Review 1889 Enoteca - Brisbane

Sam Heathfield
I have had many wonderful experiences at 1889 Enoteca and felt it was about time to publicly post that and share some photos from those visits. Before anyone is put off by the T-bone though, I thoroughly enjoy blue steak, but know it may not be to everyones liking. They can cook it however you like.

An outstanding meal here recently, service was excellent too. Allow yourself to be guided as to what to eat and also regards portion size. You don't want to miss out. Wine selection superb too.

Everything was fantastic. I had my birthday in their event space on Sunday night and every single detail was incredible. The staff were Devine. Food was delicious. Wine even more so. Thank you Lorenzo and his event team!

The best gnocchi ever. I like how they decorate the interior. I think that makes customers to enjoy their meals better. I never drink but the atmosphere made me wanted to enjoy all menu with a glass of wine. Staffs were friendly. I will go visit again soon for the gnocchi.

Our lunch at Enoteca 1889 was amazing. The customer service was awesome, we loved it. Also, the food was really delicious and I’ll share some pictures here. 😁

Our favourite Italian restaurant in the whole of Brisbane. We have been 4 times and it’s only June. The service is always great, there’s a great selection of wines and the food is authentic and high quality.

We had a superb evening at Enoteca, where we felt like we could have been in Italy. The service, food, wine and atmosphere was flawless. The staff were wonderful - very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the wines and food on the menu. We will definitely go again!

Wonderful dining experience! Excellent and authentic food, fantastic and friendly service and exceptional wines. The team were so professional and yet relaxed and warm. They could not have done more to make our experience better - which included giving us a range of taste tests to ensure we ordered the bottle of wine perfect for us. Our best dining experience in Brisbane! Thank you Silvia, Nicola and the team.

We celebrated our anniversary here recently and had a wonderful evening. We were given a lovely table, the service was impecable and the food was beautifully prepared and presented. Our waitress for the evening made some great suggestions for food and wine. Desert was presented on a plate with an anniversary message. We will certainly be making a return visit.

Beautiful food, the best I've ever tasted. And the wine knowledge of staff was outstanding, lovely to here about the region your wine has come from whilst it's poured, and to be able to trust the staff enough to pick a wine for you that compliments your dessert!

It was our wedding anniversary dinner and first time at the restaurant, it was beautifully decorated the atmosphere from the moment we walked in was wonderful, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent from the starter to our main and finishing off with dessert. We are not a big wine drinker but they have a lot to select from but from what she gave my wife to taste she loved it. We highly recommend the place to everyone to dine in 1889 Enoteca. 😁👍

Amazing food! We had the mushroom entree (amazing), the stuffed zucchini flowers (amazing), the gnocchi (amazing), the carbonara (amaaaaazing) and the panna cotta (a delightful way to end the meal). Did I say amazing enough? Great staff - very knowledgeable and friendly. Fantastic experience! We'll be back!

Wonderful food. The Gnocchi is to die for! I wanted to lick my plate. The authentic staff make you feel like you’ve been transported to Roma.
Danielle Conn
I cannot recommend Enoteca highly enough! They are the total package when it comes to functions or just a quick lunch for two. The service, food and drinks are second to none.
Brad Hay
Magnificent food and a sublime selection of wines. The service is efficient but understated, exactly the way it should be. A 5 star experience that I'm happy to highly recommend

Up there with one of the best Italians I have ever eaten at! The choice of wines are exceptional, I can only highly recommend this restaurant.

Thank you to all the wonderful staff who were involved in making my husbands 40th last night a truly memorable evening. Julia was so warm and was very attentive to details co-ordinating things and great with dietary requirements too. The food and wine were simply amazing. The Cellar is the perfect location for an intimate function and we can safely say our guests not only found the venue impressive but all had a fantastic time! Congratulations to this beautiful Brisbane restaurant.

Great service and beautiful ambience. Very authentic food and Italian wait staff! We can highly recommend the Pappardelle Ragu, it never disappoints! We are regulars now and always look forward to our next visit!

After many visits, the occasional long Friday and one large function downstairs; never missed a beat. Great service, friendly, excellent wine knowledge and food without compare or compromise. Best of its kind in Brisbane without doubt.

We celebrated our daughters graduation here . The experience was wonderful, lively, welcoming, professional staff who knew their stuff ! Lovely location and atmosphere. Food was authentic and very tasty, We had a wonderful time - a place to make memories !

Great food, outstanding wine and the manager was awesome. Thanks for making our anniversary a special one.
Bianca Brophy
Insanely amazing. Lost my mind here. Incredibly lovable staff, crazy food and the best night out I've had in a while.
Emily Sellars
We have been coming to Enoteca for years but we had a function in the Cellar on Sunday. The food was amazing as usual but the service and planning that went in to the event was outstanding. Everything went so smoothly from the videos being linked up to the projector to the staff not giving the surprise away to the birthday guest. I would highly recommend the cellar to anyone for a function or family gathering. Thank you Luca and the team for pulling off such a great event!
Kayla Gordon
Great place for my husband and I to celebrate our anniversary. The food is sensational and the wine list is extensive.

My partner and I had lunch at 1889 Enoteca and could not recommend it enough! From the outstanding service to delicious meals, everything was perfect. We had the Pane (daily baked bread and extra virgin olive oil) as an entree to share and for main meals we shared the Pappardelle (braised pork and beef, tomato sugo and parmigiana reggiano) and the truffle linguini. All meals were beyond any other pastas we have had. For desert we shared a pannacotta (burnt caramel) and a semifreddo and again all of it was delicious. To top it all off we ended with a latte. Without a doubt I would recommend having lunch or dinner at 1889 Enoteca.

Rare to get the family atmosphere with a sophisticated menu. That really is simple and tasty. <br/><br/>Eating home cooked pasta <br/>Eating delicate Mortenbay bugs. <br/>Eating delicious T bone. <br/><br/>I have had them all. Amazing!!!<br/><br/>The difference in having beautiful wines matched to the food. Is an added bonus. Especially when they are Italian favourites you would rarely get to try.
Absolutely Gr8
Great venue overall. Convenient parking at the front. Food was delicious. <br/><br/>Note that the portion size is more in line with a modern restaurant than Nonna’s oversized serves.
Sometimes A Critic
Awesome wine selection from Italy and really nice ambience. Service was tops as well
Sarah
By far the best gnocchi I've ever had!  I can't wait to come back and order the exact same thing.  Also - the zucchini flower was delicious too!
L P
Ambience is warm without being too stifling, and similarly the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone enjoyed their meals, and the gnocchi eaters were particularly impressed. My mushroom risotto was hearty and very tasty, although the texture and consistency wasn't perfect. We ordered a few desserts to share- they were indulgent without being too sweet. The chocolate tortino was very good. I'm maybe too hard on fine dining establishments, but to get the 5th star I want to be wowed, and it wasn't quite there for me. 4.5 stars.

Beautiful restaurant 🙂 Went here tonight for my birthday and had an absolutely lovely dinner. The staff were friendly and helpful, and so willing to accommodate a few changes to enable us to have a vegetarian set menu. The food was excellent and paired with wine for each course. Will definitely visit again, and would recommend 🙂

I surprised my partner for his birthday with a beautiful dinner at 1889 Enoteca. He was so excited I’d picked an Italian restaurant. We ordered classic mains (gnocchi & carbonara). The gnocchi was like no other. The flavours were so amazing and the gnocchi parcels were so light and fluffy. We were trying to show appropriate etiquette being in such a nice restaurant but couldn’t resist mopping up the leftover sauce off the plate. Absolutely recommend.
Bernie
Good service, impressive wine selection, beautiful decor and great food. Would highly recommend the bread, gnocchi and zucchini flowers! Probably the cities best gnocchi along side Botero House!
Matt D
Good service but that is where the good experience ended. Ordered three pasta dishes which where all inedible due to how salty they where. The chef said the dishes where meant to be salty due to the pork cheek. Will<br/>never go back. <br/><br/><br/>
Sarah Vera
This is a lovely Italian restaurant. The truffle gnocchi is a specialty and was delicious. The fish was ok. The zucchini flowers and mushrooms were so good. For dessert we enjoyed the tiramisu but not the bombolini.<br/>Great service as well. Looking forward to going back.
Highpitchit
Zucchini Flowers: Simply terrible. Quality. Execution. Price. Very old oil leaving the bad fish and chip taste in your mouth. If you find the need to remove the classic ricotta filling at least make it extraordinary. If you’re going to charge $24 for two zucchini flowers with no filling at least use some of the significant profit to replace the oil. The waitress could have rectified the issue but all we received was ‘oh sorry’.<br/><br/>Next the main. Veal Saltimbocca. Average not bad but nothing amazing and for the quality $30 would have sufficed not $42(?).<br/><br/>Disappointed because Enoteca used to be a fabulous restaurant but the high price of the food does not represent the quality or execution.
Lynne Ooi
My go-to place for authentic and delicious Italian food paired with amazing light Italian wine. They always service with a smile and the ambience is good too. I ALWAYS order the veal for starters and the gnocchi, carbonara & pepe are my regular orders. Can’t find anywhere else that does better pasta than this place in Brisbane. 😋
Fiona
Seriously amazing! The waiter was great and recommended dishes we should try and helped with a wonderful wine selection. This place isn't cheap but the food is well cooked and presented well. My only negative comment is the sand crab linguine was very salty, The rest was fantastic
Simon Tinkler
Italian food so good I may as well stop flying to Melbourne ... I correct myself ... Roman food.  The carbonara was the real thing, the saltimbocca also the real thing ... Viva Roma !

Enjoyed a busy Thursday night. This is a schmick operation. Great ambience and excellent staff.<br/>Affettati Misti was a wonderful way to start and we followed up with 4 different pastas...Gnocchi, paparadelle, linguine and carbonara. The gnocchi is deservedly famous. So light but beware the sauce is so rich. One guest religiously orders the sandcrab linguine. I can see why. All pasta is authentic and well made. Tiramisu to share and finish. Definitely a venue to delight  purists. Will absolutely return and try the Secondi next time.

This was my choice for a birthday dinner celebration & I'm glad I tried it. <br/>Good service and lovely drinks. <br/>The stand out meals were the Cacio e Pepper & entree field mushrooms; and the Gnocchi - these were all *divine*. The other meals were also nice, but my friend was a bit disappointed with her ragu after trying the gnocchi. <br/>Also has a beautiful interior. <br/>I plan to return at some stage.
Lucy Gabb
Service with attitude and poorly executed Italian would have received a rating of 2, nice atmosphere scrapes a 3.<br/>Thickly battered and doughy stuffed zucchini flowers, uninspired prawns and and overly salted and gluggy pasta. Seriously disappointing.<br/>
Jamison.porter
If it wasn’t for the food, this restaurant would be at least 8/10. Unfortunately, although my Gnocchi was delicious, the spaghetti carbonara we got tasted like vinegar. It was as if the food was off, and, to no surprise, it gave us food poisoning; leaving us to reside in the bathroom for the remainder of our anniversary.<br/>As a chef I am quite forgiving of these circumstances - however, when we asked to return our meal, we were told that “it’s authentic Italian, not like a normal carbonara, we don’t use cream.” The waiter must have thought that we just didn’t understand due to only being in our twenties and that the carbonara was supposed to taste like a 2 year old bottle of milk; as a couple who recently returned from Italy we can safely assume this meal had more wrong with it than the absence of cream. The waitress took our plates and we decided it was best not to stay as we were now sick and insulted.<br/>This is really unfortunate as the gnocchi was delicious and the food from the neighbouring tables looked great.<br/>We shall not be returning, but we hope you have a more pleasant experience than us.

The food here is amazing. I had the gnocchi and my wife had the pecorino cheese spaghetti. We also shared the Morton Bay bugs, also delicious. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was great. Staff were very attentive and I like how they made recommendations in regards to the menu. <br/>Will come back again.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do except in Brisbane!  On a recent trip down-under, instead of the usual steak and seafood joints that are often recommended, I was pointed in the direction of 1889 Enoteca, a Roman restaurant around the corner from Brisbane’s colosseum, the Gabba. Private Dining Room
Peruvian Palate
One of my fave Italian restaurants in Brisbane. They've managed to take the humble spud and turn it to gnocchi perfection. Just like my nonna's gnocchi...light and fluffy and cooked beautifully. The pork & fennel sausage, Parmesan cream and black truffle tepanade, ingredients that might seem heavy worked so well in the dish. Expect bold flavours. The setting is divine, very intimate and service was attentive. Their bread and olives were delicious too.

After returning from Italy earlier this year we've been seeking out an Italian restaurant in Brisbane that lives up to my now hyper-inflated expectations about Italian food!<br/><br/>Well, Sunday lunch at Enoteca definitely scratched the itch.<br/><br/>I'm not always a fan of gnocchi but when it is prepared like this I could eat it daily - amazing.<br/>Also, the Cacio e Pepe is a go-to dish here for good reason.<br/><br/>Favourites of the couple of Secondi we tried was the Saltimbocca. The Pesce and Tagliata were also delicious.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and very helpful.<br/><br/>I will be back. <br/>Buon appetito!

Find 1889 along a great little street in Woollongabba.. as you arrive you will be greeted by friendly staff. The food is delicious, the gnocchi their signature and couldn't recommend more highly. My favourite gnocchi dish. The oysters were prepared nicely as well. Great selection of international wines.

Decided to visit 1889 Enoteca the other night after reading a number of positive reviews. It did not disappoint with all three courses being excellent. As many people mentioned, the gnocchi is the standout dish and is a must for anyone planning a visit. The service was efficient and the staff were very accommodating of my nut allergy. Despite going on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was still quite busy and I would recommend booking a table for whatever day you plan to visit. Overall, it was a lovely experience and we are already eager to try more dishes from the menu!

1889 Enoteca is the best place for enjoying Italian wine 💕all the wines are from Italy. <br/><br/>We had two pastas which were good and the staff recommended a wine to us, which tasted really good. <br/><br/><br/>The atmosphere was great and the staffs were soooooo nice. Grazie! We will be back 🎼

I held a function in the cellar downstairs which has a great vibe.<br/>Very tasty food, will definitely head back next time I'm in Brisbane.<br/>The staff were very attentive and accommodating where possible.<br/>

This place continues to be authentically stunning. Great wine, great food and discreet service. Always a winner in my books. Food has never disappointed.

I've been to 1889 Enoteca dozens of times over the past five years, including twice in the past fortnight.<br/><br/>The Pappardelle Al Ragu is the standard by which I judge all pasta in Australia - perfection (5 out of 5).<br/><br/>The Cacio e Pepe is so simple, yet so delicious. I generally start with this as my entree and then move onto the Pappardelle Al Ragu as my main. My only complaint is that I always want more!<br/><br/>I dined with a distinguished guest last night, one who grew up on the border of Italy and is a connoisseur of Italian cuisine, and he assures me that the Vitello Tonnato is the best he has ever had. He has enjoyed this dish at 1889 Enoteca for years and orders it each and every time we dine together.<br/><br/>The Spaghetti Carbonara is fairly new to the menu and is a rich and delicious addition. Lady Meatball<br/>and my distinguished guest both rate it highly.<br/><br/>The Pork & Fennell Sausage Gnocchi remains Grandpa Meatball's favourite.<br/><br/>I can't recommend 1889 Enoteca highly enough.<br/><br/><br/>******<br/>August 2016<br/><br/>Highly recommend!<br/>I love Italian food and make it my mission to search out and try every top rated Italian restaurant wherever I am and can honestly say that 1889 Enotecca is the best Italian in Brisbane (and possibly Australia...sorry, Melbourne). Amazing food and an extensive wine list, this has become my favorite restaurant in Brisbane.<br/><br/>I've been dozens of times over the past few years, including hosting team lunches, corporate dinners and a Christmas party for 30+ downstairs.<br/><br/>The Pappardelle Al Ragu is my favorite and definitely worth writing home about! The spaghette cacio e pepe is so simple, yet so perfect.  The gnocchi and risotto are both fantastic as well.

While traveling recently to NY, 1889 was the talk of the town once I mentioned I lived in Brisbane. Not being an Italian food fan it hadn't really been on my radar but I got the feedback that it was a must try. The set up is quite beautiful, the service was attentive and happy to please and the food was good. Would I be back? Probably not due to Italian being one of my least favorite cuisines, would I recommend it to others? Absolutely
Brad
If you are into Italian food then this place is a must. I loved every bit of our experience at Enoteca. From the confirmation phone call the morning before to the amazing gnocci and beautiful wines, this place will knock your socks off. <br/><br/>We had a table for 5ppl and we were sat on a round table in the front gallery with plenty of room and a nice big table so it didnt become cluttered. Our host was an italian girl with a very happy attitude and made us all feel as though nothing was an issue. <br/><br/>Our food and drinks were promptly delivered with ample time in between courses to rest and enjoy the meal. We ordered breads with olive oil and balsamic vinegar along with the veal and tuna mayo, gnocci entrée and rigatoni. The mains followed with 2 rib on the bones that melted in your mouth, a gnocci main (mine) that was perfectly seasoned, a fruity salad and a parpadelle ragu. I couldnt fault any of it. <br/><br/>In the end with drinks, starters, mains and desserts the bill for the 5 of us was $465 which i thought was very reasonable considering the quality of the establishment and its food.<br/><br/>Simple things go a long way for me and this place just gets it. Attentive but not annoying staff, constantly topping up your water, room to move not shoved in like other places, knowledge of food and wine from wait staff, easy parking and simple but amazing food. If i could give a 6 I would. Looking.forward to my next experience at Enoteca.

Was very excited to dine at this restaurant as I have heard many great things about it. We were part of a big group function on a wednesday night and we were told beforehand it would be $85 per person for a sit down 3 course dinner which I thought was reasonable for a big group. One friend required a vegan option for her meals. <br/><br/>First problem was that when we arrived, we were told that it was not really a 3 course dinner. All the meals (except dessert) was to be "shared". We received anti pasti as a starter and from this we gathered that each plate of food was to be shared between FOUR people. The night progressively got worse. <br/><br/>Cons: <br/>- For entrees we received one plate of risotto and one plate of gnocchi to share between four people. Before we were even halfway through our gnocchi, one of the waitresses took the plate saying something about the table at the end not having enough. She didn't even ask us or let us know what exactly was going on. She just took our half finished plate of delicious gnocchi and gave it to a different group of four. From the start it was obvious the waitstaff were having difficulty figuring out where each plate goes and because of this we did not get our full serving of entrees. This happened AGAIN with the side of green beans that came with the mains.<br/><br/>- Our vegan friend's meals were ridiculous. Her main was eggplant and it was drowned in oil she could barely eat it. Her dessert was literally just fruit. And she still had to pay $85. <br/><br/>- Pork belly and steak for mains were dry and tough. Tiramisu dessert was sickeningly sweet and overdone with chocolate. <br/><br/>- Waited an hour between courses. <br/><br/>- It began storming during our dinner and water began seeping between the brick walls. Soon the floor was covered in water and my shoes got completely soaked. We repeatedly asked the staff if they could mop up the water as everyone was sitting awkwardly to try and avoid getting wet. The water was never mopped up. <br/><br/>- Three people wanted to share a bottle of wine and was offered a tasting for a $59 bottle. Later when we received the bill, turns out they charged  $10 PER TASTING. RIDICULOUS!! What restaurant charges that much for a tasting of a $59 wine??? We complained and the staff member told us it was an "accident". More like they were trying to rip us off! <br/><br/><br/>Pros: <br/>- atmosphere of the function/large group dining room was nice and intimate. <br/>- gnocchi (from the entree course) was delicious. <br/><br/>Such a disappointing first time experience at this restaurant. We had booked atleast a month in advance and nothing seemed properly organised and a lot of things went wrong. $85 per person is a ridiculous price to pay for this kind of experience.

Loved every course we had. The cacio e pepe was absolutely delicious, as was the panna cotta. Even the bread was amazing - super soft house made ciabatta with the perfect crust. Great service too :)

Rude staff, waiters and waitresses who do not write down your orders and then either serve you the wrong dish and then argue about their stuff-up or just forget the order altogether. Price point suggests that they believe that dining at this establishment is an upmarket experience, but this is not the case. Food is nice enough, not brilliant, but ok. Gnocchi is the pick of the bunch for me but serving size is on the conservative side. Tiramisu lacks depth of flavour, there is no detectable hint of any alcohol, let alone Marsala. Ambience is good and management seem nice. We have visited Italian restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and all over Brisbane, the best being Da' Angelos in Hobart.1889 Enoteca, in my opinion is middle of the road as far as a dining experience is concerned, but would be exceptional if they WRITE DOWN THE ITEMS ORDERED AND THEN REPEAT THE ORDER BACK TO THE PATRONS SO THERE ARE NO ERRORS IN THE ORDERING PROCESS and if the wait staff do make an error WAIT STAFF SHOULD NOT STAND AT THE TABLE AND ARGUE LOUDLY THAT THE PATRON HAS MADE THE MISTAKE. I have dined here twice with three menu items ordered not arriving on our first visit and we encountered the insulting waitress on our second visit. I would suggest that others look around and you will  find a better Italian dining experience not much further afield.

I'm so glad they turned this Woollongabba strip into a trendy precinct for dining and nightowl adventures. This was our first experience at Enoteca and it was wonderful. Such a great vibe with European aesthetics and attentive expert staff. We enjoyed most of our menu selections and indulged in an assortment of desserts. The salted caramel pannacotta was a real standout and the chocolate salami was also lovely albeit quite rich. The softshell crab entree was yummy but quite salty whereas the pastas we had for our mains were really under-seasoned with the veal ragu registering as pretty bland, unfortunately. With no optional seasoning at the tables, this was hard to adjust but we soldiered on and enjoyed ourselves anyway. Even amazing chefs have an off-night sometimes. There's plenty to like about this place and I'll be sure to return for another dose of modern Italiano cuisine. Great atmosphere, awesome wine list and excellent service. Might try a few other menu items next time and I'm sure they'll be delicious.

A flying trip to Brisbane and I'm sitting at 1889 Enoteca again. Why? Because it is one of Brisbane's best wine bars and Italian restaurants.  The staff are terrific and enthusiastic about their establishment, you can hear it in their voice when they are explaining the wine list and menu.  The food it always great , reasonably priced and generous in portion. If you ever get to go downstairs, take a sneaky peek at their private dining area ... wow.  Great service, great atmosphere - why are you not there now?

We had our wedding dinner at Enoteca and it was perfect - for a beautiful, intimate setting with the best food you couldn't do better. The La Famiglia Taviola was a great option for us (big share plates, four courses). We dined back there recently and the atmosphere is perfect. And that gnocchi has been their best seller for however many years for a reason - literally the tastiest thing I think I've ever eaten. Staff are helpful and friendly, wine is beautiful - love everything about Enoteca :)

After alot of research & reading reviews about 1889 Enotecca for my Italian sister from another nona!! Our dishes were devine tonight being our first time not the last!! Absolutely bellissimo!!

Amazing food and service, my favorite Italian restaurant ever! The gnocchi is absolutely amazing as well as the panacotta. Pick any meal on the menu you can't go wrong!
Slick Chef Extraordinaire. Gangster Of Food.
Enoteca has been a long time Gabba favourite of mine. Wonderful food and service everytime with fantastic wines to match. Definitely a stand out among the many Italian restaurants in Brisbane.

Had a lovely dinner - the zucchini flower entree is my favorite. The wine list here is absolutely incredible, it's impossible to choose. Will be back!

Great food - clean and fresh Italian fare - brilliant service - great location and presentation. Good wine selection supported by knowledgeable service. This restaurant has a great feel to it and it's food meets all expectations. Good to see Brisbane stepping up.

We had yet another fabulous night out prior to Christmas at Enotecca. This is and has been for a long time, my favorite restaurant in Brisbane! The food is amazing, try the zucchini flowers and gamberi fettuccini, incredible, so good I can't move on and try other dishes. The service is outstanding, whoever hires knows what they are doing, friendly, knowledgeable and charming staff. The wine list is a little awe inspiring, until the delightful staff guide you through it and help you select the right wine. The atmosphere of the restaurant hums, not too noisy, not too quiet. I hope this place will be around for many years to come as I can't imagine going anywhere else with a group of friends for special occasions or any occasion really.
Mitchell.kingston
Certainly one of the best Italian restaurants in Brisbane, great traditional atmosphere, fantastic bread and the pork and fennel gnocchi with black truffle is a truly amazing meal. The wine selection is also of the highest quality.

Had a wonderful experience at this beautiful restaurant. Felt very welcome as soon as we entered. Service was great and the food was delicious. Our table all had the pastas and they didn't disappoint. Highly recommended I will definitely be returning!
Albino Diner
Been once, and can't wait to go back - the food was perfect, like being back in Rome. The service so friendly, professional and efficient and love siting in the "wine room" part of the business. <br/>Will have more to say after a few more trips but was REALLY impressed

1889 Enoteca has been long on my list of places to go. The only reason why I have not yet been was because there were no special events for me to justify going. With a friend achieving a significant milestone, we decided to go there for dinner last Saturday. It was really lucky we made a reservation that evening, as the place was completely packed.

Reason no pictures are uploaded. Are u guys serious! I had a gnocchi-gasm. Attentive service, matched the wine. Food was unreal. Worth every cent. Congratulations on being awesome.

We had such a wonderful lunch here. Fantastic variety of Italian wine, delicious food and good friendly waiters/ waitresses. The decor and setting of the restuarant also adds to the sophisticated (but not pretentious) ambience. Yes it is pricey but it's worth it!

What a lovely, sophisticated atmosphere 1889 Enoteca has! The staff were so attentive & appeared to be very genuine in their need for us to be happy. Our dessert took quite some time to come out, we didn't really mind but when staff realised, they could not apologize enough. They offered dessert as complimentary along with beautiful dessert wine! We thought that was excellent service. It is a small menu but what we did have was delicious. All in all a fabulous dining experience.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Enoteca and had an excellent time. I like the fact that you get a special/fine dining-like experience that's still very friendly and welcoming and not stuffy. The wait staff were all lovely - knowledgable and helpful (making recommendations about wine and the meals). We ordered the fried artichoke and the steak to share which were amazing (and a perfect homage to a meal we had in Rome on our honeymoon). The steak had a delicious salty crust and was melt in your mouth - still thinking about it now. The choc tart for dessert was very nice Altho not overly memorable. The service was leisurely (was at capacity) but seemed paced about right (plenty of people checking we were ok in between). We weren't waiting around for an annoyingly long time to order or settle the bill which are my pet peeves. It's not cheap but the overall bill wasn't outrageous and we thought appropriate for the quality of the experience and food. Looking forward to going back again!
Hilary
We had the mushroom risotto and gnocchi. The gnocchi is a must!! We were overwhelmed by the wine list but luckily our waiter was more than happy to pair our meals with wines which we were very happy with. Service was attentive but not overbearing. If you want great Italian food this place is a must.

Have been to this restaurant twice - would have to be one of my favourite in Brisbane.  Most authentic italian I have tried outside of Sydney and Melbourne.  Service and atmosphere are amazing.

Absolutely THE best tiramisu I've ever had. It's definitely worth a visit just to try it! Service was amazing too.<br/><br/>My partner ordered the osso bucco - he loved every bit of the dish!<br/><br/>Only downside was the cooking of my pasta. It was just under - there was a thin strip of white, uncooked flour in the centre of my pasta. And to be honest, I expected them to be using fresh pasta given the prices I had to pay.
Ronnielui2003
This restaurant is locating within the Logan Road food precinct of Woolloogabba. No wonder this Italian restaurant is the top 10 in Brisbane. Their food really stand ut the Italian taste. I love the recommended spaghetti and the Zucchini Flower. The signature Tiramisu is flawless. Service is attentive and friendly. Ambient with aesthetic decor. Overall, it was a happy and impressive dining expereince.

For me Ortiga's upstairs bar is a quintessential Brisbane Friday night experience, take your favourite person, add a delicious glass(es) of wine and graze the bar menu at your leisure as you get cosy for the night. I totally recommend snacking on Char-grilled chistorra – whole artisan Basque country pork sausage while quaffing the divine ‘Orobio’ by Artadi Tempranillo. Also a trip to Ortiga is made worthwhile by sampling the lovely cured meats and Jamon.

A stunning experience in food and service. I took my wife to 1889 Enoteca for her birthday. There had been some reviews that service was not so good but the food was. <br/><br/>Our experience was phenomenal. The staff were very attentive, knowledgeable about the food and wine, and very friendly. <br/><br/>My one criticism is that on the menu several dishes contained pork. As I don't like pork, that limited my selection more than most menus would. <br/><br/>I had the salmon and it was exceptionally good. There were couples sitting to either side of us and they both commented how good their meals were. <br/><br/>I will come back to this beautiful and friendly restaurant and will recommend it as well.

Good food, poor service. Good food, terrible service on the night my two friends went for a special dinner. They were put in a corner and basically forgotten. 20 mins for someone to bring menus and take drink orders, then forever to come back and take meal orders. Happily they weren't in a rush and took it in their stride, but not good enough for a restaurant of this (supposed) calibre.

Fabulous Food. Had a great evening with friends, the food was delicious and fresh and portion sizes were just right. The service was outstanding enough could not be done. I would say Enoteca is the best Italian Restaurant I have eaten at in Brisbane and I look forward to going back.

Disappointing service. Last August we celebrated our wedding anniversary here and had a faultless and very enjoyable experience. So for my 60th it was our first choice especially as the gnocchi are to die for. Our experience last night was far from satisfactory. The waiter said he would be back in a second to take our drinks order and didn't return to our table for about 15 minutes. Eventually the wine arrived and it was delicious. The starter arrived about 30 mins after we had ordered. Call me old fashioned or picky but I think waiting almost an hour for the main to be served, especially after waiting ages for the plates to be cleared after our first course, is not acceptable in any quality restaurant particularly when people who arrived and ordered after us on the next table received their meals well before us. When I asked when we were going to be receiving our meals I was told it would be soon. The manager came over to apologise but would not accept that we had been waiting almost an hour. Company was great but I was very disappointed overall especially as we had gone there to celebrate my birthday. The waiter banged the wine bottle on wine glasses several times without asking if we actually wanted 'topping up' and my plate of food just about ended up in my face as the waitress leant across to put down my husbands plate first. They did knock $20 off the bill but it didn't make up for the generally poor quality of service which did affect our enjoyment of the evening - I won't be going back again.

My Favourite Restaurant in Brisbane. Have eaten here many times before. Still remains my go to place for any special occasion or celebration. They beef and pork ragu is still the best pasta dish I have eaten at a restaurant. Every time I leave Enoteca I am happy and full. Still yet to have a better dining experience in Brisbane.

Best food ever. Amazing food the best Italian food ever! I was very impressed with the service as well .

Emoteca Great Night excellent. From our arrival although staggered due to heavy rain , we sat at the bar for drinks, the staff most welcoming and friendly while efficient.<br/>Because of our large group. Of 8 was to be 10. We shared the cellar with another group.<br/>The food was excellent and guided by the waiter started with a selection of Anti pasta. Of the highest quality. Not the usual small servings but but plentiful . The olives. Magnificent.<br/>A number had entrees ,mains and dessert. All stated their meals of highest quality. I had the veal entree excellent, with veal main , unfortunately I had eaten more then enough with anti pasta and entree . The veal main was again exellent . I didn't have dessert but those that did all had favourable comments.<br/>The selection of drinks was of the highest quality . I sampled a variety of Italian beers ,these were all very good. I was happy not to have to drink craft craft beers .<br/>The wines are a high light and the whiskey choice excellent .<br/>Only criticism drink service slow but this was understandable with the busyness of the night ( close to the Gabba 2nd day of Test )<br/>I am in hospitality I rate this resturant highly . Have a drink at the bar as wel as dinner

Enoteca. A great place to have a quiet drink, a small get together or a catch up with friends.<br/><br/>Great food, great staff, great atmosphere.

Terrible service, terrible food, don't bother....... So generally I don't write negative reviews on Urbanspoon as I normally let the restaurant know directly as I think this is much fairer. In this instance I did take the time to write a very long and detailed email to the restaurant after my terrible experience with them however to date I have never received a reply. It seems that the bad customer service just keeps on keeping on at Enoteca. I have included my email below for your consideration -<br/><br/>To Whom it May Concern,<br/><br/>My partner and I had lunch at your establishment on Sunday and were looking forward to outstanding food and service. Unfortunately we left extremely disappointed and feeling very let down by the experience Enoteca provided. <br/><br/>Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and then seated at one of your booths as requested. We were promptly given menus and offered water. <br/><br/>We were then asked if we would like to order entrees which we did. We were still looking at your wine list but no suggestions or help were made nor was a pre lunch drink offered.<br/><br/>We then had to wait for your food runner to arrive with bread as we were unable to flag down any other staff before we were able to order a very nice bottle of your soave. <br/><br/>Our entree of Vegetariano misto and stuffed zucchini flowers were then presented to the table. The vegetariano misto was extremely disappointing, large fried cubes of under seasoned polenta, thick slices of fried fennel that was oily, tasteless and with absolutely no seasoning and 2 tiny raddicho leaves (not witlof) with a tiny squeeze of gorgonzola cream and a bit of walnut and the balsamic onions. This dish looked extremely unappealing and tasted very uninspired. At a restaurant of this calibre I was so surprised to see ingredients treated with such little love and respect. I was waiting to be blown away by the quality and presentation of your food and yet I have never been so underwhelmed. <br/><br/>When asked by the waiter if we were enjoying our meal we unfortunately had to express our dissatisfaction. To his credit he was very apologetic, however when my partner asked if this type of feedback was out of the ordinary for this dish he said he did not know and followed this by saying that he guessed the quality of the dish was dependant on what type of mood the chef was in. He then replaced the misto with a selection of cured meats and took the cost of the misto off the bill which was a lovely gesture.<br/><br/>We then ordered the spaghetti with pecorino and black pepper and zuppa di pesce to share for mains. I love this simple spaghetti dish and have had it many times in some of my favourite restaurants in Sydney. When this dish arrived at the table it was perfectly cooked spaghetti with a very unfortunate grainy and dull bechamel sauce. The flour had not been cooked out of the sauce and rendered the spaghetti clumpy and gluggy. Very unappetising. The zuppa was lovely but by this stage we were well and truly disappointed by our experience at Enoteca.<br/><br/>When asked if we were enjoying our mains we could not find it in ourselves to complain any further. We were embarrassed to have to complain again at a restaurant with such a great reputation and standard. <br/><br/>Although we did not express our displeasure we certainly would not return and unfortunately could not recommend Enoteca to our friends as a great dining experience. <br/><br/>We decided against dessert and waited for the bill to arrive and waited and waited, We finally went up to the register to pay. The waiter kindly pointed out to us that he had given us a "$60 discount" for the uneaten vegetariano misto and the subsequent cured meat selection it was replaced with. I did not feel that this was an appropriate way to farewell guests nor would I call it exceptional customer service. <br/><br/>Overall we both left feeling that what was meant to be a special lunch was probably one of the most underwhelming dining experiences we have had in a long time. <br/><br/>Yours Sincerely,
Tgarthe
Good Service & Wine. Wine and service was amazing as was the gnocchi. Rest was good, but expected more for the price.<br/><br/>Nice as a one off but better to be had in Brisbane.

Textbook Italian. From start to finish dish after dish of well constructed flavourful food. Finished with great wine. They are the whole package.

After attending several work functions in the downstairs section, I was not enthused to return when my partner was recommended by a colleague as a great restaurant to celebrate his birthday. I'm so happy we gave it another try! I have to say my truffle gnocchi dish was one of the best pastas I have ever eaten. I wouldn't usually chose pasta, but when in Italy it must be done. I recommend this as a great special occasion night spot, as the drink/dinner menu is quite expensive. I think with the high prices you are also paying for the outstanding service. I will consider running another work function here now in the future, but with the requirement of the pasta dishes as the mains (rather then the common/less-exciting choices).

Service & Food Absolutely Impeccable!. Glasses were constantly refilled with water/wine. Waiters were concise and courteous without going over the top. They did run out of the chosen wine however offered a substitute at the same price. The food was impeccable. Group of 5, we had most of what was on the menu and nobody could fault it. The price? Agreed it's not the cheapest, however you know the quality of the food by how much it fills you up, and many were deciding if dessert was necessary given the quality of the food. You get what you pay for. Will definitely be back.

Just average. Food was good but not for the price. I also found the service to be a bit pretentious.

Great Italian restaurant. Came highly recommended from friends to go here and the food was sensational. The Veal and tuna mayo with capers entree was amazing!!! Also the Gnocchi was beautiful. All Italian wines on the menu and had a great recommendation from our waiter. Service was excellent. We'll be back!!!

Delicious food, excellent service, great atmosphere.. The title to this review says it all. We sat outside and enjoyed a Spring evening in Brisbane with great food. I'll be back.
Christy
Service was amazing, food was "delicious!!" and they had authentic italian beer that we have been asking for at all other Italian restaurants in Brisbane and the Gold Coast for the past 3 years, yay, finally a proper Italian restaurant. Bit pricey, but worth the whole experience!!
David Hanlin
Service service service!!! Do you people know what that is. We had dinner with 6 people on sat night and the service was so so so slow, meals came out warm not hot and different times clearly under the pump in the kitchen. Great place food is good but service very slow

Couldn't fault a thing. Went here as a party of four for a casual celebration - what a fantastic evening. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, recommending great wine when our pick was unavailable, pointing us in the way of choice dishes on the menu, always smiling. The food was super tasty, with intelligent flavour selections the order of the day (the artichoke and mascarpone with citrus was a standout). The atmosphere, meanwhile, was fine-casual, with great conversation had beneath the wine racks all night.
Casper
Wonderful Italian food at this polished establishment. Super friendly service from the wait staff who know their menu items. The flavours were truly Italian from the terrific roasted artichoke entre through to the Pappadelle ragu just to name a couple.<br/><br/>Extremely nice ambiance about the restaurant and we look forward to returning another time.

CraigD. Food mediocre at best and the service to match. Having waited 15-20minutes after our scheduled booking to be seated, it then became apparent we were in for a long wait for our meals. Wait staff repeatedly ignored our group and served multiple courses to tables around us,many items listed on the menu were not available and the choice of beers was questionable at best. Having finally arrived the meals i might add left a lot to be desired. All in all it was not a great experience, I will not be returning nor shall I recommend others.

Poor value for money. I agree with the general sentiment of some of the other reviews on this website. We booked 2 weeks ahead for a large group (a special occasion) for the 8:30pm Saturday night sitting. We were initially seated around 15-20 minutes late (not a huge problem) only to discover:<br/><br/>a) The bar will only make cocktails on their list (apparently a Black Russian and a Martini were a bit too difficult, and they had run out of Chambord)<br/>b) Their star pasta (recommended by their waiter 5 minutes earlier) was out of stock and needed to be substituted<br/>c) They did not have two of the wines on their 'by the glass' wine list in stock.<br/><br/>Laughing at this slight comedy of errors, we placed our order just after 9pm. We watched other tables get served, then served dessert, then paying their bill and leaving, all of this time given no update as to what was happening with our own meals (the wait staff were actively ignoring us). We were finally served after some stern words at 10:45pm (and after twice being promised it was 'only three minutes away'). Decided not to order dessert because by then it was almost midnight and we didn't fancy being there until 2am the next morning waiting. I am not normally a complainer (this is my first Urbanspoon review) but I did go up to the manager and complain about the service. He was very apologetic but not particularly helpful, finally offering to give a gift voucher as a resolution, which we accepted.<br/><br/>Was the food alright? Sure, it was satisfactory. Not amazing, but it made the grade. Would I pay $36 for pasta with service that reminds me of some choice airlines I would never choose to fly with again? Probably not. I'm afraid you pay the $36 for the dining experience, not just the food, and no food is worth a 90+ minute wait.

Shocking!. I have been dining out in Brisbane for my whole life and complained once before this time. I really hate to do it but I feel that fellow diners should be warned. I had booked a table and had to wait outside in the cold for nearly half an hour to be seated. We were finally seated and given menus then three drinks orders were taken leaving the rest of the table ignored. When the three drinks came out one at a time we asked the waiter if we could order food and the rest of the drinks. We then waited about an hour and fifteen minutes for our food with no explanation as to what was happening and no one bothered to see if we wanted anymore drinks. The meals were fine and we were really hungry, probably not worth $40-50. However the final stab in the back was when we complained to the manager who gave us attitude and even had the audacity to say "You're not the only people who have complained to me tonight". That's your defense? That if its terrible for us it's fine because it's terrible for everyone? That was the one moment that had to save themselves but unfortunately as the manager was unable to convey any regret or sympathy to the situation and still charge us full menu prices we will not be returning and encouraging others not to dine here either.

One of my worst dining experiences in Australia.. This has to be the most overrated restaurant in Brisbane. I have been to Most of the mid and higher end eating places on urbanspoon Brisbane and this one takes the cake for sub-par experiences.<br/>Went to 1889 on what i would call an average paced night as there were still several tables available around us. After being seated the waiter gave us menus and then did not return. After 15 minutes i had to ask a different waitress to take our orders which she did. My partner and I weren't overly hungry and so went straight to the mains and some wine. I really felt like a steak which I do not normally order when eating at an Italian restaurant but figured a restaurant like this would have it under control.<br/>After 30 minutes our food came out. We were not offered pepper and i was given a butter knife for my steak. The plates were sat in front of us and the waiter did not return. My meal was stone cold and had clearly been sitting for 10+minutes, and my partners pasta was luke warm.<br/>My partners meal was average at best and mine was inedible. I asked for a rare steak but was given would could only be described as very well done. The butter knife could not cut through the steak it was so tough. I tried my hardest to eat several bites but thought I would get a more tender bite out of my leather shoes. I was forced to do something which I have never done before while eating out and that is complain about the meal. After flagging the attention of the disinterested help staff I demonstrated to him that my butter knife could not physically cut through the piece of rubber on my plate. He apologized and offered to take it back but at this stage it was over an hour since entering the restaurant and I just wanted out. <br/>We left the meals uneaten, paid our bill and left.<br/><br/>I have honestly received better food and service from Grill'd.<br/>If you want Italian do yourself a favor and go to Bucci, Beccofino or La Via.

Beautiful Roman dinner. Finnaly got a table for our anniversary! We had real Roman dinner which includes entree, pasta, main and desert! It was amazing! Especially pasta. We ordered each one of them. I had zuccini flower, pecorino romano that so cheesy, beautiful home made pasta. I was so full after this pasta then continue to main. It was crispy skin and nice fluffy meat of barramundi. Tiramisu was just perfect! My partner also had great experience. One thing, I wish we had a table inside so we booked for.
Maxwell_85
I agree with below - Close but just not quite. Vibe was nice, would happily date the waitress but the food just didn't meet my expectations or the price of the bill. My entre was better then my main easily. Maybe the food was too Italian. I wanted my pasta to be next level but I felt very capable of replicating my meal at home given it clearly only had 3 ingredients.

Absolutely fantastic! Would highly recommend this gem! Tried it out due to reading great reviews, and it did not disappoint. Excellent service, great wine and delicious food! Entee's, mains and dessert were all faultless. Great ambience and not too noisy either. Will definitely re visit.

Average. My partner and I recently dined at Enoteca on a Saturday evening. Having been before, I was excited for our dinner, however it failed to meet expectations. We ordered the multi-course Roman menu and a fairly decent bottle of wine. The first course of cold meats and fried zucchini flowers took approx. 45 minutes to arrive, the last dish arrived close to 11pm and the staff waiting on us kept switching throughout the evening, resulting in a very disjointed service as a full set of cutlery was laid out, removed (even the sets we hadn’t used), laid out, removed and laid out again. The waitress seemed to have no idea what was going on and kept bringing us menus and then taking them away unnecessarily, and the table next to us was uncomfortable close. The food was fine for the most part, and we were given a discount on the bottle of wine, but when you’re paying upwards of $400 for a dinner, I’d expect the service to run a little faster and the food to come out quicker.

Salt Fest. I first visited 1889 Enoteca for my partners birthday in approximately 2012, I was throughly impressed and therefore when my Italian friend asked me to suggest a fine dining Italian restaurant for her mothers birthday I immediately suggested 1889 Enoteca. Unfortunately, I was left throughly embarrassed. <br/>Before we had even taken our seats we were questioned about entree's and whether we wanted sparkling or tap water, in the confusion with working out seats and getting settled, our group just said yes, yes, yes to everything. Before we know it, a platter of meats and vegetables arrives at our table at a price tag of $15 per person, per platter! Along with additional bread and olives - olives were included in the vegetable platter! While the meat and vegetables were reasonably tasty, I would not hurry back for a couple of slices of meat and 4 slices of antipasto vegetables. At that price, for the small portion I expect the food to blow my mind, unfortunately, I was left wanting more. <br/>When it was time for our mains two meals arrived 15 minutes before any other mains arrived. There were only 8 of us and it was a quiet weeknight, so to align meals should not really be particularly difficult. Every one of us was disappointed in the mains. They were all extremely salty, so much so, we all ended up sculling down water like we had been parched in the desert for months!<br/>I couldn't tell you much else about the meal apart from that if you like salt, and you like throwing money away for the pretence of "fine dining", you will like 1889 Enoteca. <br/>Throughly disappointed and will definitely not be back. Everyone at the table was very disappointed and the entire meal for 8 people ended up costing over $650. No one would have minded the price tag if the meal was worth the money, unfortunately you don't always get what you pay for.

Hello, I had recently taken my grandmother for her birthday to this restaurant. To my disgust we were not given the full restaurants menu on a piece of paper! The lady that served up had already put down everything that was available on our table (which added up to 120 dollars) which we did not ask for this. She did not even provide the option if we would like 9 dollar water served to us but again this was done without our knowledge. When ordering, she would take half our tables then go off to serve someone else then come back to serve the rest of our table (without even advising this). When receiving our meal, the fish was not cooked (pink in the middle), the squid was chewy, and all other main meals were extremely salty. I was disgusted with the poor service and quality of the food.

Lovely!!!! Absolutely the best Italian in Brisbane - and lovely staff :) we have been coming for years and it's our favourite restaurant - never disappointed!

I always judge the quality of an Italian restaurant by the gnocchi they serve and this restaurant did not let me down! Food was amazing and our waiter Sam went above and beyond expectations

Excellent meal, fantastic service :)

Didn't even get seated but will not be back. Droped in for a lunch today and I was greeted ok and I asked for a table which seamed to be ok until I told the waiter that my wife and I had a stroller. Then I was quickly told they were book out and he might have something in 45 mins. I gave my phone number for him to call me when the table was free. Our boy was asleep in the stroller so we decided to relax and eat next door at the Thai restaurant. I decided to ring 1889 Enoteca 5 mins after sitting down at the Thai restaurant to requested a table for lunch and was told that they could fit me straight away. I thought this idea of sending people away with young children went out years ago as we eat out a 2-3 times a week and never struck this before. Maybe they think they are to hip for young family's but as a good friend of mine who owns a good restaurant said to me, "the children are the ones that will be coming to eat here in another decade or so". Surprise surprise, I haven't received the call yet to let me know my table is free...

Disappointing. Had wanted to try 1889 Enoteca for years and last night we went as a group of four. The entrees, mussels and zucchini flowers were great but the mains were disappointing. I had fish of the day, which was dry, could not find the capers, the parsley and anchovy salsa tasted only of parsley and the radicchio was so bitter it was inedible. My partner had the lamb which was over cooked and dry. The mains eaten by our friends, being the veal and a pasta dish were good. A mixed outcome, but with erratic service and overpriced wine, I doubt we will be back.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. So so disappointed by the service tonight. The food and wine was fantastic as per usual , but dreadful service.
