Review Lefkas Taverna - Brisbane

Zeglar “Zeg” Fergus
A very busy taverna with an extensive menu and great food. We ordered dishes to share, including dips and breads. Everything was good to eat and delicious. The night we were there was busy so the indoor dining area can be a little noisy. There is outdoor footpath seating under the street awning.

We had a reservation and everything was really well organised. The food was top notch and the food came out pretty fast. The service could have been a tiny bit better as the waitress seemed disinterested in her role and we felt like she just didn't want to be there. All in all quality of food was a 10 and the meals are very decent sized.

Restaurant has an nice authentic feel. It came recommended so I had high hopes. Unfortunately there is room for improvement. Slightly disorganised service. We booked a table for two and were seated on a big group table in the middle. The table number was missing and the staff member made a joke that we probably won't get our food. Wasn't that funny when we actually didn't. In the end the food was great and all things considered I would be happy to go back and give them another go.

Absolutely 💯 fabulous food, live entertainment and atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone looking to entertain friends and family.

The service here is amazing, really kind and attentive staff Ambience is great We found the food a bit average - got the feed platter and mezzi platter. Saganaki was delicious Meats were cooked well

I had a dinner with friends at Lefkas and it was amazing. Food was tasty, nicely presented, and generous. Service was prompt, friendly, and accommodating with special orders. Thank you so much to all the team, you delivered a seamless service and made our celebration dinner the special occasion we expected. We’ll definitely come back to try more of the menu.

Lefkas came highly recommended to me by a colleague and it certainly lived up to the high standards I had built up! The food was incredible, lovely authentic flavours, great servings and a special Greek atmosphere. The service was great. We were on a date night, but would suits groups too. Would highly recommend to friends and family and will absolutely come again! Thank you Lefkas team! ❤ (Pictured: Share Platter for 2)

Very rarely do I take the time to go online and write a review, but this place is just worth it. First time here and first time trying Greek food. Dined in tonight, ordered the grilled eggplant and the seafood platter for two. Both amazing. It was a bit busy but the food or service weren't compromised. Our waitress was lovely and very helpful. We were sitting in front of the kitchen door and every plate that was coming out looked delicious! We'll call next time to book a table outside, though, as we felt a bit cornered next to the restrooms. Other than that, everything was impeccable. Will definitely be back soon as it's our new favorite place!

I just had the most magnificent birthday dinner here. The food was amazing and service unlike anywhere else I had been. I had warm birthday wishes from the staff, a big birthday celebration at cake time and even a little gift from the restaurant! I love this place for its food but the ambience and excellent service take it to the next level. Ps you must try the lemon potatos

Lefkas is my absolute favourite Greek restaurant. With fabulous food, exceptional service and great atmosphere, I couldn't recommend anywhere better to eat

Lefkas is vibrant, welcoming, flexible and reasonably priced, but the best of all is the consistency of the authentic Greek food. A regular for near on 15 years, Lefkas is our go to place for a midweek feast or weekend celebration. I just love the place!

Thank-you so much, to John and his team of amazing staff! We had my mum's 60th there today, and it was brilliant!! The food was generous and delicious, and not a single person was left hungry... The wait staff were super attentive and helpful, and the venue was inviting and open. It was such a joyous day, and I would recommend Lefkas for any occasion! Thank-you!!!

My first visit to Lefkas will definitely not be my last. Food was divine...service first class. John and his staff went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful night. Many many thanks...we’ll be back!!

Disappointed in slow cooked beef. Music was great; all other food great too. The service was average, but if you like Greek food worth a try,

I rarely write a review but I felt like I needed to give praise where its deserved. I have been coming here for almost ten years now and every time is an experience and service that you wish for when dining out. The friendly owners are always there making sure your completely taken care of and the food is incredible (I literally cant find another greek place that tastes better then Lefkas)! The whole ambience is vibrant and traditional giving you a fun greek experience, especially on the weekend! Ive had my birthday there recently of about 25 people and everyone raved about the place to me for weeks and have told me they've already been going back. Thank you Lefkas for providing all the enjoyment a customer could hope for when wanting to have a great night out for dinner and drinks.

Great traditional Greek cuisine. Alive with chatter and smiles. The way a Greek restaurant should be.

Beautiful food, went with one mission to have grilled baby octopus (that I read a good review about) and was not disappointed. Wait staff were great, friendly and efficient. We will be back!

I celebrated my 60th Birthday last Friday night. I said to my darling wife I want to celebrate Greek style, wonderful food, music, dancing and that good old fashion Greek hospitality. A big thank you to all the staff who exceeded my wildest expectations. Brought back my childhood memories with my best school days mate and his family. I indeed was spoilt. PS would have loved to smash some plates. Maybe next time.

Wow, what amazing people! I know, I know, the food right? Yes, it was mouth watering, and generous, and beautiful, but oh, the people! The service was incredible, and they way they looked after us was awesome...they really know how to treat their customers, and they way they made my daughter Erin feel so special when they bought her birthday cake....wow! I was so impressed and grateful. They really know how to take the simple act of bringing a cake to the table to new heights, and how to help the people celebrating feel on top of the world. Thank you!!

My favourite Greek restaurant in Brisbane - I've been hooked since my first yiros in 1992! Pork yiros, haloumi on the side and rice pudding to finish.. thank you for all the years of deliciousness

Have loved this place for years! I feel with the ownership change a while back and the new fit out they’ve taken it to a whole new level. Brilliant food and fantastic environment. Plus the servings are huge! Love it

I like this restaurant, the design the the restaurant is so Greek style, and the food is also Mediterranean! We have lamb shank and baby octopus. My only suggestion would be the halloumi to be cut into small slices instead of a whole big chuck. I would like to try other dishes next time.
Alexander Burgess
Thoroughly enjoyed. Authentic Greek food combined with friendly staff and great live music. Ordered the Legends Platter but super keen to come again to try the rest of the menu.

OMG, drop everything & go here for dinner! We had the platter for two & it was AMAZING. Can't wait to go back. We definitely didn't need to add on the chips & salad but it was a nice accompaniment to the meal. Looks like you can get take away too.. Sooo sad we don't live closer. Lovely service & decor. Yum!!

Yummy Greek food in West End. The platter is huge and everything was yum. Will go back again to try the gyro and home cooked dishes like mossaka.

I have been wanting to try some authentic greek dishes. That’s why I decided to visit this restaurant. The restaurant was empty when I was there. I only noticed two groups of people having lunch. I have to say that their service was so good. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I asked her for her recommendation and she described everything nicely. <br/><br/>I had classic lefkas yiros with pita and tzatziki. The staff said that I could opt three meats: chicken, pork, and lamb. So I went for it. The portion was sooo large. It should be enough for 3 persons. It was a huge pile of meats on the top of pita bread. The meats were cooked well. They were tender. I could taste one of the meats was saltier than the others. They were great!! I also loved the pita bread and tzatziki. It was a great meal. I even didnt have dinner since I was too full.👍

This is now my favourite Greek restaurant! My partner and I had dinner here last week and the food is authentically Greek and delicious! I now understand why it is necessary to book a table, it is really popular and was fully booked on the night that we went there. One tip is to go there very very hungry as the portions are huge...i regretted having lunch earlier that day. We started with pitta bread and a trio of dips which I can recommend if there are maybe 3-4 people sharing as an entree...it was so delicious though! We then had our mains, my partner had the rosemary lamb shank which looked awesome, the size could have easily fed 2 people (he said it was amazing) and I had the beef stifado which was the best one I've ever eaten. We will definitely return but I think next time, we will order plates to share and not eat anything else beforehand!!!

A true West End staple that's never let us down. It's not pompous, over the top, or complicated - it's just hearty, honest Greek food. This is a great option for groups of friends looking for a casual shared feast.
Natali Cheng
Fresh and yummy! Go for combination platter for two! The grilled octopus is delicious! Lamb souvlaki so tender.... Best with their on tap lefkas lager!
Sarah Anderson Nee Yip
Must try this if you love Greek food. Lamb shanks, cabbage rolls, dips all great and can be gluten and dairy free if you get vegetable sticks with the latter. Not big on their fish but otherwise perfect..gets loud at night so I sit in the corner or go on weekdays. Great dessert selection if you're into that.

This was the last meal I had before I got my teeth extracted pre adult brace life, so I remember it with immense fondness and longing for the time I had fully functioning teeth. I went with my hubby Kate and a second time later in that week when we had Will's birthday and I badgered him into going here over all other Greek spots in West End. Spoiler alert, I think it's one of the best Greek places in West End! <br/><br/>The parking is a bit shoddy, since its on the corner of Dornoch Terrace and Hardgrave road. Good luck finding a side road with parking, or get good at parallel parks fam. I'm not sure what the solution is here, really? The restaurant itself is simply done, and also super cold in winter due to their giant glass doors. It has a casual takeaway bain marie setup, run in and get some takeaway food!<br/><br/>We got the combination platter for two, it had baby octopus, lamb souvlaki, chicken souvlaki, calamari, haloumi, a stack of pita bread and some hommus. Originally the option was tzatziki but the whole lactose intolerance thing for me y'know. We also got the option to get a greek salad and chips cause we fatties. <br/><br/>This entire platter was freaking fantastic and too much for two girls, I still had a huge serve for breakfast the next day.In the order of what we got, here are my thoughts! Baby octopus are pretty good, super tender but the seasoning is better at the Greek Club. The souvlaki both lamb and chicken were freaking fantastic, so tender, juicy with a great garlic and oregano seasoning, not in the least bit dry! They gave us a huge generous serve of calamari with salt and pepper coating and a tender crumb, I was still able to eat this when I got my teeth removed! The haloumi is the biggest, goddamn serve you'd find in Brisbane, like a giant mattress of a serve! We got two big slabs that were as thick as solid paperback book, let's say a good 5cm or so, look at that solid char! Pita bread wasn't bad but wasn't as fluffy as the Greek Club. <br/><br/>We also got the taramasalata and pita bread, by we, I mean I got it solely for myself. I love taramasalata, smooth, creamy, fishy salty but not overpowering. Solid. <br/><br/>Chips were good! <br/><br/>The greek salad had leaves, and I am strongly against improving on the classic Greek salad in any way. I also dislike rocket.<br/><br/>The second time I went here, I stole pieces of the this chicken yiros. It was not able to be closed on first attempt, they gave you a super generous serve of chicken and you had to slowly deflate the pile before attempting closing! <br/><br/>The lamb cutlets were amazing, so juicy and I stole people's bones to nibble that caramelised fat off. Its honestly the best part of the cutlets I think. <br/><br/>Definitely would get again. 100% would come back here again!

Food was tasty, can’t fault that. Service wasn’t too bad. Price was a little let down. A little over priced for what you get. Otherwise ok. Wouldn’t say that we wouldn’t go back, but not in a hurry.
Monica
Definitely would go there to try more! I live near this restaurant, there are so many people every night! And also I tried their Yiros long time ago, that’s soooo good and impressed me!!! Then I went there with my friends last night to try some main dishes, that’s excellent as well!!! And when I saw food on others’ table, the only thing I thought is that I must try them next time, since they look so delicious. <br/>If there are anything I think they can improve, I may mention the menu. It’s quite hard for me to choose without any pictures.

Great food, great atmosphere! My family's staple restaurant in Brisbane for years! We love it here and will always come back 😄 the food is always fresh, tasty, staff are always friendly and helpful and the live music makes you want to dance!

We had the opportunity to dine here recently after 3 years overseas and nothing has changed. <br/>Consistently good Greek food, good size portions and great service. <br/>Keep it up. <br/>Ευχαριστώ πολύ

TL;DR: The long and short of it here is that Lefka's simply is one the classic places in Brisbane, for all the right reasons. It has some great food that is high quality, and good value, and with all the busy buzzing that goes about, it is a real delight to have service that is as personable, and attentive as they have here. Just those two things, and a long-standing good reputation, and the place ought to be pretty set. <br/><br/>There is little point in mincing words about this place. If any place stands as a testament to being a favourite, to showcasing the Greek community in Brisbane's West End. The fact that it is still standing after all of these years, and even in the middle of the week during dinner-time, that it is buzzing loudly and continuously, that is even more of a testament to the quality of the food, and everything. That is none other than Lefka's, and without any doubt I have visited this several times in the many years I have lived in Brisbane. Bringing the consensus home early, it is really just as good as it always was. <br/><br/>Through so many years of being between here and Urbanspoon, somehow right here had evaded getting reviewed by me. Well, that was no more and I saw a great opportunity for it one week. My parents were in town for a meeting, and were going to stay overnight at my place; with that aspect set in motion, leading up to that week, my dad and I had a conversation about getting a meal out for my mum with her birthday having been some time back. What this involved was finding a place to eat somewhere in the inner city area, and West End seemed the best bet. <br/><br/>Then it hit me all of a sudden. In spite of what might have been implied, there was no build up to booking here but more everything falling into line. All that needed to be done was to put in a booking, and getting that done online in between times was easy as pie. Before long, a table for four was booked - with the fourth member being my house mate/dining buddy. So it was him and I of to here to meet the parents. <br/><br/>One of the things that was noted about here, is that there has been a big extension to the place. It used to only take up one room with a few more tables on the sidewalk, but now there is two or three rooms taken up with such a giant, open floor plan, with a couple of special rooms off to the side. <br/><br/>It would be pretty difficult to ask for better service, particularly from one young woman to attended to us throughout the night. She was pleasant, chirpy and very efficient bringing things to and from the table throughout the night. Also, what makes that even better was that there was no shortage of clientele to attend to, and even with hundreds of errands big and small to do, everyone is made to feel equally welcome. This is something which would take a hell of a lot of effort to achieve, and a whole lot more to make it seem just as effortless as it appears. <br/><br/>The fare that they serve is a good melding of the origins of Greek cuisine and the adaptations to Australian. This is possibly what we have been eating in town for the past 30-40 years, and this fare is something which ain't going away any time soon. Like any place around here that is highly popular and a surefire winner of an option, the majority of the menu represents it really well with a lot of the fare readily sharable. In other words, the menu starts off with quite the selection of mezze that ranges from various dips with bread, to different bits of seafood - with its own section and everything - to a good enough variety to satisfy vegetarian diets. If making a choice proves to be a bit hard, they have hot platters for two people to entice trying a whole array of nibbles. <br/><br/>After all that, it is the grilled meats that are on offer, as well as several classic Greek dishes. Lamb rules the roost here for the most part, and everything is cooked slowly on the spit releasing all the flavours and aromas through the juices and sweat from cooking. Adding onto all these are various sides including several salads. Really big groups get the honour to be able to order some banquets, which will guarantee that they try a whole range of the great treats that are on offer here. <br/><br/>And that is before mentioning the sweets and drinks they have. For the eating part, just think of a big range of the classic pastries from the Mediterranean and there you go. To go with them is tea and coffee, and jumping from there with the drinks adds on the general range of sodas, plus a range of wines, beers, cocktail and the ilk. All this makes for the ideal night out. <br/><br/>After all of that, it is high time to get onto the eating. To start the whole night off, a couple of nibbles plus some bread and dips. The nibbles came in the form of some saganaki cheese - almost a tough choice from haloumi ... almost - and an order of some white bait. The white bait was piping hot and delicious, mostly from the combination of a substantial batter, and an exciting seasoning mixture than included plenty of salt. The saganaki cheese is like haloumi on steroids; that is with the taste and how it is cooked. A small piece of it is very strong, and the sheer bite of the aroma makes it melt in the mouth once it goes in. Hot and freshly sizzling, this sucker must definitely be tried out. <br/><br/>As for getting the three dips, those dips were the tarama (or cod roe), the eggplant dip known as melitzanosalata, and the garlic-potato mixture skordalia. Alongside them was plenty of piping hot flat bread, which was tender and delicious, plus the ratio of dips to bread was pretty adequate. If more food were not being ordered already, a top up of bread would have been a done deal. The skordalia was brilliant in all of its garlic-based goodness, the tarama was smooth, slightly salty and went down a treat, and the eggplant also did its job. All of this was just the beginning. <br/><br/>After that good lot of starters it was onto the main meals. The meals here are pretty substantial. The lot included some mousaka, stifado, half a kilogram of lamb souvla, and baked lemon chicken with sides of fries and Greek salad being ordered. With exception to the salad, I managed to sneak a try of each item. From the small try of the mousaka I had - which went home as a doggy bag - it was all-round delicious with soft potato, tender lamb mince, and creamy eggplant. That is a Greek classic, and it is for a very good reason. <br/><br/>Going onto the souvla, that is one of major reasons for coming here. A choice of either lamb or chicken, this meat is slowly cooked on the spit, and carved up in big bits onto the plate which then has the option of a side to spruce up the meal. The meat here is some of the most tender, most juicy, and most substantial that will be found in any part of town here. This is not a meal for one, but a platter to be shared around - and you would be wanting to do so. Next was the baked lemon chicken, which the meat was super tender and fell off the bone easily, and the skin infused the lemon flavour effectively and was deliciously crispy. Onto mine, the stifado - which is slowly-cooked beef in a red wine sauce served with onions and rice. Just like the rest, the meat was tender and delicious being simply moreish. The onions added a sweetness to it, and the well-cooked rice soaked up all the delicious sauce effectively. <br/><br/>With a place goes from decent to really great, sometimes it is in something as simple and straightforward as fries. Right here, from the first bite of them, my dining buddy reckoned that they were perfect and he would not be wrong there. Such a generous serving size, the seasoning was heavy and really made the dish, and the mixture between the crispy coating and soft-cooked potato was spot on. And the meal would have easily ended here and still being one of the best that had been done all year. <br/><br/>When there is a chance for a shot at the 5.0 score, a trial is proposed and put into place. That is to try some dessert to sweeten the deal. Of course, the way to get that into motion was going for a coffee. With it being a Greek place, it was none other than the classic Greek coffee, and one thing leads to another which culminates in pairing the coffee with a sweet. Not going for anything too heavy or big, one of the absolute reliable classics was chosen in the form of a galaktoboureko. Ultimately though, the coffee came with a Turkish Delight so it was not really necessary to get the sweet for a critique - but I ain't complaining here. <br/><br/>First with the coffee, the size of the cup they give might be equivalent to one in a doll's tea party set, however the small lot that is brewed into that cup may well be stronger than three espressos alone. The force is akin to a short punch to the gut, and it will take a few sips from even a seasoned drinker to finish it. Also, it is piping hot and has a slight under-taste of cardamon in it. The Turkish delight was tasty as per usual, a tad sweeter than normal plus it was almost entirely encased in icing sugar. The galaktoboureko was also delicious, with the sweetness merely coming from the honey and the pastry being substantially crunchy. Only a few dollars, this managed to do the trick many desserts twice its price can't quite cover. <br/><br/>Without any kind of hyperbole intended, this is pretty much as good as it can get in town. Everything here is right on point, going from the aesthetics to the service, to some of the most generous, best quality fare that could be found on any side of town. Everything here is in order, and it makes for the ideal place for a good night out whether it be special occasion for something that is completely on the fly. <br/><br/>There is a good reason that after all these years, that if Lefka's somehow finds itself open on any day of the week, that it will be buzzing with heaps of business. The welcoming service among so many clientele really helps the case, and the glue that sticks it all together is the sheer quality and value of the fare that they dish out. That is the main reason that they have stuck around for all these years, and a great bet is that they will still be doing this many more years down the line.

We’ve been here several times which means we like the food. <br/>It’s a very busy restaurant though particularly on Friday evenings. I like the live music and the type of music they play.<br/>Service is relatively good considering how busy the restaurant becomes.<br/>food is nice except for once we had spinach Lasagne and it was bitter. I couldn’t finish it. I love the Greek salad though.

I love Lefkas! It's just tasty food! We returned for a Saturday night booking and although we arrived a bit early, were promptly seated. The restaurant was full and this was the first time sitting off in the side room which was quite noisy but no complaints! I'm here to eat! We ordered a trio of dips, not because we needed more food with our main but to try. We also ordered the combination platter for 2, however we swapped out the octopus for my non-seafood eating partner and subbed in some souvlaki (I kept the calamari for myself!). Drinks and food came out very quickly, especially considering how busy they were. I noticed around me tables receiving their food at the same time as their guests which is something I appreciate. The bread I find addictive - warm and chewy soft and I know I shouldn't fill up but it's just there!! I can't recall the names of our 3 dips but we had a tzatziki, a potato garlic one (like a cold mashed potato really, different but nice) and an eggplant and feta one. All decent. The combo platter comes with (more!) bread, calamari, lamb and chicken souvlaki, haloumi, and in our case mixed yiros meat, with some lemon and tzatziki. The calamari is lightly battered and very tasty. I am certain some may say too salty - I like salty flavours and it may have been a bit too much even for me but still loved it. The souvlakis are also beautifully marinated and there are 2 skewers of each. There are 2 thick portions of the softest haloumi and the yiros in place of the octopus was a great swap and nice with the lemon and bread. We bit off more than we could chew ordering an entree and had to box up our leftovers to take home. A delicious filling meal. Friendly and attentive service. We always get the platter but must come back to try some of their meals, they look huge and prices very reasonable.

Incredible. We have been here at least 5 times now when we feel like Greek. Amazing lamb. The platters are amazing, the halloumi is to die for. 🤤🤤

Love going on a Friday or Saturday night when there is live music and dancing. Warm, family style welcome. Great on a warm summers night when the breeze blows up from the river and through the big open doors. The grilled octopus or lamb are my favourites and the saganaki is a salty starter!

Lovely food, nice atmosphere. Had a few group functions and they were very organised. Smaller meals and a bit more expensive than other places. Their takeaway meals fresh from the bain marie are great though. Good service. Ok parking. Tasy food.

The food and the wine was quite good, and it is very good value for money. The service was so so, we asked for a few extra things that never came. Also the place is a bit too loud.

I celebrated my 50th birthday celebration with 35 close family & friends at Lefkas.  John (Owner) was awesome in helping with the organisation including the wines, food and table settings. John was super helpful & extremely flexible with food options, decorations and had no issues with some of my friends giving a song performance. The night was all I had wished for - the music played by the band, the Zorba dancing, super delicious food, excellent wines and especially the attentive and friendly staff - all helped to make my 50th very special.  We have always enjoyed dining at Lefkas & will certainly be returning. Thanks John, Dennis and the entire team!

We live this place. The souvlaki rolls are spectacular. But WHAT POPULAR FAMILY RESTAURANT DOESN'T OPEN AT ALL ON A SUNDAY???? So annoying. Sheesh.
Helena Wang
Really well priced, with huge portions and great interior. Staff are a bit sparse and quite busy, but it's a popular joint and well worth the money. It was the first time I had ever had moussaka and I really don't think I'll ever go back to eating lasagne! Also, they have the option of having roast vegetables with your main instead of salad, which is really quite a thoughtful option to have.
Jessica Elizabeth
Ordered the combination platter for two people. Food was amazing, the octopus & calamari were cooked to perfection. Reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.

Second time at this restaurant. Amazing food and amazing service! The share plate was delicious. Love this place! Would highly recommend. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaas

Lefkas is my favourite Greek restaurant purely on the strength of their lamb yiros (with freshly made pide, crispy, chewy grilled meat and fresh salad) and their taramasalata which is smooth, delicious and creamy. I believe they are the best at these dishes in Brisbane. Tonight was no exception as my friend and I enjoyed a nice satisfying dinner here. <br/><br/>What you can expect from Lefkas on a busy night  is good honest food at a loud, bustling, energetic restaurant (live music on Friday nights), where most people look like they're having a fun time. <br/><br/>Apart from their yiros and tarama I've also enjoyed other items like their lamb shank, souvlaki and horta (spinach salad) which I like warm. <br/><br/>Not much of a fan of their seafood items (generally not a huge fan of Greek seafood) or their moussaka. <br/><br/>I do enjoy their desserts, particularly the vanilla halwa and tourta. Their galaktoboureko is nice but is not as good as Little Greek Taverna. <br/><br/>The wait staff are friendly, but understandably a bit harried on busy nights.

Had dinner at Lefkas on Friday night and all the food was very tasty, some of the dishes we had were the calamari, slow cooked lamb, octopus, lemon potatoes and bread w dips. We also had a couple of desserts including the cream caramel and the honey puffs. Service was a bit slow, but other than that everything was good.

I had a lamb shank which came with green beans, potatoes and rice. Lamb shank was tender and I enjoyed the tomato sauce. The dish came with one or two pretty small potatoes, and it was hard as a rock that I struggled to cut it with a knife. After I cut it, I made a mistake of eating it. It was inedible and I had to spit it out. Unsure if it was undercooking or overcooking that caused this.<br/><br/>However, mistakes can happen in the kitchen, and when the waitress asked our table how the food was going, I told her that I enjoyed the lamb shank but the potatoes were really hard and it was almost inedible. She was nice, but she just said okay with no offer to replace the potatoes. When she was collecting the plates, she let me know that the chef apologised for the potatoes, but the standard response would be replacing the elements that had gone wrong. I could go without few potatoes in the dish, but it is disappointing when the dish you ordered is not complete.

Best Greek I have found in Brisbane and therefore my 'go to'. Well priced, delicious food with generous serving sizes and friendly staff. Gyros plate is delicious as is the platter and haloumi. Only down side is comfort - no air con and ineffective fans means a little uncomfortable for sittings at this time of year but because the food and experience is so good I push through. Lefkas is a Brisbane tradition.
Derek
Tender chargrilled baby octopus, stunning lamb-atmospheric -embodies the best of the Greek generosity of food and spirit. On my list of regular places-a great spot.

Had the combination platter for 2 ( Lamb & chicken souvlaki, Octopus , calamari, haloumi, tzatziki & pita). I was very disappointed because I was expecting a lot after reading good reviews from Zomato. Taste was very average. The calamari and octopus were not fresh, looks like they were cooked much before as they weren't even hot when served. They looked soggy and didn't taste fresh. The lamb was okay. They didn't serve Tzatziki as mentioned in the menu, instead served Skord Alia. They didn't bother to mention the swap. Only when I ordered the Skord Alia as a separate dip I realised it was the same thing. I would never go back there.

The lamb yiros here was amaaaazing. Delicious balance of crispy and tender chewiness. Massive serving, you could easily take leftovers home for the next day's lunch. Wait staff were very attentive in checking on us and were lovely. The only thing is that it can get quite loud inside, so you may strain to hear your dining companions if you're seated at a long table.

I would not describe Lefkas as having an innovative or modern Greek menu. This is more of a traditional Australian-Greek menu with stuffed capsicums, fish, chips and salad and the like. We had pitas and dips for the table which were fantastic. I then just wanted a simple vegetarian meal. I chose the veggies with rice. There was confusion when it was brought to the table as the waitress announced that it was beans and potatoes. Eventually she confirmed it was my vegetables and rice. I was surprised there were so many potatoes in a dish that came with rice. However, the flavours were nice and the size so generous I was able to pick out the bits I wanted - the onion, eggplant and capsicum and the lovely tomato sauce. The desserts are really very good and worth leaving a bit of stomach space for. All in all this is affordable suburban Greek fare with good service.

We had the Tarama dip for entree and shared the mixed platters for mains.  Really really tasty food!  Dip was fine, plenty of bread.  Octopus was REALLY yummy, not tough and chewy, just right, same with the calimari. Nice big slabs of haloumi. Lamb was nice, bit chewy, but nice flavours, didn't try the chicken.   Accompanying greek salad was lovely.  Nice big chunks of feta.  Olives had the stones in, just a minor quibble.  All in all, would def go again!  Oooh and kudos to the wait staff, I barely had to wait for a drink!

Had a craving for greek salad and popped in for lunch - desperately want to come back asap and try a platter though as they looked amazing! Little pricey but the food was fresh and tasty. Perfect thing for a muggy hot Brisbane day.
I Make Food Into Nards
My family and I come here to smash plates and plates of food (figuratively not literally). We have been getting carried away with the food here since it was a tiny hole<br/>in the wall. Now that it's been done up the only problem is that I have to find an appropriately sized belt every time I eat their huge spread of delicious foods. If you go here, just get 1 of everything and share, don't be that person who gets a plate for themselves.

Awesome food and great service. Glad we booked a table as we would have missed out. We brought 3 kids with us which were also well catered for. I would Highly recommend 😊
Tasting Plate
Absolutely nothing bad about this place! The welcome when we walked in was warm and the food was perfection. We got the combination platter and everything on it was perfect. The atmosphere was so much fun and we were thanked for clapping and participating in the fun. Even offered a dance later. We left with full bellies, Turkish delight and baklava to take away! Thanks for a great night.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
I've been to Lefkas a couple times with large groups and have enjoyed the yiros, souvlaki, haloumi and saganaki.  The food is good and it is quite entertaining when there is live music and dancing.  I enjoy the food, but prefer Little Greek Taverna.
Popsm83
Was so disappointed with our meal last night. Wait staff and atmosphere was good, but the food lacked. Everything was just warmed up, the only fresh thing was the salad. My spinach lasagne appeared to be cooked a long time ago, the spinach was almost black inside. Desserts just frozen, nothing fresh and you can really taste it.

Love this place. Haven't been in over a year but it still holds its standard. We went on Saturday night and it was super busy due to paniyiri I think. I could not fault the service they were friendly, cleared every dish almost as soon as it was finished and the food, despite being told there might be a wait, came out promptly and hot. We ordered hummus with pita, grilled saganaki (like haloumi but is low in lactose), meatballs in a tomato and wine sauce and lamb souvlaki. We followed it all up with some beautiful honey puffs. Sooo good.

Do your tastebuds a favour and go to Lefkas. <br/>A M A Z I N G food. Quick and courteous service. Great location. Home style, share plate type arrangement. <br/>Did I mention the food? 😍

Fav Greek restaurant in Brisbane! Absolutely amazing service and terrific food!! Such fantastic flavours reminds me of my Yia Yia's cooking!
Jo_B_1981
Food was tasty, pity about the appalling service. None of our table have ever been in a situation before where we've been brought a dish (haloumi), which we ordered and then, when the staff realised that the haloumi was in fact intended for another table, not for our table, been accused (by the waitress assigned to our table, mind, not the waitress who actually brought us the haloumi) of STEALING the other table's order and virtually yelled at about how the other table 'has been waiting a very long time for their food!!' - how is that our fault, exactly? Further, although we ordered one serve of haloumi and were brought haloumi on one plate, we were chastised about how we should have KNOWN there were TWO serves on the plate and so clearly it wasn't our order (how the heck are we supposed to know this if it presented on one small plate?). Our assigned waitress then proceeded to proclaim to the other table that we had 'stolen' their order. She then returned to our table, and continued with her diatribe, even to say that we'd 'grabbed' the order from the other waitress' hands. When someone at our table let her know that we'd heard overheard her telling other table that we'd stolen their order, she flatly lied and said she hadn't said that (although nine sets of ears heard the same thing). The best part is, once she actually went and questioned the staff member who gave us the haloumi, that staff member obviously admitted the stuff up, as our assigned waitress then apologised for the mix up and pretended everything was fine. What a disgraceful experience.

Amazing food with great flavours! Service was very welcoming and waiters are always up for a fun conversation. Food was ordered and served very quickly. Lovely wine menu aswell.

My favourite Greek restaurant in Brisbane - I've been going here since I was 7! The default order is the pork yiros (kebab), which is under $10 takeaway. The same dish is double the price dine-in, but the serving is also at least twice as big! Sometimes I get haloumi on the side takeaway and it has always been perfectly cooked, served with lemon and salad. Love their tasty range of to-go options such as the braised lamb shanks. The rice pudding is also to die for! I think there's still BYO available early on during the week.
More Spice
I have been going to Lefkas for almost a decade thanks to their chicken yiros. Love the spanikopita and baked lemon chicken, both are my dine in favourites. The only thing that annoys me is its double the price for some items to eat in. I know they had extensions and it is way nicer... But $20 to eat a chicken wrap in the restaurant vs $10 to take it away is a bit much. I'll never stop going though
RaRa
Love, love, LOVE Lefka's! Hands down the best greek restaurant in west end. Slightly out of the main drag but well worth it! Favourites are the platter, gyro's, haloumi, stuffed capsicum.
JD
Definitely one of the best Greek restaurants in Brisbane.  Until recently (where service was not quite up to scratch ie. meals took over an hour after ordering then the waitress was rude when questioned), I would have said this was the best food available.  The entirety of their menu items are beyond delicious.  A little pity it's not BYO majority of the nights of the week!
Berreto
A true Brisbane classic. I've been going to Lefka's for years and years, and have never had a bad experience. Never! Delicious food, generous portions, attentive service and a great community vibe, with plenty upon plenty of energy. Greek food at its best, a Brisbane eatery which delivers every time

We took some friends to the restaurant on s Saturday night and the selection of food was great and the atmosphere was well suited. <br/>The restaurant was full and was well priced for the meals. We would definitely visit again.

Yum, yum, yum, yum, did I say yum? Boy did I get my craving for greek food fixed. Glad to stumble across this place food was awesome. Loved the tarama dip so much I bought a container to take home lol, also ordered a mixed platter for two every element was cooked perfectly tender. Will be back soon

One night after work, we decided for a bit of a change. Seeking something new and refreshing, we opted for Greek food at Lefkas Taverna at West End. We booked a table early on, and were very thankful that we did, because the restaurant filled up very quickly after we arrived at 6. I really enjoyed the theme and decor of the restaurant, particularly the pots hanging from the ceiling gave it a very authentic touch.

Didn't come back for a long time, shame that they charge us $1 per sauce, well at least I didn't get to know before I ordered it. other than that food was beautiful as before. (Sep 2017)love it, all the food there, but usually we ordered the seafood platter to share...more than enough....if you have it before dinner time (the peak time) I still won't be hungry until the next day. and don't miss out the dessert before you leave. Why so rude, Lefkas?. My friends and I went to Lefkas Taverna last night and we were all really excited. It was some of our first times trying this restaurant and we heard it was BYO, so we were all really pumped about it. <br/><br/>We were late for half an hour, we did feel bad, but accidents do happen. The guys didn't even say anything, or call and ask whether if we are okay. (I used to work in hospitality, and we understand that some customers can be late due to traffic and other reasons.) As we soon as we walked in the guy was like "You only have an hour and half to dine here" We were really confused and wondering why. He then said "It is only two hour dining time, so your booking was at six so you need to finish at eight; and you are half an hour late" Then he add "it is normal on Friday and Saturday, to have 2 hours dining time"<br/><br/>What kind of attitude was that? Nobody told us there is only two hours dining time when we made the booking, and he talked to us like we should have known. Well, we didn't <br/><br/>As mentioned we heard it was BYO, so we have a bottle with us. When we sat down, the guy said immediately "Sorry, we are not BYO." Because one of our friends came here before so she said she went there many time and it was BYO. He gave us the most ridiculous answer "We are only BYO on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays only." Then my friend mentioned again she went there before and it wasn't those days. He answered back with "Yes, we have changed it, and it says on the website too." <br/><br/>So what could we have said? It has already ruined happy mood towards it. We didn't have our wine, we ended up ordering a bottle. Thankfully the food wasn't bad. However, it still didn't make up the rudeness and the uninformative service. <br/><br/>We don't have time to check your website, EVERY TIME, we might have to go in. We DO NOT know that on Friday and Saturday, there's only 2 hours of dining time. Your restaurant is either BYO, or not BYO. That night we saw three other tables that had the same problem! So is it, really that the customers didn't check the website? You as the staff NEED to inform your customers when they make the booking! <br/><br/>So overall, I wouldn't go back unless I have to. Did the food make up for the service, NO. Did the atmosphere in the restaurant make up the fact that they were uninformative, NO.

Rude service, average food. Disappointed, especially after reading all the reviews. Extremely rude, unhelpful staff. Pork souvlaki average. Would not recommend. Have been to other Greek restaurants in west end that are far superior in service and food quality.
Alexandra
Greek tragedy!. Service was very poor. Waitress was very rude to us. Our food was very dry and flavourless. Almost tasted like yesterday's food. Wouldnt recommend
Felixpractice
Tragic. An hour and a half I'm still sitting here waiting for my meal. Waiters are rude. Just terrible.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Lefkas is one of my favourite Greek restaurants in Brisbane.  When I first discovered the place a few years back, it was all about simple but well cooked meals, generous in size and cheap in price.  Back in ye ole days, you had to go next door to the bottle shop to get your drinks, it was that pared back.   Flash forward to today, Lefkas has undergone some changes.  The restaurant itself is two to three times bigger post renovations and has a more up-market feel.  The meals are half the size and twice as much as it was yester year but fortunately the taste is still the same.   Fried calamari On this occasion we had the grilled baby octopus and the calamari lightly floured and fried for the entree. They were about $20 each. Grilled octopus I normally also order the home made dips in the past - well worth a try as well. For mains, we ordered a mixed yiros with a combination of chicken, lamb and pork - the holy Trinity of meats!  It was approx $22 for the combo.  The meat was tender and garlic-y good.  It melted in your mouth.   Verdict:  We liked it.   Overall  Despite Leftkas going up market, the integrity of the food is still the same.  I am still a loyal customer.  You can now pay by credit card - proving the convenience of the modern age!

Take Away - yum!. I love getting take-away from Lefkas: the food is so fresh, tasty and authentic. I do think that their sit-down option is a bit overpriced. Very handy West End location.
Garima_sin
Very nice!!!!!!!!!!. If the owner is looking after you himself on a busy saturday night, it has to be good. Loved the flavours, good quantities and although service a bit slow after you finish, but, still very good and laid back. The flavours very remarkable, whether the dips or lemon chicken or even the vegetarian...would certainly go back and recommend it to friends as well!!!!!!!!!!!

Ego has increased with popularity.... Lefka's has become popular for their tasty, home-style, affordable, authentic Greek food - with the increased popularity it seems the maître d's ego has inflated. On three separate occasions we have experienced really uncalled for arrogant behaviour from the maître d' which is really disappointing as Lefka's has always been our go-to Greek restaurant in Brisbane. The recent changes to the BYO rules (BYO Monday-Thursday only) and $8 corkage is also somewhat off-putting, leveraging on corkage & alcohol sales on the busy weekends. I think the owners need to seriously reconsider who they appoint as the maître d' as the current one is giving Lefka'a a really bad reputation.
The Two Food Hunters
We hadn't made a booking but they did fit us in where the service was fast and cheerful. Mr FH had the lamb and I had the lemon chicken. He enjoyed his and I loved the salad/ lemon potatoes but I don't like eating chicken drumsticks so if I had known this was the dish I wouldn't of ordered it. This is a me thing no reflection at all on the dish itself. <br/>I can't wait to go back and try more dishes
Jacques18
No BYO and poor service!. Had a booking for Lefkas tonight. I brought some special bottles of wine along to be told that they are no longer BYO and had to order wine from their limited wine list. No disclosure when making the booking. The waitress was rude about it. The service was poor, our potatoes were brought out about15 minutes before our mains. Overall, tonight was a bad experience and won't be rushing back.

Will not be going back.. I am writing this review on behalf of a friend who would otherwise not have said anything about their recent experience at Lefkas. While they decided that they would not provide any direct feedback to staff, I think it is important that something is said in some form as the experience had was inexcusable, and no feedback might otherwise condone the inappropriate behaviour that took place. <br/><br/>Essentially, a friend of mine arranged to hold a special event at Lefkas with various friends. On the night in question, the maître d began pulling individuals up to dance the Zorba; mostly those celebrating special events. Despite my friend's initial reluctance to get up, the dance was entertaining and they seemed to have fun. However, once it had finished, the maître d isolated my friend, and another person, to stand on some chairs. My friend refused various times and asked what they would be doing, but he refused to say and just asked her to stand on the chair. From this point, he told each person to engage in a sort of traditional belly dance; encouraging their hip movement with the use of a scarf he drew forth and back along their hips. My friend later related their discomfort at having the maître d looking at, and dancing, with each person in a sleazy manner; at the climax which included his slapping my friend on the hips to encourage continued dancing. After this was over, my friend consoled the other person, who was very angry, before returning to the table where we all related our own discomfort at what had taken place. <br/><br/>It took some processing time to consider the situation in its entirety, factoring in the festive and cultural aspects of the dancing, but our party collectively concluded that anything which makes an individual feel as uncomfortable as this situation did to my friend and the other individual involved is not OK. And furthermore, any physical contact with a customer in the manner described above is far beyond appropriate. <br/><br/>We hope that Lefkas takes this experience into consideration in the future, and that others who have experienced similar situations are able to speak up against it, as various customers have been permanently lost as a result of the events described above.

Grilled the Wallet. $8 corkage per bottle, this is what fine dining restaurants charge ($48 for us)? A group of us used to regularly attend Lefkas when the baby octopus were babies and there weren't so many mountains of lettuce which means there was more food. I don't think it is good value for money. Seems to be a cafe trying to be a restaurant, someone did mention the toilets in another review, they are about the only thing that hasn't changed.
Dameredith
Yuk. I feel sorry for these people, they have no Idea, food is not good I was with a group of 20 people for mothers day not one good comment from a single person so embarrased to be in a Greek family that can cook
Eva
Disappointed. Take away quality on fine dining prices!
TSV Mum
Great meal, friendly service good value. I'm not an expert in this cuisine, but we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Platters were generous and tasty. Will be back.

I did not like lefkas at all we went today I took my family three generations of mothers for mothers day from the get go things were poor no music.sitting on the footpath in the sun. Entre was ok but pita and greek? Dips from coles have more flavour. There were 20 people in our group no explanation or discussion was given from the waitresses to let us know what was being served platters were dropped in front of us and waitresses ran the only thing on the plate tasting good was the olive oil and the onions in the salad. I octopus was especially dissapointing as it was the rubberiast I have had the misfortune of tasting at least now I know what bad greek food tastes like as it sorry guys you fail as so many others do
Costa Petrogiannakis
Disappointed/Not Traditional. Quite disappointed with our Mothers Day lunch experience. Nothing had flavour. the dips were tasteless. Octypus was chewy and absolutely disgusting. Was that meant to be pickled. It's an insult to traditional greek food. Wouldn't go back. $700 for the bill and wouldn't even be worth $200.00. Could write more but a waste of time.
Mr Timothy J Hardie
I don't have enough time in my day to write all the negative things about Lefkas Taverna. <br/>I will say one positive thing though, they had nice Duralex glassware.
Paula
I went for lunch today with 6 others. We were one of two groups in the restaurant and yet for some reason it was as though we weren't even there. Firstly, despite the many, many (!) other free tables, I was seated on a corner of the table... Secondly, the two waitresses on shift took their time taking our orders and brining them out. From observation it didn't really seem like they had many pressing matters other than checking their phones and arranging the wine display. At the end of our meal, I was very keen for some of their delicious honey puff balls. The waitress, however, was not interested and simply left the bill on our half cleared table without asking us for coffee/dessert. A little more attention could have meant a lot more money to be made.
Kristen
So much food! The servings at this restaurant are very generous indeed and the food was delicious! My brother said that the calamari was the best he'd had and the chicken and lamb were both excellent! Come on an empty stomach!!
Dale
Ive never liked lefkas but tonight got a Yiros. Food was good very well priced and decent service.

Thank you for your consistency Lefkas, I have been coming here every couple of months for the past 3 years, the food is always brilliant, before and after the refurbishment, the quality of your service has never changed. Friends and I rely on your delicious menu to impress others, I have been to all the other local greek restaurants and I am sorry for them because they just can't compare. The menu has all our favorites, value for money is great & the service always spot on. Can't wait to return.
Maria Askildsen
My family and I were regulars at Leftkas and it would be our go-to place for entertaining overseas guests. However, our last visit will be remembered for the extreme amount of salt served in everything we ordered! Could not believe how salty all the meals were! I think someone accidentally dropped an entire bag of salt into the dishes! Might try again as it is normally quite good..
Citric101
Quality dinner time. I went to Lefkas Taverna on a friends recommendation. I hadn't checked the Urbanspoon rating beforehand and honestly I was very pleased with it. The staff were friendly, the food was delivered well above expected times, plenty of quantity (I couldn't finish it that night and had 2 yummy lunches the next 2 days) and seating arrangement was well laid out. Ofcourse do make a booking so to avoid waiting for a seat. I honestly can't understand the negative reviews, perhaps a little attitude check might be required? Will go here again no doubt :)
Jade Marrable
Not sure what all the whinging is about?? This place is fantastic, friendly and fast service, slow cooked lamb is amazing, I would come here just for the home made bread and dips. We went on a Saturday night, and yes it's crowded, yes it's noisy, but hello that's Greek!! The atmosphere was awesome and the owner got everyone up for a Greek zorba to the live musicians. Definitely my fave place in west end, we love it!
Jimmylesanto
Garlic. Lucky people of Brisbane have no idea what is Greek food good for Lefkas.<br/>Food is pre made and slammed on to small plates and everything taste like eating only garlic, that is an only flavour we could taste.<br/>Very busy place and people go there to share but not for food or service may be for the locals is ok value for money and for people who haven't got enough experience with food, for them is good, but for us that was waste of time and money.
Lostride
Tried this place a few months ago and was disappointed. I decided to give them another try and nothing has changed, very heavily salted and dry...yuck!
Gemma
Poor customer service!. As a business operating in the area, we frequent Lefkas weekly for takeaway lunch. After placing a large order for our Friday lunch including 9 lamb Yiros, we returned back to the office with only 8 Yiros. We calculated everything up and were charged for 9 Yiros. Someone drove back to get the forgotten item, but the staff there refused to believe us. So, someone was without lunch and $10 short. Very, very poor service considering we are repeat customers!
Black Mahogany
Surprisingly Disappointed.. Third time at Lefkas and first time after their expansion and I was pretty disappointed. Wait staff were pretty rude and they incorrectly took down one of our orders so we ended up having to pay extra. The fact that it is BYO Wine only now is also an inconvenience. Luckily, the food was still good but I'm not sure if I'll be back any time soon.
Foodfiend186
Still great food post expansion. Hadn't been to Lefkas for a while - since before the massive extension - went back for a group dinner post taking kids to their Formal. Place was packed and super busy but they found a spot for our group of 6 so all good. Ordered a variety - platters, dips, calamari, souvlaki, Greek coffee. Everything was delicious and the servings were generous, in fact SO generous, had lots left over. But, unlike Ouzeri (West End) - where the food is good but overpriced and the equally generous servings are wasted because they don't let you take anything home - we were able to pack up the left overs for later. Have been back again a few times since and had moussaka - nice but too much potato, fantastic lamb shank, lovely dips with the best bread and so on. Busy, noisy but still yummy. And the girls are friendly and helpful.
LouiseR
Abit of a hassle.. Lefka's have recently become a licensed venue though is still BYO wine only however with a charge of $8 corkage/bottle. The food we had was nice enough though I'm not sure it was work the $35 for the banquet. Probably could do without the hassle of going back to this place as we had a few customer service issues that we could do without on what's supposed to be a nice night out.
Spoly
When we got there is was so loud and noisy, (bad accoustic shop design), we ordered our food, the got one of the order incorrect, we asked for salad not rice, but the souvlaki sticks were tiny and only had 4 pieces of chicken on each and there was so much rice that it could have fed 4 ppl. My order of quail was nice, and the moussaka was nice,,, but... The pork giros??? Burnt overcooked black looking meat plonked on a pita bread with parsely,,, not what i would call a giros, there was no way they could wrap it up and enjoy, instead they had to use cutlery to eat a giros,,,, greek salad was nice, lemon potatoes were so-so, not really baked but more broiled and soft, but taste was ok,,,,<br/>So the waitress had kindly asked if she could clear the plates, and then they gave us the bill, we turned to ask a waitress to give us dessert menu and she said, oh, you cant order dessert as the next reservation for our table is waiting for us to leave!!! We booked a 7:30pm booking and were assured that we had unlimited time ... <br/>Anyways the waitress went to check the booking and we got up to leave and she came back saying, 'please stay and we can serve you dessert, there was a mistake with the booking' we declined and left - as we were leaving they started to dance greek, was nice to see until they were dancing onto the road and ongoing cars had to dodge them, not a good thing on a narrow west end road.<br/><br/>Will not recommend, and will not go back,,, not impressed and embarrassed as a greek that this the impression this restaurant is portraying.

Great well priced and tasty grek fare.

When we went to pay cashier was rude. Waitresses were fine but we won't be coming back anytime soon - can't tolerate rude people! the food wasn't that good and they mixed up our order.
Sally
Food is great except the meatballs. They lacked flavour, completely. Suggest going for anything else on the menu.
Emme
Mouth watering. Had dolmathes for entree. They're an all-round favourite of mine. Tasted great. Only problem is they weren't served at the same time as my friends' entrees. They were just about finished their entree when I had to ask for mine.<br/>For main, had the lamb yiros on pita which I LOVED. The lamb was cooked til crisp - just the way I like it. The pita was divine. Loved loved loved it. Huge serving size. But managed to force myself to eat the whole lot. But again, my meal wasn't served at the same time as theirs.<br/>Friends enjoyed their meals too, and all agreed we'd make this a regular event.<br/>Next time will get onto them quickly to ensure meals are all served at the same time.

I Can Not Recommend.. Dined with friends last night.<br/>Entrées were prompt enough but tasted average.<br/>We had the main course forced on us before entrées were complete and were not provided main course cutlery.<br/>I had the Lamb Shank which was not bad but far from good. The potatoes were not cooked near enough, they were hard.<br/>Everyone else commented that the food was average.<br/>Salt and pepper grinders are so small they are difficult to manipulate. Extremely thin Napkins turned to mush in seconds. While the main course plates were removed the entrées were left and then insisted on us passing the plates to them as there is not enough room for the wait staff to move around the table while they could have easily waited for us to leave. These guys rushed us, they just wanted to go home and count the cash. The corkage was unacceptably rude as they touched one of our bottles and while opening it took a large chip off the lid. Did not fill one glass for anyone. Did not keep the water up until requested. The Kitchen is open and so noisy its hard to hear. People picking up takeaway walk straight thru the middle of the place dressed or should I say undressed in varying degrees. Food potions are ridiculously huge so you end up with wads of average food. All round this place provides a very unpleasant experience. End result. I do not recommend this place. At least I was lucky with the company that we provided for ourselves.

Good, but simple, Greek food. Dined impromptu at Lefkas last night with generous friends - Maybe our 5th or 6th visit to this establishment which has become somewhat of a local institution and is always popular - We were seated promptly, and the waitress quickly established who would be drinking to calculate the corkage charge - She did not open or touch our bottles once during the meal except to remove them from the table - Apart from that gripe, the food was good, but maybe not great - The saganaki was good sized, warm and soft when served, and the portion of melitzana was generous - My grilled quail were delicious, but covered in shredded lettuce as an interesting interpretation of the traditional Greek salad- The lamb cutlets and gorgeous yellow potatoes looked nice and ethnic and went down well, and were covered in shredded lettuce - The lamb shanks looked great from my side of the table, and my wife's spinach lasagne she tells me was fabulous - The service we could not complain about, the place is vibrant and noisy, just like it should be, and we left well satisfied - And someone else paid :) - Yeay! - We'll be back - and there's take away.

We had the skordalia dip with pita bread for starters and the stuffed eggplant and spinach lasagne with vegetables for our mains. The skordalia dip was nice and tangy and was delicious with the warm and fluffy pita bread. The mains were of large portions. The sides vegetable casserole was enough to be a meal of their own! The taste of both spinach lasagne and stuffed eggplant were unfortunately a little bit bland... As were the sides of veges. But I liked the fact that they were very much home style cooking and they were not overloaded with oil and cheeses so seemed quite healthy. What really was stand out was the service. The waitresses were always attentive and friendly and dropped by a few times to check up on us which we appreciated. There was live Greek traditional music on the Friday night we were there so the atmosphere was good. On the way out we had a look at their take away bar and they looke like they had some yummy and cheap options for quick take away dinner such as stuffed capsicum for $5. I'd definitely give them another go and try some of their other vegetarian dishes.

Food was tasty, however we ordered an appetiser that never turned up, and the owner seemed more interested in dancing with a birthday group than ensuring all customers were fed and attended to. Might come back, but there has got to be better service next time...

Had a good meal. Like the new Fitout. Service very friendly and efficient. Good menu and good food. <br/>Very pleasant experience

Worst restaurant. Visited this restaurant on Friday night. Arrived at 7.20 pm to join a group of 10. We were seated right in front of the night entertainment, so close I could reach out and touch the musicians. I could barely hear anything anyone said all night as the music was so loud. We couldn't move as the restaurant was full. I chose not to have an entree, but others on the table ordered some. That wasn't a problem as I thought i'd be hungry by the time my food came. At 9.30pm the mains finally arrived. Well that is except for mine. Somehow it got forgotten. By this time I had lost my hunger and was very very annoyed, so after paying our share of the bill, we departed. Absolutely terrible service and my husband's meal of slow cooked lamb shanks was very average. We cook better at home.

Great food and great service. This place is always consistent.. the food is amazing and so tasty.. The service is always brilliant, especially considering how busy they always are.. this place is always packed and now they have expanded there is even more room.. its a hidden gem and one of our favourites. love it, don't change a thing..

Pet peeve when restaurants neglect the toilets. Especially since they just expanded & did some renovations. Nothing special food wise & all meals arrived at different times.

Brilliant!. Lefkas Taverna- awesome vibe, delicious food and lovely staff! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, especially the live music on a Saturday!

One of the best restaurants I have gone to. Traditional Greek food made with love and so much flavour. I love the friendly atmosphere and the staff are amazing. This is a top pick place to go for a great meal and a great night.

Awesome!!!. Have been to Lefkas many times and keep coming back for many reasons. The food is amazing and very authentic. The best Greek food you will find. The service is great. The staff cater to all your needs. Great atmosphere, great food and great service!!! If you haven't been you better go!!!

Best Greek food in west end!. Lefkas Taverna has the most delisious Greek food I have tasted since being in Greece! The best Greek food in all of west end! Great atmosphere for social events and the service was great, I met the owners Johnny and Angela and they were the most lovely and welcoming people :)
Leo N Carolina Skouros
BEST GREEK in BRISBANE. Lefkas is the place to be if you want to try AUTHENTIC greek cusine in a nice quiet pocket of West End. The food is 100% fresh and made with love. My partner is never satisfied with any other greek food besides this restaurant. If you your halloumi, lamb, salads and sweets you will LOVE it here. Service is great, you will be telling all your friends :)

Worst Restaurant in the World. Where do I start! This is just a summary. Arrived on time at 7.30 pm (had booked). Placed at a table that had been used before and was filthy. Seated for 1/2 hour and no one had come to see us. Had to flag down a waitress. They had run out of wine glasses. Ordered other drinks that never came. Had to go to the bar to get them myself. Two of the six entrees came after 1hour 30 minutes! One main meal came after 2 hours to a person who had not yet received an entree! I went and asked to speak to the owner. He said "We're busy" and then muttered something else under his breath. We left! I have been to Europe, USA and Asia and throughout Australia and this is the WORST restaurant I have ever been to.

An absolute MUST try. My partner took me to Lefkas for a romantic dinner last Saturday night. I was more than amazed at the positive atmosphere and second to none customer service. I was blown away by the authenticity of the restaurant, I actually felt like I was in Greece. This is a MUST try restaurant with exceptional service and incredible pricing. The meals are massive so expect to leave with a button or two undone.

Great food, great atmosphere and absolutely excellent service! Friendly staff were attentive and efficient even though the restaurant was packed to capacity and our food arrived very quickly and was absolutely divine. <br/>Affordable, friendly and delicious- we will definitely be back!

Take it away!. The dine-in items are a bit overpriced, but the takeaway bar is fabulous! Always grab a few of the pita-breads that they sprinkle with their secret herb mix ;)

I don't get it, it's not that great! The service was good but the food was below average. The meet was dry and over cooked and no special care was taken to make the food on the plate look appealing.
Simon Fletcher
I ranted and raved about how good this place was... Went back tonight and it was horrendous experience! They brought everyone else's main out (which were the same as mine) and then told me they had ran out of Yiros... I had to reorder and wait while everyone else was eating! I eventually got the lamb shanks, which were just average! I wasn't impressed with the service at all! I won't be back!
Tish
Excellent dining, poor takeaway experience. After a disappointing takeaway experience I was rather hesitant to try Lefkas again, but grudgingly did so under social pressure. And I was pleasantly surprised! The servings were generous, full of flavour, good service and reasonably priced. The seating/setout is fairly basic and a little squishy, but otherwise I have no complaints!
Liz
My new favourite Greek taverna! Great value great hummus and pita and amazing yiros lamb and pita! We will be back!!!!

FANTASTIC! Best traditional Greek food I have ever had! This restaurant isn't fancy but the atmosphere is fun and happy! All the staff are run off their feet they are so busy on a weekend night this place is extremely popular. Food was melt in your mouth and so tasty...service was very friendly and efficient. They also do super cheap take away. This will now be a new regular!

Its gone off. Too many cloves. Haven't been here for about 3 months. Ordered the lamb shanks . Way too many cloves. Disappointed. flavour not there.. Very average. Price not average though.
Caityfox
Great food but sloppy service. Waited fifteen minutes after entree for drinks and then another fifteen for the bill. Waitress seemed interested in every other table but ours. Having said that, would definitely come back.

Love this place. Dined with a group of 8 and each of our meals were delicious! I had the lamb yiros with pita and salad and it was a very generous serving and full of flavor. Staff were very fast and super friendly.

Awesome Dinner and Great Service. Thank you

Bad location but great food in westend.<br/>Hope open 7days. Cheers
Yum Yum
Really delicious food. Service is great too. Eggplant dip and the dolmades particularly yum. Only down side is the noise factor. We had a seat at the back and on a busy sat night you can barely have a conversation.
Janey76
Never fails. We get here a few times a year and are never disappointed. Great food, great friendly service - always guaranteed an enjoyable dining experience. We take family and friends when they are in town and everyone loves it - I'm shocked that there are bad reviews on this place.
Con
Just returned from a night out at the lefkas taverna with my wife and friend. Ordered the tarama eggplant and grilled feta. The starters where ok pitta a bit greasy but fine. Then we ordered two lamb yirros and lamb shanks the yirros where tasteless and so too was the lamb shank my wife's shank also came with rice and roast potato. Now I'm half Greek with many many years in Greece and Greek restaurants this is by far not anything like a traditional tasty Greek restaurant it's just something that is put together with the knowledge of maybe it's done like this in Greece no its not lefkas and if you need advice just contact me your food is below par. I won't say a lot but people that think this is Greek food you couldn't be any further from the truth.
Jodi
Dined on a Saturday night. The atmosphere was fantastic! We really felt like we were in Greece. The two man band were the best. Food I must say was the tastiest Greek in Brisbane! Well done Lefkas. We will be back!

Disappointed. Lefkas has had good reviews so we went there for the first time last night. The service was good considering how busy they were and the Haloumi and Meze plate were delish. However, 6 of us were seated at a table clearly intended for 4, which made it difficult to eat. A wine cooler on the table and eskies at our feet completed the squeeze. It felt that they are trying to cram too many people in, and it was just too noisy to converse. The plate that my main (Lemon baked chicken) arrived on was too small so everytime I sank my fork in, food spilled out onto the already jampacked table. My dining companions all found their Yiros meat overcooked and dry. A disappointing dining experience.
Stone And Loaf
I went to Lefka's for the first time tonight, a Wednesday night. The restaurant was quite busy but we were seated immediately and made to feel very welcome. The waiting staff did an excellent job and if anything were maybe too efficient in terms of how often they checked if we needed anything (although certainly never pushy or rude - very friendly and professional). The dips and pita were delicious. Whitebait and saganaki entrees were good, not the high point of the meal (both were well cooked, so I expect the starting produce was maybe not of the highest quality) but tasty and no real complaints. The mains were great. Between the four of us we had the lamb cutlets, lamb shank, quail and cabbage rolls. All were very, very generous servings and very tasty. This is rustic, homely Greek cooking - very traditional. If that's what you want then Lefka's is the place to go. If you want fancy (and probably much more expensive/less generous) "Modern Australian" style Greek then look elsewhere. It was exactly what we wanted though, so my group had a great meal and very enjoyable night out thanks to the great service. Well done Lefka's.

Absolutely the best in QLD

Friday dinner. Went to Lefkas last night without a booking and managed to be squeezed in to an otherwise booked out restaurant. The atmosphere and service was great and the bottle shop next door made BYO easy. We shared a mixed platter including seafood, meats, haloumi and pita which was too much for us to finish it all. The meat was tender and full of flavour while the calamari and baby octopus were cooked perfectly. A bargain price, we got dessert to take away because it looked great but we didn't have room for it there and then.
Marmalade
An old favourite. I've loved this place for ever. We had our first date there 10 years ago - baby octopus, skordalia and taramasalata.... Love the pork lamb or chicken yiros, the haloumi is fantastic and still have a soft spot for the hotbox lemon chicken and potatoes that I used to scrape my coins up to be able to afford as a struggling student. It has become less affordable for us with the kids over the last couple of years, but we still love it.
MYFOODREVIEW
Will go back. I didn't mind this place. It wasn't overly expensive and the food was quite tasty. We didn't finish our meals, as they were so big. Noticed that they were really popular on a Friday night for takeaway - will probably try take away next time as it looked yummy.
West Ender
A fan. This restaurant is right down the road from me and one of my favourite's. Big fan of everything in their hotbox and all the desserts especially the Torta. It is always super busy and seats are limited unless you book in advance. However, if you are just getting items from the hotbox or can take the time to order in advance, you won't regret it. My one and only bad experience, which happened very recently (in the 2 years I have been going here) is finding a piece of plastic in my stuffed eggplant. However, as I said, this is the one and only bad experience in 2 years so it's not going to stop me going back or ordering the stuffed eggplant again.

Generous servings, not so generous staff. With a group of 15, we dined in on a Saturday night. As we were celebrating a birthday, we'd made a booking early on in the week. After settling in, the staff seemed to rush us to take our order and seemed disgruntled when some had difficulty selecting from the expansive menu. A few had entrées and, when the plates were being collected, were told to keep their cutlery as they 'barely had enough to go around for the night'. Some staff also made comments that they'd had a busy day and were struggling to make it through the night. <br/><br/>The mains arrived in a timely manner and I was impressed with the serving sizes. I ordered the lamb yiros plate on pita bread, and while it was enjoyable, I found it lacked in flavour. Overall, the majority of us only spent $25 (including corkage) so it was great value for money, however the at times rude service makes me hesitant to go back for seconds.
Catdog
My friend and I both got the stuffed capsicum and couldn't finish because the spice was over powering and not enough meat. Terrible!!
DianaW
Diana. Had great expectations for this place as it came highly recommended by our Greek relos. Disapointing start as our entres were not served together, evidently due to a mismanagement in the kitchen! (we were told) My entree was OK, had the eggplant, but thats where it stopped! My partner had the whitebait which we both thought had no flavour-bland. our mains were very generous but also bland. Greek food should burst with flavour (eg Little Greek Taverna) My partner had the lamb shank which fell off the bone but where was the flavour??? Also one of his potatoes were raw. I had the veg dish was Ok but again bland. We passed our opinions on the way out but I think they were not impressed with comments we made maybe they have become too blase'

Awesome food!. We went on a Friday night and the place was fully booked, make sure to book a table. We had hommus and pita bread, and the grilled haloumi cheese for starters, both were fabulous. Then for mains we shared a large greek salad and a chicken yiros with taziki and salad. Both dishes were amazing. The service was great, the atmosphere was great and the food was really delicious.

Even impressed a Veggo!. We took our relatives, who are visiting from the UK, out for dinner last night. One of them is a strict vegetarian and the staff at Lefkas were more than happy to answer any and all questions. She enjoyed the stuffed capsicum while the rest of us dined on Lamb and Pork Yiros, Cabbage Rolls (my favourite), Moussaka and the Greek Baked Chicken. We left very full and extremely satisfied! We are regulars at Lefkas, and Johnny and his staff never disappoint. Best Greek outside Melbourne!
Noelpower89
Disappointed. The Pork giros was fine and mousaka poor but the biggest dissapointment was the service and attitude of one of the waitressess there. My wife is Greek and we get asked all the time for the best place to eat real Greek food in Brisbane, but no way can we say that this place lives up to some of the reviews. Sorry for the truth but better to say it and save somebody from a dissapointment.
DiningDiva
10/10. This place really topped my expectations. I first went before it had been renovated and was still a little dingy with a hotbox at the counter and I wasn't expecting great things but the food is amazing! Staff are super friendly and attentive. The place has now been renovated and expanded, meaning prices have gone up a little but it's still worth it. The meatballs are my favourite, so much flavour!!!
Jamesmfildes
Did not like!!!. The food looked good when brought to the table, but the lamb cutlets were far too salty and on telling the waitress this I was informed that it is the marinade process that makes it salty. Thanks for the info (if not told in a condescending way), but I know the difference between salty and inedibley salty. The next waitress advised me that the lamb had been left in the bottom of the barrel too long causing them to become overly salty, but no refund was offered still, instead I was given (once I'd paid) a lamb chop as I was about to leave (so the chef could prove he wasn't completely inept). On refusing this offer, as I had begun to leave, a staff member was rude to me and my party yet again and on leaving I could still hear her insulting me further to her colleagues. My fathers stefado was dry as a bone, which was due to too much rice and not enough sauce and the meatballs were at best 5 out of 10. Do not come here if you want anything other than the abuse and poor food!!!!!

Excellent Greek Food. When you arrive at 6:30pm on a Wednesday night to a packed restaurant, with a small queue already stretching outside the door, you know you are onto something good. We were lucky enough to get a table within a short period of time and the food was just fantastic. Delicious taramasalata, grilled haloumi, greek salad and lamb created a delectable feast and I look forward to going back for more Greek delights.<br/>Food: 7.5 / 10<br/>Service: 7 / 10<br/>Ambience: 7 / 10

Melbourne Buzz in Brisbane. Went there with 3 girlfriends on Friday night. Atmosphere was fantastic. Very busy - lots dining on big tables outside.Aromas great - reminded me of Melbourne. Food and staff excellent and didn't even cost very much. Will definitely recommend.

Best Greek in Brisbane!. I love their gyros takeaway - cheap, huge and delicious!<br/><br/>Still great to eat in too, just a bit more pricey. Fantastic authentic greek food made by friendly greek people.
Alan Muxworthy
A million people can't be wrong... On a Wednesday evening, 7 pm, you wouldn't necessarily expect any restaurant to be crammed full. Lefkas Taverna was - loud, happy, satisfied customers, both eat in and takeaway, enjoying a wide range of excellent Greek food. The Yiros and Haloumi were outstanding in quality, quantity and price. Very good service with a smile. I should imagine a Friday or Saturday night would be quite a spectacle..
Lotuseater
I love Lefkas!. Went there for the first time last week, ordered the lamb cutlets and salad. The lamb was delicious! I haven't eaten lamb in a while but damn it was good. Grilled baby octopus wasn't too bad either and the haloumi was fantastic! Tried some of the boyfriend's lamb shank and that was also fantastic. Tender and juicy. The staff are a bit strange but I can deal with that.
Imogen1989
The BEST Greek food!. There is a reason I keep going back to Lefkas, the food is fantastic! You won't find anything else like it in Brisbane. Lefkas is always packed and for good reason too! Make sure to book any night of the week and you can expect a lively atmosphere almost every time. Lamb is definitely their specialty. Just delicious!

Absolutely fabulous. I have heard about Lefka's through some of my friends, so while travelling through Brisbane (I am based in Melbourne) I decided to pop in for a meal and WOW I WAS SO IMPRESSED!!!! I had the halumi and Taramasalata for entree and shared a lamb yiros and calamari for my main, also for desert I had a torta. Admittedly I over ordered but every bite was delicious and I left full and satisfied. The restaurant was totally packed out, but a young bubbly waitress found me and my partner a seat and showed great service! Having time to even have a chat. It is a little loud but I believe it comes with the atmosphere of the place, staff were happy and had a welcoming vibe. <br/>Very recommended, will be returning.

Once were great, sadly no longer

Overrated!!!. This place is incredibly overrated. I had dinner there in October 2011.. I had a booking but no staff were available to show me to my seat. The waitress forgot my order (after she had confirmed it a 2nd time) and my meal arrived 30 minutes after the rest of the table. I had to get my own bottle of water because the staff 'were too busy' to bring one when I asked politely.. and then they tried to overcharge me. Okay food, but I've had better.
Hayley
Boiled rice not nice. First attempt at Greek food in Brisbane after being spoilt in Melbourne. So disappointing. The rice pilaf was not pilaf..it was boiled rice. The lamb was dry and gristly. The whole experience was a massive letdown and we certainly won't be going again.
Ian R
Pretty good. Great as a takeaway, not as brilliant for dine-in.
Nikos
Disappointed. Went along to Lefkas having read good things about it. Always keen to try new Greek places .... however, was rather disappointed by what I experienced.<br/>Once past the takeaway counter and into the actual taverna, there was a distinct smell of bleach in the air - rather off-putting but was willing to set this aside in anticipation of the Greek delights on offer.<br/>The menu was delivered and my wife and I spent some time deciding what to eat. Teh selection of food on offer was very good and all sounded delicious.<br/>We ordered and the first dish was duly delivered. 2 slices of grilled haloumi. OK but nothing outstanding. Maybe the main dishes would deliver? Sadly, my Baked Greek Chicken didn't amaze or delight. Consisting of 2 legs, lemon potatoes (OK but not outstanding) and a pile of rice, it wasn't really anything to write home about. My wife's Lamb on pitta with Tzadziki and salad ( mostly lettuce and a couple of slices of tomato) wasn't really that much better.<br/>Our meal was accompanied by raucous laughter and loud conversation from a table about 10 feet away - not the tavernas fault but didn't add to the enjoyment of the food.<br/>We decided not to have a dessert but went to Baskin Robbins instead.....<br/>Sorry - but we won;t be back!

Yessssssssssss. Haven't been here for a while as have moved away from the Area but for a while there it was a twice weekly tradition. Food provides a taste sensation second to none! Full of flavour and well presented, whether eating in or taking away. From Entree to Desert the entire meal is very satifying. If you havent tried a Yiros from Lefkas I recommend dropping whatever you are doing and get down there!
Mmmpork
Chicken yiros yumm yumm yumm.. Love this place for takeaway on a friday night. Not a big fan of some of the other meals at they can be quite oily, but chicken yiros is always good.

I wish there was an I LOVED IT button. Great food!

The real deal. Lefkas Taverna feels like every good taverna I've ever eaten in, in Greece. The food is authentic and truly delicious, portions are generous and prices great value. Definitely the best Greek food in Brisbane. Even though it's not in the hub of West End it gets packed so be sure to book - even on weeknights.

Opa!. Absolutely beautiful home cooked food.<br/><br/>Will continue my patronage here!

Lack of warmth and poor quality food preparation. My family of four and I dined at Lefkas Greek Taverna on 6 November 2010. We reached there at 8 pm as per our booking. When we were asked to sit on a table outside on the footpath, right in front of the bus stop, I requested for a table inside because of the cold weather and the noise and smoke on the footpath. But the woman, who apparently was the supervisor declined the request stating in somewhat officious tone that that was the only place available. For the next 90 minutes, we sat uncomfortably in the cold (none of us was wearing woollens/jackets) and the smoke from the BCC buses and other traffic was terrible. I again made a request for a change of table, but it was declined. The food was substantial in quantity but very basic in taste. However, the worst were the desserts. Two of our children felt sick almost instantly after the chocolate drink which I reported to that same woman whose behaviour was very "unGreeky." All in all, I am afraid the Lefkas was a big disappointment, spoiled our evening and we have decided never to visit it again. I say this with deep regret because I have found Greek people to be extremely friendly and hospitable, but Lefkas do not seem to care about customers' comfort or the Greek way of treating guests!

Awesome kebabs!!

Never disappointing always great food and service. A true institution for West End. Great value for money try anything.

Love the halomi cheese. I have tried several grilled halomi cheese in brisbane and I found the best here! I ordered chicken on pita, the size is so big and taste quite nice. But the octopus dish ordered by my friend was not so good because it is not much flavor. So many beautiful photos of Greece hanging on th wall and make me want to travel there more.

Absolutely wonderful souvlaki. Best tasting meat platter around. Very good value for money

Very good food, relaxed atmosphere. My favorite were grilled octopus and grilled fetta. The place is BYO and the bottle shop is next door. I will definitively go back there.

Great potential. I'll be back, but on this occasion the otherwise beautiful food was all over cooked and dry. The service was also noteably nice. Such a shame they were too busy to manage quality control.
Cyprien
Got here early on a Thursday (6:30) and was seated at the back in the corner. No worries though and when we left it was packed spilling out onto the sidewalk plus 2 large parties inside. Staff was helpful & courteous. I got the grilled baby octopus & my wife got the lamb cutlets (we weren't hungry enough for the large lamb shank). We had haloumi for starters. Mine was good but perhaps overdone by a minute or so. Very tasty. The lamb was also good but perhaps too salty. Portions were generous and satisfying. Will be back at some point no doubt but have a lot of places on the list
Jazc
Excellent value. Servings are generous, food is tasty, the atmosphere is casual and friendly. sometimes flavours do get a little overpowering but overall, thumbs up.

Brisbane Legend!. If and when Lefkas ever closes its doors, Brisbane will have lost a true classic. The servings are generous, the food 100% genuinely Greek, and the atmosphere is robust and completely unpretentious. I've been eating at Lefkas for almost two decades and can honestly say I've never had a bad time here. Not for the uber cool, Lefkas is for anyone who wants a great feed for a good price in a warm environment. One of my favourite all time Brisbane gems!
AB
Top food. Interesting billing.. #1, visitor, and #2 with a booking for 7pm. We had the platter for two but upscaled it to "for 3". Took a bottle of white and red. Food very good as usual. Sweets consisted of a baklava. Only issue was the interesting billing. It's normally $49 for platter for 2. But platter for 3 came to $87. Go figure. Not overly happy with that big question mark.

Not expensive at all for good food. Truly yum. Taramasalata all the wayyyy

To eat in can be a tad pricey- but their takeaway is not only cheap but TASTY!!! The hot box out the front is filled with sensational mouth watering goodies that suit a hungry and budget concious consumer!

We’ve all been there. You might be saving for a wedding (Kirst), an overseas holiday (B and Kirst), or a new car…but regardless of what you’re saving for or how tight your budget is you still don’t want to sacrifice your social life. Enter the humble BYO restaurant – otherwise known as the socialising saviour! These are our favourite BYO joints around town, so grab a friend and a bottle of wine from home and pick your spot. Rhubarb Rhubarb , Wooloowin Fancy french cuisine and BYO can go together and Rhubarb Rhubarb is the perfect example of it! Confit duck and Creme Brûlée wish some BYO champagne  make for the perfect celebratory dinner or date night…you can impress without blowing your budget…you can thank us later. Sings Asian Kitchen , Rosalie  Sings is quite possibly Brisbane’s worst kept secret…and in our opinion one of its best takeaway and BYO Asian restaurant.  They serve up a mixed menu of Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai Food so there is plenty for everyone. Our pick? Green Cocon

On this occasion we had the grilled baby octopus and the calamari lightly floured and fried for the entree.  It was about $20 each.  I normally also order the home made dips in the past - well worth a try as well.   For mains, we ordered a mixed yiros with a combination of chicken, lamb and pork - the holy Trinity of meats!
FoodMeUpScotty
There is something just perfect about the marinated pork that is first cooked on an upright rotisserie, then grilled to perfection just before being assembled. The tzatziki with the hint of garlic matches perfectly with the sweet meat, which is wrapped in a perfectly cooked flat bread and filled with fresh lettuce and tomato. Just perfection!

I recently discovered this fabulous gem of a restaurant in West End and if you haven't been to this terrific place, then you should - it is called Lefkas Tavern Greek Restaurant. I knew we were onto a winner, when it was absolutely packed at 6:30pm on a Wednesday evening, the take away line was out the door and it was fully booked. The waitress must have seen my devastated facial expression, because she squeezed us in.

A visit from some old friends at a very happy time of their lives prompted an outdoors Greek lunch. We began with two dips, homous and skordalia, the latter consisting of mashed potatoes flavoured with garlic and olive oil and looking for all the world like something omnivores would eat with sausages, but much more flavoursome; pitta bread and a bowl of beautiful dark olives were also on the table. Then we moved on to lemon potatoes, cooked with a hint of oregano, Lefkas salad (a typical Greek salad of tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and a few leaves of rocket), and delicious moist dolmathis (vegans beware, the sauce poured over these is based on yoghurt; in the Middle East tahini would be used.) Greek cuisine is one of assertive flavours and some oiliness, two characteristics that a glass of retsina would complement nicely. Some people find its tastes a bit strong, but this was true of no-one at our table,

Lefkas has been around for a long time, since 1991. It's a restaurant that provides traditional home cooked Greek cuisine and a place that I had wanted to visit for ages. Having always held a deep fascination for traditional Greek cuisine, the other travel bunny and I arrived at this restaurant situated at the bottom of Hardgrave Road in West End on a busy Friday night. The place was filled with foodies. We wasted no time in deciding on what to eat and immediately ordered. We had haloumi cheese ($6.90), grilled eggplant ($8.50), skordalia dip w' pita bread ($8.50) and grilled quails ($19.90) for entrée. And haloumi cheese ( χαλούμι) , OMG, do you really need me to say anymore about the cheese? It is highly recommended, a must try. (**beginning of a bunny's gibberish ranting** okay, I know this might sound a lil' strange, but haloumi with watermelon is a really good combo for the summer months. The main ingredients required are haloumi, watermelon and fresh mint, hmmm I should d
Brisbane Devoured
On my lonesome, I had the lamb yiros, served on pita bread with greek salad and tzatziki ($19.90), a basic and homely meal. The lamb meat was well marinated and very flavoursome. Unfortunately there was a massive amount of tzatziki amongst everything which was quite overpowering.

I was glad to have a renewed positive experience at Lefkas, this time for lunch nearly 4 years after my initial visit. The service was friendly and best of all, the food was plentiful, fresh, flavoursome and fun to eat. I hope it doesn't take me another 4 years to make my next trip.
I Don't Like Cooking
I know this might sound strange, but I ended up dining at Lefkas Taverna http://lefkas.com.au three times in two days, by accident. My first visit was for a quick lunch by myself, the second because my partner wanted to try it for lunch the following day, and the third because while eating this lunch, we were watching restaurant staff set up some staging for entertainment that evening and decided we wanted to see it. This taverna boasts linen tablecloths, a reasonable wine list (including Greek wines) and excellent service. The entertainment on a Saturday night is boisterous and fun, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a quiet and romantic dinner. The pita bread is marvelous, the horiatiki salad good (tomatoes unripe), the spanakopita is huge and chock-full of filling, and the calamari excellent. On my second visit there, my partner and I shared a Combination Platter for 2. This was plenty of food and all wonderful. The third visit to Lefkas Taverna coincided with my birthday. There were f

Lefka’s is one of many Greek restaurants in and around West End – found at the bottom of Hardgrave Road in the bank of restaurants which contains Mondo Organics, Cantina and Caravanserai. It actually feels more like Ya-Ya’s kitchen than a restaurant – wit
Food Bling Brisbane
Excellent, tasty, fresh Greek food at low prices. If only there were more restaurants like this in Brisbane.
Monkylicious
Lefkas Taverna is a lovely little place in West End with simple, delicious Greek food. I’ve known about it for years but sadly don’t get to go there very often. Hubby and I recently took his sisters there for dinner and Claire has now told me she goes the
