Review Alchemy Restaurant And Bar - Brisbane

Good spot for night view of Story Bridge. This restaurant environment looks pretty nice with good design. Staff are young, well trained, professional, friendly and efficiently. The food were beautiful there, they have great chef👍every dishes came with art presentation, tasty flavour and right amount. My partner and I enjoyed our birthday celebration dinner there, highly recommended to people want one special meal experience.🍀👌👏

What a fabulous Italian restaurant. Such a great menu with a beautiful selection of wines including many from Italy. The waiters gladly assist you with matching the perfect wine to your meal. The service was 100% spot on, the views of the Story bridge were amazing and the menu had such a wide range of delicious options. I thoroughly enjoyed the swordfish- cooked so, so perfectly. Thanks to the chefs who gladly catered for a dairy free and gluten free allergy. It was a very memorable experience for all of my senses.

Incredible food and service. Made our anniversary dinner so special. Easy to book and such a beautiful view of the Brisbane River. Will definitely return the next time we're in Brisbane!

The food is wonderful, the waitress was very friendly, although most of customers are mature age, and I only can see a bit view, but still it is a good restaurant.

They make good cocktails. Apart from the 45 mins they took for starters and the next 45 mins for main course, service was good. The staff was professional and polite. The food was well presented but I didn't think the taste was worth the prices. The place has good ambience and a view of the storey bridge. Good place for dates and special occasions.

Great service. Delicious meal with decent portions sizes. The view is great and overlooks the river towards Story Bridge. Would go again and next time save room for desert

Beautiful setting gets 6 stars. Location is so spectacular, it would make peanut butter sandwiches awesome. Wait staff was above average but below expectations given price. A little over-bearing with plate and glass removal, three different waiters asked if we were done with a shared desert. Slightly less intense l, but a similar experience during the mains. Perhaps they were over staffed and it was a Monday. Sadly, food quality was just above average for a fine dining establishment so I'd give that barely 3 stars given the heavy price. Salmon was sadly fishy tasting and cooked medium well versus rare. Old fish is inexcusable. Other dishes were well prepared but not spectacular. Gnocchi and braised beef was good and the whole fish special was well prepared. Wine list is good, but the cocktail list looked more like a backroom inventory register, and while well-stocked, had only a few drink suggestions. That's something that needs work but it's an easy fix. The desert menu was the most imaginative and well-thought part of the meal with unusual combinations and multiple textures and temperatures. If you take a date here for a drink straight up, and a desert, you will have a really good experience. If you're looking for a great meal, I can't recommend this establishment.

Gorgeous river view restaurant with perfect dimmed lighting, service always very proffencinal and efficient. Food never ever dissapoints and always on point! The chef has mastered the art of being an pioneer in his artistic craft of taking food ingredients to a whole new level! 5 stars through and through.

I was so disappointed with my experience. We were seated and left with menus but no wine list. A couple were seated 15 minutes after us, received drinks and bread before the waitress came with the drinks menu we asked for. Finally we ordered a bottle of wine and they didn’t heave it. We ordered food which the waitress responded “good choice “ to everything we said. I could have ordered a Big Mac and she would have said good choice! I specifically asked her if we needed sides, she said yes, two would be appropriate for these meals. We did not need the extra sides our meals were of ample size with vegetables. Disappointing as we could not eat it all. Service was very poor for us on our table. I couldn’t speak for everyone. My husband enjoyed his steak but I felt my pork belly was so busy with sauces and an abundance of lentils. The price did not reflect the expectation. Overpriced. We got up to pay as no one came back to ask if we wanted the bill. We had to ask for a menu, ask for drinks and change the bill as they over charged us with the wine they didn’t have. Food was average but the staff we encountered, including the person who took our payment let the restaurant down. I was really looking forward to dining here but I would never bother again. For a beautiful setting it was incredibly loud. My father told me not to bother, I should have listened. Disappointing.

Last night we celebrated our 5yr anniversary at Alchemy. We had an amazing night, and we can't decide which was better, the food or the service! The degustation menu was amazing, every dish was beautiful. We can't recommend this place more! Can't wait to go back x

We just had our engagement party at Alchemy and it was fantastic. The food was outstanding and plentiful. We had the three hours of canapes and it was more than enough food for 50 people. The staff were very nice and accomodating to our needs. Thanks for the great night. 10/10 would recommend.

We recently had our wedding at Alchemy and cannot speak highly enough about this beautiful restaurant. The food was amazing, the staff went above and beyond to make our night perfect and the view was incrediable! All of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been too! A huge thank you to Ang, Brad and Liz for making our special day so memorable. 🤵🏻👰🏼🥂❤

Friendly and extremely hospitable professional staff. Menu is limited, and priced to higher end dining pricing more suitable to an occassonal indulgent experience. With a group booking, we were placed in an alcove with no river view to while away periods between courses, and my selected cocktail, a bloody Mary was very disappointing being very transparent and watery with an overpowering lemon flavour instead of being a desirable thick red tomatoe colour, texture and flavour with a stronger hot tobascoe flavour but I repeat that the service was extremely friendly, hospitable, and professional.

We went there to celebrate our daughter's 24th and were lucky enough to sit outside and enjoy the stunning views to the river. Food was excellent and to top it all our waiter Alessio "magiqued" a beautiful Happy Birthday plate at the end. Grazie Alessio!

Was taken to Alchemy for my 50 th birthday celebrations by life long friends ... the overall dining exoerience was excellent ... the food was spot on with the new menu that was launched only yesterday .. I had the pork belly for entree and the lamb for mains - both were beautiful with the lamb being the memorable dish for me. My friend was well catered for with many vegetarian options available too. Minor let downs were no table cloths and average chairs considering the higher end costs.
Chloe Leitner
Had an amazing night with my partner, from the moment we walked in the staff were welcoming and kind. The service was just as perfect as the food, can not fault anything at all, lamb & steak was beautiful so much flavour bursting in my mouth and to finish it off the chocolate marbre was very sweet and delicate, stunning way to finish off the meal. Will definitely be coming back soon. 10/10

Our amazing evening started the moment we walked through the door half an hour early for our table booking, as suggested by the charming gentleman who took our booking, and sat at the bar. Greeted by the resident bar magician Juan Paolo, our first drinks arrived in moments while he continued to keep pace with the dockets fountaining from his machine. Even though it was our first time at Alchemy, we were made to feel like old friends. When our table was ready we met Louis who looked after us for the rest of the evening. His charm definitely added to our total experience. I don’t remember the last time we spent 4 hours at a restaurant. And we enjoyed every moment. Food arrived exactly when it should. Drinks and water topped up almost without our noticing. The place was packed and the staff couldn’t have moved faster on roller skates but it never seemed rushed or stressed. Everyone was smiling and positive and danced the dance of practised professionals, even Courtney who was on her first shift. Now to the food. Our biggest dilemma was what to choose. The menu is not overcrowded and all the meals are well explained. This didn’t make it any easier, they all sounded and looked fabulous. What we did choose was beautifully cooked, beautifully presented and tasted divine. Flavours were clear, seasonings subtle. Special thanks to chef Andreas for the dessert he prepared for us. It was magical. And another thank you to venue manager Ethan for the suggestion of the limoncello to accompany our dessert. Thank you Alchemy. A very memorable evening.

Service was fantastic (Max is a wonderful and very helpful waiter). Food was delicious and atmosphere very comfortable. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion.

What s brilliant venue. We went for our work Christmas function, good was beautiful and the staff were amazing couldn't do enough for us. Would highly recommend Alchemy

Our fine dining experience was marred by spending our evening with a 21st birthday party. It was so noisy we had to ask to be moved to a quieter part of restaurant. Food was very good and service was great, though it would have been preferable to be asked how I wanted my duck to be cooked as it was rare when served. All in all good but not somewhere I would recommend.
Kirstie Lawrence
Beautiful dinner!! Steak was tender, beef cheeks cooked to perfection. <br/>One big issue though was the air con!!!!! <br/><br/>SUPER COLD! 🥺ruined my vibe!
Cathie
The overall experience was good and dishes were delicate, but the waiting time was too long. Besides, I marked the reservation for birthday and when the staff asked us if there’s a special occasion, we confirmed it again. But until we have the dessert and even left the restaurant, nothing special happens.

Alchemy Restaurant and Bar is a unique Australian dining experience. Located in a stunning position on the Brisbane River, the venue has an atmosphere of relaxed elegance inspired by the exquisite cuisine and the spectacular views. Perfect venue for private functions and special occasion. Owners, Brad and Angelica Jolly, have had a wealth of experience in restaurants in Australia and abroad. They are driven by a philosophy that incorporates the traditional values of exceptional service and the highest quality produce. They have consistently maintained Alchemy's commitment to quality. Voted Best Restaurant with the Brisbane Locales.

Lovely food, with lovely service and views. Managed to book a table here on Friday evening for dinners. Ordered duck spring roll for entree; I had quail for main and partner had salmon. All delicious. I had a cocktail as well and it was quite nice (grapefruit but not overly bitter like grapefruit usually is). We had dessert as well. Apple for me and fig for him. Yum! Quite pricy, but you’re paying for the view and service and food. I would return.

Went here for a Christmas Party was totally impressed location service and food were all top notch would be certainly be on my to do list next time I am back in Brisbane.

Had a fabulous night out here! The service was wonderful. The wine list was great and the food menu was even better, so many choices. I had the lamb main and it was fantastic! We both ended up having three courses and they were all delicious! The view was wonderful too. We will definitely be back!

We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday.<br/><br/>The location is perfect with a beautiful view of the river and story bridge. The service is excellent - friendly, polite and warming. The food we ordered King Prawn and Scallops as appetizers. We had Lemon Buttered Chicken and Beef Cheeks for mains then Pana Cotta and Rum soaked Baba, liquid nitrogen ice cream and chocolate ganache for dessert.<br/><br/>They are delicious. Very well presented and very impressed by the overall service.<br/><br/>Thumbs up for location and view<br/>Thumbs up for customer service<br/>Thumbs up for food quality and taste<br/><br/>Definitely recommend for anyone.

After much research, I chose Alchemy to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday. Family members came from Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast on my recommendation. I have no complaints at all about the food, but sadly the service was woeful. Our first drinks took thirty minutes to be served, the cutlery was placed incorrectly on the table, incorrect drinks were poured and plates were dirty. I was served a berry sorbet even when I explicitly mentioned my severe berry allergy. The wait staff's explanations of the wines were long-winded and hard to follow. One of our party was gluten intolerant and her meals were served several minutes after the others on most courses. I spoke to the manager early in the evening to express my disappointment and give them a chance to improve service but the inexperienced staff struggling with a full restaurant meant we left feeling unhappy and extremely let down by what should have been a very special family evening. Not good enough for a restaurant of this calibre.

Fantastic food and very friendly service. About a 15 minute wait between courses and a beautiful view. Heard about this place from friends and we thought we’d give it a try. We will be back!

Wow, I don't even know where to begin. We came here for my birthday on a Tuesday night. We had booked a seat with a view of the bridge and we were seated with a stunning view of the river.<br/>The staff were absolutely amazing the entire night. So kind and efficient. We were asked from the beginning what we were there for and I said it was my birthday. <br/>We first ordered two entrees which were the Canadian Scallops which had soften leeks on puff pastry, citrus salad and orange beurre blanc sauce. This was an incredible dish. The scallops were slightly sweet and soft. The leeks and the orange went so well with the scallops and every element on the plate was outstanding. <br/>The second entree we ordered was the Baked cheese soufflé which had roasted hazelnuts and spiced beetroot caramel. This was incredible. The soufflé was soft and fluffy and the beetroot and hazelnuts went so well with the cheese flavours. Could not fault either dish!!<br/><br/>For mains I ordered their special which was the mushroom risotto, and wow, I have never had a meal this amazing before. It was so fantastic. My Mum ordered the Lemon buttered chicken breast which had kettle sprouts, creamed potato and white wine jus. She said it was the most incredible piece of chicken ever. Didn't even need a knife to cut through it. <br/><br/>Soon after we had finished our mains, the waiter brought out a surprise dessert for me for my birthday. Didn't even ask for it and didn't even know they were going to give it to us. It was a plate with happy birthday written on it with a macaroon and chocolate and so many elements. It was a lovely surprise for my birthday and so nice of them. <br/><br/>Overall, this restaurant was outstanding, from their staff, views and of course, food. I have never tasted food like this before. The quality of the food was top notch and could not fault any aspect of the night. Thank you Alchemy for an amazing dining experience.

Delicious dinner and good wine. Visited for a function and was very pleased with all aspects of this restaurant. <br/><br/>The service was outstanding, and matched by the food quality. Delicious food delivered efficiently. Desserts were great! <br/><br/>Will come back for regular dining soon.
Alice Yin
The location is great that you can dine with the river view; the service is reasonable; but I find the quality of food rather average, and if take into account the price it's actually a bit disappointing though the presentation of food is nice.
Lachy
Great view! Delicious food! A little on the pricy side. I came here for a family dinner on a Friday and was very impressed! I ordered the beef cheeks which was a special on the night and were seriously tasty! Thick cubes of bacon which were scattered on the plate were a nice touch, the mash was silky smooth and the side of veggies including green olives was full of flavour! Unfortunately the prices were a little exorbitant.
DS
Other than the view I did not have a great experience here. Service was reasonable however not fine dining standard. We had the degustation and the wait staff didn't explain what the food items were as they were being delivered until I asked and the young waitress had to go and ask at the kitchen. And we weren't given a menu to reference. They did not top up the water and some staff members appears quite condescending especially when we went to pay. All that aside, the food was the biggest disappointment of the night. <br/>Item 1 - Whipped Goats Cheese with Zucchini Flowers and Truffle Honey. The zucchini flower is deep fried in tempura batter! The delicate flavour of the zucchini flower was completely lost. And it was drenched in oil. Bad start.<br/>Item 2 - Veal Tenderloin Carpaccio with Capers, French Beans and Lemon Tuna Dressing. This dish was delicate and quite tasty and was probably the best dish of the menu<br/>Item 3 - Prawn Dumplings with Garlic Ginger Chili and Black Vinegar Broth. It was nice but this is fine dining. The dumpling certainly wasn't extraordinary and not any better than the dumplings from your local dumpling house.<br/>Item 4 - I actually don't know what the official title of this dish was, but it consisted of 2 scallops surrounded by a thick orange purée and possibly a foie gras mousse. The flavours were all completely wrong here. Scallops were cooked well but couldn't taste the lovely delicate flavour with the intense richness of the foie gras and that thick purée (whatever it was).<br/>Item 5 - Lamb Loin with Roasted Parsnips, Spiced Lentils, Figs, and Braised Lamb Shoulder. Worst dish of the night. The lamb was bleeding when you cut into it...not very appetising. And there was a lot of fat on the lamb which was quite chewy. And the lentils and figs were an odd accompaniment. The dish overall was just not balanced.<br/>Item 6 - Dark Chocolate Bar with Caramelised Banana and Salted Peanut Butter Ice Cream. This was reasonable and probably comes close to being the only tasty meal on the menu along with the veal (item 2).<br/><br/>It was a pretty disappointing way to celebrate a birthday and to top it off, they charged for bread, which has been complimentary at every other fine dining establishment we have had the pleasure of dining at. There was also a surprise credit card surcharge which we were not aware of. You would think that most people would pay with their credit card especially when coming to fine dining like this. It was not a good menu and service was not up to standard. I would recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Atmosphere 2.5/5 - nice dining area, but the washrooms are impossible to find and are at the end of a utilitarian hallway. It felt like a public (gas station) washroom which disrupted any mood the dining room had set.<br/><br/>Service 4/5 - he was familiar with the drink lists and menus, but seemed eager to get us in and out quickly. <br/><br/>Food 3/5 - we both had the beef cheek, which was a daily special. It was satisfactory, but nothing new.<br/><br/>Overall 3/5. The entire meal felt quite rushed, which at $250 for two people wasn't appropriate... that said, everything else was satisfactory and I will definitely return.

Overall food was rather disappointing, quality was below par. I even found a broken plastic in my side pot of mushroom and kale (they offered refund and a fresh order which I'm not interested). My first fine dine with my partner in brisbane wasn't that fine after all.
Foodie
FOOD = 3.5<br/>SERVICE = 3.0<br/>AMBIENCE = 3.0<br/><br/>A fancy place and great views by the water. Rustic decor and feels like a fine dining place. The decor dosent match the whole feel entirely, seems out of place.<br/><br/>Fancy menu items and good choices without being too complicated. <br/><br/>Great looking dishes, plated well and decent serves, tasty, however lacking the oomph factor for a fine dining place.<br/><br/>The ingredients are there in their dishes however dont seem together well to give you that oomph. The kick in the flavour is lacking and flavours dont come together that well. Some dishes are done well, like the crab pasta and chicken. <br/><br/>The prices are a bit steep for the food they are serving. Expect more from the food for the prices they are charging.<br/><br/>A few events on this occasion (we were a big group).<br/><br/>They ran out of foie gras on this particular night.<br/><br/>The waiter was in a rush and trying to upsell more. Even after noting down allergies, served guests allergic items. One of the guests found a piece of plastic in the duck consomme, noted to the waiter and they just simply moved on as if nothing had happened. <br/><br/>Dint note cakage when advised we are bringing a cake (on phone booking) and slugged us an amount not worthy of the cakage service provided (apart from cutting the cake and presenting it is not a cakage service).<br/><br/>Overall, they are fancy with some items however fall short of fine dining, as this would be an overall experience, and they are either pitching above their true price point, or have dwindled in their performace as noted by other reviews.<br/>

Great recommendation by the waiter. <br/>Recommended one of the best wagyu dishes I've had. <br/>Tender and succulent. <br/>Vegetables were delicious too. <br/>It comes with a lovely sauce. <br/>Only downside was we ordered a birthday cake from another shop and this restaurant held it for us. <br/>They took longer to cut the cake and bring it out to us than it took for the mains to come out. <br/>They added a bit of mint to the cake and for the pleasure of that they charged $70 for the cake!!<br/>This was even more than my main course! <br/>They charged over $50 for bread but at least they supplied the bread.
Alice Nicholas
We went to the Alchemy to celebrate after our wedding. The wait staff were so lovely and we got a special dessert and beverage to celebrate!<br/>We had the degustation with matching wines. The wait staff described and discussed the wines with us and we're very well informed. Food was wonderful and all the flavours were well thought out. It is worth the money for a celebratory dinner, especially if you are usually a budget diner like me!
Yazmine.brown
Alchemy does flavour with oomph! The truffle chicken dish started my love for truffles and every visit since has not been disappointing. The dishes reflect a true understanding of flavours. The staff look after you and their advice on dishes has been spot on.

Everything was WOW the location , services & food <br/>The place was very warm & full of love <br/>The food was unbelievable <br/>Love everything there

It used to be one of my absolute favourite restaurants. Sadly for past couple of years it has not been up to my expectations - i went back several times to see if it comes back as i used to love this place but it did not change. <br/>I might try again in the future to see if the menus/maybe chefs? change back to as it was before.

I'm not sure if we just had an off night at Alchemy, but when you go to a 'fine dining' restaurant on your anniversary you have certain expectations. We've heard great things about this restaurant so chose to go on such a meaningful night. Unfortunately, things just weren't very good. <br/><br/>The tables and chairs don't seem to fit the high end nature of the restaurant, but the view makes up for it. The service was good, but nothing amazing. We weren't asked how our meals were... <br/><br/>So on to the food. For the prices being charged, it was just not up to scratch. Plating was underwhelming and we thought we could have done better ourselves. My lamb had a thick layer of un-rendered fat which didn't go down well. When it comes down to it, there are plenty of restaurants I'd go back to and recommend over this...
MissCharli
Visited this restaurant with its contemporary decor and special location by the river on a Friday night. Service from our initial drinks at the bar through to meal service was attentive, professional and friendly. <br/><br/>We decided to treat ourselves and ordered appetisers, entrees, mains and desserts and though we sunk into a food coma by the end of the night it was worth it. The food was both beautifully displayed and tasty. The only criticism would be the fat on the duck not being rendered enough as it was chewy rather than crunchy. <br/><br/>Though pricey, I have no problem paying for food of that quality, but I do always struggle to accept $17 glasses of wine. We left poorer but happier, and with full bellies and isn't that the intent in the first place?
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Mmmm...Braised Beef Cheeks!. Alchemy is one of my favorite restaurants in Brisbane and there is one reason - the Braised Beef Cheeks!<br/><br/>I've traveled all around the world and eaten everywhere from Michelin 3-Star restaurants to street vendors and have to say that Alchemy's beef cheeks are in the top five foods I've eaten anywhere. I've sampled them on at least a dozen different occasions and have never been disappointed.<br/><br/>It is a little pricey, but the food is amazing and the view - overlooking the Story Bridge and the Brisbane River - is one of the best in Brisbane.<br/><br/>I highly recommend this restaurant!
Tom Curney
Spectacular restaurant with beautiful views and an excellent menu. The oysters with miso were unbelievable and the liquid nitrogen dessert was fascinating. I can't wait to try more on the menu.
Milandro
First three courses were good but then the kitchen went into meltdown thanks to a large ramble getting served. Despite loads of staff on, at one point the whole restaurant had empty tables in front of them for 20 minutes and the dinner never really recovered and the whole meal lacked anything suggested by the name. <br/><br/>Real shame after a promising start and at almost $200 per head, something more should have been done to keep the diners happy, if not fed.
Oblique
One of Brisbane's best. Friendly, helpful and knowledgable staff who could not do enough to assist. They even threw in a few complimentary shots and some nitrogen cured delectables! For mains, I had the Angus cap which was to die for! Would seriously rival anything I've had at specialised steak restaurants. Salads were fresh and complimented each meal. Great cheeses and a reasonable spread of wines to select. In all, fantastic, and highly recommended.
Aoife
Beef cheek. It was one of the best things I have EVER eaten. The taste, the texture, the smell, it fell apart on the fork and was oozing with red wine deliciousness . <br/><br/>

Bar far and away the best restaurant in Brisbane. Lovely staff who really care about your experience and sensational food and wine. Thank you for a consistently wonderful experience.

After looking around for a decent degustation for our Anniversary, we settled for Alchemy. We were impressed from the moment we entered. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. Every dish on the 6 course degustation was well thought out and the complimenting wines we perfect. The service was outstanding with perfect timing between each course. <br/>They even gave us a 3rd dessert celebrating our anniversary complimentary. It was superb. We will return very soon to try the rest of the menu delights.

One of the best restaurants I have dined at in brisbane. The beef cheeks can not be beaten. Great location on the river and good service, if looking for a fine dining restaurant you can not go past alchemy.
Yumami
Try the beef cheeks! Melt in your mouth deliciousness. I also had the confit salmon and chocolate mousse dessert. Both great dishes! My friend had the swordfish which she didn't enjoy. Overall good dining experience with a lovely view of the story bridge.

One of my early fine dining conquests all those years ago and it did not disappoint and started my love affair with food.  We had a window seat looking out at the water and it was romantic to say the least!  The service was good and all the wait staff were friendly and had a smile on their face.  The two entree's, Grilled Quail with Glazed Onions, Corn Puree and Smoked Bacon Pop Corn and also Seared Scallops with Caramelized Red Wine Pear and Softened Leeks were better then the mains of Beef cheeks (very very tender) accompanied with button mushrooms and creamy mash and Porchetta stuffed with rosemary and , accompanied with baby carrots and leek mash.  The dessert I chose the nitrogen dipped dessert and I was very happy to try it and was pleasantly surprised by the tastes.

Looking onto the picturesque Brisbane River, Alchemy Restaurant is the perfect place to treat yourself for special occasions i.e. anniversaries and date nights! This was my first visit to Alchemy where I was a guest for the launch of their new Winter menu. For mains I would recommend the New England Lamb Loin with braised belly, roasted parsnip purée, black olive and lamb jus. The lamb was slightly under medium rare which is just a smidgen rarer than what I'd normally order but nonetheless was my pick of the dishes. After a tour of the pristine kitchen, it was clearly evident that these chefs take their work very seriously - it's comforting to know how the food you're eating is being prepared and where. The waiters also had a great knowledge of food and wine pairings.

I went here for a birthday dinner on Saturday night. My initial impression was really good, we had a fantastic table with a perfect view of the Storey Bridge. Our starters were both delicious. Things started to go down hill from here. We had ordered a bottle of wine and after initially pouring the waiter took the bottle away with him. No issue here if he had continued to top us up. But we were both finished our wine and water and could not catch anyone's eye to request a top up, eventually I had to go up to the bar and ask for our bottle of wine. Very unimpressed for a fine dining restaurant. I then had duck for my main and it was inedible. It was so tough I couldn't swallow it and you could clearly see the fat had not been rendered. No one came to check on us to see how our mains were so it wasn't until they were clearing our table they saw my duck uneaten. The waiter asked was it ok I told him it was too tough he offered to have it cooked some more but at that stage we had finished our dinner and it was too late. He never came back to apologise or offer me anything else. We ordered dessert to share which was tasty and they also brought out a dessert plate with happy birthday on it which was a really nice touch. When we went to pay they didn't charge us for the dessert. Again I was unimpressed with this, a $17 dessert doesn't equate to a $47 untouched main as compensation. Overall extremely disappointed given the great reviews I had read about this place. There was a wedding on at the same time so unfortunately it seems their attention was focused on that but a huge disappointment for a fine dining restaurant.

Visited Alchemy last week to attend a seminar. It was the second time to be there this year. Consistency of production keeps well. Although it was a set dinner with Chicken or Beef cheek for mains, I still found that they attract my taste bud. Chicken was tender and beef cheek was so soft that melted in my mouth. I recommend their vegetarian menu which was so amazing that I had it on my first visit. The negative is the service which is not as proficiency and sincere as the other fine dining restaurant like the next door neighbour "Esquire".
NeilTheWheel
Disappointing. They booked us in for 9pm sitting, were overly pressing when it came to taking our orders and after several visits back and forth to their cellar, didn't have the wine we selected. By the time we'd finished our main ~10:15pm, we were handed the menus and asked if we wanted dessert because the kitchen would be closing at 10:30pm. Meanwhile the wine was being topped up to the rim after every sip, obviously wanting to hurry us up!<br/><br/>It was a Saturday night, the restaurant was busy and extremely noisy. We felt hurried and not served well especially for the price that they charge. The food was mediocre at best and very poor value-for-money. We expected better for mains that exceeded $51! Furthermore, the menu lacked variety with no pork or poultry options.<br/><br/>Probably the least enjoyable anniversary night that we have celebrated. If you want a pleasant dining experience with top notch cuisine, I suggest Esquire, Urbane, Ecco or Anise to name a few...<br/><br/>It was the second and last time!<br/><br/>We do not recommend this restaurant if

Birthday Dinner. We went to Alchemy for my husband's birthday dinner, which was a special occasion of course, though also very much looked forward to as we now have a 7 month old baby, so the dinners are not as frequent. <br/><br/>I have found the service to be very good, I mentioned when booking that it was my husband's birthday and the made the whole experience very special, from every waiter/waitress wishing him a happy birthday, to giving us one of the best views and a complimentary 'happy birthday' dessert. Also, the food was great and a great selection of wine. <br/><br/>Would definitely come back!

Fantastic. We celebrated my Mother's 60th Birthday here and found the food and service absolutely fantastic. Although it is a little more expensive fine dining it was definitely well worth the money. The view is amazing aswell as the food.<br/>The scallop entrée was to die for. We were all extremely satisfied with our meals and definately could not fault the service. Will definitely return again and recommend to all my friends.

LOVE IT Best in Brisbane. What more can one say about a restaurant that hits the mark every time I dine with them. Service is friendly and efficient, Food is the best in Brisbane. From the beef Cheeks to the fish and not to mention the top quality in home made pasta. <br/>The views are exceptional. You will pay for the views, service and food. But then again I've eaten in other restaurants on the river front for the same price or more and without the quality.<br/>Anyway you would be crazy to read into anyone else's reviews. Try it yourself.

Average food at fine dining prices

Overpriced & nothing spectacular. My lovely husband took me to Alchemy for my birthday.<br/>The entree and main dish was average, luckily the dessert saved the night.<br/>My main was overcooked and I struggled to finish it. <br/>The meal left me with a bloated stomach for the night.<br/>Wil not be returning again.

Ice Ice Baby. If you have nothing else try the liquid nitrogen desserts, they started doing these long long ago before it was trendy and they still do it best hands down...and the dark and white chocolate parfait with peanut butter ice-cream.<br/><br/>The dinner at Alchemy restaurant was amazing, all the entrees and main packed flavour and make my taste buds dance. Each of the dishes were presented well and each serving size was very reasonable. The customer service was outstanding...and entertaining.

Love it. Even though is close to Christmas, we still manage to book it last minute to celebrate our early Christmas party for the two of us. We didn't request for a seat closest to the window, so we are happy that we got great seats when we arrived. Tried the degustation menu, that was amazing. Service was good, food was good, atmosphere was good.

Beautiful food. Wonderful service. Great view. Will definitely return!

Alchemy fails to deliver. Group of us had dinner at Alchemy. To say it was disappointing would be an understatement.<br/><br/>Cuisine: Modern Australian<br/>Service: Disappointing - slow, inattentive. No capability to deal with a problem<br/>Food: Amongst the group the view was varied the best that could be said was that it was adequate. Steak- tough and the restaurant would not take an order for medium rare (strange but true). Beef cheeks a bit dry and over salted.<br/>Value: Poor<br/>Ambience: The aircon was not working properly or if it was it was inadequate<br/>Glassware: Stemware is good.<br/>Wine list: Good but bordering on expensive. We chose some of the more expensive wines (see comment below)<br/>Offline Prospect: I wouldn't bother - see below.<br/><br/>Score: (optional): Very disappointing<br/><br/>The story:<br/>A group of us had dinner at Alchemy. The service was very poor and the number of wait staff were not enough to manage.<br/><br/>The real issue was with the wine: We ordered several wines over the evening. For one particular red (Rockford Basket Press) a second bottle was ordered. The wait staff didn't offer a taste nor did they offer clean glasses for the new bottle. I had not had a pour from the first bottle and so had a clean glass for the first pour of the second bottle. One sniff was enough to know straight away that it was badly corked. Then took 20 minutes to actually get the attention of wait staff. They declined to look at it and insisted on calling the manager. Another 10 minutes passed before the manager arrived. He denied that there was anything wrong with the wine explaining that it was a different vintage. No amount of discussion or persuasion would convince him otherwise. He declined to sniff or taste the wine saying that he didn't know anything about wine. Eventually after a somewhat heated discussion, he offered to consult the sommelier. Another 10 minutes later the manager returned (we never did get to speak to the sommelier) and confirmed that the wine was faulty.<br/><br/>So in all it took nearly 40 minutes to persuade a restaurant that they had served a corked wine.<br/><br/>And also: this is a restaurant that will willingly serve a faulty wine provided that their customers don't know any better. In my opinion this is not acceptable.<br/><br/>I subsequently contacted the restaurant and also Rockford by email. Rockford called me back and we had a very positive conversation - full marks to Rockford. Alchemy management/owner replied by email saying basically that I should suck it up.<br/><br/>I will not be returning to Alchemy and I would strongly discourage anyone else from doing so.

Highly recommend. Amazing food. Perfect service. Attention to detail. :-)

My husband and I had dinner here for our anniversary and we were really excited since we had heard great things. <br/><br/>We were so disappointed. Our zucchini flower starters tasted bland and oily. Our quail entree was actually the highlight - delicious. Sadly, the crab risotto was a sloppy buttery mess. The real lowlight came with the mains. The "signature" beef cheeks looked like a pub meal presentation wise which would be fine if it didn't taste so bad. The beef was a little burnt and generally lacked flavour. I couldn't eat it and left more than half. We also had the Dory which was a mishmash of flavours that just didn't work. <br/><br/>Service was pleasant but really in attentive and frustrating. <br/><br/>We didn't bother with dessert. <br/><br/>I expected a lot more especially for the price you pay here. <br/><br/>I will not be back.

Fantastic. Absolutely delicious food: we had a baked baby-bert (mini Camembert) with crackers and fruits for our entree, braised beef cheeks which just fell apart as soon as your fork touched them, with creamy mash and a red wine jus, and for dessert our waiter Tristan organised the liquid nitrogen nibbles, thanks Tristan! Outstanding service! Will definitely be back :-)

Fun...ish!. Lovely formal setting, albeit a bit to the prim and hushed side for my liking. Wouldn't kill the waiters to smile. Drinks were okay, not sensational and not strong (unfortunately). The food was yummy overall, the steaks cooked to perfection, the baked desserts fine other than the egg-y souffle. The nitrogen desserts at the end delivered in the "alchemy" respect, super fun, super delicious, and an impressive chef to chat to - although I expected more displays of alchemy.

Wonderful little place. Wonderful place to enjoy evening dinners with colleagues and not expected to have schoolies causing a chaos. The food and staff are always a delight.

One of my favourite restaurants - a great venue. Great food, pleasant staff, wonderful view of the Brisbane river combine to make a great night out.
Fortheloveoffood
Awesome restaurant. One of Brisbane's best restaurants for sure. Staff are always attentive, knowledgeable and professional. Food has been amazing every time. Highly recommend.

My partner and I had dinner here last night. I had been perusing the menu for weeks so was really disappointed to see it had changed to something not as interesting. We ordered the pork belly for entree which was lovely. For mains I had the chicken and my partner has the wagyu cap. My chicken was a bit disappointing, it was really dry and overcooked and lacked seasoning. But my partners steak was absolutely amazing; cooked perfectly with beautiful sides - he said it was the best dish he has ever had. Then for dessert I had the choc caramel marbre which was beautiful, and my partner had the buttermilk pannacotta. This was such a creative cleverly thought out dessert. I also found the service really lovely and attentive. I would deffinately return but wouldn't order the chicken again.

Myself and my boyfriend loved Alchemy! The service was outstanding and the food delicious! The liquid nitrogen dessert was so much fun and different to any other restaurant we have been to. We are both still drooling over that pork belly!!!!
Kate
I wanted to love this place! It has been in my wishlist for some time and we decided to go here for our anniversary. The wait staff were charming but the food just lacked any thought or cafe. There was no love. One or our mains (wagyu) was missing a crucial eliment, the other had unrendersd fat and was like chewing bullets. The panama cotta was lackluster. The staff were apologetic and offered a replacement. But nothing could make up for the lack of thought in the dishes, the lack of balance and the lack of executed skill. Many more places in Brisbane to the before coming back to alchemy...unfortunately.

Deception This restaurant.... Deception<br/><br/>This restaurant is so close to being great but the many small mistakes add up to a subpar experience.<br/><br/>The waiter took a very long time to grab a drinks order and had very little knowledge of the cocktail menu.<br/><br/>The stuffed courgettes we had for entree were drenched in oil and would not be out of place in a greasy pub menu. I could see the potential but it was poorly executed.<br/><br/>Things got worse with the main courses. My wife had what she describe as the tasteless and driest piece of chicken and a truffle puree without truffle. <br/><br/>I chose the gnocchi from the vegetarian menu and it came out looking like it had sat under the heating lights for a long time. The top of it was really dry while oil pooled on the surface , and it was badly presented.<br/><br/>In addition the bread was ok but not warm. <br/><br/>With the prices they charge for every plate I can only hope that they were having a really bad day. <br/>My wife and I will not go back to find out though, pubs have the same quality food for much less and a less cocky service.

I've eaten here several times and was quite underwhelmed. Menu lacks inspiration and never changes, dessert was the only high point in the meal on every occasion. <br/><br/>Tonight however, we turned up without a reservation. The restaurant was empty, and we were asked to sit at the bar while our table was made up...we ordered drinks and waited 20 minutes and not once were we told our table was ready or given any update at all. Eventually we got up and left after paying for our drinks. Truly abysmal service given that there were only 2 other diners. Needless to say we won't be back.
Yorkie_Traveller
Great Food. We booked here for an anniversary meal as it got good reviews and the menu sounded good too.<br/>We booked through the online booking process which was easy and caused no problems. We got a nice table with a view of story bridge, we weren’t outside but that was good as there was a chilly wind.<br/>Service was OK, we got a new waitress who was a little nervous and while she did an OK job I would have expected a little better from somewhere at this level.<br/>We managed to have three courses, each one was excellent, the star of the meal for me was the pork belly entrée. I’m not a massive fan of pork belly, but this was amazing!<br/>I would definitely return to Alchemy for another meal, especially if they did the pork belly as a main!

Not So Special. Booked two weeks prior, mentioning it was for a family special '0' birthday celebration ( mid week). The table given to us was at the back of the restaurant near the kitchen door where all staff had to pass, the noise from the kitchen made conversation difficult and the heat coming from the kitchen making it quite uncomfortable. Three times we asked to either change table or even move the table away from the service door, each time the wait staff needed to find and consult the manager to no avail. Our group ended up leaving, enjoying our special celebration at a restaurant further along the river. It seemed quite odd that the manager never came to the table to convey his message to us himself, even more so that he saw us get up and leave without bothering to come a give us his apology for not being able to help make this birthday special at Alchemy.

Food matches the views, spot on. Had a great meal here, on the river, 2 bottles and we were very happy customers. Good food, loved the beef, good wine, service was just right and we,d been paddle boarding on the river earlier, so we had an appetite. Will be back.
Plane_man747
Great!. The best Wagyu I have ever had! Friend also loved the Dory special.
Seba_betten
Brilliant. Was treated to a surprise birthday dinner here by my girlfriend and was blown away. The service was impeccable and the restaurant had a really nice atmosphere. <br/>I had the Beef Cheeks and she had the Wagyu Beef and both were to die for. The cheeks was so so tender and the beef was cooked to perfection medium-rare.<br/>A brilliant night out, and the best dining experience I have ever had.
LovesTheFood
Definitely worth going again!. Been here only a few times and will continue going. <br/>The food is amazing, never a long wait for the food. <br/>They do amazing cocktails, a wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails.<br/> The staff are always friendly and happy. Never had a problem with the staff, even a few staff seemed to remember my partner and myself when we arrived.<br/>I have tried a few different meals on the menu, and the beef cheeks seem to be my favourite.<br/>The deserts are amazing, so hard choosing which one I want to have. But so far, the tim tam and raspberry cheesecake is my favourite.<br/>You have an amazing view of the story bridge as well.

Customer Service Feedback. When enquiring about making a Christmas lunch booking I found the owner to be quite rude. The website outlined the costs for set meals for the entree and main to be priced at $55. When I contacted the restaurant I was told that there was a $20 increase over the Christmas period. When I pointed out to the owner that it should be stated on the website and could she please take my feedback into consideration. She spoke to me quite rudely and responded that the menu on the website is the current menu not the Christmas menu not acknowledging my point of view.<br/><br/>My team of 26 people and myself really wanted to eat there, the price was perfect, they were happy with the venue and the menu but after the customer service I experienced from the owner of the restaurant I will not consider eating there or taking my team there for a Christmas lunch in the future.

Always to a good standard. Everytime I eat at Alchemy, I am pleased with pretty much everything. Nothing here will ever blow me away completely but I am never disgruntled about handing over the money at the end. The location is clearly a draw-card, the service is always very strong and attentive and its a good old faithful. The beef cheeks are always a good choice paired with a great Shiraz from their extensive collection.
Lilchatabox88
Expensive but nice. Ordered the quail entree and the steak main- both were nice. Also had the nitrogenie dessert which was different. Expensive, but it was for a 21st dinner. Overall quite good

Remember the old days when paying top dollar meant getting top quality food?<br/><br/>Neither does this and any of the other eagle st pier restaurants.

Fabulous wedding anniversary dinner. Could not have asked for a better wedding anniversary dinner. Thank you Steph for making our night so special. Food fabulous and wait staff wonderful. Melt in the mouth beef cheeks, divine plump scallops. Special surprise macaroons with anniversary note was a lovely finish to the evening. Thank you Alchemy

Impressed. Excellent food, even better service. The white chocolate and anchovy stuffed olives are wild. Usually I don't care about service, but the staff were wonderful - makes you think why other establishments can't be the same...

Yummy. I really like this place! The ocean trout main was very yummy. My friend had the duck main and she said it was delicious. I was going to order the duck but I struggle with sweet fruit combined with savory dishes (it has grilled peaches as an accompaniment). So far I've only managed figs in that type of combo ....Anyway, the view is amazing at night (way too glary if you are sitting at the windows during the day so bring sunnies as a backup) and it is that type of place where you would go for a special occasion or as a treat. The service can be hit and miss but I've worked in hospitality during my uni days and can appreciate how hard it is to hire and maintain excellent staff (I was a hopeless waitress but the restaurant I worked at still kept me on! :P)

Gorgeous. Everything was just melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Even the butter on the bread had a little something etc. Great wine list too - all the classy favourites. Can't wait to return (it's been too long!).

Disappointed. Wine list not accurate 2011 fat flabby chardy not 2010 as listed..<br/>Burnt sea bass.. "That's how its cooked"<br/>Simple penne pasta ??? Was it out of a bottle<br/>Soufflé lacking in flavour or texture.<br/>Service thought this was Ok at an exorbitant price

We had an amazing experience at this restaurant, the food was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and helpful, we also had the liquid nitrogen desert which was so much fun and really tasty!!! Definatly 5 stars!!

Excellent food and exceptional service. I had guests from sydney who were impressed with both the food and the service. We were late and had to leave early and the time of meals being served was perfect. We had the specials and they were outstanding. Very impressef

An absolute delight, service was amazing and my waiter was cheeky and fun. I had the scallops as my entre and the beef cheeks as my main both superbly cooked 5/5

Definitely one of the best restaurants in Brisbane. The views are amazing, unbeatable service and the food and variety would have to challenge the best around. Highly recommend Alchemy.
Lovefood
Simply perfect. I disagree with the comments about Alchemy being over priced. Yes, it's up there but you should consider what it takes to run a restaurant in the CBD. High riverside rents, above average wages for good staff and quality produce. If you don't own a business, or understand economics 101, stick to reviewing fast food chains. Back to my recent experience.<br/><br/>Took my man to Alchemy for his birthday and from the moment we arrived, we had courteous service from friendly staff. We had a great table overlooking the Brisbane River with lights dancing across the river from the Story Bridge. It was the second time we've dined at Alchemy and it definitely won't be our last. Oysters Kilpatrick were superb. The best I've ever had. My man had the beef cheeks and still can't stop talking about them. The duck breast was moist and full of flavour. Then, we were completely surprised with a little tasting plate of macaroons and a chocolate message wishing my fella Happy Birthday. That was so special and I'd only mentioned that it was his birthday to the person who took my booking and had not asked for anything special. Special it was! As we were leaving, chef Adam stopped us at the door for an impromptu taste of his proud new creation, the 'Liquid Nitro Gastro Nibbles'. He froze teaspoons of dessert creams flavoured with fruits and coffee into crunchy, cold candy for us to try, including one that tasted just like the strawberry ice creams at the Ekka. We will be back.

A nice pleasant evening with good service - but.... For 100 per head on a normal night u want more than pleasant - I don't think it really stacks up against others in this price range would definitely choose Montrachet over this or if u are in the city restaurant 2
Urbanchowboy
Ho hum. This place serves up some okay food - the chefs are clearly ambitious and not without talent, but are over complicating some meals and under-doing others. Entrees closing in on 1 Michelin starred prices, but fall well short of the expectations those prices engender. It's all well prepared, but nothing truly innovative or inspiring here. Flavour combinations on the Duck and Barramundi mains are just wrong, and spoil otherwise potentially fine dishes. Deserts are probably the strong point on the menu. It all wouldn't really matter except that the food is so horrendously, f***ing over-priced. The river views scream fine dining, but really - who gives a s**t . Simplify the flavours, move to a lower rent locale, price the menu reasonably. Fine dining pretensions be damned.

Great location!. Amazing views of the river and Story Bridge. Lovely food. Attentive and accommodating waitstaff. Great cocktails and wine list. What more?

I've been to Alchemy three times in the last month, all for work. Each time has been great, but last night when we stepped outside for the retirement dinner farewell speeches (would have been distracting for the other restaurant diners) they brought our desserts to the inside table. As they are want to do, the speeches took longer than planned, so the staff removed the served soufflés from the table as they had lost their puff and re-served new ones at no cost. Marvellous, intuitive and professional service. I'll be going back !

Basics need refining. My partner took me to Alchemy for a special treat. We were expecting a lovely experience, not to mention pricey. However, we left we a much heavier wallet after the chef (after originally saying that cooking the may well done would be fine) sent it out rare. After sending it back once it returned medium rare. I gave up and ordered an alternative meal. The desert was provided for free and rightly so only charged for the fish. This chef has cost his business on one table one main, one desert, we left early and didn't order the extra bottle of wine or cocktails, and any pleasant reviews as they refused to cook a small piece of meat well done. Not sure what the issue is to cook meat this way as a paying customer I expect that if they agree to it they will cook it as such, one does not expect to pick up a black car if they asked the painter to paint it white just because they don't like your choice. Won't be returning.
Colminer
Took my partner here for dinner fri 16th Nov. Not impressed. To be fair the service staff were good and my meal was quite tasty even if it looked like a kitchen hand presented it. My partner ordered the lamb, before ordering we specifically asked if they could do it well done, emphasising the "well". We were told this was fine. Her meal came out and while I like med rare bordering rare even I would have sent this back. When the meal was returned a second time the meat had graduated all the way from rare to medium rare. At this rate we were going to be there all night before the "chef" if they can be called such, got it right. She gave up and ordered something else. We decided to stay for dessert which was ok. However not only did the poor food make us leave much quicker (probably $200 of wine quicker), I will never reccomend the place. Don't bother with going here, it is overpriced banking on its location rather than good food. Far from fine dining.
Catsdoorman
Good not great. Location is excellent althogh we were no where near river views stuck up back near wine cellar, which we had them open the doors to cool us down. bit warm in there. meals were great. serise was very lacking a few of waitresses didnt really know the menu. and had no idea about drinks. we aresked for a cointreau and lemonade and was asked "is that a beer" !!!!. overall nice but over priced for what we got as an experience overall.<br/><br/>may go again

Great experience. We dined here last night and had a fantastic experience. Wait staff were professional and curteous and the meal was lovely. We had a wonderful table overlooking the bridge. Having dined at all of Brisbane's high end restaurants, I definitely think this is one of the best. We will be going back.
Nomnomnom
Headed out on the weekend for a special dinner however the wait staff seemed offstandish and especially the guy manager. Very rude when we wanted a few more moments deciding on our drinks and looked impatient. Food was low below what we had read in reviews. Pity I was looking forward to something spectacular, not sure how this place gets high reviews. Must be one if those places that get a hit and miss. Unfortunately I say we were dining on the 'miss' nights. I'm sorry I wouldn't recommend this place to any friends or family. It was a huge disappointment, spend your money elsewhere with better food and especially service.
Red Raspberry
One of the staff stuffed up our reservation... So Casey decided it was apt to yell (yes YELL) at the entire table, ruining a special night for us, and interrupting tables surrounding us. Talk guy. Small man.<br/>On food: price is about double what I would expect to pay elsewhere. Didn't bother trying the chef's special, but others at the table were a tad disappointed. Serving sizes were smaller than expected (especially for the price)<br/>Not sure why, but only one table had a tablecloth. <br/>Atmosphere could be improved. Kitchen and other diners were loud, felt swished in and on top of others. A tablecloth would have been nice.
Realgoodcook
Worst place ever. Worst restaurant ever. You would not expect from a restaurant like this to have staff who yells and blames his customers for their own communication problem. Will never come back to this restaurant again. Don't go there, you will be very disappointed by the quality of service for the amount you are paying.
BSZL
Food very nice, great location, service lacking. This place charges as much as the best restaurants in Sydney, but service is way off for this price. Left waiting for drinks / pour your own, mixing tap water with sparkling, not knowing the menu, not understanding the ingredients ie broccolini globe with artichoke and white wine juice?? Could be so much better with the right staff / training.
Yanna Lai
Food romance. Take a nice evening stroll along the Brisbane River and you'll come across the gem of a restaurant. The staff were prompt, friendly and professional. Starting off with Kilpatrick Oysters and Quail for the entree got the juices flowing for more. The Chef's special Beef Cheeks broke like butter whilst the Ocean Trout was delicately soft and creamy to match the accompanying crisp Crab Cake. The souffle nailed the finale. Overall, a delightful and memorable dining experience, well worth the time and money.
V...
Lovely for a special night out. The location is amazing, right near the eagle street dining precinct yet a little out of the way. The food was terrific! I loved the complementary entree and thought it was a lovely touch. The desserts were a stand out - interesting and very tasty. The duck was cooked to perfection and the steak was very good. The accompaniments were perfect. We ordered some sides and my only complaint was that the fries were over seasoned - tasted a lot like nandos! <br/><br/>I found the wine list a little uninspired and overpriced. For a venue of this calibre I would have thought they would have an incredible sommelier. I hate paying three times the prices for a bottle of wine I can buy any night of the week from my local bottle shop. As well as not having a particularly extensive selection, a number of the spirits were out of stock. at least this resulted in a free drink! My other complaint would be that our wine and water glasses were slow to be refilled. <br/><br/>I would eat at Alchemy again!
Steve N
Alchemy definitely delivers on the hype. Great place to go on a date or a special dinner. Staff was excellent as was the decor of the restaurant itself. The food was delicious. Top marks for presentation and taste. The liquid nitrogen desserts were a fun little suprise. Well worth a visit.
George
Professional, classy and unique. Well done. Great location with fantastic views. Not too expensive in fact very reasonable. Only a little more pricey than suburban steak pub but light years ahead in quality. Recommend.

This is our most favourite restaurant in qld maybe australia<br/><br/>there is nothing wrong with this place<br/><br/>nothing bad to say <br/><br/>100 out of 100

Fantastic. Is it not funny how different people enjoy things differently. It goes to show you that all reviews are a matter of personal opinion. I make note of the Beef Cheeks I love them and understand the amount of work that goes into this dish. I read reviews that say they were pub food. Good luck at finding this dish in a pub. <br/>Food and Service fantastic. All those who think this restaurant is no good stick to the pubs and give us the opportunity to get into this restaurant that is always fully booked. <br/>All those who think it's expensive. Obviously don't eat out much and stick to local cafes where paying $18 for a sandwich seems ok?? Go figure. These places pay lot's of money for chefs, waitstaff, rent and everything else to give you a wonderful expererience and you think it's too expensive. Judging by other reviews written by those who complained you can see where they normally eat and understand that your opnion as a reviewer does not count.

I was extremely disappointed to see Alchemy listed as one of Brisbane's best restaurants in today's Weekdnd Australian. Alchemy was recommended to us as an ideal destination for our first anniversary, and what a disappointing way to celebrate! Being under 30, we were given a critical eye until we ordered a $200 bottle of Champagne, which apparently gave us the credibility to not be treated as second class citizens. Our entrees were the highlight - my seafood was fresh and delicious - but unfortunately things went downhill from there. The famous beef cheeks were served like a pub meal, slapped together in an uninspired mess in the plate with some mashed potato. This would have been fine, except the flavor was as unrefined as the presentation. Then came dessert. Where do I begin? My apple and blueberry tart looked amazing, but what an epic failure of a dish! The pastry was undercooked, and far too thick - leaving barely any room for the filling, which I might have enjoyed if there'd been more than a tablespoonful of it. It was so unappetizing I had to leave it half uneaten. With the total bill well over $400, we were left wishing we'd gone anywhere but Alchemy. There are so many amazing restaurants in Brisbane that don't cost the earth. The lesson? A high price tag does not always equal high quality. Sorry, Alchemy, we won't be back for seconds.

Modern Australian. Beautiful/ elegant atmosphere. Lovely views. Been a few times and always enjoyed it but wasn't happy with my last meal - lamb was over salted/ seasoned almost inedible which was a shame. Always good service overall good restaurant but not sure if I would go again

Nice enough. Nice surroundings but found the service lacked a little and the food was slightly run of the mill for the price.

Excellent Food, Service & Views!!<br/>My husband and I had a really romantic dinner here. The food and service were exceptional... I would recommend & go back !! Do not take notice of any bad reviews .. This is an exceptional restaurant !!!

No complaints, but no raves, great setting and position, good food, lil expensive for food style. My partner liked it more than me so probably just my taste that wasn't completely appeased.

Stupendous service. We dined at Alchemy last night for my partner's birthday, and could not fault the place. The service was extremely attentive and we felt incredibly well looked after. The food was stunning and the presentation was impressive. Not to mention the views.<br/><br/>I would definitely go back for another fine dining experience. Can't say enough good things about our dinner. Very delicious food and excellent staff!

I don't quite get the good reviews. My husband and I went here for a romantic night out. The view is lovely and the staff were pleasant but the food was disappointing. We were increadibly disappointed.
Roaming Diner
Fantastic Venu. We have now been to Alchemy Restaurant 3 times and every single time, Ed the Restaurant Manager has not only remembered our names but have also ensured his wonderful team look after us. The service is always spot on and the food is magnificent. There needs to be more venues like this in Brisbane in which the staff seamlessly know what is on the menu and how it is prepared etc. Good Job guys!

OH the Disappontment. My daughter had purchased a gift certificate for my Christmas present. Voucher due to expire this week, we finally had the opportunity to dine. Service excellent, was hoping to enjoy the Crab souflee that my daughter said was to die for but obviously a change in season meant this was not on the menu however the Delicious Prawn Ravioli and husbands Scalllops were to die for. Service was incredibly quick so almost no time to digest (if you had paid a babysitter by the hour - this is the place for you), Food brought out without delay - really nothing to complain about here. Sadly my choicie of the veal was so tough I almost had to ask the (clearly) sporting team on the next table to help me pull it apart! In 3o years I have never sent a meal back to the kitchen (probably because I was scared of what the chef may do ), Service however was excellent, Mandarin Souflee - seriously to die for - but mains a real disappointment. Gorgeous view and truly lovely and passionate staff but not unfortunately food not good enough to make us return.

Can I come back every week for the crab souffle. Alchemy was a destination that my husband and I had always wanted to visit, and finally on our 2nd Wedding Anniversary we did. For us it was a truly memorable evening as we had a table overlooking the river towards the Story Bridge (the proposal location). Lovely wait staff and attentive service made the night. I started with the Crab Souffle in a Crab Bisque - husband was very jealous but still thoroughly enjoyed his entree of the pork croquette. Both our mains were lovely and although we were tempted by the fabulous sounding specials we (eventually) stuck with our first options - me the Spatchcock and husband the Veal Loin with mustard brioche crumble. Might not be able to come back every week but definitely will return and recommend at every occasion.

Good food, poor bar staff. I had dinner here tonight. The food was fantastic but I wouldn't bother having a drink at the bar. The waiter was really arrogant. I purchased a bourbon and a champagne ($26) and he accidentally short changed me. When I questioned my change he slapped my receipt down on the bar and walked away. He had accidentally dropped a $5 note between the till and I, hence the short change. Only when I questioned my change for a second time did another bar attendant pay attention and see my change on the floor. The barman who made the mistake did not apologise, but made a lame excuse that he "had oil on his hands"! Gross.

My wife and I dined at Alchemy on Saturday the 15th of April. We both ordered a day special with frites and mushrooms as side dishes. Both dishes were rather tasteless, except maybe for the bacon used to flavour my beef, which was way too salty and made a particularity bad combination with the beef. Veggies or herbs were nowhere to be found. The fries were tasteless, but the mushrooms were ok. The presentation of the dishes was not good. My beef was accompanied with something tasteless looking like mashed potatoes of which the shaped reminded me of unpleasant things. Interestingly nobody asked if we enjoyed our meal, despite leaving most of it on the plates and not ordering desert. We just couldn't bother anymore. In short: don't go, you will be disappointed about everything except the bill.

Amazing food and views. One of the finest restaurants in Brisbane with dazzling views of the Brisbane River and Storey Bridge.<br/><br/>One of their signature dishes - beef cheeks - are to die for melt in your mouth experience.<br/><br/>The dessert "bombs" are also an experience - a trip to the kitchen for a chemistry show!<br/><br/>Extensive wine menu.<br/><br/>Service excellent and attentive.<br/><br/>Would I return? yes - as always

Valentines tick of approval. Recently went to Alchemy for Valentines and thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the set menu. <br/><br/>View was fantastic and service was top-notch. Scallops for entree, wagyu and duck for mains were also faultless. The highlight for me was the Chocolate Marbre dessert which I believe is one of their specialities. Drinks are a little pricey, but no more than to be expected of a five-star restaurant. Was surprised at the tiny cocktail menu (five or so only) but enjoyed the recommended wine.<br/><br/>Have recommended it twice since and both couples have enjoyed it just as much as we did. One couple went on a rainy evening when the doors were closed and said the ambience was a little diminished, but the quality of the dishes definitely made up for it.

Fantasitic. Wife and I dined here just before christmas last year and were blown away! The food was out there but the chef obviously knows food. Service was way out of this world. Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and this certainly was worth it! A great place for a special occasion. Views of the bridge and river at night out of this world. Will have to try the food and views during the day.
Tired Old Chef
Great food, great service this place has all bases covered and Angelina is so warm and runs the most professional team in Brisbane , absolutely flawless.

Fine dining. Last minute booking accepted by a charming man on the phone. Food was incredible, to many to choose from. Tried the scientific dessert. Blew our minds. Well worth what we paid. Will come back again to try other mouth watering delights on the menu. Only down fall, foreign waitress that could speak very good English, and wasn't as attentive as she could've been.

Very Nice & good view. Wonderful food, a very helpful and engaging waiter,<br/>had beef cheeks with mash for a main and the wine list was excellent.<br/>I like NZ white wines so that made the dinner really nice.<br/>I was disappointed with the birthday dessert that I ordered over the phone (4 days ahead) that they did not seem to know anything about. I even spoke with the manager who seemed very helpful. The chef was not aware of this request. It was a 40th so I was disappointed. The meals were quickly served and the wine was poured on most occasions. However when we asked for the bill we had a few glasses left. The sparkling water is Voss $12 and the wines range from $30 - $200. Meals around $32 - $45. <br/>Overall its the best experience I have had in 5 star place in a long time.

This blew my socks off. I have not been to a casual fine dining restaurant for a while that has gotten entrees, Mains and desserts all so right! I had the crab souffle, deboned spatchcock, and orange souffle. All three were amazing! I went there at 9pm as a single diner and was happily accomodated anf the waitress there made me feel very welcome...things could've gotten awkward due to the romantic atmosphere. I wasn't kept waiting very long for my entree and Mains, but its possibly because I was there so late and everyone else were onto dessert. I was initially a bit hesitant with ordering the orange souffle as it was 10pm and it was kitchen closing time for a Wednesday night but they told me don't worry about it "if you want souffle you have to have souffle and it will be worth the wait". And it was! It is a must! A visit to Brisbane must be accompanied by a visit to Alchemy!

Mrs. Wow what a spot. Everything was excellent. I enjoyed every bit of the meal. For all who says its pricey!!! Get real! The prices match the food, Staff, Riddle glass ware and the views. You can't get this for free or for $25 mains!!!<br/>Well done Alchemy I'll be back!
Janet
Magical. Wonderful experience! My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here last Saturday. The food, service and view were exceptional. A bit pricey but worth it. Only gripe was a large rowdy table but even that couldn't spoil the evening.

Service was great, waiter was polite, knew menus, wine list, and gave us a great recommendation for the souffle starter. Food great, as expected for the price. We went on a busy night, but didn't seem to affect quality of service or food. Great place, great ambience and view.

I've been a few times now and it's been great every time. The view is beautiful and staff are friendly and professional. Everything I've tried on the menu has been delicious

Good, but with some disappointments. We went to this restaurant with some high expectations. The ambience was excellent, service great and the menu looked fantastic. The food was of good quality, but the serving sizes were very small. Being aware of this potential in 'fine dining' restaurants (seemingly an attempt to engage in conspicuous consumption), we were still surprised at the quantity offered. Left feeling quite hungry despite three courses; something never really experienced before!

Outstanding service, excellent food, brilliance. My boyfriend and I came here not knowing what to expect and we were pleasantly surprised. Its a wonderful place to dine and we'll definitely be going back again.

Disappointing to say the least. Starters were an absolute joke. Main meal was not substantial at all. Left feeling hungry. Had to buy take out after this. Not worth it!!!

This was just lovely. Delicious food, great view and service was excellent and friendly. We'll definitely return!

Delightfully fine. Our waiters were cheerful and attentive, even a little bit fun and cheeky, making jokes with the table which made you feel very welcome. When booking I had asked for a table near the river and we were given the perfect one with the Story Bridge perfectly framed in the background and glistening river below (a slight hiccup when I phoned to inform the restaurant that I would be 20 minutes late and they couldn't find by booking which made me a little stressed but after repeating the booking name 5 times they found it!). Our red shallot oysters were delightfully fresh and tasty (they should have been detached from the shells as they were hard to remove with the topping). Our mains were all fantastic (a tad cold for my liking). The steaks were cooked perfectly as ordered, the duck was perfect but the real show stopper of the night was the special of the night, the beef cheeks. The meat was succulent and melted in our mouth with incredible flavourings - a very large serve too. The champagne list is also worth a mention with glorious varieties of french champagnes and high end sparklings. Our glasses were never empty with efficient service. Onto desserts, we had the lime cheesecake, pan fried apple pie and chocolate pudding. Each was presented well, with the cheesecake being the real stand out with both presentation and taste. I definitely recommend this restaurant for a special dinner, it really is special.

There was a lot of hype around Alchemy and so when we decided to head out for my birthday dinner, we were expecting a lot. Highlights would definitely be the glazed pork belly and scallops. The lamb loin was ok but had far too much going on on the plate to differenciate flavour combinations. The braised beef cheeks was soso, recommended by a friend of ours as well. However, it didnt seem like anything too complex - nothing that a slow cooker couldnt match at home. Overall we were a bit underwhelmed by the food at Alchemy. Perhaps all the hype and recent fine dining in melbourne had altered what could have been a good experience. I still would like to head back one day to try a different seasonal menu

Best Restaurant in Brisbane.. After reading the reviews I was worried my expectations would be too high and they would be let down but boy was I wrong. This would have to be the best dining experience I have ever had. Fabulous Service, check. Amazing decor and views, check. Friendly staff, check. Value for money, check. Delicious food, check. Great atmosphere, check. Amazing experiences, check. Complimentary bread and starter, check. I seriously cannot fault it. Oh and if you go- I recommend the Marbe for dessert, and the Nitrogen bomb experience is a must!

Excellent. First-rate service, excellent food, great location, fair prices, without the 'look-at-me' wank-factor of Aria.

Romance is in the air. A very intimate and clean dining experience, my husband and i thoroughly enjoyed every part of our evening here, we dined early and we found that the location of this restaurant was beautiful and very romantic, the service was very clean and minimal which we enjoyed for the night as we had been traveling for the whole day, great wines and delicious meals, unfortunately for us it was a brief experience but i would recommend for any couple on a special occasion to dine here.. thank you
Dightster
Tres bien. Nothing was too hard for the waiter, nothing was too hard for the chef who did my beed cheek just the way I told him to do it. Even the owner/manager was polite and courteous when we gave her some advice about the decor. Love it baby.

Amazing. A beatuiful meal, with excellent service. I couldn't recommend the place more highly! For your next special occasion, or any occasion that is your life, celebrate with a meal here. mmmm Beef Cheeks!

Not my cup of tea. The food was to over worked. IM all for doing something cool to food. But sometimes it just doesnt work. better luck next time maybe. I have heard some good things.

Disappointing. Having looked forward to Alchemy for some time we were VERY DISAPPOINTED. Inattentive service - a waiter who just didn't seem to care - combined with food that was good but not brilliant - maybe it was a busy pre-Christmas night, but we left wishing we had chosen somewhere else.

Alchemy. Dined here with friends recently. Great views over the river, lovely space, even with low ceilings the noise was manageable. Bar tucked neatly away to one side was nice for pre dinnner drinks.<br/>Service was good without being encroaching.<br/>Entrees: Quali was delicious & Pork belly sublime. The rissotto with Chorizo foam was a bit confronting, loved the risotto but not so taken with the chorizo. the Goats cheese and beetroot was beautifully presented but I wanted more that the 4 small bites!!.<br/>Main courses came within a good time frame and wine service was great as well.<br/>Steak was a hit with diner 1, and the chicken with diners 2 & 3. Beef cheeks were beautifully cooked, with lovely deep flavour but should have orderd something else as more in the mood for spectacular.<br/>Watched the liquid nitrogen desserts being prepared but were all too full to eat any more.<br/>Overall a very pleasant expreience and recommended highly.
Anne
Just Perfect. I recently had dinner at Alchemy and it was the best food I've had in Brisbane in a long time. The staff are wonderful and I can't complain about anything. I sometimes wonder if the people who don't like this restaurant should stick to Mcdonalds. This way we are always get a table.

Very nice....good service and very creative menu

Modern and trendy. Friendly service and very nice food. Try the beef cheek and nitrogen bombs for dessert.

Lovely!. I was unexpectedly entertaining out of town colleagues and so called Alchemy at the last minute, expecting to hear a 'sorry ...'<br/><br/>But no, although they were clearly full, we were welcomed and sat at the bar while a table was arranged. The bar area is a nice and we were well attended to.<br/><br/>Service was a little over enthusiastic however very competent. Great choices on the menu and all of my party commented on how much they enjoyed their meals.<br/><br/>Wouldn't hesitate to take anyone there again. Highly recommend if you need to impress.

Fantastic location and atmosphere, outstanding service and a divine selection of delicious dishes and beverages. A remarkable night out in Brisbane.

Excellent. I took a group of six for a business lunch and found alchemy to be great. My lamb loin was sublime, perfectly cooked. The service was a little busy but friendly and efficent. Alchemy was not cheap fortunately it was on works tab.

Fantastic. Outstanding menu and attentive service. The beef cheek is a standout.

Unforgettable. I have been to Alchemy 3 times in the last year and every time I have been impressed. The staff and knowledgeable and well versed in their product from food to matching wines.<br/><br/>Will be making this a regular haunt.

The dinner at Alchemy restaurant was amazing. Each of the dishes were presented well and each serving size was very reasonable. The customer service was outstanding…and entertaining. The flavours are etched on my taste buds forever...

... an instant hit with everyone around the table. The creamy goats cheese was particularly flavoursome and nicely balanced the honey and truffle.

We were fortunate enough to dine at Alchemy Restaurant and Bar over the weekend, overlooking the beautiful Brisbane River and Story Bridge. The service and food was absolutely incredible and we were very impressed with the menu! Take a look at some of the delicious dishes we devoured below. After having heard numerous raving reviews, we were not disappointed! Alchemy is the perfect place to take that special someone so make sure you visit! The crispy courgette flowers were delightful. The use of honey was a stroke of genius and this is the first time I’ve seen it used in a dish of this kind.

Alchemy Brisbane http://www.alchemyrestaurant.com.au 175 Eagle St Brisbane 4000 I thought alchemy would be a good setting to celebrate a special occasion considering its location and quality food.  What is better than views of the Brisbane river and the Story Bridge at night? We booked an early seating to beat the larger groups and to get our food in a timely manner. I ordered the seared scallops with cucumber salad and a few oysters to start with and my other half ordered the risotto with lemon and crab. The scallops were large and cooked to perfection and matched the cucumber salad and citrus dressing adding an extra dimension of acidity that is great with seafood. The risotto was quite large for an entrée but was very tasty, the rice was cooked to perfection and was not gluggy which you find with overcooked risotto.  The risotto has to be one of the best I have tasted in Brisbane for a long time. So if you love risotto this is a must try. For the mains we chose the house specialty o
The Napoli Alert
After a very pleasant meal at Alchemy in the Brisbane CBD overlooking the river, the waiter comes by to offer us dessert. We are comfortably full and decline.  And he suggests, would you like to try some of our liquid nitrogen snacks, they are a small treat? This sounds interesting and we take him up on the offer. We accompany him to a separate section of the restaurant, where, donned with gloves, one of the staff picks up a mother of tank of liquid nitrogen and pours it into a bowl. First, there is a honeycomb.  It goes into the nitrogen for 20-30 seconds then is served to us on a little tray.  Its crunchy and delicious, and eating it is hilarious, we have smoke coming out of our ears, mouth and nose and can’t stop laughing. Next is a chocolate tiramisu mouse.  The mouse is sprayed into the bowl from a dispenser, and quickly turns into a frozen delicious ball. But my favourite is an mascarpone orange mousse with Grand Manier (which I adore in desserts). For $8, it was good fun enterta

I left Alchemy Restaurant and Bar with a very full stomach and very happy feeling. Obviously, the highlight of the night was its nitro bomb and the beautiful display of craftsmanship.

The stunning presentation continued with the stark contrast of the Hervey Bay scallops, crushed peas, goats cheese and lemon dressing. I loved the freshness of the dish that saw two perfectly seared scallops sitting atop crushed peas and broad beans. To finish the look, a circle of pea puree surrounded the scallops and added some symmetry to the plate. The plump scallops were sweet yet combined perfectly with the equally sweet peas and slightly bitter broad beans.

Here is, as promised, a review of last night’s fine dining dinner date at Alchemy Restaurant & Bar. It was the bf and my previous number 1 dining experience (tied with Aria) and we were not let down the second time- that’s for sure
A Matter Of Taste
Alchemy Restaurant Bar is one of the beautifully situated Brisbane restaurants – right by the river, with views of  the Story Bridge. Being around for 7 years, it’s well known to amateurs of innovative fine dining.  I read many positive reviews and been teased by photos of picture-perfect dishes and been wanting to visit for a long time. It wasn’t until last Thursday, I finally had a chance to do it. Together with a group of fellow foodies, we sampled a selection of dishes, paired with wines, from the autumn menu. After a quick read through the menu, I wasn’t sure if I would like it: Noosa Hinterland Crispy Courgette Flowers with Herbed Goats Cheese and Truffled Honey | NV Canaletto Prosecco – Italy  Tasmanian Salmon Ceviche with Citrus, Glazed Beetroot, Horseradish and White Chocolate Crumble | 2012 Sirromet Verdelho – Granite Belt  Hervey Bay Scallops with Crushed Peas, Goats Cheese and Lemon Dressing | 2012 Henpecked Sauvignon Blanc – Margaret River  Northern Rivers Pork Belly with

Dolce Bunnie
Dazzling view of the BNE river and the Story Bridge while you wine and dine at this well situated restaurant created by owners Brad and Angelica Jolly. We ordered seared scallops with vine ripened tomato dressing, toasted brioche and basil jelly ($27) for entree, Duck Breast with Spiced Bok Choy, Pears, Sautéed Potatoes, Confit Garlic and Red Wine Sauce ($42) and their special of the night, slow cooked beef cheeks with creamed potato for mains. Mmmm, the scallops were so delicately cooked and the beef cheeks were juicy and soft, it felt like they were literally melting in your mouth. Dessert selection is always hard for me, but we ha

Alchemy has a contemporary feel with warm chestnut wood tones, highlights in red and a charmingly dispersed polycarbonate pieces, which immediately sets you at ease.
Brisbane Devoured
I decided to go for a more interesting option of souffle of caramelised spiced apple with brown butter and raisin icecream..... a creme anglais was poured straight into the souffle at the table. The souffle was light and divine. The brown butter icecream was unfortunately quite gritty and I wished it was more smooth and creamy, although the flavour was really nice. The dessert was very warming and wintery, so I imagine it might be removed from the menu when the warmer weather kicks in.

We liked Alchemy. Service was good. I'm finding it harder and harder to be impressed at fine dining restaurants but this was definitely better than most I've tried. The desserts were more exciting to me than the other food and I'd love to go back to try some of their others.

The highlights are the scallops with foie gras and Jerusalem artichoke foam, perfectly cooked nice balance, the artichoke foam was lovely...

A huge selection of modern Australian food, solid wine list, unique liquid nitrogen desserts and a super view out over the Brisbane river.

Alchemy Restaurant and Bar overlooks the Brisbane river and summer months meant the glass panels are open to the Story Bridge. The waiters are extremely attentive and charmingly well-trained, presenting a choice of pumpkin, wholemeal or plain bread to dip
