Review The Bavarian - Brisbane

Afshin Loni
This place is not even close to a Bavarian restaurant, nice try though ;) The schnitzel was pretty dry and slatless. Basically there was no salt in anything. Beer was not cold enough and didn't taste good. I tried lager. Staff were nice and friendly though and the view was good. But for the price I do not recommend this.

Great atmosphere and friendly staff who helped accommodate us to a seating of our preference. There is an outdoor and indoor seating option, with stunning views of Brisbane river and Story Bridge. Food came out super fast, fresh, delicious and plentiful. We ordered pretzels, potato gems, pork knuckle, mashed potatoes and red sauerkraut --- all of which were delicious and hot. The bar was somewhat slower than the kitchen, and we received the wrong drinks a couple of times, but the staff were super friendly about correcting this. These issues may have been from how busy it was when we were there.

An awesome way to end the week and celebrate the year we’ve had with work friends and colleagues at @the.bavarian 🤩 . The start was a little rocky cos someone ordered 3 plates of kiddies meals for a table of hungry adults 😂🥴 . But soon after that, the arvo was back on track with beers flowing and the food platters eventually making their way to our tables. The pork belly dishes were pretty good, the bao with the perk belly in it was good too 👌🏻 . Super packed and buzzing atmosphere - thanks to everyone having end of year celebrations but all in all a great time with great people, a great view and good food 👌🏻🤤

Been in Brissy 3 days. This was the best dining experience by far and IMO the best gastropub on the river. We ordered the southern chicken platter for 2. Better than any Fried Chicken and Beer speciality restaurant in Brisbane. Service friendly and fast. Lovely sitting by the river too.
Nigel Baker
Great beer selection, and happy hour pricing is awesome. Service was excellent, and the views of the river aren't bad either. Great place for a cold pint with friends after work.

Great little spot. Food was hearty and filling and staff were very friendly. Not cheap but that's ok

Had such a lovely family birthday dinner. Customer service was fabulous. Thanks Alex, Alex, Lewis, Camilo the bartender, Courtney, Shannon & Hyana for making it a special evening. View of the bridge was brilliant, German and pop music mash up❤
Patrick
Pretty good value meals, awesome view, toilets nice and clean. Service could have been quicker, didn't bring entrees, it can out with mains. Staff very pleasant.

It was a busy Saturday, the service was really slow, and it seemed like the staff was exhausted.. anyway it wasn’t a good experience, even the food was not tasty and served cold :/

Food was great. Cocktails were disgusting. Worst mojito I’ve ever had, and the second worst espresso martini I’ve had in 10 years.

We went to Barvarian Beer Cafe on Tuesday 11/02/20 for a late lunch. The place was nearly empty being 2.30pm on a work day.<br/><br/>We ordered a $15 Uber Schnitzel special with $2 chips on the side, a cider and a mango beer. Our meal and drinks came out promptly. The meal was tasty, with the chicken being cooked perfectly, not dry at all. The parmesan and sundried tomatoes on the salad worked really well.<br/><br/>We had a nice view from our table, just a pity about the weather!

Floors outside were dangerously slippery and no signs were put out . I saw a boy slip and the a little girl slipped and hit her head extremely hard. We had no forks at table only knives. Music was loud so people were trying to talk over it and well that just made the whole environment to loud to hear anything. We had to go up 3 times to ask for a meal that wasn't delivered. Not impressed at all.

The wait staff were not very attentive and took a long time to attend to us. We waved for their attention many times and they looked straight through us. Asked two wait staff for water, both forgot so we hand to get it ourselves at the bar. Wait staff were rude when we enquired about the Sunday surcharge, as this was not indicated on their website or booking page. Had we known we would have reconsidered. Won’t be back sorry and wouldn’t recommend.

Nice priced meals. Large portions and delicious. Unfortunately the extremely poor service when placing my order will mean I will be trying out other places on my trip.

The Bavarian is part of a food chain group called Rockpool. They have been outed for systematic wage theft amounting to $1.6 million in one year to potentially $10 million. They charge the customer high end price, then under-pay the workers, as a business practice by falsifying time-sheet records. Dining there is amount to being a scab.<br/><br/>Search Sydney Morning Herald "Rockpool wage theft".

it’s one of the worst experience I’ve come across in a restaurant. we asked 3 different people in order to have someone to take the main menu order and give us share plates. however we end up having sticky plates which were used before with herbs and sauces on the bottom. the one in melbourne is totally nothing like that. i will not ever wanna come back here again.

First of all,it has an amazing ambience! We first ordered the drinks,i loved their beers!Coming to the food ,not really satisfied with the taste except for the squid and some fries! The squid was really yummy ,dint like the pork knuckle that much! They seem to be over priced, not worth the money because i still felt hungry after i left ! Overall a nice experience !

Meh. Usually this place is okay - pretty good. Food is usually very good and comes out when asked for.....except last night. First it took me 15 minutes to be served for drinks for me and my partner as the bar staff served ever other person before, even though I was there before most of them. And it wasn't even very busy, maybe the place was a third full and not many at the bar ordering. Then the beer keg ran out and needed to be changed and we were told the pint would be brought to us....15 minutes later my partner had to go and ask where it was. We were also told their highly sought after giant pretzels weren't available as they had run out. We eventally ordered the starter of chicken tenders and one jagerschnitzel main. I asked for them to come out together, but the tenders came out first, then 15 minutes later our colleagues had all their mains delivered and we were still waiting on our main. We had to ask when it would be coming and were told 5 minutes which turned into 10......when it arrived, it was good but missing the broccoli. Due to how long it was taking to get anything, food and drinks, I couldn't be bothered asking where the broccoli was. Would I come back? Probably. Would I recommend? Yes with warnings.

Good food and service, fair price with big dishes.<br/>Good view at day and night time.<br/><br/>Overall clearness have to improve, a little smelly on the menu.
Amanda Peereboom
A group of us went here on a Saturday night and we had the most fantastic experience, beautiful view and great service in particular from the manager. He was very attentive and made sure we were well looked after and seemed to really enjoy his job. The food came out really fast and was generous portions for a great price.  We will certainly be back many times!
Bénjamin Moorléy
In all my time going out to restaurants I've never had such a well serviced and delicious experience. Everything from the staff, to the food, to the manager was delightful and I would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a night out.
Rex
Good food, but worst service ever seen.<br/><br/>The food is good here, but due to rainy night, it is not crowded in the restaurant.<br/><br/>One of the waitress, when every time she served, I can see the impatient on her face, and the coolness. My friends and I were polite but she kept showing her impatience. For example, we asked her to bring a glass for water but no response after we told her for 20 minutes. We asked her for ordering a bottle of water but she was standing outside and keep talking and joking with another waitress. Excuses me? The restaurant now serving customer like this way? In the end, we told her we need to pay the bill and ask a plastic box for take away but gosh, no response even we are paying the bill.<br/><br/>When we told this to the manager in the restaurant, he seems felt nothing and we didn’t hear sorry from him mouth. <br/><br/>I think this is the worst service in the world I have ever seen.
Jay
Amazing platters allow you to try their delicious German sausages and pork. Highly recommend their pretzels. Sometimes they have the dessert pretzel on promotion too but the savoury one is the best yet so simple. Great view with fantastic menu and service.
Misha
A fun and lively place that plays good music. Been here numerous tines and the food is always great. The make-your-own salads are big and good for the price. The chicken schnitzels are also fairly big. Love the sausages.<br/>Would recommend and come again.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
Way too much for 2 people but it was still amazing. Got seats outside overlooking the brisbane river. Great kids meals to choose from as well. Overall, a very lovely atmosphere and great food and drinks.
Joe Thomas
My wife’s mash came out full of capers which was a surprise, not a good one. And the side of broccoli she asked for was cold. My schnitzel was ok, but nothing great. Beer was cold at least.
Maureen Livingstone
We booked a table here for dinner with friends, even on a midweek it’s very popular and a lot of people come here to dine and unwind after work. Orders were taken but after waiting for more than half an hour, our food hasn’t arrived. The manager on site was great, apologized that our food was taking longer than it should’ve been, gave us a complimentary plate of their famous pretzels and a bottle of wine. Their schnitzels are amazing and the famous crispy pork knuckle was just wow.
Nithin James
Perfect is the word I would use to describe the food and ambience here. The food is sooo delicious and the view is just awesome. Loved the BBQ Ribs and Pork Belly. They are a must try.
Rob
The Bavarian is a great spot with decent river city views, although I find I always drink way more than I planned too. The beer options are alright and they are very easy to drink in their big glass steins. On a typical Friday or Saturday night I find the place too busy from 6-9:30, although it thins out quite quickly after. The last time I was there I did try one of their burgers but got too drunk to remember if the food was any good.
Ryan
Enjoyed a great social meal here some time back. Was busy, had the selection board to share and it was great. Legit German style. This place goes off, one of the best spots for a social dinner in Brisbane.
Daleblyth
Pub grub with a European twist; go for the beer and stay for the view along the river. Service is lax.....
RocDoz
Lovely location overlooking the storey bridge and the Brisbane river. Food portions are very generous. We ordered the Munich platter and the sausage platter and couldn’t really finish it between the 4 of us. Great choice of beers as well.
Matt Cameron
Mates this is a top spot. Plenty of good food especially the Mac and cheese balls which are so good. Perfect place for arvo beers with colleagues or mates, the view is perfect and the 4-6pm happy hour every afternoon can’t be a bad thing.
Nick The Greek
Great selection of craft beers and beer stein sizes to suit everyone. If your game give the 1kg Schnitzel a go ....finish in an hour and it’s free ...good luck. Happy Hour every day 4-6pm.
Fork 'n' Spoon
After our hunt for a good roof top bar with lots of drinks under our belly, we started to get peckish and I got a hankering for a good schnitzel and german sausage. So we walked to Eagle Street Pier. This place was pumping and super busy. But unbelievably we were seated, had drinks and a meal without a long wait at all. This place does have an excellent view of The Story bridge and over to Kangaroo Point.<br/>We decided on the Munich Meat Platter for 2. Now, I was super hungry, but there was no way we could finish everything on that platter.<br/>Im normally not a sausage lover, but these german haus sausages were amazingly tasty! The sauerkraut was excellent, but the bier gravy was exceptional. Not overly strong, it was very much like a good quality jus, that just complimented all the meats on the platter.<br/>Pork Belly, Pork Knuckle... mmmmm, ok? Of course Johnk2154 had to order the large 1 litre stein of german beer!! We left with very full bellies!
Liza
The Bavarian never disappoints, and is exactly what you would expect.<br/><br/>Tasty Food, great service, and great beers, all alongside a wonderful view is a recipe for a great night.<br/><br/>On my last visit, we had a mix up with the bill as they charged us for bottled water we did not order, but once we let them know, they kindly took it off the bill.<br/><br/>My friends and i really enjoy it here!
Nigella4Ever
I'm giving Bavarian an extra point because their pretzels are amazing! Between 8 of us we ordered a wide range of dishes, from a simple schnitzel to a share tasting plate, and some calamari entrees. You can't fault the prices because the portions they dish out per person would satisfy a small family. This isn't something I want though, we had some big eaters at our table and they didn't even finish their meals. I just think it's a massive waste of food, and a bit old fashioned in thinking "bigger is better" <br/>I had a schnitzel and it was honestly the size of a large thong, it wasn't anything special, just "ok" I managed to eat 1/3 of it. I did try one of the calamari from my neighbours plate though and it was very tender and full of flavour. <br/>The reason I'm giving it such slow score is I'm sure that management needs to put on extra staff, the waiters I saw looked run off their feet, and the few bar staff that was there were wasting time with ridiculous cocktails while the line just grew longer and longer. We had several stuff ups with drinks orders, and at one point just had champagne plonked on the table (when the first time they brought it out they poured it for us) <br/>I don't know, Bavarians fun for after work drinks but I don't know if I'd bother with dinner again.<br/>

Been there several times and loved it! Amazing atmosphere and riverside views. The food is great and the service is good. Would highly recommend....<br/>
The Other Jenners
The Bavarian seems to be the go-to place for dudes. Went here as part of a Bucks Party where we gorged ourselves on the Munich Brewers Platter and many, many beers. Awesome vibe and view of the river, with friendly staff and lots of menu options. Personally, I prefer the German Club but in saying that, it's a gold option for German grub in the CBD. Would return for drinks.
Sean Slabbert
Looking for great authentic German beer and sausage experience? You could not do better in Germany! Loved the vibe, view of the waterfront, beer and tasting platters. Can highly recommend the Bavarian tasting platter and the sausage tasting platter. The pork belly was perfectly prepared.
Abigail Hocking
not quite authentic german but pretty close. amazing atmosphere and great food. and so many options on the menu too! very very cool place, highly recommend.
Richie Sam Oommen
One hell of a view for your meal, that's probably a good way to define this place. A very sumptous meal and drink is guaranteed here. Good place for a conversational lunch /dinner.
Maeve33
Place had a nice feel. Ordered vegetable cups and was very disappointed as this dish consisted of tofu in a spicy sauce with a bit of cabbage sitting in a lettuce cup. Soft drinks very reasonably priced.
Jessica Elizabeth
Meals are reasonably priced however the meal doesn't include chips, for the price you pay chips should be included. Average table service. Chicken cooked perfectly.
Hali
Tried the burgers. They were tasty and decently priced. Good for large groups, Bavarian has a busy and lively atmosphere with great views of the river.
Aaron
The Bavarian Bier Cafe has some of the best German food around... and great beer as well! Plenty of beer on tap and in the bottle to choose from. As a drinking spot alone it would be great with plenty of seating and space and top levels of cleanliness yet still a pub like ambience. But the food makes this place a must try. One of the platters with an assortment of sausage and schnitzel is a good place to start!
Jessica
Went for dinner with a group of friends on a recent Sunday night. We ordered an assortment of dishes and they arrived pretty quickly. My roast pork belly was a little overcooked and served with a mountain of sauerkraut. We all commented on how big the dishes were and felt bad wasting so much food. The service was great considering how busy it was. Good spot for a big night - but maybe share a meal unless you're really hungry!
Stephen Day
Love the meal but like most German restaurants in Australia they are over priced. It was a great place to enjoy the views of Brisbane river on our last night before going back to Melbourne
Linarenaelenõr
Busy busy area all stuff were so busy it was hard ti get attention but they were pretty friendly and well advised I had mango beer and something German strong beer 7-9% a/v They have variety of beer from tap or bottles Its just hard to pick what im gonna enjoy for tonight also food was good and extra brisbane river view is everything <br/>

My food experiences on Eagle Street Pier are mediocre at best. However as my carpark is across Eagle street pier and we were looking for a quick bite we decided to try the Bavarian. Great location and seemingly great menu. We walked in with many tables still available and we're told that if we didn't have a booking, table service didn't apply in quite a disinterested and uninviting manner. Not only did we not get order service, no one was available for questions about the meals. With the same lazy disinterested individual at the bar I ordered 2 kids meals, one came without the chips, even though the menu said it would. No apologies or anything. Just brought out the chips. Which is a pity. As the food is solid. My pork belly was perfect. Goes to show how poor service affects the experience. Hence no higher marks for the Bavarian.
Kimbo Slice
Great spot for a Friday lunch with a view of the brisbane river. Fantastic range of German beers and delicious lunch. Usually order a burger or the German sausages with sides.
Graeme Walls
Beer on tap is excellent and the food is half decent. <br/>Staff too juvenile and snooty.<br/>They should hire adults as the majority of the crowd are 10 years older than most of the staff.
Singh Dbag
Best experience for dinner I had. Good location and seeting and the view was awesome...... . ... .. <br/>.............................. . . . ............. ........ .........
Tiani Flynn
Poor service from manager and staff members. I have been here numerous times and the service never changes. I have been during lunch and dinner hours on busy and slow days and you just don't get quality service. I would rather go a couple of doors down to jade Buddha.

Came here for some hot wings and drinks after a long day. The wings hit the spot and the drinks were perfect. Also, great service! Recommended

So authentic. Fantastic atmosphere. Brilliant service. Breathtaking views and a brilliant seating configuration. We love this place and the very many options on the menu. So tasty and we have never have a bad experience. You definitely will not leave hungry! Love this place and recommend

I've come here many times with friends and family for dinner and beers - a good selection of tap beer by the way! The food is incredibly filling, I feel 5 kilos heavier each time I leave. <br/><br/>We started with the home made pretzels and butter which I really liked because I love bread and carbs, but my mum (who likes her food bland...) could not eat the pretzel because it was too salty for her. <br/><br/>We had a range of dishes (which i unfortunately forgot to take pictures of) such as the wagyu (I LOVED) and we also had one of the platters which had a range of German style meats and sausages with sauces, potato etc. Everything tasted great, especially with the braised cabbage and sauerkraut on the side (which i recommend for people who are used to having something pickled on the side - like kimchi for me). <br/><br/>We ended our meal with dessert (which only I ended up having because everyone else was too full) - chocolate fondant, apple strudel and black forest cake. Chocolate fondant and apple strudel were my favourite - ive never been fond of black forest anyway. <br/><br/>Great seating options, noisy on weekends which is expected, very busy. Waiters can sometimes seem to forget about you, but depends on the day and who is serving you - sometimes have been very pleasant, sometimes not so much.
Dominic Nguyen
Best vibes ! Bavarian bier cafe holds one of the best bars in Brisbane (in my opinion) the atmosphere of this place was insanely good ! The music, the view, ahh what can I say. I personally tried their Pork belly with Apple sauce and I was so amazed, I thought my mums pork belly was the best but ... They beat her I would highly recommend trying it !!! Thanks for having me.
Peruvian Palate
You're basically paying for the view. The food was barely edible. The jalapeño bagel was one of the worst things I've eaten in a long time. The bagel was bland and drenched in poor quality cheese that was under cooked. We were starving and couldn't finish the bagel it was that bad. We then waited for over an hour for our food. The burger patty was so dry it had to be drenched in sauce to be edible. The sausages were OK but won't be coming back for the food again. The view however is fantastic and the air con is soooo nice and cold if you sit inside which is a plus.
Arreksu
The Bavarian Beer Cafe was a great experience. The food was plentiful and the service fast. We got the share platter for 70 bucks and was massive with so much on it. Over at the table had the knuckle and were equally impressed. Definitely a place for meat eating enthusiasts as the vegetarian at our table was a bit disappointed with his tortellini. The German beer was delicious as was the lager tasting plate.
Gillian Edwards
Loved my cheese burger. They were very clear on booking that we only could have the table for 2 hrs which was fine after eating we got one of the other tables which are there just for drop ins. Great view looking out over the river.
CGradeCyclist
Came here with a group for our work Christmas party. Great venue! Brilliant position over the river with nice breezes. Food was good - both big & so smaller serve options (I had the pork knuckle which was huge!!). Plenty of beers & schnapps. Perfect for a relaxed & fun group function.
Dominic Svensson
Good food and views but quite expensive.  Big range of German foods - I've mainly had sausages, which are tasty.  You don't get a hell of a lot for $30-$40 meals though (once I had the "Giant Hotdog", whose modest size was an insult to any real Lederhosen-bursting Bavarian).  The German beers are also expensive.  However, it's good food and it's very pleasant to eat it outside overlooking the river.
S Fingers
that was the best pork knuckles we had , we order an "everything" platter for 2 and a salmon for one. That was more than enough for all 4 of us. The pork belly of so tender and crispy. And we later on ordered a taster of their various beers( not brewed on site , not as good as the sydney ones)
Jess
Beers are good and service is great. Food is so-so. The schnitzels are massive but underwhelmed on flavour and were quite expensive considering you only get a scoop of coleslaw "garnish" and are encouraged to get a side.
Sherry Yan
One of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. Been here three times at various occasions, food was so so, you need to wait for at least 40mins for a sausage to turn up. The service capacity does not meet the amount of customers all the time. They let you grab a beer but don't tell you all tables were reserved. For dining area, you cannot even sit for 20 mins for a quick after work drink just because you are not eating there. They have no system to control what time a table is reserved and how long is reserved for. Plenty of empty tables but can't even give a customer who bought some drinks to sit and have a nice drink! No system to control how many people are actually in the restaurant. . Should report to fire dept to check whether they have sufficient evacuation capacity or not through their doors. Very bad management and des not try to rectify issues. Their waitresses like bullies. The food and service you get does not even worth half of what you pay here. Won't come back again and will not recommend anyone to come. Banned.
Nez
Great place to come and celebrate with friends and loved ones. Food was delicious. Food was presented beautifully. Beer was great! Loved the atmosphere. Desserts were less than perfect. Black Forest cake was awful and the coffee really bad. Service was friendly. Prices reasonable but I didn't like that you only had two hours to eat your dinner and surrender the table.
Victoria
$15 for a beer during Oktoberfest when the menus said $12. One of the pretzels were cold, the other hot almost scorching hot so I don't know whether they're encouraging a pub fight among ourselves for the better pretzel. They had so many empty tables that were reserved and were told we could sit as long as we order anything to eat at all. We were then told by the bouncer there's nothing he can do and we can't sit while we're holding our beers walking around like lunatics looking for somewhere to sit our arses down (when there's so many empty tables!!). Had to stand the whole time while eating it was horrendous. <br/>
Eliza
One burger was so undercooked that we couldn't eat it, and the other was so flavourless that it wasn't worth eating. Overall, disappointing.
Zorks
WOW.... The wheels have falling of this joint without measure!!! Maybe a good piss up joint for a Batchelor party and that's it. The food has gone to shit!!<br/><br/>The famous pork knuckle arrived cold then sent back then the new one arrives cold then sent back!!! WTH the second one was still frozen in the middle. Really should be investigated as there seems there is serious problems here. <br/><br/>The table next to us ordered 5 knuckles then the same repeats return and return. These are not under cooked but still frozen in the middle. Serious concerns with this place. Cut the knuckle and check it first. Before you get sick!! <br/><br/>P.s the mangers were good at the time and we're just as surprised, but the way they handled it was very poor basically they were over come with the constant series of cold knuckles.<br/><br/>Don't eat here there are a lot better around the area that give a shit about service. <br/>
Hungrygirl
I have tried a few dishes here, I definitely wouldn't rave about most but the pork belly is delicious. It's pretty packed through the weekends though so if you want a sit down meal I'd suggest going throughout the week. It is a little pricey given that it's basically just a pub with a nice interior, but they have a great beer selection.
Mea
Been here multiple times and this is the second time I've been here for the 10c wings. The service was fast this time as the order for 103 wings has come within 10 minutes and it was spiced much better compare with last time. Definitely recommend the wings here as it is tender and juicy and the wings were not overcooked.
Chinook
Liked it. Come again. <br/>Good beer, sausage platter very good. Friendly helpful staff and a great location.
Nessa Tan
Enjoyed the view, food and beer, service was quick and nice, but once it got busier, the waiter seemed to be bogged down with too many tables and forgot our requests a few times, still really enjoyed everything.
Meatballs And Beef Cheeks
Great place to drink a giant 1-liter German beer and get your fill of schnitzel and pork belly.  I've been here for beers on a dozen occasions and had food a handful of times with nothing but positive experiences.
Slick Chef Extraordinaire. Gangster Of Food.
Pork knuckle was off the chain!!! Would come back just for that. Staff were friendly and the service was fast. Nice atmosphere and great beers.
Karen Armstrong
Just had a meal here, it was excellent. Full Bavarian Pork knuckle and pork belly meal. Spectacular, and the service from Scotich Ion made our night. He's a keeper. 👌🏻👍🏻

There’s nothing like matching a peckish stomach with a new craft beer and a few bites to cure your afternoon hunger woes says Ed+bK Drinks Alexander Stone. The Bavarian Bier Café in Brisbane’s Eagle Street Pier recently started brewing their own craft beers lines with a heavy lean towards pairing with food.
Sepp
This Bavarian got turned down at the 'Bavarian Beer Cafe' for wearing sandals. That's possibly the least Bavarian thing ever... apart from the "Southern Smoked BBQ Pork Belly" and the $12 beer...Jolecktsmiamoasch!
Espresso&Matcha
With our plan to try out new and interesting places for work lunches, after having Italian for our last meal, we decided that German would be quite an interesting change of taste. Noting that there weren't actually that many options in the CBD, we headed across the road and went to Bavarian Bier Cafe.
Erin Finlay
Got kicked off a table at 7pm because 'another booking was coming' no pre warning or reservation before we sat down. It's now 8pm and said table hasn't shown up- I suggest a better booking system before leaving paying customers in the cold
NG
Catastrophic place, they couldn't deliver a simple burger right. Improperly cooked stake for my girlfriend. This place is not worth coming for a food.
Brendan
To be honest I was not a huge fan of the Bavarian Bier Cafe. They do great alcohol and its novel to get it in a really large glass however their meals are tiny for what you have to pay for them and the vegetarian options are pretty basic. This place is pretty much just a fancier looking more expensive pub. The view was the only intriguing thing really. Probably won't go back.
Julian Andres
Worst place ever to take bookings and give options to clients who are walking by. Waitress are rude to the point that they rip off the menu from your hands and pointless Manager that just do nothing to manage the establishment with professionalism. If you are the MD of this place and reading this. I can double revenue of this place for you. First thing I will do is to lay off from the manager to the front line.
M&M
Always a great evening here, even through the loud music, and the bodies you know you're going to be in for an experience. <br/>We were seated almost straight away, we started with a Litre Stein each and my personal favourite- the pretzel! So good!!<br/>I then ordered the Brewers tasting plate and my partner, he ordered the Pork knuckle. <br/>Food was promptly brought to our table and the wait staff were happy to offer a refill without having to chase someone down.<br/>My plate was delish! Amazing pork belly and Blaukraut was great. The pork knuckle was tender but crispy and a huge serving. <br/><br/>Overall, the service, the food and the drinks was fantastic. Staff were friendly and tentative and thw food was prompt and flavourful. <br/>We had a fantastic evening.
Rebecca
Great views with good food but ok service. The mixed plate is a good option to get a bit of everything including sausage, pork belly and sauerkraut
Food Mm
Great food and beer but service can be slow and it can just get too busy here, especially on weekends. It can be hard to hear yourself talk. If you are looking for a party atmosphere with your meal, I would recommend
Marsionn
This place was nice and have a good menu. Ordered the platter for two and the half rack was burnt and dry. The other food on the platter was quite good, moist and flavourful. Besides the the half rack served, I would still recommend this place to others for the view, beers, atmosphere and the nice service.
WeAreHungry
Nice view and good food. The staff are really attentive as well. The dishes are kind of small and a bit overpriced. The environment is also a spot on.
The Food Oracle
Good food and excellent service. <br/>We went as a rowdy party of seven adults and two kids. We were very well looked after in a way that was attentive and friendly without being over bearing. This was my first time having real German food so I went for the pork knuckle (half). It was huge, I can't imagine eating a whole one. It was super yummy, really tender meat and salty crispy skin served with various condiments, mash, and sauerkraut. It was not cheap at $29, but because it was so huge an entree is not necessary which actually makes it a very affordable meal for Eagle Street Pier. Hubby had the Weiner Schnitzel, I thought it was rather average, he thought it was good but not great. <br/><br/>Shared the Black Forest cake for dessert, it was okay. The Cheesecake Shop makes a nicer one.<br/>I also really enjoyed my Vanilla Mule cocktail. We had a magnificent view of the Story Bridge, it is a nice place to come with friends for a hearty dinner and some yummy cocktails and biers.

Tried to pop in for a quick drink on a Wednesday afternoon however upon finding a table ourselves we were told to see the host at the front. She informed us that there were only a few tables allocated if you were not eating. These tables were all full however the main dining area was almost empty!! They essentially turned us away as they wouldn't let us sit in the dining area. Can't comment on much else as we didn't get the chance to experience it!!
Sara Hayward
We took our German friend here for his birthday and he gave it a thumbs up. We ordered a pretzel for entree and I found it to be extremely salty. For mains we ordered pork knuckle, sausage tasting and Swiss schnitzel. My husband and I didn't find our meals mind blowing but our German friend seemed to enjoy his pork knuckle which he said was cooked perfectly but could have done with more sauce and sauerkraut. The atmosphere is lovely and fun and our waitress was great. Not a bad place.

Came here on a Friday night with a group of friends for dinner and drinks. The place was bustling; the music was loud and the place was full of people. We were seated inside at a booth which still had a good view of the river; and our waiter came by promptly to take our drinks order as we perished the menu. We noticed there was a separate pad for making your own salad but funnily enough we ignored it and ordered the Munich Brewer's tasting, German sausage tasting, pork belly and a whole pork knuckle. We also ordered the meter long schnapps to kickstart our Friday night and then backed up with 1/2 beer each for the boys and cocktails for the girls. Food was tasty, the pork belly in the Munich Brewers tasting plate was more fat then meat which was a shame. The pork knuckle meat was tender and the crackling was crunchy! Cocktails were nice and German beer always tastes great. As a side note; after a while it was difficult to talk as the music was too loud and with so many people already talking in loud voices it became a challenge to be heard over the top of the general noise levels.

We had the bbq pork belly, mine was small but all meat, my husband's was double the size but when he cut into it, it was 90% fat.  It was late so we decided to just share instead of complaining.   My husband's company often have corporate lunches here, and apparently the food quality and quantity can vary greatly, even at the same table!   On the plus side, the food tastes good and there is usually enough to go around.  The view of the bridge and river is great too!

Great place for drink and food. The salmon was perfectly cooked. Good selection of german beers. The views over the story bridge are amazing.

Pork Knuckle was good, one of their classics. Crackle was extremely salty though (more than what you'd expect). Sauerkraut balanced the meal out quite well. Worth asking for additional gravy if treating yourself to a whole knuckle. Pretzel appetiser definitely a winner! Still confused why they charge 2% surcharge on VISA transactions, seems somewhat unnecessary...

Ordered the Munich platter on a Sunday night and was pleased with the generous serving and great flavours! Pork knuckle was slightly dry but otherwise the platter was nice. Definitely something to share between 2-3 people! Lychee ladies beer was also a hit, loved it!

Pork belly and pork knucle are the best in town! So taste and sooo big! Definitely worth the price. Match with beers and then relax cause you're in heaven!

The lovely sunny outlook of this restaurant is somewhat spoilt by the rather loud unst-unst thump of the music.<br/>The food was great however. We had the mixed platter which had ribs/pork belly/pulled pork and coleslaw. It was all delicious and went perfectly with the choice of beers.<br/>Service was friendly and efficient. <br/>Overall this place would be vastly improved by having some nice background music for the sunny laid back lunchtime crowd and keeping the party music for the evening club crowd.

Bit on the pricey side but the beer is good as is the food. The service is generally great and we normally don't have to wait long for a table. The portions are huge. Which is why I think you get a fair few groups of young men in there.

Great service, busy vibe and brilliant food and drinks. This place has it all. Awesome way to spend a Friday night with friends. Worth every cent.

Great place to catch up with friends over a good meal and german beers!  Tasting platter provides a tasty combination of pork belly, chicken schnitzel and several german sausages. Gotta recommend 1L Dunkel!. Plan ahead though as 1 bill per table
AteToooMuch
Great place for a pub meal and a few (or more) drinks. Don't come here on a first date, it's a place to be casual and just eat and drink. It's fun and the food is the perfect accompaniment to a nice beer! Pretty much anything pork is good.
Misscharlot
We started by sharing some pretzels, always amazing. Now we know the drill, plates are huge, if we are going in a group of 6, we only need two large platters to share.

This was my second visit, and the first since the new menus. The service was great! However the food wasn't. I ordered the half kg mussels and was rather disappointed. Almost 30-40% of the shells had no meat in them. My friend ordered the sausage platter, which he felt was very bland and lacking in flavour. It's still a great place to get a drink, but definitely not for food (with the new menus).
Danni
Excellent service, the Munich platter was great and good value for money! Desert was good too and the elderflower fizz cocktail! Busy for a Tuesday night too!

It's reasonably priced but I would not go there for a date or anything. Service isn't nice though all servers are very good looking. <br/><br/>Pork belly could have been a lot better. Skin wasn't crispy and the fat wasn't soft bought to belt into the mouth. The skin wasn't removed that made it challenging to cut it with a knife. <br/><br/>I would go there for sit down lunch or happy hour drinks but not for dinner.
Howgoodisfoodbut
Great for an after work beer or 5... Nice views of the bridge and friendly staff. Fun busy vibes.. Would recommend the Chicken Schnitzel Club Sandwich & The Pork belly!
Grub
Went with a group. Couldn't decide what I wanted - everything seemed either not enticing enough or too steep. Panic ordered a $30 schnitzel. Had to pay an extra $4 for a creamy mushroom gravy, which took about ten minutes to come out but was piping hot - enough to offset how cold my lumpy mash had gotten in the meantime. Schnitzel was good but way too big and a bit bland. Good choice of beers though. Pretzels are a good option though, you get two thirds through and hate yourself for how much butter you've just downed. Would come back for beers. Probably wouldn't eat here again unless it was a specials night.

Service was a little slow but the meal definitely enhanced my experience as the salmon was cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend Bavarian for a nice relaxing meal and drink.
Davski
Great location but extremely busy with lineups to get drinks taking around 30 minutes. The food is bland and tasteless which they seem to compensate by overloading your plate. I wouldn't recommend this place as their are many other nicer places in the eagle st area.
A Little Bit Of A Foodie
This place never disappoints!! Amazing beer and amazing food! Can't go past the tasting plate and if your feeling up to it a plank of schnapps!!
MynameisFood.
I would have to say that Bavarian Bier does a kick in serving classic German dishes, big portions, beers ranging from 300ml - 1 litre, fabulous views, the Story Bridge lighting up at night as a backdrop, fresh air, comfortable seatings may it be at the bar or a more booth feeling or maybe a date night, whatever it is, just remember to come in with a not-so-full tummy since I assure you, by the time you leave, your tummy will be filled right to satisfaction. Located above Grill'd, opposite Pony and next to Sake, it definitely had its spot with occupying a very big space in the upper level of the precinct.

Pretty good food!! The pork knuckle and sausages are probably the closest to the ones I had in Germany. Good value here for food. Love the beer steins and schnapps (especially the butterscotch one!!). Come hungry as the portions are massive!
Kvanders
I do love this place but the last time I've been here on a Sunday or Monday they run out of pretzels and pork knuckle and a lot of other food. Their food gets delivered every Tuesday so not good to go on the days leading up to this. When they're always running out of pretzels, why not order more?

Went for lunch with my work mates. Great ambience and great view of the Brisbane River. We went bang on lunchtime so it wasn't busy :)<br/>I had the chicken schnitzel club burger which had a great combination of avocado, bacon and aioli. Only bad thing was that the service was a bit slow to start.
Anita Weiss Leone
All my favourite foods and drinks served in the one place! Love the schnapps, schnitzel, sausage and strudel. Great atmosphere, awesome view, good service and not badly priced. Only criticism (if any) it can get a bit rowdy especially after 1 meter of schnapps! Yummo!

Decent food and great atmosphere. Dined here a couple of times - you can't go too wrong with the schnitzel and sausages but it's the beers that keep bringing me back. Service is good and music keeps it lively.

With several restaurants around Sydney, and a couple of them up in Queensland, the Bavarain Bier Cafe has introduced an outlet for Australia to engage in the celebration of Bavrain culture that other major cities actively take part in. In only a few short years, the destination in Brisbane's central area has become really popular with both locals and tourists<br/><br/>Taking advantage of being on the top floor of one of the pier buildings, this restaurant is huge. I mean, very big. When my friend and I had arrived, we inadvertently had entered at the back of the restaurant. This space around the back is certainly needed, as there is plenty of seating within the main part of the restaurant, spilling onto the balcony. Tables are everywhere, and plenty of cases are freestanding just to contain the many glasses of beer that will be drunk from. <br/><br/>Looking outside, there is a great, panoramic view of the Story Bridge, river and the northern skyline. This is the definition of dining with a view. When it gets to night time and the city lights turn on, then you are in for a treat. It truly comes alive and transforms into a must-do experience. Bookings may be required to get into this place as it is guaranteed to be nearly full; my friend and I got in with a stroke of luck during the Friday lunch rush merely walking in. <br/><br/>The atmosphere has a partial hint towards the beer hall experience, albeit having a more upmarket aesthetic. That means it can get rowdy inside. In saying that, they take beers seriously here hence their namesake. Tasting platters of different beers can be purchased, with each beer being given a due description. If that is not your thing, there are also quite a few varieites of schnapps available. It all centres around a giant bar. <br/><br/>Taking a deep influence from the Bavarian region of Germany, the idea is to present some of the most authentic and traditional fare possible. It is not recommended for vegetarians in any way; meat of all kinds rules the roost on the menu. One touch I personally like is how they put the sections in the German language. There are different sizes of dishes to accomodate to varying degrees of appetite, and whatever the degree is it shall be satiated. While they still keep up the philosophy behind Bavraian cooking, there was been a recent tweak to the menu. Now it is in two sections, one for more modern fare, and the remaining ones who like their traditional classics. <br/><br/>Meeting a friend of mine after work, she was keen for going to lunch. Again, she is not the finicky type therefore almost anything was a-go for her. One aspect that was the deciding factor was that I had a huge apetite, and German cuisine is often a suitable candidate for that. Also, this place is one of the most reputatble and popular destinations of the inner city. Thus, it was off the to the Bavarain Bier Cafe. <br/><br/>With such a loud crowd to please, and many whims to attend to, it can only be assumed that the service would be really good. This lot of waitstaff were some of the hardest working that I have seen in a very long time. Looking back on it, sometimes the most busy restaurants have the most willing waiters to please who manage to tune into the smaller aspects of a meal' service, including refilling water which happened quite a bit. <br/><br/>Starting out with drinks, they also manage to do coffee here and I ordered the usual doppio. Beans used in the coffee are organic, and are from Vittoria. This coffee was quite good, a strong little number that did everything right. It had the typical astringent taste, was dark in tone and quite hot. <br/><br/>Scanning the menu, all sorts of the dishes looked tempting and delicious. Particularly so were many of the innovative, less pricey moderI ultimately ended up ordering the "Bavarian Tasting Platter". This was a good value choice, giving a bit of everything often associated with eating in Germany. It will satisy any carnivore out there with an array consisting of: a cut of pork belly, crumbed veal schnitzel, four different kinds of sausages, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and mashed potato, with apple compote and a bier jus on the side. Did I mention I was feeling hungry?<br/><br/>For sheer volume of food, it is hard to go wrong with the platter. It was every bit tasty and delicious as one could hope for; all of the flavours were pure and simple. Starting off with what impressed me the most initially, the pork belly was probably the most beautifully cooked and present piece that I have ever had the pleasure to eat. It was made from a tender cut of meat, had a generous lot of buttery fat that went down a treat and the crackling was almost its own identity. It was really crunchy and had a distinct form. <br/><br/>The schnitzel was also pleasant, using a tenderised cut of veal and being very well crumbed. With the sausages, the ones provided were a numberger (small pork sausage, with herbs, spice and majoram), a thuringer (another pork sausage, herbed and with caraway seeds) and two frankfurters, a classic beef-pork sausage. Each of these were pure in taste, using only good quality meat. They were smoked well and tender, no nasty bits to be found at all. That always equals a plus for sausages. <br/><br/>The sides were all good, sauerkraut is sauerkraut - and I happen to like it, plus the red cabbage was basically a red-coloured sauerkraut itself, albeit with a different flavour. The potato was smooth, very creamy and went down well. It had a generous amount of butter mixed right through it. Both the bier jus and the apple compote - which was made from Granny Smith apples - both provided the right amount of extra flavour and seasoning to the meal. They were not ostentatious, contrasting well with the flavours as opposed to overpowering them. <br/><br/>My friend was not feeling as hungry as I was, and thus went for one of the lighter meal options. Fortunately, she is also a sharer so a bit of food swapping went between the plates. Her meal was a mozzarella and speck sandwich which came with a side of fries. This came from the modern section. From the bite that I had of the sandwich, it was also quite good. The bread that they used was a good quality wholemeal which makes a heap of difference. Both the speck and mozerella were delicious and a good combination. It goes without saying that the fries were also good. <br/><br/>Afterwards, there was the discussion of finishing the meal with a dessert order. It was decided a yes. For this course, it is smaller than the other menus so not as much indecision is apparent. Still though, you know it is good when there is a small array of options and it is still hard to select from them. Regardless, the two of us ended up splitting an order of the doughnuts. These were basic cinnamon doughnuts, and they came with a couple of dipping sauces - spiced chocolate sauce and strawberry coulis. They were a good way to finish off the meal. The chocolate sauce was rich and semi-chunky, with the strawberry being semi-sweet. Of course, the chocolate was naturally the better of the two. Heck, even the cinnamon had a bite of flavour on the hand-made doughnuts. <br/><br/>There is no mistaking the popularity of the Bavarian Bier Cafe; it has the location, the views, the good quality, generous foods, the atmosphere and it definitely has the service. It can be safely said that it is worthy of the reputation that it has.

Went here for a birthday and had heard mixed opinions. There was so much food for the group and it tasted really good, even though I couldn't move after eating that much. A great selection of beers as you would expect and the service was friendly. Would definitely come back for an event or a casual drink.

Wrong entree was brought to the table. Smokey BBQ pork belly arrived as main and was hardly warm. Would have been a lovely meal if it had been heated.

Regret coming a 2nd time. We had such a good brekkie the first time we came here 6 months ago that when my sister was visiting we headed here.<br/>we were the only patrons. I know why now.<br/>had to order and prepay at the bar....again, we were the only customers.<br/>our scrambled egg with hamhock had flabby bacon subbed for the hamhock. Look i dont mind if a restaurant runs out of stuff but at least ask your customer if a sub is ok. As wed ordered a side of bacon, we would have chosen something else. It was too salty And watery too.<br/>The side of bacon had been deep fried. Deep fried. How totally lazy.<br/>mushrooms were ok, coffee just ok.<br/>no follow up from waitstaff as to our liking of our meal.<br/>lazy cook, lazy service. Wont return and wont recommend.<br/>cant understand the difference in quality between our first and second visits other than a new chef whose not as good or has no carefactor.

Too big....couldn't eat it all.

Food was good. But then got kicked off our table early and then some rude ass of a waiter was very uncaring to us. Learn some manners u imbecile. Worst service in Brisbane. Would rather go to cha cha char downstairs.

Delicious!. Great value - portion sizes were awesome, couldn't even finish, menu was fantastic, great atmosphere and service. <br/><br/>Ordered the boneless ribs, pork belly, a platter and the whole pork knuckle... We were very happy! <br/><br/>Thanks a lot!

Meat, Delicious Salty Food, Beer. If you like the ingredients of 1. beer 2. meat then you are going to have a good time here. Prices are not cheap, but you are paying for atmosphere. Loud atmosphere not suited for those looking to dine in peace. Go with friends, have a great time.

Awesome service - our waiter (Nil I think?) introduced himself as soon as we sat down and made us very comfortable. We went for a birthday and ordered a variety of food, all of which was fantastic - calamari melted in your mouth, pork knuckle and pork belly had an amazing crackle, sausages were full of flavor and were accompanied by a perfect mash, schnitzels were not AS amazing but were still damn tasty. All the portions were huge, good value for the amount we paid. Birthday boy got a free shot at the end of the night and a free glass of schnapps. He also managed to get a discount with his L card (uni). Overall had an incredible experience dining with a great view, and definitely would return for another Deutsch night.

Disappointed this time. Have been there before and it was ok but this time ordered the 500 g boneless ribs and was served about 200 grams of boned ribs. Very poor meal for the price. The drinks were overpriced and the seating although having a great view was very uncomfortable. We will never come back as it was overpriced for what it was.

Awesome customer service. Ordered the atlantic salmon fillet which was cooked really well except for the fact that the fish had a funny taste to it (on it's way off perhaps?). When the waitor asked how my meal was I explained this to him and he immediately offered to take the meal off the bill. He also asked if I was still hungry and wanted anymore food. I was really impressed with how this situation was handled as most places just say 'you should have told us earlier and we would have replaced your meal'. Thanks guys, will definitely be back :)

We enjoyed a great evening at the Bavarian Bier Cafe. The view of the Story Bridge is beautiful and the food, drinks and service that we received was faultless. We would definitely recommend.

Great food and ladies night Thursday!. Loving 2 for 1 cocktails Thursday nights! Great food, pork knuckle is ah mazing, big sizes, decent price for the quality,. Friendly staff and great view

A beer pub that limits seating unless you are eating. Fake pub that's really a restaurant. Get lost!

We recently went with friends and got the mixed platter for 2. We also ordered a side of potato salad. The four of us were not able to eat it all. The pork knuckle was so tender and totally surrounded by crisp pork crackling. There was also sausGes with mash, 2 schnitzels, pork belly and a pork terrine. We all enjoyed every item and would highly recommend it....but I doubt 2 people could eat it all.

Good for drinks with friends - But please stop ringing the cow bell!!!. Went here over the weekend with friends and it was PACKED! We had a booking but had arrived early so had a few drinks prior to being seated. My food (schnitzel) was average and very dry, fortunately everyone else I was dining with really enjoyed their food. The staff were lovely, though the ringing cow bell when anyone in the place ordered shots (even just one) got VERY ANNOYING! Even for just one shot they would bring the shot to the table ringing a cow bell through the place - fine for a number, but for one!?

A taste of the homeland. Coming from a German family I have large expectations. Bavarian Beer Cafe isn't so much bursting with authenticity but it's fulfilling and festive. The flavoured beers prove an interesting dinner date and when Germany won the world cup the 500ml beers were the same cost as the 300ml which was a nice celebratory touch. The staff are always eager to please and happy to recommend tasty beers. If only for the beers and the excellent river view it's a great place to celebrate your heritage.

Not so much German, but they do have beer. Alright. Dinner at the bavarian beer cafe in Brisbane. Not much is open on a Sunday night there in the CBD. (But the weather is nice for a winter day, ... )<br/><br/>Overall I can’t give the place the thumbs up, but it isn't terrible. And if u just wanna drink German beer and have a good time, you may as well enjoy and skip the rest of this review. (Assuming that’s most customers motivation)<br/><br/>If you after decent german food you may wanna keep reading! <br/><br/>“German beer cafe”... I wonder who came up with that name, but I doubt it was a bavarian. Cafes in Germany do serve beer, but mainly are hangouts for folks, with same minor or major weight problems, that also have 2/3 of their life behind them, stuffing themselves with torte and cakes. Cafes are not pub style restaurants and putting “beer” or “bavarian” in front of the name doesn't make it any better but rather more presumptuous.<br/><br/>So - except for marketing purposes - I really wonder if this chain has any real german (or bavarian) heritage at all. <br/><br/>But nevertheless, that would not be any problem at all if their food is any good. Looking at their menu I can see some bavarian items. Again only very commonly known ones, but there are also some modern Australian dishes on the menu. (oysters, salt&pepper squid,.. what every child eats for Christmas in bavaria ;) )<br/><br/>I went with goulash and Rösti for the main, listed as one of their specialities. What the menu didn’t say - and the waiter, being french, couldn't be bothered to mention that when I ordered - the Rösti are basically are a garnish, not a side. It’s like if you order a schnitzel with fries, you’d be pissed if you got a big schnitzel with 4 fries, ... . So what I got was big bowl of goulash with 2 miniature Rösti, which are basically something like pan fried hash brownies in this case. In Germany a range of potato dishes can fit that description, depending on the area you are from. In any case this would not be a typical side for a goulash. <br/><br/>However, to compensate, I ordered two sides, which came out promptly: Blaukraut/Red cabbage and creamy potato mash, which was recommended by the waiter. <br/><br/>So what’s the ruling on the food: The mash was ok, not as smooth as it could be (particular for as per the menu “creamy” mash), but it was enjoyable. The red cabbage had a good flavour and was spiced quite right, but they managed to overcook it quite badly. It was more mashy than the potato mash and that’s a big mess up. A red cabbage cooked well can be such a beautiful thing. It’s also quite hard to screw up, as it takes a long time to cook. (I.e. it doesn’t overcook within a few minutes, ... )<br/><br/>The main dish - the goulash - was again flavoured well, but wasn’t really a goulash. It was listed as one of their specialities - a veal goulash. Goulash is first of all a hungarian dish (commonly done in Germany though), but then it’s sort of slow cooked, melt in you mouth, dicy chunky peaces of meat in a dense tomato/gravy source (and I do apologies if I don’t do the real goulash justice with this description). It is also somewhat hot. (normally includes hot paprika flavours)<br/>What I had here was tiny (for a goulash) pieces of veal, that were a bit dry, in an massive amount of source, with a bit to much cream for a goulash and not hot and any bite at all. <br/>They do have a goulash soup on the menu, but what I had there as the actual “goulash” was quite like what I expect a goulash soup would be.<br/><br/>Desert: Black forest cake, the only desert with a “home made” remark on the menu: That was actually enjoyable, but wasn't the most typical black forest cake I’d say. Also for reference the back forest is not in bavaria, but this dish would be at least suitable for cafe style place in Germany,... so half way there ;). <br/><br/>So overall I’d say as “food” it was ok-ish, definitely not terrible. The red cabbage was sadly not eatable, the rest was a solid ok.<br/><br/>To be fair, they inquired how everything was and after I said “ok” they wanted to know details. I kindly explained what I thought the shortcomings were (me being German couldn't wave that off ;) ) and after that waitress spoke with the cook, they deducted the red cabbage. <br/><br/>I still can’t really excuse them much, cause red cabbage you cook in big bunches: Did any cook tried it at all? That was so obviously mash and not right. Who decided to serve that anyway, .... ?<br/> <br/>Bottom line: I may come back once to see if their red cabbage is any better at other days and I may try their custom butchered german sausages and see if those are any decent. I might update this review then.<br/><br/>I remember trying a German beer cafe in Sydney a few years back. Me or my partner had sausages there, I think. As little as I can recall I (and that basically tells the story) it wasn’t much to remember - not terrible, but not impressive either. <br/><br/>So basically the place is worth it for the German beer, everything else is not that German, but you may enjoy it, but be cautious!<br/><br/>In regards to Urbanspoon rating: I would give around 6/10 on that scale. Here it s 80%, ... that relates into thumbs down,... sorry. I do enjoy good food and I am very happy acknowledge if I come across it!<br/><br/>(PS: I am German, grown up in Germany and lived there till my mid twenties. I migrated to Australia 10 years ago. So I do know German food, but also understand the Australia food landscape reasonably well, having lived 5 years in Syndey, 5 in Melbourne, spend lot of time in Perth and recently moved to Brisbane )

6/10. We started sharing some pretzels which came out piping hot and fluffy inside, the mains were a different story. Very mixed reviews from the main meals. I tried my friends pork belly which was amazing, as was the taster plate her boyfriend ordered but I got the sausage platter which wasn't good at all. I assumed I would be getting some nice bratwurst and other traditional German sausages. It came out with two very dry chicken sausages and a kransky that was full of what tasted like melted plastic cheese. Really wasn't happy with my meal and neither was another friend who'd ordered the schnitzel, he said he'd had better at a pub.

Top location. Went for a week day lunch and was stoked with the location. Sun, water, view. Very nice. Friend had a Caesar salad which was massive. She liked it. I had the Swiss Schnitzel. Not usually a fan of big meals but I expected this to be bigger then what it was. Call me silly but sometimes I want a schnitzel where I struggle to get through it, but this was a breeze. Would be keen to try the giant pork schnitzel just to see how big it was. The hot dogs and burgers that went out to other tables looked good with the chips in the little frying basket.
Karllage
Average overpriced food. We were 3 for dinner and paid $200 for 3 mains, 1 dessert, 3 beers, 2 cokes and 2 schnapps. Who is kidding who? The taste was very average, not genuine german in my opinion. very small portions of sauerkraut.

Wonderful for a Birthday treat. Landed here for a 79th birthday, his choice. He could not be happier with the ambience and offerings on the day. Not my call. But it made for a very smiley Birthday boy ( and he was not the only one) .
Ronin47
Solid European food. Tried this after eating it in Sydney. Difference is the great outlook (no windows) although the winds were up tonight so it got quite cool. Ate a variety of dishes - I had the Bavarian tasting plate which was pricey since you got the variety but not huge portions of each thing you were trying given that this food is not inherently expensive.<br/><br/>Everybody happy with their food especially the sausages which the Germans do well. Service was OK but out waitress a bit inexperienced. Thankfully no surcharge on the public holiday.

Would recommend booking early for seats outside overlooking the river as the cool fresh air would have been amazing.

Ok but. Met some friends here for drinks, we had some sausages which were ok but nothing special. The view is excellent but make sure you book or you'll get stuck in a table at the back
Quinton Hallucination
Only for an occaisional treat.... A sensational location by the river but marred by bad service and overpriced beer. The food itself is very good; top quality and generously portioned. I had the the pork roll, which is absolute perfection on a plate. However I did feel very naughty / indulgent paying $20.00 for what is basically a sandwich.

Great service!. Had a lovely night at the Bavarian last night. Good food, good drinks and always a fun atmosphere for a Friday night. But, more than that, we loved the excellent bar service we got yesterday from Auriane. She was absolutely lovely, letting us practice our terrible german and walking our shots around the bar a few times before bringing them to our table because we told her we liked to hear the bell ring! If you ever see this Auriane, then thanks for making our night extra fun!!

Don't bother Waited over 45.... Don't bother<br/>Waited over 45 mins for a burger and the place was nearly empty. Staff ignored us and did not even give us water after having to ask for it... All round - staff =sad pathetic food=mediocre. There are so many other good places in Brisbane so giver his one a miss

Ich Liebte Es. As the title says, I loved it. I was looking for the complete Bavarian experience and this restaurant delivered.<br/><br/>The food was cooked to perfection and was very authentic. We ordered the tasting platter and it did not disappoint. We originally ordered it for 3 people, but the waiter was kind enough to suggest a platter for two people as it would be too much food - he was not wrong. I had an out of body experience caused by all the meat I consumed. Then there was the sauerkraut and red cabbage, I can not think of a better fermented vegetable.<br/><br/>The setting and location was also excellent. It has a great vibe, and is a nice replacement to the Rugby Club of old.<br/><br/>I will return.

Great beer, great German food, wonderful views and brilliant staff

Super Service!!!. We had our staff party here at the end of the year. There were around 20 of us and we loved our greeting. It was all smiles and 5 star treatment as we sat on two large tables overlooking the Story Bridge. Our waitress was simply the best. The food was good and we sampled all the platters and loved the lot. The guys at the Bavarian who looked after were great. Thanks to everyone at the Bavarian for making our party the most memorable one to to date.... Highly recommended venue!!!
Southern Belle
A casual lunch but service was appalling. We entered and no staff visible so we continued to walk in, to the other side of the restaurant to locate a staff member who was free. We were requested to return to the empty entrance where we would be served, not an attractive introduction for customers. Eventually a staff member appeared, who proceeded to escort us once again to the other side of the restaurant (which wasn't full) to a table. Our wooden table was sticky and dirty & needed a good wipe, observing another table being cleared the wipe down looked inadequate. Plenty of beer on offer, not many wines, middling prices. Our Food was average quality, pork roll was filling, schnitzel burger was small serve, bratwurst was average and Caesar salad dressing and cheese were bland although a big serve. The potato chips were undercooked. Floors in toilets were also sticky and hand drier didn't work. The whole place looked tired and in need of a freshen up.
Me
Worst service in Brisbane. The beer is average and the food is terrible.
Stevenalison
Waited 10+ minutes for beers, just about to walk out.The taste plate so sausage and pickle had us hooked.Very busy spot with glass partitions for wind break and privacy. Will return.

Fantastic service from Ryan at Bavarian Beer Cafe great food
Nigellerella
We went there to drink German beer and had to wait in a very long queue for people ordering cocktails and spirit mixers! We left, as nothing like a Bavarian beer hall.
Miguel Mungarrieta
Good expensive beers, unfriendly service. When there the other day to get some beers with my friend. The girl at the bar was grumpy like she just didn't want to be there, the waitress was like a ghost...no where near our table, even though the place was empty. I didn't care much as I only wanted a drink, but for the price I paid I'd rather feel welcome.

Yummy food & great service. We had a birthday gathering at Bavarian Bier Cafe and like the other times that we've been here, the food was delicious, the service was amazing, the atmosphere was great and they also exceeded our expectations. <br/><br/>I totally agree with Natalie that Ryan is one of the most attentive and friendly waiters in the whole of Brisbane. He knows exactly when someone who's just additionally arrive at the table and offer drinks immediately without us having to ask. Food wise, our dinner came out promptly & I recommend the salmon & the schitznel- Yum!
Anna Swain
Loved it!!! Honestly the best service I have ever had - the food was great - the beer was great!!! Great river views and open super late :)
Chris
Words can't describe how awesome this place is<br/>Great food<br/>Amazing beer <br/>Friendly staff <br/>Just the best place ever

First time at BBC today and it was great! Prompt service, good atmosphere, food came out fast and was very generous servings for a decent price. I would definitely go back.

Great Night Out!. I've gone out here for dinner and drinks a few times and must admit that I've had a great time on each occasion. The food was really yummy - pork knuckle delicious and HUGE. For those without a giant's appetite, I highly recommend getting the half size knuckle as opposed to the full. I've also tried the salmon and mussels which was also yummy. My friends have ordered the pork belly which they say is amazing. The schnitzel dishes apparently taste great too and also HUGE! I saw a few guys carrying giant size beers which looked a bit comical :) atmosphere great, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and having a good time. I will be back. Again and again ... :D

Beer, Pork and atmosphere, what's there not to like..

Great place! I came from Melbourne and enjoyed the setting. I got the pork belly an washed it down with a dark ale beer. It was very good just needed to be served with a napkin.
Veronica
Our waiter, Ryan was really attentive. He did a great job. Great atmosphere, great food and great beer. We've been here before and we will definitely be back in the future!
Katrina Anson
Had lunch here outside by the river on a gorg brissy day! The food topped off our day! We both had the roast pork roll! all i can say is yummmmy! Atmosphere and service 5 star! Love this place :)

How to lose potential customers, a la Bavarian Bier. Maybe one of the most disappointing bookings that we've ever made. Apparently after weeks of planning, phone calls and a hefty deposit the staff at the Bavarian decided that our party of at least 20 weren't worth serving, especially with the few minors we had with us. I would say this is probably the poorest service I've seen, as the staff would say one thing, and then change it moments later to something that didn't exactly seem fair. <br/><br/>After an awkward 10 minute lecturing, our heavily watched group were inclined to leave. Eighteen year olds aren't appreciated in the world of "fine dining" it seems. Let's just say making a group the focal point of a barrage isn't exactly the best way to serve up a good night. <br/><br/>No food & no service, excellent. Oh and did I mention the non-refundable deposit?
Herman
Always fun... A bit pricey but good variety of beers & menu option... Tasting plate is always a winner...

Dissapointed. Very disappointed in this Venue, went with group of friends and were seated with food ordered when asked to move by staff for incoming dinner guests, we were offered other tables that were supposdly vacant, but when we moved down were full. All this while the restaurant was less than half full.<br/><br/>We were not the only guests asked to move, a lot of walk outs.<br/><br/>On top of this, when we arrived we had to clear our own table to be seated.<br/><br/>Really dont understand the mentallity of chasing paying customers out while there are vacant tables.<br/><br/>Moved to a West End venue and the hospitallity was overwhelming, needless to say wont be returning to the Bavarian in a hurry.

Yummy!. I went with my family to the Bavarian Bier Cafe on a Sunday night and we had a fantastic time. It was pretty noisy but it was surprisingly packed for a Sunday! Me and my mother ordered the Pork Belly, which was humongous! But absolutely delicious. It was fatty but there was a lovely amount of meat too and I can't stop thinking about going back again for more! Even though I could barely finish it. My brother chose the sirloin which was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing with the mushroom cream when he gave me a try, but he complained the chips were too spicy. On the other hand, my father thought the chips were incredible and devoured his hot dog which was apparently delicious too. We all tried different beers, I had a fruity one which I thought was delicious. Overall it was a wonderful night with amazing food and I'm already making plans to go back next week!

First time coming to this restaurant. Found the atmosphere to be jovial and party-like, which suited our purpose for being there. Drinks were a little expensive. Food was delicious. Entrée of crumbed cambert was a smashing hit. The pork knuckle was massive and bested my friend. My husband was in heaven over his giant bratwurst dish. Will definitely return again.
Black Hat Dave
Had a great Sunday dinner here.. Staff coped well with stormy weather.. With glass screens in place (kept us dry!) we enjoyed the muscles and had some bread rolls... Great for mopping up the soup the muscled are served with.. lol.. 10/10 for this one.. Also shared a Bavarian tasting plate and sticky date desert and coffee.. We ate well now that I think about.. Good pub grub, not too shabby either.. :-) Would do it again for the muscles.. And the killer view.. ;-).

Very dissapointed. We went there for lunch last Sunday. We were happy with the sevice and the beer, but unfortunately our serloin steaks were a very poor cut (too thin) and grisily and not cooked as we asked for. The waiter took them back and half an hour later and a complimentary beer each, we recieved our second steak. It was ok but not the best (still grisily)I think the quality of their serloin steaks are not up to scratch considering the price. Although we were happy with the service the whole experience was dissapointing especially as it was our wedding anniversary.

Great Dining Experience. We've been to this place twice and would definitely go back! Great food, Nice ambience and Excellent staff......
Danielle Rixon
Perhaps my favourite place. Been here many times before, and tonight, like every night is fantastic. Ryan, our waiter is amazingly knowledgeable and every recommendation was absolutely spot on. The food was delectable as always, and the atmosphere and view as usual A++. Try the Fire & Ice Scnapps! :)
Anthony Barwell
Service with more than a smile. This place combines perfect location, great food, superb beer and outstanding customer service to be one of Brisbane's very best venues. We visited last saturday for one of my good friends' 40th birthday and were blown away by the excellent service we received, specifically from Alice the beautiful cocktail waitress/bartender. She treated us like family for the entire night with friendly and uncompromising service as well as shaking us up some delicious cocktails and the best margaritas we've had in brisbane so far. Thanks for a brilliant night bavarian, we'll definitely be back soon- Ant.
Adam
Unbelievably fantastic service. Probably the best service I have come across to be honest. The beers are great too. To top it off, you have a lovely view over the story bridge and river. Great place!
YummyFoody
Good and simple concept. Simple concept, but well executed. Will be back for beers and food.
Nat
This place is one of my favourites in Brisbane. Tasting platter is a must if its one of ur first times here. I love the pork knuckle, best in Brisbane closely followed is the German club! It literally melts in ur mouth! Great selection of German beers and u can munch on a tasty pretzel and just unwind and take in the view if that's what ur after. Love the cocktails and schnapps for a fun night out. Be careful though lol
Jesskaar
Great place to unwind. Overlooking the brisbane river and story bridge, I couldn't think of a better way to unwind. With a great selection of bier, greasy (in a good way of course!) food in ridiculously large portions, and friendly staff, this is a great place to go for post-work drinks or just to catch up with friends. My only complaint would be that I have found that on a number of occassions, many of the dishes to be extremely salty. Perhaps most people just shrug it off with a pint of bier.
JJ
Great view, great food. First time here about three weeks ago and they won me over with simply one of the best Bloody Mary’s I’ve had in a long time, followed by a delicious (and huge I might add) meal. Can’t rave enough about the salt and pepper squid; the pints of Franziskaner weren’t too shabby either!
Aimsl
I went here for my birthday late last year, and was really happy with everything! Our waitress was lovely, and always made sure we had food and drinks. She was also kind enough to give me small tastes of different beers, as I am not the biggest fan of heavy beers! The food is great, be prepared to walk out of there very full. I do feel though the prices are a little high. All in all though, a really great night had by all.
Jan Murray
We have always extolled the virtues of this restaurant ,but on inviting family to join us last night found the food to be unedible ,we are very disappointed and will not be back ,small meals dry and unappetising overpriced ,decor and ambience great ,time to pick up your standards in food freshness .
Anthony D
Great atmosphere and platters are awesome. The beer is great if you can get past the prices.
Tracy
Check your bill for the Christmas season..... Apparently 'people don't choose their meals according to price' , this was the retort when we raised with the manager that our bill was incorrect and EVERY menu item was a mysterious $2 or $3 difference (higher of course) than stated on the menu<br/><br/>He also stated the menu was wrong - despite every table having the same menu and a specific christmas menu option, clearly if your menus are that wrong then change them rather than just assume people will pay anything.<br/><br/>The food was decent enough and I would eat there again but I was disappointed with the attiude shown about the bill. Most people tip or round up anyway and to add an extra $20 or so is quite cheeky I thought.
CJ
Mmmm passionfruit beer.... salty pork knucle...sauerkraut. yummo. view isnt too shabby either
Jirren
Best service in brisbane. Go here for the service at least, its always very busy, but that's just because anyone who tries it once will surely go again
JustWannaHaveAGoodTime
Bavarian Bier Cafe has gone downhill of late. Used to love this joint but over the last couple of months the service has been lacking and the general vibe just isn't there any more. <br/>Really disappointed with the service today. Am not recommending this place anymore, in fact spreading the word to give this joint a miss. What ever happened to customer service.
Kris.C
Price-4, Service-6, Food-4, Atmosphere-7<br/>Quite expensive and the food wasn't great
Brett
Good for a bier or two.. I love this place. it's all about the atmosphere sitting at the top deck looking down to the river.<br/>I'm not a fan of their food though. really greesy.... but love the bier.<br/>I don't eat much food but drinks anyways.<br/><br/>It has become my regular place bringing my colleague every friday.<br/>Only hope is that they can add some vegies on the prezel....please....
Kevin
My gf and i went here on a tuesday night and it was decently packed. This was our first tine and we ordered the pork knuckle and the pork belly. Both were huge portions and very salty i guess thats where the saurcrat(wrong spelling i know) cimes in but it was an unusual taste and something we need to get used to. Definetaly interesting and tasteful. Beer was amazing too.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Busy but good. Decent food, big servings, nice decor, not dirt cheap, good service. Good place for a group dinner - which was what we did. We spent a lot of time there havbing enbtrees, mains, desserts and after dinner drinks. It was agreat night but not cheap. Its always busy so plenty of other people obviously like it too.
Food Karma
Meaty Goodness. Don't attempt to go to the Bavarian Bier Cafe if you are #1 Not hungry #2 On a diet #3 On a budget.<br/><br/>It is well worth the money but not a cheap night out. I highly recommend the platters and beer sampling. You get the best of all worlds and is a really fun interactive way of eating. Also make sure you end the meal with a pretzel... don't start with it!
Food000
Nice night. The food here is delicious but it is a bit expensive. But look at the location of this restaurant - right on Eagle St Pier. We had the chicken schnitzel ($27.50) and pork knuckle ($37.50). Both very nice. The pork knuckle was huge and meat was falling off the bone. Yum. The chicken schnitzel is good if you don't want to stuff yourself before heading out for a few drinks. The service was good and the atmosphere in there was great. Huge beer selection.
Kirsty Purple
Piss poor effort on Sunday brunch. Food delayed more than 1 hr and food very poor standard when it did come out. Cold, over cooked. Staff did their best, but poor management.
Leonie Conyers
Great food, great service, fantastic atmosphere! Thanks.
Jason Kennewell
A great choice of German beers to choose from. Great views of the river, and the food is excellent. Very modern contempory fit out and the service is very good.
Brisbanite
German. Traditional German cuisine. Good hearty meals but too heavy for me. Have been a couple of times, great atmosphere and service
Fmooky
Great time had by all at the Barvarian. A nice alternative to the German Club with a much better view, classier decor and diverse beers on tap. I love the Spaten beer! I thought drinks were reasonably priced. We had an excellent and attentive Irish waitress who was very cute. In terms of food however, I still prefer the homeliness and comfort food they serve at the German Club but if you are looking for a nice venue to drink and lunch with friends on a Sunday overlooking the river and bridge, this is it.
Cherie
Hearty fare. Have been here a couple of times and both times have not been disappointed. Pork belly and the schnitzel were both devoured leaving full bellies and hearty smiles on the faces all round.<br/>Wide selection of beers available but was disappointed by the lack of ciders and 'ladies beer' options - which were not like that which I had on my visits to Germany...
Dan
Well, the service was more than acceptable, the drinks were competitively priced; however the the pork cracklinng tasted like a mermaid's tampon and I have no more to say about it.
Claire
Good friday night alternative following work. A great atmosphere with a mix of age groups, not all people in their 20's, and good drinks. In fairness, none of my friends drank beer so can't comment on that but they have a broad range and tasty cocktails. We were lucky to get a table to eat but our waiter was friendly and efficient. Food was not much to write about to be honest but would go back as it's a great location and has a fun vibe.
Kawaii Bubble Tea
AWESOME!. Mixed dishes are HUGE, plenty enough for 2. schnitzel is amazing, only thing on platter I didn't enjoy was the Pork Belly, crackling was incredibly hard, couldn't bite into, rest was just fat, no flavour. Pretzels are great too!
Amy Morrison
The place certainly has a great vibe, nice bar and wait staff and good meaty food, appox wait on food is 30 mins but there is always a lot of people so it's actually quiet good service. They just need to punt those snobbs on the front maitre'de that think that they are so "exclusive". Their attitude stinks everytime I go there.
Krackercat
Repeat offenders: good selection of beers & food (try a tasting platter if you're unsure!) and the view of the Storey Bridge/river is equal to any. Caters for all - after work parties or an uncle's 80th (lunch!).
CB
I had the pork belly & it was ok. The crackling was way too salty. A couple of friends ordered the pork knuckle and said it was overcooked & dry. However the atmosphere is great & service was good.
Vanessa Abraham
Love the crackling. Took my friend to the Bavarian for lunch and she absolutely loved it. I've been a big fan because of the Lowenbrau, the atmosphere, and the friendly and competent staff. And the roast pork crackling is just insanely and sinfully delicious. Will definitely recommend it to others.
Sarah Price
Perfect for after work drinks!. The vibe here is just fantastic! always packed and pumping! service is fast and the drinks are huge... definitely a winner!
White Orchid
Good. Food was tasty...but compared to the German Club in Wooloongabba the portions are tiny and twice the price. But for a city bar it's good.<br/><br/>Beer is also more expensive then the German Club and less variety but still good for the city and that area in Eagle Pier in articular as everything is pricey .<br/>Of course they would pay more rent here etc.
Chris Nunn
Brings back memorys. After being to munich and octoberfest the real octoberfest not the one in brisbane i was looking forward to dining here and it did not disapoint. Had the pork knucle why would you get anything else and yes it is salty and fatty but so good. Was also nice to get a nice big stein of german beer although the only have the big commercial brewerys and not any of the smaller brewerys that i enjoyed at octoberfest. And to all the people who complained about fatty food and now vegetables on the menu i wouldnt go to baviara because that is what there food is like. Will go back again is very pricey but $21 for a stein compared to about $10 in munich, but then again austaralia is fast becoming one of the most expensive countrys in the world to live.
Foodie86
Bavarian Heaven. An impromptu visit to the Bavarian Beer Cafe was like a like being transported back to the homeland. Filled with delicious aromas and a bustling vibe my friends and I felt immediately welcome. Our meals were divine! it felt like sitting in Grandma's kitchen all over again! Defintely recommend the Pork Belly with red cabbage and potatoes as well as the various arrays of schnitzel. To wash it down help yourself to the amazing selection of beers! The service was friendly and although the price was not cheap, it was definitely worth it!!
Nick
Poor Service. All the dourness with none of the efficiency one associates with that part of the world.<br/>No eye contact/smile from Front-of-house, took ages for a waiter to take a drink order.<br/>Ordered food, then waited 45 minutes only to be told our order was lost, and required reordering. In fairness they took a round of drinks off the bill without prompting.<br/>When meals eventually arrived mine (pork belly) was very good, however other diners were less than impressed.<br/>Great view from the outside deck.
Aleaxander Henry
Lecker Lecker Lecker. Lecker (yummy) Beer, Lecker Food!
V
Fantastic and authentic!! The selection of bier is astounding, and the food is wonderful!! I would definitely recommend the tasting platter (two sizes to accommodate any appetite). A weissbier would wash it down nicely. The food is hearty and some would say fatty but that's what you sign up for when it comes to German food, the alcohol needs to be absorbed somehow! I am a regular for dinner or lunch, the energetic atmosphere and the views make it a very positive dining experience!
D-ka
Bier. Good for the beer; not the food.
Geoff Day
Booked a table, and our table was taken. Then tried to order a meal, and was told that our booking has expired and we could not order
Junoesque07
Bad service. We called to make a reservation for 14 people and was told to walk in as they do not do reservation on a Saturday. Went there at 6:30pm and drank bier while waiting for a table. 2 hours passed and we were really hungry so we asked if we were next in the list and we were. We told the staff that we didn't mind splitting up different tables. Another hour past and we were still waiting. Finally we couldn't tolerate anymore and went to speak to staff and found out they have allowed guests who were after us to be seated first. And when we thought everything was over, the waitress commented that we should make a reservation for such a big group. It was rubbing salt to a wound. I was so mad that I lodge a complaint to the assistant manager and I'm waiting for his explanation in writing.
JeZzA
Beautiful views of Brisbane river. Good service. Had the chicken schintzel and it was excellent. Bit pricey considering the meal size. Overall 7 out of 10
.iHo
The food here aspires to be great... but falls slightly short of the mark and you feel the real brunt of the fall when you notice how much they are charging.<br/><br/>The actual venue itself is really quite awesome; beautiful views of the river and of the Story Bridge; it is one of a moderate chain of heavily marketed German pubs. In summary, this is an excellent place for drinking, especially if you belong to an American style fraternity.<br/><br/>Verdict: value for money is poor & it's a place for young people in their early 20s, or people who wish they were 20 again.
Brisbmatt
Table service?. Great location, premium pricing, average service. Have my favorite lager on tap (Hofbrau) so I'll be back. I just cant understand with so many waitstaff that they don't offer table service for drinks
The Fighting Mongoose.
Cramped. Went on a Friday afternoon, the middle management set were boisterous and enjoying the bustle inside the cramped bar area. Unfortunately, once we stepped onto the long curving terrace we were shepherded by a very polite, but ultimately very frustrating, security guard to move into a tight wedge of the balcony cordoned off for the unreserved, non-dining punters (which was almost everyone there at that point). <br/><br/>After jostling for breathing room with some convivial chaps on their third or fourth stein of beer we decided to move on. Attempting to co-locate an Eagle Street Pier restaurant with a chic rendition of a Munich ale house is a difficult juxtaposition to pull off. In this case, it appears to leave both part's style a little cramped.
Stef07
Nice. My first visit last Saturday, good food, albeit not overly authentic (I am from Bavaria). Certainly much better qualitiy compared to what they serve at the RNA Octoberfest (awful) or the German club (edible). But it comes with a hefty price tag, which is understandable given the location. Its been open for while now and still seems to go strong, it was packed. Observing others it looked like most people enjoy it. Yes its noisy, obviously the rather strong German beer does the job. Good place for a fun loving group, certainly not recommended for a candlelight date. Glad they didn't play bavarian humpdada music, so I will come back.
EnHop
Switching up my thinking. Im usually one for a bigger meal/more bang for you buck, but BBC has changed that method of thinking. The 1person platters are excellent with a great selection of tastes that, even with the small serving sizes, still manages to fill me up (i think the 1litre beers might also help that situation). The way this place is set up is incredible, in a great location, and i was pleasantly surprised one night that I went for drinks and the NRL was playing on numerous televisions (rare for this part of the city).
GenieInTheLamp
Almost There. A great selection of brews is available from this place, along with tasty schnitzels served in in a generous portion if you're a fan of that type of food. Less generous were some of the other mains going around however.<br/><br/>The waiters / waitresses were a mixed bag - some obviously quite green in contrast to a few that had been around the block.<br/><br/>The ambience is the usual rowdy kind should you visit at beer-o-clock, and don't expect to talk at a normal volume. Think night club shouting levels, and you'll be right. It's alright for after work drinks but for a dinner, ask to be seated outside where you can almost not strain your vocal chords.<br/><br/>Would I come back? Well, I'm a schnitzel fan, so that's a definite yes from me!
Shan
Go for the beer, not the food.. Wood paneled walls, long wooden tables and bustling atmosphere are a modern twist on a German beer hall. The lighting is warm and cozy and there is nowhere better in the city for after work drinks. <br/><br/>Sadly, all the meals were variations on bland and fatty, but that, in my opinion, is all you can expect from mash, sausage and pork belly pub food. (I realise this is contrary to the many glowing reviews on this site but I'm sticking by it.) Expect $25-30per main for the privilege but with THAT(!) view of the river it's probably forgivable. <br/><br/>The beer, however, is great with a brew to suit every taste. And yes, they do ring a bell when you order schnapps and one of the petite brunettes will bring it over in a meter long boat. It's fun.
Natalie Portmenteau
It's ok. My days of Friday-after-work-drinks reached their peak years ago but last night went out to farewell a colleague who is going interstate. Bavarian was chosen (not by me) as the venue. It's...ok. The interiors are nice but the atmosphere was frantic, loud and meat market-ish (which I guess could be good in some cases). Didn't try food. Drinks were as pricey as you'd expect them to be around this area on a Friday night. Service, in the cramped environs, was actually not bad. I wouldn't have thought it an intimate date place or a casual dinner place - would be way too loud for the latter.
Lakshmi Kerr
Great setting, good selection of beers, great bar snacks. Unfortunately my experience in the restaurant isn't so positive - ordered white wine mussels which were very bland; sent them back and the replacement was still bland.
Dan
Good bar, average restaurant. The first time i have ever left a german restaurant and still been hungry. that is a fatal error on their behalf and needs to be fixed. food was ok but clearly not enough of it.<br/><br/>great bar with a wide selection of draught german beer... but very spendy at around $10 - 13 for a 500ml stein.
Steve Gehle
Warm pretzels, delicious Bavarian Tasting Platter, great beers and top notch service :)
Glomeshgirl
Mmmmmm not likin it! We called Saturday lunchtime to make a booking for dinner and was told they don't take bookings but if we turned up early we they would put seat us when they could. Arrived at 5:30pm that afternoon and then were told ' we only take bookings for dinner' What the?! we waited and finally got a table for dinner at 8.13pm. The service I must say was on from that point and we got our meals in ok time however they let people smoke on the outside balcony and it drifts oh so effortlessly toward those trying to enjoy your meal. Is that legal? I ordered the mussels.... Huge regret. I kept the receipt in case I get food poisoning. The others had some sort of sausage thing and said it was good. By 10pm the place has turned into a pick up joint so we were out of there. I think this place has potential but is just playing to the boozer bloke/tourist crowd. Sorry Barvarian, you didn't thrill my Glomesh I won't be back.
Kim E
Nice Lunch. Went here by pot luck today for lunch - the Tuna salad I had was lovely and freash , the attomphere was really relaxed .. Serice was okay overall - but we ordered a coffee to finish our meal which took for ever to come ... but in the end they gave to us on the house :) ... All and all I will be back
Adam
Amazing Bavarian Tasting Platter!. Before going to this restaurant, I had already read reviews and was expecting bad service, and it really shows. Was sat down quickly, drink orders were taken swifty... but took about 15-20minutes to actually get the beers...<br/><br/>Thankfully the amazing taste and the Bavarian Tasting Platter made up for it! Definitely would not recommend this place for the service, but would recommend it for the food! <br/><br/>I'm not very experienced in German cuisine, but this has definitely devleoped my taste for it!
Jjd60
Horrific. Went there for lunch the other day. The staff were backpackers who had no idea what they were doing. They left us standing in the door for five minutes. We had a reservation, and they took us to a table beside the DOSA. We asked to move and they initially refused. There was an empty table that was also reserved but they refused to put us there. They brought the wine, a $55 bottle, and they refused to let me taste it first. When they confirmed the would not move us, we said we would leave. They refused to let us take the wine with us, and chased me down the stairs to retrieve it. Altogether shocking.
YJ
Good location and atmosphere. Service was ok, not great. Food was ok but expensive for what is essentially pub food. Kitchen should be more discerning about the cuts of pork belly to use - should avoid serving cuts with all fat and no meat.
Lauren Crampton
Bar staff are extremely egotistical which is a shame as the beer is nice - if you're lucky enough to get served. If you don't like it don't dare screw your nose up or you'll get the boot.
BL
Delicious. Shared 3 entre's between 2 for lunch and was very impressed. Calamari was super tender & light crispy batter. Chicken mango & advocado salad was super & caramelised onion tart so tasty. <br/>Beer was super cold & clean<br/>Staff were maybe a little ditsy but what do you expect from a bunch of blonde 18 year olds who are probably there to pay their way through uni not make it as top notch hospitality staff
Henners
My only real objection here was with the cocktails. At 17 dollars each I expect the bar staff to know how to make my girlfriend a decent drink. They can pour beer but that's about it.
Vysanthe
Amazing!. One of the chefs in our kitchen was friends with the head chef here, and so we all went along for our work christmas party. The platters are excellent, the chips are crispy and fluffy and delicious, and the pork belly was to die for! The selection of beers was interesting (ladie's beers for me) and the pretzels were great. The 1 metre of Schnapps was a great novelty, I'll be coming back for sure.
Mattias Nord
Poor service. The views are magnificent but the service is poor. Despite at least 7-8 staff and a half full restaurant we had to wait too long for our beer. We therefore decided to leave without waiting any longer for our second one. The waitress explained that it was so busy. They had put it on the bill so the manager had to be called to remove it from the bill. He did not say a word. They should teach their young staff some German efficiency. Food is ok but you get better in most German gasthauses.
Manup
Great setting. Good beer. Decent pork belly, schnitzel and Bavarian sausages.
Kristian
Exceptional. Went there last weekend - the food is truly divine. Best German place in Brisbane. Sauerkraut and Red Cabbage were actually cooked the German way
TJ
Thumbs down.. Absolutely hopeless staff who cannot give you the correct change and take 5 minutes trying to operate the till, blonde bimbos that wander about aimlessly talking to each other and take half an hour to collect empty plates and ridiculously overpriced food - $18 for 5 calamari rings when Drift (RIP) served a much tastier and larger amount for the same price.<br/>The view is the only thing going for this place. I was very disappointed.
Dingo
Bavarian Bier happiness. Good if you like beer and large serves of meat. The snitzel is great, h owever would like to see a green vegetable.
Heather
Bavarian taster platter is a meat-lovers dream
Vanilla
Schnitzel lovers paradise. Decided to try the Bavarian Bier Café with my friend who is 'obsessed' with schnitzel and chips. This includes a personal ranking of the best schnitzel around town & a ranking of the best chips around town. On seeing the menu she was in love & pronounced that this was her kind of place with such a large choice of schnitzels!!! Not being in the mood for schnitzel for lunch the rest of our group opted for the Munich Burger a 200g Wagyu burger serviced with bacon, salad and chips for $16.50. Come with your appetite ready to go! Even the chalk board at the bottom of the escalators leading to the café advertises a schnitzel & chips for $17 & if you can finish it there is a reward! We saw quite a few of these gigantic schnitzel's coming out (the size of a large oval dinner plate) however my schnitzel loving friend decided to save the offer for when she was more prepared. Lunch was buzzing for a Tuesday mostly large work groups & although it started to rain outdoor diners were not effected. There are lot's of good looking options on the menu that I would like to try on a return trip, the pork belly looked to be a popular option also. <br/><br/>The beer menu offers a large choice of beers which are available in 300 ml $5.80, 500ml $9.90 or a litre and deserves to be tested extensively at a better time perhaps. There is also a choice of bottled beer, wines & a separate schnapps menu. Love the way the shots of schnapps are served which definitely draws attention of near by tables.<br/><br/>The Munich burger was large with a very generous serving of chips, the wagyu exceptionally tender & received a thumbs up by all. The schnitzel came with a separate bowl of chips & dipping sauce, the schnitzel on a separate plate with lemon and gravy on the side. The chicken was perfectly tender but my friend prefers her schnitzel to have a crunchy coating of breadcrumb mixture & was disappointed with this however the flavour of the schnitzel and the gravy was very good. The chips won't be on my friend's favourite ranking but the others in our group had no complaints at all. With a great location, great view, choice of seating - indoor, outdoor, table or high bench and a large menu to cater for all - I will return. Service was hit & miss, second round of drinks never arrived however for a new venue I am sure in time will improve.
Table For 3 Thanks
Gorgeous views, tasty food and pumping atmosphere. This is a great place to head with friends. Sitting outside with the city and Storey Bridge lit up as a backdrop and a cooling breeze from the river it makes you appreciate just how picturesque Brisbane can be. The kids menu is only $6 which in my book makes it a bargain. Cooper had the veal schnitzel which was super tender and served with plenty of chips that weren’t on his plate for long! I wasn’t super hungry so order the roast pork roll. At only $20 I thought it would be a smaller meal. Well, I was wrong. It was a thick, juicy slice of roast pork belly – crackling and all – sandwiched on a super soft roll with tangy sauerkraut, spicy mustard pickles and loaded with flavour. Just in case that wasn’t enough there was a basket of fries and a stand full of condiments. The whole thing was totally delicious. The Alsatian Pinot Blanc was the perfect wine match. Next time I laying in bed with a hangover this is the meal I want delivered to

I would return to the Bavarian Bier Café to try more of the dishes on the menu, maybe a bier or schnapps for a drink next time and a dessert. They offer a Pure Bier selection apparently made to strict Bavarian purity laws of 1516 and comprising of just 4 ingredients: malt, hops, yeast and water. I would consider it for a drinks event for the social group such as a Sunday session and also a meal. I would also dine here with my friends. It’s not really the spot for a quiet meal or a romantic one if that’s what you’re after as it is just that bit too noisy. There are also locations in New South Wales with a total of 9 across New South Wales and Queensland.

Looking for a watering hole that stands out from the crowd? Want to pretend you’re in a steamy Polynesia or party like you’re in the French alps? Well now you can without leaving the country…just visit one of Brisbane’s many themed up bars! Here’s our pick of the list below. Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall This bar has paved the way for the rejuvenation of Caxton St and whilst the invasion of bearded hipsters and relaxed venues won’t be for everyone – it is certainly a winner for us! Lefty’s has amazing live bands, some very attractive bartenders and a delicious Apple and Whiskey drink that goes down veeeery easy.  Just go. Oh and just inside Lefty’s there is also the pretty spectacular… Mermaid Lounge A deep-sea themed bar within an American style old fashioned Saloon? Your mind is blown right? The Mermaid Lounge fills up quickly and I am certain it is due to the fact there is a shark hanging from the roof. It must be – either that or the replica ship on the bar right?! Or it could be the

The Munich brewers platter for two was huge, simply huge. Consisting of crispy pork belly, port terrine, a huge roasted pork knuckle, four different haus-made sausages, chicken pork schnitzel, sauerkraut, red cabbage, creamy mash potato, granny smith apple compote and a Löwenbräu bier jus, it was the granddaddy of all meals.

Overlooking the waters of Eagle Street Pier, Bavarian Bier Cafe holds one of the best views a restaurant could have in the city.  While i don't feel completely qualified to review this place, as I've only tried the food and not their beers, I may as well drop a little note on their sausages.

They serve massive 1 litre steins, giant prezels and giant platters of meat.

The Bavarian also offers great function platters with an assortment of German classics and German inspired delights, all at affordable prices. A nice change from the deep fry and party pie selections on offer at most other drinking establishments.
Sir And Mlady Dine Out
Decent food, big servings, nice decor, not dirt cheap, good service. Good place for a group dinner - which was what we did. We spent a lot of time there having entrees, mains, desserts and after dinner drinks.

This blog post has been long overdue indeed with the event of the 'Pure Bier Fest 2012 Bloggers Dinner' being held on May in Bavarian Bier Cafe in Eagle Street Pier.. Finally, I have decided to post this blog now, excuse my lateness in doing so though... I have been busy and had trouble trying to locate these photos from my files.. Was invited by OCOM for a blogger's dinner on a Friday evening to launch Pure Bier Fest which goes for a month..

Our night here was absolutely fabulous and it was definitely the highlight of our dining experiences in Brisbane, with each of us complimenting the food, wine, beer and service.

...having already sampled the platter at a work lunch, went full-steam ahead with the roast pork belly. The two varieties of sauerkeraut were well-matched to the meats and is not overpowering at all.
Dolce Bunnie
This place always gets so jam packed, especially on a Friday night as it's very popular among the CBD corporates. Yes, the service may not be perfect (in fact our orders have been lost before and we have had a full glass of beer spilled on us by a waitress) but hey, it's a fun place to go to for a night of lighthearted pleasure and wholesome german fare.

...we ordered a Tuna Nicoise, a Munich Brewer's Platter, a Bavarian Tasting Platter, a Zurich Veal and a side of Bread basket and Sauerkrat
Brisbane Devoured
The veal was juicy and tender and the crumbs were crunchy and large, looking similar to panko breadcrumbs. The herb mayonnaise was nice to begin with but became a bit sickly after a while,

If you like meat, beer and river views then you won’t regret heading over to the Bavarian Bier Café! Featured as one of the latest additions to Eagle Street Pier, this joint offers a sophisticated alternative to pub grub and golden ale.
