Review Moda - Brisbane

The Barracks is such a lovely little shopping centre to visit. There's such an array of restaurants to choose from, a Coles, florist and a few other shops. Love how B105 is here too! Free parking for 3 hours I think 😊

Very nice restaurant. The food was really delicious 😋 and cocktails were yummy. Service was fantastic and people were very friendly. If you've never tried Latino food, go here and you won't be disappointed.

Always well maintained. A decent sized complex, with mostly a Coles, chemist, a palace cinemas, and some restaurants. Only fault I have, is its not the nicest place to visit in wet weather, as it does tend to get quite wet, due to the decorative roofing not being the most water resistant enclosure. But it's a nice place if you're a local to do a bit of shopping, perhaps catch a movie, or go out for dinner. No real complaints. 5*

Excellent place to be. Coles, a cinema chemist, nail and beauty salons , great restaurants all in or right next to the complex. Saw train tracks but not sure if there is a station. Most likely there is one. There is a car park too
Danh Tran
Fresh food and reasonably priced would come back again
Jacqueline Akerman
Here you have a nice selection of restaurants for different budgets and shops including a pharmacy and Coles. There is free parking for the first 3 hours, but I advise avoiding this shopping on game days, as many people going to the stadium leave their cars there.
Conor O'Shea
It's a convenient location, but I find it incredibly annoying that almost every time I eat and go to the cinema that, I also have to pay for parking? It always feels like getting a penalty for being a better customer? Because I had time on my last visit, I walked 1 hour from West End so that I wouldn't suffer this ick feeling.
JAMES WUST (Wust Plasta Patch & Paint)
Great place to shop. Has everything 👍😁 love that it has 2 hours of free parking. But it's $60 flat rate on game nights at the stadium.

I’ve been to Moda once before and thought it’d be a good option for Father’s Day lunch. It was a set menu with tapas to start with and then the meat and paella for the main dishes. Everything was fresh and delicious with a range of different flavours. The pork cheek main was definitely my favourite. The meat melted in my mouth and had such a good flavour. They bought out a tray of desserts which you can choose from but I decided on getting the tasting of dessert which came with a coffee. All of them were really good but my fave was the lemon meringue tart. The service was fast and efficient, food came out promptly and the decor is very nice. Would recommend for a date lunch/dinner or a special occasion.

Food was excellent and it was complemented with thoughtful plating and presentation. Thumbs up to the Head Chef and the kitchen team. <br/><br/>Service was a letdown. More so because it was overbearing. Too eager to up-sell and it left me feeling like a money spinner. <br/><br/>Management may feel “we are efficient and caring” but I can’t shake off the feeling that I’ve been monitored all the time - after every last sip of wine our glasses were immediately topped up (CRN we get you another glass or a bottle?) and empty tapas plate moved promptly (what would you like next? please leave now so we can get more people in!).<br/><br/>Home baked bread - getting 2 cold slice of ciabatta without butter or simple olive oil and balsamic reduction and charging for it was a let down. <br/><br/>Credit card surcharge is a petty move to say the least. <br/><br/>Food was excellent with magnificent flavours, but I’m not sure I enjoyed the dining experience enough to go back. I’d follow this Head Chef to his/her next restaurant. <br/><br/>If you are after some great flavours to tease your tastebuds it’s worth a visit. <br/><br/>p.s. I’ve never been to Spain so not sure if this is an authentic Spanish cousins. <br/>

Took the advantage of the Fork 50% off food bill promo to have dinner in a group of five last night. We selected tapas style to share quite a few dishes among us including duck lover parfait, Tempura fish, Harvey Bay scallops, Galician octopus, Lamb shoulder, smoked duck breast, Paellita by Javier and seasonal green.<br/>The let down was some of the dishes were more like fusion food rather than a Spanish style as it was before. Having said that the taste and CP were both good. Moreover, the service was above average standard.<br/><br/>Previous visits:<br/>Feb 2019 4/5<br/>Aug 2018 4/5<br/>Jun 2015 4/5

Delicious food and amazing service at Moda tapas bar.<br/><br/>Octopus salad and Jalapeno poppers are a favorite.

Our dinner at Moda is with The Fork’s generous 50% discount. Warmly greeted on arrival, we are shown to our table. Phuong Tran orders her Cocktail as I decide on our dinner. PT loves the Jungle Bird, a Cocktail of Campari, Rum and Pineapple juice. Before long, our meals from the open planned kitchen start to arrive. <br/><br/>* Harvey Bay Scallops are visually stunning. Plump Scallops are grilled with Spanish Ham, Saffron and Cauliflower then topped with watercress. Delicious!<br/><br/>* Orange Roughy is served with Saffron Potatoes and a Champagne Sauce. A great match! While I understand this is a quality fish, the serving is surprisingly small. <br/><br/>* Confit Duck Leg comes with Red Cabbage and apple Chutney and a fresh Salad. A generous serve and this Duck dish is nicely prepared. <br/><br/>* Riverina Beef Cheeks is served on a bed of sautĂ©ed Kale with a side of mashed purple Sweet Potato. The tender Beef Cheeks are nicely seasoned and delicious. <br/><br/>We rate our dishes between 4 and 5! Special thanks to our jovial Bartender and the friendly helpful wait staff. The 50% discount provides amazing value for this highly rated restaurant. Our overall rating for this meal improves to a perfect 5!

After Peasant was closed, we decided to check out what the Moda hype was all about. Unfortunately we still don't really understand it.<br/>Excellent:  The caulifower panna cotta with Avruga caviar (Australian caviar according to the waiter *hahaha*)<br/>Good: The meatballs - however maybe not quite good enough to charge $25 for 4 of them<br/>Mediocre: The fried gnocchi with a sweet-ish sauce, the black Spanish anchovies that were just 'standard' anchovies (and for cuteness were served in a can), the bland deep fried 'jalapenos'<br/>Fail: The overcooked pipis that were most rubbery mollusc I had eaten since our legendary uni canteen calamari 20 years ago. When we sent them back the chef said: "They are always like that". However he did try again and the second batch was not exactly tender but ok.<br/><br/>So yes - all in all - we don't really understand the hype, given the amount of great restaurants this city offers.
MrZetsubou
So far one of the best restaurants with very good wagyu steaks for the price. The entrees and tapas are pricey, but most of them are generally really good, would definitely come back again.

Exquisite food in a wonderful setting!<br/><br/>We came here for a work Christmas party and we were allocated the table right in front of the kitchen. Every dish was a masterpiece - duck liver parfait, fried Jalapeno peppers stuffed with goat's cheese, piquillo peppers stuffed with salted cod and figs wrapped in jamon to start with followed by meltingly tender beef short rib. I chose the berry crumble for dessert which was amazing. The wine was delicious and the service was impeccable. This was a wonderful treat and a fabulous way to celebrate Christmas!!

Wow. Javier’s Table. Such a warm, generous and extremely satisfying restaurant experience. Spanish has long been a favourite cuisine of ours so we jumped on the chance to return to Moda after what seems forever! A group of 6 of us dined and were all blown away with not just the taste and quality of the ‘feed me’ style menu that we chose but also the quantity (something that lacks in other examples we’ve had). We literally needed to be rolled out the restaurant. You genuinely feel like you are in someone’s home with old school hospitality that is another rare find. Going to make sure that it’s not so long between visits this time.
Brisbanista
One my favourite Mediterranian restaurants in Brisbane. The food is always first class. It's where we had our wedding dinner and we got back for our anniversary.
Satiety Society
Went to Moda for the first time on the weekend. The staff were friendly and helpful and the restaurant was quiet and had lovely decor. The entrees were delicious. I had the stuffed zucchini flowers which came with a tasty goats cheese and generous corn salsa. For main course I had fish of the day. It was a delicious piece of barramundi but the only accompaniment was potato which was roasted in fat and very, very salty. It would have been nice with some greens on the side but they weren’t available. I got some cauliflower which was nice but it needed some fresh, clean greens. The experience was great but the main meal was not outstanding by any measure.
Breakfasts&Burgers
Love Moda. Javier’s Table is a must do dining experience in Brisbane and only issue is that it can be too much food!! I was rolling out the door! The service is impeccable and very welcoming. I love the food and wine list is just as good. Highly recommend.

Extremely disappointing experience - rude, arrogant and snobbish staff. <br/><br/>Second time at Moda. We were given a $300 voucher as a wedding present and came to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. This wasn’t a “discount” or voucher but a $300 prior payment. <br/><br/>Staff made us feel they were doing us a “favour” by honouring the voucher at such a “busy time of year” - main waiter was incredibly rude. We asked for a photo (to send to the person that originally purchased the present) only to be told he was too busy - restaurant was not full. When I politely asked for another waiter to take the picture instead he begrudgingly obliged, not before once again making a rude & disparaging remark. <br/><br/>The food was ok - tried “Javier’s Table” - seemed an odd/confused combination. <br/><br/>Wouldn’t recommend and won’t be returning for a third time. <br/><br/>Many better options with friendly service in Brisbane.
Leisa
I've been here twice now and each time the food has not disappointed. Bursting with flavour and good portion sizes. Our waiter was pleasant and professional. I will be continue to come back here.

Booked via Dimmi for my birthday with a 50% off offer. Despite it still being up on the website 2 hours before my booking when I called up they said they refused to honour it. Both the manager and owner were extremely rude and not once did anyone apologise. They blamed it on Dimmi and took no responsibility.
Sam Denman
We tried the Javier's Table experience and the entrees deserve a special mention. Portions were a good size. A miscommunication with our desserts was the only downside but experience was enjoyable
Matthew
The food was beautiful .... except there was a little to much vinaigrette on some of it. We had the tasting menu .... I would have given them a 5 plus except for the scallops and fish had a little to much vinaigrette .... was delicious without the excess.... the service was exceptional ... would I go there again YES

I went to moda with a group of friends, why a beautiful restaurant to enjoy tapas and wine.<br/>The service was really nice, and the food outstanding

My friend and I took advantage of the '50% off dining' promotion and had dinner here. I ordered the Tasmanian milk fed lamb with polenta and piquillo peppers. Rustic presentation and generous portion. The lamb was tender, the jus was full of flavour and well balanced with the sweet peppers. The service was friendly and efficient. I appreciated the chef's passion as it was reflected in the way he served the dishes to us. Perfect meal.

Had dinner here last night. The service was great, with staff being very friendly and attentive. My partner had the rabbit pie with vanilla scented jus while I had the suckling pig with gnocchi. One of the best gnocchi dishes I've ever had. It was light and crispy. Everything was simply delicious!
DianaW
Enjoyed the dining experience here. We were seated straight away & orders taken quite quickly. We had three entrees to share, of particular note was the cauliflower Pannacotta, light & airy with a subtle creamy tinge.  Soft shell crab was also done well as was the pork belly. Mains- my fish was perfectly cooked , fell away from the fork. Partners duck breast also perfectly cooked  with that rosy glow. Dessert was my favorite churros, delightfully crisp with that soft centre & runny chocolate sauce. Service was a bit of a let down, long waits in between courses & we weren't even asked how our meal was when we left
Jessie-Rose Fargnoli
Great quality, authentic Turkish food and amazing service. We really loved the staff. The eggplant dip is incredible and the mixed meat platter. Don't forget to experience the Turkish ice cream!
Nicole Hung
I generally don't give low ratings...unless the food was bad....OR the service was a bit disappointing...The food was quite good at Moda....but the service....wasn't very pleased with...therefore didn't enjoy the whole experience<br/>Not sure if it's because we had the 50% off deal...or if the service was generally like that.....<br/>The lady who greeted us at the door didn't look at us when she said welcome...no smile....<br/>The service was very slow.....took about 20min for our entree to come out....took another 30 min for mains..and after they cleared the table from the mains....they took another 30 min for 1 dessert to come out....it was just a few churros...a chocolate dip..and a small scoop of ice cream....that took 30 min to prepare.....<br/>The table next to us came later than us, had more people than us....got their food quicker than us and finished their dessert and left before we even got our 1 churro dessert...<br/>It wasn't easy to get a staff over when we wanted to ask to check on our dessert......<br/>The food in general was ok, but the service wasn't....wouldn't be back again sorry.

Last year, a friend had told me how much she enjoyed a meal at Moda, situated near the botanical gardens side of Edward Street. Being quite curious about Spanish food, I relished in the opportunity to try it out, however having also been told that the seating is quasi alfresco, my companions and I waited until the weather was perfect (not too hot that we are sweating like pigs, nor too cold that the food becomes chilled too quickly) before heading there for dinner last week.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
There is a lot to like about Moda.  Good food, nice atmosphere and an accommodating chef.  I went here for work, enjoyed it so much that I returned with my wife for date night the following week and ended back up here again for work a few weeks later.  The Chorizo really stood out for me.  By the third time I went, I convinced the chef to plate a triple order of the chorizo (without the capsicum) as my main course. Very enjoyable and will return, but we needed a break after three visits in a month.

We were excited for a dinner out at a fine dining restaurant. Loved the alfresco dining which is perfect for Brisbane weather. The entrees were amazing, standout being the octopus with a beautiful sweet mango sauce. Unfortunately the mains were a bit underwhelming. We enjoyed the duck with arugula salad, but the Catalan seafood was extremely salty such that we couldn't finish it. Service was friendly during the night, but a comment at the end (the waiter said he had 'a feeling [we] had a voucher') didn't come off very well. Overall I think we wouldn't be rushing back, as there are many other wonderful establishments at this price point.

*please note that a return visit a few months later proved to be a dreadful disappointment. See Zomato for the updated review.*. Given that I rarely go into the city, perhaps it isn’t that surprising that I didn’t really know about Moda. If there’s a deal though, I pay attention. It is off the busier drags of the pedestrian mall of the CBD and the dining strip of Eagle Street Pier, located near the river but just out of sight of it. What that means, being away from a more trafficked area though, is that it is a semi-secluded dining area. Being there is like being in a garden, as it is a covered area, but open on three sides, and there are hedges and pots of plants around you. A couple of lines in the menu say that on Friday afternoons, a chef and paella pan take up residence in that urban garden. Unfortunately, paella doesn’t seem to be available on other days or at other times. It is a beautiful setting, particularly in the evening, with the chandelier alight. Just that bit dressed up without being stuffy.

Had a very ordinary meal at Moda- was sooo dissatisfied! Not keen to try again,. All meals were burnt. Cannot recommend this resturant and if you choose to venture proceed with caution!

I had a booking but when I rang  to confirm we had been bumped to make way for a private function- lucky I called. Not sure what is happening with Brisbane restaurants but this is the third time this year that my lunch group have had a booking at a Brisbane restaurant and have been bumped to make way for a function. On each occasion the restaurant hasn't bothered to call!

The service was alright. But the tables are not prepared and cleaned very promptly. <br/><br/>The selection of food are quiet limited. The serve were large with a higher price tag. <br/><br/>We tried the Paella special and the calamari entree. The taste was good, especially with special combinations of citrus (pineapples and orange). But it was served lukewarm.<br/><br/>The waiter ordered us two identical strawberry based cocktails, which were clearly different color and strength. But really a cocktail, but more like a soda drink with color, hardly tasted any strawberry.<br/><br/>

I really rate this place. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal, the food was well cooked and delightful, the staff friendly and helpful, decor and surroundings very pleasant. The market fish of the day was from Hervey bay and was one of the finest pieces of fish I have ever eaten. The menu item whereby the chef chooses what you are served worked particularly well. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for, and I look forward to returning soon.

I have been here many times for dinner and have enjoyed each time. I would recommend getting Javier's table experience. The service is also always excellent and Francois is very welcoming.

Moda was a great find whilst we were staying across the road. Javier's table experience is definitely the way to go. A good taste of everything. Staff were fantastic and accommodating. Service was second to none-and we have eaten at a lot of high end restaurants! Highly recommended if you are in Brisbane and want good food.

Disappointed with the lack of flavours, stinginess with serving sizes and strange clash of decor - trying to be fine dining-ish with awkward splashes of Mediterranean decor, did not work at all. We ordered a seafood pot in a tomato base/broth and it came as is, even though the waiter described it as coming with "delicious, crispy bread". When no bread came out, we enquired with another waiter who seemed shocked we asked for such an incomprehensible request - bread to soak up the sauce? He brought out a measly dry, stale piece of raw ciabatta (so hard and chewy!) it was actually a joke. Definitely amateurs running a sideshow under the headline of a well-known chef. Such a shame, won't be returning.

Lovely experience. I recently dined here and the experience was lovely. We shared a large plate of tapas and all were excellent. The only issue was that all the tapas came out together, meaning by the time we got to the last ones, they were cold, which was a shame. The churros for dessert were not the best. The service was excellent, with all of the wait staff being friendly and engaging. The wine list is good, and we enjoyed some nice spanish wines by the glass. Overall it was a lovely experience and I would recommend. The tapas were on the expensive side, but for a lovely meal and setting, you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful food: had 3 different entrees (chicken, octopus, and prawns), the amazing lamb shoulder and honeycomb blueberry dessert. Price is very reasonable, decor was okay and service was great. Will come back again soon, I rate this place 7.5/10 for fine dining.

Yum!!. Absolutely loved the food and the whole experience! Just perfect for celebrating our anniversary. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Will definitely return

Great experience.. !!. Loved the whole experience in here.<br/>Food was amazing (we choose the javiers Dinner - kinda 3 course meal set as per chef likings) and have to say they did cater to our small requirements as well.<br/>At the end of our meals we were served sherry complimentary and was soo good.<br/><br/>Very decent size portions and still maintained the quality and freshness in each dish.<br/><br/>Will surely go back.
Hatumu
Food excellent. Service excellent (and flair for good measure). Overall great value for money.

OMG. This place is one of Brisbane best kept secrets. Although my wife and I could not enjoy the large drinks menu ( hungover ) my glass of water was never empty with them topping as soon as it started to get empty. Large range of food to entice anyone's taste buds. <br/>By far the stand out was the service, I have traveled the world and this place would have to be right up their with the best.<br/>Highly recommended.

The Creme Caramel. Sooooo nice

Very special. I visited Moda twice over the past two weeks, and on both occasions I had a wonderful time shared with friends. All were in agreement that the quality of the food and service was exceptional. We were there on weeknights, so we did not have the opportunity to sample from the wine menu, but from a quick glance, it looked very well put together. In terms of the food I would strongly recommend Javier's table - incredible value, and very generous! Highlights include the octupus, ox tail, and creme catalana. Moda lives up to the fine dining tag, and it is the perfect place to go when you want a special evening out.

Came here for lunch on a friday, great seafood paella, and the wine was matched perfectly. will be back

Great night for a hens!. My sisters hens was coming up and she requested something more low key. So we decided to have a bridal/ hens dinner at Moda restaurant and it was fantastic. The staff were very attentive and so flexible, we were able to play our own music and even have a slideshow which included all the photos of the bride to be and her fiance :) The food was incredible, the paella with prawns and mussels was out of this world. The staff also made the best sangria I have ever had for all of my guests. I cannot speak more highly of this restaurant
Craig
I am a quite big fan of the moda restaurant, which always used to feel me love with paellas and the rest ones. Its restaurant has the own gigantic romantic atmosphere for the lovers by sincere foods and great care of customer service. I'd say about Moda is the best of the best restaurant in Brisbane. The experiences I got before were gigantically amazed at all !!!
Bubu
I do like Moda for its consistently enjoyable and satisfying dishes. Inspiring Catalonian brilliance. This is a place that makes things that you remember a year later - how many restaurant dishes stay with you that long, or longer? Brisbane's best black pudding, dory with herbs, salad and citrus, crema catalana were some of my favourites. I look forward to many more.
Steve
Great food Great Service. Attended this venue on a Tuesday night. Was quite so the staff were very attentive. <br/><br/>The food ordered was excellent. Must order the Octopus as an entree, was the best. <br/><br/>Had Beef Cheeks and Duck confit for mains. Both were superb. <br/><br/>The best was the Chocolate Fondant. It is hard to find a decent fondant in Brisbane these days but Moda have one of the best! <br/><br/>A must try restaurant!
Secretreview
Happy staff but the food let itself down. We dined here for a work lunch and there were high expectations because spanish food is always that more exotic. However, the main that I ordered 'the pork special with rocket and walnut salad and peanut sauce' flavour combination did not hit the mark. I had one bite of my meal and couldn't finish the rest. The combination of peanut and then the sweet glaze clashed. <br/>The positive however was the tapas. Absolutely delicious. We ordered the croquettes, squid and chorizos, everyone was happy at the table. <br/>Overall though, pricey and would recommend elsewhere.

Ups and downs. Moda needs to make every dish taste good. The dining atmosphere and service are excellent. The duck confit and the duck liver parfait taste great. However some of the dishes were average - chicken croquettes, fish ceviche. I am aware that the chicken croquettes are a family recipe but they could be improved to have some texture. I could not tell where was the chicken. There was one dish which was quite terrible - the Angel Hair Pasta. When we ate it, the angel hair pasta was broken into tiny pieces around 1 cm long each, tasted like it was fried in soy sauce. It was quite different to the angel hair pastas that I was used to. I just assumed that I was not educated in the dish because I did not know what Sofrito meant. I assumed it was a style. However afterwards I thought to myself that even the authentic dish could not taste this bad.
Ivana.manwin
Food that is half the size of your fist for 5 TIMES the Price $$$$. Its a nice place, if you're not hungry ;)<br/>Service is fine - a bit out there, always asking how you are and how the food is before you even put your fork in it.<br/>Food is not made from scratch, I know because I've seen and tried the same food at Brisbane Food Expo.<br/>Definitely not food for value no offence.<br/><br/>If you want to go somewhere nice looking, wanna chat and you're on a serious diet, this place is definitely ideal for you.

Wonderful experience. From the moment you enter into the restaurant, it really feels like in Spain. It has great atmosphere, and live spanish music. We had a table of four to celebrate birthday and ordered Javiers table experience with a Spanish wine recommended by our waiter. Entries were to die for and plenty to feed all. Wine had a great taste. Mains were great, lamb falling off the bone, Seafood on the brown noodles was everyones favourite, and the sword fish with a great sauce. The spanish cookery adds to the experience. Finally our deserts was small, but each with great taste. Deserts are small amounts, but after a full meal, just the right amount, all with great taste. Our deserts were accompanied by the three chefs coming to our table for the birthday girl and also they ordered lovely desert wine free for the table. It really made the night extra special for her. The table service was excellent, our waiter made us feel like we are the only table there. <br/>A couple minor hiccups, if sorted, will turn the experience to a sensational experience. The wait for the entries could be shortened with bread first on the table. Also disappointment is not finding Sangria in the drinks menu!<br/>We loved the singing, loved the service, loved the food, especially the ambiance. Will be back to taste other food on the menu.

Moda reigns supreme. My culinary tragics, Javier and Francios, once again presented the most exquisite meal for a group of friends and myself. Wonderful wine list with great staff to guide you around, seriously good entres and mains ( though lazy as we are we elected Javier's table selection). Not a foot wrong, deserts and cheese impeccable, sherry matching a delight, live music equally delectable. I'm am not sure why I have been elsewhere lately, but a revisit simply confirmed Modas reputation as the only decent French/Spanish (?) restaurant in town, and one of the best, whatever the genre
FudeDuke
Don't waste your money!. We were really looking forward to Moda after reading the reviews - our food was awful...entrees were nothing special and we had the filet mignon to share at $45 head and I've had better pub food. It looked fantastic with a lovely looking sauce but was bland and boring. A lingering flavour of oil was all that remained and we weren't going to hand over more money on dessert so skipped it and went home very disappointed that we'd wasted our money. For that money you expect a culinary adventure and experience - not so by a long long way. Don't bother!

Wonderful. My partner and I dined at Moda last night and we were very impressed. <br/><br/>The service is lovely, knowledgeable and attentive, and the atmosphere is fabulous!<br/><br/>We had the Javier's Table Experience, and it was divine. So tasty and enjoyable, and the variety of food presented was sensational. <br/><br/>I would also recommend the Sangria too. It was quite a popular item from where we were sitting. <br/><br/>Overall, we were very impressed and would love to come back again! Highly recommended!

Amazing, one of Brisbanes best!. Moda restaurant definitely has to be one of the best restaurants in Brisbane. The food is absolutely amazing! The staff are also extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Overall a great experience!

Sensational. Just go for Javier's table experience and whatever wine they recommend. It was all sensational! They care about what they do.

Fantastic restaurant, one of the best I have been to in Brisbane. Service is fantastic and the food is even better. <br/>It is expensive but lovely for a special occasion. The outdoor setting is lovely.
Renata
Amazing dinner & Great Service. Our main meals were amazing. Perfectly cooked and great portion size. The service was fantastic.. Very friendly and helpful, and the restaurant had a nice ambience..<br/><br/>The only disappointment were the desserts.. My partner and I were both let down by the small portion size and expensive prices..<br/><br/>We will return again for dinner, but probably skip the dessert!
Food Glorious Food
Perfection!!!!. Before I rave about the food, the service was just amazing. It's been a while since I've tipped, but tonight, I felt that I must tip, because the waitstaff were just sensational. <br/>Good knowledge of the food with re to how it's cooked, where's it's been sourced and flavour. <br/>Now the food, is just simply amazing.<br/>We had the Javier's table experience. A mixture so entries and what stood out was everything!!every bite was a surprise as yo how delicious it was. <br/>Mains were well cooked and seasoned. <br/>Dessert, was just a complete experience. <br/>From the in house fresh curd, Spanish creme caramel,French toast topped with dark chocolate mousse and the rice pudding. <br/>I would normally shy away from the city just to eat, but thought I'd give it a go due to the urbanspoon 50%.<br/>And I'm so glad I did because I would definitely make the trip. <br/>You MUST try this place out

Possibly by far the best Turkish restaurant in Brisbane!! Best food, amazing service and don't even get me started on the dessert!!! I might roll out..

Wellingtonians visiting Brisbane. Fantastic food with a Spanish theme, highly recommended for a fine dining experience. Wellington is blessed with fine dining, but we impressed with Moda

I went to Moda last Saturday night with my partner and had a great experience! The food was incredible! We had the tasting plate an everything was so good! The food had so much flavour and the wine matched perfectly. Service was also excellent we also met the owner who was going round to every table introducing himself. The mix of French and Spanish food was to die for! I've definitely been recommending this place to all my friends.

Four of us went on a Wednesday night and it was busy so make sure you book! We all got the 'javier's tasting experience' and were blown away! So good, will be back!

Had javiers vegetarian table tonight and wow!!! Incredible food and an even better wine to match it. Service was friendly, helpful and attentive. Ill be back for sure!! Loved it!!

Exceptional Night. We had the most wonderful night for our daughter's 21st birthday dinner at Moda Restaurant. A family friend had recommended the restaurant to us and the private room upstairs was perfect our 30 guests. Francois was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine and he organised the evening for us with flare and no fuss. Nothing was too much trouble.<br/><br/>We knew the night was going to be a success but it exceeded our expectation The service by Francois and his staff was exceptional; they were so courteous and efficient. And the dishes by Javier were to die for. Compliments to the chef and his staff for the fabulous flavours and presentation.<br/><br/>This the best we have ever experienced and we can't wait to return to Moda. A special thank you to Francois and his team for making it such a memorable occasion for us.

Wonderful Meal. We had a wonderful lunch yesterday at Moda. 2 of us had Javier's Paella which was fantastic with large juicy pan seared Mooloolaba scallops, prawns, mussels, chicken and pork and more than enough for a lunchtime fill. The other diners had the salmon and scampi both of which stated that it was perfectly cooked and were very pleased with the meal.<br/><br/>We started with some mixed tapas and finished the lunch off with some mixed desserts and cheese.<br/><br/>The service was excellent. All the staff were courteous and knowledgeable.<br/><br/>We all said that we cant wait to come back again.

Exceeded all expectations. We had Javier's Table Experience which was a degustation of 14 tapas dishes, each of which were well presented, perfectly complimentary in flavors and delicious. They were happy to cater to my partner's dislike of seafood while allowing me to still enjoy dishes containing seafood.<br/><br/>The wine list is extensive, and based on what i have tried of it, excellent. It caters for everything from cheaper by the glass options to bottles with some heftier price tags.<br/><br/>The wait staff and what I assume was the owner were happy, helpful, efficient. They really knew their menu and wine list which was appreciated.<br/><br/>If all this is not enough reason to check out Moda then you should at least go to check out the duck pate parfait. It is superb!

Perfect for a special occasion or first date, the food is very impressive. We had entre served on a wooden platter which was great for sharing with our table of 4, all 5 tapas dishes were outstanding. This restaurant is a must do, if you enjoy spanish food. Quite pricey, but the food is a standout!

Ruined my Birthday. We went there Friday 22 March 2013 – 7.30pm. It was to celebrate my birthday and we were looking forward to it. We were seated by a friendly waiter and got our drinks served by another waiter who was very friendly and professional – unfortunately I have to say that this was the best part of the evening. <br/>Our entrees arrived: Salt & Pepper squid – which would have been great but there was far too much salt in the batter (and I usually have the habit to put salt on most meals I have to admit – so if it’s too salty for me – it is really salty) – and hubby had the chicken croquets – which were too salty as well. And then we waited and waited and waited for more than 1 hour for our mains to come out. But it was not only us waiting but nearly the entire restaurant (which was not fully booked by the way). Some people started complaining , some people left, and the party of 10 seated beside us were getting really drunk. The chef was chatting with several guests while everyone was waiting – and there were about 8 people working in the kitchen! Finally – the mains started to come out – but unfortunately for me – my Ocean trout was far from good. It was supposed to be pan fried and finished in the oven – the skin was fried alright – the other side has probably touched the pan for 1 minute and I do not believe that it has ever found it’s way into the oven as it was completely rare in the middle. It was ‘swimming’ in a marinade of heaps of olive oil and far too much lemon juice which made the fish even worse. So I ate half of the fish – you would have expected someone to ask why only half of a main was eaten – if there was something wrong with it .....not so much. Hubbies duck was ok – nearly too rare – veeeeeery pink in the middle – was just enough cooked so that no blood was coming out. <br/>Apart from that – the setting was nice – but – it was a very sticky evening – the fans were not going & no air condition – so we were sweating – which I do not appreciate at the best of times – but when you go out for a special meal , all dressed up and then you feel all sticky and sweaty and need a shower afterwards..........<br/>When hubby paid the bill the girl at the counter looked at the bill which prints the time when the order was taken and when the meal came out of the kitchen and even she said “You had to wait for a long time” and added that lots of customers had been complaining that evening and that she even had a customer recently explaining to her how the meals are supposed to be cooked – I am not surprised.<br/>Sorry guys – just having a celebrity chef in the kitchen is not enough. <br/>It was a very disappointing birthday evening and we won’t be back. Do not recommend.

Went to Moda on my monthly dinner with my friend. On entry it was awkward as no waitstaff came to seat or greet us so I had to walk to the bar were a friendly waiter seated us and thanked us one too many a times for dining at moda. We ordered drinks and our meal with another waitstaff who was just as friendly and polite. Received our drinks and entrees- salt and pepper squid and mushroom starters that were just ok. Then our 1.5 hour wait of our main meal began. We ordered the braised lamb shoulder which was full of flavour and delicious (my friends meal) and angel hair pasta with seafood(my meal) which was completely tragic. They cut up the angel hair pasta so that it was 2cm length and seemed as though they had baked it. Got 1 scallop, 1 prawn and 4 mini mini pipis drizzled with heavy cream. It was such a mess and I barely touched my dinner. Didnt even care to tell the waitress how horrible my meal was in case they took another hour and a half to try and redeem themselves with another plate of mess. Just awful and I'm very disappointed that we left as soon as my friend finished her meal. Won't be coming back to Moda purely from the disappointed choices of meal I made and the extremely long wait for a dismal dish. However the staff were extremely friendly and service was good after the initial awkwardness.

Am I an advocate for Moda?. This was a BIG restaurant ... big flavours in every dish, big smiles from the wait staff, and a big bill at the end of it. But am I an advocate for Moda now? Was it an experience I want everyone to enjoy? No.<br/><br/>Food - lovely entrees of chorizo w capsicum and serrano w figs. A beautiful sauce with the lamb and polenta. These are all things I'd struggle to match if I cooked at home. However, parts of the milk-fed lamb were raw (it's a $42 dish), overpowering flavour in the angel hair pasta w barely any seafood (left most of the dish), char-grilled vegetables that were blacker than the night and mostly carbon, and we paid for 4 slices of ordinary ciabatta bread (it doesn't need a separate waitress with a wooden board and spoon and fork to serve bread!).<br/>Drink - a nice couple of glasses of Moritz beer throughout the meal was enough. <br/>Ambience - outside tables are all very poorly lit at night. We could see the food and each other but it was dark enough that we couldn't see the colours.<br/>Service - timing of the food service was right for us and the restaurant staff were very attentive and friendly.<br/><br/>All of that was $169 for two people and no wine or dessert. So for the overall dining experience vs. the cost, Moda was not value for money.

Greeted by friendly and helpful staff. We were not sure what to expect but the food was amazing. Every single dish was excellent, particularly the seafood which was so fresh and perfectly cooked. Highlights included the Moreton Bay Bug, seafood pasta and the dessert tapas. We left as very happy diners. Ask about the Spanish beer too!

Took a table for nine last night. Excellent service, food and wine list.

Dined here tonight and it was faultless! Very attentive waiter, great atmosphere and the food was devine! Ordered the scollops and stuffed zucchini flowers for entree which were beautifully presented and for main course I would highly recommend the lamb rack for 2people which is slow cooked in a clay casing and cracked open at your table for you. From others reviews it seems the paella is a disaster however our dishes were all superb and we will definitely be returning.
Peter
Good food, excellent service. Just want to say "Thank you guys".

Below average. Ate at Moda last night with some girlfriends. One of my friends had a group-buy voucher - luckily - because you wouldn't want to pay full price for the quality of food we were served, especially the paella. Our entrees were passable - goats cheese stuffed zucchini flower (simple but tasty), chorizo and peppers (again, very basic, could have made it at home), chicken croquettes (very average) and the scallops (my friends said these were flavourless).<br/><br/>Now, onto the paella, which is meant to be Javier's "signature" dish. Really? I hope not. I reckon you'd get better paella at Sizzler or your local RSL, if they made it. This would have failed round one on Masterchef, it was that bad. It was overcooked and dry, lacked depth of flavour and by the time it got to our table, it was cold. Full price for this monstrosity is $80. It included two prawns, two scallops, six mussels, and one small bug cut in half. We also shared a barramundi main. The barramundi was nicely cooked, but the side serve of tagliatelle was butter-laden and very salty. The dish was served on a flavourless red sauce.<br/><br/>We shared a dessert platter and everything on this was lovely - so the pastry/dessert chef has a clue. The service was also quite good.<br/><br/>My friends and I eat out regularly at Brisbane restaurants and in all honestly, when it comes to food, this was probably one of the most underwhelming experiences we've had. Avoid unless you have a $59 voucher!

Always a pleasure! I have been to Moda several times now... Great food, great wine, and great atmosphere. The staff are very engaging which is refreshing. A lovely restaurant if you want to treat yourself.

Horrible Service and Very Overpriced. This is one restaurant that I definitely would not recommend. While the Paella was nice it certainly was no better than in a restaurant that charges half the price. The muscles were small and over cooked and there was not the traditional crust that a good paella should have. <br/><br/>I don't mind paying this price when you are treated with excellent service however I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my life. The waiter was rude and arrogant and simple requests seemed to be too difficult. There were none of the charms of a classic good restaurant and the waiter ruined my night.<br/><br/>I will not be returning!

Never Again!!!. I chose to dine at Moda for my birthday recently and it was the worst dining experience I have ever had.<br/>A friend arrived a couple of minutes before the rest of the group (there were 9 of us in total) and was not even offered water while she waited. Not a good start.<br/>Although the food was tasty - I couldn't fault the flavour or presentation - it did take a considerable time to arrive and it was a Tuesday night so there were only a few other diners.<br/>I knew that the pricing was exorbitant, but given the inner city position and 'celebrity' chef I could see reason. However, there really is no reason at all. <br/>I dine out for the experience, and when I chose a fine dining restaurant I expect a certain level of service. It is, after all, what you are paying for. Needless to say I was completely appualed when the waiter (having been asked to clarify the breakdown of our bill) became irate, threatened to charge us extra, accused us of not knowing what we were doing, refused to get managment when asked, refused to give his name when asked and then told one of my friends to f*** off. Unnaccetable! Absurd! A McDonalds employee would know better than to behave in such a way.<br/>I will never be returning and if you are considering going, DON'T.

After reading mixed reviews I was sceptical about bringing my girlfriend here for her 21st. We came for the gypsy jazz night and had a fantastic evening. Besides the angel hair pasta, all the food was delightful, especially the confit duck leg. The wine menu was extensive and the service was good. Thanks to Francois for making it such an enjoyable night.

Rip off. Went with 10 people for dinner. Completely underwhelmed by entree which were absolutely tiny and $16 each. It was appalling how little food was provided for that amount of money. We ordered extra bread due to lack of food and each person was given a tiny slice of bread. Like some people got end bits that were the size of a cracker. We ended up ordering paella, which tasted ok but for the price i was expecting more meat and to be blown away. I've written mostly positive reviews on he before (as you will see) and i usually dont let little things ruin an evening but we were starving and this was a rip off. For god's sake if you want to give tiny entrees give us bread and lots of it. And here's a unique idea - bread is cheap. It should be free if you are charging $80 for your paella...
David
Service superb .... Super tasting plates ( especially anchovies) delicious paella .... Definitely a come back again place ... Excellent choices of wines by the glass.... Oh & very yummy desserts ...

Not coming back. Went to Moda to celebrate my husband's birthday with family. A beautifull wine range though expensive, the entree's we chose were what they should be, well presented and flavour some.<br/>Now for the mains, Hare tasted well but almost non-existent, Angelhair pasta was dissapointing, a plate of noodles with 2 scallpos and 3 pieces of calamari, very strong in flavour and as though just dropped in the plate with no garnish or presentation.<br/>The worst for last (PAELLA) <br/>Sorry Xavier you can't cook a paella! A paella for two for $80, this is what you get :100grms of rice, 2 prawns, 2 mussels with no meat in it as they were black mussels from NZ out of season, 2 tiny yabbies and 20grms of chicken, no crust in the bottom of the pan and was a warm dish, as though cooked in bulk and then plated into paella pan. Sorry forgot to mention 4 wedges of lemon. What a rip off.<br/>Unfortunately the French Maitre dine could not handle the or understood how to fix a complaint.<br/>Spend over $457 for five of us, for nothing.<br/>However the service of our waitress was ten out of ten.<br/>Sorry guys won't be recommending you to anyone!

A wonderful night out!. My fiance and I had a wonderful time here. The atmosphere was romantic and a little bit eclectic. The service was friendly but subtle and the food was amazing!! My fiance had the Spanner Crab Toastie and the Australian Seabass and thoroughly enjoyed both. I loved the Roasted Quail and was blown away by the wonderful flavors in the Suckling Pig! We finished our lovely meal with the scrumptious Homemade Churros :-)

Over priced. Food taste ok, not very special, but very over priced. $80 paella for 2 prawns, 2 scampies, and few skinny mussels...Service was good, but very pushing, seems no freedom....
Jg
Disappointing. Was excited with the prospect of dining here, but left thoroughly disappointed. The paella was so salty I didn't want to eat it, the snapper was tiny and $40 for a couple of scampi on a plate! Service was good but the prices were ridiculous for what you got. Suggest you dine elsewhere.

Pleasant dining experience. We were using a coupon but were treated well. Good service - very pleasant staff. Food was good but not exceptional. Nice quiet location.
Lauren
Not a favourite. Food was just ok - pork belly dry and overlooked, paella underwhelming with the smallest mussels ever seen and no crusty bottom in the dish, a bit lacking in flavour. Churros was nice but hard to get wrong. Good service but probably will not be back. Glad I had a daily deal and wasn't paying full price.
Miss MG
It was ok - but just that. Certainly didn't reach my expectations. Whilst I can't fault decor/ambience and service the food was quite disappointing. Bland stuffed zucchini flowers, beards left on mussels in paella, well overcooked prawns - did quite meet the standard I was expecting from Moda.
Alison Morris
Delicious but expensive, the staff were fantastic, 3 out of 4 meals were amazing, the only one that wasn't amazing was the sole- great sides but the fish was a little lacking in flavor, wines were very $$ but lovely, all in all a great night!
Craig
Beautiful, but Expensive. The food was undeniably brilliant. The mixed entree plates were divine, that chorizo is ridiculous. <br/><br/>I had rabbit which was gamey but not overpowering, and may have detected a hidden subtle coriander tang to the sauce?<br/><br/>But it is expensive! Won't be rushing back.

Good food, impeccable service. "fine dining" that you can actually enjoy!
Charles
Nice martini's and tapas. It's evident Moda is happy to charge outrageously for food which is at best mediocre. Would never go there again and suggest you don't either.
Miss Mo
A bad night perhaps?. Atmosphere was lovely and service was good, especially from the jovial sommelier. Sadly, most of the food was quite ordinary. Good bread and olives, underwhelming tapas platter, dry rabbit, overcooked steak, bread and butter pudding itself a little dry, and icecream a bit 'icey' instead of creamy. A bill just under $250 and the most disappointing dining experience in quite a while. Obviously they're capable of much better given the experiences of others, but in this price bracket it's hard to justify taking the gamble on returning.

Moda is perfection. I recommend the abodo lamb. A lamb rack cooked in a clay casing is scrumptious and melts your heart. The chocolate tapas makes this place pure indulgence.
