importantly, the coconut fragrance from the rice really win our appreciation. It matches the curry perfectly👍
A very satisfied Sunday lunch.😋
Last visit: Nov 2018 rating 5/5

Absolutely amazing food.

We ordered the Crispy Pork Belly fish which was amazing! So was the duck salad - it’s pictured at the front counter. So fragrant and fresh!

Staff are super bubbly and friendly, and all speak Thai in the kitchen which is on View.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
Another day and yet another Thai restaurant. Loving how Thai cuisine is really hitting Brisbane lately. Can l eat Thai food everyday…yes l can, especially when it’s delicious and authentic as Gala Thai. . When we visited we saw a lot of regular customers come in and l can see why. The food here is exceptional and the service was a standout. They had a great ordering system which l loved. Select what you want from the device they provide and within minutes the food arrived at our table. Fast service but the food was honest amazing and authentic Thai food packed with flavour. I also loved the variety they had on offer and l could have kept ordering.

Flavours of Thailand

The food at this cute little restaurant just outside West End's dining and shopping precinct is amazing. We were able to tailor the food to suit our taste - Thai hot with less sugar. We loved that the dishes we ordered were served with a generous wedge of lime. The flavours were authentic with lots of chilli, galangal, finger ginger and green peppercorns. The service was excellent - the staff are super friendly and eager to please. We'll be back to try more dishes!

What we liked the most of Gala was efficient staff and fast service. Enjoyed the simplicity of the menu, prices and the venue. The flavour of each dish was pretty authentic; only that we were disappointed with the dryness of chicken satay and the insufficient sauce both in the stir fry Gai Lan with crispy pork and stir fry chicken with cashew nut.

*3.5/5

TLDR; Pad Thai shockingly bad, Pad Ka Praw crispy pork really good but don’t know if it’s worth the barrage of salt

Interesting ordering system. As you can see in the photos, they have the four of us two tablets where you could look through the menu and order something with a few clicks. I liked the efficiency but makes me wonder about the death of human interaction in this increasingly technology-dependent society...

Atmosphere was very busy, with loud conversations from other tables mingling with the cooking from the open kitchen. Waiters were always rushing in and out, and while they were perfectly nice, their demeanour was a little abrupt. Food came out very quickly though.

Entrees
1. S&P calamari ($10): very tender and not stringy with a nice crispy exterior, but too salty and the pieces were pretty small, 3.5/5
2. Pork dim sim ($9): good, 5/5
3. Chicken satay skewers ($9): nutty sauce was very much needed because the chicken was dry and a bit tough, 3/5

Mains
1. Pad Thai ($16)
This is the weirdest Pad Thai I’ve ever had. There was something deeply wrong with the noodles. I think it may have been because they were over cooked, because they stuck together and had a unpleasant mushy texture. The flavour was also pretty weak. 1/5

2. Pad Ka Praw crispy pork ($20)
This had a super strong spicy garlic flavour which I appreciated while eating it but not so much an hour later when all the salt hit me and I had to down multiple cups of water. I really loved the pork belly though - it was the perfect mix of tender meat, crunchy skin and flavoursome fat. 4/5 (deducted one point for saltiness)

Good vibe! Not very crowded. Outdoors seats are comfortable. Friendly staff! Nice food! We ordered red curry and Pad Thai, calamari salad, all the dishes are delicious! good value! Will definitely visit again!

Excellent fresh Thai food at a great price. We’ve been there a couple of times now and loved it each time. Every dish we have tried has been absolutely delicious. The owners are friendly and make you feel welcome. My husband loves the selection of beer. I am so excited to have won the Valentines dinner competition on Facebook.
We’ll definitely be back...
We travel from mount cotton for this gem. 😋

This is the best Thai food I've had since I came to Brisbane! The boss is very nice! And Coconut milk is highly recommended! All food I had tasted very good !

Thai restaurants are very nostalgic for my partner and I as they are where we spent many of our first dates. We were very much looking forward to checking out the new Thai restaurant in West End, Gala Thai!. Location, ambiance & service. Gala Thai is located on Boundary Street, but the ‘less busy’ side. You most likely won’t have an issue finding a park, unless it is a very busy Friday or Saturday night. We visited on a Saturday night, however, very early (around 5:30PM). The restaurant was busy and there were only one or two waitresses but despite this there was no delay with service or receiving your food. The restaurant was run very efficiently, and the service was friendly.

It's was last year when we actually visited Gala Thai & we were very impressed. Thought all the food to be as authentic as you would get this side of Thailand cooked & served with passion. My laksa had good depth of flavor with a nice delicate spice blend & fresh chillies. Those dumplings we had for entree were a hit for me. Simply done with cases of silk which melted in the mouth

It’s no secret that there is many a Thai restaurant Brisbane town. No matter which suburb you enter into, chances are there will be a Tom Yum on offer somewhere. . With competition this high, to be classified as a good Thai restaurant is serious kudos indeed. West End's Gala Thai is a good Thai restaurant.

I came on Friday with my Mum to Gala Thai. First impressions were that this restaurant was really cute, and immediately we felt very welcome with the friendly waitress.

We ordered a couple of starters, San Choi Baw, and the Salt n Pepper Tofu (and a cheeky glass of red)

For the mains we ordered the duck curry which we were told is one of the most popular dishes...I Can see why, it was so delicious! And we also got Pad See-ew which tasted really fresh compared to other places i have had it. Both were beautiful but if i had to choose one it would be the Duck Curry!

I saw someone at another table had ordered the Massaman Beef, and it looked soooo good, so next time i come i will have to try it.For dessert we had a mango sorbet which was the perfect way to end the meal.

My mum is a typical asian mum who is critical of the food when we go to an asian restaurant haha but she loved it. The flavours were authentic and she asked me if i will take her back again soon.Asian Mum approves!!! :D Love it and will be back. There are so many good thai restaurants in Brisbane, and this is one of them!

The family and I were invited by Jip, owner manager of Gala Thai, to come by for a meal and we chose to stop in for lunch.

You order through tablets and after a quick lesson on how to use it, we were off. My wife ordered a Singha beer and moments later it arrived at the table so they're certainly a gun on service! Good selection of Thai beers which is a must in my eyes at a great Thai restaurant.

We shared two entrees, pork dumplings and peking duck pancakes. Both were great, just wish they'd been a little bigger cause they left us wanting more. For mains I chose chicken pad see-ew (a flat rice noodle dish with dark soy dressing) and my wife picked pad ka praw beef (spicy beef mince with veges and rice). Loved them both. Heat was spot on, quite spicy which makes for a nice change as so often Australian Thai restaurants go light on the chilli. You can order mild, medium or hot when placing your order via the tablet system too.

Great service, authentic, delicious food and and all round top Thai joint. Highly recommended, cheers again for having us guys!

We were invited to dine at Gala Thai and as lovers of Thai food, my husband and I were very excited! We came for lunch and staff were so welcoming, setting us up outside with plastic cutlery and bowl for our toddler and a highchair as well. It's the little touches that make dining with a toddler much more enjoyable so this was very much appreciated.

The ordering system is done via small tablets and after a quick tutorial, we were swiping and selecting our meals. They have a good selection of Thai beer so we both started with Singha and they arrived moments after ordering via the tablet.

To start, we chose peking duck pancakes, a favourite of mine, and pork dumplings. The pancakes were really tasty, fresh and the duck was cooked well. I just wish there were more than two to a serve! The dumplings were also nice, not a massive flavour punch but tasty all the same.

For main my husband chose pad see-ew with chicken - flat wide noodles in a dark soy sauce and I ordered pad ka praw beef - spicy beef mince with vegetables, bamboo shoots and rice. Both were packed full of flavour and had a great amount of heat. Perhaps if you're not keen on chilli I'd say ask for mild (which you can request when placing your order on the tablet) but we both loved the spice level. Pad see-ew is always a classic but I often find it drowning in sauce however Gala Thai got it bang on making a really great dish. I had never had pad ka praw beef before but I'm converted! So much spice and flavour, I absolutely loved it. I don't actually think it needed the rice, it tasted great on it's own and was a substantial meal.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meals at Gala Thai and only wish we lived closer so this could be our local Thai restaurant. Locals in West End are lucky as it's a fantastic spot and one we'd definitely recommend checking out. Thank you so much to Jip and the whole team for a delicious lunch, great service and all round terrific meal.

West End is home to a variety of eateries, and Gala Thai joined the throng on Boundary Street a few months ago. We received an invitation to visit, and were keen to see what the (relatively) new kid on the block had to offer. It is just a little way up from the busy part of Boundary Street, with the signage easy enough to spot from the walkway. “Gala”, it says, capital letters in black on white, and the same just beside it, this time in a handwriting font in white on black. It does also say Thai, Asian, and Beer under that in less clear lettering, partly obscured by drawings of coconuts and herbs.

We finally had a break from our busy schedule and took some time out to devour some quality Thai food from this new cafe in West End. As a bonus everything was ordered using a tablet (image below), so we didn’t have to do anything but eat :) . We decided to go easy on our stomachs, and have diet coke and sparkling passionfruit.

Like my fellow Zomato reviewers, Joe K and Ronnielui2003, Adam Pinzone and I were invited to try out Gala Thai at West End. With the rush up to year end, we were busy running errands throughout the morning in the city and made our way there for a quick and enjoyable lunch before continuing on with our quests. Situated along boundary street, it is a quick stroll from the city, which I imagine would have been quite refreshing had it not been for the heat. Seating was split both indoors and outdoors with the outside seating getting the midday breeze whilst indoors was air conditions. There is no question of where we chose to sit.

Phuong Tran and I are invited to dinner here and on arrival we see Owner Jip attending to two large groups of patrons. Warmly greeted we are seated and provided with a smart phone menu. We order 2 Entrees, 2 Mains and refreshments.

A small restaurant with the kitchen so close to the dining room, a more efficient exhaust fan is needed as the cooking smells are quite overpowering. A short wait and our meal is served.

*Chicken Satay Skewers ($9) are tender and served with a nice satay sauce and crushed peanuts.

*Peking Duck Pancakes ($9) is a serving of two small pancakes with sliced duck meat. Nicely presented and tasty but a pricy dish.

*Duck Tam ($22) is sliced roast duck with an Asian salad. Nicely presented the duck is tasty and the salad is refreshing. This is my favourite dish.

*Massaman Beef ($18) with Kipfler potatoes is a generous serve. The beef is tender and potatoes cooked just right. Unfortunately, this dish is quite bland. Plenty of coconut cream but I cannot taste the cinnamon, lemon grass, galangal, star anise or tamarind. And there is no chilli heat. This dish needs to be improved.

It is a busy night for Jip and she performs so well I am impressed. Service is good and always with a smile. I can see that the locals frequent this restaurant either dining in or with take away meals. Thank you for your invitation and good luck Gala Thai!

Gala is a great environment with friendly staff. Love their peanut sauce. The satay chicken with rice is so delicious! They have lunch special at the moment is really worth! Go and try it!

Loved this restaurant! If you ever want "instagram-worthy" Thai food this would be the place to come! The service was impeccable and we we're immediately shown how to use the tablets to order. We ordered 2 starters, Pork Dim Sim (4 pieces) and Chicken Karaage which were both delicious. I particularly loved the Pork Dim Sim with the sauce they provided. We then ordered 2 mains, the Slow Cooked Massaman Beef (GF) and the Duck Tam (GF). Absolutely loved the duck, and it was probably the best duck I have ever tasted. Would recommend this place to anyone, and it's a perfect addition to West End.

This place is awesome, I’ve been quite a bit. I particularly like the duck san Choi-bow and the duck curry, as well as the various barramundi dishes. The stir-fries are very fresh and crispy. They also recently added some beer to the menu. Highly-recommend.

Superb Thai specialities made with a personal touch. I enjoyed every mouthful of my fragrant Pad Ka Praw with a fried egg option. (Look for the signature japanese chilli garnish.) Another highlight was the full flavoured satays with nicely balanced sauce. Very reasonably priced and super relaxed service. We loved our shaded spot outside on a stunning Spring day.

What’s not to love about Gala Thai!? It’s cute, fresh and just what West End needed!!! I’ve been here a couple of times now. It great for a quick lunch or a casual dinner with friends. You can order on IPad which is so cool! Highly recommend the Duck!
