Review Double Shot New Farm - Brisbane

Cherie H
Lively and casual cafe with plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, also dog friendly. We went on a Sunday morning, It was busy but we got a table without a wait. Ordering is at the counter and they also have a specials board. My salmon bowl was fresh and generous, I was definitely full by the end. Presentation was nice and coffee was good too.

We go there almost every weekend! Every time, we are satisfied. Fast service and great taste. My absolute go-to is the Sardines. Good old sardines can be so good!!!

Breakfast board was good, remember to add extra sausage if you are a meat lover (which was tasty). Coffee was good but not the best.

Great coffee and Eggs Benny. The hollandaise sauce is rich and flavoursome.

Usually the food is great but today I was disappointed. Poached eggs perfectly cooked but must have a new supplier. No flavour, like caged eggs. Asked for ham instead of bacon. Received Coles style deli ham with neither texture nor taste. Sourdough would benefit from the option of butter. Too thick to be dry. Not mad about the salsa either but that’s just me. Teapot was too full such that ratio of water to leaves left a rather weak offering. Hopefully costs have not led to a cutting of corners and hope it was just a bad day. This was one of my favourite cafes in New Farm and food always worth the slight premium they charge. Better luck next time.

I bet you strudel shall be accompanied with cream and ice-cream! Coffee as well awesome! Thanks!

Crossed the river to have breakfast at Double Shot and the pea and halloumi fritters were delicious. The staff were lovely. The only reason for the lost star was my oat milk latte was half full and underwhelming, everything else ticked the boxes!

Great food and friendly staff, strange little location but over nice and would return

I love taking first timers to Double Shot. Their delight and amazement is always a joy to observe. The staff are friendly and always on the go, the coffee is excellent, eggs perfectly done, and each meal is a visual and culinary feast. Most meals are a bit big for most females but our partners are ready to finish our plate/board. The cereal with yoghurt, miniature milk bottle and berry compote was large but incredibly delicious. Eat inside or out- bring your dog - come early or late! Drive or take a City Cat and have a short suburban walk. Just don't forget to try this great place.

Best breakfast I've ever had, perfectly poached eggs (and I am incredibly fussy when it comes to such a thing!), fresh produce and loads of it. I would definitely recommend the breakfast board 👌🏻
Pat Turner
Excellent breakfast. The restaurant was very busy but didn't take long for our meal to come out. There were three of us all having a different meal and everyone was very happy with their selection.

I am never disappointed when visiting. The service is friendly and welcoming, the food is great and I love that one of the employees (I'm assuming the manager?) personally delivered a puppycino to our dog who loved it.

I checked out trip advisor before jumping on the city hopper to get to this cute cafe in the leafy suburb of Newfarm... what can I say Double barrel most definitely lived up to expectations! Beautifully presented food - delightful staff and scrummy menu- thank you

All round excellent at Double Shot. I have had eggs benny here twice now and it's the best I've ever had! Coffee is great and service is top.

TL;DR: It is a New Farm institution more or less, that doesn't require an introduction. For me, it might have been adequate from the decent quality food, but a lot of it was tainted by service that seemed to coast purely on the name. Just getting it off the list as a resident of Brisbane, but that is about it.

There are so many weekends to come, and so many places to put on the list with newbies popping up left, right, and center. Putting so much focus on keeping up with the Jones that it has been easy to forget all the veteran cafes that have seen through the years. Many of them get the highest scores, the most votes, and more or less enter the fray on that odd occasion. It was the case this time around, with the New Farm/Newstead area being the focal point. Whatever was specifically the influence to finally decide on Double Shot as the breakfast joint, I can't remember; yet this has been one of those cafes quietly beckoning a review.

It was alright. They managed to do most of the basic things right, but not everything was up to scratch. What did manage to happen was getting a decent, filling meal; yet underneath the operations there was not a whole lot of care going around. Business is ruthless in this part of town, so everyone got to be on their game.

Even if this was the worst place ever, what I would stop and actually give kudos to is what they have done with the amount of space they have been given, combined with the popularity they have acquired over the years. It is among the apartment complexes, so the amount of space is a mere room plus the kitchen, and this time around they got lucky with some balcony space. This is one place that is constantly busy as well, so they also have the turnover to consider. If this were more out in the Styx, you could mistake it for a quiet side street. Tables spill across the sidewalk, plus all the trees around help give it some shade along with the umbrellas.

A few atmospheric aspects are beyond their control, so I will give plenty of leeway that way. What I can't give leeway to is when customer service is bad. Or if bad is a harsh word to use, the customer service came across as a bit too complacent. In spite of there being several waitstaff wandering around, setting up tables, organising where clients go, and bringing out the meals, what I didn't see was an actual sense of organisation.

Believe me, I have been reviewing for nearly eight years as of writing this review and I have experienced the whole nine yards when it comes to customer service. Not everything has to be super attentive, that much I know. I have been in much busier places, where the organisation was far more meticulous and they managed to get things done. You could tell at those places a true care in how the clients took to the customer service; when it came to the customer service at Double Shot Espresso much of me thought they were coasting on their name, and their reputation. That, my friends, is called complacency.

The menu is mostly going for the cafe style vibe. It has a broad and fairly rich all-day breakfast menu, which starts of with the light continental options, before delving into all things eggs, and getting a few exotic options thrown in for good measure. Lunch is essentially a range of sandwiches plus a few other cafe-style classics - still relatively light. From memory, they also have the usual range of sweets and such in the cabinet for when business is winding down, and starting to wrap up.

As for the drinks, likewise it is the usual range you can get from a cafe. These start out with the normal lot of tea and coffee, but they also provide a solid cold drink selection. These includes sodas, include milkshakes and their ilk, they have several juices to offer as well. Around the lunch time rush, the alcohol comes out in forms of beer, wines, ciders and all that jazz.

It started off as per normal, getting some drinks. This is breakfast which means only one kind of drink - that is coffee. When it comes to coffee, I like to keep it simple and that usually means a doppiio. It is my weird on-and-off friend, Merlo that serves up the beans this time. In more recent times, I have had a better relationship with Merlo here - much of it comes around to how talented the barista behind the machine is. That is an absolute necessity, as it can be the difference between an adequate coffee and a fantastic coffee.

This time around, the coffee was decent. It was not anything outstanding, they didn't burn it or anything, and there was an adequate amount of extraction. The temperature was fine, so was the flavour albeit without any apparent clues to the notes and whatnot.

As much as the coffee itself was good, the mode that it was served was strange to say the least. They used a regular water glass to pour in the coffee. As such, it was only about an inch high in the glass and the aesthetics - which I understand more and more as I go on - did not bode well for it. This looked slack, or could be mistaken as remnants of someone else's drink being served right up, or just several other conclusions. It wasn't a gripe as such then, but come to think of it, this is a gripe. This implies a lack of planning, and leads to something that I swear has was apparent in the air - complacency seeping into the customer service, that is the worst kind of service you can get.

The meals that were ordered were a breakfast burrito, and a Spanish sausage called txistorra. Both of these were decent meals, and adequately portioned. The burrito was a simple combination of scrambled eggs, chorizo, and grated cheese, with some avocado on the side and a mixed pepper salsa. This was simple in execution, with the scrambled eggs taking up a lot of the room. The chorizo added that nice spicy flavour it is known for, and when the cheese melted it made it all the more enjoyable. On the side, the avocado acted as a good condiment that was creamy, and wholesome. All up, this isn't so bad as a filling meal - a bit on the basic side, and not anything that is to write home about, yet still satisfying all up.

With the Spanish sausage, on the side it had truss tomato, mushrooms, and poached eggs along with sourdough toast and a beetroot relish. Less spicy, and more with a rich sort of flavour, them deciding to go simple was the right choice. I also managed to nibble a bit of the mushroom - cooked well - and a bit of the tomato - getting cooked just enough to release the flavours. I think of this as a Mediterranean version of the fry-up.

This is one more place that I reckon is coasting too much on its reputation, and as a result much of it can come across as complacent. In particular, that was the case with the service. While props are given to them keeping themselves busy, there wasn't that impression they cared that much for the experience being good - the things like asking how things were, or checking up on the clients occasionally. It took something that has a reputable reputation, and dragged it down into barely above mediocrity. It might be me going against the grain, that I can accept. But to even the most storied institution, you should work well and present yourself as the new up-and-comer - always.

I wish I lived closer than a thirty six hour journey from here. What a place to have as a neighbourhood cafe. Loved the staff, the smoked trout, the danish, the value for money. Thanks
The Gluten-Free Foodie
This is one of the best cafes in Brisbane and I absolutely love it! Have been here before then change to a gluten free diet and found it excellent. I recently went back and felt like a toastie and was concerned about gluten free cooking environment with sandwich press but staff were very GF aware and even made what is usually a wrap into a sandwich for me to enjoy due to other preferences.
I ordered the twice cooked potatoes on the side which are also GF and they were perfect match with the sandwich. The food was good portion size and delicious. I felt very comfortable and happy with the service. Would dine there all the time if I could!

Double Shot could be claimed as an establishment in the cafe landscape of Brisbane. From the flaky pastry and eggs to the tarts on offer they constantly hit it out of the part considering how small the kitchen is.
Stelyios
Nestled in a small street of New Farm you find this cafe/restaurant. This tiny cafe produced very tasty tarts and muffins and most importantly even better coffee.

At the cafe you can find a great selection of cakes/tarts/slices and a breakfast menu for which portion sizes are large and prices are reasonable. Whether you want something satisfying, on the go or have a sweet tooth this is the place to give a shot!

The only downside is there is no table ordering service but once ordered, the dishes are brought to your table. The staff are incredibly friendly and all have a large smile on their face greeting all customers which is always a plus.

Wonderful cafe!! No matter the environment or the food are both incredible!! Nevertheless, it’s not very that suitable for my own taste.....

Have not be around the area for 35 years since I lived very close to this cafe's location back to 1982. Dropped in this morning and found that this is a very busy local café with lots of customers starting early in the morning at 7:00am. Took a seat and perused the menu, then walked to the counter and placed my order. My flat white came to the table first, which was well presented, hot and strong with Merlo brew - my favourite brand. Next came to the table was my new change which selected from the brekkie menu - Spanish sardines on toast. Looked at the broad with all the food, which made me a spectacular feeling. A whole tin of sardines accompanied with three slices of sourdoughs, rockets, slices of fresh tomatoes, relish and garlic mayonnaise that kick-started my appetite prior to my first bite on the sourdough with sardines, relish & mayonnaise on top. Wow! The sourness from the sauce of sardine with the creamy garlic flavour of the mayonnaise and the spiciness from the relish really shape a complicated taste that constructed an orchestra in my mouth. I love this feeling and could not help myself to finish the dish. This brekkie really makes my day. Thank you!

Tasty flavours and food combinations, love the fact that there is all day breakfast, plenty of seating. Would have been better if eggs weren’t hard poached...

Quite a cute neighbourhood cafe, the barista working did very well despite having merlo beans to work with. Cakes were good, unsure if bought or made though.
Decor and atmosphere was a inviting and well thought out.

Always exceptional with great service. The go to spot when I lived just down the road. Great value pricing. The mango coconut smoothie, ugh — so good.

Stopped here after a bike ride on a hot sunny day for a cold iced latte and a sandwich. The lamb sandwich was absolutely delicious and definitely hit the spot. Great quality crunchy bread and soft slow roasted lamb with pea/mint puree.

There's often a wait to sit at doubleshot but that's an indicator of how good the food is. Lots of tables inside and out so the turnover is still impressive. Huge menu that'll suit whatever you fancy; their homemade baked beans were delicious and the platters have every staple just in case you can't decide!

Doubleshot ... consistently good food, imaginative menu, generous servings, great service and reasonable prices ... I've been here about six times now and it has always been fantastic. Nothing better on a nice day than a city cat ride and brunch at Doubleshot!

Double Shot was recommended to us by our favorite blog girl Espresso&Matcha. Quality ingredients, generous portion size and Merlo coffee have captured her heart for several years. To find out what it’s all about, the Tomcat family visited for weekend brunch.

Went here for breakfast with a friend, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Ordered the breakfast bowl and the haloumi fritters, the eggs were poached perfectly and the salad was very refreshing. The fritters were delicious, but my friend said that the relish was a bit too sweet for her. Ordered a cappuccino, it was one of the best I’ve ever had, it has the right strength and not too milky. I will definitely come back again and highly recommend this place to my friends.

The two stars go to the lovely staff at the cafe and the generous and delicious breakfast burrito. Unfortunately the same can't be said for their coffee and rhubarb yogurt. The Rhubarb was so sour it was almost inedible even with the yogurt. The coffee was awful (but that might be because I'm a Melbourne coffee snob) and came out after we had finished our meals. The staff were fabulous but everything else was a let down.

Best mushrooms in Brisbane...do I need to say more 🤗

Always friendly service, great coffee, great location and pet friendly. The food here is incredible, be it a gourmet breakfast or coffee and cake!

Fresh and scrumptious! Classic eggs breakfast with poached eggs is a winner. Warm and inviting environment. Best for brunching! Oh! And not to mention- one of the best flat whites I've had

Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Met up with some friends for a lovely breakfast at Double Shot New Farm.

The Iced Latte was a little weak, but good (3). The presentation of the Babyccino was great - one of the best I've seen in a while (4).

The Breakfast Burrito was massive. The avocado and red bell pepper salsa were great, but the chorizo would have been better if it had been cooked a little longer to crisp up. Overall, this rated a 3.5.

The croissant was huge and the serving of jam (quite literally an individual jar of jam) was extremely generous, especially when you consider that the whole thing was only $4.50. Light and extremely flaky, this rated a 4.

The Poached Eggs on Sourdough Toast was quite nice. The eggs were cooked perfectly - the yolk was beautiful! The sourdough toast was a little chewy, which I like, and was the perfect size to accompany two perfect eggs. Although basic, this was a well done dish and rated a 4.5.

We also ordered a Lemon Sponge for takeaway. It had good flavour, but was just a bit dry. This rated a 3.5.

I'm not a huge fan of counter service, but the prices were good and the size of the breakfast burrito and croissant were generous. The restaurant was open and there were ceiling fans, but it was quite warm and would have benefited from some air conditioning. Based on other reviews I expected chilled water, but we went through five bottles and none felt chilled.

Overall, the food was a 4, the coffee/babyccino was a 3.5 and the atmosphere rated a 3. The company was a 5, but Double Shot doesn't get credit for that!

I struggled to assign an overall rating, but landed on 3.5 vs 4 because the overall was definitely above average, but not quite great. Air conditioning would have easily bumped the rating to a 4.

Finally come to back to where our reviewing journey started - Double Shot! We came across this beauty after a recommendation from MB's colleague early last year.

Service - cannot fault the service. On each occasion we have been here, service has always been great. The staff are super friendly, clearing the table in a timely manner and always smiling. Although it is counter service and it does get incredibly busy, service is quick and efficient with coffee and food arriving at the table fairly quickly.

Double Shot is very easy to find. Great location, down a quiet street in New Farm with plenty of street parking.

I ordered the Croque Madame with a side of haloumi. The croque madame was pretty good but where was the rest of my ham and cheese filling? The bread was cut quite thick so it felt like I was eating just bread with no filling at all. The homemade onion marmalade is delicious but it seemed like there wasn't as much of it as there usually is. The poached eggs were perfect. The whites just set and when poked with my fork, a stream of gorgeous rich, golden velvety goodness greeted me. The haloumi was incredibly salty. Now coming from someone who loves salty food, this says a lot. It was salty to the point it hurt my throat. There was nothing on my plate that could counter that saltiness.

For dessert (yes, there is always a dessert after each meal brekky), I had the lemon curd tart. I love all things citrus so I was super excited for this tart. The base, taste wise, was really good - buttery and slightly sweet. Texture wise, I would consider it overbaked. It had been in the cabinet chilled and the tart shell was lined with chocolate so this could have contributed to the shell being so solid. It was really hard to break through with a spoon. The curd itself - delicious. I love a sharp hit in my lemon curd so this was epic. Complimented nicely but the chocolate lined in the tart shell and the sweet vanilla cream on top. It was lovely looking at the cream and seeing flecks of vanilla, delish! It was quite rich overall so definitely a dessert to share but it was very yummy.

Overally, food was pretty good but a little disappointed by the portions. Good coffee and so many delish items in the cabinet to choose from. Price is good too - 2 breakfast meals, 2 coffees and a lemon curd tart cost us around $50. A good place to meet up with friends for brekky.

The Hungry Little Goldfish (forgot to tag you friend! Sorry!)

Have been here a few times and no complaints, but having not gone for a while thought it was time to revisit.

Cant recall if they served merlo coffee last time I was here put pleasantly suprised to see that they do now, very quick delivery of coffee and tops to the barista for wipping up a fine brew, coffee not an issue, loved it. We move onto the brekky and unfortunately this is were the let down begins, I ordered the breakfast board and to my suprise the serving size has gotten a lot smaller, less greens, less meat, less cheese and all over smaller portion, tasted good just expecting more on the board. Love the feel and location of double shot, staff very attentive and friendly and cant fault that aspect. Brilliant start to the weekend. This is the tastiest Pulled Pork & Spicey Apple pie that I have ever had, it was AWESOME!!!
This pie is not brought into the cafe externally but is made onsite.
The feel, location and service also is very excellent, a cafe that is defintetly worth the visit!!
We were promptly greeted with a friend service and seated in a nicely ventilated. I ordered a long black which was very syrupy, chocolately and spicy in a good way. My friend's flat latte was smooth with silky foam.
One down side was that the cafe should have been a full table service, not order and pay at the counter.
Rebecca
The flaky pastry with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon was the perfect choice. The eggs were so creamy and the salmon was a generous serve. I'm just disappointed I didn't try the coffee.
Cheryl
There are plenty of choices on the menu,
I always check their specials as they create new dishes all the time-beautiful, delicious and healthy cuisine :) ~ not to mention the unbeatable friendly service too. My girl and my puppy both love coming here.
Kat Lau
Caramel mushroom is a pleasant surprise. Pretty store. However the smoothie is more milkshake than smoothie, a bit too sweet for breakfast.

I love double shot, great friendly staff. Lovely food. The breakfast menu is amazing and the coffee is always great! Highly recommended going here if in the area

Took my friends dogs (& her), out for a walk in New Farm park, as a non-pet owner, it was an ideal afternoon, completed by a lovely brunch / lunch at double shot.
I'm a longtime New Farm local & only recently started coming here.
Great coffee, efficient / awesome service (to be fair she was an old acquaintance of mine). I'm sure she'd be the same with everyone though. She's a peach :)
Food was quite small for the price, everything looked & tasted like it had a clear professional touch.
I had the salmon & potato cake, it was pretty ok, I have a small appetite & was still peckish.
My friends salad was delicious though. I'd negotiated more than a couple of mouthfuls . Instant food envy.
My super cute British bulldog companion who happily slobbered & panted under the table decided to go feral out of nowhere.... We made a hasty departure, deranged dogs in tow.
Cool afternoon, good bite to eat, what's not to like (??)
Love this cafe! It's a regular weekend treat! The food is always exceptional and very tasty. The Parisian breakfast is great value and my favorite. Amazing coffee. Service is great and staff are very friendly.

I have been to Double Shot for both Breakfast and Lunch but this review was based on my lunch experience. As I am a bit of a breaky addict it's quite a big deal for me to go to lunch! I decided on the Green Papaya and Coconut Chicken Salad. I was very happy with my choice the ingredients were fresh and the chicken delicious although it was lacking dressing - needed more than lime juice alone. The staff have always been lovely and accommodating. 80% of the seating is outdoors so it is quite weather dependant, See you next time ;)
Laura Jane
This has been a favorite weekend brunch spot of ours for a while now. The cost is more like$50 after two meals and coffee, however the meals are scrumptious and perfectly sized. Of note, the coffee is sometimes burnt and the cafe doesn't look on anything nice in particular but I would still recommend coming here.

Double Shots Expresso – My sacred breakfast spot.
For many of us, having a delicious breakfast on the weekend is like a religion, it heals you and you are cured. All the stressful and tightened nerves are loosen right after a sip of the double shot expresso. It is a simple philosophy – Worse your week went; the greater joy you will receive by a scrumptious breakfast.
If you asked me what was the most delicious food I had ever tasted? Without any hesitation, my heart goes Duck Breast dish in Dish of Byron Bay in 2009 which Chef Michael de Laurence had brought me my first “Eyes roll up” experience. And it is almost heart broken to know this two out of the four-hatted restaurant was unfortunately closed down during the GFC in 2010; since then I could only recall this heavenly favour in my dream!
Not until recently, I had found that same sensation again several times when I started to set my foot to this New Farm café - Double Shot Expresso.
I once seriously thought they MUST have some fairies cooking for them as it has a world’s tiniest kitchen I have never seen. All the dishes are just magically presented to you by a staff with a warm but apologetic smile saying “ So sorry for keep you waiting!” YES, that is the fact, I often waited 40 minutes for a dish during their peak time and trust me for the person like me who has a middle name “No Patience” that is a huge deal! But let me tell you folks, it is the most worthy 40 minutes time I had ever waited. And if you think I am alone, you are wrong, the house is packed! And trust me, we know what we are doing!
Remember those moment you rolled your eyes up and thought you are having an orgasm, the good news is, in here, you don’t even have to pretend you are having one, you will actually get one, well, with food of course! The corn bread, the chicken terrine, the duck paté, the flaky pastry, even the supporting actor of the dish capsicum pickles, the list goes on and on….. They are doing what people often say “all make sense”!
And guess who made all these possible, here I present to you - Chef Michael de Laurence and Owner Ross Skinner! What can I say, you guys had done it again! For me, those eyes roll up moments all made senses now!

Caution! For those whom had been here, please stop telling people how good this place is, I think 40 minutes is long enough to wait!!!

Your truly Vita & André
Jay
Hands down the best breakfast in New Farm. The food and service here always ensure I leave with a smile on my face. The owners work really hard to make sure the high standard is consistent. The place is always immaculate and if all that isn't enough, you can take your furry friend out for brunch as this place has been voted the best dog friendly cafe in Brisbane!!!
Ruth Keily
Had breakkie here on a busy, Thursday morning. The staff were friendly, super helpful and efficient, despite being rushed off their feet! Classic bacon, poached eggs and tomato were great and the cafe was able to happily accomodate gluten free. if you enjoy Merlo coffee, then you will be happy. Great vibe.
Espresso&Matcha
With my recent pleasant experiences in Pablo and Au Cirque, a companion of mine decided to try out another brunch place in New Farm - Double Shot Espresso. We arrived to quite a crowd outside, and were told that we needed to wait for a table. Luckily we were given the menu to peruse whilst we waited.
Charity Corro Guiao
Food was really good. I especially liked the brunch board. The parsley oil, lemon and feta brought the dish to a new level. Coffee was strong and good too! We're definitely coming back! Would love to have an option of having bacon instead of ham though, but apart from that it's a great neighbourhood cafe.
The Invisible Food Critic
Really nice tapas and light meals here. Although the place is quite exposed to the road, but the service and the taste of the dishes makes you forget your surroundings and be lost within your own tastebuds. Nice little place!
Sophie
Fresh tasty food. The croissants are always fresh and their Parisian breakfast is beautifully presented. The cafe is also dog friendly which is fantastic.

Fantastic brunches! Amazing location! Friendly staff! Spectacular, consistent and delicious food whether you are a sweet tooth or salty tooth person.

Came here for a brunch catch up a while ago and ordered a boiled egg with a variety of small breakfast foods. It was the cutest breakfast I have had to date. The coffee was a bit bitter from what I remember, but they had fresh juices which were lovely. It's near a bookshop and surrounded by greenery, making it a perfect cozy nook for a coffee shop!

Double Shot provides consistently delicious food and smooth, full bodied coffee. The staff are lovely and even on the busiest mornings, always have time for a quick chat.

Really love this cafe. It's situated on a quieter street of the suburb. My partner and I are obsessed with their pork and apple pie, it comes with a spiced fruit chutney, mashed potato AND a decent sized salad. We have had it twice now and it doesn't disappoint. Every other dish we have loved to the same degree and is why this place is a favourite. I will say that the coffee is a little weak in taste, but we are decaf drinkers so maybe their regular bean is stronger in flavour

Yuuuumm and great service. This place has scrumptious menu options, plenty for me though the hubby found them a bit small. They were super happy to adjust the dish to my liking (I had the stewed rhubarb from one meal with the coconut bread from another) and the cherry on top of the cake was that I ran into Glenn Robbins there. Although I guess they can't take full credit for that...
Brisbanefoodie101
THE BEST place for Brekky in Brisbane. Have been coming here every week for brekky for about 2 months now, have never had a bad meal or bad coffee - the staff are so friendly and welcoming and the smashed avocado and eggs are a must - you have to try this place!
Chris Perry
Nice food, slow slow service, poor coffee. Went for Brunch on a Sunday and had to wait a little while to get in which is I guess to be expected on a nice weekend. Pretty much it's self-serve - get your own water, order at the counter, OK. The coffee is Merlo brand and pretty mediocre. No nice roasts or single origins, closer to McCafe quality. We ordered Boston baked beans which surprisingly came with two poached eggs on top (this is not mentioned on the menu). We also ordered the baked eggs which were nice, if not a bit watery from the cheese. Also the Paris breakfast which was simple and nice enough. Sadly we took an hour to get our food whilst others that arrived later were served before us, possibly because they had simpler dishes.
I know they have a small kitchen but an hour is too long - let people know and limit your table numbers so you can serve people in an appropriate time.

Not going back.

The best breakfast ever and coffee. I am a foodie and can not find any where that pleases me apart from my own home where I cook up a storm but Double shot espresso New Farm is the best breakfast and lunch cafe that I have ever been to - today I had poached eggs with bacon and grilled tomato with a lovely chilli sauce with some rocket and sourdough toast on the plate beautifully displayed but the taste was like having it cooked at home so good there was not one thing I could complain about it was perfect - I have had lunch there as well but their sweets are the best I have had for along time as they are all cooked on their premises and they are the best - again I cook all my own cakes and desserts at home myself so I am very judgemental when I go out as desserts are one of my main things that I pride myself with but they are as good as what I make and that is a huge compliment for them. Very organized there the staff are lovely and the coffee is excellent. I rarely comment but this is such a great restaurant that I felt I needed to let others know how good it is.

Very disappointing. This morning we attempted to to go double shot cafe only to be completely ignored by the waitress. We were waiting for a table and walked past us about 30cm away, purposefully not making eye contact and greeted the people waiting just behind it. Even though double shot was our new favourite cafe we won't be going back. I don't pay to be treated like garbage.

We cant go anywhere else now.... My partner and I had a rule of trying a new place each week for our breakfast and coffee date, but that failed once we tried Double Shot. We don't want to go anywhere else. The service is perfect, the same staff making that fantastic food and coffee and you can tell they love the environment they work in too. It's the place we rave to all our friends and family as a must try!! I haven't known another cafe to be so consistent over and over again! Perfect!

Great place for breakfast. It's great to see the same smiling faces who remember you even after month's away. Little to no staff turn over which is probably indicative of a good and happy place to work. Everyone gets a warm and friendly greeting and the staff are very helpful. Fantastic food and all day breakfast - they're even dog friendly. The only problem with sharing how good they are is trying to get a seat now the secret is out.

How to run a warm truly welcoming tasty food eatery. Well done boys ! the whole experience is great, the menu takes you on a journey and you always end up with a satisfied glow on your face. The owner Michael even makes his own gorgeous pastries and desserts to die for.........the coffee is superb and the staff well they make you happy and thats what counts, keep up the good work hope all works out well in Bulimba too

love it XXX

Lovely. I'll add my praise to all the other positive reviews for Double Shot. Welcoming atmosphere, friendly and prompt service, good coffee and the food was excellent - smashed avo with poached eggs simple, filling and tasty. The other meals and the sweet treats in the cabinet looked equally appealing. Very busy on a Thursday morning and I can only imagine it being busy on a weekend as well. With good reason, I'd say. Would recommend and return.

Excellent!. I'm here almost everyday, haven't had anything I don't like. Fantastic!! Truly lovely service even with pram in tow :)

A must try. Delicious, fresh and beautifully presented food. Generous portions. Really the best service I've experienced in ages. Thanks guys, keep up the great work! Will definitely visit again soon.

A TBH regular - would definitely recommend!. We had the Double shots' flaky pastry with softly scrambled eggs, bacon & tomato $14.50

• Tues-Sun 6-3pm (brunch and opening hours)

• Cap, Abrisca, $3.00

• Tasty food and treats. Wide variety of menu items. There can be a very long wait for food during busy times during the weekend and a lineup for seating. IKEA products are everywhere but they are cute furnishings. Lots of locals and understandably so as it is a lovely cafe.

Best breakfast in Brisbane. The best coffee and breakfast and great value for money. The customer service is also excellent.

Highly recommended!

My partner and I went for breakfast on Sunday morning and were impressed. The food was really delicious and there was clearly attention to detail in the presentation. The portion sizes were big and the coffee was great. Overall excellent value for money and worth a visit.

Seriously best breakfast in Brisbane. I am in love with this place! Have eaten breakfast about 10 times in the past five months and I cannot fault it. Great spot, food is served perfectly every time and the variety is superb. The staff are busy but very good natured with and and unfailingly professional. The caramelised mushrooms are the best meal on the menu but nothing I have tried has been lees than wonderful. Best coffee around too and the desserts are to die for! If I never eat breakfast or lunch anywhere else again I'll be happy....just wish they did dinner!

Most welcome!. This excellent street-front café offers delicious homemade cakes and pastries, as well as lunch and breakfast meals which are wholesome, tasty, imaginative - and well-priced. All the staff are friendly and efficient.
My 'fav local' for a quick or relaxing pick-me-up!

My partner and I are fond of Double Shot as the service is always beautifully warm and welcoming, the food is always delicious and served in generous portion sizes, and the coffee is lovely. Treat yourself to some of the delicious pastries and slices for later too, so delicious!

Great service, good food, very average coffee. The service at this bustling cafe is excellent. They're flat out but remain attentive and polite at all times.

The food is above average, but not top of class.

The coffee is average, at best. Cups are too large and coffee arrives just swimming in milk, which I suppose is good because milk can hide 1000 espresso sins and I suspect those were getting at least some coverage from the milk.

Overall, not the amazing place that some other reviewers have found.

I suspect the coffee aspect has never been that good, from the range of coffee cups they have which just aren't what top flight coffee destinations use.

Poached Perfection. Some friends and I went for a brunch at Double Shot Expresso. When we arrived the only table free was littered with food. One of the employees came within a couple of minutes and cleaned away the previous clients scraps. The meal was delicious and reasonably priced. I ate the poached eggs, crushed avocado with cheese on pane. The serving was just the right size, the poached eggs were perfectly cooked at the waiter was very friendly. The first waitress I spoke to wanted nothing to do with me and acted as if I was invisible so I will give this place a 4-5 (they lost half a mark for service and half a mark for the time taken to clear the table).

Excellence. I had the opportunity again to visit Double Shot and again it was a fantastic start to the day. This small cafe is exceptional in meals and friendly staff. the food is excellent the coffee hits the mark and the staff are friendly and curtious.
What makes it even easier and more relaxing is that they now have EFTPOS facilities!! 11's all round!

Even better the second time. We were back in brisbane this weekend and managed to sneak down to newfarm to visit this busy little cafe again and even though we brought our cold hard cash this time as last time we were unable to order exactly what we wanted as they did not take cards and we only had enough cash for coffee and cakes, we were happy to find they now offer eftpos facility's. The poached eggs with smashed avocado is to die for! these guys really know how to poach and egg and my wife absolutely loved the sardines. Coffee was spot on and staff and friendly and accommodating and we got our food fast even though they were really busy. We will be back :)

What a Find. This is a fine café. Great service, sublime food and nice feel. Will definitely be back... now my favourite in Brisbane.

Possibly the best cafe breakfast I've ever experienced in my life! And the price and portions, such fantastic value! Service and ambience is honest and comfortable. And I'm from Melbourne. Great work!!!

Yum!. Great little brekkie place - the breakfast board is a favourite.

Cash only is an issue but the food and service out rules that. Pet friendly, great atmosphere. Very popular so recommend getting there early or not on a Saturday/Sunday.

A true neighbourhood 'gem', a little off the main drag, where the average outlook is more than compensated for by good coffee, aware staff providing friendly service and excellent food prepared with care. Too good to be true? My wife and I definitely intend another visit to confirm our delighted initial impressions ASAP, following our lunch of toasted ham and vegetable sandwiches, together with two coffees each on our day trip to Brisbane. Oh, and did I mention all this and much more is very reasonably priced? A fresh open appearance, coupled with low background music that doesn't discourage conversation, and a mouth-watering display of cakes has prompted me to write my first ever review in support of this faultless establishment, for normal people. Give this a try and I'm confident you'll be looking to come back, like me.

Popular and very local. Love this place, the café loves what they do...great breakfast and coffees.
Get in there quick for a seat. Its located in New Farm down quite street.
I met a friend for breakfast and we waited 10 minutes for a table. The breakfasts are made with love and are amazing. I am picky about coffee and it was excellent. The bakery section for customers with sweet tooths looks awesome.
Happy gentleman to take your order. Nice...
Bring Cash as they have no eftpos...annoying.

Visited today for brunch after reading all the good reviews and I think I may have found my new favourite brekky cafe. Had the smashed avocado on sourdough with poached eggs and fetta. Eggs were perfectly poached and all the other flavours on the plate were beautifully balanced. I sampled my friends tropical frappe which was delicious and also shared a delicious fruit tart. Meals were quick to come out of the kitchen. Relaxed atmosphere. Attentive and welcoming service. This place definitely deserves its high rating.

Tasty!. After a short wait (less than 10 mins), I was given a table and a menu. After a quick peruse, I settled on my breakfast, ordered up and grabbed a paper.

This funky little cafe was the only option within a quick stroll from my accommodation (I was in New Farm for work), and it has a captive audience of apartment guests who dine alongside a bevy of loyal locals.

A great selection of breakfast options, an amazing array of coffees, hot and cold beverages and fresh juice are on offer, and the kitchen runs efficiently.

I chose the smashed avocado with poached eggs, which arrived on a piece of toasted sourdough, with sliced, fresh tomato, lemon and rocket. Although not overpowered by dressing, the taste of the fresh avocado smash is aided by the lemon, a splash of balsamic vinegar, and my addition of salt and pepper.

A well presented, well cooked set of eggs were perfect to round out this delicious meal. I'll be back!

Pros: Great food, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere.

Cons: Seating is a bit ad hoc, with people wandering in and sitting in seats waiting for people queuing - as it gets busier this can lea to confusion, but is fine overall.

I just had the best ever Spanish sardines on crispy sourdough. Baby spinach, relish and garlic mayonnaise accompanied this dish. If you like trying new things, give this a go. Delicious!

Lovely. New to the area and on an early morning walk, we popped into Double Shot for take away coffees but were tempted to dine in by the delicious breakfast menu. My breakfast platter of ham, eggs, avocado, heirloom tomatoes and feta was spot on, healthy and filling. He ordered Baghdad eggs -- perfectly poached on chewy flatbread with cumin yoghurt, yum! The coffees (with extra shots) were strong and smooth. Service was delightful, the staff knew nearly everyone by name. Special mention to the cakes and sweets, they look amazing. No surprise this place was packed at 6.30am, it's a local treat.

Diana. Was looking forward to the coffee here after reading all the great reviews. Unfortunately I must have picked a bad time as they were very busy being a Sat, the coffee loooked great but had a very washed out flavour with not enough body or substance to it. Not only that when served it was sloshed in the saucer. The food however looked great & will be back to try breakfast for sure. Their selection of sweet treats looked amazing too.

Delicious. Breakfast favourite. Sensational Lunch. I love it.

A cute little gem of a cafe tucked away in the residential area of new farm. very busy but were seated within 15mins. very attentive and accomodating staff. food was out relatively quickly for a sat morning and menu was varied with a selection for all tastes. no eftpos so bring cash! amazing selection of baked goods at the counter also, left with a couple of treats. highly recomended!
Stel
Perfect. I love this place. The cafe service really is fantastic. The waiters are friendly and personable, happy to chat but not over the top. The coffee is perfect every time. The menu is modest, fresh and simple yet still extensive. Two things would make Double Shot perfect for me. Eftpos facilities and a big breakfast!

New favourite?. Went to brunch with a group of friends on a nice sunday morning - we expected to wait a while but i had heard so many good things about this place, so was determined to try it. the waiter was extremely efficient and catering - it was hectic but it never got to his head. he even got a chair for a lady on crunches despite running table to table.
after ~ 15 minutes, we got a table outside, went to order our coffee and breakfast - and everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything!! because there were more people waiting, we decided to get a few of the dessert tarts on the go instead - the blueberry tart was to die for, and the banoffee tart was delicious.
definitely a new favourite of mine - let's hope it stays sort of low key so we dont have to deal with the crazy hour-long queue business!

Great breakfast. Great food, very well price however, as below be prepared for cash only.

Food was great, delicious flavours and good size & price. No eftpos facilities so be prepared and get cash before you go.

Good food with a side of drama. I went to try this resto about a week ago. The location at quiet street, neat place and looks like a perfect spot to start your day in a relaxed way. Sort of remind me of Montana Avenue at Santa Monica California.

We arrived at 9 am, and all table was full. There're 2 group of people was waiting before us. We waited outside, so we didn't see the sign near the counter that says "cash only" About an hour later, we finally got our seat, and that's when the nice waiter told us about the cash only thingy. The closest atm is at the bowling club, which I suspect it's not a proper bank ATM which will charge you a fee. Lucky we have a friend who live nearby. While I line up at the counter to order our food, my husband run quickly and borrow $ 100.00 from him. Lucky us, he has some cash.

Despite all the drama that we have, the food was beautiful. I had Smoked salmon and soft boiled egg on toast with cucumber, and my husband had spicy mushroom. Coffee was good as well. Love the food despite all the drama that we went through. I just don't understand why they didn't have the CC machine considering their price is not that cheap. (We spent about $ 75.00 for our meal.) I don't complain about the price especially when I get that sort of quality of food. It just, I'm the kind of person who rarely have a lot of cash in my wallet.

Nice breakfast with a relaxing and friendly atmosphere!

Becoming a local favourite. This is a small hole in the wall place, but compared to the previous owner the new owners have given it a BIG heart. All the food is prepared in house and the pastries are some of the best in Brisbane. You can see a Pastry Chef has made them with skill and passion. It is refreshing to go to a Cafe, particularly a small one and find in house cakes and pastries, not mass produced/bought in ones. The coffee is fabulous, I have yet to have a bad one, perfect temp, great extraction and also made with skill. It's no 'just about the coffee' type of place, but the coffee standards match the high quality of food. The breakfast turkish roll, is just scrumptious. The partners who own it Ross & Michael and their Barista Coral provide a consistancy to the quality of the food and coffee. Don't judge it against BIG restaurants, judge it for what it is, a small local place that adds to the personality and ambience of New Farm.

Great presentation, friendly service and reasonable prices. Really enjoyed it.

When I first walked into double shot I had high hopes. As a committed cafe customer I was surprised to find my hopes squashed by the attitude of the owners who gossiped about every person who left and said some very distasteful things about their patrons. Upon ordering, the first two things were unavailable and the pained expression of the man behind the counter made me feel unwelcome. The scrambled eggs were soggy and the coffee was burnt. Overall I give double shot 2/10. If you like bad service, poor quality food and don't mind being talked about behind your back then I would recommend double shot.

Lovely decor, stunning coffee in beautiful bodem glasses and divine still warm muffins. They really have got it right.

Winner!. This place is super lovely. Very friendly, approachable staff, stylish decor, high quality everything, attention to detail. Wonderful!!

How refreshing!. How refreshing it was upon my most recent return to Brisbane to find such delicious food and friendly service at New Farm's Double shot Espresso!

Nestled off the beaten track on Oxlade Drive, this quaint little cafe boasts not only fantastic coffee but some of the finest pastries, tarts and soul warming comfort food I've ever tasted! Coming from Melbourne, where the competitive restaurant scene demands the highest quality food and drink, my expectations were already very high. Nevertheless the meal from Double shot far outshined much of the fare i've grown used to further south!

Picking a meal was tough, particularly when the many options of the menu all sounded so tempting and the steady stream of dishes being delieverd to the other tables evoked 'ooohs' and 'ahhs' all around our table.

Putting a modern spin on traditional breakfast fare, Double shot espresso have reinvented dishes like bubble and squeak, with the traditional vegetable pattie replaced with soft golden roasted poatoes and tomatoe topped off with glossy sweet onions and two perfectly poached, gooey centred eggs. I recommend going with a friend who likes to share, as the temptation of food envy quickly over came our party and saw us each sample a bite or two of each others meals.

Our table ordered the fritatta of the day (A slice of pumpkin, spinach and fetta awesomeness served with salad and onion jam), a toasted turkish (an all round crowd pleaser) and the amazing chicken an pistaccio terrine (fresh and flavoursome without even the slightest hint of gelatenous aspic i had previously associated terrines with). Unable to help ourselves, we ordered a blueberry custard tart and a slice of cheesecake topped with passionfruit and strawberries to share for dessert...no regrets there either! A touch of nostalgia was also enjoyed when my caramel milkshake (which was pleasantly not too sickly sweet)was delivered in an old style metal cup!

Better still the cafe is pet friendly with a lucky pooch offered a treat of his own to munch on while his owners enjoyed lunch and the newspaper out the front.

With so many delicious offerings on the menu, like Croque Madame, Stewed Rhubarb with greek yoghurt, the thai chicken salad and smashed avocado, i can't wait to try it again!
