Really lovely, fresh food but for the portion sizes I really do think it’s overpriced. Went there for my birthday and the staff were lovely.
Meal: Chef’s omakase
Overall: 4/5; will be returning in the future.
Pros: beautiful plating, and good pacing of the omakase. Highlights were the scallops, tacos and tempura. The spicy tuna was actually spicy, and the wagyu had great condiments.
Cons: food descriptions were rushed and unclear. Tacos arrived before scallops were cleared from the table. The salmon was not made to be easily eaten with chopsticks and felt jarring in the omakase sequence. The dessert fell flat, with no signs of creative flair.
Had a celebratory dinner with my partner and loved the place! Food was absolutely amazing, sashimi tasted fresh. Beef tataki was smooth. Personal favourite was the grilled duck with the mustard sause and pickled sides. Most amazing combination of taste I ever had. Pork belly was tender and the dessert was spectacular with a unique combination of flavours. Would definitely go back again (:
Food is so fresh and delicious! Absolutely love this restaurant.
We have the opportunity to dine at this highly rated restaurant on Melbourne Cup Day with TheFork’s 50% voucher. Warmly greeted on arrival we are helped through the Food and a Drink Menus by Ans. Phuong Tran enjoys her Pink Blossom Cocktail and lunch is served within 20 minutes.
* Large Sashimi is beautifully presented. Every item on this platter is fresh and delicious
* S Express Sushi Roll has fresh Scallops and Cucumber wrapped by seared Salmon and a drizzle of Unagi sauce. Freshly prepared with fresh ingredients, the S Express is a great sushi roll.
* Sashimi Tacos is served with cubed Salmon, Tuna and Kingfish topped with a tasty Tomato Salsa. These refreshing Tacos are enjoyable.
Ans suggests we should try Sake’s two popular desserts.
* Dragon Egg is their Signature Dessert that looks spectacular when it was presented with billowing steam from the dry ice. The white chocolate Egg sits on Passionfruit Cream in a bed of crunchy Almond and is served with a hot Caramel sauce. We love this dessert!
* Perfect Pavlova is a spiral meringue filled with miso curd, fresh fruit, peanut brittle and whisky ice cream. A different take on the traditional Pavlova which is refreshing.
Overall, a very enjoyable lunch and the service was friendly and helpful. Well done!
Made a weekend dinner reservation with the partner to make use of TheFork's 50% discount deal for the set menu, "chef's new classics."
The new set menu included:
- Sashimi moriawase: fresh tuna, kingfish and salmon.
- Unagi bao: crispy unagi between soft, fluffy bao. Delicious!
- Steamed dumpling duo: nice juicy mixture of kimchi and pork, although the dumpling exterior was a little doughy and chewy.
- Karaage: crunchy karaage chicken, not oily.
- Dynamite makimono: delicious roll of fresh tuna sushi with a nice textural crunch.
- Grilled barramundi: fresh, however mine was unfortunately under-cooked.
- Miso soup and steamed rice to share.
- Miso creme brulee: delicious and well-done with crispy top and smooth custard. Nice mixture of sweet and salty.
Friendly and efficient service. Prices on the higher end, comparable to fine dining. Without the discount, it would have been about $98 per head. Large, classy restaurant area with a smart-casual ambience.
Overall, a lovely menu. Unfortunately, a couple of hiccups during our sitting.
We had the degustation. It was out of this world! I would definitely recommend you try this out least once. Great service and food came out at a good pace which made for an enjoyable experience.
Explored this awarded winning restaurant with the Fork's promo at the end of March. It was a pre-set banquet night. It includes nori crisps, hiramasa kingfish, grass-fed beef tataki, pan seared kimchi gyoza, tempera snapper, house salad, spicy dynamite tuna and nihon nemsis. The whole banquet was delicately prepared by heart. Combination of dishes reflects chefs' passion to showcase as many signatures as possible. We have no doubt to say "yummy" on each dishes; however, if the dessert can be presented more Japanese style than it would be perfect.
Rating 4.5/5
Sensational position in the Eagle St pier precinct and the food and service to match, unfortunately you pay for the privilege and don’t expect a cheap night out, is it value for money ???? Jury is out in that one but I would say I would go back - enjoy
Fantastic and alert staff
Great selection of food
Very very pricey but I guess you pay for quality!
Was very difficult getting a table without a booking
But all in all a great experience and I’ll be back when back in Brisbane
Well done
