Review Willow & Spoon - Brisbane

Wow 👌 That was the best breakfast I have had in my whole life. 57 years. The bacon đŸ„“ was thick & juicy. Never ever had it that way before. I loved it. The relish was perfect. A delightful little Cafe. Full of activity & a great atmosphere.

Wow what a great way to end the year. Having a brilliant breakfast, you need to be hungry as the meals are large. Great service, staff very friendly Covid checking in done with professional proficiency Only downfall was the walkway would be difficult for someone with a disability but I’m sure staff would help Toilets clean Dog friendly Would love to come again

We love Willow and Spoon. Thick cut bacon is a speciality here as is service with a smile. Do yourself a favour and ask for a seat out the back and enjoy a delicious smoothie and something off the specials board. You won't be disappointed.
Stephanie Keir
Amazing lunch as always! Great relaxed vibe, fun team and delicious food. We'll be back

Everything you want from a modern cafe. I’m so glad I came here. I’ve just spent the morning here doing some work while my car was getting serviced down the road. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is delicious and very generous. The coffee is great. The atmosphere and the space is pleasant and comfortable. I’ll definitely be coming back again soon. Thanks Willow and Spoon.

Eaten here a lot and it's unbeatable in the breakfast game. There's something for everyone on the menu, the specials are different every time I've come here and are equally as delicious. Choosing an item is so hard as everything is so yum, takes a solid few minutes of um-ing and ah-ing, but the menu is the perfect size. The Willow is it's OG menu item and everything is so perfect on that plate, complimentary flavours and devastatingly delicious, it's the go to when I'm in a choice paralysis. Coffees are amazing, option to have it in the biggest coffee mug ever. The chai and the teas are wonderful too. Staff are beautiful humans and Keith is a gem of a person. Love coming here and get excited everytime.

I'm incredibly disappointed... In myself, for living 10 minutes up the road for two years and not dropping in yet. My partner and I were treated to prompt, friendly and efficient service as soon as we set foot in the door. We opted for the outdoor seated area and really don't think there should be another option. Such a homely and welcoming atmosphere, much needed after a big weekend as fellow hospo workers! Coffee was too notch and packed a needed punch. The food is gorgeous, creative and just sits right in the belly. The Big Daddy is a big boy indeed and the "Avo Our Way" was amazing and really let the freshness of their produce shine. Highly recommend sharing the truffle toast amongst your table. Top notch work from FoH and the kitchen, we'll be back đŸ€™đŸœđŸ€™đŸœ Thanks for the muffins!

First time visiting and vegan. Had the pumpkin two ways, wow, seriously one of the best vegan dishes I have ever had, the flavours! Compliments to the chef, outstanding. Cannot wait to try the vegan dish on the upcoming new menu.

Amazing service!!!!!!!! The food was to die for, the servings were huge and the service was out of this world. Travelled from the Sunshine Coast and would travel up here again just for breakfast. Highly recommend.

Absolute gem of a spot, delicious and interesting breakfast menu and best of all the staff are super accommodating, letting us bring our dog along for brunch!

Friendly staff. The food melted in my mouth. One of the best coffees that I have had in a long time. Will be going back plus telling friends about it

The food and coffee is delicious, they have a great kids area and Staff are really wonderful. Our fave brunch location.
Janet Benson
Absolutely beautiful brunch. The menu is well thought out and extremely tasty. This is a must do as a dog welcoming cafe.
Dan Hustwayte
Maybe the best breakfast in Brisbane. If you want something more exciting than eggs benny or smashed av this is the place.
Mark Priestley
What a delightful place full of surprises and super efficient, happy staff. Was there for a private function and will be back with our riding group to have a Saturday breakfast out back.
Margaret Zordan
Really enjoyed my meal and I thought the service was great too. I would definitely recommend this place

Always exceptional food & great service. An excellent local place run by people that consistently get it right.

Absolutely loved visiting here today! <br/>Atmosphere was great. All staff were warm, friendly and welcoming. Despite arriving at Saturday at about 11am we only had to wait probably 1 min for a table which I thought was very quick. I loved the set up. We sat out the back which was I guess a very spacious patio set up overlooking very cute little lawn. The food was great. I would have loved a bit more of a range, especially for GF options and perhaps some little games kids could play on the lawn, but apart from that it was perfect! Thanks for your amazing service. Would highly recommend the ‘Strawberries and Cream’ thickshake!

Amazing cafe with Melbourne-grade food and coffee, great menu and friendly service. Also perfect place to go with kids thanks to the play area in easy visual range. Making Wilston a great suburb!

It's been quite some time since my last visit to Willow & Spoon. They have actually relocated but the quality of the coffee remains the same. As also the service is always welcoming & consistent

Tasty food and lovely staff.

Wow! From the moment of walking in, staff were so helpful and attentive. I got The Willow and the pork belly was absolutely massive! Cooked to perfection, and scrambled eggs were delicious. My friend got the sausage dish (pitches as Super Sexy Sausage on Toast) and it was equally delicious. All round great experience

After returning from a previous visit and enjoyed our meal today we were disappointed with the food served and the cost of it. Expect to pay price in Melbourne not in Brisbane. And I asked for bacon and tomato in one meal got them served onto separate plates as a side what’s that about?
Laura Waterman
cute, friendly, tasty, welcoming. presentation was pretty boring and didnt look too good byt they made up for it in the taste. Will be back probably

Tried the new menu today. Had the cassoulett for breakfast. Blown away. Amazing textures and a great start to the day. <br/>Nailed this one chef! <br/>Cheers <br/>Ned <br/>

Quaint little cafe with amazing service. The service staff were quick to refill our waters, came frequently to check on how we found our meals and were really friendly. I ordered the willow, which was delicious, however, it was on the pricier side of brunch food. Nevertheless, is be happy to return for a cup of coffee or two.

Had a very nice lunch here on Saturday with a friend, the staff are friendly and service is reasonable. The food is interesting and presented very nicely.
Dee
Gorgeous place to catch up with friends for a relaxed Saturday lunch! Good coffee. A friend and I shared the Spanish chorizo and Southern Fried Chicken and both dishes were very cleverly put together, had beautiful flavours and were generous sizes. The staff were also very friendly and more than happy to help. Looking forward to coming back!

So we were meant to have breakfast at home this Sunday morning, but we hadn’t done our groceries yet due to a busy Saturday so decided to go out (yay :P). We picked Willow and Spoon on a whim, after seeing it recently on Instagram. Location, ambience & service. This cafe is located in a lovely Queenslander, with seating inside and an outdoor deck (plus a garden area)! There is plenty of space for large families and dogs are welcome on the deck too. Keith greeted us with a very friendly vibe, and made us feel very welcome, particularly with his meal recommendations (both of which we ended up picking). It was a little chilly in the shade on the outdoor deck, but there were gas heaters and blankets available.
Theo Walcott
Accommodating staff, always pulling you tables and chairs together when you arrive unannounced - sorry!!! <br/><br/>Good coffee and a lovely deck out the back! Worth a visit.
HowStar
Really good menu. Large back courtyard so really relaxed. I like the Willow and add the truffle hollandaise really great. The coffee is good. The staff are really nice all upbeat and very helpful. Food sometimes a little slow but all good because it’s a really nice place to relax and catchup.
David Greene
Exciting and delicious menu with big portion size. Great coffee and really friendly staff. The menu has been updated and has heaps of options

We finally visited this cafe after reading all the good and tempting reviews on Zomato and Google. <br/>Yes, we agree. It’s a must go cafe. We had forest mushrooms vegetarian dish which came in a decent portion. It was very well presented, creative and very tasty. Apparently it’s been recently added to the menu. Good job chefs.<br/>The coffee was alright. I didn’t like the texture. It was a bit runny. <br/>Staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely visit the cafe again.

We went pass yesterday and had coffee and a brownie , love the coffee there, and good customer service, we will try their breakfast next time<br/>

It was the second attempt to have brekkie at this place early this month (the first time that I missed it because I was too early for its opening). The temptation to make me doing that because my curiosity of how they serve a bowl of vegetarian ramen on their menu. Needless to say, I was the first customer of the day and service was great and friendly. I had my flat white while I was waiting for the ramen. Coffee was specifically made of Supreme coffee bean which was good in taste. In addition to the barista's sophisticated pouring technique, surely, the coffee won my appreciation. After then, the ramen was on the table, which did not seem to give me any surprising. However, while I had the first sip of the broth, my disappointment was all out of the window. This soup base was carefully prepared with lots of mushroom so there was very strong taste of them. I appreciated that the chef put the roasted eggplants and sliced shiitake mushrooms as the main ingredients, in addition to the bean sprouts that made the refreshing effect. Noodle itself could not be criticised under the lens of Japanese ramen, for a Western café and chef, it definitely was a good job. Love to see a Western chef taking the advantage of fusion Asian element in his menu. Thumb-up.

The best breakky I have had in such a long time! Everything was great here - service, food, quality, pricing and setting. I ordered the smokey pork belly with truffled eggs and it was delicious - full of flavour, perfectly cooked without watering them down, good truffle flavour, even the toast was nicely done. My friend's bacon and eggs were also great and I love they put top notch butter on it. All of the ingredients were clearly of great quality and good so nicely. <br/><br/>Staff were really attentive and even brought me sriracha without asking as the waitress thought it would go well together. They helped me choose a juice and were so friendly. The outdoor setting was cute, comfortable and spacious. The only weak point (and this was really nitpicking) was the cutlery being kept in paper cups on the table and the tiny table for two being so crowded with things that I felt like it would topple and crash at any second. Otherwise it was all a great experience and I am very keen to return! Loved everything and the prices were good for such excellent service and high quality. A great gem.
Chrystin
Loved their signature dish (truffle egg and pork belly) with side of chip. The pork belly was tender soft and truffled eggs smell and tasted delicious. Loved the crispy beer batter chip with aioli.
Kelly Embelton
Brunch was amazing. I had 'The Willow' with truffle scrambled eggs and pork belly. The pork belly just melted away in my mouth while the eggs and sautéed leak were divine. Tea was tea leaves not some cheap tea bag. Cafe itself has both cosy corners for 2 and long tables for larger groups.

Great food, coffee and service. Seating out the back in shade for summer, blankets and plenty of heaters for winter. Kids play area that satisfies the kids and doesn't annoy the childless with sound etc
Paul Phillips
The southern fried chicken exceeded my expectations for lunch on my first visit here. Awesome smoothy of the day too. I'll definitely be back if passing through the area for work again (when visiting from Sydney) - I could even justify going out of my way to get here for a good feed 😊<br/>Excellent service too and a great atmosphere.
Lauren Stolz
I love willow and spoon. Great atmosphere and food. Coffee is amazing! It's a great location to host events! Keith is a legend, shout out to his daughter Poppy! <br/>-Lauren and Dustin :)
Claire
This a cafe destination for the adventurous foodie. For breakfast and brunch items, there are few safe items on the menu. Coffee is strong and delicious and their music choices are great. I ordered the ham steak and was a bit disappointed with the quality and flavour of the ham, the side of beans were delicious though. My boyfriend had "The Willow" and loved it.

For ever such a long time, Willow and Spoon has been really cherished and a popular place for the locals to go to. It has had a couple of locations, going from something kind of funky and beatnick to a little like a whistle-stop cafe right in the middle of suburbia. A cafe would not close and then reopen elsewhere if it sucked, which is why Willow and Spoon is in a brand new area and is getting just as much thoroughfare as before. It wholly deserves it. <br/><br/>They know customer service here. The waitstaff here are pretty friendly, and approach pretty much you as you enter the door. All the needed aspects of service are done to the right rhythm - that is knowing when to approach the table to take orders and that - plus the small things such as getting the water are present. No matter what time it is when they are open, it is keeping busy and still manages that fairly low-key atmosphere. It is all efficient, and is one of Brisbane's highlights in disguise of your suburban local. <br/><br/>The crew have converted an old Queenslander - overlooking the railway - into a cafe, it is spacious and the aesthetic gives it a homely feel, and I swear this would be like going back into the 1970s with the plain, and slightly timeless aesthetic. Out the back is a lot of astroturf and a well-kept lawn with a lot of toys and such for children to play while the parents have their meal and coffee. Seats go down the driveway, and it is comfortable. Now this gets extra credit already, since when something gets popular enough it will fill out. <br/><br/>From having a scan of that menu, I had to get it again and reread. From a few items that I had scoured from the menu before placing the orders, what I noticed was that this was no ordinary place. Had it been just a stock-standard sort of place offering all the usual items, the review would have just been for this visit. But in showing it to my dining buddy, I was reiterating that it had to be one of the next in line to visit during an upcoming weekend. And why not? This is a seasonally changing menu, and from each seasonal change brings about a whole new array of items to the menu. It will change from time to time, but for between when I went here and when this review was written, the menu was as such. <br/><br/>Each component of the breakfast menu - or more so a brunch, which might explain something - was treated as its own robust, complete meal, and the different aspects of each item on the menu were spelled out and sold with quite a bit of flair as per usual. You won't find many, or maybe any, or the normal ones here, but meals that have to be read (and possibly eaten) to get the idea across. Lunch items are a little more simple, and only a few are given. <br/><br/>Outside of that, there is a big dessert cabinet with all kinds of cakes and sweets, plus the drinks menu is generous. There is the usual range of coffees, teas, juices, and milkshakes plus the usual range of sodas.  <br/><br/>So the first time around was for a coffee and cake kind of endeavour, waiting on some people to finish an errand, and the second time around was a pre-planned breakfast date for some time down the track - the meal before the usual and needed grocery shop as well. For that first time, the general idea was that it was alright with the food; I was more taken with how relaxed everything was, the way the service was delivered and how they managed with the large yard out the back to fit more clients in. That takes converting the old Queenslander to a new level. It had a homely feel to it, the air was natural and relaxed and this certainly could be seen as an effective local. <br/><br/>The second time around though was where my real sentiments lie. But first, for the first time around. <br/><br/>Both times did involve coffee, ergo take this as the critique for it both times. The coffee in which they use is from Supreme Roasters, and that is a fantastic sign. There has not been one place that has had it, where I have been anything less than impressed by the coffee. This is one blend which is robust enough to give out a good strong hit, and it is still not too overt so other flavours and notes are allowed to seep through. Therefore, I become optimistic when I see the sign for that particular brew. It was pretty strong, the extraction of the coffee was done well done, and the texture was quite smooth. A tad bit on the hot side in comparison to other coffees, it was not really sweet or astringent in flavour and had a bit of a berry note to it. From the taste of my dining buddy's cappuccino, they also know how to texture milk. If you just wanted to stop in for coffee, it would not be too disappointing - as you are about to find out though, you will miss out on a potentially awesome meal. <br/><br/>Between the two of us, the sweets gotten for the coffee were an almond croissant and a brownie. From this initial try, the brownie was certainly good but the almond croissant could have been a bit better. In defense, this probably would have been good if it were fresh from the oven but it had a bit of stodginess at this time; though it was not without some good aspects such as its lovely almond marzipan. Maybe a bit small, on the other hand the brownie was still pretty tasty - a nice, thick texture and a good amount of chocolate. Little did I know that what came next would be something more memorable. <br/><br/>The second time rolling around was about two weeks later, where with the air horn, my house mate/dining buddy was waking me up in the wee hours of the morning. Throwing it all together in a couple of minutes, it was not long before the two of us were hitting the road for the inner-north. <br/><br/>There was virtually no doubt in which meal I was going to order. It was going to be one of two things, since one sounded like something different for breakfast, and the other just sounded so well-put together and unusual for breakfast and the latter was the choice. They dubbed it "Paul Kelly". You have a feast that is fit for the king of Tonga right here; what with braised pork shoulder, cured fennel sausage, "George's pickles" - which appeared to be chopped up and mixed in a mustard-like mixture, two poached eggs, a sandcrab beignet, and a thick slice of foccacia with good pat of pepe saya butter on top. <br/><br/>And holy macaroni was this as good as it sounded. The hunk of pork they gave was both generous in size, and tender. It must have been slowly cooking for ages, and fell apart on the fork. The flavour was fantastic, it was juicy and very tender in texture. It was already really good. As well as that, the eggs that they gave were also great quality and were bleeding all over the place when pricked with a fork. The yolks tasted good, plus the whites were lithe and soft. I quite liked the "George's pickles" mixture that they put in here. This is a house made mixture, with a mixed lot of pickles, onions and whatnot, soaked in a vinegar-based solution, and I swear there was some mustard in here. It had that distinct sharp, vinegar flavour, and made for a great accompaniment to the whole meal. Also, the sausage they had was thinly sliced and was also good. Tender, slightly spicy, and a bit chewy - this would be great on a charcutterie board. The sandcrab beignet was mildly flavoured, was soft and delicate, and well-cooked. It was lightly fried, the meat was like butter and I definitely could eat many of these suckers in one sitting. The foccacia was thick, lightly toasted, and both chewy and crusty. Plus, the amount of butter that they gave was a thick and rich one, and was slowly melting onto the bread. It is hard to describe what makes a good quality butter, but this one definitely was so. Combined up, all of these components made for one fantastic breakfast. <br/><br/>Funnily enough, my dining buddy went ahead and got the second thing on the list for me. It was a fried chicken dish. Hell, what a great choice for a breakfast since who doesn't like themselves some fried chicken - breakfast, lunch or dinner? This fried chicken meal came with paprkia cream, barely wheat, a poached egg, cured pineapple and a chilli salsa. I tried a bit of the chicken, and might have gotten a bit of cream and wheat as well. This was some of the most tender chicken that I have ever had the pleasure of eating, plus it had a really good crumb coating which tasted so lithe, complimenting further with the smoothness and bite of the paprika cream. It was with these two dishes that I knew it was pretty much as good as it gets. <br/><br/>Both of these were among some of the best meals that I can remember having in town for quite a while, and not just for breakfast - but across the board. The attention to detail with quality, the adamance to keeping the meals done as is and the whole structure with the aesthetics and customer service were all the makings of somewhere with massive attention to detail. And upon the attention to detail, the genuine nature from the customer service helped it stand out a lot more in my head. It was from these two meals that it was damn well close to acquiring the perfect score; it had that goal within its finger tips. Being very tempted to give it that coveted mark, but realising one of the maxims needed to truly earn it, I made an impulse purchase and got a muffin which was on the counter when I went up to pay. <br/><br/>What a good idea from the start, since these were warm and fresh from the oven. It was a simple raspberry muffin, possibly with white chocolate in it. This was moreish, soft, and had a good finish on the top. The size of it was giant, plus it was slightly sweet but not over-bearing. It crumbled really well, and the pieces of raspberry folded into the mixture were both plentiful and sizable. Not that much to it, however it can be agreed that they did do a good job with it, and as a result for a sweet finish, the diagnosis here is that we have ourselves the next 5.0 title holder. <br/><br/>Here is where breakfast is able to be transcended from having the "it" factor, all the way to transcending the trends and managing to stand out. As before stated, I knew there was a reason to hold off reviewing upon the first visit as the menu looked too good to pass up. Without any doubt, this is going to be one of the most remembered breakfasts for quite a while. This is the result of having a chef-level of care and addition to detail with how the food is presented, and with the bonus benefit of the portion sizes being generous, it is definitely apparent you are well within capable hands here. <br/><br/>TL;DR: Perhaps because of how it manages to change up what if offers each time, there is a freshness and lively energy to Willow and Spoon that is actually hard to find in most breakfast spots outside of the honeymoon period. Not only that, but the service is both professional and genuine and the location is perfect - close enough into town that it is easy to get to, a bit far out so it is not caught up in a rush - and as a result is family-friendly. The fare was some of the most delicious in which I have had, every component was top notch quality and did not take a backseat to any of the others. Couple all that with great coffee, and Willow and Spoon is a shining star in Brisbane's inner-north.

It was a very hot day and the staff welcomed me with their warmest smile but the AC in the cafe was not working well, so It's not a good place to go in a hot summer day. <br/><br/>I ordered a cap and The Willow, there wasn't other option for meat other than bacon, but the bread was very delicious and fresh. Coffee is normal, no surprises.

This is a place we frequent every couple of weeks. I always enjoy my brunch/lunch here and today was no exception. I had a Chipotle Chicken Bowl which is absolutely delicious -it's not the first time I've had it! I hope it's not going to be the last coz I think they're changing their menu next week!! My partner got the Pork Benny? Not too sure what it was called but he loved it.<br/>The food is top notch, I've never been disappointed. The staff are friendly and are willing to assist you if u need -my daughter's have allergies to dairy so they were kind enough to whip them up a dairy free frappe which wasn't on the menu.<br/>There is also a lil grass area out the back with toys so perfect for families, though I don't think there's a change table available.
The Jaminator
Very trendy brunch destination with delicious food combinations. We had the karate chicken with avocado and the Atlantic Salmon with croquets. Really great flavour combinations to tantalisethe tastebuds.

Nicki and I had probably the best night of our lives. Our guests all had very VERY positive feedback about the venue, the food, and especially the staff. Everything went smoothly from planning, to great food, music, and FANTASTIC value for money. Highly recommend Keith and his team

My family dined here for a family brunch. The service was very prompt and super friendly. The brunch menu was very diverse and unique which was exciting to choose from. I ordered the pumpkin loaf with avo and sukkah which tasted lovely. My hazelnut latte was yummy too.
Kylie Lindsay
Consistently interesting and delicious food. Good service. Best milkshake I have had as an adult and the coffee is very good too. It looks small but there is a huge area around the back.

Had the most mind-blowing breakfast at Willow and Spoon last week so had to share. The crispy pork breakfast was probably the best breakfast I've ever had! My husband ordered the croissant pudding and I would have just as happily chowed down on that! The whole menu was really inventive so I can't wait to head back to try more!Coffee was great and service was warm and friendly. The outdoors area is great for toddlers and children as well so we will definitely be coming back with our son next time. <br/>This place is a real standout! Give them your money!

Food and service are exceptional. I have been to Willow and Spoon numerous times and every time, walked away happy, I can't fault the food. I'm trying to eat my way through the menu! My favourite so far, the pork belly ramen, porcini croquettes with truffle mayonnaise, Boston beans, toasted muesli with strawberry milk, sweet potato gnocchi with chorizo.

This place is just lovely and dare I say perfect for a Sunday brunch. They have seating on the street, inside and in their lovely back garden. Service was friendly and prompt. They introduce a new menu to match the seasons and they never disappoint. Some might say the portions are a bit small but it's quality over quantity and I've always left satisfied.
John Hennegan
5 of us plus a couple of babies went there on Sunday for breakfast. 3 out of 5 of us ordered a hot breakfast dish and the other 2 were muesli and something else. All 3 hot breakfast dishes were stone cold. 2 of us ordered poached eggs and I even asked that they were runny and the waiter said "of course that's how we always make them". The eggs were not runny at all. We weren't asked if everything was OK or offered cracked pepper etc. The place is very kid friendly which is great but going out is still about the food and we were not impressed at all. I hate spending money on food I can do a better job of making myself.<br/>
Jenny Ngo
Cute little cafe located in Newmarket, the breakfast menu is limited. However, first time being here their new menu really impressed me ! I ordered the Muesli and yogurt and it taste as good as it look 😍.. the Chicken chipotle bowl was also delish !! Staff here are so nice, felt very welcomed and well looked after.
Lifelovetravelfood
I don't give out five stars very often but this place wholeheartedly deserves it. We visited for Sunday breakfast and were pleasantly surprised at the large outdoor area out the back. We had a pram and were immediately brought a highchair which was much appreciated. I love places that offer to take your coffee order straight away and that's what happened here. We both really enjoyed them and hooray for almond milk!<br/><br/>The menu is great. Really different dishes which all sound delicious and a great selection to choose from. I really like places with unusual menus without being too crazy! Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day so I'm always looking for places with dishes that are a bit different. This place really delivers.<br/><br/>My husband had the rosti and they were absolutely delicious. The mustard hollandaise was especially delicious. I couldn't decide so asked for a recommendation from our waiter and you could tell he really knew the menu. I had the homemade baked beans with ham hock, poached egg, Turkish toast and fried mozzarella. It. Was. Awesome. So often homemade beans are bland and tasteless but these were fantastic. The fried cheese was SO yum!<br/><br/>I loved that there's space for prams, a play area for kids and a really friendly vibe. All the staff were genuinely happy and this really made our experience even better. The fact that it's on the Entertainment Card gives this place even more bonus points. We will definitely be back!
Ellacreighton
Please add the chicken tacos to your regular menu. They were soo much better than we expected. We've come back twice hoping they'll be available
Jess
Yummy Sunday brekky in a cute little converted house. Loved the ramen!! However the 63 degree egg was cold? Perhaps pre cooked and stored in the fridge... Not ideal. The broth was great though and enjoyed the noodles and pork.<br/>My husband was really impressed with his milkshake - served in the metal cup is best!!<br/>Definitely book if you want to come on a weekend. Will be back to check out lunch!!
Brisfoodiefangirl
The venue is so cute and the staff are so friendly. I definitely want to go back and try more menu options, such a broad menu and presented beautifully.

Love this place, delicious food served by lovely people. It has a great patio out the back for relaxed catch ups. The staff always seem really genuine and the service and food is always prompt. The food is beautifully presented and the myself looks like an art piece and tastes delicious!

Great coffee, friendly staff, fantastic meal (kransky sausage and waffles delicious). Take away coffee cups amazing!<br/>Loss on half a point because no reachable pokestop or eggs bene.

Just had an epic breakfast at Willow & Spoon. The whole staff were welcoming and the lovely Eve sorted us out with hot chocolate and a raspberry and coconut milk smoothie - both were glorious. While the whole menu was extremely tempting we stuck with old faithful bacon and eggs with added avocado, halloumi and mushrooms. Food was heavenly, with mushrooms being the highlight for me. The cafe became quieter after lunch and we were able to enjoy the rain on the back patio with, yes, more hot chocolate and marshmallows. Eve was super attentive and generous and we rolled away with a new hang spot. Yay!

I have been to willow and spoon twice now in the last month. The Chai brewed with oat milk is the perfect warm comfort drink on these chilly mornings. All meals have been full of flavour and creativity. I had the smoked salmon with soft boiled egg the first time and it was beautiful. Next time I went for classic bacon and eggs and it did not disappoint. Service is friendly and attentive, restaurant is welcoming and cozy.

I stopped by Willow and Spoon last week whilst in the area. I grabbed a quick lunch and coffee and found the overall experience to be a positive one!

This place is amazing, food is always delicious and creative, service is next level. Always my first choice for breakfast/weekend brunching. Yeah it's not cheap but you get what you pay for!

I love this place. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere. Coffee and food were delicious. Do yourself a favour and get the pulled pork burger. Couldn't recommend more.

I'd love to write a review on the food but it never arrived. After waiting for a time I was told by the waitress that my breakfast had been forgotten about. After waiting another 40 minutes it still didn't arrive. At that time we had to leave. No sort of compensation was offered, just insincere apologies.

Had the Icarus which was ah-mazing. Nothing to fault at all - the flavours were spot on.<br/>Took about 1/2 hour for food to come out, but they were completely packed due to a Christmas function. <br/>The cafe had an interesting layout, with a takeaway counter and the front, and undercover seating with a garden for the kids at the back. <br/>Breakfast was a tad on the pricey side though - $148 between the 6 of us.<br/>Would definitely return. Highly recommended.

As my loyal readers would know, we have been trying out a lot of brunch places recently. With our recent interest, we were pleasantly surprised to receive an invite to try out Willow and Spoon's new spring menu. We attended last Saturday, and were caught in the torrential rains on our way there. Luckily our table was still waiting for us, and we were ushered in very quickly and seated without further ado. Water was provided promptly, service was friendly and efficient. Apparently there is also a backyard which provides for outdoor seating on regular days, but this was not available due to the rains.

We loved our recent visit to Willow and Spoon! Special mention to the waiter joe who is just filled with enthusiasm and we la la love that! We had the Willow and Icaraz and were both left rolling out. The cafe itself has a unique concept with a garden area perfect for events, kids as well as your furry ones!

I have driven past Willow and Spoon many times but never dropped in and after our visit I am disappointed that I haven’t sooner! They are open seven days until 2pm but also serve monthly themed dinners which look fab-u-lous!. The menu was very appealing, it really caters for everyone (vegetarians, gluten free). It even has a kiddies menu which you don’t often find at cafes...

Cute little cafe in Wilston. I ordered the croquettes, coffee and a juice which were all delicious. Staff were very friendly. Love the fact that it is dog friendly.

Never again. I tried this place originally when they were in Alderley..i had probably the worst coffee ive ever had in my life..but i thought i would give them another go when they relocated to Wilston as it always seems super busy..well unfortunately i was let down again. I waited about 10mins for our menus, then another 10mins for someone to take our order..in the end i had to line up at the counter to make it..then our drinks took forever to arrive along with the food.. and the bees knees pancakes were flavorless and the sauce around it was watery..the actual pancakes were so dry and i actually think the prepackaged ones from woolies that you shake in a bottle have more flavour.<br/><br/>and also the sourdough bread with the bacon n egg meal ..i had to push my knife into it that hard to cut, at one stage my plate nearly flew off the table. All i can say is im glad i had a buy 1 get 1 free voucher..

Have been here twice and last visit was average. Not a lot of variety on the menu and noticed other patrons getting a meal we weren't even offered. For some reason the waitress told us we weren't able to order it. Coffee is okay but I wouldn't say it's the best in Brisbane!

Breakfast was tasty and interesting but due to food intolerances (lactose and Gluten) unable to have coffee). Zymil is too manufactured and oats are variable with gluten,

Great spot for breakfast and coffee. Staff are super helpful and food is always delicious. Can get busy on the weekends so would suggest making a booking.

Waited an hour outside to be seated only to be told the kitchen was closed which was a shame hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else as friends had suggested the restaurant as a great place to go to

I had a great lunch today. Willow and Spoon make a great and simple food very tasty as well, I had my banana and coconut smoothy seriously it was amazing. Keep it up good work. 😄

I went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. I found the staff friendly and attentive. The menu had some interesting items while still having classic breakfast options. The croquettes were nice and so was the pulled pork.
Fortheloveoffood
Great family-friendly cafe. Good food, nice surroundings and a relaxed, happy atmosphere and staff. A sunny, grassy area at the back is great for the little ones & you can keep an eye on them from the patio.

The epitome of mediocrity, and it took 40 minutes for it come out.<br/><br/>Thoroughly disappointed.

Anyway, I can tell you we all enjoyed our meals though I have to say the sweet potato foam (huh?) overpowered the zucchini and corn fritters to the extent that I could really only taste sweet potato. And even though I love sweet things, this was way too sweet for me as a breakfast dish. I am a bit stunned about the price of the Amigo come to think of it - $25 for basically eggs and bacon and a few bits and bobs. Maybe it's just me (and Mr Pickings), but when are cafes and restaurants going to dump the whole wooden serving board idea? I just want a proper plate! Vegans, vegos, and gluten nay-sayers are all looked after here. Staff are friendly and you sit in quirky surrounds. They have won awards the last couple of years for Best Cafe so are obviously doing something right. Well worth a wander down:)

Best breakfast special this morning! Confit duck rosti. Yum yum yum

Insufficient dietary options and overpriced food!

Funky food and friendly service. Willow and Spoon gets a definite thumbs up from me. I have been a handful of times now and every time the service and food has been great. While its hard not to choose my good old faithful bluebeard (big beaky with heaps of extras including haloumi,) there weekend specials have been catching my attention. After a quick chat with the friendly waitress we learnt that the chefs buy there produce from the Northey st markets which is a massive plus in my books. <br/>We sat out the back and while we dined my girlfriends daughter played in the yard with the other kiddies. <br/>So not only where our bellies, kids and tummy's satisfied but our conscious too as we knew we were supporting an environmentally friendly cafe.

A little dissapointed. Attempted to go to this place as i have heard so many good things about it. Rang to make a booking for Friday night ( just in case) as there open times on this paged said they were open. Sorry Closed. The receptionist said she would change the open times on the site which 5 days later still has not happened.<br/><br/>However we will keep an open mind until we try the food and service.<br/><br/><br/>-----06 Jan, 2015-----<br/><br/>Disgruntled or Envious we shall see.. Isn't it interesting that most if not all the complaints have been submitted by reviewers with 2 or less reviews to their name. Makes you wonder how genuine they are. My wife and I will be dinning at this place Friday so I'll update and give this site a honest candid educated opinion. I was a chef in a past life but still know my way around a restaurant it's like riding a bike really. Ultimately in the hospitality industry you are only as good as your last meal, some customers can be to judge-mental after 1 experience, especially if they have been watching to much master chef on Television. Can I suggest that any restauranteur cafe owner worth their salt will deal with a legitimate compliant professionally and more often than not, will offer you a full refund or a offer for you to return for free so as not to lose you for ever. <br/>Perhaps if you spoke with the manager rationally and calmly the outcome of your experience may have been different.<br/>If you did the above then the owners deserve the fall out, if you are envious competition then get a life or learn how to cook.<br/> <br/>Have to say I am looking forward to trying this place out as we have heard nothing but praise for the food and service nearly as important as chefs out the back that work they behinds off but rarely get to dip their hands in the tip jar because the floor staff get the first lol.<br/>I'm not at all attached to this place in any way my views are based on nearly 30 years past hospitality industry experience.<br/>Regards Terry Mac

We ordered coffees while thinking of what food to order, but no staff came back to check on us. They had forgotten we were there even when they served people around us! Unlike the last reviewer we didn't get so much as an apology and still paid for our drinks. The food is good but a little overpriced for what it is.

10 out of 10 for customer service.. My girl friend and I ordered coffees this morning and after waiting for about 15mins asked for our beverages and were told that they had been forgotten. The staff were very sorry and immediately stated that we would have our coffees on the house. No problems at all and the coffee was great. This is a lovely reflection on the staff as I have had a lot of issues with late or forgotten coffee at other establishments accompanied with rude service .
Brisbee35
Fantastic service. Really enjoyed our brunch experience at this cafe this morning. Great service from its friendly staff and the food was tasty with simplicity. Liked the chilli jam! Didn't try the coffee today but will return another time for it.

"Youse" need to lift your game!. You definitely know you're in Qld when the waiter greets you with "How are Youse today ay"? I was looking forward to Willow and Spoons new address as my last visit to the previous site was disappointing. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. The coffee had a taste I've never previously experienced on this planet or any other! The breakfast menu looked impressive but failed to deliver. My wife's eggs were so watery that the sourdough toast was completely sodden and served with barely cooked bacon that should have been halumi! My pulled pork or pulled cat, take your pick was served on a brioche bun that was rock hard accompanied with yet another undercooked watery egg! The service and food certainly did not match the excessive prices!!

Great atmosphere and coffee. Stopped in for a quite coffee and snack, fantastic!!<br/>Ordered the bowl of coffee and banana bread....Awesome coffee, the bowl makes it easy for a bloke to drink a large coffee without having to try and wrangle those little handles on the mugs.<br/>The warm banana bread was just enough and not sickly sweet.<br/>The wait staff are super friendly and full of smiles, couldn't do enough to help and keen for a chat, if you are looking for a funky, friendly coffee place then this is it.

AMAZING PLACE. Visited willow and spoon after a recommendation from a friend. I had a great experience from good coffee (I had a few!) to excellent service with waiters. The food was really tasty and delivered quickly. Am definitely coming again!
Enjoy
Expensive and not all that good - $9'for a stale toasty... Which had no flavour, hardly any cheese.. Coffee was ok... Lady taking orders rude.
Louisthe1
Great service, great food, but squishy. We made the mistake of turning up on a weekend without a booking, We got a table - right on Newmarket Rd, yuck. However, that's our fault for not booking. All the tables are squeezed in quite tightly but there is a nicer garden area out the back. When our food arrived there had been a mix up which was swiftly rectified - top marks for service. The food was delicious and the coffee was good too. If I lived very close I would go again but probably won't be making a special trip to the new location.

Curdled coffee Rude barista.... Curdled coffee<br/>Rude barista<br/>Could've cooked the same brekky at home <br/>Only positive was the waiters were nice and so was the water!

Bad service. Service was atrocious.Had to send coffee back. Had to ask to place my food order. Food average.
Beloddy
RUDE and expensive. Thought I'd pop in to check them out after the move. Big mistake. Our waitress had bad attitude, and came across as quite hostile. I got charged over $20 for (dry, underseasoned) scrambled eggs on vegemite toast. Coffee was burned too. Never going back. W+S need to lift their game.
Dimity Rutherford
Not happy. I feel as though Brisbane is dillusional in believing this is one of our best breakfasts. The quality does not match the price tag, we left our meals, will never be returning. Overpriced rubbish.
Lucy Pearce
No table available even though we booked. Stone cold porridge, dried and shriveled sausages and hard, cold poached eggs and unpleasant coffee! Staff carrying leaking garbage bags past our table and full view of the toilets. Paid $90.00 for a horrible and inedible breakfast. Very disappointing and highly overpriced.Avoid, avoid, avoid!

Abysmal Service. Today I went to Willow and Spoon for the second time to have coffee with a friend. I was a little apprehensive though, as the first time I came for breakfast with my family, it was extraordinarily busy, with slow service and serving incorrect orders (at the time I accounted this to the massive number of customers, and therefore excused it), but being a Tuesday for morning tea, we were pleasantly surprised that we had caught the cafe at a lull in customers. We waited by the sign that told us to "please wait to be seated" for a few minutes, before approaching the counter, where one of the staff told us to have a seat, and as it was full table service, someone would be with us shortly. Seeing as there was only one other couple there at the time, we had our choice of seating, and were seated and given a menu immediately. Once we decided what to order, we waited for staff to come and take our requests. We waited, and waited, and waited. After 20 minutes, and still no sign of any staff member, I went inside to see if I could place our order there instead, when the woman behind the counter told me to sit back down and that someone would come out. A few minutes later, she came to take our orders, and we entered phase two of our waiting. As we were now the only people upstairs, we didn't imagine that an order for two coffees and a biscuit would take very long. One coffee and the biscuit came out after about 15 minutes, but there was still no sign of the second coffee. Half an hour had passed, and I had to track down a staff member to ask if the second coffee was on the way or not. She went to have a look and came back to assure me that "they're just making it now". Sure enough, we were greeted with the second coffee moments later, for my friend to drink alone, as mine was long finished, as it was already getting cold. After paying to another different staff member, it was clear that there were at least 4 staff working, which is 3 more than they needed to make 2 coffees, and pick a biscuit out of the jar. We both left Willow and Spoon today feeling unimpressed and unsatisfied. Not a good place to visit if you like being served.
Matthew
Not up to expectation. The staff were welcoming and the food was okay however that's it. The atmosphere is terrible. There are many other places I would prefer to visit. It definitely doesn't make my list for a return visit.
Sunny Girl
A hyped up disappointment. It started with a line-up, which is no big deal, if the wait is worth it. Which it wasn't. $9 for a kids meal of bacon, egg and sourdough - waaaaay overpriced for what it was. Website Advert: 'We reject the opportunity to let you know that our breakfasts are the best in Brisbane. Hands down.' Thumbs down, I think that was meant to be - I also reject the opportunity to say that the breakfasts are the best in Brisbane, lol :-) The highlight - perfectly poached egg. Otherwise, the 'sourdough' was a dried out small piece of bread and the bacon....I'm not sure what happened there - it was bacon but it also seemed more 'dried out' than cooked, distasteful. The coffees were okay - not an experience we'd go out of our way to repeat. The other meal was The Breakfast Club - same issues with the 'sourdough' and such a poorly presented meal for $18. Call me fussy but for $18, I have some expectations. On the whole, they were not met. Not a great experience unfortunately, especially after the complimentary write up in the local Quest. On the flip side, and especially considering how incredibly busy they were - customer service was good.

Still great food and Friendly Service. Just tried the new location at Newmarket - still great food, friendly staff and lay back atmosphere and charm of the old place - only bummer is that now I have to dive there! Thanks guys. Karyn

Lively... Stopped in for breakfast, having gone past the old location a few times and meaning to visit at some point..<br/>The staff were welcoming and friendly. As more people came in and it got more crowded, they remained cheery and found tables to place the newcomers. They were attentive, and when I was looking over at the counter decor someone came over to ask if I needed anything.<br/>It's not the hugest menu (all day breakfast on the weekend), but what they do they do well. Had the Eartha Kitt breakfast and the special of the day. Eggs were perfectly poached, and that rosti is nicely crispy on the outside.<br/>Didn't make it to the old location, but was good to find it at this one.

What's happened?. I was so disappointed with the new Willow & Spoon. I'm not sure if it's under new management but the food/menu was very average. The new premises was filthy, the floor was disgusting. A real shame considering old W&S was a hit but definitely won't be coming back.
Mel M
Something has changed. Food somehow not as flavorful or large. Staff have lost their friendliness (really bordering on rude). A waitress dropped not one but two glasses of water next to us - glass and water everywhere. This has become a chaotic breakfast spot rather than a sweet little cafe. I have always supported these guys but it's getting hectic. Let's hope the move will help?
Erinloc
I really want to love W&S but.... I was a regular when W&S opened but the food has just got smaller and pricier as things have moved on. Owners and their staff are lovely and I wish them all the best...but lunch and breakfast just don't seem worth it anymore. Will still go in time to time for their Chai tea on oat milk- it is great.

Great food and great service!. A group of 5 of us went for dinner. We all ordered differently and we were all individually impressed. We ordered the bruschetta and garlic bread to start, which were both a spin on the usual bruschetta and garlic bread, and both were delicious. I ordered the duck for my main, which was delicious. My only complaints would be that it could have been a bit warmer and it was just a touch over cooked. My friend ordered the gnocchi which I tasted, and it was really lovely. I ordered the deconstructed lemon meringue for dessert, which did not disappoint. The lemon curd was to die for. The service was great, the overall experience was pretty good too. I'll be back to try the breakfast menu!
Yum Yum
Really delicious dinner here early on a Saturday evening! Gnocchi was one of the best I've ever had ( including a genuine Nonna's) and lamb was pretty good too. Dessert was less amazing, a sweet apple ravioli just didn't really do it for us. But we'll be back to try some of the other mains options. Nice team too.

Been meaning to try this place for ages although was disappointed. Atmosphere was good although tables packed too closely together and very noisy. Food was also disappointing if not for my half price entertainment voucher. Asian chicken salad - the only thing that saved this meal was my request for chilli. The chicken was so plain and over cooked. Chai tea just tasted like warm milk. Pork belly was bland and still slightly tough.
Sam Hughes
Very disappointed with the lunch I just had, barely any meat in my roll and soggy potatoes! Lovely staff and looking cafe, also good for kids..shame about the food.
Lilliths_place
We went for dinner last night. Entree of pork belly was really yummy. Mains of Barra was a little dry and needed more sauce but was well cooked. Dessert of lemon merengue was divine! <br/><br/>But the service was bad. I might be picky, but I really hate it when they take plates away while others are still eating. I also don't like staff leaning over/across me to serve others. They were also very pushy for orders and seemed to want us to move along much faster. So that left the impression that we probably won't go back as the food (except for dessert) didn't make the bad service worthwhile.

I've been twice and it's not up to the hype....... I've been to the Willow and Spoon twice now and been left feeling disappointed overall on both occasions and I've decided I probably won't be going back again. The most recent experience is below.<br/><br/>Pros: Very friendly staff, very welcoming, nice atmosphere and their coffee milkshake is fantastic and good value for the size. It comes in an old school stainless steel/metal milk shake cup so stays cold. <br/><br/>The rest: We were seated and given the lunch menu (it was about 12:30 at this time) and our order was taken reasonably quickly. But no drinks menu was given to us nor was their one on the table. Odd. We waited for a few minutes and decided perhaps we should just order drinks up at the counter. We asked at the counter and were given a drinks menu and told a waitress would come take our order. She did and the milkshakes came out quickly. No worries. We were hungry and also had other things to do so we both ordered bacon and eggs (eggs done the same way for both of us) with a spiced egg plant relish thinking that this would probably be the quickest dish on the menu to be cooked. We ordered the same thing with eggs the same way, to keep it simple and hopefully fast. Our bacon and eggs arrived about 40 - 45 minutes later. Wow. In my experience it doesn't take that long to cook bacon and eggs. I understand that there can be mix ups with orders in the kitchen, but it wasn't busy at all. Staff were mostly cleaning up and setting up for the evening session. It would have been nice if they at least acknowledged there had been a delay and apologized. As for the meals, the bacon was just cooked, the presentation was poor, the eggs were overcooked on the bottom and only just cooked inside, the spiced relish was freezing, bland and not spiced. To be honest it didn't really seem to compliment the rest of the meal at all. The best part was the butter and the toast. If I had to wait that long it should have been amazing! :) <br/><br/>To sum up: We paid nearly $50 for this experience(I think about $46) and walked out, shook our heads, decided it was really overpriced, the slowest bacon and eggs to be cooked in history and that if we ever had to come here again with other friends we'd probably only order milkshakes or maybe coffee. Sorry Willow and Spoon but I just don't understand how you could have won best cafe two years running, and I've been twice now and both times found you lacking.
Amy
Nice place for a coffee and cake. Meals are tasty but minimal tables in nice area- wouldn't eat out the back again. Take away coffee is also very fast.
Shelley Belly
A great atmosphere with quirky decor and friendly, fast service. We ordered from the breakfast menu and I received the best poached eggs I've had in a long time. The menu is varied and original. I highly recommend this place!

Great little café on the North side. With an early start in Alderley, I thought I'd try the Willow and Spoon. Great coffee and service, food not that tasty but well prepared. There is outdoor seating out the back that I unfortunately didn't see until I was leaving. Definitely be back.

I'm a local and I go to willow and spoon about once a week the staff are beautiful. The young girl Tess I think her name is, she is always very sweet! I definitely come here not only because the food is delicious but for the atmosphere. I can see why it got Brisbane's best cafe! The coffee is always perfect. Definitely a brisbane favorite.

Have been to Willow and spoon for breakfast, Lunch and dinner. The food is always delicious and the staff are so welcoming, friendly and go beyond to make your experience fantastic. Love the relaxed and family friendly atmosphere. Love the different menu.

Wonderful atmosphere, excellent service and specular meals, definitely check this one out.

Good service. My wife & I went there last Saturday. Busy as. Service was very good with attentive staff and quick they were too. A bit out of the way and not sure I would like to be seated on the footpath (road is a busy one) but will probably be back.

Lunch on Saturday with 87 year old Mother - thanks for taking such care and attention to her on her birthday. We enjoyed the barramundi & dessert. Toowoomba folk say thanks.

Disappointing service. We arrived before 8.30am when there were very few patrons. Service was very slow, and we had to ask for a menu twice which I thought would be bought to a newly settled group automatically. Our waitress was also quite unfriendly. The kids meals were great and appropriately sized. I ordered a hard poached egg on the side of my avocado sourdough. It was soft poached and I was unable to eat it as I'm pregnant. When we asked if we could pay separately we were told no unapologetically. My friend suggested we put some on my card and the balance on hers which they were fine with (I'd call that paying separately). Overall I was underwhelmed with my W & S experience. Disappointing as this is an appealing cafe in a great position but it's the little things such as happy staff and the ability to simply settle bills that make the difference in the competitive cafe scene.

Dinner Review - We had d.... Dinner Review - <br/><br/>We had dinner at W&S the other night. I really enjoyed my meal and pudding. The flavors were amazing. The service was polite but maybe a bit slow but hey who's rushing. <br/><br/>I would recommend to a friend. <br/>I would go back<br/><br/>I was pleasantly surprised.
Tiffany Jenkins
I have been a dedicated W&S fan for the past two years but unfortunately they seem to have started to stumble. I agree with other reviews which state the food is a little overpriced but always felt the food was high quality and quite imaginative. Unfortunately on my most recent visit, I waited over an hour for 3 small slices of avocado on toast for $12. My partner had "the willow" - your basic bacon and eggs - which has dropped in price to $16 from $18...still overpriced I think, especially if it comes with an hour long wait.
Ella De Bono
I live locally to Willow & Spoon and have been looking forward to visiting. However, I was EXTREMELY disappointed with the service and prices at this cafe. I asked what take away options they had available and ordered fruit toast with butter for $6.50. Not only was it overpriced, but the bread was average, thin and nothing special. And this wasn't the worst part! As it was a take way order, which the waitress knew about, I asked if they could butter the toast for me. She bluntly told me that the chef refused to butter the toast as it was 'in his contract that he didn't do it!' The cafe was not accommodating at all for take away with people standing around amongst tables waiting for their take away coffee. The service was appalling and I will not be returning to Willow & Spoon.
Kate Kate
Our breakfast at Willow and Spoon was tasty and fresh however extremely over priced. I ordered the muesli which came with 1tbs of Passiont fruit Labna and barely enough milk to cover the oats. It was tasty, however an easily made meal which you could make at home for under $7!

Great food. We had never been here before but took a punt and booked for an early Family Christmas dinner in December for 20 people. We pre ordered our meals, the price was reasonable and the meals were great. Service was also excellent.<br/>We were seated out the back which was not as nice as inside and would be uncomfortable if it was wet but it was fine in lovely weather.<br/>We'll be back.<br/>Yes - parking is a bit tricky, try the back streets, don't tempt fate by parking in a neighbouring business.
Ack.flower87
Really good breakfast. Went for breakfast and it was really good. You need to have an open minded with some of the menu items, but it was really good! I asked for a coffee in a mug, which was disappointing because it was weak and I like it strong. All coffee places charge an extra $1 for a mug, so you should get more coffee in it, not just milk. They also told me when I order that $2 would be added to my bill to support the communities`s homeless. I don't begrudge them for trying to help the community, but don't burden your customers with an obligation they don't support. But great food.
Daph
Went for dinner and the food over priced and over cooked. No parking and people be warned parked across road and was towed away went back to willow and spoon didn't want to know. Get some parking and drop your prices

Had an awesome meal here recently. Friendly and personable service, innovative menu and flawless meals. Definitely a favourite on my list!

Non-pretentious hipsters. Have dined here for breakfast a few times now, each very enjoyable.<br/><br/>A little pricey for a suburban cafe but the quality is there. Last I had the pulled pork which is great. Coffee is full flavoured and good quality.<br/><br/>The dining experience feels like a chic university share house; and they're all studying art history. A visual cacophony of decoration but it feels homely and well kept. Service is friendly and efficient.
Batmanwithteeth
Overpriced and not great. So I heard great things about this place - and really wanted to give it a go - so I went down one Thursday morning when the place was nice and quiet.<br/>First things first - service is so slow! Don't get me wrong, the staff are really friendly - and I don't want to be rushed - but just getting someone to take our order took 30 minutes, after the 15 minutes we waited to get a menu (well go and get our own). The place was quiet so I can't see what took so long.<br/>The menu is well over priced for breakfast. $5 for two slices of toast! Come on - I understand they have to cover costs - but this was toast. Not magic toast - but your bog standard toast - and if you want to charge $5 for it, hide it in the price of something else - don't have the audacity to say to your customers 'yeah - we're so great we're going to get you to pay $5 for some toast'. <br/>TBH I think there were lots of hidden charges though because the cost of breakfast is crazy - and to have it come out warm at best - for the price it is not worth it.<br/>They have tried to be far too 'hipster / creative' with the menu and everything has to be a bit quirky. There's nothing on there if you just fancy something simple like egg on toast. I ordered what I thought was the least fussy thing on the menu (sausage with bacon and potato) and it was covered in some weird sauce that did not work.<br/>The milkshakes were pretty awesome - and I would say one of the best I have ever tried - but it didn't make up for the fact this place is overpriced / has slow service / tries to be something it is not.<br/>If you want to charge crazy prices for decent food - make sure the food is decent and the service is matching.<br/>Won't be going back despite your offer of a free meal.

Love this place! Whoever invented Eggs Benedict with crumbed chicken for breaky is a genius! Mad love
Felprado23
Over priced, long wait.. I have to admit that the coffee is perfect but the food is extremely over priced and we the wait is unjustified and long.<br/>Au$17 for 2 fried eggs, two strips of bacon, a bread slice toasted on a toaster and two coffee spoon worth of tomato relish that was just enough to cover one of my breads.... Over priced..... Everything I described would take no longer than 5 minutes to cook if the frypan was already hot so I would give them 10 minutes... Guess how long it took? 50 minutes. <br/>I am never coming back and I will make sure all my friends know that all that fuzz abot the place is unrealistic.
Coq Monsieur
I have to agree with the reviews about ordinary portions and the menu being seriously overpriced. I left disappointed and hungry... the contrived hipster settings left a lot to be desired... kind of reminded me of every other dive I've eaten in and paid a premium for doing so.

Friendly and relaxed. Have been to Willow and Spoon a few times now. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Have only had desserts and coffees so far. At the moment there is wonderful dessert on the menu called The Montague. It is delicious . Try this restaurant if you like relaxed and unpretentious dining.
LouiseR
Overpriced. Its a shame to say this - I always enjoyed Willow+Spoons friendly service + great coffee. Its just that when you pay over $20 for a breaky it should be brilliant and sadly its not. It was a fairly stock standard "big breaky" but alot higher in price than some really good breakfast places. This isn't the only time we've been disappointed so we'll be giving it a break for a while.
Tash
The staff here are so lovely. I've been here for breakfast so many times now, I love their old school vanilla shakes, and I bring international colleagues here for dinner. Their the new neighbors.

Average. Went for lunch and left still hungry. Food is good and ambience is also good but maybe I should try again.

Great experience. I have had several incredible breakfasts here and an equally enjoyable dinner recently. I have brought a few friends who will also be returning. The care and attention to the food is unsurpassed! I really like the service which is friendly, attentive and relaxed. This place is a real gem and looking forward to coming back soon! JIM

Thanks a brunch!. Willow & Spoon is my favourite cafe for a hearty brunch, friendly service, consistent coffee, and the food really is always amazing (and whoever chooses the music has great taste)<br/>Almost too handy that it's an easy walk from my house!

The best brekkie yet. I have to admit I could be accused of bias as Willow and Spoon is my Sunday brekkie regular however, as a faithful customer I have to say that the brekkie special I had today (Song Dynasty - Szechuan pulled pork, maple baked beans, ginger salsa and a fried egg) is one of the best breakfasts I've ever had there. <br/>All the flavours were perfectly balanced (the ginger salsa had just the right amount of ginger but was in no danger of overwhelming the spicy Szechuan or the sweetness of the maple), and the dish was sized just right, leaving you full but with your taste buds clamoring for more.

The place to be. If there's ever somewhere else I'd rather be it's Willow & Spoon! My husband and I have been several times now for breakfast and lunch, with friends, relatives and just on our own. We've never had a bad experience. We always get excited about the menu and the food is always beautifully prepared and just so delicious. Love this place!

Paid $8 for a milkshake - overpriced and ridiculous.

Quick lunch during shopping. Found this place on Urbanspoon. Always concerned when I read bad reviews but needs must. Need not have worried, busy but got a table out the back. Very eclectic mix of clientel. We both had sausages with an avacodo side, yummie. No licence if that is a challenge.

Bad customer service. My wife and I went into this resturant just before 7:00AM. The doors were open. All we wanted was a cup of coffee but was very rudely turned down by the lady behind the counter and she said " We are not open as yet come back later'. I was shocked by the way she scread at us. This was literally 3 minutes before 7:00. I know this resturant has won awards, but you guys are rude and inpolite. If you cannot be nice to people don't work in the hospitality business.
Aka_myself
Tasty breakfast but very pricey, especially if you go on a public holiday. Ouch. coffee came out cold. Nice atmosphere.

Wonderful food, friendly service,. My husband and I recently walked in to Willow and Spoon for the first time to have lunch and it was highly satisfying. The service was wonderful - Keith was polite, friendly and looked after us from beginning to end. The food was fresh, original and extremely satisfying. The venue is unique, very cute and I felt really comfortable in the space they have created. The prices were fine and I intend to go back and take my friends and family when they visit. Fabulous spot where the owners are obviously serious about providing high quality food at an affordable price while smiling at the same time. Great!

It may have been a busy Sunday, but we waited for more than 20 minutes for our coffees. When our brunch finally arrived, Mr's very simple eggs, bacon and mushrooms were cold. My 'The Stranger' eggs with salsa were tasty enough, but they weren't worth the wait.

What is all the Fuss about ?. We decided to take the drive from CBD to Alderley for brunch last Sunday after hearing all the vibe about Willow and Spoon. Venue - very ordinary. The small front area was full (which does not take much) and we were ushered to a portable folding table on the dirt in the back scruffy yard. Uber urban maybe for some however for us the poor state of this restaurant/cafe killed it. Coupled with slow service and the pretentious opinion of the menu maker that everyone loves aged blue vein cheese flavoured butter with their toast left us to pay the bill and move on to better pastures. Overall a quite tragic experience.

The Perfect Night Out. A night out without children and getting over a dose of the flu, I asked my husband to take me to a cosy, local restaurant where I could have some comfort food like lamb shanks in nice warm surrounds. So we popped into Willow at Spoon and asked for a table for two and the friendly waitress said she'd show us a couple of options, but once we were shown the two squishy couches I was sold.<br/><br/>I had a slow cooked beef and mashed potato dish (the description on the menu was much better) and the beef just surrended at the sight of my fork, it was amazing, the potato was smooth and there was some caramelised onion action happening as well, which is always good. Husband had duck, which he always chooses wherever we go, and was also very happy with his choice.<br/><br/>Even though I was too full to finish my meal and had to rely on my lovely partner to help me out, I really wanted to have a bit of desert. (What a hypocritical parent I am.) Regardless, we had the vanilla and lavender creme brulee (not sure if that's how you spell it) and it was absolutely wonderful.<br/><br/>As you can tell if you're still reading I am by no means a food critic, but I can say I had delicious, well priced food, served by friendly and efficient staff in a warm and funky environment. After reading some of the other reviews it seems you may either love or hate this place. I am definately in the former camp, and very happy for it.

Beautiful Service & Amazing Coffee. I am absolutely delighted to report that the service is wonderful and above all consistent. The coffee is great and food superb! The one time my food wasn’t to standard the owners were more than accommodating to right any wrongs. It is so refreshing to find somewhere in Brisbane that cares as much as they do about their patronage. Highly recommend Willow & Spoon!

Warm and cosy, great food and coffee. We always enjoy going to Willow and Spoon for breakfast. You get a very friendly greeting when you walk in and your coffee comes quickly while you browse the menu. Everybody working there appears to enjoy what they do and it shows in their service and quality of food.<br/><br/>I love the corned beef dish I had a few months ago it was amazing but sadly isn't on the breakfast menu anymore. The pork belly is always sensational as is the poached eggs with haloumi.<br/><br/>I adore a great coffee in the morning and there are a couple of terrific places on the northside that we frequent but this place has it all. The food seals the deal and we enjoy the email offers and birthday promotions.<br/><br/> When we first visited Willow and Spoon we felt like we were in St Kilda or Brunswick, the décor is funky and is a nice escape from the other sterile cafes in the area. However I do hope they renovate the rear area in time, we much prefer the indoor area and love the aromas and conversation during service.<br/><br/>We will be back again and again. Thankyou Willow and Spoon :-)

Severely disappointed.. Had heard great things about this place and was impressed with the initial outside view. The waitress was incredibly friendly UNTIL she discovered that we only wanted coffee and wouldn't be giving her $21 for avacado on toast. After bringing us our scalding hot coffees without so much as a word we never saw her again. We had to let the coffees cool for 10 minutes and after trying for 20 minutes to suffer through the brown mess, we left. Will not be going there again if they serve coffee as bitter as this reviewer.
The Average Man
Too cool for school and doesn't do the basics - service and food.
Alison M
Cold bacon, cold corn bread - which when being walked to our table through the kitchen you could see had been pre-cooked. Also got half an avo for $4 - which I don't mind paying but it was very small & not ripe... On a positive note, the scrambled eggs were very tasty. $21 for a basic eggs & bacon on toast w/ avo - expect a lot better.
Lmaxwell1
Breakfast. Was terrible! They got our order wrong twice. Told us we had to vacate our table in 35mins due to another booking. Food was average and over priced! Don't know how this place won awards.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while. Thought an early Friday lunch would be a bit quieter time to go. Nope! Busy and quite loud in the front part of the cafe. Waiter was great very friendly and accommodating. I had the chilli garlic prawn Asian slaw yummy. Indian Chai with oat milk great to see a cafe offering an alternative to soy milk. However the Vanilla brûlée was not available they had just doled the lady one after I ordered it. The waiter was very apologetic. Although I do like chocolate I had the dark Lindt chocolate brownie yummy but way too rich.... I really wanted the brûlée!!! Maybe W & S should have more in stock as it wasn't even 1pm when I ordered the Brûlée!!!! So bit disappointed by that although they only charged the price of the brûlée for the brownie $1 less. Can see the food potential here maybe a tadpole variety however maybe a change in location they may have out grown that locale. Way too noisy forum liking....

Nice comfy place. Popped in mid-morning during the week and found it a nice place to be. Lots of tables for small groups and at the back you could seat a larger 10+ group. <br/><br/>Yes, you do need to walk thru the kitchen but not a big deal to get to the back. They have a little side room with two sofas which i will hit up next time i go. <br/><br/>They serve coffee with 2nd hand gifted travel spoons. A different touch which i like. Would ask next time for the coffee to be a little hotter. <br/><br/>If you are looking for a refined touch then think better places to go. I liked the rawness of the place which i believe have just turned 2yrs old?

Awesome Dinner! Awesome Place!. Been to Willow and Spoon many times for breakfast and just love the menu. Just had my first dinner experience and totally blown away.<br/>This place has lifted the Northern suburbs with what they are doing here. I think they have had 3 awards now and counting.<br/>Awesome lamb shanks, awesome service and awesome that they have BYO.<br/>Thanks for taking a risk in this place and creating Willow and Spoon.<br/>I tell everyone I meet about you guys, keep up the good work

I have never walked away from a cafe feeling more disappointed. I ordered a custom meal because I am a vegan -and nothing on the menu was suitable. I asked for avocado, toast and mushrooms. The food itself was fine. I mean I got what I ordered; no frills. Wouldn't have hurt to add a wedge of lemon or some herbs. In fact, the no frills approach would have been acceptable had it not been so expensive! I had mentally calculated $15 to cover the meal. But including my small long black I was charged $17.90! Definitely the most expensive avocado on toast I have ever had and certainly the least creative.

Cute and Yum!. What the previous reviewer thought was ugly and uncomfortable, we thought the underside of the old Queenslander with the back garden area was rather cute, and homey (in a good way.) I didn't at all mind walking through the kitchen--and you get to see what the area is like where your food is prepared (clean and busy!) Of course, we went for breakfast so we weren't expecting anything fancy, and I don't think it would be as nice of an atmosphere for dinner. Anyway, the food was yummy. I had the lentil and savoury mince with perfectly poached eggs. My hubs had the bacon, egg, and cornbread breakfast with an amazing apple/rhubarb (I think) compote on the side. The only negatives were that our coffees weren't quite hot enough and we were in the furthest table away out the back so service took a bit longer---but not bad. All in all we enjoyed, and I appreciate it when a cafe only has a select few items on the menu, usually its a sign that they know what they do well.
Ann
Felt ripped off!. Never walked away from a restaurant feeling ripped off before! We paid $32 for lamb and $15 for a dessert - a brownie, all while sitting in the garage between two parked cars - uneven concrete, stumps, the underside of a Queenslander. <br/>We booked at 6.30. At 8.30 they had another booking for our table. They bought us our bill without us asking at 8.25 and then sort of hovered until we left. Greed. Only four mains to choose from, one vegetarian. <br/>so if you're vegetarian you get no choice. Did I mention having to walk through the kitchen to get to our ugly dining spot?
N
Fantastic. This is my new favourite Breakfast/Brunch spot. <br/><br/>I stopped in last week with my sister for breakfast and loved the menu I had <br/><br/>The Royale (Red lentil & mirepoix ‘savoury mince’, pistachio stuffed <br/>mozzarella, poached eggs & Turkish bread)<br/>Everything was great and it came with perfectly soft poached eggs!!<br/>I had asked for avocado on the side but was told they weren't ripe so choose a different side for no charge. <br/>My Sister a very fussy eater and had the Willow and was very happy <br/>(quite rare! ) she said her scrambled eggs were perfect and the hand made butter was fantastic.<br/><br/>The staff are very welcoming and looked after us very well which was a bonus. A+ on all accounts

Lets go home. I had the pleasure of having lunch at the Willow and Spoon recently. It was a wonderful and unique dining experience. It felt like going home for something to eat. The vibe of the the place is so welcoming, the staff attentive and friendly, the service was outstanding. The food was deliciious with a variety of choices. You can sit out the back quietly and read your paper in peace in an arm chair fit for a king. If you want to be in the hub of it you can sit inside and feel like you are at Mums table waiting on delights untold coming from the kitchen. We both enjoyed our experience and will be going back. My husband felt the coffee was to die for. For a rustic experience Willow and spoon is a great place to eat that has had a lot of love and thought put into its being. Totally YUM!

What a great breakfast, tasty menu and the staff went out of there way to recognise my partners birthday. Will definitely become a regular

Just went there this morning. It was busy, but with good reason!<br/><br/>The royale (add bacon, please!) is my favourite so far, but my friend got the ava adore, and wouldn't even let me try any..! I'm ordering that one next week..<br/><br/>The service was friendly and attentive. I assume coffees can take a while to come out when it gets busy, as with every place, but ours were delivered only a few minutes after we ordered them.<br/><br/>Atmosphere was great out the back. :)<br/><br/><br/>I'm hankering to try the Greenwich, too!<br/><br/>Thank you Willow and Spoon! Relaxed atmosphere, great people, superb food.

Great food and friendly, real service. I had brunch (my breakfast after a ride at 11:30am on a Saturday) here today and it was divine. Staff were friendly, offered advice on the menu with real personal options rather than pushing a sale.<br/><br/>The chef here always makes amazing food, but they are also willing to tweak it a little for my dietary requirements. I feel like a welcome member of their family and love the relaxed vibe of W&S.<br/><br/>Will remain a favourite for me! Can't remember the name of my meal, but the lentil & vege 'mince' was yummo, plus eggs, mozzarella with a pistachio crumb...I added the mushrooms :)

Willow & Spoon are one of the best cafes Brisbane has to offer! The food is perfection the chef is obviously a genius. The staff are beautiful they are always so happy and delightful! Keith and Tracey are always making sure their customers feel welcomed and special. <br/>The coffee is great! This place doesn't disappoint!

I love coming to this place! Staff are always so friendly, menu is super creative, awesome coffee and best Chai tea in Brisbane. I will definitely be back. Best cafe on North Side for sure

New Menu!. Willow & Spoon is my local coffee/food/internet place, and I love it. The staff are fun and on it, and the food is so good -- it's always different whenever I go. Just tried the royale with crumbed mozzarella and a bite of my girlfriends raspberry/rose muesli from the new menu. I always feel thoroughly looked after when I am there, everyone is so welcoming. Its a great place for coffee and work (free wifi), and when friends and family come to Brisbane I always bring them here for long breakfasts in the backyard.

Closed at 1pm.. My partner and I went there on a Saturday at 1pm for lunch. We opened the door, walked into the crowded room and were greeted with the waitress who announced "Excuse me, we're closed". In such a small venue, a lot of the customers turned around to see who had dared to enter the restaurant at 1pm for lunch. We sheepishly walked out and turned back to see no closed sign on the door, and the waitress taking orders from somebody else. We were confused, and will not be attempting to go back.

Was looking forward to a nice breakfast on sunday after a busy week with my partner. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and taken out the back through the kitchen! Or table was on uneven concrete with uncomfortable chairs. Our tea came out fast but food took 45 minutes. Partners bacon was poor quality rashers and corn bread? We think it was gluten free bread. My Royale breakfast was cold with the lentil savour mince peppered with chunks of carrots couldn't get my fork into. Disappointing for $42. Thought I might get a coffee to go but didn't have a spare 30 minutes. The patrons here who rave about it must have veryow standards.

Great vibe. Really nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Loved the different takes on regular menu items. Kid friendly too. Will be back
Prue
Breakfast was tasteless, service was poor, forgot drinks. Not happy.
Reece
Service was poor, corn bread was not corn bread, thick shake was not thick, room they put us in was hot and stuffy facing the exhaust from an A/c, breakfast on the whole wasn't fantastic not going back
Rene Jayne
Not very good. They had run out of lots of things by 10.30 on a Sunday. A cup of tea took 30 minutes to arrive and food took close to an hour. I was so looking forward to coming but most likely won't be back. Sorry W&S.

Left me looking forward to brekkie. Called one evening when we were on that side of town after hearing rave reviews about their breakfasts. <br/>Were happy to hear they'd just started serving dinners (Thursday through Saturday, I believe). <br/>It was early, we were the first to arrive. The service was polite and eager to please, however we were the only ones there and ended up tucked in the front corner near the busy, and incredibly loud, major road. <br/>Upon inspection the menu looked well thought out and interesting. However, the prices felt a bit high considering the ambiance (maybe it was the lorry that almost hit me as I walked in...) But I'll give credit where credit is due, the ingredients had substance (organic, local, seasonal, etc) and the end result was sensational. I had the pan cooked fish (wild-caught barramundi) with potatoes and (I believe) sand crab meat and my wife the sirloin (note: they know how to cook a steak, so don't make the missus mistake and order it medium when you want rare). One suggestion to the owners: don't push the entrees so much, unless you want to advocate a share-plate environment. And if that is your goal, lower the prices so we could've order a few small plates and then perhaps a main to split - because $15-$20 an entree plus a $27+ main does not lend itself to us wanting to splash out and get a few things, it makes us order a main and pray it's good. Which it was. Thank you God.<br/>I look forward to breakfast. I'll just be sure to request a seat out the back.
Jacinta
I didn't mind this place- coffee was nice and so was my breakfast from the cabinet.<br/><br/>I may sound precious but the antique spoons felt a little dirty as they weren't polished and were rather tarnished.
Scuz86
Positives: different Brekky menu every month. High quality. Unique meals. <br/><br/>Negatives: getting to busy!! But that's not necessarily there fault
Amanda
Not bad. I met a friend here for coffee on a busy Saturday morning and ended up having brunch too. Unfortunately due to the amount of people, the only available table for two was on the other side of the kitchen in a gloomy passageway. It wouldn't do and I requested a change of seating, which was politely accommodated after a 10 minute wait.<br/><br/>The staff were friendly and the atmosphere of the place was warm and comfortable in spite of the crowd. Said business impeded on the timely delivery of food and coffee but we were too busy talking to worry overmuch about that. When they did arrive however, my latte was excellent, and the simple fare of bacon and poached eggs slid down very well indeed, even if the chefs were overly generous with the butter.
Nadine Ingram
Terrible, terrible coffee despite reviews indicating otherwise.cold bacon, soggy pork belly.<br/>The place needs a good scrub. <br/>Classic case of a captive audience.Nowhere else for miles.
The Mongoose.
Overall I have to say the food at willow and spoon was good, although we did not enjoy our meal there and would never go back, which should say allot for the atmosphere and service. I'm not sure what annoyed me more about this place the fact that we couldn't even order one of the meals without the smoked salmon because "They don't let you make changes to the menu" or the waitress who was clearly unaware of her age and put more effort into picking out an outfit that showed off her cleavage than making sure we enjoyed our meals. The whole place throws off a vibe that they are just trying too hard to be different and hip, so it is just an unpleasant place to eat. 3/10
Bean Round
Theres grungy and there's grotty. Came here for breakfast due to review in Gourmet and was really disappointed. Had to wait ages, coffee average, food average (and expensive for what it was). I'm all for turning old Queenslanders into eating spots as opposed to pristine building that are clearly purpose built, and most of the time it works well, ie Sassafras, but this place is just old and grotty. One toilet with a massive que that seriously needed to be updated
Kyle Green
Very nice food, friendly staff. Had a great time here for breakfast. Only down point is the price, but the other factors more than make up for it. Will definitely be going back.
Tastebudtastic
Cute place, super friendly staff and great outdoor dining space. the breaky menu is a little left of centre but in a good way. coffee was superb. probably a bit on the exy side for breaky in the suburbs as did not get much change from $50 for 2 meals and 3 coffees.
Jpcs
I don't get it either. I agree with a lot of the other reviews - this place is overpriced and over reaches with its menu. When I go out for breakfast I don't want edible flowers and pea puree, I want eggs and bacon!<br/>They've got personality but I think its so busy due to the fact there is actually NOTHING else around.
David Gerard
Great location and great food. when you look at how many they serve in their space, it is awesome!
TJ
Thumbs down.. I really wanted to like this place, but everything I had from the dinner menu was disappointing. There was nothing special about the mushrooms, zucchini flowers or croquettes. For $29 you receive two parts of lamb, one was done nicely and the other was not. The part that was not nice resembled leftover lamb pieces that had been squished together into a boring and dry block of meat. The main came with nothing but a jus which did barely revived the lamb of its dryness.
Steve Costello
Had breakfast here yesterday.firstly i like what this place is trying to achieve though i think it's missing the mark a little. Long waits probably because of the line which converts to exactly the same thing in the kitchen with dockets. I suggest table service as a better option because the front of house can control the pace of orders going into the kitchen. If people see you are busy they know that they could be waiting to get orders taken, give water and inform your customer of waits at that point if any, they might leave but it's better to be upfront then to get negative feedback etc. with the food I felt that the essentials of breakfast weren't covered, keep your style by all means but give the customer breakfast dishes. Beef cheeks are not and should never be served at breakfast, especially in a red wine sauce. A little no care with plating and a garnish of something wouldn't have gone astray. I don't mean to damage your rep but offer my advise as a fellow industry worker.
I Love Food
After hearing good things about this little place I was really excited to try their food out. We went for breakfast this morning and unfortunately did not meet our expectations. The wait for our food was incredibly long. We waited 50 minutes and even in a busy restaurant you should never wait that long. 3 of us didn't get everything that we ordered and my food was cold, not even warm. The staff are friendly and the coffee is great . As long time locals we were hoping to have a great restaurant with in walking distance especially that they aren't many restaurants to write home about on the north side . I just hope our experience today here was a once off.
Michelle
Last week my friends and I went to W&S for lunch and were totally impressed! we were welcomed with big smiling fun faces and treated like old friends...We love this place!! The food was amazing!! YUMMY!! This place is an absolute treasure, a quirky little home away from home where everyone makes you feel welcome. The place was buzzing with atmosphere and was a pleasure to be a part of it... This little kitchen has a BIG personality and their love for food shows in their creative and unique menu ;) Love it can't wait to try their dinner menu this weekend!!!! ;)
CAP
Very disappointed.. Today's Chef's Special was a Wagyu bruger at $19. What I got was a an average to small size burger, with no sides. The Pattie was extremely dense and lacked seasoning. The tomato jam was cold and cooled the pattie, the Fetta was lumped in a cube in the center of the pattie and the sauce was not able to be tasted. I am extremely disappointed with this venue and that I was the one who made the recommendation to go along to Willow and Spoon.

You can't use pork belly as bacon! Not happy!
Big Smile
Not sure I get it. Pork Belly was yummy. Coffee was fine too. Not sure I get the attraction though. Service was ok. Would like to see the staff and premises present a lot cleaner. Retro fixtures are a funky attraction and give a relaxed atmosphere. Can't help but wonder if there are uninvited critters lurking as well though.Owner had set up his office in the best seat in the house - laptop and paperwork spread on a lounge chair and table at the front of the cafe. Probably not the wisest way to treat your customers looking for a seat. The food display was partially covered by a sheet - why? It's only midday! Staff genuinely try to please. I was happy with my experience but I'm still not sure I get it.

We went for my aunts birthday and the menu was really limited and the cabinet had one sandwich option. Over priced for the suburbs too.

Love this place. Garden at the back is great for little ones. Breakfast great, unusual menu. Good coffee also

This lovely little place has been on my girlfriends and mine to do list for sometime. We finally booked for dinner. We were greated by a lovely man with a warm and welcoming smile, all the staff were lovely and knowledgable when it came to their menu. The beef cheek and taleggio croquettes for entree were my faves! Will def go back to this lovely place for breakfast, lunch, dinner.

This has become my own backyard. Living Inner city has taken away a few pleasures including a backyard to unwind in. Here I was settled overlooking tree and grass, in a cosy spot eating pecan pie and coffee. I will treasure this space as my own <br/><br/>Lovely food, each level of the pecan pie was the perfect match. Lovely coffee in the perfect sized cup. Only wish it came sooner as I had almost finished my pie before is arrival.<br/><br/>Can't wait to come back again.
Jon
Dinner time is great. I thought I would try them out for dinner as I've always enjoyed their breakfast in the past. The Beef cheek taleggio croquettes were a great entre. I had pan fried ocean trout for a main. It was great, but I tried a bit of my dining partners roasted lamb rack and wish I'd ordered that myself. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Didn't have room for desert, maybe I'll squeeze one in next time.

Weeping Willow. I chose to go to this cafe because of the talked up breakfast and free wi-fi. When I arrived I found a very limited but original menu to choose from. Food (Wellington & Fancy Bacon & Eggs) was a little sugary and really lacked the finesse you would expect to receive for the high price we payed. The seating was cool but the service was quite poor. The girl serving noted everything was 'Amazing' and I needn't worry about opening my wallet. I wouldn't normally write a complaint but that welly is still sitting funny in my belly. Disappointed and a little cheesed off, I don't think I will be returning here anytime soon.<br/><br/>P.s Bacon was so dry you would think it was jerky, only got through it with several cups of water.

Not a fan. We ate here for Saturday breakfast. My partner ordered Voodoo Chicken (southern-fried chicken with beans and salsa) and I ordered the smoked confit ocean trout with brioche and banana-lime jam. I also ordered an espresso. It was very busy so we waited for about 45 mins for our food and drink to arrive. When my espresso came out, it was extremely burnt, to the point of being undrinkable. When our food arrived, my partner's was fine, though somewhat bland. My meal was very strange, it came out in a jar and i had to ask a waitress (who had to check with the kitchen) on how to eat it. The biggest issue was that it had absolutely no taste or flavour, as well as being cold. I didn't finish it, and we both left unhappy with our experience.
BJSmith
Unsure. I am in two minds about this cafe. I liked the area out the back as it was sunny and warm on a winters morning and there was plenty of kids toys to keep our three year old entertained BUT the table and chairs we sat at were really awful. Looked and felt like the flimsiest set you could find at an opshop and were not comfortable.<br/>Food wise the 'la boheim' breakfast was nice and tasty with fresh ricotta and a great relish BUT did I really just pay $17 for what was essentially a spinach and cheese filo?<br/>Would I return if I had kids with me? Yes, overall it was a nice breakfast. Without kids? No, I can think of other great places where my $17 will stretch further.
Nat
Overrated. Headed to Willow and Spoon expecting great things given the high rating generally good reviews it's received here...<br/>Arrived to find the line stretching out the door and the place packed - usually a good sign. The decor is great - a mix of arty, grungy and homey...and a different look depending on where you're sitting. <br/><br/>After finding a table we then waited in line for almost half an hour! I understand that in theory counter service would be quicker than table service but if you've got that many people waiting it just isn't...I'd rather sit and wait than stand and continually have to move to let people in and out of the place and get out of the way of waiters with food and drink.<br/><br/>Can't fault the coffees - they came out quickly and were great. The food I'm not quite sold on. I had "The Willow" (from July's menu) and was a bit underwhelmed - for $17 I would have expected a little more: the poached eggs were overdone, the bacon was really fatty, and the corn bread was just ok. My friend had the "La Boheim", a veggie breakfast filo pastry, also $17. Neither meal was big enough or special enough to justify the price. <br/><br/>I think the place has great potential (or perhaps it's sadly gone down hill?) but not sure if I'd go back...
Cafe Junkie
Good experience but can be better. I've eaten here a few times now after discovering this place. It's a much welcome cafe in a somewhat average area. The service and food are great but I would consider it a bit on the expensive side considering the location, decor and the way this place presents itself. The outdoor area out the back is a great idea but could be so much better. If it was closed off and add a few plants and so forth it would add a lot more atmosphere as the current furniture out the back is cheap and flimsy. Also, every time I've been here so far there has been a sheet over half the display fridge next to the counter. This looks like crap. Get rid of it and fill the cabinet with something! As I said previously though, the food and service are great. I believe this place has a lot of potential I hope it only gets better. However the price they currently charge for food and drinks is about the same as other places with way better decor and in more cosmopolitan areas. And I'm sure this place has much cheaper rent.

Four out of four for us. This is the fourth time weve been, and we still like it. Odd layout, but theres a place just right here for you whether its the couches , tables out front or in the backyard. Unusual and interesting menu that changes monthly...we had the sweet jesus, a bread and butter pudding, the willow..classic bacon and eggs, a toasted almond croissant with icecream and syrup for the daughter (out of waffles), and fried chicken with a great salsa verde and beans for me. All cooked perfectly, and accompanies by some seriously good coffee. A little bit of a wait, but was worth it..I love that the food is nicer than your assumption of it from reading the menu. We will be back for sure.<br/><br/>Addit: Okay now Im getting disappointed with this place...do the childrens waffles on the menu actually exist??? Last time, our 7th visit, they were out of them again!! My poor daughter..who always tries to order them EVERYTIME we go ends up consistently disappointed. The last visit was her birthday too...she ended up having a boring muffin from the display case...<br/><br/>PLEASE either, remove the waffles from the menu, sub with pancakes or make up a fresh batter. Its not difficult Willow!! <br/><br/>Its for the kiddies!!

Love this place. Menu changes every month. Inventive breakfast menu that constantly changes.

Went here today and it was fantastic. Great service, great food and great company. Quirky and a great place for the kids. Will definitely be back!

Nice atmosphere, friendly staff but where do u get off charging $4.80 for a medium sized coffee which was pretty average. Disappointed.

You'll love it or hate it.. You could see this place as either;<br/>A) A dirty, make-shift cafe beneath a student sharehouse with an odd menu and even odder layout<br/>or<br/>B) A cute, suburban breakfast cafe with cosy, mismatched furniture, quirky breakfast options and wonderfully friendly staff.<br/>Let's just say this isn't a place you'd bring your Mother for a champagne breakfast but it is irresistibly cute and a lovely place to read a book or chew the fat over breakfast with a friend. Upon recommendation from the staff I got chai on my first visit and have been faithful to it ever since. Yes, the food is a little pricey but it's a new establishment and for the portion sizes it's pretty good value for money. Some of the couches are quite low which can make eating a bit of a challenge but it's this casualness that makes this place what it is. The staff always put a smile on my face and I never fail to leave chipper and smiley.

Greasy and bland. I too had heard great reviews about this place and been recommended by friends BUT my experience for Sunday breakfast today was awful. My scrambled eggs were watery and bland, my bacon tasted like it had been deep fried and was thrown on the plate in a big mess with massive fatty bits, I don't understand the equally as bland tomatoey lentils that came with it and my toast was ok but seriously not enough to take away from the rest of it! The coffee was OK but even that couldn't save the food. All of the poached eggs my friends ordered were overcooked. I think the only happy person at our table was a 10 year old who got waffles! The bacon repeated on me for a while after we left as I felt like I'd eaten a plate full of grease and we all decided that none of us would be returning. The shame about it all is that the staff were lovely and I really wanted to like this place! Don't bother.

First Impression Fail. Just returned from breakfast at Willow & Spoon. So disappointed! So many friends had recommended this place and it didn't live up to any of our expectations. Service was ok, but waiting over an hour for simple breakfast meals was completely ridiculous. The food was below average, featuring cold burnt toast and plenty of green leaves to cover the plate and hide the fact that there was very little of substance. The produce may be organic, but at almost $20 a pop, these small meals seemed way overpriced. The ambience and furnishings had a nice, quirky feel, but the backyard felt like a dump and safety hazard - just ask the small boy who nearly broke his leg falling through the cracks in the slat-bed carcass...

Sunday Brunch. Stopped in here for the first time on Sunday for Brunch.. it was just divine. From the outside it is quite unassuming, and inside/out the back it's like being in someone's house - but the food is unexpectedly good. Good coffee cemented the deal for me. Love this place, will definitely be coming back.

Sunday Breakfast. Stopped in for a lazy Sunday breakfast and very much enjoyed the friendly staff and eclectic feel of the place. All three of us had the Willow Breakfast - good but not amazing, nice mix of flavours though, and the coffee was nice.

On my 3 visits here, I've always left feeling content and happy. This is by far my favorite brunch spot in Brisbane (but I may be biased, being an Alderley local). The setup is welcoming and unpretentious (as are the amazing genuine, relaxed staff). Walk through the kitchen and say g'day to the hardworking kitchen crew, then enjoy what could best be described as a very Queensland-feeling 'back yard' area. The food is phenomenal, chef manages to fuse flavors together you'd never imagine (green chillies in Banana bread with olive yoghurt and pineapple?!?!? Just try it!!!). Or if your brunch tastes are simple and uncomplicated just head for 'The Willow' and be treated to a refreshing watermelon gazpacho to finish off. Plenty of choice for drinks, great coffee, locally made teas, organic Parker's fruit juices and Honest smoothies. Be patient when waiting for a table, there is plenty of space and it is yet to become 'one of THOSE' places where you have to line up for 30 mins to get a table. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Looking forward to seeing what the March menu will be!

Not sure why everyone raves about this place. Lack of table service is poor given the prices. It feels like eating in a run down student house and the outdoor area resembles an overgrown rental property. Food was average.

2017 Update - I think it's got a bit too precious for me. The brunch was frugal & a little bland (poached egg & zucchini). I ate an almond croissant to fill me up - not that great either, no almond filling just a croissant with a dusting of almonds. Meh. <br/><br/> Delicious but choose your spot. They do a good brunch, a little bit innovative & I like that but be sure to choose well where you sit. We reserved & ended up in a busy passage, which was cramped & noisy. It be good to have some choice offered. However NEXT time I'd take the initiative. Portions aren't huge but are deceptively filling.

Strange place, great staff. Visited for coffee and cake yesterday. The front of the coffee shop seems pretty standard - walking thru the kitchen to the outdoor area was weird.....pretty wacky out the back - feels like you're sitting underneath grandma's house in the garage....<br/>but the coffee was perfect! and the staff are lovely...

Interesting decor, walk through kitchen to get to outdoor area is concerning, food is fantastic!!

How this place got such a good rating surprises me. Drive the extra ten minutes down the road to grub street for a real treat. Food was average, presentation poor, no table service. This was probably the worst part of it as you had to walk back and forth through the kitchen and were constantly in someone's way whilst they were cooking or trying to bring out a meal. Changing to table service would surely please the kitchen staff as it's an accident waiting to happen.

Suburban amazement.. W&S is incredible. The staff are attentive and friendly - we call the walk from the front through to the seating area out the back "running the friendly gauntlet" because every staff member on your way through says hello/welcome/etc.<br/><br/>The menu is exciting and changes every month - this is good AND bad, because if you have a delicious meal, you'll have to rush back some time in the same month if you want to be sure you'll have the same meal again (and even then - some breakfast menu items sell out, particularly on weekends). But it also keeps me coming back month after month to discover the new menu. <br/><br/>Little bits and pieces here and there really set them apart from other places. In December they had Christmas presents for guests - a sealed lucky dip envelope that you have to bring back some time in January and open in front of the staff. I went there this morning and inside my sealed envelope was a free breakfast voucher! I'm also really looking forward to getting to one of their themed dinners some time this year. W&S is just excellent.

Fantastic food in the heart of Alderley. What a gem - my favourite place to have brekky with friends.

Willow and Spoon is my favourite place to eat on the Northside. The staff are lovely people, very welcoming and helpful. Crazy Diamonds are well worth a try, as is their unique take on rare-bit.

A Drunken Pig. Willow & Spoon gives a wonderful breakfast/brunch experience with quirky decor, happy and friendly service and imaginative dishes that somehow work! For brunch I had the 'Drunken Pig' with pork belly, walnuts & apple, green hash and fried egg and it was great! The green hash was perfectly crisp and crunchy on the outside and warm, soft and yummy inside. One of my friends had a cured ocean trout with fennel & juniper remoulade atop a herb brioche which she enjoyed. The meals are far from your standard bacon & egg or big breakfast varieties. Loved the coffee as well!
Food Glorious Food
Repeat. Been there several times now and still feel like going back <br/>My partner is not easy to please when it comes to eating out.very very very very rare that he suggests a place when eating out.but the last few times when asked to suggest a spot....he goes...let's go to willow and spoon!!<br/>Coffee is good, food is simple and yummy, salads are always good, but single portions seem too little<br/>Will go back unless something better comes along

Excellent Coffee in Northen Surburbs. Popped in for a takeaway coffee on Tuesday - superb! Just the right bitterness - great beans - great barista! If you're cruising through Alderley make sure you pull over, you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful. Had breakfast this morn for the first time at Willow and Spoon and it happened to be the first day of a new menu. All I can say is wow. My sister and I both had the museli with poached fruit which was a beautiful and tasty dish. The presentation was what you would expect in a high class restaurant. The edible flowers made the dish very pretty. Also enjoyed the organic tea available. Will definately be back.

Relaxed. If i think about it, this is probably how breakfast in the 'burbs should be... like sitting in someone's back yard. Because you, in fact, are. <br/><br/>Had the El Mariachi - great pork. Would be better without the taco shell.
Umm_blonde
Food was nice but we found the prices were too expensive for the lack of food. It cost $17 for a muffin with eggs and a sausage.

Went their for lunch today, friendly and attentive service, food was really good, the interior of the restaurant was just ideal, they have a delightful eating area out the back which is most private, you won't be disappointed with this delightful and cute restaurant.

Best bruschetta I've ever had. Everything is so fresh and the coffee is my favourite.<br/><br/>Recommend this one guys! Don't miss it

What a find!. Visited twice with a friend and we couldn't fault the food or service. I didn't try the coffee but my gf loved it. It was good not to be neglected as a tea drinker - fantastic quality and range. Brekky menu was small but creative and very tasty. There's a cool sitting area out the back (you can even play totem tennis). Can't wait to take hubby!

Amazingly good cafe, staff were so friendly and polite! Very reasonable prices and delicious food

Créme Brûlée French Toast. Unbelievable! Coffee is great too.

Awesome food and coffee! Definitely one of the best brekkie cafe in brisbane

Fantastic find in a tucked-away spot. I too discovered Willow and Spoon after seeing food editor Natascha Mirosch send a tweet about the new cafe. This morning I finally ventured past and had a quick take-away coffee and banana bread. The food was amazing and the service from the staff was delightful and cheery - perfect to raise the mood for a wintery Friday morning.

Willow and Spoon Alderley. How awesome that Brisbane is finally getting some cafe's in the burbs, it's fantastic and a long time coming. Melbourne here we come. Willow and Spoon is a new cafe in Alderley with a retro feel, fantastic coffee and friendly service. I had breakfast there and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly with golden runny yolks. We even got a free melting moment cookie during breakfast. It was prompt service and overall I rate it 5/5. Will def be visiting Willow and Spoon regularly

Yum!. Have been thrilled with this new cafe in Alderley. Brekkie menu is great but the best is to-die-for mushies and polenta. Service is friendly and prompt. If you can't find a seat inside don't forget to check the tables out the back including couch & kids entertainment basket - sweet relaxation! Can't wait for the christmas in july event.

The whole place has a great relaxed vibe :) <br/><br/>Love the pecan rolls and the breakky menu is amazing! I have to keep going back so I can have something different each time.

There’s something about quirky cafes that just makes me smile. I can instantly feel like I’m in a whole other world just with a few items of sheep pop art on the wall. Willow and Spoon is one such funky cafĂ© that takes retro kitsch and wears it with pride to ensure you know you’re at this particular cafĂ© and nowhere else. Situated on the suburb border of Windsor and Wilston, Willow and Spoon has made a name for itself for serving up creative meals made from fresh ingredients, sourced from local markets. We went to Willow and Spoon for a late Sunday breakfast and were instantly presented with funky menus attached to an old vinyl record- a brilliant way to upcycle.   We kicked off with a Flat White Coffee and an Indian Chai served on Oat Milk. This would have to be my first oat milk chai, and it worked really well. It had a more subtle taste than chai made on soy milk and made for a unique breakfast brew. While the menu was small at Willow and Spoon, it had a really nice array of options and everything listed looked absolutely mouth watering. We settled on: Seven Dwarves: Spicy Pulled Pork with Smashed Peas, Fried Egg on a Brioche Bun (with a side of haloumi) Snow White: Belgian Waffles with Ricotta, Passionfruit and Maple Syrup In case you’re wondering, all other menu options had other random fiction characters as names, we just happened to choose from the Brothers Grimm section. The spicy pulled pork was cooked beautifully though it could have done with a little more spice to live up to its name. It also came out on a normal bun rather than a brioche bun. The side of haloumi worked a treat with this dish and the smashed peas were a really nice touch. The Belgian waffles were truly faultless- I savoured every mouthful. I absolutely loved the light ricotta and tart passionfruit served on top of the hot crispy waffles. If you have a desire to get back in touch with your inner 70s wild child, Willow and Spoon provides a good space for you to do so. With a menu that ever
Table For 3 Thanks
Willow & Spoon is on Newmarket Road, nestled between residential properties so you feel like you have turned up to a friends house.  The back yard is set up with tables under umbrellas and a play area for the kids. The smell of coffee draws you in off the busy street to be welcomed with a smile and presented with an interesting (in a good way) breakfast menu.   I chose a dish with Cajun lime spiced ricotta on sourdough, mushrooms, bacon and a few poached eggs. Anthony had fried sardines Napolitana sauce, potato rosti and poached eggs as well. Both dishes were full of flavour and good size portions. Cooper was not feeling particularly adventurous so had vegemite on sourdough. There is a kids menu available at nine bucks a pop with waffles, bacon, eggs and toasted sandwiches. Service was friendly and the coffee was good. I’m sure we’ll be back.

I found myself here for the first time at Sunday brunch at the respectable time of 12.15pm. Just looking at the menu, I knew we had come to the right place. I usually don’t bother reading the menu from start to finish and let my eyes wander over the page until I see something that takes my fancy. At Willow and Spoon though, with additions like pistachio stuffed mozzarella, acacia jam and tomato-honey and garden pea sauce, I wanted to make sure that I went through every possible item on the menu before making my choice.
EAT SEE MEET
My experience was so great I wanted to come back with the whole family and try the famed breakfast menu I had heard of. The menu changes on a monthly basis so you best get in quick if anything here tickles your fancy. What we ended up ordering we could not have imagined as not only did it taste fabulous it looked great (for those of you who love visuals as much as I). The older kids also got stuck into the mud and totem tennis straight away and Ruby exclaimed "It's just like a house!" which is what I love about this place. It has that low key hanging out in your friend's backyard kind of feel to it.

I was smiling after my first bite of the pork belly. The meat was so soft, tender and flavourful.

i discovered willow & spoon on recommendation from natascha mirosch sending a tweet about it. owners/bus ptrs keith & tracey opened 3wks ago & the locals are loving it...so much so that they have decided to extend their opening days to 7. they use blue sky coffee with organic barambah milk, nine owls teas & focus on using local produce serving ala carte style breakfasts & lunches. keith also said that they will be running monthly them nights (1st friday of every mth)...the first will be christmas in july serving 4 courses @ $65pp byo. i love a them night! rub's & i shared the buttermilk pancakes w strawberries & vanilla cream - they were light, fluffy & delicious...my latte was also very good i liked the sound of their bfast special...goats cheese, beetroot relish w avocado, poached egg & rocket. follow them on facebook or on twitter

I decided to order 'The Stateside' which consisted of shredded pork, pumpkin puree, home-style beans and a fried egg.
Brisbane Devoured
I had "The Willow" breakfast, which was bacon and eggs, with toast and tomato with braised lentils. The lentils were fabulously delicous and full of flavour. My only complaint was another slice of bread to mop things up would have made the meal perfect.

There's something very Queensland about sitting in the cool, dim light on a patchy concrete floor surrounded by a forest of white painted concrete stumps and rabbit warren of multi-level, makeshift rooms. Generations of Queenslander's have grown up appreciating this ambiance, not because of its stylish appearance but for the sheer practicality of creating an extra space without much cost which is so much cooler in hot, steamy weather.
