Review That Thai - Brisbane

Nutsjourney (Nut SIRI)
I had a beautiful dinner at Farmrak Signature Ascot and I have never expect how tasty of vegetables are like this before. I can say their ingredients are super fresh and delicious. I can feel or crunchy and juicy from their vegetables dish. The staff are so lovely and I have chat with the chef owner who told us the story about his farm and how he would like his customer has experience with the best and fresh products from his farm. Don't miss out their dessert as well.

First time I have tried and will definitely be back. Such beautiful fresh vegetables. The pickled veg starter was so delicious and the staff were all very nice.

We had an absolutely beautiful meal here, and the staff were magnificent. We didn’t have much time before our flight departed - but had been recommended and it was close to the airport. We called up with our order to start cooking whilst on our way. Within 10min we arrived, and our food was brought out almost immediately and was DIVINE. Great portions, super fresh veggies and leftovers for tomorrow! Thank you again, we will absolutely be back next time we’re in Brisbane.

Popped in for a late brunch. My son opted for the som tum with fried chicken. Very tasty, seasoned crispy chicken pieces with super fresh crunchy papaya with garden picked birds eye chillies on hand if you want it spicier. I had a beautiful soy cappuccino and flaky pastry chicken curry puff for $10. Lovely service. Took home some noodles as well. Highly recommended - I'm going back for more - the wine and beverage list looked interesting.

It was really awesome back when they were known as 'That Thai'. Now, prices are very steep and menu choices are very limited. I know they claim this new style as more 'organic' food, but their previous offerings were fresh and tasty enough for me without the high price. I've since moved to ordering from other Thai restaurants.

Had a fabulous experience with both with food and the lovely staff! Got takeaway and it came out fast. It was delicious and also was still hot when I got back to my hotel. They also catered to my allergies. I will definitely be coming back.

10/10 would recommend. On the pricier side but well worth it. Great service and exceptional food! Their paddock to plate movement and the values they stand for are exemplary. The lemon and finger lime panna cotta was the highlight! Will be back!

What a wonderful evening! The food and service were outstanding. The perfect date night. Highly recommend the black forest dessert!

Been here on many occasions and it’s great. Service is good, food is always delicious, they’re licenced and it’s usually packed. I’m a fan of the pad Thai and the spicy noodles. Always lots of fresh veg and flavour.

Got the prawn pad Thai, sweet and sour pork, bowl of rice and golden cups. Everything was great! Nice interior and exterior and staff were nice enough. Overall cost was about $50 something.

Just moved into the area. This appears to be the only Thai restaurant around. Wow , it was fantastic. Excellent quality meat and very good sauce.

Great service too.

Will definitely be going back.

That Thai is that good- excellent in fact: $12 lunch and $7.50 for a mug of Singha beer from the tap (and chilled as you'd want it). Being a regular bistro diner - daily in fact - I'm always on the lookout for value places in a nice environment with excellent service and food, and That Thai gets full marks. Located in an attractive white weatherboard building with a nice balcony overlooking Racecourse Road in Ascot near the race track, one feels happy just to sit down and enjoy the street with its lovely trees. Sunday was my second visit for lunch in three days and this time I had the cashew and chicken with chilli and rice lunchtime special. There are bigger meals to be enjoyed, but for lunch the special (of which there are several) does me just fine. Service was friendly and efficient and I'll be back, perhaps for dinner next time. Lovely food.

Really good Thai food, fast and quality service. We enjoyed the mixed entree, chicken with cashews and Massaman Curry. Of course we ordered the coconut rice... The food was so tasty. We'd happily return.

Smiling and happy staff as always. Nothing spectacular about the food, just good honest dishes, freshly prepared and tasty.
A good selection of the usuals and a few such as lamb dishes a little more experimental but nevertheless good.
Generous serves and reasonably priced. Better than most locally for quality.

We travel to Ascot from the East side, on a regular basis to sample the delicious goodies these guys consistently serve up! We ordered the Cashew Nut stir fry and the Pad Siew. Fresh. Full of veges. Reasonable serving size with great service. It's a winner. :)

The last time I reunited with Thai food was around a month ago - Considering I don't have Thai food often, I thought it'd be nice to rediscover those flavours again, especially when I have a dining companion joining me :)

Table reserved for 2 people at 7:30pm - majority of the seatings inside were full. The alfresco area seemed relaxing, with the heater on and the natural breeze it was the perfect environment.

The menu offered a vast selection of soups, curries, rice and noodle dishes, seafood and the list just went on. We decided on the Banana Leaf Chicken, Thai Lamb and a bowl of White rice to share.

Food came to the table reasonably quick - The Thai Lamb was delightful, meat was soft and each piece I had was filled with flavour (salad was really fresh too). The chicken was slightly on the drier side, but to compensate that, the side sauce made it quite enjoyable (I liked the lemongrass taste it had).

My dining companion and I both preferred the Thai Lamb over the Banana Leaf Chicken. Service was quick, nice experience accompanied by friendly staff :)

Thank you That Thai!

Average. Based on the three dishes we ordered. Grilled Squid- Wasn't fresh, was paper thin and when eaten with the served cucumber slices the taste was lost due to how thick the cucumber was cut. Thai Duckling- Duck was overcooked and there was nil pink to be seen anywhere. Sauce was good, however the salad was just some iceberg lettuce, radish and onion. Hot beef- best dish we ordered. Good flavour and heat. Not one staff member asked us how the meal was/is. Beers are overpriced. $7.5 for a Singah on tap. There are much better thai restaurants in the vicinity.
David
Great food with really friendly staff. Fast and great for takeaway. With great prices I would go there any day. Fave dish would have to be the spicy lamb and curry puff.

We were looking on Zomato for dinner suggestions around Hamilton/Ascot area and saw this place. It has a nice ambience with its decoration and colours. We ordered the duck under Specialty section and Garlic Prawns and they were delicious. The duck skin was crunchy and the prawns were awesome. The dishes with rice for 2 are just nice for our tummy without leaving the place hungry or overeating. The price matches the quality of the meal. Highly recommended this place to anyone looking for a good meal.

I have often come here for lunch and my go to favourite is the pad Thai. They do it so well. The noodles themselves are so tender and soft and the whole dish is full or flavour.
They offer a good lunch special and I would say their other dishes would come to the party well.

Go to that Thai and order the right things and you will not be disappointed. We have tried out the entire menu over the many years we've been going since it's opened and have finally narrowed down our order and we cannot recommend more: curry puffs, angels wings, golden cups, chicken satay and golden bags as entrees. Mains: banana leaf chicken, prawn superb, pad see ew, pra raa lom song (I'm sure that's not how you spell it but it's a peanut sauce dish). The Thai salads are fantastic also. We are not a fan of their currys however. If your dining in, order a coconut drink, delicious sweet coconut juice with coconut piece in it. Great atmosphere, service is always good but sometimes there is a language barrier. Parking is pretty good too, they've got spaces underneath or you could park in the parking spot for day time businesses I suppose if your going for dinner. Very reasonably priced too (on par with every other thai place we've ordered from price wise and it's more for your money in terms of flavour that's for sure). Great place to come with a few friends. Fabulous
Hayley
Dined here with a table of 4. Baby spring rolls - so cute with a very thick sauce. Lemon fish (delicious), massaman curry (good) and lab Gai (nice). Service was friendly and quick. Would done here again.

Ambience: average, nothing special
Service: not bad, nothing special although they made an effort to accommodate our big group
Food: again, it is not bad, but I have definitely had better Thai food
Location: cool Racecourse road, convenient and trendy
Tash
Everything about this place from the amazing decor to the authenticity of the food was just perfect. A lot of reviews said 'try the spicy lamb', we did, man we were glad we did. Everything was so flavoursome and delicious and the food was so aesthetically attractive being vibrant and bright. The service was always so friendly and helpful. Definitely our new go to Thai spot !

Thai lamb is a most! Please make sure you order this and give your tastebuds a chance to dance.
All curries are very authentic and golden bags are a great starter.

A great relaxed feel at That Thai. The food arrived really quickly and was tasty! Lots to offer on the menu and the staff were friendly. Can't wait to go back.
AnitaOnChi
Delicious authentic Thai on racecourse road. We come here often for takeaway and it is just as good. However in saying this.. it is not as price competitive as some of the cheaper Thai restaurants. It is a little bit pricier for what you would get.

We had a terrible experience last night - wasn't just that - the food was awful. 1. Did not have our reservation written in the book, 2. wrong entree served and still had to pay for the right one when it turned up with mains, 3. the one that did arrive was like something I would serve my dog - beef gravy????, 4. the floor wobbling under my chair was starting to make me dizzy with the constant stomping of the waitresses going past our table, 5. All up was $90! For two people - I could cook better thai or get something more authentic and flavours at the local shopping centre eatery. Can't believe there were so many people there and this place has been operating for so long. We will never go back there and sadly I think any complaints to any of the staff would have fallen on deaf ears. 6. No ambiance either.
Jenny
Very Tasty Food. Out to dinner with a group of friends. We decided on the Set Menu C as we didn't have to think of what to choose from a very extensive menu. We were not disappointed. Everything was delicious. Very fresh, flavours were divine, meat so tender and lots of food on the plates. For $38 each it was very reasonable. BYO wine. Staff friendly and attentive. We throughly enjoyed our night out sitting on the balcony eating very good food. You won't be disappointed.

Delicious! Fabulous food and excellent service. We had a wonderful dining experience.

Had takeaway and it was terrible. We have never had take away from That Thai before. In the past we have eaten in, which has always been lovely. However tonight we decided to order takeaway and it was one of the worst meal that we have eaten, dry - nothing tasted good. So dissapointing, to the point that we decided to post this, which we have never done before.

Great Thai food. We ordered 5 dishes and every one of them were fabulous. Good portions. Great flavours. Excellent service and really reasonable prices. Will definitely be back.

All tastes. I never liked Thai until That Thai. My husband can be dripping wet eating hotter than hot while I have extremely mild. That Thai gets it right every time.

Amazing. We live on the Sunshine Coast but whenever we are in Brisbane we always have dinner here. Love everything about this restaurant but especially the food and talk about it for days after. Thankyou all at That Thai..

Went here for lunch. Had the chicken Pad Sew Iw & chicken stir fry with basil with coconut rice. Everything was tasty, fresh & meat was tender. Food came out really fast. Service was friendly!

My friends and I loved this restaurant. We ordered 4 mains to share and the dishes were amazing. The first dish we orders was the veg and mushroom soup was to die for the other dishes we ordered the chicken and cashew was great recommendation to all the second dish was pad Thai with prawn and the thired dish was a curry dish. The meal was totally worth it. Atmospher was great allowed for chatter and mingling with friends. Please do try it.

I have favourite dishes- (pra ram long song & angel chicken wing) but always best to share family style and mix the flavours.

No bad!. We ate here last Saturday night prior to going to a concert at Boondall.

The décor is simple but pleasant, though I think it the decorations could be improved upon and the lighting could be a little dimmer, but then we seemed to be seated at the most brightly lit table in the restaurant.

Staff friendly and efficient, and the place looked clean, which is always a big plus.

We had the vegetarian spring rolls, pad tod (tempura vegetables), Prawns Supreme (prawns with sweet chilli sauce and crisp fried basil leaves) and green curry vegetables.

There were four spring rolls. Very small and thin, with mainly cabbage as a filling. Not a lot of it, and to me it could have done with more seasoning. The variety and amount of vegetables in the second entrée was good with, IMO, the capsicum being the best. Very tasty, and the carrot was quite nice, too. The others were just okay. I thought everything was kind of on the bland side, though my partner enjoyed his.

The mains very quite nice. Lovely prawns and sauce, and nice crisp basil. Green curry was pretty good. I actually ordered the red curry, and didn't realise until later we'd been given the wrong one. The steamed rice was nice enough; not gluggy or clumped.

I think my partner enjoyed the meal more than I, though he found it very hot. For me the heat level was just right.

I haven't given That Thai a thumbs up or a thumbs down. I didn't love it, nor did I dislike it. The place was busy and many of the diners appeared to be regulars. Maybe I'm just going off Thai.
Anchick
Tasted nice no complaints on quality but servings aren't your typical Asian and its quite costly, guess that's due to the area. Would recommend if you're in the area with a large wallet.
Timmy K
Old faithful. Always get a good meal here. As a local i have tried many other thai places in brisbane. This is by far the best {unless you want really cheap low quality thai}. I find the bad reviews on here hard to believe. The service is fine and what you would expect for meals less than $20. Go with good company and you won't even notice the service.
Jodi
I ordered a beef and garlic salad... There was so much garlic in it I don't think I'm gonna get a cold for the next 6 months... The service was really slow and not professional... Really disappointed tonight... They forgot a few of my friends meals...I don't think I'll be back here in a hurry... There's a lot of better Thai restaurants around...

This place should rank alot higher, amazing food and its always busy which says something.

Chicken cashew nut stir fry is insanely good.
MBA Food
Disappointed. Ate here a week ago on a recommendation from a local. (i am from melb) Upon arriving i knew instantly this restaurant was catering for locals in the area. There is no authenticity about this restaurant. I don't even think they sell Thai beer from memory. Two things hit me one after the other. The prices are extremely high. ($23.00 for a curry) And the servings are extremely small. The service was OK. Took us quite some time to get our bill. We all agreed that the food was enjoyable, but we all left still feeling quite hungry.
You Know
Service was dreadful. Finally got a seat and then waited for orders to be taken. One entre arrived and the second one 20 mins later. Had to ask about mains as 50 mins after the 2nd entre no show. Food OK ??? absolutely not true this food VERY bland. Would NEVER return or recommend to others. Much better ones available in Brisbane
Rowan
Mostly very good. Underground parking is tight. Always enjoy the lemongrass salad and Prawns Superb. service is patchy at times. You can tell when the regular chef has a night off, as things are not always consistent.

Disappointed. I've been to That Thai a few months back and had an enjoyable time with food and friends. Last week I went and ordered a Mussaman curry which, though good, was not as authentic or as tasty as I recalled from before. The food has definitely worsened and I don't think I'd go back again as there are so many more Thai restaurants that better it in Brisbane.
Eat-outer
Not my favourite cup of tea. That Thai is an example of successful Thai restaurant serving Westernised Thai food. There is nothing authentic about the food they are serving and it is not necessary a bad thing. The restaurant has been there for years and is owned by the ex-coowner of Rosalie's Thai Terrace restaurant.

However, I prefer authentic Thai flavour, well-balanced but in-your-face, which this place couldn't deliver. Service was good but tend to lose it when they get busy. Overall, pretty forgettable.
Glomeshgirl
Some of the best thai food i have eaten in Brisbane. We never go during busy peak times as the service does suffer. Aim to go early evening or during the week.
David Hanlin
Awesome value and great tasting dishes here. Always suggest trying new places and foods! I will return here as it is awesome, a clear love of mine

Pushed out of restaurant!. Ate here on a Saturday night with friends visiting from Sydney and did't have the best experience.

We had an 8.30pm booking and around 10pm/10.15pm the waitress came and put the bill on our table even though we had not asked for it.
I said that we were not finished and wanted to order coffees, at which point we were told they were closed and couldn't give us coffees.

We still had food and wine to finish so we stayed to do that even though the vacumed the restaurant whilst we were there and stacked all tables and chairs so that all that was left was our table.

The food was great but I found the whole experience unacceptable, very uncomfortable and embarrassing.

If it was a weekday night - maybe I could understand - but 10.30pm on a Saturday??

Fresh and Tasty. That Thai has been on my rotation of regular take away joints for a while now.
Food is always fresh and flavourful with my personal favouite Lab Pla, crispy battered fish served with a salad of fresh herbs, shredded carrot, lemongrass, onion, citrus & fish sauce dressing, finished off with roasted rice.
Will keep returning for this dish..
BL
Mixed feelings. Food 9/10
service 4/10
price 5/10
good food but for Thai overpriced
won't be back when i know plenty of other great thai places with better service and prices
If service had been great like the food the price would not have been an issue

Not all it was cracked up to be.... We had heard and read great reviews about That Thai and so when an opportunity presented itself for us to have a rare night out together, we couldn't wait to go.

It was such a let down.

It was quite busy on the day we were there, although there were empty tables there seemed to be only two wait staff. We stood at the door for a few minutes basically being ignored and when someone eventually came to seat us they just waived vaguely off to the space behind the check-out and let us find our own way there.

We ordered the mixed entree and asked if this would be enough for two of us to share and were told that it was. When it arrived it was tiny. Barely enough for one let alone two.

There was no water on the table and nor was any ever brought despite asking for it. But the Singha beers were quick enough to arrive, but without glasses or being poured. Just uncapped and dumped on the table.

The meals were okay but not that spectacular and the "duck" was definately not duck. It was shredded beef.

Service was slow, sloppy and sullen and I think every restaurant on Racecourse Road would have to be closed before we'd ever eat there again.
Marcus Foth
Stood at the door being ignored by 4 staff walking past empty handed. Finally seated, nobody interested in taking our order. Meals come out separately, one quite delayed. That Thai Spicy Salad was gross: warmed up lettuce in lemon juice soggy chicken mince. Place is overrated on urbanspoon.
Tony
Best curry puffs ever!

Just what Thai Food should be. My wife and I just adore That Thai. Over the years we have had many trips to Thailand and the food at That Thai is the closest we have found in Brisbane to what we have had in Thailand. It is fresh and clean and the servings just right with all the subtle aromatic spices you expect in Thai Food.
The decor of the restaurant is absolutely stunning with a water feature at the entrance and salmon pink walls and just the odd Thai decoration on the walls. If you ere going you should book to avoid being disappointed as the restaurant has a big following even on Monday nights.
Because Thai food is great food to share we often have 4 to 6 friends join us or occasionally just the two of us. The wine list is superb and a good selection of Australian and Asian beers. The waitresses are all dressed in traditional dress as are the owners who are always on deck and your friendly hosts. We think this is the best Thai in Brisbane although we haven't tried them all. Well worth the drive over.

Order from the house specials. They are delicious.

Slipping. I have eaten at That Thai twice before and was extremely happy with the food and service. On my third recent visit however, the food was pretty average and the service a bit sullen. Perhaps owners (and chef) has changed? Or hopefully a temporary lapse.
Louise W
The mixed entree is great. This place is always packed and prices are good too.
Alex
Great flavours, fresh ingredients. Service was a bit slow (fair enough for a Saturday night) but nice and the food came quickly. Highly recommend it!
Greg Powell
Fresh ingredients, full flavoured, plenty of house specials that actually ARE special. The Bannana Leaf Chicken (just as an example) is superb. Go hungry and order the fabulous Entrees to go with your mains. In fact - just go. Prices are also relatively cheap considering the high standard of food. Limited parking underneath. Book early!!
