Really lovely, fresh food but for the portion sizes I really do think it’s overpriced. Went there for my birthday and the staff were lovely.
Meal: Chef’s omakase
Overall: 4/5; will be returning in the future.
Pros: beautiful plating, and good pacing of the omakase. Highlights were the scallops, tacos and tempura. The spicy tuna was actually spicy, and the wagyu had great condiments.
Cons: food descriptions were rushed and unclear. Tacos arrived before scallops were cleared from the table. The salmon was not made to be easily eaten with chopsticks and felt jarring in the omakase sequence. The dessert fell flat, with no signs of creative flair.
Had a celebratory dinner with my partner and loved the place! Food was absolutely amazing, sashimi tasted fresh. Beef tataki was smooth. Personal favourite was the grilled duck with the mustard sause and pickled sides. Most amazing combination of taste I ever had. Pork belly was tender and the dessert was spectacular with a unique combination of flavours. Would definitely go back again (:
Food is so fresh and delicious! Absolutely love this restaurant.
We have the opportunity to dine at this highly rated restaurant on Melbourne Cup Day with TheFork’s 50% voucher. Warmly greeted on arrival we are helped through the Food and a Drink Menus by Ans. Phuong Tran enjoys her Pink Blossom Cocktail and lunch is served within 20 minutes.
* Large Sashimi is beautifully presented. Every item on this platter is fresh and delicious
* S Express Sushi Roll has fresh Scallops and Cucumber wrapped by seared Salmon and a drizzle of Unagi sauce. Freshly prepared with fresh ingredients, the S Express is a great sushi roll.
* Sashimi Tacos is served with cubed Salmon, Tuna and Kingfish topped with a tasty Tomato Salsa. These refreshing Tacos are enjoyable.
Ans suggests we should try Sake’s two popular desserts.
* Dragon Egg is their Signature Dessert that looks spectacular when it was presented with billowing steam from the dry ice. The white chocolate Egg sits on Passionfruit Cream in a bed of crunchy Almond and is served with a hot Caramel sauce. We love this dessert!
* Perfect Pavlova is a spiral meringue filled with miso curd, fresh fruit, peanut brittle and whisky ice cream. A different take on the traditional Pavlova which is refreshing.
Overall, a very enjoyable lunch and the service was friendly and helpful. Well done!
Made a weekend dinner reservation with the partner to make use of TheFork's 50% discount deal for the set menu, "chef's new classics."
The new set menu included:
- Sashimi moriawase: fresh tuna, kingfish and salmon.
- Unagi bao: crispy unagi between soft, fluffy bao. Delicious!
- Steamed dumpling duo: nice juicy mixture of kimchi and pork, although the dumpling exterior was a little doughy and chewy.
- Karaage: crunchy karaage chicken, not oily.
- Dynamite makimono: delicious roll of fresh tuna sushi with a nice textural crunch.
- Grilled barramundi: fresh, however mine was unfortunately under-cooked.
- Miso soup and steamed rice to share.
- Miso creme brulee: delicious and well-done with crispy top and smooth custard. Nice mixture of sweet and salty.
Friendly and efficient service. Prices on the higher end, comparable to fine dining. Without the discount, it would have been about $98 per head. Large, classy restaurant area with a smart-casual ambience.
Overall, a lovely menu. Unfortunately, a couple of hiccups during our sitting.
We had the degustation. It was out of this world! I would definitely recommend you try this out least once. Great service and food came out at a good pace which made for an enjoyable experience.
Explored this awarded winning restaurant with the Fork's promo at the end of March. It was a pre-set banquet night. It includes nori crisps, hiramasa kingfish, grass-fed beef tataki, pan seared kimchi gyoza, tempera snapper, house salad, spicy dynamite tuna and nihon nemsis. The whole banquet was delicately prepared by heart. Combination of dishes reflects chefs' passion to showcase as many signatures as possible. We have no doubt to say "yummy" on each dishes; however, if the dessert can be presented more Japanese style than it would be perfect.
Rating 4.5/5
Sensational position in the Eagle St pier precinct and the food and service to match, unfortunately you pay for the privilege and don’t expect a cheap night out, is it value for money ???? Jury is out in that one but I would say I would go back - enjoy
Fantastic and alert staff
Great selection of food
Very very pricey but I guess you pay for quality!
Was very difficult getting a table without a booking
But all in all a great experience and I’ll be back when back in Brisbane
Well done
We ordered the Omakase Degustation Menu and were so happy we did! Creative Modern Japanese Cuisine, a kind of menu that kept you guessing and surprised you when you actually took a bite. Beautifully setup, comfortable atmosphere. The staff and restaurant had the perfect mix of casual and sophistication that's expected in a modern fine dining experience. Pricewise, average for a fine dining Degustation Menu, allthough I found the wine pairing to be unnecessarily expensive. Also, my Coedo Beniaka Craft Beer was a lot more expensive than back home in Melbourne.
Much impressed and will be glad to recommend this restaurant as a must do for a Brisbane visit. Well done and see you again soon!
Simply brilliant, a gem in Brisbane city. The food, service and setting are a must visit in town. This reignited my love for fine Japanese food and sets the standard
A friend took me here for my birthday and it was the first fine dining place I’ve ever been to. The customer service is amazing, as it should be! They were very thoughtful and extremely nice and attentive to everything. The food was amazing, it was cooked perfectly. The popcorn roll and the s express were a delight. I’m usually picky with my sushi but I had no problem eating it all! I loved how tender the pork belly was and the teriyaki chicken. Will come again!
Last week, I went for a holiday in Brisbane. Being a foodie, I naturally tried to look up for good restaurants to dine. We stumbled across Sake Restaurant & Bar on Zomato as it had a high rating and was the only Japanese restaurant among the top ranked ones. As someone who hasn’t really had much experience with Japanese, I followed my friends’ recommendations and opted for the Chef’s Omakase menu, that somewhat resembles a degustation menu. It was not cheap and I had very high expectations.
3.5-4 starts out of 5. Great place to take someone you want to impress and don't care about cost - their sashimi platters, sushi and nigiri platters are very impressive, beautifully laid out and use fresh good quality fish as you would expect for a high end restaurant. Unfortunately, I've been going here for 5 years and know what it used to be like which was 5 stars all the way! However, service, food, value went downhill after Neil Perry's restaurant group bought the Sake restaurants. It's not cheap and you may be ignored by the staff. I still keep coming back, but its usually a corporate booking and I've learned to be pretty obvious in trying to get the attention of waiters. Small pointer to management - staff should be interested and attentive. Also, I shouldn't have to tell you this but offer your diners a drink as you seat them! Its a very simple easy way to make an extra 15/30/50 dollars per booking! Don't seat me, give me a menu and then ignore me for 10 minutes. It's just simple business management and if I were the owner or manager I would be very unimpressed to know my staff weren't offering customers a drink as soon as they are seated. Sushi rolls are good, I just order a bunch of them - S express is my favourite with scallops and salmon. Popcorn shrimp is a standard, hiramasa kingfish is good but getting smaller by the second. Agedashi tofu is good, nori crisps are tasty and actually have a fair amount of fish.
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Ambience and decor were lovely and we were seated at a more traditional style Japanese table which added to the experience. There were so many things we were keen to try on the menu and we almost went for the chefs omakase option, but in the end chose a selection of dishes to share. Started with endamame, the kingfish double crunch sushi roll (ok), hiramasa kingfish (lovely), popcorn shrimp (tasty), Nasu miso eggplant (nice), agedashi tofu (not a big fan of this particular dish), miso caramelised toothfish (very nice, but ridiculously small for the almost $60 price tag). Finished off with the miso creme brûlée which was ok but nothing special. This restaurant is very reminiscent of Nobu, although the food quality/flavour for me is not on the same level. Service was professional (other than the waitress at the end who took our cash payment and asked me if I wanted my $10 change back which I thought was very forward & borderline rude considering we had already paid $250 for the meal). Portion sizes are a lot of times minuscule (the toothfish really was a bit of a joke at how small the piece was for the price), but if you can look past this, Sake is a nice restaurant to come for a special occasion.
Scallops here are a must try. Definitely returning for more. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Reservations recommended for meals. Dishes are surprisingly filling
Fresh food, great flavours and diverse menu. Lots of great sake & the set menus were plenty of food. Service was not amazing to be honest - had to wait about 15 minutes before I could get someone’s attention. Quite expensive but with it for location + food.
Ordered the Chef's New Classics and it was perfect. The food was fresh and even though I'm not a big fan of fish, the sashimi and toothfish tasted great. The service was very friendly and polite. Couldn't drink because I forgot ID so they offered be a soda instead.
Will definitely be coming here again.
If your looking for a nice romantic Japanese fusion dinner, then this is a good option. Ambience/atmosphere couldn't be better with a stunning view from where we were seated. Food was amazing with well worth the fine dining experience. We especially loved the seared tuna ($35). Other dishes we ordered include the spanner crab sushi ($23), s express sushi roll ($23) and the wagyu strip loin ($75). Wagyu perhaps on the pricier side and slightly underdone in my personal opinion but tender/juicy.
Lunchtime bento is a good value way to sample restaurant and is delicious. Fabulous service. Good but expensive wine list. One of the better restaurant options in the Eagle St Pier area.
Great setting by the river for a nice night out. Food is always great, a little on the expensive side for the portions but is on the fine siding side of things so understandable, notably the tooth fish which is amazing but very small size for the price. The tataki beef is great, also loved the pork belly will be back for that again.
Amazing service and even better food. We ordered truffle white soy snapper; spider maki roll (soft-shell crab) ; s express (scallop inside with seared salmon (?) on top); buta no kakuni; miso glazed toothfish; seared yellowfin tuna; light vanilla cheesecake with yuzu and black sesame; miso creme brûlée; and nihon nemesis. The miso glazed toothfish was particularly exquisite; perfectly cooked and was so soft it melted in your mouth. The desserts were great if you don't like overly sweet desserts. Everything was delicious. Lovely ambience as well. The only slight downside was the portion sizes which were quite small but we kind of expected that. Overall a great night.
Great food and service. Not every day the fusion style works. But I think Sake has the formula right. There were elements of good authentic Japanese sashimi mixed with local QLD flavours. It has really impressed me in how they have decorated the place as well.
Great food, great service a must if your visiting Brisbane. Prices higher than most but worth it. Has great bar and I take most business partners there when they are in Brisbane.
Staff were very friendly and helpful with working around dietary requirements.
Service was very quick for an early dinner seating, meals were all very tasty.
Have been here for lunch and dinner. Huge variety of meals and drinks menu is impressive. Sushi rolls are massive! Interesting combinations but delicious. Good for any occasion with nice decor and efficient service when its not packed out.
A girlfriend and I came here for dinner on a Sunday night which wasn't too busy (no reservation needed). The staff were nice and efficient with service. The food was so delicious! Expensive so it's what you would expect but a lovely dining experience. The sashimi was amazing and the cauliflower dish is larger than expected.
If you're looking for a fine dining Japanese restaurant with a good selection of saké and japanese beers, this is the place for you. We ordered the Sushi set and Karaage Chicken for starters, Teriyaki Lamb Chops for mains and Nashi Pear Tart for dessert. The starters were quite delicious, the aburi on our sushi set was lightly seared with a nice smoky flavour and a dash of gourmet sauces to spice up the pallette. The Karaage chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, the flavours in the batter was nothing sensational, however well seasoned and coupled with the preserved lemon mayonnaise, was delicious. The Lamb chops were very well prepared, however the portion size was a bit less than what I had expected. The Nashi pear tart was quite refreshing and flavoursome. The textures of the dessert worked well and the whiskey ice cream was suprisingly enjoyable.
The place had a good calm vibe to it with a fusion of japanese and modern australian themes. Good place for date night or just a dinner with family or friends. The service was excellent, the staff were knowledgeable about the menu and promptly responded to our requests. The food was well prepared and served timely.
Sake has been on my must-try list for a long time, and I finally tick it off from my list!
From the ambience to the dishes to the drinks, all "wow" "wow" "wow"
When walking in the restaurant, you could feel the Japanese ambiance at once. I thought it was not that spacious, but when the waitress led us tot turn into an alley, there was still another dining area with tatami or just usual tables and sits.
Every table has a vase of flower on it, and the waiters and waitresses were nice and attending! Never let your table be jammed with empty and finished dish plates.
Ok, come to food!
Highly recommend the wagyu strip loin/medium rare is the best!! Every piece is pinkyy in the middle and charred on the skin. The roasted aroma together with the tenderness and freshness, absolutely sensational!
Next must be the Hiramasa king fish! Actually, it is quite similar with Chinese steamed fish with ginger and chives, but this is the raw version, but the flavor and the tenderness gain is amazing!
Nori crisp is also quite special! On top of the seaweed crisp, it is the diced marinated king fish. It tastes so good!
Classic sashimi combo is classic, fresh and yum!
For drinks,
We followed the recommendations and chose Miss Wednesday and Hattori Hanzo. Hattori Hanzo is quite different cuz it is kind of spicy, worth to try!
If you are looking for a fine Japanese restaurant, must try this one, I think it is another level compared with Sono
The last time we were at Saké the Masterchef judges strolled in and started ordering up big. We decided to follow suit and order plenty of dishes to get the true feel of their extensive menu. We weren't disappointed! Every dish was delicious, flavoursome and all with surprising amounts of texture! Our tip - don't skip the sushi or dessert, you will be pleasantly surprised.
Pricey but food and service is first class. Location is great but not the views of the water I expected as other restaurants here have, Reccomend ordering a selection and sharing.
I have rarely enjoyed Eagle Street pier meals. There are only a couple worth recommending. Like Georges, Kingsleys and Jelly Fish. Others are over priced and over rated. I went to Sake for lunch with a colleague and the food and service is amazing. Japanese with a twist and we kept ordering.
Amazing food and service each time we have visited. The staff are always so attentive and knowledgable around making recommendations on what to eat or what is a must try. Great pricing for a good night out.
We only stayed for some cocktails and entrees but the little that we had was superb! Although it is quite a pricey venue it's well worth it for the whole experience. The service was highly attentive, food was incredible quality and the cocktails were delicious and a completely unexpected surprise of flavours! Will definitely return for a full meal and would highly recommend.
We've been to a few Neil Perry restaurants and been disappointed. Not here!! Food was brilliant. We had a picky lunch with a bottle on wine. We are heading back shortly to explore more of the menu for dinner ... see how things go :)
Love this place, my partner and I have been here a couple of times and each time the service gets better. We tried the set menu and were not disappointed... Beautiful food which we will definitely be back for!
Went here for dinner late last year. Had an amazing experience. We had a lovely waitress who was very helpful and friendly. They could pretty much do the whole menu gf which was amazing. We ordered quite a few plates from all over the menu and we were not disappointed in one. Would recommend for a special night out as it could get a bit pricey for just any night.
Had a very enjoyable dining experience at Sake. We tried the chef choice menu, started off very strong with a great sushi selection. Very fresh ingredients, great temperature and the rice was delicious. We had the tempura vegetables, they were disappointing, too heavy and oily. But the wagyu and the barramundi both were absolutely delicious, both cooked perfectly. We did have to order some more dishes though the 6 dishes for $110 were not as satisfying as we thought they would be. They had a great selection of drinks available, the service was pretty good as well. The seating was a bit silly, had to sit next to an annoying couple that continued to complain about the seating arrangement. Whilst the staff continued to assure them there was no where else to seat them, whilst tables continued to stay empty throughout the entire night. I would go back if their pricing was better, way too expensive for some good sushi.
This was the second time that we had visited & the food was just as good & service even better.
Our waitress, Daisy made all the recommendations for our dishes from entrees to mains to cocktails & she was spot on. We enjoyed every burst of flavor!
Will definitely be back for a third date.
Simply the best Japanese in Brisbane city bar none and in mind mind on par with "Sono" at port side.
Sake hasn't got the decor of Sono or the private traditional paper booths with floor seating, but what is lacks in venue staging it makes up for in the food. Simply the best sashimi platters and great value for money considering the status of this restaurant.
The service is as expected in such a venue. They handled our group booking well and kept the whole groups drinks refreshed without even having to be called over. The staffs knowledge on the dishes was above average and we took a few recommendations on and loved the ideas.
It's a great place to order a dozen starters and share with 6 people, mains aren't essential if you want an informal shared arrangement and this allows for a wide gamma of foods, flavours and textures tonne experienced.
Love Sake, one of the best in Brisbane
What can I say. That morning we booked for 5 people. We were greeted by the staff they were very friendly. Lovey food by lovely staff. Highlight was the black angus steak and sesame sauce. Cooked perfectly just melt in your mouth goodness. You definitely have to try when you eat here.
After some great recommendations from family and friends, I decided to take my family to Sake for dinner.
Located at Eagle Street Pier, the view was great with a wonderful night view of Story bridge. The general layout of the restaurant is wonderful. With a large open kitchen at the back and an overall dark wooden finish on the furniture, it is a great fusion between Japanese and Western decor. Perfect fitting for a contemporary Japanese restaurant.
Upon arrival in a group of four, the four of us were ushered to a table of four with only two available seats and two random strangers already sitting there. Not a good first impression from a fine dining restaurant.
We ordered the Brisbane Chef's Selection Omakase. Through out the whole meal the servers would come out and place food it on the table. If we were lucky, they would just mutter the name of the dish under their breath which we could not hear. No explanation of what was on the dish or an appropriate way of approaching the food.
Luckily for us, we were fortunate to have Kira around. Kira was very knowledgeable about all the dishes as well as how they were prepared. It definitely heightened the dining experience. Without her at Sake, we would have rated the service as terrible (1 out of 5). Kira definitely is a gem in the front of house staff which Sake is lucky to have as part of the team.
As mentioned before we ordered the Brisbane Chef's Selection Omakase. We could not say anything bad about the food, it was fantastic. The stand out dish for us was the Black Angus with Yuzu Truffle Cream. It was cooked just right. It was tender and juicy. Every bit oozed with flavour. The Yuzu Truffle Cream accentuated the flavours in the mouth. The fresh scallops were as advertised, super fresh! The dessert of white chocolate & liquid nitrogen dragon egg as well as the western-styled Chawan-mushi made with vanilla and fruits was a nice finishing touch to the prior savoury dishes.
Overall, the food at Sake was fantastic and would return to sample new menu items. However, the experience was let down by the service provided and would make us think twice.
Awesome Japanese food. Really good. Well worth a visit. Love their cocktails. Great for dates......😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆😆
S express roll without the cabbage thing consisted of seared kewpie and salmon which was absolutely delightful. Karaage chicken and the Korean fried chicken roll was tasty as well as the spider roll which consisted of soft shell crab in a citrus dressing. Popcorn shrimp was delicious and the beef carpaccio was good. Cocktails, especially the one with the strawberry and rose petal was very pleasant.
If you're looking for a nice place for a special night out and love Japanese food, Sake at Eagle Street Pier is the place to be. I've been here several times for work functions, girls night out and when I have friends visiting from overseas, I would take them here. I love the menu and my favourite so far, the quail dish, the green tea creme brûlée, roasted pork belly, lime sorbet and of course the salmon taco served with sake. The atmosphere is lively with a beautiful view of the river
In a city that is full of Japanese eateries it can be difficult to find a standout, but it has been found. Saké. Looking over the Eagle Street Pier dining precinct in a slightly secluded location next to the Bavarian Bier Cafe, Saké offers a modern insight to the wonderful world of Japanese cuisine. This is immediately noticeable from the elaborate furnishings which comprise a mixture of a bar with typical high table and bench seating, restaurant table seating, a handful of sunken group tables with cushion seating and bar-style seating around the kitchen. The walls and ceiling throughout are graciously filled with Japanese artefacts and artwork.
If you're looking for contemporary Asian food with a fine dining feel then look no further. What's good about this place is that the atmosphere is really quite nice but it's not pretentious. The food here was really enjoyable and the dishes have their own personal flare to them which is a nice change from your standard Japanese cuisine. It's not the cheapest which was to be expected, but the food quality is outstanding. The staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about the dishes but service can be a little slow during their busy periods. Go and treat yourself here once in a while, I can't wait to head back and try more dishes. I would highly recommend the Darling Downs wagu.
This was the third time I ate at Sake and had just as good an experience as the first visit. Our booking was confirmed and we were shown to our table. Water and menus were delivered immediately. We ordered a bottle of sparkling rose to share and perused the menu. We began with jalapeño kingfish, salad, Edemame and scallops with ponzu. Each dish was beautifully presented and enjoyed. Next to arrive was salmon sashimi , karage chicken and popcorn squid. The popcorn squid was a highlight- tasty, moreish and exciting. After this we shared tempura vegetables. They were in a light crunchy batter and came with a picante dipping sauce. To finish we each ordered the chocolate nemesis with raspberry and honeycomb. This was a fabulous dessert and highly recommended. Unassuming and professional service. For a great night out with exceptional japanese Fusion food you cannot beat Sake .
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
+3.5
I've been to Sake four times and have had mixed experiences. The sushi and sashimi is fresh and well presented, but very pricey. They used to serve a pork belly bun with a homemade pickle (radish?) that was amazing. Unfortunately, it rotated off the menu. I like to grab an Asahi at the bar before my meal and then finish the meal with a few Japanese Whiskeys at the bar after. They have a good selection of Hibiki, Hakushu and Yamazaki.
Great food, atmosphere and interior. Is probably not the best option for children - not a lot of options. The location is perfect on the Brisbane river in Brisbane City. The only fault with this place is the staff. Some of the staff are slow and rude.
Great location on the pier, Sake is always a great experience. Love the food presentation. Yum! Popcorn shrimp and miso cod are always winners!
Dined here with high expectations! And didn't disappoint!
The food was amazing, but unfortunately didn't take enough nice pictures to upload!
The drinks however, looked amazing! Hence why they're here!
especially loved the sour yuzu, delicious!
Hope to come back here soon!!
I thought it was a bit over priced. The food wasn't outstanding but not bad. Service was lovely, the waiters/waitresses' seemed very professional. However, I would expect better from Sake.
The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are very professional and informative. They have a great understanding of the menu. It was pretty expensive but that was expected. We ordered popcorn shrimp tempura and it was absolutely delicious. If we were to go back we'd probably order 3 serves of it. I also ordered the barramundi main. Albeit it says crispy skin, the skin was not crispy. The fish itself however was cooked well. There was probably too much teriyaki sauce which drowned the flavours of the fish. My partner ordered the chicken teriyaki main. The chicken was cooked perfectly however it was very plain. There was no flavour. I also ordered salt and pepper tofu. The tofu batter was nice and crispy and the tofu was silky but it would have been better with some sauce (like agedashi tofu). Overall it was good but not great.
Great location on the pier, Sake is always a great experience. Love the food presentation. Yum! Popcorn shrimp and miso cod are always winners!
I recently dined at Sake for lunch for the first time and everything from the food to the service and cocktails was outstanding. By far the highlight for me was the Kingfish Jalapeno, served with yuzu soy, the fish was so beautiful and fresh. The Salt & Pepper squid with cream yuzo kosho was super tender the full of flavor. I also sampled some of the cocktails and they were divine. Sake would have to be one of new favorite restaurants in Brisbane.
Extremely high quality food and service. The atmosphere is fantastic and the fish tacos are amazing.
One of my favourite Japanese restaurants in Brisbane.
Slick Chef Extraordinaire. Gangster Of Food.
+4.5
Massive thumbs up to the Chefs and front of house staff. It is always an absolute pleasure to dine at Saki in Brisbane. I love all of the cheaper more casual Japanese eats around Brisbane but if you are looking for something that is a truly special and memorable experience, then look no further. Saki truly is something special.
The food is descent, but maybe not that worth for the $$ paid. Love the grilled, sushi roll. But the sushi combination is so so. The scallop with miso and tofu, is great, so does wagyu.
Being from Melbourne I have been spoilt for amazing Japanese restaurants. We decided to try Sake on a whim. We were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and attentive, the food was amazing.
Next time I visit Brisbane I will be back.
Had rather high expectations for this restaurant as they're always mentioned by foodies. My partner loves Japanese food, so I reserved this restaurant for his birthday, thinking the food would be nicer than our usual go-to joint.
Service was excellent as you walk through the door, and we were promptly seated. They took our orders quickly and food arrived in a reasonable timeframe. We were surprised that the waitress got not one, but two of our orders wrong! You don't expect that in one of Brisbane's nicer restaurants.
Serving sizes were abysmally small despite the price - we had to ask for the menu to order more. The food itself was quite delicious (albeit not spectacular). The snowball dessert was probably my favourite.
My wife and I recently dined here for our 12th wedding anniversary. The atmosphere was excellent and we got a seat next to the window. The food was fresh and delicious, although the sashimi and sushi were on the small side of portion size, esp for what you pay. However, overall thoroughly enjoyed our lunch meal here and certainly would come back for more!!
Beautiful! Japanese food that is better shared. The raw fish dishes are to die for. My table had the salmon carpaccio, edamame, wagyu tartare, the vegetarian sushi, soft shell crab sushi, sashimi tuna and salmon tacos with sake, fresh oysters (highly recommended), popcorn shrimp and our favourite was the tuna ceviche.
Easily one of my favourite restaurants in brisbane, great setting and service.
Reserved a table with a view, a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were attentive & knew about the dishes to make recommendations. The flavours were amazing. For $120 between 2, this experience is more about attention to detail over portion size, one for those special occasions.
Almost perfect service. Most staff knew a lot about the food and drinks on the menu and could aid in your selection. I loved the 'progressive' style eating where all dishes appear as they are ready. You end up tasting so many different flavours and concoctions without feeling stuffed before you've gotten to your second dish! The food was impeccable and without fault. Price was exactly right for the quality - if anything it was cheap considering! I will be back soon!
food was really nice and the place is relaxing. Took kids there too and they really enjoyed the toothfish main course and snowball dessert..
I have heard all good things about this restaurant so my friends and I were really excited to try this place.
Food was pretty good although I thought It wasn't the best I tried. I am a big fan of Japanese cuisine and this western twist didn't do me best. But still, nice restaurant with great atmosphere. Pretty expensive too!!
Went here with a group of friends for my birthday and was really happy I chose here. The restaurant was very noisy and busy which created a really fun and sociable atmosphere
The finest contemporary Japanese restaurant in Brisbane by a very long mile. What you pay for is what you get - and Sake has some of the most delicious food I have ever sampled. Having been taken here on a first date many years ago and returned multiple times since, the highlight was experiencing the set menu banquet on Christmas Eve last year. My favourite menu items would have to be the kingfish jalapeno and popcorn shrimp. This restaurant is Brisbane at its finest!
Dont forget to try kingfish jalapeño if you adore sashimi, that's a starter dish. Also, dining experience is superb because of the attentive waiters and waitresses who are always there to help you.
Nice Japanese food in Brisbane.
The sake selection was awesome! And they have some of the best sake in Brisbane. Would recommend anyone who is a sake drinker.
The service was great!
Best for special occasions and date nights. Make sure you book the window seats with the best view, only 3 available.
Romantic and super modern interiors. Very fashionable lighting design and table settings.
Delicious food, thumbs up!
A wonderful fine dining experience at Sake on Eagle St! The service from the staff were excellent. Food was delicious and so flavoursome. Would have been perfect for couples, or even group gatherings!
Been to sake a few times, never disappoints, food is really tasty, but on the expensive side. Nice decor, it's overall a pretty nice Japanese restaurant!
Private room area is the best for dining. Prawn dumplings are amazing, sashimi combos can be hit and miss. Usually disappointing serving sizes for the cost -annoys me every time but overall do really like this restaurant, and recommend!
Have been to Sake twice now, and most recently for their Cherry Blossom Festival dinner special for this September. The food here is amazing. All so fresh and beautiful flavours. Only issue is that it's not cheap, and a full meal with drinks will probably set you back $100+ per person. But man will you be happy afterwards! Delicious!
Intimate dining experience with great service. Always busy and with many different seating options from normal seating to tatami seating. Food is excellent and fresh and the wine and cocktail selection is good!
Great location, awesome atmosphere, and of course amazing food! Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the Snowball dessert is something I highly recommend ordering!
This place is definitely oozes great vibes. My experience is a combination of great food and great service. I asked the waiter serving us last night recommendation and he was very honest on his personal likes and what's popular in the restaurant. We went with his personal choice and ended up loving everything we ordered from sashimi combo appetisers to sake signature menu and drinks. The place is beautiful and toilet was very well decorated and clean which is a something I always want to see in nice fancy restaurant. Overall my friends and I had an awesome time.
I L❤️VE this place so much!! Great atmosphere, service, food and accompanying saki. Great to go for a catch up with a friend, group of friends or work colleagues.
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about Sake. Service was the best I've experienced in a long time, our enthusiastic waiter knew the menu like the back of his hand and offered us a mouthwatering dining experience. Loved everything about this restaurant and cannot wait to come back and do it all again. Thank you Sake!
My second favourite Japanese Restaurant in Brisbane. Different styles all together, but each plate that comes out has great passion and thought put into it. Fresh ingredients, a great selection of sake, cozy atmosphere and friendly service. A great restaurant for special occasions.
Great food and service. Dined here last night and was pleasantly reminded of how good the food here was. We had the tuna and kale, dynamite roll, tempura and some spicy veggies. All the dishes were perfectly flavoured and left us wanting more. The service and staff are great.
Sensational service with a side of fantastic food. I'm not sure what I enjoyed the most, wining & dining at the sophisticated Sake restaurant or thoroughly enjoying their exceptional service which flowed perfectly right from the moment we entered & up until we walked out to Eagle St Pier. We were greeted & welcomed (without a reservation too, whoops) into the bar where the lovely gentlemen said he would seek out a spot for us. Within minutes he ushered us right over to the Chef's bar, one I would normally stay clear from but he sold it to us as we walked over there. In the kitchen were at least 8-10 staff prepping, greeting & just welcoming our company. It's a hot spot to sit within the venue, the bar seemed to fill up not long after we arrived. From there our waitress was always within reach & would happily chat & fulfil our silly questions about the dishes we were given as we opted for the special "Omakase" service - head chef creates your dishes service, for those willing to try & please do! Fresh & immaculate dishes served right from the chef's hand whilst in full view, what more could you want? Sake, one to take fellow friends & family to leave a lasting classy but fun impression.
From the exquisitely designed restaurant... to the well thought out, and tantalizing menu...(not to mention the most killer selection of Sake in Brisbane!) We never pass up an opportunity to indulge in all things Sake. . So when we were invited along to check out the new Autumn menu, you can imagine how excited we were.
Every time we come here the food & service is just brilliant, this time was much the same. Got to be one of the best places in Brisbane for fresh quality food, but hold on to your purse as its also expensive. Won't stop me from going back though.
Great night thanks to Sake Master. We dined on a Monday evening and had the Chefs set menu. We loved the food but our night was excellent thanks to the 'Sake Master' as we called him. This gentleman went out of his way to introduce us to new sakes and we appreciated his knowledge and enthusiasm, and the time he spent with us on a busy night.

Good service, great view, standard menu. Tempura was nothing special. Value for money scores average. Wine list starts at $70. Would have scored higher but I found bones in my sashimi.
Fantastic!. Chose to have dinner here due to word of mouth and was not disappointed! Whilst not the cheapest option the food was delicious - especially the wagyu beef gyoza! (We ordered extra!) the staff were pretty good although it was difficult to get anyone's attention when it became busy but otherwise they were friendly and happy to give their opinion on dishes. Recommend the gyoza, tempura prawn and jalapeño kingfish! Yum :)
Whoa - Authentic Japan with a Twist in flavour!!. Bought both 88pp packs - sak'e choice and brisbane best chefs choice.
what flavour combinations they were - all of them delicate and beautiful. took me back to japan easy as! but there was one dish that i was surprised with - the calamari with a type of hot sauce, never was that done in japan, hot i mean. thank you sak'e for that!
then what a great selection of rice wine which i had 4 of, a shochu highball - absolutely delicious!!
thanks, will be back again when next i have money lol. it aint cheap to eat this way.
Yummo. Not our normal place to have lunch but it was fantastic. Food was to die for, was a bit hesitant when it first came out but the flavours they pack into their food were wonderful. Really lovely staff and the restaurant looked nice. Would go back again for sure
Good quality and fresh. Firstly, to people on here commenting that 'Sake isn't as authentic as Sono' and listing it as a negative, maybe its worth doing some research into restaurants before going to them. Sake is giving a contemporary twist on traditional Japanese. All it takes is a quick look at the menu to notice that so don't be surprised when you go to the restaurant expecting something else.
I had dinner here last night with a small group and the food was great. I wouldn't say the portions are large but the quality is worth it. Will definitely be coming back for the chicken karaage and salmon belly sashimi. The decor is beautiful and the tables are a good size, big enough to get some share plates on but also not too large so that you feel like shouting to the person at the other end.
Service was good, not over the top but definitely of a decent standard. I can imagine the place would get very busy on a Friday and Saturday night so things might slow down then but on a Sunday everything was quick and efficient.
Definitely give this place a try.
Food is always lovely at sake as are the cocktails! The service is a little slow and we have often had to ask for drink refills.
Amazing. We've been twice now and it is my favourite restaurant. The food is heavenly and the service exceptional. Do yourself a favour and treat yourself to this dining experience, you won't be sorry.
Jaimie and I were served on the 8th of October by the loveliest girl- Caitlin. She made our experience at Saki unforgettable as she provided us with laughter all night. Dinner was great, highly recommend the chicken katsu!
Sensational. My experience with the restaurant was a really good one. We had 7 dishes and 2 cocktails between us and it set us back $200. Certainly not a type of restaurant you go to everyday but more like for special occasion. Having said that, you can still fill your stomach with just their main which would cost you under $40pp. But hey, there are too many interesting things on the menu since they're fusion Japanese.
The must have dishes, we highly recommend, are Kingfish Jalapenos and Wagyu New-style which is thin slices of wagyu beef seared with hot oil dressed with Yuzu dressing and toasted sesame. If you have been to Sake before and haven't tried these two dishes, please go back and do yourself a favour. They were amazing. We also had Sashimi appetiser, Ikura Scallop, S express, Patagonian toothfish lettuce cups, and, to finish our meal off, Assorted Tempura. You can find better tempura and similar quality sashimi somewhere else but the rest are pretty special. To our surprise, the prices of sushi rolls here are not far off other places offering fusion sushi at all. Service was impeccable. Our waitress was pleasant and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who seek taste buds tingling sensation and a good time. One of a kind.
Great food and service. Best Japanese cuisine in BNE
7/10. Although fresh and good quality, the food is pricey and very small portions. My friend and I were still hungry when we left which suck after having sent so much. We enjoyed everything we ate except the mushroom salad was really oily.
Came here with work colleagues after a meeting and it was fantastic. The only drawback is that I'm a much bigger eater than my colleagues so even though we ordered 6 dishes due to the small serves I left hungry. Food, service and atmosphere are top notch though.
Amazing Japanese. I only come here when i'm ready to pay for a huge bill (or the boyfriend is haha). Melt in your mouth sushi, fresh sashimi, best dumplings, amazing cocktails and wines on the list. The staff need to be a bit more a tentative and would be good if they could bring the cost down a tiny bit for some the items on the menu. The downfall of "fine dinning". But it is a real treat with an intimate setting that is nice when you need a night out.
Beautiful Valentine set menue. Delicious okura puree with tuna as entree and the fresh spring rolls which wrap spanner crab, green pawpaw jalapeno shiso and served with spicy mango salsa, just one bite, mouth full of flavour. Very impressive! Slow braised wagyu cheek werced with rice. Wagyu is perfectly cooked and tendest ever. However, the sauce itself is little too salty, even mixed with rice, still water is needed anytime. Presentation of deserts is divine. Cocktails are awesome.Definitely we will go back again.
Went there for dinner on Tuesday Night. Great atmosphere, very friendly staff, amazing food. My favorite was the quail dish and even tho we were full the maitre'd made sure we order dessert. She did a great job there. The momo dessert was divine!
We will definitely be back
Simply amazing.. I've dined at a few Japanese restaurants over the years. Some were good, some were average, and some were great. But honestly, Sake' is in a league of its own. The service, presentation, and taste is second to none. There is a real artistry to Japanese cuisine and the chefs at Sake' are some of the most talented I've ever seen. I've eaten at both Brisbane and Melbourne restaurants and both were equally impressive. Highly recommended for lovers of Japanese food.
Good food but unknowingly charged $18 for water!!!!!. This was the second time I'd been to Sake, and this time found it an overall enjoyable experience. I would go back but make sure to check the bill VERY closely.
The Good: The meals came out quickly, were fresh, and good to have a range of smaller dishes to share between friends.
The Bad: Table was under freezing cold air con. Only looked closely at the bill after we had paid and left already, to find we had been charged $18 for WATER - we were never offered tap/still/sparkling on arrival, the waitress automatically poured us still water at $9 a bottle without us knowing. No reasonable person would accept this so we were quite angry we weren't offered a choice at the start. Also a bit sneaky to include a non tax deductible $2 donation to some charity also on our bill without consent.. Be careful.
We had lunch at sake and liked the staff and the food. Would definitely go back and recommend
Everything is good but a 45mins wait to get in. Luckily it's got a bar on the side to spend time in. Make sure u don't go alone.
Lovely. Great view, great food, service, atmosphere, and the décor and fit-out is amazing too! I absolutely love Japanese food and this is up there with the best. It can end up being a little on the expensive side though, so save it for a special occasion :)
Fantastic food.... Really awesome food but a bit pricey for the quantity.
Would have been better suited to a degustation I guess than individual plates with $$$$ and get mini entree size portions.
Delicious food, interrupting staff.. I visited sake recently for my birthday with family. Being a lover of Japanese food I was very excited. The food did not disappoint! I had the tofu experience for my entree, which was really delicious. It consisted of salt and pepper tofu, a silken tofu salad as well as agedashi tofu. I had tenpura vegetables as my main which included tenpura avocado! *yum*. There were two vegans among us and they were catered to with no worries. The yellow fin tuna was another stand-out of the night.
My only problem with Sake was the fact that the staff wouldn't leave us alone! There is such a thing as being too attentive. They were constantly interrupting conversations by asking us if we needed more drinks what seemed like every 2 minutes and leaning over us to wipe the table, collect plates etc while we were still eating.
However that said I would still return to Sake (for special occasions as it is on the dearer side) because the food was so great and it was such a lovely spot on the river.
I love the ambience of Sake, I like the contemporary twist in their food and in general, I like the service. It is expensive, however, it's definitely worth it. We had a huge selection of food (a few birthdays combined meant extra indulgence), and our recommendations were to scratch. I love that it's food that I would never make at home (I can barely even pronounce some of them), but I extremely enjoy eating. That is what made my experience at Sake a really enjoyable one - the uniqueness of the concept and drive behind the restaurant.
If you are looking for something a little different (contemporary Japanese cuisine), I would definitely recommend Sake. It's perfect for a date night, for a small group of friends or just for a drink at the bar - definitely check it out!
Oh wow!!! I've been to the Sydney Sake, and heard that Brisbane is better, they don't lie, it absolutley is! We had 11 dishes in all and every single one was fresh, exciting and made with care. The standout for me was the venison tattaki, tender seared venison, zingy dressing, and popps of pickled cucumber. The mixed sashimi was so fresh and watching the Master carve it was theater. Other standouts the raw wagu with sesame and the "seafood cocktail" with dashi jelly. We were fortunate to be sitting at the bar that wraps around the kitchen and watching the team in action added to the experience (other than the couple next to us that we're enjoying "tounge sashimi" between courses). The waitstaff rounded out the experience by being proffessional, friendly and efficient. Definatley special occasion, but totally worth it.
Great modern Japanese. Like it's Sydney sister, Sake turns out delicious and fresh modern Japanese. Its an attractive space looking over the river, and several private rooms if needed. Go to dishes - the sashimi, the beef tataki, the prawn dumplings, the miso-barra cups, and the panko rice balls.
Over priced. Well established restaurant, great design / set up inside.
Food is quite over priced but high quality.
The highlight here was probably my cocktail 'natsu'
We only ended up here as we were on our way to sono but it ended up being closed. We were set on Japanese fine dining so we settled on sake. Service was excellent- the waitress was extremely helpful. My partners sashimi platter got top marks and I had the tofu experience for an entree which was delicious. My pork belly main was good, but it didn't blow my mind. All in all, a good experience but Sono still wins my heart for a fine dining Japanese experience
Sake was by far the best restaurant I have ever experience, the place was amazing the service was perfect was a unreal experience, must try !!!
Good night. We went there in a busy Friday night. Only call them I half hour advance, they managed give us a table. We only half 45 mins for dinner. Everything just been put on the tale within 10 mins. Overall, very enjoyed.
However, wrong dish been sent on the the table few times
Highlight was Mont Blanc!. We went to Sake on Friday night. Service was good, attentive and not over the top. I had Kiwi Chu-hai and Lychee Chu-hai both with Mugi Shochu, I enjoyed them both.
Seaweed Salad was perfect start to the meal, Karaage juicy and tender, Prawn dumplings full of flavour, Pork Kakuni tender and flavoursome. Didn't think much of Ikura (salmon roe) nigiri, the roe didn't have much flavour.
The highlight of the meal for me was the dessert, I had Mont Blanc which was divine. Smooth chestnut paste with light vanilla mousse and crunchy caramelised walnuts along with rum ice cream...yum yum yum!!
They are breaking flavour traditions and winning. Hailing from Brizzie and being relocated to Perth for work, I love coming back to Sake when I can. I dinned last week and was greeted with their winter menu. The Chef Selection and Signature Banquets are well thought through. Chef is breaking from Japanese flavour traditions and adding his touch with products such a lamb artichokes beetroot and he is winning.
Only disappointment is each time I go (been a regular since its opening) I have anticipated and expected to be offered a matched Sake /Wine pairing with each dish. This is lacking for Sake and perhaps they should consider this. That said the wine and sake lists are adventurous and extensive. Service is attentive. Wait staff wont be able to help match your sake with dishes. Bar staff will, but that takes a little time. This place is a little pricey but your mouth and eyes will thank you.
Fabulous!. Absolutely love this place. Awesome fit out, great service and excellent drinks list. The pork belly skewers are amazing, and the tuna steak is always on my order when I go to Sake. Gorgeous Japanese fusion food, with beautiful presentation. Consistently good, I keep coming back. Prices are reasonable for the location and quality too. A great CBD spot!
Good food, drinks and service. Went to Sake for a friends birthday and we got one of the set several course menus (can't remember which now it was a while ago). The food is excellent, very fresh and beautifully presented. Was a bit worried that there would not be enough because the first couple of courses were very very small but ended up leaving very satisfied. Tried a couple of the cocktails and they were very nice and different. The food is on the pricey side (considering the portions are quite small) but worth it for a treat.
Excellent service - best I've had in Australia in over 2 years! Food was delicious and was expertly paired with sake by my friendly server. I will definitely be back!
Saturday Night Delight. Immediately taken with the tastefully simple decor and great view, we had pre dinner drinks in the bar. Guided by the knowledgable barman, we tried sparkling jelly with much hilarity and enjoyment.
After moving into the dining area, we were attentive attended to by our lovely server who gave meal suggestions and which were spot on.
The shared plates which arrived quickly and constantly were delicious.
Overall was a fantastic night and a really great experience.
Great place for a Japanese experience. A little expensive but one of the best Japanese restaurants around.
I have eaten here 3 times and found the service and food faultless. They are one of the few restaurants who will actually take the time to explain everything on the plate in detail when they place it down. The food is amazing! not cheap but its all high quality. It's good to see a restaurant who cares about creating an overall experience and have all their staff on board with this!
I cannot fault this place. Incredible food. Happy and helpful staff. Lovely venue. I wish I lived here so I could go regularly.
Absolutely incredible!!!!!i would recommend this place to everyone!!!!has every section to cater any occasion, romantic, after work drinks, casual dining, catch up with friends, family catch up, whatever it suits!food, service, ambience provides!fresh produce, you can tell the chefs are professionals by the quality they put out, love love love it. I'm from Perth,I wish we had this there xxxxxxx will come back for sure xxxxxx
Excellent evey times. We love our sashimi mixed with sea urchin.. The waiters were exceptional... Cocktail were top of the class...
Great for corporate lunches. Great restaurant for corporate lunches. The private dining rooms makes for easy conversation and ensures you can talk about business without worrying about people overhearing. Clients love it. The food and service is fantastic. The drinks menu is great. Overall a great restaurant.
Very well executed. The fit out at Sake is superb, especially the private dining rooms. The food, service and sake drinks are just as good. I couldn't fault this place. Divine. Heaven for japanese and sake lovers.
Excellent customer service, delicious fresh food, fresh mocktails/cocktails and hardly any waiting time for meals. Definitely a new favorite.
Can't give enough praise!. Utterly delicious! I love Japanese food and this is no let down. The crumbed pork belly medallions are amazing, i could eat 10 plates! Cocktails are also a delight- highly recommend the ume blossom! Enjoy this place, it is a real culinary experience!
Simply Unreal. Bar Staff were attentive and helpful and the food was amazing. Ill definitely be back!!
Tasty tasty little tacos. Went to Sake a little while ago with family and friends, so had quite a few people. Probably should have had a snack before I went, as the meals are very small and also very pricey. The flavour combinations for a lot of the meals is somewhere between japanese and mexican (in my mind anyway) and as these are my two favourite cuisines Sake definitely came out a winner. The jalapeno kingfish is so tasty, as well as the tuna tasting plate and tuna tacos. The decor is great, though inside can get pretty loud when busy, the staff were fairly attentive and did a good job considering it was getting quite hectic at times. A return visit is definitely on the cards.
Excellent service, attentive & prompt. Great food, loads of choice. Recommend the chicken teriyaki!
Amazeballs!. 10/10 for food
10/10 for service
10/10 for atmosphere
I can't express how delighted my two girlfriends and I were with our first experience at Sake. The food was to die for and the staff were, professional, engaging, and had a wonderful knowledge of the food and drink menu.
I would recommend saving for a trip to Sake, just so you can try as much as possible. It's not the cheapest restaurant but totally worth it! The beauty of the menu is that it's designed to share and therfore you get to taste more.
We sat and ordered little bits at a time so we didn't get too full and found that it was the best way to go. Also by ordering as you go you don't get a cluttered table.
Can't wait to go back there!!
Great atmosphere. Well. compare to the restaurant I went last week (Dami Japanese Restaurant at Mt. Gravatt) this one has really fancy deco on their dishes... of course the price tells the story.
Honestly, the freshness and taste of the dishes are not very different to 'Dami' but Sake has broader range of menus and of course the location is great...
I shouldn;t compare these two places, but I can't help it. those two are the most recent impressive sushi places I've been thesedays.
I would try the local one at the Mt Gravatt more often as I started fall in love with them but I WILL come back to Sake for more formal occasions.
Good to invite some business partners here for lunch or two.
Ok been to sake twice last time was for ma birthday. All I can say is this has to be one of the best Japanese fusion fine dining in Brisbane the staffs were friendly, had blue fin sashimi because they were in season wasn't on the menu. Had the banquet for bday. Everything's cooked to perfection. Only downside is it won't be easy on the wallet. But definitely recommending this to anyone who's after fine japanese fusion cuisine dining
Amazing and inventive food. The modern and interesting take on traditional Japanese food at Sake is amazing. The chefs prepare your dishes and send them out in the order that will best complement your palette. Each dish looks and tastes beautiful. They also have a pretty big selection of sake. Really good, attentive service and lovely decor and atmosphere. The portions are small, so you generally need to order a few dishes to share and taste between a couple of people. Expect to pay at least $150 between two people (before drinks) to get the most out of it.
Love it...... A cool little Japanese restaurant that serves fresh and quality food. I have been a few times now and have found the service to be really good, food excellent, and prices compatible to other similar quality restaurants.
Good jap. Very professional and well trained customer service. loves the wagyu beef screwer, great fresh meat. 'panko rice ball' is very unique, not oily but a good flavoured deep fried dish that must try. excellent food presentation, sushi ingredients are fresh. in general, must give good credits to this restaurant.
Great food and beautiful decor. Some dishes however are quite small considering what you pay for them! Waitstaff very friendly and attentive. Will be back.
Dessert only.. This place is very chic - in a warm, earthy, Japanesy kind of way. I really appreciate the effort that has gone into the decor and the service is almost unparalleled; however, the portions are so small that I would have had to spend a fortune just for the food to touch the sides of my stomach. Soooo... I passed on the savouries and went straight to the desserts, which I think were around $16 each.
Anyhoo - we ordered several different desserts (over a couple of different trips) and found them all to be quite artistically constructed. They all tasted wonderful - although I have to say the crisp apple dessert (can't remember the precise description for the life of me) was quite a standout. I feel that these desserts fall into the 'innovative' category.
Verdict: Excellent place to come for your evening nightcap/dessert. You may need to wait a little while especially in the busy time... but it's worth it!
Great service and fantastic food. Kingfish with Jalapeño is a must try.
Was a positive experience- we had the chefs selection set menu which I think enhanced our experience- I would recomend this option to make the most of the menu. From scallop starters to amazing ocean trout, pork dumplings, lovely sashimi each course was great.... And you have to love it when just the look of desert makes you say ooooooh ( and the taste matched it)
The service was good, some waiters better than others but still above average- however above average I'd to be expected for the price.
Interesting drinks menu, we left feeling that it would be good to return some time to eat in the bar and sample some different drinks!
Recomend for a night when you are willing to spend to get great good and service.
Sunday Lunch at Sake. I had high expectations given Shaun Presland's reputation and the restaurants price point. I love Japanese food and have been several times to Japan so I have experience with the authentic and the Wapanese versions of the cuisine. My initial impressions were good. Service was great, we were seated at a window table for 2 overlooking the river. Meals were delivered quickly, but the restaurant was almost empty. Panko balls (think Risotto balls with shitake mushroom) with wasabi mayo and the panko-fried pork belly balls with Japanese BBQ sauce were for entree. Outsides were crisp and insides were volcanic (temperature) hot - so mind your tongue. Flavours and textures were nice, but not explosive. I expected the Pork belly to be a piece of meat, but instead was ground or minced and had little texture (or flavour except the BBQ sauce). Next was the sashimi platter. The fish was fresh (as you would hope) and was accompanied by my concoction of soya sauce mixed with a touch of wasabi. All was as it should be. Mains were the Quail galantine and Beef Sirloin (with spring onions and mushroom in a ginger soy sauce) dishes. We had to Google the meaning of galantine and the pictures seemed to indicate something like a terrine, however it was hot and more like a sausage created using the de-boned Quail and stuffed with the ingredients. Both were nice but my Quail ?thigh? had a sharp point where the bone had been cut. Finally we decided to have dessert. I ordered the Chocolate Garden which had an associated story whereby the inspiration of the dish was derived. Whilst the dish was palatable enough and the flavours were complimentary, I was disappointed by the presentation. At first glance the dish appeared to be a high-class dish, but the 'chocolate sand' (which I'd interpreted as something akin to Milo) was in fact a cubed chocolate brownie. Which in itself isn't an issue, obviously I've been watching too much of Heston Blumenthal and his liquid nitrogen... but either the brownie didn't lend itself nicely to a clean finish or an apprentice did the cutting because its appearance along with the semi melted quenelles of white chocolate gelato let the appearance down. On the up side there was some interesting alcohol infused gel scattered through the dish to offset the rich sweet brownie. Of course we also had a 'shot' sized glass of sake to accompany the meal which was quite nice. Writing now I realize I forgot to order the Umeshu (for which they had several varieties) which I got a taste for on a JAL flight to Japan a few years back. Maybe I'll have to go back to the bar some time and see if they serve it outside the restaurant.
Bottom line: service was good, food good but not as great as I expected or nor particularly memorable.
Good food. Location and atmosphere was great. the staff was great and the food was pretty ok. Some of the dishes I do wonder if their were a little over priced, but, being there with a bunch of friends at a setting like that.. it was a great night.
4 out of 5!
Superb. My party of four wandered into Sake on a Saturday night on the off chance we could get a table for a quick and early dinner and we were immediately seated and treated to a wonderful dining experience. We opted to share a range of starters to enjoy a variety of dishes: sashimi appetiser, wagyu new-style, panko rice balls, edamame, crispy chicken karaage, pork katsu, and steamed prawn dumplings. Everything was simply delicious, full of flavour and beautifully presented. Service was impeccable - the food came out promptly, and our waiter was attentive, knowledgeable and so friendly. The decor is elegant and the whole place strikes just the right balance of refined yet relaxed. Couldn't have been a better impromptu night out!
Excellent food and service. Had the signature banquet, loved everything about it.
Dined with ease. Great simple japanese food
Great atmosphere, we had the a banquet menu (no raw fish one due to my partners phobia) and although the dishes were all yummy - thought it was over priced for what it was. Loved atmosphere & service was great so will return to try alacarte menu at some stage & see if this is better option for me.
Slight disappointment. We deceide to take an interstate friend here as we love sake! We called to make a reservation for 8:30pm we were offered either 8:15 or 9:15pm we opted for 9:15. Upon arrival we were told to make our orders as the kitchen was closing, the whole meal was pushed out quickly and the dinning experience was over in an hour. Prawn dumplings were not fresh. Whilst sashimi plate was delicious.. Front of house let the dinning experience down, and a sour taste. Don't offer a late booking if the kitchen is closed!!
Well done Lewis in looking after us. Loving the sake bombs!
Great food. The set up and atmosphere of Sake is definitely worth checking out. The food is of an extremely high standard. Meal sizes are quite small, and it's not cheap, but no Japanese is, and it's definitely worth it!
Had the most fabulous experience at sake! The food was delicious and the staff were lovely and on the ball. I'm always a bit wary of eating chicken in restaurants due to a bad experience but the chicken karage was heavenly and same with the chicken teriyaki!
Exquisite experience. Dining here was a fabulous experience - we had the Chef's Signature Menu with a few extras and the food was beautiful - delightfully presented, flavoursome, different. A thoroughly enjoyable, albeit a little expensive, evening.
Spectacular japanese fusion. Wow wow compliments to the chef. I went with a large-ish group, and we all ordered from the menu rather than opting for a banquet. Everyone was blown away with every single item. The scallops ikura were the best scallops I've ever had, the karaage was superb, the pork belly skewers ditto, doft shell crab ditto, sashimi ditto. You get the picture.
Our waitress' temperament ranged from indifferent to outright rude. She had a real problem from the second we walked in the door... Either she hates her job entirely or she hates dealing with groups. Either way, no reason to take it out on the diners. Despite her snide remarks, condescending tone of voice and so much eye-rolling, she got the job done, and she came far from ruining our night. We loved the food, the decor is beautiful, atmosphere very pleasant (except for this waitress) and will all definitely be back. Although if they continue to allow staff to treat people so rudely I imagine our opinions will start to slip.
I Don't Like Cooking
+4.5
There was some confusion with our orders initially. Two of us wanted mocktails and the waitress asked what type as there weren't any listed on the menu. One of us said citrus and the other said fruit/citrus. Of the two that arrived, one was berry and the other fruit, but they were okay.
Two beers were ordered, only one arrived.
I ordered tempura scampi and tempura vegetables arrived.
This was fixed quickly.
I think our waitress was a bit clueless. We started catching the eye of a better waiter whenever we wanted something and the service got a lot better.
Love the food!
Hats off to Chef Shinichi. We had Chef Shinichi's signature tasting menu. It completely blew us away! The degustation started off with a fresh sashimi platter. It was the first time I've had raw scallop and it was great, better than a cooked scallop any day. Never been a fan of the type of meat but the venison tataki was delicious - slightly seared, lovely plum dressing and the pickled pears and crunchy garlic chips created an amazing texture and flavour. The best dish hands down was the quail 3 ways. I've always enjoyed the chinese salt and pepper quail but this was out of this world. I would definitely come back and order this as a main next time. The chocolate garden dessert was a suprise too, normally degustations end on a low note with the dessert but this was perfect. My partner with the sweet tooth went nuts over this one. I could go on and on about each course and how amazing it was but you need to go and try it yourself. most definitely.
Best Japanese restuarant ever! Oysters were unbelievably fantastic, great lively atmosphere, can not wait to return....
Delicious!!!!!! Set menus are expensive but worth every dollar!! Top quality food, beautiful setting & you won't leave hungry.
If you want excellent quality than you need to be prepared to pay for it. Having said that, Sake is excellent quality at a reasonable price. Favorites were the Planko rice balls, the Spring Salad, the miso barramundi and the crispy chicken. Great location, decor and service. I will most certainly be back.
I have mixed feelings about my visit to sake... The food was sensational, though I think the sushi set may intimidate those not used to Japanese food. The problem was that the service was quite slow. My partner and I stood at the door for quite a while before anyone even acknowledged us. We ordered drinks, but they didn't come out until after our entrees. As I said, the food was great, the entrees in particular, but I don't think it was worth the price.
Traditional, it is not. Wow what a night, we had dinner in Sake Last night and it was fantastic. I have trouble understanding previous comments about price and not being true Japanese food. Right from the start the waiter explained they were contemporary Japanese. And it certainly is. The food had classic japanese ingredients like yama-gobo and sato imo and the freshest of fish and sea-urchin with a modern and elegant twist. The interior is chic, the service friendly and attentive, first class all the way. The a la carte menu is good and extensive but the Shinichi specials really are works of art. The purist's at heart there is something for you too. A simple request to the waiter for some of Chef's recommendations for some more traditional dishes by one of our party resulted in some beautiful dishes. Its rare to find a restaurant so willing to oblige with so many different requests and preferences. Well done Sake and we will be back
Good, but expensive.... Went to sake recently for an anniversary dinner. It's definitely a fine dining experience - the service was great and very attentive and it's a beautiful set up inside the restaurant. We enjoyed everything we ordered (sashimi, soft shell crab rolls, mixed tempura, s&p tofu) and in particular the glass of mixed Kozaemon sake that we finished with which was recommended by our waitress. The food wasn't as mindblowing as I was hoping it to be and while I would still recommend trying sake, I agree with some of the other reviewers here that you can definitely find a similar quality of food at other Japanese restaurants for a much more reasonable price.
Up Market Sushi Bar. Without a doubt this place delivers the atmosphere and classic Japanese stylings that you'd expect. It caters from the laid back casual drinking areas to the one-on-one intimate dining.
I do not confess to being an expert in Japanese food, however I have paid less the $230 odd bill for two people and felt satisfied with the servings.
By no means I am I saying Sake shouldn't be visited, but for the dinner like me who enjoys 'being full' after a sitting you might want to bring a lot of money or try something else.
The service was lovely, however I think that there were a few new people working that particular evening.
As a rating I'd say a less than proportionate 3 out of 5 stars.
GOod, but not enough!. The food was amazing and the quality of the sushi was beautiful, but there were five of us who ordered a ton of food and still left hungry, but with a HUGE bill! ...
Fabulous Japanese!. I went to Sake with a friend on a Friday evening without having planned to go to dinner, however after going to Sake we were very pleased we did! The restaurant is beautifully decorated and the staff are very friendly and attentive. We got a seat up at the bar which overlooks the kitchen (which by the way is spotlessly clean). My friend ordered one of the mains: chicken terriyaki, and I had two starters - sushi and the pork skewers. The chicken and pork just melted in the mouth and the sushi was probably the best sushi i've ever had. It was nice to go to a restaurant which moves the Japanese cuisine out of the 'take-away' market. Would definately reccomend Sake, however instead of ordering mains I would suggest getting a few dishes to share becuase the sushi (although delicious) was too much of one thing for just one person. The private dining rooms also look really nice, would be a nice place for a group dinner.
Good restaurant design and atmosphere. Food is 'modern' Japanese - ordered the set menu of signature dishes. Generally good flavor but would have actually preferred traditional Japanese food. Service below average.
Great food, service and feel. Would rate the Kingfish sashimi and popcorn shrimp as excellent
Fabulous (But pricey..) Stuff. Absolutely love the food here, the sushimi tacos were sublime - tuna and salmon sushimi in a crispy taco shell with an accompanying tequilla-like shot of sake. Very inventive and very tasty. Second time round went for the sashimi platter which came out on a bed of ice and was ridiculously fresh. Pretty impressive Sake menu as well means that it does make a big hole in your wallet but its worth it.
Firstly. Great service. Sitting at Saturday lunchtime and am very happy to have discovered SAKE. Loved the wagyu, classy excellent dish. The crispy chicken is to die for as oaths pork belly kebabs. Pablo rice balls were good as was the prawn dumplings. Wasn't overly impressed by the tonkatsu cups but they were still flavorsome. The butterfish lettuce cups are excellent but my favorite is the S express scallops. Soooo full. Now onto the sake. What an excellent experience for a full on wine drinker. More expensive than wine but most definately recommend you try it. We love this place.
Disappointing service. Had to constantly flag down waiter to top up our empty champagne glasses then when bottle was empty no offer of a wine list (we would have had another bottle!) Food was fantastic, so fresh and full of flavour and the restaurant looks amazing, but we left before desserts because it was just too hard to get service.
This place is wonderful. With the old head chef from Wakame on the scoast. I wasn't let down. Great space and staff.
Sunday lunch was absolutely brilliant! Tuna belly with tempura figs and jalapeño cream was 10 out of 10. Great service will definitely be back
Fabulous Dining Experience. We celerbrated my partners birthday there and have a great night. Wonderful food and great decor. The kitchen was a little slow but the waitress did keep us informed and shared plates did keep arriving.
The Miso Butterfish is to die for!
We ate the chef selection set menu with matching sake. Delicious food and the best sake I have ever had! Love this restaurant. New favorite!!!!
Excellent value. Great ambience, not too touristy, plenty of space, and extensive sake list. Tried the panko rice balls with mild wasabi dipping sauce, chicken skewers, and wagyu beef carpaccio for starters, and liked the rice balls the best. Aburi (selection of seared nigiri sushi) was a nice main, not too overwhelming, and good choice from the chef (I think I got the salmon roe, seared scampi, salmon belly, and two other things. Little one had the assorted tempura, and it was pretty standard. Didn't care too much for the eel sushi, but the Nixon maki roll was an absolute knockout!
Sake Deck for afternoon nibbles & a drink. Took some friends up from Sydney for a late Friday afternoon meal & drinks. We sat out on the deck which overlooks Eagle Street - great for people watching. As we arrived we were the only ones out on the deck and service was fantastic, as the deck filled up with Friday afternoon diners & drinkers the service stayed spot-on. We shared a selection of 7 dishes which which were all excellent. A big hit with the Sydney-sides. Look forward to returning to enjoy the venue inside, which looks fantastic.
Excellent service, decor and a food/drink combination that ticks all the boxes. Fantastic sake menu with sake flights to taste the different offerings and a sake sommelier that knows her stuff. Food was impressive with great sushi/sashimi and the chicken was the most tender I have eaten. Great new restaurant!
Best Restaurant in Brisbane! Food, service & the whole sake (the drink) experience was well beyond expectations.
The more substantial serves were an incredible pan seared salmon with cauliflower purée and beef sirloin with onions and mushrooms and a soy & ginger sauce. Holy moly it was out of this world.
Overall, we had an amazing time at Saké. We sat at the chef’s counter, which was actually really fun as this gave us a perfect view of the kitchen and the beautiful dishes that each chef was tasked to craft. The staff treated us very well and were all friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food that we ordered was definitely gorgeous. We would be more than happy to return! One thing to note though: the dark and intimate atmosphere that the restaurant provides makes this place better suited for couples than larger groups of people.
Sake’s lighting and décor displays a certain elegance yet funky quality that lures you back for more. The extremely talented chefs do an absolutely awe inspiring job and I am so grateful to be able to eat such magnificent food, so to you especially – I thank you.
I have been treated to Sake dinner...twice. Yes, I am extremely blessed to have very loving and generous friends who knows my affinity for Japanese food as well as my liking for dressing up nicely for dinner. I would consider Sake as a modern take on Japanese cuisine as everything is exquisitely presented in little bite size pieces and some dishes are not what you would typically get if you were in Japan. Sake offers intimate seating with couple tables that overlook the Brisbane River and also booths/segregated table dining at the back for larger groups. There are also stools and bar seating along the kitchen for a more casual (yet still fine dining) experience that allows you to have a glimpse of the chefs cooking up a storm. We ordered many dishes that night: sashimi appetiser (8 pieces of sashimi with wasabi and soy), beef sirloin (medium rare grass-fed sirloin on sauteed onions and japanese mushrooms, topped with soy and ginger sauce), ikaru scallop (QLD scallop topped with salmon
Awesome service – our waiter did not only provide great service, but he was also very knowledgeable about all the dishes! Lovely atmosphere. Obviously fresh food.Great range of gourmet Japanese foods.

Sake also have gorgeous private dining options hidden away that I would love to visit sometime. Definitely a fab place, great atmosphere, great food, great beverages!
With a coveted Good Food Times chefs hat, you're always guaranteed to have a sensational Japanese meal at Sake, which has a lot to do with the way Executive Chef Shaun Presland has set the place up. Teamed with Head Chef Daisuke Saka, Sake Brisbane distinguishes itself from its sister restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne with its use of regional produce that, in my opinion, is the best in Australia.
You could tell by looking at this dish that it was going to be spectacular. The wagyu was sliced incredibly thinly, so much so I can't really understand how it could be sliced so thin and retain its shape. I only got to eat a few bites of this but the portions that I sampled were incredible. The ginger and soy complimented each other so well and there was a little bit of heat coming from the combination. It was sweet and sticky as well, but you never lost the flavour of the wagyu itself. Just devine and the best thing we had all day

Expect everything from a fine dining restaurant and then some with 5 star service; be greeted with a smile and a welcoming, traditional, ‘irishaimase’ from the all the chefs in the kitchen as you are seated at your table, making you feel more at home in this schmick riverside restaurant. The service continues to be just as warm as the welcome with your waiter/waitress patiently explaining Sake’s dining style and allowing time to make your choices. Not sure what to order because it all sounds so good? Get your waiter/waitress to bring you their favourites which are guaranteed to be the best.
Sake was created and runs on the following values – precision, organisation and respect. The food and fit out are reflective of this, brilliantly executed, made with car and absolutely stunning. Pigs have the option to dine at the bar, in the main restaurant or a traditional sunken banquet table, private dining room or intimate booth, all are the perfect place to celebrate something special. I opt for all my favourites when I go here – sashimi tasting plate, featuring my favourite raw calamari, edemame, beef tataki with garlic chips and snow peas and miso, a little piece of japan in our fare city. Price: Enough food for a pig will cost about $50.
You can imagine how excited I was when I read that Saké Restaurant in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne will celebrate cherry blossoms with a month-long festival in September (from Sunday 1 September to Monday 30 September) and I can have a teaser of spring-time-Japan.
All in all, it was a very stimulating experience. Aside from the delicious flavors, spotless and refined decor, faultless and relaxed service, perfectly executed dishes with artistic presentation. Sake truly is in the league of 3 star restaurants and should not be compared with any other Japanese restaurants. The attention to detail is 3 steps ahead of any others.
I’ve always enjoyed the ambience at Saké. You are always greeted with a polite and warm irasshaimase before you are seated. The atmosphere is always a genuine balance of classy and casual, which makes the restaurant a great location for catch-ups or even first dates.
Our dinner at Sake Restaurant turned out to be a lovely dining experience. Whether it be the food, atmosphere or the great customer service, I think it was because of all aspects combined that made it such an enjoyable evening. I am looking forward to visiting Sake in Sydney also, but we will definitely be back to dine at Sake Brisbane again!
Sake Restaurant & Bar takes over from in the area formerly held by Pier Nine and I have to say it is a refreshing addition to the riverside restaurant line up with its visually pleasing with warm wood panels. Unlike many of the Eagle Street Restaurants, Sake's restaurant area is spacious and holds many pleasant surprises. My favourites being this lovely feature wall and the unusual layout of the bathrooms. The bathrooms are unisex with a choice of self contained cubicle. I was joined in my adventure by two lovely lads and Eden suggested the best course of action was to open with a Sashimi Combo and a 2009 Mader Pinot Blanc and I wasn't disappointed. I've always been fairly restrained with alcoholic beverages but this drop was especially pleasant. I wouldn't have been surprised if I could have finished half a bottle as it had such a lovely feel in the mouth. But alas I was driving and I prefer to keep to my fellow Queenslanders safe. After all I am only one strike away from the trifecta
Though Sake offers more contemporary Jap, we were all really glad we tried! We created our own Sashimi platter . We had the Kingfish, Snapper and Salmon Belly. The standout was the belly and my parents wanted another portion but it was SOLD OUT!!
For entrees, we shared Sashimi tacos, tonkatsu cups and pork belly skewers with a spicy sauce. The service we experienced was great, each time the waiter brought out a dish all elements were clearly explained to us.
One of our favourites was the Popcorn Shrimp. The balance of flavour was amazing: sweet, sour and spicy. I just couldn’t stop eating it!

Well it's modern Japanese cuisine with a casual feel. There's a focus on share plates that are brought out sporadically during your meal in the order the kitchen chooses. There is an intimidating sake menu, but don't worry there is plenty of wine available too. There's also a bit of a Mexican twist on some of the dishes too
We LOVED Sake. Mochi wanted feedback on it when I got home because she's been to the one in Sydney. I said it was fabulous but couldn't put my finger on why. Was it the food? The food was great but I wouldn't say it blew my socks off. The Pink Blossom cocktail did but that's just one drink. No, I have to say that Sake was great for me because of the overall experience.
One of the conference speakers recommended I check out Saké Restaurant & Bar , so I dragged the SO there as part of his celebratory meal I owed him months ago for his work promotion. Saké has gorgeous décor - dark woods matched with glass, their restaurant window overlooking the Story Bridge. We were seated at a table for 2, our seats positioned at the table corner, which I particularly enjoyed. It allowed us to converse with each other comfortably, yet watch the coming and goings of the restaurant. Expe

...guests can try three sakes with tasting notes and bite-sized food matches. You can taste the sake in a private dining room as a 30 minute booked master class as a prelude to a dinner or more informally at the bar if you are a group of two.
