Review Stokehouse Q - Brisbane

Aimee Pearce
Food: Absolutely delicious food. Nice variety of meat, fish and vegetable dishes. Also had gluten free options. We had appetizers and mains with shared sides and it was plenty of food. Service: Impeccable service. Explained the specials and offered advice when asked. Always made sure we were hydrated and our glasses were not empty. Truly professional. Well done. Atmosphere: Gorgeous setting along the river. It was a 35°day but it was pleasant to sit inside with all the open windows open.

Lovely place by the water just past the bridge. Great location for groups as well as loved ones. In my case good dear old friends. Nice dim lit environment, exceedingly friendly and knowledgeable staff who were very good with their food and drink recommendations. Good selection of wines, overall a healthy mix of both seafood and fish as well as more turf options such as steak and lamb. Definitely recommended. Expensive but not prohibitively so - recommended.

Had a wonderful birthday meal here. Great views and great attention from the staff. Always keeping our water and wine glasses full. Have great recommendations for food and we were not disappointed. Will be returning to try out some more great food!

Me a mate were looking for a nice steakhouse whilst around the area. While Pokemon hunting in Southbank, saw this had great reviews. We gave it a go and was blown away with the quality of the service they had here. They didn't bat an eye even though we weren't "dressed" like the other patrons and the staff were very friendly. Accommodating with our questions and offered recommendations with our choice of wine. The steak on that wasn't on the menu is superb! I'd say #2 on my list now. Will definitely be back here and bring my partner to get to try this place. Awesome view as well of the river and the CBD. If you want value for money, I'd say this a place definitely is. For the quality matched the price. A little steep for everyday dining but not too bad for once a week. Also the gin an tonic is a must palette aperitif!

Wonderful lunch enjoying the river view. Standout dishes were the raw scallops, tempura zucchini flowers, prawn tacos and Fraser Isle spanner crab on corn bread dressed with lemon myrtle - delicate flavours perfectly balanced. Excellent service capped a relaxing afternoon
Martin Bondoc
Good service. Their fish a chips were delicious. Their oysters were quite small though. I felt a bit cramped as well in our 4-person table. The four of us kept hitting each other's legs.

We had a small group there today (4 ppl) for my wife's staff Xmas lunch. Amazing food first and foremost, However the wait staff are incredible. I quizzed our hostess on many of the dishes, and she never missed a beat, describing each dish with knowledge and passion. I am 57 yrs of age, and my wife and I eat out in Brisbane often - This was the best meal we have ever had BAR NONE! - If you're looking for a cheap pub feed, go elsewhere, but if you're looking for an amazing food experience, for those special occasions - Then this in your venue. I have included some pics of our food today, to get you salivating.

Beautiful setting and friendly knowledgeable staff. The food, especially seafood was perfectly cooked. Highlight was the grilled crayfish with finger lime and yuzu dressing, which at $50 without a side is pricey, but worth it.

Have been to Stokehouse many times and every time it has been a new inventive menu, with spectacular food and impeccable service from the staff. Last night was no different as my partner and I celebrated our anniversary there. The flavours are incredible and their own Stokehouse Pinot Noir was delicious. Would recommend to anyone!

We stopped in around 9:30 on Sunday night..no booking. Wait staff were really friendly and helpful. The food and wine were great. A bit pricey but the quality of the food and the view were awesome. Would def return.

Staff were great, food great, view great but $15 for a beer? Come on! Price of food a bit on the high end as well. Tipped the staff accordingly and then rounded up tip to next ten dollars only to be stung with a credit card surcharge anyway that I thought was a bit cheeky. If my local bakery can not surcharge for a $2 loaf of bread why does a $250 outlay have to attract a surcharge. Would've been 5 stars without the financial grievances.

One of our favs. Great food and first-rate staff. We are regulars and never disappointed.

Ordered my $60 Med-Rare steak only to have it arrive cooked Med-Well. Advised the waiter who seemed unperturbed. Pointed to my husband’s steak which he ordered Medium, and was pinker than mine! Steak was taken away only to have the Manager swan by to let me know this is how the Chef cooks Med-Rare - really?! Third time I have had a less than ok experience at Stokehouse...third times a charm? Not here.

In fairness we didn’t have a booking but it was Saturday, we were told an hour wait so settled in with cocktails and munchies, an hour later told about 20 minutes but eventually seated two hours later. Advised if we ate the steak with resting would be another 40 minutes so gave that a miss. The food was amazing and our waiter was fantastic so overall good but definitely not a two hour wait great.

The food amazing The views breathtaking The service hard to beat But what made this even more special was the thoughtfulness of the staff who remembered I booked this for our wedding anniversary so when we ordered desert the plate came out with the words “happy anniversary “ written on it thank you so much team for making a beautiful occasion unforgettable

Sensational food with a fantastic view. Full marks, and a special mention to our waiter Russell. I can't think of a better outlook in Brisbane, highly recommended!

Beautiful food, great setting, fantastic friendly staff, but please install some ceiling fans at least. Unbearable sitting there in this February heat and humidity.
Rosemary Blanch
Superb evening. The food was amazing, the staff were so attentive but discreet and our table for 2 by the river was spot on. We had a great first experience of Stokehouse and hope to come back to repeat the experience.
Thomas Mooney
Outstanding food and wine. Service was excellent. The lady we had looking after us really took the time to describe the menu and the wine list. Thank you
Sarah Murphy
Really great views, friendly and attentive staff and absolutely delicious food! Thanks for making our anniversary dinner a really special occasion :)

The new $45 2 course lunch with a glass of wine is a must do for any foodie! Great spot, exceptional service and glorious food! Vouchers are available too what a great present!

Boyfriend and I came for dinner for 4 year anniversary, they wished us happy anniversary as we arrived and when we got our deserts wrote " happy anniversary" in chocolate on both of our plates. Staff was lovely and polite, The steak is to die for and gorgeous scenery. We had amazing time there and it was a lovely anniversary dinner. Thank you so much guys.

Great food, view & fireworks overlooking the river. Exceptional customer service provided my Claire, a very enjoyable evening.

Way over-priced. Slow bar service. Crappy management skills when my wife, with extensive Michelin Star restaurant experience, was guilt tripped and lied to over an obviously way over-cooked, over-priced steak, in a very shabby attempt at avoiding fixing the issue. Major fail. Good location and river views, but won't hurry back.

Great service great food It's not cheap around $130 a head but worth every bit

Staff very friendly and attentive, very nice setting and view. Entree was fantastic, mains (for the price) were good but not amazing, but that may have just been that item only.

Today my wife and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary with lunch at Stokehouse...Q. We have dined there twice before but this time our experience was underwhelming!<br/><br/>My wife ordered the Baked Oysters as an entree but part of the shell had broken off and was under one of the oysters. My wife at first thought it was a piece of rock salt but soon realised it was worse than that. The management responded well to this and deducted the cost from our bill, for which we are grateful.<br/><br/>Then came our mains...the Snapper meal and Brussel Sprouts side salad for my wife, and the Lamb meal with Cauliflower side salad for me. The fish was nice but the lamb was was quite chewy. However, the worst part of the meals were the side salads which were extremely charred and lacked flavour, particularly the Brussel Sprout side salad.<br/><br/>The flavour of the vegetables in the salads was overpowered by the overcharring, and even after chewing some gym in the car as we drove away, it took quite some time before this flavour abated. As I said previously, our experience this time was underwhelming!
Linda
Came for dinner tonight. The ambience the service were great. The food... was good but it did not wow me. The fish portion was very small even for fine dining establishments. My partner’s steak however was cooked to order and tasted “yum.” All in all a mixed bag of experience tonight.

Went here on a weeknight to celebrate a birthday. The food was delicious as you would expect it to be with the price of the items.<br/><br/>Would recommend to anyone who wants a decent fine dining experience. The staff were friendly and the service was good.
Daniel
The food was good, but for the price I would expect better though. Service and ambience were fantastic but the devil is in the details and the detail the matters most is what’s on the plate.
Tanya
Loved this restaurant! The most perfectly cooked steak, beautiful beef tartare, very attentive and friendly staff, and a gorgeous outlook. I absolutely recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back.
Andybeetle
My wife and I dined here on a weeknight for our anniversary and generally we enjoyed the experience. The location, view, ambience, design and acoustics are excellent, and the service was quite good. We ordered specials for the mains for around $50 each, a side of greens, a glass of wine each and a couple of desserts for $175 in total. The quality was quite good, but for the price the portions were simply too small. My fish was around 100g which would put it's market price at around $300kg. I think that would be unlikely. Likewise I don't know of lamb reaching that price level.<br/><br/>Small portions are a trend in modern dining however I think Stokehouse has pushed the limit here, which left us feeling somewhat dissatisfied. We are not big eaters nor frequent diners, however I think fine dining should feel like a treat. A moderate increase in portion size isn't going to break a restaurant budget or reputation as a modern fine dining establishment.

A terrific location and simply lovely food - well done. I found the menu diverse, with a few surprises. I didn’t pick the wine, so can’t comment on the selection, but from what I was told, it was ok, for Brisbane. A table near the water is a must if you can get it, but the breezes and views are a highlight from most seats. The fitout is good and seating comfortable - a little squeezy between tables - but you gotta make a dollar - odd chair at each table is interesting. My food was excellent, well presented, timely, full of flavour and the grass fed wagyu perfectly cooked (I have no idea how people eat a wagyu medium-rare or worse rare - if you want it raw have it prepared and served raw correctly - not partially warmed!?). There was clearly a wide choice of meals. My partners octopus was however, tough - if you can’t cook it, don’t put it on the menu. The service was attentive but not engaging and while it appeared to be trying to be more - it wasn’t - throwing random people at the table from all directions (not sure if they were owners or not) without conversation or introduction does little for me - perhaps it helps management, somehow. The “hour” long reading of the specials board - while I enjoyed the variety it provided - doesn’t help. Overall, worth the visit and experience.

Disappointing. The head waiter (Ben?) initially thought we ordered a $550 bottle of champagne and proceeded to place plates in front of us for complimentary oysters. At this point we realised they made a mistake (treating us like royalty) so we informed them straight away there was a mistake. The head waiter immediately started snatching the plates away from us and saying only “special” patrons were deserving of oysters and that we “definitely said chose that bottle”. We ended up having an awkward dinner and paying an exxy price for average food. The young waitress was in fact incorrect when she initially took our beverage order and he blamed it on us. Very uncomfortable and then he was out of the picture the rest of the night. What a waste of money. $50 for average fish and chips. Won’t be back.
Paul
Like most higher end restaurants in Brisbane I found the service let the place down. Our waitress was good but the greeter and other staff acted like our presence was an imposition they could have done without. Getting seated at the table we booked involved being palmed off by 3 different staff. <br/><br/>We enjoyed the food and wine but it’s just too expensive to be putting up with crap from staff who CBF dong their jobs properly. It’s also the first time I’ve chosen not to leave a tip at a nice restaurant. <br/><br/>Doubt I’ll go back. Very different experience to Stokehouse Restaurant in St Kilda.

Visited the Stokehouse Q for dinner as the location was excellent. Booked on the day over the phone for a 6:00 sitting and found the person taking my call to be rather disdainful. Particularly with making it clear that we needed to vacate the table by 8:15.<br/><br/>The service was attentive and our waitress particularly patient as we took some time to look at the menu and order. The food options were good and the wine menu extensive (though overpriced), the Moreton Bay Bug salad was delicious, but a little too polite. The chicken for mains and market fish were both good as was the side of greens.<br/><br/>We finished just on 8:15 and the place was mostly empty so unsure why the need to be so pointed on leaving by 8:15 when I booked.<br/><br/>The bill for two people came to $250 with a bottle of wine and no dessert. Not great value for money. It was an excellent view though..
Treasures
For a fine dining restaurant - we have been disappointed chiefly with just the quality of the food.  The service, view and atmosphere is very nice, but is obviously expected where a meal for two costs $150-200 (depending on drinks).  The fish was incredibly boring, chicken was bland and steak was average.  I could go into detail regarding the meal specifics, however it's just not warranted.  We won't be back to Stokehouse unless they do a major overhaul on the food.
The Grinches
Had a work customer dinner here. I am adventurous with my food, but the current menu did nothing for me. There was a lot of seafood in the menu, and if you are allergic or don’t like seafood, give this place a miss. I had steak, which I usually don’t when I go out as I have mine blue and restaurant steak is so aged now there is no juice and it’s dry and tasteless, but there wasn’t many options. I will say the complimentary sour dough bread was really good, but still had to wait for over an hour for mains. Dessert menu was average too. Awesome views, but pricey. Won’t be back, even if I’m not paying.
Eat Out
Made a reservation for a party of six for lunch, the 2 other couples were there early and had already opened a bottle of champagne. <br/><br/>We ordered wagyu, salmon which was cooked very nicely. Also drank Nz pinot and a boujoulais.<br/><br/>The weather was just perfect, which added to the Stokehouse specialty, the location.

Way over-priced. Slow bar service. Seriously poor management skills when my wife, with extensive Michelin Star restaurant experience, was guilt tripped and lied to about an obviously over-cooked $60 steak, in a very shabby attempt at avoiding fixing the issue. The female manager's a fool or the chef's incompetent, or both. Major fail. Spent well over $800 on a small group lunch, good location and river views, but won't be back.

Food was excellent. Service was a little slow for a Friday lunch though. Views were nice, definitely a more relaxing ambience so don't come here on your lunch break expecting you can dash back to work right after. Staff were very friendly

A birthday milestone warranted a special occasion restaurant and Stokehouse Q delivered. We had a table with a lovely view. The service was excellent all through lunch, although at times slightly rushed (even though we were aware that there was a function occurring). The food was all delicious and our request to share all dishes was met without fuss.

Have been there twice and both times they amazed me with their service and the quality of their meals. You just want to savour every bite. You will never leave disappointed or hungry

Returned for another special occasion this time at night. Food was beautiful.Chicken brûlée,smoked eel pate, prawn taco, scallop  and  pumpkin risotto, and octopus entrees all excellent. Most of us had the market fish for main which was farmed barramundi that was treated well. The chips were very moorish and the wine selection good. Service was on the ball. For a special occasion, a better table would have been nicer away from the kitchen door. Second time we've been seated here and although they closed the doors the draft through the bar area was chilly. Great view especially at night.

Decent vegan options, just be sure to ask for the separate vegan menu. Excellent service and reasonable prices for the quality of food on offer.

Me and my husband went to stakehouse to celebrate his birthday. This place is really good for date nights and romantic dinners. The staff was really friendly and the food was delicious. We had a lovely time there. The scenery from the restaurant is breathtaking.

Went to Stokehouse for a friend's birthday. We selected from a reduced menu, it was ok but not fabulous. Dessert was the standout. Service was a little over attentive.
Candy Fco
Food was okay, a bit noisy on the night we went, didn't have a high chair , atmosphere was okay, could be better tho. Service was good. A bit over price
Ange
My work had a team function here. We were treated to the space upstairs which was set up beautifully. From the set menu I chose the Butternut Pumpkin and Spinach Rotolo, Grilled Eye Fillet and the Cheese Platter.  I was very impressed at the professionalism that the staff of Stokehouse Q. showed during the course of our lunch/afternoon. The food was amazing and the steak was cooked perfectly! Definitely want to come back and try their normal dining menu!
Jess
Really great long lunch at Stokehouse Q. Whilst it is the upper end of price, the service and quality lives up to the cost.<br/>We had a variety of dishes, each of our group was really happy with their choices. My fish of the day was swordfish with really interesting accompaniments of sweet corn reduction, chilli & a cucumber salad with heirloom variety cucumbers. The fish was seared, firm flesh and worked really well with the other flavours.<br/>Also really impressed with the variety of dishes on the menu!<br/>The wine list was very extensive with a split between local & imported varieties.<br/>Our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without going to far.<br/>Setting is beautiful on the River and surprisingly not too noisy even though it was full. <br/>Highly recommended for a special meal out!

Had a lovely evening on the river, perfect location! Food was delicious, in particular I liked the risotto starter, definitely recommend it! We all loved the evening with good wine also
Theitalianfoodie
Visited Stokehouse for lunch over the Christmas break for the second time and could not fault. Service, atmosphere and food was all fantastic. We had the parmasan bread sticks and gnocchi for entree and the special mushroom risotto for main. They need to add the mushroom risotto to the main menu as I would come back frequently to order that dish!
Rebecca
A great birthday lunch. The staff were attentive but also let you know you could take your time with no need to rush, as the restaurant got busier though the level of attention did drop off. As a solo diner they still gave me a seat with a view (this doesn't always happen). The food was tasty and nicely prepared.
Sallysfoodadventures
Food was absolutely amazing, very well done and all delicious. I had planned to give a 5 star review, however unfortunately, one of the wait staff decided it was totally appropriate to engage in a political debate with my friend. Everyone else was fantastic with their service, but I'm sorry, that is just totally unacceptable. My mum and I felt really awkward as she invited herself more and more in our table conversation. A short comment I can ignore and disregard, but to continue on with their opinion on the matter with customers is not acceptable. For such a lovely restaurant I was very surprised and disappointed to witness that behaviour.
Kik
Sad to say this place listed as one of our least favourite restaurants in Brisbane. Not only is it expensive, the food itself was a total let down. Our tuna steak was meant to be served rare, but came out dry and well done. Entrees and appetisers equally as disappointing. The service was at least good and there are wonderful views over the river.
Harrison
Went for some dessert and a drink - absolutely delicious desserts here! We had the berry meringue creation, a superbly sophisticated dessert. Recommend 10/10. Also great alcoholic ginger beer yum!

There is a restaurant and a more casual bar/snack area. Today I'm casual after the city hopper ferry. Relaxing on holidays surrounded by water and A smoked TOMMY Margherita is good, add a soft shell crab slider on a milk bun and life couldn't get much better at this moment.

A couple of weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend a conference with a few other colleagues in Brisbane. A dinner was booked at Stokehouse Q in Brisbane’s Southbank precinct for the 8 of us on our first night. Being the foodie I am, I instantly looked up the restaurant and could see quite a few positive reviews so I was excited to check it out!
I Make Food Into Nards
I want to rip into this restaurant and give it hell for being over the top swank (and the same word but dropping the 's'). But despite my temptations I can't fault it, unlike my credit card did. <br/>Wine, meals, furniture, outlook, atmosphere it ticked all the boxes. I could use a 'stoked' pun to top this review off, but no dad jokes tonight.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Great location, good service and beautifully presented food. I hosted a business lunch for 8 here a few weeks ago and it made a wonderful impression on our guests from overseas.  The food was beautifully presented, and aside from the Jamon Serrano, everything was delicious.  Very pricey!  My wife and I like to pop in for a drink and a nibble to kick-off date night and then work our way down South Bank to slightly less pricey options.

My partner had such a great time here for a long Sunday lunch.  The staff were friendly, accommodating and professional.  The food was fantastic (we had the beef tongue and crab cannelloni for firsts, the lamb and scotch fillet for mains) and the sommelier chose us a couple of beautiful reds.  We were committed to a lazy day on the river, so took forever to get through our meals and drinks and never once felt any pressure to move along or free up the table. My partner was away for his birthday, and as this was a belated celebration of sorts, so the staff organised for a small plate of chocolates  us to go with our dessert cocktails, a really thoughtful touch.<br/><br/>Such  a lovely experience all round.  I'd definitely recommend Stokehouse Q for a special occasion, or even just pop along to the bar for a couple of drinks on the river.<br/><br/>Loved it
Love Food.
Went here for a work dinner and it was flawless. Great drinks on arrival entrees were perfect and fillet steak for main was brilliant - and the chips were to die for!

Brisbane is a Australia’s third largest city and if you have not had the chance to get there, it is a quick flight from Sydney (70 minutes) and located slightly inland from the north-eastern coastline. Brisbane is a river city, with the Brisbane River splitting the area into north and south. On the south side of the river, sits Stokehouse Q, quietly tucked in the southern end of the burgeoning South Bank restaurant, bar and entertainment district. By taxi from the city it takes only 5-7 minutes to arrive if the traffic is forgiving.  Tonight we hail a taxi from Fortitude Valley and it takes 15 minutes mainly due to the long weekend traffic.
Foodie Mookie
Stokehouse Q is right by the Brisbane River so you get a lovely view on a good night.  The food is pretty good too with a modern Australian a la carte menu on the finer side however the atmosphere is relaxed and relatively informal. It is a great place to take friends and family.

Whilst expensive the location and staff are brilliant. Cocktails are awesome and perfect. It is a little pricey though especially the wine list but it's a choice I guess. I would come back more frequently but for the cost otherwise very nice. I rated less only due to cost. The out door seating on a nice Sunday is perfect. Try catching a ferry across to complete your Sunday afternoon.

Went to storehouse on 1st April must have been a April's fools joke venue and service was very nice . Food however was another thing paid $56 for scotch fillet could have gotten a better one at the local pub also my partner got pork special it was very fatty hasselback potatoes were over done . Not at all very pleasant .the amount they charge it should be better
Slick Chef Extraordinaire. Gangster Of Food.
The food was absolutely outstanding! Expensive but excellent! The service was a little hit and miss, we had a few different staff waiting on our table (which I thought was odd) it took a long time for our drinks to arrive but they were very busy anf the food was divine so easily forgiven.

Had the brisket at the stokehouse on a rainy Friday night. While the view was nice of the Brisbane river that was where the niceties end.<br/><br/>The brisket was without a doubt the worst $40 meal I have ever eaten. The brisket was dry, tasteless and the portion size was tiny. A two dollar sizzle steak from Coles would have been more succulent and flavoursome, the Brussel sprouts had a foul burnt flavour and there was a poor attempt at some sort of spinach mush. <br/><br/>Needless to say I will not be returning to this premise. Instead of working on your extensive and overpriced wine menu I suggest working on your expensive and less than average food menu.<br/>
Sean Kennaway
Been twice in the past 2 weeks and it's confirmed its excellence and value. The same service and food quality would cost you 30% more in Melbs or Sydney. A really beautiful location looking at the city across the river through the trees. Could eat here every week.
John S
Dined here recently and found the food extremely overpriced and uninspiring. The dishes were the usual fare lacking any creative twists. Service was mediocre and far from attentive given the price you are paying. I certainly wouldn't subject myself a second time when there are so many other choices that do it better for cheaper.
Catdog
I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ate and the view of the river at night was very nice. Not cheap but for a special occasion well worth it.. Nice cocktails too!
WeAreHungry
A good spot to spend the afternoon with family and to have a few drinks. The view is good but it's a little bit far away from the good spots. Unfortunately, the food and the cocktails are just ok, nothing really tasty.
Murphy75
Classic date spot at one of the best locations on the river, deciding on a easy casual dining experience we ventured to the bar end for drinks and a light meal, what can be said but cold beer and the best expresso martinis made in Brisbane is a great way to start the night, with wonderful views of the city night lights and a great atmosphere deciding on food was a challenge, reading the extensive bar menu with all manor of great food options we decided on a few share plates, crumbed prawns, spiced sausage, crumbed chicken and chicken pate..... well if the bar food is a reflection of the quality food they make for the restaurant then diners at both points of the establishment are spoilt, the food was sublime, mix this with great staff, great atmosphere, great drinks and not to forget the great views the Stokehouse deserve all the accolades it has already received and hopefully many more to come. While price wise Stokehouse is on the high end it delivers on every dollar spent, for a NO budget dining experience I would recommend it to all.
JMc
Love the location and the drinks were tip top but the food was a bit of a let down. Ordered the steak and recommended sides and ended up with a very unbalanced meal. The Asian greens were well over salted and the mixed veggies were undercooked with a confused creamy sauce. My partner had the chicken dish which was ok but given the price we expected more.
LeSlie Li
Nice view along the riverside but it was a bit chill at night. We had Crab soup and mushroom ball as entrée. Steak and market fish as main which are quite nice. Love the potato as side dish.
The Espresso Alliance
Stokehouse boasts one of the most ideal locations in Brisbane. Right on the river (in fact, partially over it) with a incredible view of the city, it is my go to spot for a drink on a sunny day. Split into two spaces, a relaxed bar with bar food, and a fine dining restaurant, they cater for any mood. The service is great across both venues with both table and bar service in the bar area. whether you're after some great sweet potato chips or a steak of the highest quality, from my experience the food is really well done. The downside? This food, service and view comes at a price, as can be expected.
Leah Burnett
I dined at Stokehouse for a date night and was pleasantly surprised after hearing mixed reviews. The service, food and location were fantastic! I have recommended this to friends and look forward to dining here again.

Stokehouse is one of those places where we've heard about but never quite found. And it is hard to find (sort of) , there's no parking on site so make sure to park at South Bank Parklands and take a short walk. First I was resentful of that fact but once you walk in to the restaurant and see the full frontage of river and city views--all's forgiven.<br/>Stokehouse is one of those places where we've heard about but never quite found. After a recent Brisbane visit we came here just for drinks and it was such a lovely lovely place. Right on the bend, in a perfect position it looked right out to the river with the most luxurious decor. Great wines and Champagnes and staff were impeccable<br/>

Initial service was prompt and polite but the meals took around an hour before they arrived. Meal quality was also poor. The risotto was very watery and salty. The side of chilli chips was better. <br/><br/>Nice location but not worth the price.
Nicola
Beautiful restaurant in a great location with excellent food. I had the beef cheek ragu pasta, which was delicious and different to the usual, which was nice. Everyone had a lovely night and great meals. The desserts were also very nice, with the standout being the bomb Alaska. Service is fantastic and would definitely return. It is however quite expensive and the tables are very small.

Mama Pham and work friend Foodie Auntie have started going to restaurants together all the time, if they're not working together, they're constantly having each other for dinner or heading out to restaurants together. This was one of the occasions where they invited VGirl and myself along. Foodie Auntie and her daughter Foodie Cousin are more inclined to fancier food places than my family are. They said that the food here was delicious so off we went!

Stokehouse is a great place for a first date. Impressive views, well-presented food and the ambience isn't pretentious. I had a fish of the day special (jade perch, shellfish and bonita broth) - I never order fish - and it was absolutely delicious! The signature "Bombe" dessert is the must-have on the menu. In my opinion, a definite top 3 dessert in Brisbane! If your budget doesn't stretch to Stokehouse (not a place to count your pennies), then pop into Stoke Bar next door.
Russell T
Came here for a drink and some lunch - we stayed in the StokeBar section. Had one of the best cheeseburgers of my life! Just fantastic. Great service too. Will definitely come back for some dinner at the 'real' part of the restaurant :)

With the Brisbane River so close you can hear the water lapping the bank, Stoke Bar at Stokehouse Q certainly offers an attractive place to enjoy a cocktail or two. Richard Ousby, who is now Executive Chef for all the Stokehouse Restaurants, has an interesting new cocktail and bar menu that provides plenty of options for anyone who just wants a casual graze with a hard-to-beat view.
Jacqui's Food Fetish
From the moment my taxi pulled up at the front of Stokehouse I just knew that this was going to be a great evening. It’s an appealing modern structure right on the river.  The area was developed after the 2011 Brisbane floods and Stokehouse, from the same people as Melbourne’s Stokehouse, opened its doors in late 2012.  The food is modern Mediterranean, using local and Australian produce.  I was still just as excited when I got inside – a beautiful outlook with views back towards Brisbane city and the Storey Bridge, with ferries chugging back and forth just to complete the picture.  It was a perfect warm night and the entire front of the restaurant was opened up so it was almost like outdoor dining.

So disappointed with our visit to Stokehouse.....<br/><br/>This had been bookmarked to take my husband to for a 'date night' for some time, based on reading reviews, and hearing great things from my Melbourne work friends.<br/><br/>So we go there 6 months ago, and found the menu to be very peculiar - we genuinely struggled to find a mains we would enjoy and ended up both selecting the fish and chips.  This proved to be good, but wasn't really what we felt like.  Service was below average - we had 2 changes of waiter as there was an 'issue' with staffing.  Pricing of meals was too high.  View of river was excellent.<br/><br/>We will head back for pre-dinner drinks at the bar, but definitely not for a meal.

Top restaurant with a fantastic setting right on the Brisbane River. The crudo of black Kingfish was a great starter - beautiful fish cured with tart citrus. Schulz family roast pork was the special main and it was a good choice. Generous portions of cutlets served with creamy polenta and jus was a hearty winter dish. Attentive service and a good wine list by the glass.

I haven't had the pleasure of eating here as yet. As a place to sit and relax on a Friday this place really cant be beaten, It seems to attract a good crowd and the staff are very attentive. I'll happy go again and will try the food too,

How Disappointing.....we had high expectations and were let down badly.  I know the review should be about food, but when you arrive and the first person you meet doesn't Smile at you, then waitress upon waitress look as sour as the first item on the menu. You can only hope the food presents better. Unfortunately it didn't, the menu tried to disguise itself with wordy descriptions and Overpriced selections. The food however did arrive quickly but once again nothing better than a suburban cafe or to justify the Overpriced selections.<br/>Save your money and give Stokehouse a miss, you'll get better valve and a Smile from any market or small cafe around Southbank.

As the top five restaurant in Brisbane from Gourmet Traveller, I have a high expectation on this restaurant. Doubtless, the waterfront view is the selling point plus a table with privacy as the bonus that really bring me a nice start. Although it was a busy festival night, I found that the dishes were well organizing. The only negative was the plating on the dishes were a bit down. Overall, ambient, food and service are brilliant.

This is a place Bono should hear about, sweetie. Sometimes you visit a restaurant where the service and food is so relentlessly bad that one begins to feel weird and empty when there isn’t anything about which to be outraged. Such was our dining experience at Stokehouse.<br/><br/>Firstly, I think it churlish to pick on wait staff for being lazy when they're literally not intellectually advanced enough to nourish themselves without benefit of a sippy cup. I'm not being snotty about wait staff in general, many of whom are hardworking, food knowledgeable and professional, just this particular stamp of wait staff.<br/><br/>Our meal took forever and when asked if there was a problem in the kitchen, our waitress pointed aimlessly around the room at the blurry objects she thought might be fellow wait staff, but may just have been wax figures at Madame Tussauds (in truth I was having difficulty telling the difference myself) and muttered inexplicably about poultry. <br/><br/>If this were not obtuse enough, we then went through a wine ordering pantomime that had us wondering why we put time and effort into this dumb little show rather than just ordering a Bundy and Coke, which seemed fitting as we suspected we were grouped with some fellow diners to whom one wait staff referred as “Brisbane plebs”. I really wish I was joking about that. <br/><br/>The food typified all that is fast, pretentious and subcutaneously oily in restaurant cooking, especially the Wagyu, although the menu was clever, modern and balanced and some of the dishes sounded delicious.<br/><br/>With Stokehouse, god finally got to see what he’d created close up. And, wept.

...Our last appetizer was a crudo of fresh seafood which today was cobia and flathead ($16). The plate that the crude was served on was actually made by head chef Richard Ousby. In case you are interested, the plates are made out of white raku clay and glazed with Rockingham Brown and Oyster White Speckle. Also on the plate was a tomatillo pickle, which went very well with the firm fresh fish. However, I would have liked to have more of it on the plate.

Thursday night dining. Eight of us dined last evening and all agreed the food was overpriced and child menu servings .<br/>Tables too close to heat from kitchen and table staff knocking into chairs while trying to pass by.<br/>Desserts are incredibly expensive.<br/>Disappointing dining experience.<br/>Would not recommend this restaurant .<br/><br/>Positive comments - brilliant cool outlook over Brisbane River and good table service .

Very poor steaks. Stopped by for lunch today and ordered a steak. It was basically a lump of fat which was so rubbery I couldn't even cut it into pieces with a steak knife. Although I realise wagyu is a bit more fatty, as I was patronisingly informed by the staff when I mentioned this, I would have to had literally ripped the steak apart with my teeth to eat it and Spend the better part of the afternoon chewing it to swallow. I've never had a worse steak. Not impressed - would not recommend - wil not be returning
Juliepea
Fatty steak. I had the 'wagyu' steak half was tough and the other half fat, not marbled fat but just completely fat. When I complained the waitress and manager just said that was how it should be. I lived in Japan for two years and that was not wagyu. Staff didn't care. Won't be eating there again. Shame as it has a nice setting.

Definitely NOT a 2 hat restaurant. We went for dinner last night for Valentine's Day. I had read it was the number 2 restaurant in Brisbane but I just fail to see (compared to other restaurants we've eaten at) how it achieved this rating. The wait staff were shabby in appearance. They were dressed like RSL wait staff. The food was not bad but when your paying high end prices I expect a lot more and the wine list was mediocre at best. I hate when I see a wine that I know I can buy from my local BWS on the menu not only that but at a hugely inflated price. It's just not good enough if you are going to charge like a fine dining restaurant. I mean, we were served hot chips as a side (menu was set for valentines days). For $150/head you don't serve hot chips... Ever!!! There are many other restaurants that are head and shoulders above this one. I don't mind paying well for a great dining experience, in fact I enjoy it, but Stokehouse was way... WAY off the mark. Waitstaff, food and wine more at a bistro level. Avoid spending your money at Stokehouse there are just to many options that are far better!

Just don't do it. Wine list is awesome. But for this level you would expect this.<br/>Staff, disinterested. The menu., well, it's a version of the 'beef chicken-beef chicken' turn about lack of interest that you get with mass caterers just back up the road at the convention centre. 'Cept the steak is better there... At the convention centre that is!. One decent waitress left floundering by the slovenly disinterested antics of her peers. When you are on your last course (& not lingering... Just as they bring it out) and a wad of pre packaged folded linen is dropped from a great height with a very audible sigh that could rupture eardrums onto the next table , when there are vacant tables all around, it's a pretty clear message to just pack up & piss off. Incredibly rude, & that is just ONE example. disinterested is seriously understating.<br/>Just don't do it.

Great food, okay service. We ate in the restaurant on a Monday night.<br/><br/>The food was pricey, as you might expect, but it tasted fantastic. We had 1/2 a dozen local oysters which were sweet and creamy tasting, then crab and scampi squid-ink linguine from the specials board, lamb with artichoke and a side of roasted cauliflower salad. We couldn't fault any of it with the crab being the absolute standout.<br/><br/>For desert we squeezed in the mango cremeux and the chocolate mousse. Both were beautifully presented and very tasty.<br/><br/>The service was okay but we got the distinct impression that the front of house staff didn't really want to be there on a Monday night. The specials were explained to us so quickly that we had to ask the waitress to slow down a little, the sommelier seemed to be in a rush to take our finished glasses and didn't offer us anything to go with desert and my coffee came out ten minutes before my desert instead of afterwards which I thought was a bit odd.<br/><br/>It certainly wasn't enough to spoil the experience. The food, the view and the slight breeze on a warm evening more than made up for any shortcomings.

Loved it. We (two of us) went to Stokehouse on Thursday at lunch time. We sat in the bar area overlooking the river. It was warm, not too hot, balmy and delightful. <br/>We enjoyed everything we ate - the seafood shared plate, the bocconcini, the veal with gnocchi, the anchovies and the piece de resistance, the sublime The Bombe. The service was friendly, fast and efficient.<br/>Thank you everyone at Stokehouse. Perfect way to celebrate a wedding anniversary for out-of-towners.

Wife and I went on Boxing Day (evening) and we were both really impressed with the service. We were both having a pretty flat day so almost didn't go out at all but our waitress (Justine) turned out night around with nice wine and dish advice. We love the views and the quality of our food was excellent. Staff are all dressed nicely and we're all very polite. I'm not sure about some of the previous negative reviews this place has copped because they don't reflect our experience at all. I would suggest that if your unhappy with your meal or service, just let the Maitre'd (bogan translation: headwaiter or waitress) know while you are there and give them the chance to improve your experience then and there. It has always worked for me.

Reviews here are accurate. If you want the view and only the view then go but if you want great food don't go. The reviews about the food being not up to 'fine food' standards here are all accurate.

Angel hair pasta..more like Maggi Cup a noodles. David Cameron I am not...thank God.<br/>I was at this "restaurant" today. More like a stick up joint. Sold as Angel Hair pasta and Blue swimmer crab for I think $47. Seriously how stupid do these people think we are. A few Maggi Noodles, a few peas and a teaspoon of Crab!!!<br/>What a RIP-off.<br/>It was slop in a bowl! DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!
Jumper
Relaxing Sunday. This is the place to enjoy a long lunch with a nice wine and spectacular setting.
J
Sunday Lunch. We visited for lunch on Sunday with a group of 5. We all agreed that our meals were delicious, setting perfect. Timing of service also good. If there was one critique, I'd suggest that the wait staff could have some higher level people skills more closely aligned to the restaurant.

I'm coming back!!!. With a weekend of tasting the best of Brisbane I will be returning to Brisbane very soon after being at Stokehouse on Saturday night. The restaurant was so busy which made for a great atmosphere. The manager (sorry can't remember his name but started with j) was an absolute delight. <br/>The food was outstanding. Thanks for a great night ... We will be back :-) felicity

MY SECOND EVER RESTAURANT REVIEW <br/>Sadly , the wrong Stokehouse burned down. With the Melbourne icon in process of rebuilt after a tragic fire , the Brisbane counterpart fails miserably. Possibly the most disgraceful level of food and service I have ever been subjected to. With colleagues in from Sydney we ventured to Southbank to spend a night scrambling for small talk to fill in 2 hours between sitting down and meal arriving. Yet another greedy restaurant taking a large group booking ( upstairs ) , at the expense of regular diners. The night was a disgrace. Food quality was below fast food standard , cold despite clearly being reheated , service was rude and unapologetic, kitchen staff more interested in looking at latest tattoo than preparing meals despite the anxious wait of most diners. I was embarrassed to subject guests to this excuse for a quality restaurant. View 10 , all else 0. This restaurant is clearly on it's last legs.

If you choose to have a beer garden experience then this is your place! Really unfortunate that the stokehouse brand is unable to meet expectations in terms of service. If staff knew about customer service then all would be forgiven. Not returning until this experience is a distant memory.
Alex
Bad service and dirty tables! Location is great, but thats about it.
Hlb
Not impressed.. I've been to stokehouse numerous times and the service is usually outstanding, which it should be for the price. But last visit was so average, it took so long to get a drinks list and the staffs attention, the steak was over cooked and the pasta was still hard. They were pretty busy so the food took a while which is fine because we were all catching up anyway, but the waiter that brought the last meal asked for my friends number. Super professional. I think I just expected too much.

Excellent venue, right on the river and an enjoyable walk from the Brisbane CBD. I ate here with a large group. Good menu, well prepared and presented food and excellent service.

Huge disappointment! Roasted white fish was still raw inside and pork was extremely dry and overcooked! Side dish of zucchini was amazing! But all in all- extremely overrated, overpriced and boring! will not return or recommend!

6 dishes only. We dined here on a Saturday evening, atmosphere was crowded and a little noisy. Service was good. Disappointed by lack of options on the menu, only 6 mains to choose from. No dish was an amazing standout, which was kind of what i expected from a place like this. Wine list was very comprehensive. Would be lovely on a summer's day due to location on the river. Probably won't return.
Fortheloveoffood
Nice restaurant. The restaurant's position is its best feature. The few times we've been, service has been average and the food nice but, overpriced for what you get compared to other top restaurants in the city. We would go back but it wouldn't be my first choice for a special occasion.

We had a family lunch on a stunning Sunday afternoon. The view is breathtaking and it's a joy to sit inside but have natural light and fresh air. Service is friendly and efficient. Menu offers wonderful delights using innovative, fresh locally sourced produce. Daily specials to tempt and flexibility to accommodate younger diners. When they arrive the meals look amazing.<br/>You're fed with your eyes before you take a bite. Extensive wine list to compliment. <br/>The perfect place to lunch or done for any occasion. Then as we tried to take a photo our charming host went to the void above is and took what is now my favourite family photo! Love! Thank you.

Not as good as anticipated. We had a business visitor in town and decided we would wander down to Cove for dinner. Unfortunately being a Monday night, it was closed (as were most of the restaurants along this strip) so we ended up at Stokehouse. I was quite excited as it is somewhere I had been wanting to try for a long time.<br/><br/>Firstly the setting is stunning with the most gorgeous view - but that is where it ended for us unfortunately in terms of being happy with our choice. The service was fine and the wine was okay (not great for the price, but okay) but the food was really just fairly ordinary I'm sorry to say. I started out ordering the oysters off the menu - they also had oysters on their specials board at an extra cost (quite extra) - but I was happy with the menu oysters. Well they actually weren't available (which we weren't told when handed the menus) so I ended up with the half dozen very expensive oysters. These were lovely - but had I been told at the start the menu oysters weren't available only the expensive one's, I would have ordered a different entree. Anyway we felt slightly "conned" by that.<br/><br/>Hubby ordered the stuffed squid entree and enjoyed it. We then ordered our mains - hubby had the fettucine, our guest had the risotto and I had the chicken off the specials menu. I guess mine was the best of the three and it was quite nice - but nothing wow - no wonderful flavours and I did need to add quite a bit of salt and pepper to season the dish. But it was pleasant enough. Our guest's risotto was okay he said - I think he was being polite - to me it looked rather gluggy and overcooked and he did leave a third of it behind (and he is usually a big eater). Hubby's pasta was awful - it came out very undercooked and had to be sent back. Which meant that the two of us with meals finished long before hubby had his meal back in front of him. Then it was very under-seasoned - hubby is not one for salty food, but the amount of salt he had to add to get any flavour was astounding to me and something I rarely see him do. There was no point sending it back again as by this time we were all just tired and wanted to head off. Oh the chips with chilli salt and aioli were great!<br/><br/>I am not sure how a restaurant such as Stokehouse can't get a simple pasta right - that is astonishing. And it's interesting to come here today and read the other reviews and see that many others are also very underwhelmed and disappointed in their visit here. It's such a gorgeous setting and I don't mind paying good money for good food, but good money for mediocre food is just an insult. I had so wanted this place to be as good as it should be - unfortunately we won't be back.

Disappointing. We booked a special family dinner hoping to have amazing food as we had heard great things about the restaurant and we knew that it would be expensive, but that was part of the treat for my husband's birthday. The staff and service were excellent but the food was of a low standard. The moreton bay bug entrée had a great flavour but the texture of the bug was soft and slimy therefore texturally very unpalatable. Two people had the steak, and at $48 was cooked to order, but dry. I had the fish from the daily specials and it was over cooked and inedible with most of it was left on my plate! With just one bottle of wine, we spent $350 for a family of four. We knew it was going to be expensive, but this was part of the treat. We felt ripped off and have found much better food and value at the adjoining restaurants at South Bank and these actually have a better view of the city lights from the dining room. We will not return.
Sue
Terribly disappointed. My family had a Sunday lunch at the Stokehouse with much anticipation. Regrettably no-one enjoyed their meal - entrees, mains or sides. Difficult to be precise in the criticism other than nothing really cooked well, flavours strange - even the house made bread was nothing to rave about. Very expensive outing which did not live up to its reputation. The house special desert - the bombe - was also 'so so'. I don't believe that the dish which is a take on Baked Alaska really goes down well with sorbet instead of icecream and the egg whites need to be cooked more.
Matt Donnelly
Super impressed. Visiting Brisbane, went hear as a recommendation on Sunday night. Very happy with everything. Food was outstanding, pricey but justified. The dessert special, Custard Apple Pannacotta was a ripper. Wine was nice. Service attentive but not intrusive, and the location was stunning. Would definitely go back.

Lovely Lunch. We had a lovely lunch today at Stokehouse. We were there a bit early, but seated immediately. Our waitress was friendly and had a very good understanding of the dishes we were considering. The sommelier helped us pick a great wine. The ambience was great on a sunny day.<br/><br/>I had the scallops for my entree, which were delicious, although only three scallops was a little on the small side. In contrast, my husband had the Moreton Bay bugs, which were a generous serve given how rich the dish was.<br/><br/>I had the pork special for main, and my husband had the "fish and chips". They clearly forgot our side, as we had to ask for it and it came out probably 10 minutes later, but they took that off the bill, which is really all you can expect at that point.<br/><br/>We were stuffed so didn't try any of the desserts. Great lunch for the two of us.
Fosterk79
Terrible!. Setting stunning, but ordered medium rare steak and it came out well done!!! Sent it back as did others in the group and waited 35mins for a replacement which came out the same!!!!!!! We were told others had also sent theirs back which is why there was such a delay. A friend was asked if everything was ok and when she pointed out her steak was still overdone the waiter asked her the cut her steak in the middle and then when he could see it was overdone said 'that's because it's rested'. This was unbelievable and we were very disappointed to be questioned by the waiter when clearly others were experiencing the same. A very disappointing birthday lunch for two people and their friends.

Went to Stokehouse with a group of friends on Sunday for a leisurely lunch. We were excited because we thought it had a good name and it's a gorgeous setting. Well the setting was gorgeous, there's no doubt about that. But let me tell you, these chefs have no idea how to cook eye fillet medium rare. A number of us got stark that had been medium to well done, which is not acceptable for $40 a pop. We sent it back, waited ages for our replacements, and guess what? They were still overcooked!!! Not happy Jan...

Exceptional catering for special diet needs. I can't eat gluten, dairy, red meat or too much spice (including garlic). Rarely do I find somewhere I can eat out and get a meal that is every bit as delicious and well-considered for giving me a fine dining experience as I did here. While expensive, with well trained and friendly staff, great views and ambience and delicious food (and my partner, who eats everything agreed!) we felt it was worth the cost. Would definitely go again.

Went to an engagement party at Stokehouse and had a wonderful time. All the important factors were perfect; food, service and atmosphere! Highly recommend.

Had a fabulous lunch. Staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Food was sensational and ambiance delightful

Valentines Tapas. Wife and i popped in for some Tapas on valentines day. They were very busy but we found the staff to be very attentive, smiling and great service. Food was good save for the oysters which were pretty ordinary. Great location and views.
ACM
Hugely overrated. It's an ok place, but I find it overrated. Sure the location is fabulous and you have a great view, but that still doesn't justify the prices for food that is ok, but not THAT outstanding. Recommend going elsewhere.
Elizabeth A
Raw and overcooked food. Service without a smile....They screwed my order up of waygu tortellini aswell as another one of our party, then they rushed to get it on the table and it was horribly under cooked. Raw pasta, and a "main" size was 6 pieces.... For $40! Not only did we wait while the quickly cooked our correct order but it was raw. My partner ordered pork... Was so stringy and dry, and one part was super soft, which leads me to believe it was old pieces kept out. The service was nothing special, the food was horrible. Will never return and don't recommend. Would think a $40 main would be amazing. What a shame. Book elsewhere
Acolbertaldo
Disappointed. Stokehouse needs to focus on their customer service. Our group was very disappointed with the service received making our afternoon not as special as we thought Stokehouse could provide.
Steven
Excellent. Fantastic location / river city view. Professional and friendly staff. Tasty and decent sized bar tapas.
Lex
Great entree and main with barra cooked to perfection, dessert was good not great, couple superb cocktails but a couple shockers. Lucky service was good and they remade them. Great setting and ambiance.

The Good, Bad, and Ugly. Good: <br/>Beautiful design and decor with a lovely position by the river.<br/><br/>Bad & Ugly: <br/>Sadly, my first attempt to dine here was thwarted by inept, rude service that had me and my friends running to the eatery next door instead.<br/><br/>Somehow, one of the servers couldn't wrap her head around the idea that customer service is a key aspect to repeat business. It's always better to be kind and courteous than just to do things because you have been told to do them. In our case, we were 'not allowed' to put a few tables together in the bar... even though we were expecting an elderly guest to arrive any moment. It would have been understandable if the place was packed, or if other customers needed the table, but it was just taken away and not used! There was no one else there who needed it. It really made no sense. When the manager was called in to correct the situation there was no apology or no kind words to make us feel more welcome. He barely spoke and just moved the table and chairs back for us. I think a few niceties would have made a difference, but none were offered. <br/><br/>As it was my friend's birthday, we were planning to order lots of food and numerous bottles of champagne-- a real, extravagant affair.<br/><br/>I'm sure the neighbouring restaurant we ended up dining at appreciated the $500 or so dollars worth of business we brought them. Badly played, Stokehouse!<br/><br/>I won't be returning despite the restaurant's stylistic flair or decent menu options. Any well-heeled establishment worth its salt knows that you just don't treat customers so carelessly.
Lyndal
Best cocktails, view is amazing, staff are lovely, great Sunday afternoon vibe
Belinda
Incredible view. Great ambiance. Great food. Just LAZY and somewhat snobby service with no apologies for late food and forgotten drinks. Service should be the easiest part of a business to change. Can't change the view or the building but can always change management and attention to detail.
Myf.flynn
Overrated. Over rated, over priced, under delivers and the service leaves much to be desired. Great view but the experience doesn't match the location. Give it a miss.
Bronny Hope
Pricey with average food. My special 50th birthday night out at this pricey restaurant, turned out to be quite forgettable and culminated in a severe case of indigestion.<br/><br/>For the money, I have had better and it is unlikely I will return.
The Tastebud
Breathtaking location & equally breathtaking bill...(ie obscene for what we ordered). We dine at the Melbourne Stokehouse restaurant frequently. We love it. <br/><br/>I must say, the Brisbane Stokehouse location and venue is sensational. However the food is average and most definitely overpriced. <br/><br/>My bombe dessert (apparently the house specialty) was $20, and it was average. I felt violated.<br/><br/>Drinks are obscenely expensive as well.<br/><br/>This is a restaurant to visit when someone else is paying or it can be expensed.<br/>When you have to add parking of at least $15 on top of a eye watering high bill, it would nearly be cheaper to fly to Melbourne and eat at their other venue.<br/><br/>Divine location but I wouldn't recommend it nor would we return.
Amy Lawson
Location, ambience and view are what makes Stokehouse. The service was ok, but the food was really nothing to write home about.<br/><br/>The starters were quite high in price and came with very little on the plate. The mains again were quite expensive, which is fine, if you feel like you're getting something for your money. Portion sizes were reasonable but there was just no wow factor in the flavour.
Chloe
Lovely ambiance, which is why we chose Stokehouse to have a celebratory drink this past Friday (and have done on several occasions). However, not impressed with the customer service. A staff member dropped a large glass item behind our table, causing our party to be showered in glass. A shard hit me, causing my hand to bleed. We had to stand, shake ourselves off and request another tablecloth as our was covered in glass. We received NO apology or any sort of recompense for what happened. VERY unimpressed, shall not be returning.

Can't Revisit Quick Enough!. I was oblivious that Stokehouse even existed at Southbank until I won tickets to the Sunsuper Riverfire Dream Party. Although the party consisted of canapes and drinks, the canapes were delicious - we were very impressed. The service was absolutely excellent. Towards the end of the evening, it was fun to watch the staff break out into momentary dance moves - you can tell they really enjoy working there. But one of our fondest memories (aside from the spectacular views of Riverfire of course), were the Milo, Nutella and RedSkin flavoured macaroons.....OMG! We cannot wait to go back to Stokehouse for dinner in the coming weeks.

Not recommended. Very expensive, small portions. We had long lecture about special menu, but disappointed about test of dish we had. very hot and spicy.
Brissiegirl
We only had time for mains but everyone's main were delicious. I had the salmon which was lovely, the gnocchi was also very good and so was the risotto (although it didn't look very appealing to me). Love the interior and the views are breathtaking but service a little bit slow and unattentive.

Lunch Thursday 19 September.. Location and atmosphere are beautiful. Unfortunately, our waitress was painful - interrupted our conversation several times and felt like she was trying to join in, and sounded sarcastic throughout service - last time we visited customer service was outstanding, so this experience was disappointing. The main meals were average, however side dish of potato was scrumptious. I would try again, as I am pretty sure staff member couldn't last too much longer.
Chev_327
Fantastic Food and Service. Great food. Service impeccable. Chose this venue to propose and without any notice to staff, they had two glasses of Champagne at the table once she said yes. Entrees were amazing - try the beef carpaccio and the mains were both from the specials menu and were very very tasty.
Nicole
We had heard mixed reviews about the stokehouse and so we had put off dining there until today.<br/>We thoroughly enjoyed our entree main and dessert and selection of wine. The staff have been fabulous and the the atmosphere and location unbeatable.<br/>We will be back again and again.

So disappointing!. Having heard from several friends and colleagues how good this place was I can only say it didn't live up to its hype! The staff were very friendly and polite but very disjointed and for the number of staff on duty the service was mediocre, we had to ask several times for more drinks. The food was ok but nothing that blew me away- my favourite part of the whole meal was the side orders we had, the potatoes and roasted root vegetables were fabulous shame I couldn't say the same about the main course. I would have said the Bombe was a great dessert but unfortunately I found a very large shard of "crystallised sugar" in my meringue- not a nice way to end off the meal, a very disappointing meal- one which we won't be rushing back to experience again

Great view - pity about the service. Outstanding setting and view but that's it. <br/>Went for drinks and nibbles in the bar. Service was comically bad. Asked by wait staff to get our own water glasses. Told that the water jugs were for the restaurant only and to return it to the bar. Advised that there wasn't enough cutlery to go round.<br/>That said the tapas style dishes were enjoyable. <br/>The setting might get me back.

My wife and I went for a Friday lunch and we could not fault it. The view and atmosphere was unbeatable and the staff where very welcoming and in a upbeat mood. Be prepared to pay top price.
Leroy English
Went there on the weekend with a friend who thankfully suggested it to me and I definitely wasn't disappointed. Accompanied by a beautiful view of the river we tried the crudo of seafood which was simple and elegant but delicious. Had to say the unanimous favorite was actually the beetroot side which we almost skipped on ordering. Beautiful balance and texture. The pea risotto was also a highlight for us. Incredible list of cocktails that was backed up in flavor (I think we tried about 5 of them). Only disappointment was dessert. Considering it's the 'signature' dessert, the 'bombe' was a big let down. Expected a lot more from a top 100 restaurant. It didn't however dampen our night. Had a great night and would go back in a heart beat.
Julianne
Do NOT Go. The food is rather good and the bar staff friendly but the Restaurant staff are way below par. Rude and disinterested. There are lots of places in Brisbane serving great food so courteous, efficient and friendly wait staff are the defining ingredient.<br/>I won't go back.
Daisy
Jaw workout. Compared to other 2 hat restaurants we have been before, this is lacking a little on service and attention to details. Special thanks to the chef for give a little more love to our food though. The chef over cooked my lamb and decided to start again. For the extended wait, we were served some nibbles and later an additional plate of veges. However, the meat was still a little to tough and lacked of flavour, especially my husband's pork dish. Lots of jaw work that night.

Fading star?. Returning after a break from Stokehouse, we expected the same standout service and food- but alas, Stokehouse appears it maybe has failing in the challenge that faces all high performers and that is not only to get to the top - but to stay there.<br/>What a contrast we found to previous visits!<br/>The night lost its gloss before the first dish arrived at the table with our wait staff member having packed any shred of personality away for the night to replace it with a chip-on-the shoulder. Who hires these people ?<br/>The menu read like a charm, but that previously experienced standout element that set this restaurant apart was not there for us. <br/><br/>Perhaps just a bad night- perhaps just unlucky- I think not.<br/>Some targeted work is needed !

Friday night nibbles. Stopped at Stokehouse for Friday night drinks on way home from work. Great wait staff and fabulous food

Bar Food. Just ate in the bar on a Sunday. Charcuterie sharing plate and chips were all good, Sunday session music was good too. A nice way to spend the afternoon after the busyness of the Regional Flavours Festival

No complaints here. Went to dinner there not long ago on a weekday, service and food was great. Yes, it is not cheap, but the prices are on the menus and the menus are, so if people find it so expensive I don't understand why they dine there and then complain about the prices...

I had dinner with friends at Stokehouse Brisbane on Saturday 15 June to celebrate my birthday and we had an amazing evening. We were a group of 8. Upon arrival we were promptly seated and two serves of complimentary appetisers appeared for the table while we browsed the menu. We ordered appetisers, entrees, mains, sides, dessert with coffee and tea and every course was timed perfectly, the dishes looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The service was warm and attentive without being overly so and the restaurant catered to the special diet requests of one girlfriend very graciously. Two other friends declared their espresso martinis the best they've tasted. All in all I had the loveliest birthday dinner I could've hoped for and would definitely return.

Bad service. We're South Brisbane residents and finally decided to give Stokehouse a go. Unfortunately, not one i'd recommend for the following reasons:<br/><br/>- rude - many staff members (though not all) were obnoxious and seemed to be bored at having to serve us (I will just mention that we spent almost $1500)<br/>- bad service - the restaurant was nearly empty yet we always seemed to be looking for a waitress to order our meals and drinks<br/>- sneaky - because we were a group of ten, we were locked into a $100per person meal (drinks not included). Beware big groups.<br/><br/>Improve in these areas and you could be a star Stokehouse. Food is yummy but unfortunately this is overshadowed by the negatives.

Great place, outstanding food. We were passing here at lunchtime and decided to eat here on a whim. I had heard good reports about the place and decided to try it when we were next nearby. Not having booked, we entered and asked if there was an available table. We had heard that it was quite difficult to get in, as it was often fully booked. However, the manager we spoke to was very nice and although the place was very busy, he asked us to wait at the bar to see if he could fit us in. There had been a cancellation and we were shown to a superb table at the window overlooking the river. The service was very friendly and helpful. The wine list is good, if a little top end with the prices. Our food was well presented, portioned and very tasty. Given the level of service, position, superb food and lovely wine, I considered the final bill to be very good fair.

Mixed review. I agree with the previous reviewers in that, if the prices weren't so inflated it would be great (although I suspect the overheads would be high for the prime location). Nice spot, chilled vibe, perfect for a work lunch but I was disappointed with the limited selection of main meals. It was a case of what I least didn't want to have, which was the (very good) eye fillet.<br/><br/>The great save was the dessert menu ... to die for and tasted better than it was described.
Melly
Had a fabulous dinner here. The restaurant and decor are beautiful. The spanner crab entree had some great flavors and the eye fillet was cooked perfectly. The salad with fennel complimented the steak perfectly. Service was prompt and friendly. Can't wait to return.

Horrible service! Bad experience ever!. Been there for lunch a while ago, food was ordinary compare to the price. I rang on Monday for dinner on Sat night. The booking gal was rude on the phone as I require a window view seat by replying "All our seats are window view!" <br/><br/>Arrived there 5.50 but still have to wait till 6 to be sited. It was a chilly Saturday night and we got a seat face to the back room and the kitchen! It's the worst seat ever! We complained about it and the pretentious front desk girl changed to another one which is under the fan and part of the bra. We sit down but it is too cold to stay. At 6pm there's only one table with two people there, so we told the staff is there other tables? He asked me if I was booked today? What a joke! Booked a week ago still treated like this!!!<br/><br/>Instead of dine here we decided to go somewhere else and won't never come back!!!!<br/><br/>Think about what is the customer service?? Please!!!!

Celebration Time. Went to Stokehouse to celebrate one year back in OZ. No reservations, but we were ushered straight in. An extensive wine list with quality and affordable wines from around the world. We enjoyed a Craggy Range Sav Blanc (having lived in H.B. for 10 years) The food was prepared & presented well, and delicious. We enjoyed entree, mains and desserts and whilst it put a hole in the wallet, I didn't blink an eye at the bill. If you want quality food wine and service be prepared to pay for it.
K
A bit overpriced but good food and service. The location and feel of the place is excellent, very classy without being snobby and the waitress we had was very friendly and professional, very knowledgeable about all the food and wine on the menu which is always good to see. Great wine list and good selection of dishes. I didn't order entree just had the fish for main, which I would have expected more flavour for the very high price tag. There was definitely nothing 'wrong' with it and it was perfectly cooked and decent serving size, but for the price I was expecting something more memorable / adventurous. I was more pleased with the desserts, a friend and I both shared the bombe (favourite) and the brownie both of which were beautifully presented and rich in flavour and texture.
MrPucci
Mr Pucci doesn't mind paying when it's worth it. I think the bad reviews are basically because of the price. The food and wine list are outstanding... The service is fabulous and the view sublime..... Being from Melbourne I'm used to the prices... Not really that expensive for what you get..... Love love love
KAS
Overpriced. I ate here with my partner the other week as he had a voucher he was given that was about to expire. Let me start by saying I was very pleased we werent paying for the meal. The food was good, but not great, and not worth the prices! There are better restaurants in Brisbane in a similar price bracket serving better food.<br/>I had the spanner crab salad for entree, which I could have finished in two mouthfuls. It was quite tasty but not worth the $26 they charged.<br/>My partner had the 350g sirloin for his main. He said it was a lovely steak, however there were sections he had to cut off and could not eat, leaving 4 pieces on his plate at the end. Not really what I would expect with a $48 piece of meat.<br/>I have very little desire to eat here again any time soon.

The jury's out. My dish was only so-so. It was a bit too salty - and I usually like salt. The staff were attentive and friendly and it's a beautiful restaurant. But I really can't get past the menu prices. This is Brisbane! I'm sounding like a broken record, but I don't understand why we are paying higher than London and New York prices to eat in this provincial city.

Birthday dinner. Everyone made me feel so welcome for my birthday, which was a Nice! Amazing seat at the front, overlooking the river and city.<br/><br/>Prompt service with multiple waiters at the table which I don't really like.<br/> Risotto was very tasty but very runny and I could not eat it with my fork. I managed to get this on myself. Steak was perfectly cooked with a side of greens.<br/>Wine...the wine was fine but if they offer to put the wine to the side then at least fill the glasses up when they are empty. We had to ask to get a refill of our bottle of the wine we ordered. This seems to be the new trend in Brisbane but I am not seeing any fine restaurants any good at offering this service. I rather pour it myself if I have to ask for refill...thanks.<br/>Overall everyone was pleased with their seafood dishes they ordered and we did not have dessert. Total cost with wine was $275<br/>The decor is very nice and it's was very easy to book. They also confirmed reservations which was nice via text.<br/>Overall pretty good for Brisbane!

Top 10 in Brisbane!. Dined here 2 weeks ago for Lunch on the weekend. <br/><br/>Atmosphere was lovely although sitting along the glass balustrade was sunny & hot.<br/><br/>Food Menu was creative and diverse. Waiter service was relaxed, prompt & knowledgeable.<br/><br/>Wine Menu was average. Sommelier was helpful but intimidating. Cocktails however, were impressive.<br/><br/>"Food" (Starters, Entrees, Mains & Desserts) was all stunningly presented and all flavors & textures worked mostly well together. <br/><br/>Meal portions were definitely adequate. Ordered Sides which weren't needed. <br/><br/>Overall I was very impressed by the Chef & Service. Wine menu could be better (more detailed or just more attentive Sommelier).<br/><br/>Two Chef Hats worth.

Not bad not great. Went to Stokehouse with a group of six on Saturday night. Service was fantastic. Wine [a NZ Pinot Gris] was also terrific. Round table was small but adequate for a group of six. Ambience and outlook was also terrific. So where does it fall down?? The food is OK but not what I would expect for the price tag. We had a pleasant evening but with a bill in excess of $750 we wanted to wal away saying "wow". We did not. BY the way, the herg crust on the steaks overpowers the steak. You cannot taste the meat at all. Is that cinnamon in the crust??
Carina
OMG. Snooty booking lady gave me long spiel and practically told me to go elsewhere and put the phone down on me!! Refused take my booking even though not booked out on that day.<br/>This is called "Hospitality"? I suppose because it is an industry they can do what ever they want. No wonder we are not getting tourists to visit Brisbane! <br/>If I treated my clients this way I would be out of a job. Does the management know what is happening??
Lauren Trehearn
Horrible Service. We attempted to eat at this place on the weekend 17 MAR with our children.<br/><br/>Well.... when we arrived we received the most disgusting reception. Yes we had not made a booking however not being from BNE and the place looking fairly quiet we thought we would try it. The receptionist or whoever was on the Front desk was SOOOO rude. We said "do you have any space available" Her reply "I will check with my manager", 10 minutes later US: "Did you check with your manager" HER "sorry can't find the manager. We turned straight out and decided if she has to ask the manager then maybe not the place for us. We found it not friendly. We may have visited on an off day.<br/><br/>I have to say their menu did look lovely.
Jo
Great service, disappointing food. We were expecting a whole lot better than this. The food portions were miniscule, and very expensive. The prawn gnocchi was a disappointment, it appeared to contain just the one prawn which had been chopped up and stirred through it. The octopus accompanying the Blue Eye Trevally was also chopped up. Is this really to make us think there is more, or to make it easier to eat? Either way it didn't appeal. <br/>The staff however, were fantastic and the view amazing.
Michael Always Hungry
A little blah. Been waiting for ages to get to Stokehouse but won't be racing back. Serrano Jamom entree and the pork fillet main were both, well, how do I say this.......boring. Amazing wine list and my group al l agreed deserts were great, but overall, nothing to justify the price and he hype. Staff very attentive, knowledgeable and friendly though.
Ibbie
Fabulous location, views and breeze. The food is well presented but for the price average. Barramundi with a fried sausage may have Spanish influence but the taste is unpleasant. Won't be rushing back.

Visiting from Sydney and tried a few of the Brisbane recommendations. This has been best food and service hands down. Thanks.
JayneyJo
Meh. It was our first time here, and it will be our last. The wine list is great, the view is lovely, the bread was great, the green olives as appetizer were delicious, however our mains were average. I had the fish pie (a special) which was fine but absolutely nothing special and an insultingly small dish (for $38) and my friend had the pork main, also very small, which she did not nearly finish as it was not warm enough, and she said it was bland and boring. We had been looking forward to dessert but decided not to chance it, and went instead to Max Brenner. The waitress serving us was lovely though the service before that had seemed a little disorganised. Given that a two person meal with no entrees and no desserts cost $170, I would absolutely expect something a little more special. We won't be back and I hope the restaurant uses this feedback to lift its game!

Amazing!. Food was absolutely amazing, service was amazing and the view was amazing! Can not fault it, was a fantastic meal and would go back in a heartbeat!

Totally Stoked. Came for dinner and very impressed. Have been to Stokehouse Melbourne a few times and expected a compromise but it was possibly even better. I love when you get a menu and there are so many things you want to try as opposed to struggling to find one or two things on a pretentious menu. Good wine list and wait staff well informed, although one tried to tell me that Valrhona was the best chocolate in the world - I think Callebaut, Green and Black or Lindt might disagree
Fliss
Great service, fabulous wine list, great bar menu. We could've stayed for hours! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience.

Sat night stokehouse, not that stoked. The service was very disjointed. The girl who was waiting our table was very helpful and friendly but that was the only good point. There was 4 all up and 2 were drinking rum and scotch (at the same pace) but when we ordered a new round of drinks there could be up to a 10 minute gap between receiving the first and last drink of the order, this was particularly noticeable when we first arrived and ordered our first round - is it that hard to bring the drinks at the same time? <br/>We weren't drinking anything extravagant but the prices were, $13 for a shot of johnnie walker black label is insanely expensive given you've got to purchase the mixer separately for another $3.<br/>The food was tasty, a touch on the expensive side too but forgivable given the location on the river.
Lauren
Average NYE Dinner. We had called in early Oct to book our group of six in for NYE and were promised one of the best tables as 2 of our party are regulars at Stokehouse. Sadly when we arrived for our reservation it was at the worst table right outside the kitchen doors and under bright lights and nowhere near the riverfront. We were moved to another more suitable table in the bar, but it was a disappointing start to an average meal. Our set menu included a cold pea soup with marron and fish roe which was tasty and refreshing. This was followed by a terrine although I forget what was in it, it was pleasant enough. The main was the worst course of the evening with the kobe 10+ sirloin being sinewy and a little tough to cut through. I wish I'd chosen the risotto with scallops! The cheese course offered a mild creamy brie which is pretty inoffensive and the dessert was a tarted up weis' mango bar which was delicious! I had heard so many good things about the Stokehouse and had looked forward to our NYE but sadly we were left quite disappointed. My friends who are regulars were embarrassed at the table and poor attitude from management also. I think we will not be returning.

Good food, friendly but OK service. This was our first sitting at the Stokehouse in Brisbane. The staff was very friendly, from the bar and the restaurant. We ordered a few different mains, from steak, seafood, and pasta. Everyone enjoyed their dish and would happily order it again. I think the Lobster tagliatelle was the winner. Good sized portion and not too much sauce. The steaks were cooked ok, but the sauce was that accomanied it was not that great. It was a herb and mustard, but more of a paste. The Blue Eyed Travella was excellent, and the greens that went with it were amazing... Guess truffles really do help! Dessert was excellent. The little cakes were great. Overall, a very good meal.
Halfadozenmarsbars
Great location, good food but overpriced. Had a couple of great cocktails to start. Whilst the maitre d had said on the phone they couldn't guarantee us a seat at the front, one had been reserved for us and its a fantastic spot for dinner, right on the river looking back at the city. The seafood crudo (Sashimi basically - why use these wanky descriptions!!!) was very good and the celeriac soup was delicious. The mains weren't up to the same standard - pasta undercooked and tasted store bought and the smoked eggplant overpowered the dory. Overall an enjoyable meal but for the cost, we'll go elsewhere next time and get better...

Honest unpretentious, wholesome food, skilfully executed, excellent service in a beautiful location. Will visit again, and this on the back of a disastrous outing to esquire was a welcomed relief.

Excellent. Decided to go at 9pm last saturday night. The staff were excellent in finding us a table within 20 minutes for such a busy night. The service was excellent, the lady with the short black spiky hair is a wonderful waiter and her service should be applauded. The meals were excellent and came very quickly. I had the wagyu steak special while my partner had the pork belly. Both were excellent. Just a shame I had no room for desert.
Mpomphrey
Loved it!. Had lunch there recently and could not fault the place. Sublime setting, good service and exquisite food. I thought the portion sizes were perfect. Looking forward to a return visit.

Fabulous location and atmosphere. Had a lovely time but its a very pretentious and overpriced place. Wouldn't go back.
Laura
A MASSIVE DISSAPOINTMENT! Rediculiously overpriced for what you receive. Fish and chips with a ball of lettuce $38......seriously? I think 5 different waiters came to our table- where's the consistency? Oh but the 3 minature pieces of bread are "free"- I'm pretty sure I'm paying for them. Chocolate desert was so rich I ate one mouthful and felt sick. <br/>A pretentious establishment that has everything going for it except good quality food, wine and service which is all people really want. Don't do it.
Bernie
My partner and I have now had the pleasure of eating at Stokehouse twice in a month. Both times have been amazing. The food is delicious, I had the quail entree and gnocchi for main, wish I had room for dessert... Next time. The service it was outstanding from the moment you walked in the door. Thank you Stokehouse for a great experience we will be back!
Leslie
I don't really get what people are complaining about! I'm reading mostly complaints about being expensive and serving small portions, but if you want to go somewhere with large portions and crap food then go to sizzlers or any pub instead. If you're a bit stingy why are you going to such restaurants in the first place? and bonvivant - are you really complaining about having to pay for veggies?! Go to a pub if you want all inclusive meals (actually even some pubs charge for sides too...). <br/><br/>I love stokehouse, the food is great and service has always been great when I've been in. The details in which they give on how the food is prepared when they walk over with their huge specials board is really fun for a foodie like me. I suppose if you don't care where your food comes from or how it is prepared then you would think it snobby...
BonVivant
Buyer beware! Never again!. We were ready to spend up big and have fun but staff here make it top priority to be pretentious food and wine snobs. They purposely use language designed to be exclusive (in the correct sense of the word, ie to exclude people). I don't mind how much I spend on an evening out but I resent being constantly and subtly put down by those I am paying. oh? the food? It was acceptable, but tiny serves, and pay extra for the pleasure of vegetables. I won't go back and will tell my friends not to visit. It was really just a great big wank.
Peony
Had lunch for two today, service was fantastic, we had the risotto which was amazing. Very pleasant place to get agreeably trollied looking over the river!

Evening meal. Popped in last night as we were in South Bank and hungry after a function. Nice table, rapid service to start. However menu is very expensive and I was warned my $35 John Dory dish was small, she was right. Ordering a side to bulk it up, which came so late I had to ask for it after practically finishing my meal, we waited a fair while for our meals. Thankfully the $11 carrot side was taken off bill. My fish was bland and incredibly greasy, and tiny. <br/>I'm getting a bit sick of restos charging top dollar for half a meal, when there are lot out there that do far better. Also bringing three tiny bits of bread to a table of 6 was laughable, even the waitress was embarrassed. Pull your socks up. The chips were nice though, but that's no culinary test.
Foodlover
Great bar area. Had a great Sunday afternoon here in the bar area looking out over the water. Need to get there pretty early (midday) to get one of the few bar tables and chairs but very worthwhile. Service is friendly and unpretentious, and bar food was pretty good (chips particularly good!). Nice vibe.

Sublime - best dining experience in decades. I've never been moved to write a restaurant review, but our experience this afternoon at Stokehouse Brisbane deserves to be shared.<br/>It was a solemn occasion to mark the first anniversary of my husband's death - three generations of family were present. <br/>All of us were hopeful of turning the occasion into a celebration, rather than a cry-fest, but we were each in our own way nervous of our ability to make it a happy outcome.<br/>Enter Anthony - our "waitperson"<br/>His demeanour, knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism surpassed anything I have ever encountered in a fine dining establishment (and I'm no spring chicken!)<br/>We were in accomplished and friendly hands for the duration of our meal.<br/>And what a splendid repast it was.<br/>We had faultless meals over several courses, and Anthony's respectful and discerning presence added a great deal to a memorable afternoon.<br/>Stokehouse Brisbane provided superb views of the river, a menu with flourish, extraordinary cuisine....and Anthony.<br/>We will always be grateful for a memorable dining experience.
Kate Tranter
Great spot for some afternoon drinks to watch the sun set over the city. Can't comment on the food.

A Marvelous Day Out. We were sent to Stokehouse by our daughter, who had insisted we attend in an offpeak dining time. We were booked for Sunday lunch. The weather was kind and the setting was beautiful, and we were seated on the deck by the river with only a dozen others in the restuarant. We waited on by an attentive young lady, who helped us through the menu and specials. I ended up with the fish, and my husband chose the duck. I don't much care for demonstrations of frivolous culinary skill, only good food cooked simply. Both dishes were simply divine, and even though we opted for wines on the cheaper side to go with our meals the matches were quite compatible. My only qualm was that we did not stay for dessert!
Hawthorne Resident
An Expensive Mistake. I booked this restaurant based on online reviews as somewhere special for my husband's fortieth birthday. Called a couple of weeks in advance, explained the occasion and was told that they would reserve us a great table, etc etc. <br/>On arrival we had quite simply the worst table in the place, right next to the kitchen, with no view. I was all for leaving, given their previous discussions with me, but my husband wanted to just stay, and it was his birthday so we did. I made loud protestations to the restaurant but their attitude was simply that no table is guaranteed and although I had arranged a special dinner with them for my husband's fortieth it was tough luck that we got such an awful table.<br/>The food was very pricey, and what's more it wasn't great at all. I've eaten all over the world and I have no problem with paying for decent food, but this simply wasn't. I ordered steak- something that any half reasonable chef should be able to get right and instead of it coming medium rare as requested it came well done and tough. My husband's fish was what he described as "very ordinary" which for the price is certainly shouldn't have been. <br/>In general, of all the new restaurants at southbank this one has the worst views. The angle on the river is such that you really can't see the city which means at night there is nothing to see.. If you get stuck in the outside deck bit at the end they pull down blinds to keep the warmth in, so you literally can't see the river, despite sitting next to it. There are much, much better options on this run of restaurants- Jetty for instance, where the food is half the price and twice as good. Brisbane has lots and lots of fabulous restaurants. Sadly, this isn't one of them.
Mkennedyyaz
Great place to splurge. It's definitely pricey -- we paid $550 for four, though that included three excellent bottles recommended by the sommelier. But if you're going to splurge, this is a great place to do it. The food is memorable, which is really what you're looking for, and there was plenty of it. The risotto special was one of the best things I've ever tasted. The duck breast was absolutely superb, as were the oysters and the desserts. The setting is fantastic. The service was impeccable without being the least bit pretentious. If Stokehouse Brisbane always runs like this I can't imagine they'd ever have a negative review.
Keilleigh
Not a fan at all. We ordered from the bar menu, the Olives in Lemon and Garlic - they were plain overipe olives in Olive oil with no additional flavours. We couldn't even finish them, they were terrible. We also ordered "Hand cut chips with Aoili" - they came out as soggy french fries that tasted like they had been defrosted and cooked in a microwave. Appalling. The last dish was the deep fried goats cheese with radicchio and pecans - three little balls of goats cheese lost amongst the salad leaves. For just under $ 30 for these three "tapas" style dishes the food was overpriced and quite horrible tasting to be honest. After going to Granada the night before for dinner, this place does not even compare. It's a shame because the location is wonderful.
Edc
I have never eaten in a worse restaurant positioned in this market segment. The service was abysmal, the meals were overcooked (culminating a a dead dry steak) and the wines were confused. Don't waste your money
Jamie Kerr
The single worst fancy restaurant it has been my misfortune to attend. The experience started with not being able to fit my party in (after booking 3 weeks in advance), commenced with a steak that was given the option of medium or medium rare and finished with the wrong glass of wine being poured. Awful in all respects
Geoffrey Miles
Over priced and very ordinary. They did not tell us that our group when we booked that we would have a set menu at $90 a head. And nothing on the menu was particularly appealing. Could not choose how the steak was cooked. Go elsewhere, have a better meal, and pay less.
Lucy
Had a pleasant lunch.. Food was great, service was fantastic.. Only thing was entre plate was a little dusty .. Perhaps from cloth. Unsure, no one is perfect. Would I go back again.. Yes
Mark Schramm
Pricey but good. I find it hard to see how one could criticise this place too much - is it just because it makes you sound cool to diss on the new kid on the block? it might not be the absolute best restaurant in Brisbane but all courses by 6 of us over a long lunch were met with cries of "yum" - oh, and best bloody mary's I've had for years
Tezz From Brizzy
Over rated. Not for Brisbanites, to toddy for a lunchtime meal at south bank. Staff wanted to sit us in the sun, don't they know we have the highest skin cancer rate in the world.........the place was empty why?

Where else would i rather be?. Hey guys at Stokehouse. Thanks for a great function the other week on your Bar deck. Had the most wonderful evening with all my buddies to celebrate my birthday. 30 of us all had a great time sitting right on top of the river. Great food, lots of it, delish cocktails and even a DJ playing on the day. The service we recieved was great, from organising the event (sorry, ive forgotten your name) to the guys on the bar on the day. Everything was seemless. Lots of fun to be had. Cant wait to go back to Stokehouse for Dinner. <br/><br/>If youre planning a casual function THIS IS THE PLACE.

Extremely expensive minimum spend!!!. Beautiful location, great architecture; average customer service and abysmal wedding packages!<br/><br/>The greeting we got when having a look at it as a potential wedding reception venue was fairly gruff, and then we are told a couple of days later over the phone that the minimum spend is $30,000!!!!!!! Which in itself does not make sense seeing as the seating capacity is 140 people (which we were going to completely fill), totals for a 3 course meal is around $100, and the maximum 4 hour drinks package came to around $7000. So total of all of that is around $21,000, and even adding something like $2000 for service (some caterers charge this over and above meal costs) and venue hire of $3000 (GoMA is around this figure) and this is still only $26,000!<br/><br/>In other words if you want to have a wedding reception there AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE! It would appear that they are either being extremely snobby or they really don't want wedding receptions there.<br/><br/>We've subsequently booked Watt at the Powerhouse, which in our opinion and from numerous other glowing recommendations is better. They take 160 people and total cost for meals and drinks package will be almost half Stokehouse's minimum spend. Your loss Stokehouse - you could have had a guaranteed $20,000 takings for a Friday evening.

Great location but overpriced for average quality food

What a shame..... As a regular and great fan of Stokehouse in Melbourne I was excited to be going to the new Brisbane restaurant for my birthday. The location is beautiful and Abby on the front desk an absolute delight.<br/><br/>We started with with our waitress having a good knowledge of the menu and specials. Our entrees were great - I had the Scallop soup with delicate scallop tartar in the bowl and my husband the Quail Saltimbocca and both were delicious. Unfortunately this is where the good review stops.<br/><br/>Both mains, the crab risotto for me and the Duck for my husband came out looking beautifully presented. Unfortunately the duck was cold and flavourless as were the accompaniments - everything was way over salted. The risotto was cooked beautifully but all I could taste was salt - for $38 I'm expecting a sensational risotto with balanced seasoning.<br/><br/>We didn't stay for desert, just wanted to get home and wash the salt out. Won't be going back.

I was very dubious as I had read manh bad posts however we had an awesome night. The food was a good size, amazing quality, the service was great. We booked for 4 and turned up with 6 and it was not a problem at all.I am definitely going back!
Janet
Great main and nibbles, my banana desert was a disappointment, the caramel was grainy, and flavour combinations not quite right. Fabulous attentive, knowledgeable waitress. Brilliant riverfront views. Highly recommend for special events.

Gnocchi Bad but Dessert Great. Went for lunch on a sunny weekend and the view was amazing. However the gnocchi main only had 5/6 pieces and a watery broth, have felt more satisfied after eating an entree! It was pretty to look at with the flowers but not very filling. Would not order that again. However the chocolate souffle with salted caramel sauce was to die for! I would go back just to have this amazing dessert.

Really enjoyed taste of food, position was fantastic, service was great. Unfortunately main meal (pasta) was so small. I left hungry. When I asked waiter if meal was entree or main, he said main and asked if i would like to view the menu and order another main meal. ( I am not big eater and weigh 55kg!!! )

Excellent - great spot for a nice meal. Ate there two nights in a row. The first night was in the bar section sitting out admiring the river. Price for the wagu pop burger is a bit rich - it's good, but to charge $16 for something so little is simply hilarious. That said, the bar food was very tasty & fresh. The following night a group of us had 3 courses in the main dining area. The food was sensational, the scallop soup was great and the chocolate pudding for dessert is a MUST HAVE for any choco-holics!<br/>Floor staff were great, the maitre'd was very accommodating & extremely professional.

Overpriced. We went for a birthday/anniversary with friends, food was good but not great and way over priced for what we ordered. One glass of Chardonnay $17.00! Wait staff were trying hard to be silver service but we were forgotten a few times. Would I go back???? Probably not!

Not worth the hype. We went on a casual Sunday night dinner, the service was agonisingly slow, the food was expensive, one or two dishes were good, but for the price you pay compared to the fine dining around Brisbane, Stokehouse was wayyyy too exy and quantities were too small. The best was the salted caramel souffle.<br/><br/>Won't be going back again unless it was a free feed. There's no shortage of better fine dining restaurants in Brissie.

Fantastic. I can't believe some of the reviews on here. I've been twice and the food was AMAZING each time. First time I went for dinner, three courses (dessert was shared) with no sides was just enough. I would recommend that you order a side with your main, but it's not necessary. I had the scallop entree and the steak main which were both perfect. Absolutely faultless. The second time I went for lunch. I had the Burramundi with a side of salad and fries to share. Again, perfect. View was beautiful. Wine list fantastic. Service was good.<br/><br/>However, be prepared to spend app $100pp. Most of the negative comments seem to stem from the portion size/price ratio. Don't go if you simply can't understand that it's not that type of restaurant. I will definitely be visiting again. The food was very fresh, quality and cooked beautifully.

Good but not mindblowing. Big expectations and then a little let down, seemed expensive and is a special night/date kinda place.<br/>Food is good although service was a little pretentious

A Pleasant Evening. Went and ate at Stokehouse last night and enjoyed the experience.<br/><br/>The venue has great views and is about as open as a venue could possibly be without being alfresco dining. Given that it was such an awesome night to be out I really enjoyed myself, however it'll be interesting to see what the place would be like in the throws of a Brisbane summer with the flies and mosquitoes about. Or when its hissing down rain.<br/><br/>Dinner was a petite sandcrab salad followed by a perfectly cooked piece of barramundi, washed down by a glass of massane viognier. Both dishes were very tasty but small given the price they charge. The rich and decadent sandcrab salad dissappeared way too quickly and I was thankful the waitress convinced me to order a side with the barramundi and its sparce oferings of asparagus, pine mushrooms, chestnuts and parsnip puree.<br/><br/>Dessert was spectacular. A frozen bomme with layers of lightly torched meringue, white chocolate parfait and strawberry sorbet covers in fresh strawberries. A truly amazing dish and washed down with a glass of late harvest. The coffee was excellent.<br/><br/>All in all a great night. The only thing that keeps from making this place a haunt of mine - and I've noticed a similar trend in the reviews for this place by my fellow Urban Spooners - is the insane amounts they charge for the small portions they provide. I don't normally expect to pay over $40 for a piece of barramundi. Not when I've served the same skin on piece of fresh barramundi with larger garnish servings at $22 - $27 and still made a profit.

Was nite expecting much given the reviews on here but I was pleasantly surprised. The view and atmosphere was great and the food was delicious and well presented - very small serving size but lovely. Service was great.

Quality; Tuesday 3 April 12. Great view, good service, but found the food disappointing. Menu reads well but actual food outcome was more worthy of a meal half the price. Sorry, but we won't be back in a rush.<br/>Wines are very expensive.

Great expectations. Our group of 5 had great expectations for our night out to celebrate a birthday ... we had made a booking and were told we had to be seated by 6pm .. so arrived early and were informed the restaurant doesnt open til 6pm so we ordered some drinks from the bar and sat and enjoyed the view and relaxing atmosphere .. beautiful view. <br/>For our meal we were seated by the kitchen door which was not the best position as half the table were facing towards the river and rest were facing the dishwashing kitchen area. After looking at the menu and the wait staff assistance describing menu items we ordered. Seeing the price of these items we expected "a little more" than we received. Not just quantity size .. but flavour wise. The meals were quite small (the main meal gnocchi dish had 6 pieces of gnocchi the size of almonds with a watery tasting broth poured over the top?) Sides were definately a necessity. <br/>On the positive side the breaded olives were really tastey and the desserts we ordered (bombe and souffle) were delicisious and definately the highlight of the night. <br/>The service was good, the staff were very attentive with filling water glasses, taking orders and delivering them to the table. <br/>In all ... we left disappointed ... did not live up to the rave we had read and heard about.

Brawl at the Bar. The Stokehouse Brisbane has been the worst dining experience I have had in Brisbane. The Bar Staff were slow and unorganised leaving customers standing frustrated.<br/>When booking for Dinner we were advised to be there promptly at 6pm. We originally wanted a booking at 7:30 and were advised they could only seat us at 6pm. At 7:30pm the place was half full.<br/>We arrived promptly at 6pm and were advised someone would escort us to our table. We waited another 30 minutes and then we approached staff to be seated. <br/>The service was terrible. The waitress had no clue at all about wine or the menu. <br/>The food was over salted, dry and observed the chef opening canned food in the kitchen.<br/>Then we got the BILL. OMG it was such a rip off. It was bad fish and chip quality at Opera House prices.<br/>These people should be ashamed. <br/>If you looking for a good dining experience steer clear of the Stokehouse in Brisbane. <br/>I think the owners have watched too many cooking shows. They were so desperate with mediocre food trying to tart it up with pathetic streaks and swirls.<br/><br/>You could not drag me back ever!!!

Impressive. Had a pre birthday treat here & it was absolutely suburb! I was beyond happy with the venue, view, staff & a above all the food! It was absolutely delicious! Stand out dishes were the scallop soup, ahmazzzzzzzing! And the squid ink linguini with sand crab. Breaded olives with 3 cheese is a delicious naught little bar snack. Also had the beef cappacio, barramundi, and oysters... All average. Good but not great. But for the million dollar view & romantic setting, this restaurant is really a gem in Brisbane. Good food & great wine, perfect place to fine dine. <br/><br/>* bill was $270 for two people including a bottle of wine

Excellent fine dinning. Another fine chapter on the brisbane scene

Fantastic. Highy recommended restaurant, for dinner view , service and food way above par. Could not fault anything. The lamb dish was to die for"......looked small on the plate but way more than enough without feeling like a bloated fish after dining.<br/>Bar snacks and a drink during the afternoon just what Brisbane needs. Good selection of cocktails. Highly recommend for taking visitors to enjoy a drink and the scenery.

Finally a riverside resturant!. Despite Brisbane being the "River City" this seems to be the only venue with tables right on the river (ignore the mangroves).<br/><br/>I found the negative reviews below surprising because my experience yesterday was great. The food was delicious albiet a little expensive but full of flavour and satisying with some sides. The wine was also perfect and the atmosphere on a sunday is relaxed despite the place being fully booked.<br/><br/>The service was friendly, attentive and accommodating when we showed up without a booking.<br/><br/>I will definitely return to Stokehouse for many more special occassions.

Great lunch spot. Finally Brisbane has a river-side restaurant that delivers great food, professional service and beautiful surrounds. A shame a Melbourne based group had to deliver it, but hey, small complaint.<br/><br/>This is a super spot for lunch, we had two entrees each followed by dessert [for lunch] and are just now tucking into some biccies and cheese for supper as we're still pretty full. I think the whingers may be Sizzler-goers. <br/><br/>The food was plated beautifully, and tasted as good as it looked. The candied pecan, cauliflower, currant bar snack is awesome and original. <br/><br/>The service was friendly, knowledgeable and professional, everything you expect but rarely get from Brisbane's small list of 'fine diners'. <br/><br/>Yes it's expensive, for most of us it's a special occasion spot, and for a special occasion I think 3 courses + wines for $120pp is no bad deal. If you think that's too much for beautiful food, views and service maybe you should stick to Sizzler.

Not enough food. We were horrendously disappointed with the Stokehouse - not the location, service or view which were all fantastic but the food portions were miniscule. One only at our table was not starving when we left and before anyone starts saying that the experience is NOT just about the food, surely as a diner paying about $125 each for the meal and wine (and that was with one appetizer and one main each only) we are entitled to feel somewhat replete ....we actually went home and had a meal. The food was delicious however and yes, the olives are divine. Just abit more food would be awesome, please!!
Leanne M
Very good. Quail special amazing. Lamb loin good. Chocolate souffle delicious. Husbands bombe mmm. Service good very friendly just slow with the wine. 3 courses was just nice. Felt very satisfied.
Mel
Mel. A group of us ate at Stokehouse last wed evening. It is wonderful to find superb architecture, great views, excellent service & terrific food on the river in Brisbane. I can thoroughly recommend the entree of Scallop Soup, a real delight. We have already booked to go back in a few weeks!

Is Brisbane full of little piggies??. Well after reading all these review and dining at Stokehouse I cannot help but wonder if diners in Brisbane like to stuff themselves silly when they eat out?? I personally like to enjoy the flavours of each dish, relax with a few glasses of wine and leave feeling satisfied not stuffed to the gills. Seriously if you need "Maccas" after eating 3 courses anywhere you are a PIGGLET!!!!
Lee.
It was such a letdown. Very poor service, tiny servings that tasted average. Absolutely overrated, never going back.

Terrible Service... Firstly, the food was amazing.. Even though you have to order a few sides to get a good-sized meal (which then makes the bill all that more scary to look at!) <br/><br/>We've been to many 'fine' restaurants both in Brisbane and interstate and I really can't give Stokehouse a good review - I'm sorry.. (we have friends who work there - this is nothing personal!)<br/><br/>The service was terrible.. We sat at our table at 7. We ordered some drinks and sat.. and waited... about 20 minutes for our menus to arrive... <br/><br/>We then ordered our meals... and waited.. and waited... an HOUR for meals. <br/><br/>As I said, the food was great, the sides were necessary and expensive, and the wine was great. The desserts were incredible!! <br/><br/>Our bill was around the $600 mark (entrees, mains, desserts, drinks and a special dessert for the birthday boy). For this kind of money I just would have expected better service... We walked in at 7, and we left at 10:30. It was a long night of waiting.. <br/><br/>Hot tip: Don't get a table in front of the kitchen - 2 people get a lovely view of the river, while 2 watch sweaty chefs and wait staff under fluorescent lighting.. Not very ambient!

Awesome !!!. We recently dined at Stokehouse for my birthday and couldn't fault it. The meals were divine, the service excellent and the location to die for. If you are going there to get a large 'good value' meal then don't bother - you will be disappointed. If you are going to experience beautiful food, in portions that allow you to comfortably enjoy 3 courses, in a setting that Brisbane has been crying out for - then go forth and enjoy!
Kazza
Completely Disappointed! Hair in an Entree, wine had to be 'put on ice to chill' before it could be served, wait staff very pretentious, $57 steak had sinew throughout, meal sizes left everyone hungry, over an hour between entree and mains, we continuously had to flag down one of the many wait staff - one even took my cutlery as another placed my meal!! Fellow diner said we are ready to order - waiter said ok and promptly walked off - never to be seen at our table again!!!! Will be using word of mouth to save many friends from bothering!!

It's fantastic that new restaurants are opening in Brisbane in prime locations. Stokehouse is a recent addition to the list. We checked out this new spot last night for a birthday dinner. Customer service will always be memorable. Unfortunately, there were many holes in our service last night. I don't understand why it is so hard to take orders from the table in the bar area. This avoids queues at the bar, customers will order more food and drink and it will show the skill of the waiter in multitasking and product knowledge instead of getting the attention of someone, asking for a menu and walking off. Outstanding table service is a rarity and when you find it being executed well you will go back again and again because the experience is memorable. We were asked twice in the space of twenty minutes who we were and what time our booking was by someone in plain clothes. We had to carry our own drinks to the table having asked to be seated ourselves while waitstaff pretended to look busy around the bar area. The timing of the food being delivered was perfect. The food was average with my fillet of beef being served medium rare instead of rare. No real wow factor in the food. Serving sizes were average but the quality didn't match the price. The specials were presented on a board to us and explained. Ok, fair enough. The staff walk around acting busy with no leadership or direction from anyone overseeing the floor. This is another establishment coming out guns blazing... I like this about restaurants here in Brisbane... It shows serious character and guts in a competitive market...the foundation and attention to detail in customer service is still lacking and I wish this new restaurant every sucess in finding the right mix.

Some bogans do not get it. Ok.<br/><br/>Great view<br/><br/>great food... if you want to eat more go to the Broco's prob more your style<br/><br/>Service was excellent for us. <br/><br/>Drinks great.<br/><br/>K. Rudd seemed happy when we ate. (There may have been a knife or two protruding from someones back...) However he was happy.<br/><br/>Drinks great.<br/><br/>Location Location Location.<br/><br/>Two many locals cane great restaurants because of the size of the meal.... Give me a break fatties.<br/><br/>Have fun. we did. If you did not go to Sizzler roughies.

Extremely disappointed in Stokehouse. With all the hype from the Melbourne store, i already expected to be underwhelmed. But the food we had was below expectations. The oysters were bland (how does one do that!?) and had none of that lucious creaminess you get from a freshly shucked one. The kingfish entree was probaby the worse dish. Couldnt take the kingfish, jst had a mouthful of grapefruit. I even gave it a chance and had the fish alone and it was bland. The crayfish tortellini on the otherhand was far too salty and pasta was undercooked. Sauce albiet was amaZing! Best part of our meal. The swordfish was dry and overcooked. What can i say, we had many dishes to give it a fair chance and it did not deliver at all.

Memorable night. View and food lovely but what stood out was the service. I brought my 8 week old baby having no idea how he would be received and the staff could not have been more accommodating - so much so they took the baby and nursed him, pushed him in his pram til he slept while I ate dinner and enjoyed my first night out in over 2 months. The staff were professional, genuine and relaxed. Keep up the great work!

A TOTAL RIP OFF. Our expectations were high for our first visit to the Stokehouse restaurant.after hearing from a few friends how good the place was. The views were amazing and the service was excellent until the restaurant started to fill up which made it necessary for us to call the waiter over to get service. The portions are very small for the price. Our SMALL oysters were not served cold. YUK! Our chips were soggy and had to be sent back. The markup on the wine prices was ridiculous. We all left hungry and had to go to elsewhere for some extra food. The Stokehouse wont be seeing any of us again. P.S. The friends who recommended the place now say they were taken there as a client and did not have to pay the bill. No wonder they enjoyed it.

Give it a chance. After reading some of these reviews I felt the need to say something. Being a customer and a waiter in general, I believe some people need to chill out. I read that the meals were too small - they are small in size yes, because fine dining is meant to be more than just a main course. You go to these sorts of places to have more than one course - and you do not order entree sizes of mains if you are looking to go home full. This is the sort of place where you can go and have some flavoursome dishes. The kingfish is something I would call incredibly flavoursome and for those that claim its bland are obviously lying or have zero taste buds. Wine mark ups are similar to any other place I have dined at. As for service, it is well known in the hospitality industry that if you are polite to waitstaff they will provide you with the same attention as anyone else, however if you are going to act sullen they will take this on board and give you the bare minimum of service. Do not treat waitstaff as the dirt on your shoe and then you may receive good service. The storehouse is frequently filled with over 100 people for lunch and dinner separately therefore the meals, service, pricing cannot be bad for the majority of brisbane people. Give the place a chance and make your own decision

I dined with my husband here last week, excited as I love the Melbourne one. My experience could have been good but was below average . Beautiful view of the river but sand flies are a bit off putting. I had a beer accidentally split on me before our food arrived. Which I gracefully accepted that accidents happen but the waiter seemed to stay away from us with embarrassment I think. An hour had passed and had to ask where our appetizers were . They had problems with their computer and the kitchen didn't have the order. The entrees flowed quickly after the appetizers . We watched as the table of 10 that arrived after us got their main and we had to ask again where our mains were. The dessert was the highlight . Souffle is awesome!!!After telling us there would be no charge on our food and just pay for the drinks . We went to pay and when my husband questioned about the dessert on the bill. The manager said were they late too. Our experience would have been completely different even with all the debacle had the manager/staff been a little more attentive and appolgetic of the situation. But all round food was good and drinks range are great.

Nice location, but.... ...a shame about just about everything else. As the St Kilda Stokehouse has been a local favourite for some years, on a recent visit to Brisbane over the Xmas-NY period we had a table for two booked by Amex as we were struggling to find anything else open for a birthday.<br/><br/>The good bits: the food was solid, and reasonable, although unspectacular. <br/><br/>The poor bits: service was shocking. Disinterested staff who did not know how to manage multiple tables. Requesting simple things (the menu, the bill) took 10--15 minutes. The prices are REALLY, REALLY expensive for what you get - 35-40% more than Melbourne prices for similar dishes. (I know the location is fantastic, but the following night, almost everything about Aria, another "franchised" interstate restaurant by the water, put the Stokehouse Brisbane to shame.)<br/><br/>The wine markup was also quite striking - a $200 bottle of champagne at another Brisbane top-tier restaurant was $300 here. <br/><br/>Brisbane is known for its sky-high prices for not exactly sky-high food, and for average service, but this was really very disappointing. The great shame is that it makes me less likely to want to visit the original Stokehouse, just down the road from me, because of the experience.

Awesome, except for the portion sizes. All our meals were lovely but very small. Unfortunately for the price, the fabulous view does not make up for leaving feeling hungry.
Jason Bradley
Amazing, GO!. WTF Brisbane what's wrong with you? Rating Stokehouse at 69%?! Stokehouse is on par with every decent restaurant I've been to in Australia. Spanakopita was excellent. Frozen bomb parfait was perfect. Wine was great. Service was brilliant. View was amazing!
Helen
Fabulous positiion - insufficient food. Our group of 7 ladies throughly enjoyed our evening & the view was stunning. Our meal was beautiful but unbelievably small. We all had main course, dessert & wine & we all left hungry & went elsewhere for coffee and something more to eat. The service was very average but to be fair the staff were pleasant.

Left hungry after a big bill. Had lunch at Stokehouse- was looking forward to it after the rave reviews. Great position on the river. Waiter had limited knowledge of the wines- pronounced Sancerre incorrectly- no biggie but at $85 per bottle maybe could have had the pronounciation down pat. Three courses and left hungry. Started with the chips and aoili while everyone decided on their choices- chips were greasy and soggy- one guest commented that the fries were better at Maccas. The scallop entree was tiny and was swimming in a sea of broth. The tortelloni main was also tiny- thank God I didn't order the entree size for main. The raddiccio salad was just leaves with virtually no dressing with some sort of potato type deep fried balls- very disappointing. Dessert was also disappointing- there was a function on that night so there was no time to order the souffle- we were given no "last orders" warning by the staff so made do with the cheesecake and white chocolate parfait- very average. No time for coffee. A bill of almost $200 a head. Never going back. Go to Aria or Esquire instead

The Tighthouse. I'll start with something positive - the setting is divine. BUT, after two courses we walked away HUNGRY. Is this the tightest restaurant in Brisbane? For the price, we expected our mains to be main meal size, not degustration menu size. We won't go back. Shame, as I was hoping to make it a regular. Love the building, love the location, but we went home to EAT after spending clsoe to $200 on food. The food we did get was lovely, but like Oliver I wanted to go to the kitchen and ask for "more please".

We were on a waitlist for a Friday night & were happy to have a drink in the bar for a table. The bar offers a great casual vibe & the classic mojittos were a good attempt. Luckily a table become available & we were surprised that the far end of the restaurant area was empty anyway at 7pm but did fill with a couple more tables through the night. Olives were the pick of the night. Baramundi rec as the dish of the night was good, nothing stood out about it at $38 though. The squid ink pasta, duck, John Dory were all rated similarly by the group. Lamb not rated by diner 5 due to portion size & it was too chewy. Sides of beens & riddachio were ok. There were a few hiccups through out service which were rectified straight away & for a busy night the meals arrived on perfect time. I would rec a visit to enjoy the location.... the Brisbane river, the breeze off the river, the city lights at night....ahhh. The menu & our dishes were not outstanding but not bad either & compare equally with other Brisbane restaurants in this price scale.
Tastebudtastic
Romantic and top views. Lovely outlook over the river. The breaded olives, raddicchio and fried feta salad and The Bombe dessert were delicious. waitstaff were unobtrusive and mostly knowledgeable of the wines and produce. The food is not cutting edge but it is not trying to be either, I'd consider it upmarket bistro style fare.

Wonderful addition to Brisbane dining!. I need to make the observation that the team at STOKEHOUSE has clearly worked very hard in the week since the review dated 12 November which I read at booking time. It certainly lessened my expectation of the visit, however, fortunately it was difficult to relate to that review in the light of what we experienced just a week later. So congratulations! The wonderful setting is a given, however, senior staff admitted to me that they had had issues with inexperienced staff in the first week or two, however, have addressed this. Our experience certainly reflected this..we could not have faulted the service and the food was what we would have expected from a 'Stokehouse'. Had no issue with the layout of the restaurant...we certainly were on the window, however, all tables had the same quality views across the river to the city and they were not cramped at all. Staff were extremely accommodating and certainly will attract us back in spite of being from the Gold Coast.

This restaurant has the best position in Brisbane! Waterfront at southbank. I really like the design and position and will go back for that. Food was good, nothing life changing but solid.

I have been hearing lots of noise about this new Restuarant and their Chef Tony Kelly. Well my wife & I were glad we checked it out. The lamb was to die for and the iconic 'bomb' dessert was something you've got to try. Watch out for this Restuarant in the future and their head chef I would think. Have to go and talk the boss into having our Xmas party their now.

ONE OF THE BEST!!. The wait is finally over, my fav Melbourne restaurant has arrived to Bris-Vegas and it's a knock out!!<br/>The king fish crudo was first class and the chocolate souffle was with out doubt the best I have ever had.<br/>I cant wait to come back!!

We visited the restaurant last weekend and it was a pleasant experience. The ambience was nice. Although the service could be speedier. We had beef carpaccio which we thought probably one ingredient too many on the plate. Tortellini was a bit on the bland side but not bad. Simple food but good quality ingredients. Although, a friend had spanakopita and mentioned that it was disgusting. The highlight of our night had to be poached banana dessert which was to die for. Also choc souffle with salted caramel sauce was delicious. It was a proper souffle we had been longing for. And we would buy a whole heap of that sauce if it comes in bottle!! All in all, good dinner destination if you don't mind poor service.

Delish!. Had my first of what i think will be many meals at the new Stokehouse. Have done the St Kilda 'branch' and Brisbane now should be very excited wtih the South Bank offering.<br/><br/>Had yum Crayfish tortelloni complete with big chunky pieces of cray. Delish lamb and pea puree main and great choc souffle with salted caramel to pour . Good prices too - high 30's mains. Given the fit out this is reasonable. Some staff a little green but clearly backed up by a crew that know waht they are doing. Will get better in no time.<br/><br/>Cant wait to go back!<br/><br/>Welcome to Brisbane!

Value is in the view and nothing else. Highly anticipated, terribly disappointing.<br/>Fabulous bar, awful restaurant layout. I was elbowed in the back a dozen times. Too many staff with no idea what to do. Our waitress could hardly speak English and admitted up front she was "no good with wines". She forgot our first wine order and we had to ask two waiters before it came out. Apparently two sommeliers but only saw one when he poured our wine but never once offered help in selecting. Food.... Boring boring boring, bland and dumpling like tortellini. Flavorless kingfish. Marron...overpriced and underserved. Desserts were woeful. Completely runny and undercooked souffle and premade bombe. Very disappointing from start to finish ,the worst bit? $800 bill. Not worth even half that. Learn from our mistake. Have a drink there and for gods sake eat somewhere else!!

This is our where to eat and drink guide to Brisbane; incomplete and personally biased for the sort of food we like and what we consider to be ‘value for money’. We have decided to divide our restaurant preferences into occasions rather than areas. We find that generally, where you go depends as much on the reason as the suburb. You have favourite places for family dinner, for Sunday afternoon drinks and Wednesday morning breakfasts and you are happy to travel to get to them. If you want a complete guide for where to eat in Brisbane by price or suburb, visit Urbanspoon . You can read our Urbanspoon reviews as well. We hope you enjoy our recommendations as much as we do. Good anytime Foxy Bean, Wooloongabba – can’t say a bad thing about this place seeing as it was Birgit’s wedding venue, but it is good for any meal of the day. Kettle and Tin, Paddington – popular from brunch through to Tuesday trivia and birthday parties, it’s hard to go wrong at Kettle and Tin. Hoo Ha Bar, South Brisba

Located in the River Quay precinct of Southbank, the bar area is very Queensland – wooden decking, afternoon breezes and a perfect view of the River and cityscape. On a warm afternoon we had glasses of crisp white wine alongside a few items off the bar menu – chips with chilli salt and aioli, breaded Spanish olives and a delicious charcuterie plate. The pate was rich and creamy and it was hard to share the duck liver parfait. The restaurant takes on a lovely dark mood when the sun sets. I’d recommend extending your afternoon drinks into dinner. The Stokehouse floor staff are indeed swift, knowledgeable and know exactly what they are doing...With an emphasis on elegant, contemporary Mediterranean cuisine, Stokehouse draw their inspiration from local and Australian produce...Stokehouse ’s stylish, yet casual approach, offered a relaxed ambience that was nothing short of impressive. Please, do yourselves a favour and treat yourself to a long lunch and enjoy the peace of the river and sample the freshest tastes of the season yourself.

So Stokehouse was a friend’s suggestion. And it was a good evening. Stokehouse is the closest you can get to the river on Southbank and not be eating wet food. It’s also the last restaurant before the Goodwill Bridge. We were hoping for 180 degree river views, but the weather had other ideas. There was a heater but it went off, on again, then off and stayed off. We weren’t sure why, but we moved to a table a little further inside.

The sweet bug meat was offset by the slightly bitter-sweet flavour of the shellfish butter. It was a generous serve too, with a heap of bug meat and a literal pool of shellfish butter. The braised leeks and the fazzoletti (flat pasta) were good secondary accompaniments for the bug flesh and the pasta helped soak up that delicious sauce.
FoodMeUpScotty
The Rangers Valley rump cap with smoked bone marrow custard, ale braised onion shell, potato crisp with mushroom salt, trompette mushroom and tarragon oil was again pushing as one of my favourites. The rump cap had been slow cooked over four hours and looked beautifully rare on the plate and as a consequence was extremely tender.
FoodMeUpScotty
My selection of wild mushroom risotto with French black truffle, fine herbs and parmigiano reggiano was indeed special. The risotto looked spectacular on the plate, with each and every grain of rice visible. More astounding was the amount of fresh black truffle covered all over the plate and at $1800 dollars a pound, quite a generous helping! My first mouthful of risotto was delicious, but there was a worrying saltiness in that first bite. I need not have worried as the risotto balanced out beautifully the more I ate.

Originally from the Old English ‘stoc’ meaning ‘place’, stoke could be used to describe either a religious place, or a secondary settlement! Overall it was a very enjoyable meal in a pleasant setting. I highly recommend Stokehouse for a relaxing and scenic lunch especially on one of Brisbane's many sunny days...

All the dishes we ordered were pretty fantastic. It's hard to pick a 'favourite' but i guess what really stood out to me was most definitely the Chilli Salt Chips, Crudo and the Quail. The Chilli Salt chips is pretty much a meal itself. There was just so much! It's a very generous serving for a 'side' dish - if you're afraid that you're going to still be hungry after having the mains, i would suggest ordering this!

If you've already spent too much of your pay cheque this month (undoubtedly on buying rounds of shots last Friday night), then never fear - you can opt for a more casual affair at Stoke Bar. There is a wide deck with great river views where I intend to spend my Sunday afternoon indulging in an Italian Blood signature cocktail with a share plate of intriguing taste plates.

Stokehouse is the perfect place to part with your piggy pennies to enjoy a long lunch on a Sunday for ‘Stoked on Sundays’. You can rub hams with all of Brisbane’s prettiest pigs, listen to the DJ on the decks and bask in each others beauty.

The food that we had at the Stokehouse was without a doubt visually, works of art with the stark plates being blank canvases for the team of chefs lead under the direction of award-winning Head Chef, Richard Ousby allowing them to showcase their creativity and wonderful skills using the freshest seasonal produce available.

The barramundi was overcooked, this dish felt like it needed just a bit of zing, maybe a sauce or chutney could've cut the fat. Nevertheless if you're looking to dine healthy... look no further!
Brisbane Devoured
Tortellini of confit duck, spring peas, beans and legumes with a chicken and tarragon consomme was my entree from the specials board, and served to be a fantastic start to the meal. The consomme was quite heavily seasoned, but flavoursome and a perfect match to the duck within the little parcels and the goodness of the legumes underneath.

...every year we complain about the heat, spending our weekends in whatever venues are air-conditioned, and trying desperately to find cool breezes....I’m going to make it really simple for you: just go to Stokehouse . It’s smack bang on the river and its open-air bar and restaurant just  beg  for cool river breezes. You’re doing the wind an injustice if you don’t go to Stokehouse and enjoy it! There’s other stuff to love there, too – like some of the best oysters I’ve ever had ($3.50 each):   I continued the seafood theme with Moreton Bay bugs, braised leeks, spinach, whole-egg fazzoletti, and shellfish butter ($30 for an entree):   I don’t know what shellfish butter is but I need a bottle of it in my cupboard at all times, right next to the mustard. SO good.

Modernity and stuffiness on the river. . . Like all venues that are a destination in and of themselves, there are some issues. For a room so light and breezy, the staff are remarkably serious and detached. There are of course no missed steps and all wants are anticipated, it just feels mechanical and scripted. Stokehouse is set to become the home of the long lunch. You need to check it out.
I Ate My Way Through
I had never been to the original Stokehouse in Melbourne but research led me to Stokehouse in Brisbane. Offered the best seat in the house, our table overlooked the river but was well shielded from wind and sun. On a tight timeframe to get back to the jeweller before they closed, we opted to skip appetisers and jump straight into the entrees.
