Review The Vietnamese - Brisbane

Anthony M
The food was delicious. Chicken lemon grass and chilli sauce Crispy egg noodles with beef Just a little note, the restaurant could use a bit more lighting inside, seemed a wee dim Otherwise 10/10šŸ‘šŸ¼

I'm really not sure what to make of this place and you definitely don't come here for the decor. Musty carpeted floor is reminiscent of what one might imagine to be going on in the neighbouring seedy venues. We had the Goi Cuon, Wonton Mi xa xiu and Pho Bo Vien. I was really happy with the banh Trang( rice paper) that is essentially the Cuon. It wasn't soft and soggy like how most places around serve it, in fact it was quite firm and chewy, really exactly how it's meant to be. The prawns were plum and flavoursome and the bean sauce was delicious, just needed more crushed peanuts. The wonton Mi xa xiu was ok too. The noodles were nice and still a little chewy and the xa xiu was delicious. All in all the food was ok and the price was very reasonable for the food we ordered.

Not authentic Vietnamese for the most part of the menu. More like Australian Chinese. Salt and pepper quail was really nice but the sizzling beef was terrible. So much corn starch and lacking flavour. My friend had rice paper rolls which were fine but the chicken Pho was not authentic flavours. Also ordered a coconut water which was so sweet with sugar. When asking if they added sugar I was told it is out of a packet. For $5 for a small glass you would expect actual coconut water.

Delicious food always a favourite Squid in Tamarind is definitely worth ordering

*Not The Vietnamese Restaurant as it was before-pandemic* The owner of this restaurant has not changed as verified by the Australian Business Registry query. More importantly, the service staff are as warm yet efficient as before. However, the quality and value of the food/menu has drastically changed beyond what would be expected from post-pandemic necessities. I have it on excellent authority and from tasting the dishes, that there is a new chef at the restaurant, one that seemingly cuts corners to deliver a product without regard to the 'soul' this previously excellent place one had. As a customer of The Vietnamese Restaurant for over 5 years, it is with a heavy heart that I no longer recommend this place as an Asian restaurant worthy of consideration. I certainly hope that the 30+ years owner of The Vietnamese Restaurant does what is necessary to prevent this Brisbane icon from going out with a whimper.

Best Vietnamese noodle soup ever!!!

Our go to Vietnamese. Best beef noodle soup in town, great broken rice combination and crispy chicken and rice. Service has improved. Cheap, cheerful, wholesome food.

Great food and affordable price. Been there many times and mostly I recommending to try the Pho or fish soup that is amazing. The fried noodles I had the other day wasn't that great but still very fresh and OK

If you intend on using the Entertainment Book, make sure you don't book a table online because they won't honour the discount otherwise. It was unreasonable. The waitress lacked customer service skills and rudely asked, "what do you want?" when she took our order. This restaurant needs to correct her attitude or else they'll keep losing customers. Food was fine in terms of taste but toppings of their noodle dishes were scarce.

We went to the restaurant for a family lunch on Sunday. We each ordered a dish and fried rice plus we had two entrees. Positives were the quickness that the dishes were served, large sizes of the meals, attentive service and the reasonable cost. Negatives were that the food tasted very similar to Chinese dishes, bland sauces except for the chilli chicken, fish dish we ordered not available but substituted for a fish stirfry. Two diners took in a milk drink and were informed that they couldn't drink it in the restaurant. That was a bit rude since we ordered over $160 worth of food! Reasonable cheap casual place to eat but nothing to sing about.

One word disgusting... I thought it was a Vietnamese restaurant however the menu only had a couple Vietnamese dishes and the rest were Chinese. Food was bland and oily. Really not worth the money. We ate a few bites and decided to get cheap hot dogs instead.

Came here for lunch with a friend the other day! Its an old school vietnamese venue, that has been around for years !!!Ā <br/><br/>It has been many moons since i have been here, so it was time to revisit it as i have been craving Noodles for weeks. Ramen and Pho has been my weakness recently.Lunch special of $10 for a Large bowl of Bun Bo Hue (Spicy vermicelli noodles, with beef and pork) Wow! This is the kind of value and authenticity that i would usually get in Inala. In fact it may be even better.Ā Don't be fooled by the basic decor...I thoroughly enjoyed this dish, and it is on par with some of the best Vietnamese food you can find in Brisbane, and the price point is just fantastic! This has the potential to be a weekly spot for me to visit, as i left feeling satisfied and full but still quite fresh.Ā <br/><br/>Highly recommend!

Decent Place.... One Time visit though!!<br/>Limited options but the best thing is its BYO!<br/>Small place and its recommended to book a table first!<br/>

The staff are super lovely and attentive! Food came out pretty quick but at different times, a lotta meat in the dim sims which sounds good in theory but was a bit much in reality. Pho was fantastic, could have been a tiny bit hotter but was very delicious.
Kenneth
Unexpectedly delicious Vietnamese dinner of fresh prawn and pork spring rolls, vermicelli salad with sugar cane prawns, fried rice and crispy chicken ā€” all with tasty sauces and BYO. Simple setting but became crowded so get there early! šŸ„˜

This place is consistently delicious - andĀ one of our favourite Viet places in Brisbane! Take a bottle of BYO Sav Blanc along and start with some make your own fun rolls (because they are FUN) and share a few mains - we love the Crispy Skin Chicken with plum sauce and the Chicken with Chilli &Ā Lemongrass. Service is always fast and you will leave feeling so satisfied, with a meagre bill to boot.
Always Hungry
I had rice paper rolls and a veggie rice vermicelli salad. The salad was really yummy and I'd definitely come back for it.<br/>Rice paper rolls were OK - not the best I've had but still yummy. <br/>The service was really quick and friendly.
Isabelle
This place is super great value. They have really big servings, cheap prices, and the food is super delicious!!!!!!!! My favourite Vietnamese, I love the vermicelli salad, wonton soup and the pho!
LaMondo
We went here because the pho was cheap. However, it appears that the taste had to be sacrificed to lower the cost. It didn't taste badĀ per say, but it was pretty flavourless. Most of my friends who went with me agreed, and unlike me, they love pho and eat it quite often.<br/><br/>The serving size is generous though (I order the small size and barely finished it).
Linna (Gluten Free)
this is my favourite vietnamese haunt in brisbane! the pho is phenomenally cheap (cheapest in brisbane iirc) and delicious. full of flavour and fills me up and keeps me warm. i fell in love with the pho and even brought my friends to the place and we pretty much come here often because not only is the food cheap but it's also tasty. i love to add a little bit of chilli just because i like things a bit spicy. <br/><br/>combination noodle soup has seafood, beef, chicken, and pork -- really worth the money and super filling. <br/><br/>crispy chicken with rice & crispy chicken vermicelli salad -- chicken is really wonderfully cooked, not too oily. could have more vegetables for the rice dish but not complaining since it's what's usual in viet restaurants.<br/><br/>service is fast and friendly. definitely a must go place if you're in the mood for viet food

The Vietnamese Restaurant was the natural stopping point when walking down Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley. With excited anticipation, we ordered fun rolls (chicken and beef), crispy duck and vermicilli noodles (chicken). Let it be said, there was absolutely nothing fun about the fun rolls. While I appreciate the novelty in giving diners the chance to craft their own rice paper rolls, we were given no introduction to the craft and finished with sticky fingers and a plate full of fallen noodles. The crispy duck contained little to no duck, simply a mess of deep fried poultry skin and a sticky sauce that left us feeling uncomfortable, to say the least. To their credit, the wait staff were very accommodating of dietary requirements and the service was friendly. That said, we won't be recommending The Vietnamese Restaurant to other diners, particularly after copping a bill of $80 for two.

Came here on a Saturday night, we didn't book our table but we were happy to wait. We then waited 25 minutes and then when a table became free we excitedly hurried over, we sit down and next I know the waiter goes and throws down plates and says rudely "the table is not moving." We were taken a back by the rudeness but were also bloody hungry so decided to stay. Will probably come here again, but don't be so rude!!!

This basic restaurant is another Fortitude Valley institution. The food is very good and the service was excellent with the food arriving very quickly even though it was busy. <br/><br/>Our waiter went out of his way to make suggestions and brought us fresh chopped chilli without being asked. Unfortunately we had dinner there on a Friday night and the noise levels were incredible. We arrived without a booking and were seated upstairs next to a a table of people who were having a work function. This is probably a place to avoid on Friday and Saturday nights because it is so busy.

The dishes taste slightly different from Chinese cuisine, with few innovation on tastes. recommend their spring rolls and meat balls, also the mushrooms with beef.
Around The City
I have been here way too often but I seriously can't get enough. There are so many options here and everything tastes consistently good. I'm usually here once I get off work, and for a big bowl of pho for $10 only.. how can you resist? Prices are decent and portions are generous. They also have this option where you can roll your own salad rolls which is an awesome idea.

I dragged my Flatty, David to The Vietnamese in Fortitude Valley to fulfill my pho craving for lunch today. Pho is like the ultimate comfort food. It warms you up, makes you feel happy and content. We sat down and I ordered without even opening the menu ā€“ the food came out pretty quickly, hot and delicious.

Food was amazing .. so fresh & the flavor was the best !! Friendly staff,, it was packed to the rafters.. indicative of the food.. a must visit when next in the Valley šŸ’‹

Was a little bit disappointed by this. We had combination spring roll for entree and it was below average (2/10). The stuffing of the spring roll was really upsetting the ratio of meat to vermicelli was out of proportion. We then had the beef noodle soup. Couldn't really fault that for the price but it was pretty mediocre (6/10). Bit sweet to my taste but my mate liked it fine. And for dessert we had banana fritter with ice cream. I was actually enraged when I had the first mouthful. The banana was raw - no taste of banana nor any sweetness to it. It's more like eating soil. Maybe they just don't know how to make banana fritter, if so, take it off your menu. <br/><br/>Overall rating: 4/10

This place is brilliant. Service is great, BYO, and were very nice with us changing tables to suit our booking. Food is delicious, went with a group and all shared our dishes and every single one was great. Sizzling Mongolian beef was incredible, as well as a pork noodle dish. Huge servings too, could easily go 1 between 2 if you're light eaters. Highly recommend!

We came here one night and it was great. The staff were very accommodating for such a big group. Pretty easy to get a park in the parking lot across the way. Service was fantastic, food was great and prices were very reasonable!
Chantelle Hiley
Such great prices! Only $10 for a vermicelli noodle salad or a pho. I would recommend booking a table in advance for weekend nights. The corkage is $3.
Spencer Tran
The food was just ok. But horrible and ignorant services. The girl with short hair always having a suck faces like a bitch. (She should not be working as a waitress she should be our boss.)<br/>Be more helpful and caring to your customer. <br/>The 3 colour was terribly off and I had waited more than 45 mins for my salt and pepper quail but still no sign of coming (I gave up). <br/>Will not come back <br/>

Had a wonderful bowl of BBQ Pork Wonton noodle soup. The soup was really flavourful, but the there is a tad of msg in it. It's a quick fix when Inala and Darra are just not convenient to travel too and you've got a craving for Vietnamese food.
Kevin Kwok
They ran out of pho so I ordered the 'ginger and shallot' stir fried fish. It wasn't a clear, light sauce with a strong ginger and shallot flavour but some sort of odd garlicy chilli fish overloaded with red capsicums. No ginger flavour, no mixed vegetables just lots of chilli powder, onion and capsicum. The texture of the fish was disgusting, it had a springy, firm yet softened texture which happens when you take poor quality seafood and steep it in bicarbonate soda to soften it. Absolutely disgusting and unfresh. I'm asian, I've been eating ginger and shallot dishes for a long time and this is not even close to what it should be.

Cheap good pho! Very popular place during dinner time and it's $10 for most pho noodle soups. Definitely a great place to eat at if I'm ever back in Brisbane again.
Hungrygirl
Consistently good Vietnamese food. I donā€™t feel itā€™s the best in Brisbane, but itā€™s a close runner up. There is always a crowd in here so expect it to be busy and noisy, but get together with your friends and bring some beers along and have a fun night. The service, although not super friendly, is always quick and efficient and the meals are really big portions for such cheap prices. The crispy skin chicken was unfortunately a little dry, but the flavours overall were quite tasty. They have a vegetarian noodle soup which is also quite flavoursome; I usually find vegetarian soups can be quite bland but this is probably one of the better ones I have had. I would recommend that and the spicy beef noodle soup.
Liam
2nd best Pho I've had in Brisbane.Ā  Price isn't the best but isn't the worst either.Ā  Customer service is pretty abysmal, but I wouldn't let that ruin it.Ā  Nice selection of Viet beers also.Ā  Worth a try!

Ablen, If it's any consolation, you ar not alone. I don't know whether this place is under new ownership but their attitude stinks as bad as their carpet. I reviewed it about 5 years ago, a glowing review and I had been a customer for about 10 years, milestone birthdays, family, the lot! Last public holiday Monday my wife and I visited at lunchtime arriving at 1.10pm. We asked for a table for two and were directed by a woman to a table for 4 which had been seperated by 18" or so into two tables for two, one of which was occupied. This was the last table for 4 on the right before the bar. We did'nt want to sit there, 18" from 2 strangers! We may as well have just shared a table for 4 with them! We asked if we could take a table on the left of the room, all of which were empty except for one. We were told we could not and I enquired why. I was told that they had to be left free in case lunch became busy! (HOLIDAY Monday lunchtime ? 1.10pm? Lunch is all but over!!) I again asked "Are you saying you can't accomodate us?" The lady replied "Yes". Pure and simple! At that we left. We went across to the King of Kings and had lunch. The place was busy busy! On reflection The Vietnamese was half empty. Their attitude is driving their customers away, Alben, Me, my family, my mates......I won't be back thats how it works. And the King of Kings made an extra $90 that day, courtesy (or lack of it) of the Vietnamese.(I had to rate this as a 1 because Zomato won''t let you submit without a rating)

I decided to go to my favourite Vietnamese place with a few friends for my birthday. I called up made a booking and they notified me that we had another group coming after us which was all fine. From the moment I got there the waiter was hurrying us along and told us not to " make a mess" and didn't even provide us with any plates. He then proceeded to give us more attitude when we asked for plates acting like he was doing us a favour. The whole experience has left me disappointed and upset. Shame they have just lost a loyal customer

Standout place in the Valley for cheap, tasty, authentic Vietnamese. The special crispy boneless chicken in soy sauce is amazing, as is the pho. Can get very busy and noisy on a Friday/Saturday night but still a great place to go for dinner before/with drinks. Definitely stands out among the cheap BYO places in the Valley as somewhere with consistently good quality food, ambience and service.

Working in the CBD, I occasionally head off to fortitude valley to have lunch. Last week, my friend was suggesting that we grab Vietnamese food, so we did some research and one name that stuck out at us was The Vietnamese, which is situated on Wickham Street. Whilst I haven't been before, this store has been around from as early as I can remember, and has withstood the test of time.

Went back to an old haunt. Really old one actually. I probably haven't been back in about 10 + years (not sure why).<br/>The decor & menu haven't changed in those years. I don't really think they should have either.<br/>Sometimes it's actually really nice not to sit amongst polished glass & hanging charcuterie (despite loving it).<br/>Went with a mate from work, & a 'random'. $10 large noodle soups. Great value with great taste. $30 for 3 for a satisfying meal.<br/>I had a combination 'special' didn't come with fried egg as per description but still had a great broth with depth .<br/>I'll have to make a more conscious effort to go more often

I don't usually write reviews but this restaurant definatley deserves a shout out. The Vietnamese is a very very authentic and affordable place!! I highly recommend trying it!

Basic looking place but really Authentic and affordable Viet food. Best $10 I spent on a large plate of THE BEST crispy skin chicken (for some reason this is what I always order at Vietnamese restaurants). Always a big line up especially around dinner time. Also it's BYO. Definitely worth going for and I'll keep raving on about the $10 rice with crispy chicken. Would recommend.
Adam
Absolutely amazing food and ambience, people will line up to come here rather than settle for any of the other restaurants around China town. One of the more genuine Pho's served in the area, guaranteed you'll love it
Cassiecakes
This place has been here since before I was born and is still doing a busy trade...that's got to be legendary in the restaurant scene. ļ»æLong before there was banh mi and rice paper rolls in every food court, there was The Vietnamese, a Valley icon serving up VietnameseĀ 7 days a week. With criminally cheap prices and one of the ever dwindling number of BYO restaurants, The Vietnamese has established itself as the perfect place to lineĀ your belly before a night out. We called in late on a Thursday night and even after 9 on a school night, the restaurant was still busy.
Tennille Fink
Soggy food, clumpy fried rice, the flavours tasted fake. Waitress looked like she wanted to stab me in the eye with my chopstick. Never going back. Jackpot Noodle kicks this places ass for Aussie Asian. Blerg. I feel ill.
Art
A simple Vietnamese joint. No frills, budget and authentic. From broken rice to pho all dishes are good. Pricing is amazingly affordable and they're byo.
Ronnielui2003
This Vietnamese restaurant has been trading in Fortitude Valley over 30 years. Although it is still packed of diners, I feel that it's glory of being the leading Vietnamese restaurant has been diminished. Firstly, they still serve the old style of "say" Vietnamese food and add some Chinese dishes to cope with local taste buds; secondly, the decor still remains in an old-school fashion. Please refer to Vietnamese House further down the road and the Red Lotus just across the road!
Franziska Schƶnenberger
Love this place! Always fast, friendly service and great food for very reasonable prices! I come back here time and time again and am never disappointed!
Oblique
I've been going to this restaurant for over 15 or so years on and off. It really did shine as an example of authentic tasty Vietnamese cuisine. Unfortunately our recent experience was extremely disappointing. Admittedly it has been a while, but when the food finally came out it was bland, stodgy and swimming in some unknown flavour sauce. I ordered crispy chicken with garlic and chilli. If I used my imagination, perhaps I did detect the faint garlic taste, as for chilli, afraid not. It was badly battered and submerged in a sea of sloppy opaque stuff with some chopped shallots to trick the diner into thinking it would taste fresh. Unfortunately there must've been some of the sauce left over in the vats out the back because my mixed vegetables were also drowning in the same tacky slops and lacked crispness, freshness and texture. My partner had a seafood dish, which was remotely better, just, but still disappointing. <br/><br/>My tip - find another Vietnamese that is more authentic and pays attention to the freshness and flavoursome tastes that makes their cuisine famous. This restaurant had it once, but somewhere over the last few years, it's been lost in the self satisfied but misplaced belief that a full restaurant means it must be good and everyone thinks so. Wrong. The flavourless swill we were served up will surely not go unnoticed by increasingly discerning diners.
Mandy Nicole
Best Vietnamese in Brisbane. Well priced, fresh, great service & amazing food! We used to live around the corner and we would eat there at least once a week. Food is always exceptional & it's BYO too boot!
Rebecca Wilson
Good!. After seeing some empty chinatown restaurants on a busy Friday evening that we swiftly avoided, The Vietnamese was almost full and proved to be a great choice. It's BYO and the meals are very reasonably priced (heaps of mains for $10). They have a good offering for vegetarians if you're that way inclined. They don't hold back on spice in some of the noodle dishes, so don't forget to say something if that's not your thing. Service was pleasant.
Mel Tan
I love your food. But get some takeaway cups so everything is available to eat at home. If you're concerned about portion control, weigh your ingredients?

Yummy pho and tasty ice coffee. Highly recommend!

Hitting up some Valley joints for pho: The Vietnamese. We went here for the first timeā€Ž on a Tuesday night and had to wait 15 minutes for a table, which we were happy to do.<br/>Our intention was to try the pho to find a decent place that was closer to home, instead of having to rely on driving all the way from the north side to Inala to get a bowl.<br/>The Vietnamese was suggested to us as probably the best option for pho in the Valley. Also it had an 85% urbanspoon rating so it must be okay, right? We'd been told that it wasn't as good as West End's pho (shout outs to Trang), but we were in the Valley anyway for the Nas Illmatic concert so we thought it was worth a try.ā€Ž<br/>ā€Ž<br/>Anyway, I ordered, in Vietnamese, the pho tai, nam, gau (rice noodle, beef soup, rare beef, cooked flank and brisket).ā€Ž I ordered in Vietnamese because I wanted a combination of rare and cooked beef and I couldn't find it on the menu, but the server acknowledged that he seemed to fully understand my order and wrote it down.ā€Ž<br/>Oh we also got the salt and pepper quail.ā€Ž<br/>ā€Ž<br/>The food looked pretty decent when it came out. The broth had a nice clarity and it smelled okay. Bean sprouts, basil, and lemon/lime were supplied, which was a good sign.<br/>I tried three spoons of the brothā€Ž. It was a bit bland and had an overwhelming onion flavour. The small hint of the beef flavour and aromatics was subdued and masked by the onion flavour.<br/><br/>I threw in some basil and mixed it up and noticed that the only meat in the bowl was the rare beef, which is pretty boring for a bowl of pho.<br/>But why no cooked beef? Did old mate mess up my order? How are people able to order cooked beef with their pho? The only option on the menu that might be what I wanted is "Combination beef noodle soup" but it's the same price as the one with just the rare beef so I'm thinking that it might be a combination of chicken and beef, which I once got tricked into ordering at another place.ā€Ž<br/>Also, their version of a dac biet (special) dish is "Special combination noodle soup"ā€Ž which is "meat and seafood with sugarcane prawns and fried egg". Pho dac biet usually has everything including the tripe, tendon, meat balls and different cuts of cooked beef. This place has no mention of any of these ingredients except for the meat balls, which is bought prepared in a vacuum-sealed bag that is refrigerated i.e. it takes no effort to include this in any dish.<br/>You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure out that these guys had a pretty weak broth game going and probably didn't include much meat when preparing their weaksauce broth. Maybe their broth looked nice and clear because they didn't have to skim off any of the scum from the non-existent meat in the broth preparation. I'm don't know; just saying... that's what it looked it.ā€Ž<br/>Every bit of pho I had I was thinking, "Hmmm, this is pretty bland... where's the brisket?... this is worse than West End... probably worse than Sunnybank... it just tastes like onion... I hope I don't splash any of the soup on my white Leyland Brothers shirt."<br/><br/>When paying for dinner, I used my Sherlock skills of "looking at things" and noticed that old mate had put down "pho tai" as the order, which was just the rice noodle beef soup with rare beef. It's a bit weird how he just ignored half the sounds coming out of my mouth when I ordered, unless one considers that they don't serve the cooked beef at all.<br/>Is it too hard to include some brisket for an hour and half in the broth preparation? Apparently it is too hard for the lovely clowns at The Vietnamese.<br/>ā€Ž<br/>Oh, the salt and pepper quail was bland considering I was expecting some salt and pepper.ā€Ž The Nas concert was awesome though. I'd give The Vietnamese a rating of 3 out of 10. Should've just had chips and gravy from the kebab/pizza joint in the mall. Or a Whopper cheese.

Great gluten free rice noodle salad. Love their $10 rice noodle gfree salad for lunch very generous amount and always same high standard, just wish they had more gf on their menu!
Janelovescoffee
Really rude service and average food. Would avoid this place. There are so many great vietnamese and chinese restaurants in brisbane and this is certainly not one of them! The staff are so so rude and the service is shocking. The food is very poor, the chicken we ordered taste slightly off/lemony and the seafood dishes taste like they have been in the freezer for months. Avoid at all costs!!!!
David Warwick Williams
One of the most disappointing Asian meals I have ever had ā€“ reminded me of the worst of generic Aussie Chinese from the 1970s. Couldn't locate much genuine Vietnamese dishes on the menu, and the food that we got was just bland. Can't for the life of us understand how this restaurant got this rating on Urbanspoon
Diner From Brisbane
Never again!. My family and i used to come here quiet regularly 5-6 years ago and it was delightful. I went here very recently with my husband for lunch and it was disgusting, we left there feeling unwell! Sure, portion sizes are great with cheap prices, but it was old-tasting food and there were parts of my food that were still cold and i was having a soup! YUCK! plates were dirty, glasses were dirty, goodness knows how clean the cutlery was, but this place is in need of a complete makeover. it was nasty! do yourself a favor, dont go here.

Worst Customer Service. This is one of the worst restaurant with one of the worst customer service ever. One of my friend wanted to eat there and she was alone and they just told her to leave in such a rude way just because she was alone.

Second chance and still rubbish. Decided to give this place another go as we though first time we went we ordered wrong. It won't be getting another chance! Service was bad. The waitress we had has the retention of a goldfish! She took our order which had 2 mains and tried to serve us 3. As for the food, the best part of the meal was the Wine which we bought from the bottlo on the corner! So bland we couldn't eat it. When we paid and was asked by miss goldfish if we enjoyed our meal, we said no but she didn't seem to care. Definitely won't be going back ever again!

Loved the soups. The name "delicious soups" ring true. Can't wait to Ty more of the menu.
Renee Nicholson
Very average. Yeah I hate to say it but it wasn't that great to be honest, bland food, or very fake flavours, to noisy, agree waiter not that friendly, to be honest I don't know what all the fuss is about there are a LOT of other places that serve much better quality food than this, don't bother.
Discerning Diner
The food wasn't fresh, the service wasn't great.. We ate the The Vietnamese on a Friday night after it was recommended to us by a friend. We arrived at the restaurant, where we were greeted by an male attendant who would only smile and offer warm service to you if you were a "good looking" female. If you didn't fit that category, it was as if he didn't have time for you. This was evident when I asked him where the toilets were and he pointed in the direction of the toilets without so much as a glance up.<br/><br/>We were squished into one of their tables for two which are located in the front corners of the restaurant. We were so close to the window we felt like shop window mannequins. <br/><br/>We ordered to small sliced beef pho, which was competitively priced at $8. When the food arrived, our side plate of herbs and bean sprouts were wilted an on the way out. The flavour of the pho was ordinary and lacked the authentic flavour that I've experienced at other local vietnamese restaurants. It was as if they had tried to create extra flavour by adding salt and stock. The noodles of the pho had a strange taste to them, like they were old or had not been soaked properly.<br/><br/>Also be aware of their $20 minimum EFTPOS spend, which in this day and age in ludicrous and inconvenient. In order to pay via EFTPOS, we told the cashier to round the bill up to $20, inadvertently tipping them for bad service and poor food. Best of visiting Green Tea, Quan Thanh or Trang's.

It's a busy little restaurant with good service but the food didn't stand up to the reputation/ratings. It's a nice restaurant with ok food - nothing to rave about
Edward Vh
This restaurant is "just ok". <br/>I had pho tai and vegetarian rice paper rolls. The taste of the pho broth is a bit flat. In fact all of the items I had tasted a bit flat. Not to say it was bad, but it turns out to be about a 6/10.<br/>Service form staff very impersonal.<br/>Food: 6/10<br/>Service 4/10<br/>Would eat here again though if hankering for pho.
Foodfiend186
Always the best. Never a bad meal at this place. All the usual excellent Vietnamese fare but for something not on the menus of other restaurants with similar cuisine, try the Fish Sambo - beautifully spiced white fish fillets. Yum.

Incredibly efficient & friendly service. Consistency with the meals, been going for 18 months now, they never get it wrong. <br/>Fresh, authentic, affordable food. Love it!!!!

Every good night out in the valley starts at the Vietnamese. Lovely staff and amazing food - it never let's me down! <br/>You can't go past the roll your own fun rolls and the crispy duck.<br/>Must book in advance for Friday and Saturday nights.
Five Dollar Shake
I've eaten an embarrassingly large quantity of crispy duck at this restaurant. So worth it.

Pho shiz!. Great pho! Not the best in Brisbane (need to head to Sunnybank for that) but getting up there! Service is always great, even if you do turn up at 9.30pm for dinner!

Great Delicious Soups!. Had the chicken curry soup with vermicelli noodles. It was totally delicious and insanely cheap. I had a taste of the other soups my friends ordered and they were great too. We shared Crispy Duck with Asian Greens in the middle which was hnnnnng. =P<br/>We haven't tried the rest of the menu yet but the soups are winners. :)

Embarrassing. We took a friend from melbourne to eat at this restaurant and it was terrible. the food had none of the good fresh qualities Vietnamese food should have, it was basically saucy Chinese flavours. Good service but the food is not good quality.

Food was amazing. Dim sims were delicious! Had sizzling beef with Mongolian sauce and crispy eggs noodles with chicken. Yuummmm. New favourite place!

Experience wasnt wonderful until the food came out. Food was magnificent! Speedy food. Lots of food. Good food. Service 3/10.

A solid favourite, don't forget to book!

AMAZING PHO!. The Beef Pho was so god damn amazing, I can't stop thinking about returning so I can try the dish again. Fun rolls (chicken satay) are great too. Great value for money, we didn't have a table booked but only had to wait 15mins. Highly recommend!

Good value for money, enjoyed the stuffed chicken with pork entre
Kat Drabsch
Great value banquets with delicious food only problem is they're so popular it's hard to get a table without booking!

Food was okay. The food was okay for a cheap lunch. I had the rice vermicelli noodle salad with spring rolls. The spring rolls could have been a bit crispier and lacked flavour. The fish sauce mix was not quite there. I was a tad disappointed, but I will give them another go.

After reading all the positive reviews, I was really looking forward to eating here. After a long flight etc. turned up alone at 9.05pm and was abruptly told by the waiter that he could only serve me take away as the kitchen was closing at 9.30, however the menu outside stated that they were open til midnight. I told him that I would be quick as the time was only just after 9pm. He did not want to know and in my opinion was quite rude, so I left rather p off and disappointed. I ended up going to Bon Thai just up the road, where they were far more accommodating, the place was much pleasing to the eye and the food and service was excellent. I suggest that you give the Vietnamese a wide berth and head for the bon Thai!!

Great food, cheap price, friendly service. This is now my favourite Vietnamese restaurant! I had the pho, and I give it a 10/10.

Amazingly delicious!! Great value for money. The staff are great and the made us feel like we were back in Vietnam. Highly recommend the crispy duck, wonton noodle soup, spare ribs and don't forget the Vietnamese iced coffee. Will definitely be back for more

FAVOURITE. This is one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane! I would particularly recommend it for large dinner parties as it is BYO and very good value. I have been here on a number of occasions now and the food is always amazingly delicious! It always tastes super fresh and comes in large portions so it is great for sharing. The service is always really friendly as well. The Vietnamese is a real gem!

Excellent byo! but book early or you wont get a table

Never been disappointed.. I've been here on several occasions for lunch and have never been disappointed with the food or service. <br/>The portions are generous, food is fresh and flavours are authentic. You can even have a Vietnamese beer to wash it down with!<br/>Salt and pepper calamari, crispy duck and the quail dishes are just some of my favourites here.

EAT AND OUT. Went to Vietnamese for our Xmas party on a Wednesday night with 12 people in the upstairs function area. Food was good and fresh but not what I would call outstanding in any way. We sat down at 7:00pm and after desert at 9:30pm we were very promptly asked to leave because they were shutting the restaurant where we were. There was never any offer of coffee nor did staff point out upon booking that there was a ridiculous closing time of 9:30pm. After this experience we would never return. Thumbs definitely down for The Vietnamese when we were expecting so much more.
Yum Yum
This is a favourite place for reliable and delicious Vietnamese food. Crispy duck with Asian greens is really yum and prawn on sugar cane make your own 'fun rolls' are good. Disappointed last visit with the bill though. Whilst each item was the correct amount, the bill total was written as $15 more than it added up to. When raised it was changed but no apology was offered. This was really disappointing from a place that is generally great.
Jacob
Disappointing. By far the worst Vietnamese food I have eaten in Brisbane. Overly greasy and they did manage to screw up our order, several times. The atmosphere downstairs isn't the best either. We must of been the select few unfortunately by the looks of things but I highly doubt I'll ever set foot back in this place again.
Georgia Carter
Was ok , a lot better vietmanies to be had else where in brisbane .
Tamara Priede
Very popular for a Monday night & very easy to see why! Delicious food that was served in a timely manner!! Tyson was a charismatic and attentive waiter. Will definitely go back.
Barney
Missing detail. I loved the taste of the broth used in the Pho, herbs and garnish were spot on but why can't you get the tripe and tendon as an option with the combination? I would also like to see the sugar / chilli / sauce condiments server as an option too. Overall I liked it but it was just lacking the basics most punters look for when comparing the great from just ok.
Sam.M
Great food, fast service. I always leave with a full stomach. This place is busy for a reason and I suggest booking in advance, even just for 2 people.
Riley Casu
This place is a regular for my friends and I. For the price, the food is always delicious. Don't be turned off by the appearance. The Vietnamese is always busy for a reason.
Petrof
Love this place... Have been here over <br/>100 times .. Affordable fresh food...we stick with the fun rolls.. Rice paper rolls you make yourself... Plenty of fresh salad... Great for group get togethers... We order a selection of the fun rolls about $12 a serve, place them in the middle of the table and everyone shares and helps themselves.. It is a great way to get people interacting.. Sharing tactile / hands on food.. Byo ensures everyone can drink what they like rather than of a limited wine list... Chinese new year is fabulous here also... Great menu and atmosphere.

Overall Average. There are some good things and some bad about The Vietnamese food and service, but overall weā€™ve had better experiences at cheaper places. Thereā€™s no doubt that this restaurant is quite popular, but that doesnā€™t mean the food is amazing.<br/><br/>My partner and I went with some friends who had been given rave reviews of The Vietnamese, but had not eaten there before. So we all headed to the restaurant and found it packed when we arrived at 7pm (Oct 2). Good thing I had made a reservation with a pleasant gentleman on the phone that afternoon!<br/><br/>The tables were quite roomy for four people but when my partner and I went to our side of the table we found a third chair. Six patrons is doable but it would be significantly crowded. Good planning on the restaurantā€™s part though!<br/><br/>The staff were friendly enough and really hustling in their busy environment. Bringing over menus, our waitress took drink orders as well, with my friend ordering a Coke which was $3 ā€“ no refills.<br/><br/>The menu had a vast selection and as we were trying to decide, we kept smelling incredible aromas of dishes being brought out around us!<br/><br/>For entrees we decided on sharing the Fried Wontons with Sweet & Sour Sauce ($11) and from the ā€œFun Rollsā€ category, the Prawns on Sugar Cane ($13) which involved the technique of being able to roll your own.<br/><br/>For our mains, we chose the Crispy Skin Chicken with Plum Sauce ($14.50), Crispy Duck with Asian Greens in Mushroom Sauce (which I believe was $20), Flat Rice Noodle with BBQ Pork ($15), and the Sizzling Beef with Mongolian Sauce ($15.50). (And some steamed rice, too.)<br/><br/>Apparently this restaurant has an upstairs as well and with the place completely full the noise level made it a bit difficult to hear. Not that this was as bad as a bar or anywhere near to that, but this might not be a good place for those wearing hearing devices.<br/><br/>Our entrees arrived together and they looked pretty good! The fried wontons were certainly that! Very fried and very crispy! They had a nice crunchiness to them which Iā€™ve never experience before with fried wontons. The filling was somewhat tasty but with no stand out flavour, so it was the sauce that completed this appetizer.<br/><br/>The prawns and sugar cane came with a bowl of water to place the wraps into before adding the fillings and rolling. The prawns were medium in size and were very tender with a beautiful sweet flavour that no doubt came from the sugar cane. Noodles, mint, lettuce and a delicate sauce accompanied the prawns on the plate to be used for the filling of the wrap. A delicate and subtle entree, this was one of the best dishes we consumed that night! <br/><br/>The wait between the entrees and mains was a little longer than it should have been and as our meals did come out it should be noted that the pacing of this was not professionally timed, rather it was more sporadic.<br/><br/>The first two dishes to arrive were the crispy skin chicken with plum sauce and the crispy duck with Asian greens in a mushroom sauce. The crispy skin chicken was awful. It was overcooked, dry, tough and the coating was a deeper brown than it should have been. It was not pleasant to bite into and had absolutely no taste, which I thought was unusual as most of the flavour is in the skin. But with no spices of any kind it was horribly bland and the plum sauce could do nothing to save it.<br/><br/>The crispy duck was definitely better! Soaking in the rich mushroom sauce and with some al dente veggies and the crispiness of the duck, this meal had a lot of flavours and textures to capture oneā€™s attention. Although my partner really enjoyed the duck, I found it to be a bit on the fatty and gristly side. I know duck is fatter, but Iā€™ve never had as many chewy bits before as I had in this one.<br/><br/>After a big gap of time the next dish came out. It was the flat rice noodle with BBQ pork. The noodles were very thick and flat and Iā€™m not sure if it was that they were overcooked or that they had soaked up a lot of sauce, but I found them a bit too soft, almost tearing apart when picking them up with chop sticks. The flavour was delicious and the pork was nicely done; tender and with its distinct flavour. With this dish being so saucy, it was hard to distinguish what vegetables were in it but I did happen to recognize a bit of broccoli, along with some celery and the odd onion piece which I also thought was softer than it should have been. I would have liked to have seen this dish a little less cooked so that the textures could be more noticeable than the soft, mushiness this one was.<br/><br/>The longest wait we had was for the sizzling beef in Mongolian sauce. A hot plate was brought out with onions on it then had the sauce with beef poured over them in front of us. The waiter then tossed it and as we let the sizzle die down, we took in the aroma of it cooking. These dishes always smell amazing! Digging in, the beef was quite nice and tender and the veggies were better as they kept some of their crunchiness. The Mongolian sauce cannot be disputed if it was actually Mongolian or not, but it was light in flavour and certainly very salty. A nice dish, but not rich in flavour; more subtle, but nonetheless, enjoyable.<br/><br/>The portions at The Vietnamese are quite large so we ended up taking the rest to go. Everything we had was quite filling but not as satisfying as we had been led to believe. Although the service was friendly and efficient (even though my friend had to ask a couple of times to get another drink), and the restaurant was clean and neat, the food was not as good as other Vietnamese establishments weā€™ve tried for less cost.<br/><br/>Our friends said that they would probably return, but not be in a rush to do so. My partner and I both agreed that weā€™d go one step further and say in that weā€™ve had better, itā€™s highly unlikely we will be returning.

Don't bother. Unless you have a spare two hours for poor service and average food, don't waste your time. There are plenty more options out there!

Pho soup a must. Quite a bust little place. The pho soup is phenomenal. If you want real authentic Vietnamese I highly recommend. I am now a regular.
Zu
The food is most of the time really nice. The only problem, the A/C or I should say its absence. The horrible heat inside the restaurant made our meal quite unpleasant and we were in a rush to finish the dinner and get out for some fresh air. Food is good but can't really enjoy it with such heat. Not sure if I would go back.

Amazing vegetarian fun rolls!

Busy n bustling, recommend booking on thur-sat nights. Great food and quick efficient service. Fried rice and crispy chicken delicious!

Good??? Nope.... I have travelled up and down the east coast of Australia from Melbourne through Sydney and now to Brisbane and boy was the pho phenomenal. When I reached brisbane, I had high hopes from the reviews of this place but.... it was utterly disappointing! The pho soup was not the clear tasty broth which I have come to expect. The soup was cloudy (ok never mind that) but upon tasting it, all I tasted was a sweet sugary flavour. None of the big beefy flavour I have come to expect when you do a good broth from beef marrow bones and chunks of meat! The default noodles served was the wider kuay tiew type which soaked up all the soup and became soggy after a short short while. I like the slightly toothsome chewy slenderer noodles. The pho was all out disappointing. <br/><br/>I wouldn't be back.

Can't... stop... eating.... I've been to this restaurant so many times, and it is always amazing. Their pho soups and salt and pepper squid and rice paper rolls are absolutely delicious. I haven't tried the duck, but my partner always orders it and looks like his face is going to melt as soon as he starts eating it. Consistently good. Almost always stupendously busy. Make a booking! The best Vietnamese i've had anywhere.
Cocosmooth
Best Pho since Hanoi in 2007. Best Pho I've had since Hanoi in 2007. Packed on a cold, rainy Tuesday night. Bottom line - EAT HERE!
Jake Shields
Book ahead, great food.. Always busy and for a reason! As someone who spent a month in Vietnam I would like to think I know good Vietnamese food and the food here is pretty good!
Enzo S
They serve ok food here though it's not always fresh... Average restaurant but cheap so you get what you pay for.

A great find. We ordered the combination spring rolls, honey chicken, steamed mixed vegetables in oyster sauce and the salt and pepper squid. If you are a brave chilli fan like me, then I recommend requesting their home made chilli paste, which they bring to your table. It was seriously hot but absolutely delicious. Their sizzling dishes were very popular while we were there, so I will probably give those a go next time. The Vietnamese is definitely worth a visit and I look forward to returning again soon.<br/>Food: 7 / 10<br/>Service: 7 / 10<br/>Ambience: 7 / 10

Wonderful Pho, service with a smile please. Excellent Pho broth with rice noodles, and thinly sliced beef. just wonderful and well priced I think it was $10 or just under. I have some friends who are fanatics and go every weekend for the pho. The place is always full of people who obviously keep coming back! top place for pho.<br/>Service is just okay, they should smile at customers as we pay their keep and it is just courteous - isn't it. Food comes out in a reasonable time given they are so busy, but could be a little faster at times, good enough.

Awesome fresh Vietnamese! And it's BYO!! Definitely a great meal for a very decent price
SteveW
Fantastic food and great value. An old favorite that is consistently good.

Turned away. As regulars we booked a table for a Friday night as we know how busy they get. When we arrived on time, the guy at the door didn't have our reservation on his scrap of paper. We were rightfully annoyed as we had left another place to get there on time. He told my husband we had a bad attitude so we decided to go to another vietnamese restaurant down the road. We had always enjoyed The Vietnamese for their fresh food and taken some big groups there too. Shame they can't look after their regular diners
OzEater
Casual, but over hyped. I went on a Monday night to try and avoid the rush. The food was OK, the service kinda slow. Very casual but cheap and hardly any room to move. I think we were literally 30cm away from the next table
Helen H
Fresh and tasty. The roll-your-own fun rolls are great value for money. We eat here about once a fortnight and have a delicious meal every time.
Food Karma
The rude staff pail into insignificance compared to the sand paper tasting rice paper rolls that were ineatible. This was along with the dried out chewy crispy duck. All in all it was dirt cheap for a reason.
Tom
I've only ever been for lunch, and I've tried a couple of times, but the food isn't fresh and it's very bland. The service is very slow.

Fantastic Highly recommended. Discovered this place a couple of months ago after seeing reviews on Urbanspoon and have been there about 5-6 times already which is a decent effort as we live on the Gold Coast. <br/><br/>Haven't had a bad meal yet, would definitely recommend the Quail and also The Crispy Duck with mushroom sauce on the specials board.<br/><br/>By the way i have been here when it is a full house and also a bit earlier in the evening when it isn't as busy and the service is always fantastic. Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Writing this review has made me really hungry!

Since moving to Brisbane I've been trying to find a good Vietnamese restaurant and I have found it! The place was packed but service was still pretty good. We had the prawn and pork rolls and springrolls with salad for entree. Both were excellent and it was fun wrapping the springrolls and salad into the rice paper rolls. Had the crispy duck with mushroom sause and fried chicken with sweet chilli ginger and fish sauce for mains. Again the food was amazing. Can't wait to go back and try more!

Just love it!. We have just moved from interstate and have found it difficult to find restaurants to replace our favourites from back home. We went to The Vietnamese and just loved it, we booked a table, which was a good idea as there was a stream of people lining up to get a table for the whole time we were there. Amazing dishes, hard to pick our favourite so far. The second time we went they forgot one of our dishes, we asked after some time and rather than make you feel terrible for pointing out a mistake they were so helpful, said sorry and brought out the dish asap, then didn't charge us for it. We all make mistakes and to have a venue that takes mistakes on board to makes it up to you is a nice change. Even if they didn't do all this wonderful customer pr work (the staff are so lovely) I would go back for the food again, again and again! Try it, and it is BYO with very low corkage prices.

Happy to come back!. Really great serves with the best flavour and no MSG!<br/><br/>Salt and pepper squid 10/10!<br/><br/>Vietnamese salad oh so good as well!

I really like it here. One of my most visited asian places in Brisbane this places comes with the goods. The inside of the restaurant is tacky, the service is not always there but as long as you serve me delicious food for a reasonable price I really don't GAF. <br/><br/>Ultimate menu items include: salt & pepper squid (best in QLD), duck w/mushroom sauce and chinese greens, fun rolls (make yourself) and the spicy beef pho also good. <br/><br/>I'll keep coming back. As will the chick who does the Ch. 10 news weather which we have seen on occasion in there also.
Brizzz
No go for Pho :(. We went here on a Tuesday night because Trangs of West End was closed and really wanted some beef pho. To our disappointment, it was nowhere near as good. The beef was thicker, drier and rubbery. The soup was nowhere near as tasty and the staff were not very approachable, never once smiling. We both even felt a bit sick once getting home. We won't be going back. It's Trangs for pho in Brisbane.
James Gleeson
A great cheap eats. Some of the best Vietnamese in Brisbane. Love the soups and the home made dim sims are great. Well worth a visit but I would book a table as they are always busy.
Mr. White
Their crispy duck in mushroom sauce is a great dish, and their soups are generally excellent. Expect good food and good value, however the service and cleanliness of the dining area could be improved.

I realised I've been coming to this place for 25 years. Still offers some of the best value in #Brisbane

One of brisbane's treasures. I went here for a work lunch with 20 people and I hadn't heard of it before, but have since discovered it's one of brisbane's well hidden treasures. On a dodgy street in china town, it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food more than makes up for that. Another indication is how popular it is - even for lunch it's always packed. I look forward to going back with other people now that I know about it.
Jazc
It used to be consistently good. I wouldn't have hesitated to say it was the best Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane. Unfortunately it's turned into a hit-n-miss place that sadly reminds you of good old days (of it's own). I used to really enjoy the vege springrolls and spicy vege noodle soup.
Sugarstar
Cheap and so yummy!. Firstly, this restaurant isn't big on ambience or decor - it is very basic and doesn't exactly look like a nice restaurant - more like a take-away joint. It was so cramped and hard to move around, you felt like you were going to walk into people eating their meals! HOWEVER... the food was incredibly delicious and very well priced. <br/><br/>I had the honey chicken which was amazing. A massive plate of honey-drenched battered chicken arrived on crispy noodle thingys. I was amazed how cripsy they stayed while I ate the meal. The chicken used was top-notch, not crappy bits and peices, it seemed to be all breast meat. <br/><br/>My friends and I also shared a sizzling beef dish that came to the table 'sizzling'. It was really delicious as well. <br/><br/>The serving sizes were huge, especially considering it was less than $15 per dish. <br/><br/>So, while the surroundings aren't exactly great, just put up with them to have a really delicious and well priced meal!
Clare McCann
LOVE IT!!. I spent a few months in the Valley in 2008 and ate in this restaurant a few times, their chicken in chilli and garlic speciality is AMAZING!!!!! the service was never that good but food and price made up for that
Brooke
Very Very Average. Went there over Easter - the place was packed so we thought this should be a good indicator for a restaurant we hadn't tried before - how wrong we were. I'm always concerned of any place where I don't recognise ANY of the wines on the wine list so our choice was a bit of a punt & we ended up with an extremely average quite sweet Shiraz/Cabernet with our meal. The rice paper rolls were dry & quite short on mint & prawn (2 of the chief constituents of this dish); the steamed fish was chunky & also fairly dry, almost bland in its flavour, while the deep fried pork spare ribs (which were supposed to be on the bone) contained no bone & while probably the best dish we had that night, they were also a bit dry. Service was erratic but friendly. I reported the above comments when we were paying the bill but received no response back from the person behind the counter. Perhaps we're spoiled in Sydney but I sincerely hope brisbane has better Vietnamese restaurants than this one.
Table For 3 Thanks
This was not our first visit, and with good reason. We really like this place that has been a Brisbane institution as long as I can remember. There are no delusions of grandeur just tasty hearty meals at reasonable prices. If you donā€™t have a reservation make sure you arrive early as the fill up quickly for lunch and dinner. Cooper ā€“ confronted with the pictures in the menu requested the Cambodian spring rolls. After searching the menu with no luck I realised that he meant ā€œcombinationā€ spring rolls! They were of the rice paper style you would expect in a Vietnamese restaurant and fried crunchy. Delicious ā€“ they didnā€™t last long. For mains we had Ho Fun noodles with BBQ pork. The noodles were super slippery with lots of veges and meat. We also had fried egg noodles with beef which again had lots of yum veg. The last dish was crispy chicken and plum sauce. This certainly lived up to its name. I love crispy chicken! All the main meals were around $15 and generous servings. We had 1 entree and 3 main meals for 4 people and couldnā€™t finish the food on the table. Iā€™m sure we will be backā€¦ā€¦. Ā  Ā
Brisbane Eats
... make-your-own rolls, where they supply you with all the ingredients to make your own Vietnamese spring rolls. Feeling lazy, we opted for the pre-made ones. Unfortunately, the fresh pork rolls werenā€™t so fresh and tasted and felt like they were made some hours before. They were still great but lacked that extra freshness that we all associate with Vietnamese cuisine. The rice noodles felt stiff, the rice paper was cluggy and not enough mint/coriander.
Hannah Lewis
...interior of this place is about as bland as the name. But, what they lack in creativity and style they make up for in flavoursome food and serious bang for buck. You can get a small or large pho here, the small which is actually big will cost you only $9.
A Matter Of Taste
The stock is very fragrant, topped with fresh and crisped onion and packed with noodles, meet and herbs.

A recommendation from friends brought a group of people together at this simply named restaurant, and what a good one it was. We enjoyed bean curd salad in rice paper, rolled by an expert (it turns out you are supposed to fashion the wraps into parcels, rather than the pipes I have vainly sought to manufacture in the past), vegetables in satay sauce, and steamed green vegetables with garlic (the cook kindly substituted this for the oyster sauce that is usually used; the combination of greens with garlic, which has parallels in Greek cooking, provides a simple yet utterly satisfying taste.) But the highlight of our meal was the wondrous vegetarian spicy noodle soup, in which many vegetables and thin noodles came swimming in a thick sea that was flavoured with flecks of chili and dried fried onions. Not only was the soup delicious, but it was served in an enormous bowl filled nearly to the top! The qual

We must have ordered the wrong dish since this place has quite a high rating. Will I be back though?
Melissa Loh
Topped with fresh herbs and sliced onions, the combination noodle soup has the fragrant beefy goodness that is characteristically Vietnamese pho, but the selection of beef bits is far tamer than what weā€™re used to. This only had thinly sliced beef and beef balls, so for those who prefer a bit of offal in their pho, you might have to have a word with the chef.
Dolce Bunnie
Both of us absolutely LOVED the crispy beef strips. The great sensation of sweetness and spiciness worked their magic and left a lingering taste in my mouth . I strongly recommend this dish!
Cora Chen
We had a good time at The Vietnamese. There were a couple of misses with the dishes we ordered but I think that's more so to do with our personal taste than the dishes being 'bad'. We've been there enough times to know that overall, they offer a good range of food done well. The service is speedy and the BYO aspect is a great bonus.
