We came here for state of origin and I am so glad we did. This was probably the best football atmosphere I have ever experienced. The venue was packed but it was worth it in every way. They served jugs of beer which stopped the long line-ups at the bar. Everyone in the venue was also very friendly and we made some great friends. The beer prices were reasonable considering the occasion. I dont think there was a minute of silence from start to finish. This place is iconic for a reason and hats off to the security they handled the venue extremely well. There weren't any fights either and everyone was allowed to have a true origin experience. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to watch the football with an amazing atmosphere then definitely come down here.

Iconic pub that I've now scratched off my bucket list. Great experience, especially before major sporting events, in my case Magic Round 2022.
Good pub food, and of course, plenty of beerđș

This place was pumping and they got our food out to us pretty quick considering. It was the first game of the season. Not many choices at all for gluten free, but the staff did make sure I had options, so that was nice. The steak was huge and tender. Overall a lovely pregame meal.

The manager Jenny is genuinely the best person i have ever had an interaction with. she is super caring and kind and makes sure that everyone is well looked after. she runs a tight ship and will be going back just for her. the other staff are brilliant and the drinks are delicious. love you guys xx

I had the rump steak, my fussy friend had the same.
Easily the best steak I have had in years, brilliant 10 out of 10. Worth every cent it cost.
Good staff, friendly and helpful.
I'll be back đđđđ

Biggest problem going to the Caxton is parking. Tried the Barracks car park and all 3 stories were full. Got so frustrated we nearly drove home, took us 3/4 of an hour to find a park. I did actually book but there was no need, the place was almost empty on a Saturday night. Large place, pleasant, somewhat outdated. Staff was excellent. Food, well, the oysters kilpatrick were served in some sort of thick sauce that you needed a fork and knife to get through . Not to my taste and certainly not to my understanding of how kilpatrick should be served. I had the filet minion , my partner filet steak. Both were well presented, cooked well and enjoyable.
We had a pleasant enough evening and I donât really have any complaints, but would I go back again?
Naw, plenty of pubs around town that can do what the Caxton does.

My wife and I dined here on a quiet Thursday night in June. The place was fairly empty, which suited us fine, as it made the ambience quiet, laid back and relaxing and we also received excellent attention from the wait staff. Parking was a breeze too, and we managed to get a spot right opposite the hotel, where restrictions end at 7.00pm. We had taken the precaution of booking ahead but it wasnât necessary, with ample free tables and we were able to choose where we wanted to sit. It was a cold, wintry night and this is a slightly chilly venue with a mainly white colour scheme, high ceilings and tiled floors, which isnât ideal for winter. But they do have a few heavy duty, industrial strength heaters strategically placed throughout the venue, so of course we chose a table that was close to one.
The place has been tastefully decked out with stylish modern furniture in black and white, and being a large space, itâs open, airy and comfortable with plenty of room between the tables. With a gentle breeze blowing through it, this would be a pleasure on a hot Qld summer night.
Our server was Brianne. Like all the wait staff, she was neatly turned out in a black and white uniform, to match the overall colour scheme of the place. She was a friendly young lady: Helpful, polite and efficient, and she made sure that the evening ran smoothly for us from beginning to end. Orders were quickly taken, and drinks entrees and mains came out at steady clip, in the correct order and with minimum waiting time between courses. Thatâs just the way we like it!
We started with a couple of glasses of our fav Juliet Moscato sparkling white wine ($9 for a small glass, a hefty $15 for the 250ml glass). That went down well and whetted our appetites. For an entree, we ordered the salt and pepper calamari with sweet chilli dressing ($17). The calamari was nice and chewy, perfect with a slice of lemon, chilli sauce and a sprinkling of tomato and celery salad with salsa. The serving size was small for the price, and we finished it off in no time. For our mains, we both ordered the 350 g porterhouse steaks at $30 each. They came with beer battered chips and a choice of one sauce and one side dish. We both chose mushroom sauce and coleslaw as our side. Steaks were well cooked the way we like them to be, and perfectly complemented by the crispy chips and smooth, creamy coleslaw. Fab meals, beautifully prepared and nicely presented to the table on smart white crockery. We both enjoyed our steaks.
With only a smattering of other guests, the acoustics were perfect and we had no trouble conversing. The wicker chairs were comfy, and the tables large enough to fit all the drinks and meals. Toilets are clean, well provisioned and easy to find.
Our bill two came to $78, after a $30 âDining Out in Brisbaneâ discount. I guess without the discount, we would have paid a rather steep $108 for three glasses of wine, one entree and two steaks. This just goes to show the extent to which our little Aussie peso has been devalued thanks to govt profligacy and reckless spending.
But overall, we had a very pleasant evening here and it all went swimmingly. The food is excellent, service is fast and efficient and the ambience is pleasant and relaxed in an airy and comfortable space. Iâm sure weâll be back to the Caxton before too long.

My local Pub serving Rump Steak Specials for lunch and dinner. Good friendly service.

The food here is nothing short of excellent. I took a group of friends here before a night out and it was the highlight! We all ordered the shot glass oysters, that come in a delicious Bloody Mary mix. I also got some good cocktails at the bar. I think it was called a slippery lychee. So damn good. The wait staff are actually quite attentive to even though it was fairly busy. I know Iâll be back during the week when they offer some steak specials.

The Caxton Char Grill has been around for years and continues to serve up one of the best value steaks in Brisbane. Amongst many other dishes, the Rib Eye is probably my favourite. It does have a lot of juicy and flavoursome marbling (fat), but it tastes amazing. To accompany a meal there's a great range of tap beers and a well detailed wine menu. If you like a cocktail, share the Peach Sangria Jug... You will not regret it. <br/><br/>On busy nights the atmosphere is awesome. The place buzzes, and the staff manage to make you feel welcome and comfortable. If you're looking for a great steak in particular or just a really good lunch or dinner, give The Caxton a go.

Came here during the Seafood Festival. I did not expect that nearly all the tables were booked. Therefore, I, who came without booking, got a table at the outside seating. It was nice and tucked away from the crowds, but accompanied by the very bright shining sun. Yet, despite the corner seating and the crowdedness, it was not hard to find the staff members and place an order.<br/><br/>Ordered a big seafood platter to share with my friends. Costs me $80, but it was worth it. The platter had various types of seafood, from oysters, scallops, crumbed fish, calamari, Kilpatrick, and fresh prawns. The platter also came with fruits for the desserts. The platter can fulfil three hungry adults easily.<br/><br/>Overall, it was a great experience. I am amazed at the prompt service and the food. I would like to come back and try out different menus in the future.
FOODIE ADVENTURE
We lined up at the door where bouncers were already checking ID early in the night so we knew what we would be getting into when we walked through the doors on game night. Inside is plenty of room which at the time we went was jam packed full of footy fans. We were waiting only a short while to be served our drinks in plastic cups (I'm sure just a safety measure for the night) and found our way to our own little less squashed place in the pack of patrons. It was noisy but this is the place to go if you wanted to feel the game ambience pre or post the match.

An afternoon fishing session wading in the cool waters of the North Pine Dam have left us ravenous. At 7pm this restaurant is bustling and we quickly place our orders. A 25 minute wait and our dinner is served. <br/><br/>*Our 400g Rump Steaks are nicely grilled rare and medium-rare. Accompanied with crisp Beer battered chips and Coleslaw our meals are good, rating a 4. <br/><br/>*The BBQ Beef Ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and is served with Mash, Coleslaw & Corn. A generous serving of 2 ribs, Paul Chan and I have a rib each. This dish is impressive and rates a Perfect 5. <br/><br/>Service is friendly and all our requests are attended to promptly. The Caxton offers great value meals at Lunch and Dinner and is highly recommended.

Without shame and based on the fact we only eat here Mondayâs and Tuesdayâs, this place is way bang for buck. I generally get the market fish which is usually barramundi or snapper with kipflers, For $15 itâs a good bang for buck place. Service is generally good and theyâre doing the place up. The Caesar salad with prawns is pretty epic too. Itâs one of my favourite places to get it.
Lu
We ordered two steaks. The steaks appeared grey and tasted bland, so we questioned how fresh they were. To make things worse, the accompanying sauces were extremely gluggy. The wait staff were friendly, although all 3 wait staff made errors in serving us - one girl got our order wrong, the 2nd brought mustards to our table but forgot to serve it to us, the 3rd served us mustard but served us the wrong ones. The staff just seem to lack training. Sorry Caxton but we remember your steaks to be much better. Somethingâs changed.

Had the tasting plate and BBQ beef ribs. The tempura prawn was a tad too thick with batter and a tad too greasy. Otherwise, the other items on the plate were pretty decent. The beef rib was flavourful, but I felt that the beef could be cooked longer for it to fall apart when pulled with a fork. They run some great promotions (1/2 price on ribs on Fridays) and I wouldn't mind coming back again to try their other dishes.
Jamin65
Great location and the room is good - inside and out, clean and comfortable. Food is average - I have been here a couple of times and with the best steak house in Brisbane just up the road, you would think they might take some tips - oh no - always average flavour and always over cooked - looks like they cook them the night before and then re-heat them. Wine list is average and service, while friendly, is slow and vague. Shame.
Around The City
I always come here when there are half price specials on Monday or 2 for 1 prices on Tuesday. You honestly cannot go wrong with such awesome deals. The beef ribs are still my favourite at this place and the sauce they are braised in taste so good. Fulfills my meat crave every time.
Andrew
We often take advantage of the Caxton's Tuesday 2 for 1 night, but I usually stuff myself and forget to write a review !. But tonight I have it covered, so always good service from the staff, explaining the 2 for 1 plus any blackboard special when you are seated. The steaks and ribs are what the Caxton is renowned for, but there is always other dishes like coral trout and lamp shanks as tonight's blackboard special. But I went for the 325gm rib eye and my partner the ribs. Both are served with choices of salad or coleslaw, jacket potato or fries, with choices of sauces. <br/>The ribs are always beautiful and fall off the bone, my steak if I had one negative was slightly over my requested medium, but all in all great value and great meals. Would be really surprised if you did not enjoy these meals at the Caxton.

Horrible food. The sea scallops were tasteless, the steak was over cooked, service was slow, food was too overpriced. Definitely not worth going to.

We visited the restaurant at The Caxton for lunch today (a Saturday). We were keen to try this well known pub while visiting Brisbane and we had a great time.<br/>Firstly, we noticed and appreciated the excellent service from every single member of staff we encountered.<br/>There is a large restaurant at the rear of the venue, from which you can just see neighbouring Suncorp Stadium. There is also a cafe/classic pub fare menu for another part of the venue.<br/>We ordered the 'crab 3 ways' entree to share, it was excellent. Soft shell crab, crab cake & crab dumpling with matching sauces.<br/>(Sorry, I forgot to take a photo & it was beautifully presented.)<br/>He had the seafood marinara which was reportedly excellent.<br/>I enjoyed the Thai style barramundi with green curry, which was very enjoyable. Not the fiery type of green curry I really enjoy at Thai restaurants, but nice and tasty, with beautifully cooked fish and crispy green vegetables.<br/>When paying our bill we were given 2 half price drinks vouchers.<br/>We wanted to purchase a restaurant voucher for our local friends, however they don't have these available, which surprised me for such a well known venue. (We bought one at the hotel across the road instead.)<br/>Given its proximity to Suncorp Stadium, they offer special food and drinks packages for game days. Apparently they are very popular and are extremely busy on these occasions.<br/>We thoroughly enjoyed our visit on a quiet Saturday.

My mates and I came here for a two for 1 dinner special on Tuesday night. Normal prices for a steak or Ribs was roughly about $36 which way too expensive. If you're going to pay that much for a steak you're better off going to a proper steak house such as Kingsleys, etc. However, two for 1 special was good value, steak was great as well as the Beef Ribs which were nice and tender off the bone. <br/><br/>Verdict: Definitely go there for the Tuesday night dinner specials, but don't pay the ridiculously expensive full price on other nights.
ABC Eater
After visiting this restaurant twice, I have never been disappointed with their steaks. I've been to a few steakhouses around brisbane and this place knows hw to cook their meat. Regardless if you visit on a specials night or paying normal prices, they are consistent with the quality and quantity of food.
Betty & Jason
My partner and I both ordered the 300g rib fillet steak on a Sunday night- medium rare. The steak was dry and tough and the mushroom sauce was watery and bland. For $35 I definitely would not return as the steaks are just terrible. The potato mash was just a potato wrapped in foil and completely doused in sour cream, it was flavourless. Definitely wouldn't recommend. Service was good
Lifelovetravelfood
Saturday night dinner at The Caxton - an alright experience but not amazing. I love the fact that they do food specials even on a Saturday so we immediately went for the steak. Terrific value for money that's for sure! The salad that comes with the steak is 99% lettuce with the smallest amount of carrot and other veges ever!! Seems like such a waste. Steaks were ok - not bad but definitely not as good as they used to be. It's all just a bit 'ok' these days.
Eating
We always come here for the BBQ beef ribs on the special days as it's always good value for money. Delicious beef ribs that comes with a very nice BBQ sauce. Not overly sweet like how most places have it. The only down side would be the inconsistency of portion sizes. One day it would be huge and other days it would be substantially smaller. Also when we ordered it today the corn that came with the ribs was quite burnt which doesn't normally happen. You would expect that a place like Caxton wouldn't have passed it as acceptable. The steak here is also cheap on special days and pretty decent and tasty for an inexpensive steak. Will be back! Grizzly Bear

not good at all. slow. greasy. not fresh.

Go anywhere else for food. Regrettably decided to stop in here for brunch on Sunday, my partner ordered the Parma, the chips were nice and that's the end of good points on the plate, the Parma was a big Brown greasy mess which tasted terrible, we couldnt make out any flavour over the filthy cheese and old oil used to deep fry it. I opted for the all day Breaky, the eggs could only be done one way no option for poached or scrambled just fried, sausages were disgusting, the 'homemade' hash cakes are the frozen bagged kind you can purchase from Coles and were deep fried in the same dirty oil as the Parma. With the exception of the bacon there was nothing good about the all day breakfast, it wasn't worth the 35 minute wait. Wouldn't ever eat here again, to be fair probably wouldn't drink here either, service was average.
Missanj
Deep fried plate of disappointment. My partner and I dined in the restaurant part of the hotel for lunch yesterday. Firstly, how do you screw up a Caesar Salad? My 'poached egg' was more like a hard boiled egg. The yolk was so dry that it matched my dry, over fried, stringy chicken. My disaster of a salad was also accompanied by two giant inedible crouton sticks which I could have thrown and taken someone's eye out with. My partner ordered the chicken parmigiana, again - deep fried, stringy chicken. The 'spicy tomato sauce' was flavourless with bits of capsicum in it - not sure if the capsicum was supposed to give it spice? God knows what kind of cheese was on top of the dreadful sauce - tasted like a powdered packet of cheese sauce - disgusting. At least the chips were edible. I would never dine here again. Save your money people - this place is dreadful.

Horrible. If the service was as bad as the food this place would be out of business.
Kris Birch
The food was average, the service was awful. We paid over $100 for the two of us to have a nice meal and the staff started stacking chairs and tables around us just as we got our meals. It was quite clear they wanted to go home. That's all fine and well, but it was 720pm on a Saturday night. After being made to feel so unwelcome, we won't be back.
Alison
Yum. I had the Pork Cutlet - amazing. So good. Service was fantastic, all the staff were very attentive yet not overly pushy. Have been to the Caxton a few times now and always have had a great meal.
Diner From Brisbane
Great value at the Caxton Chargrill. The meals are very generous, nicely presented and delicious. Service was professional and friendly, good menu selection and very pleasant decor. Couldn't ask for much more. Will be back.
Vincenzo
Beyond awful service!!! We watched the Brazil v Chile game there on the 28th of June. When the game drew and went into overtime they closed and kicked all of us watching the game out. We had a Chilean friend with us who was very distraught. The staff were so amazingly rude and smug about it we couldn't believe it. This was also after we had phoned ahead to ask if they would screen the game and they told us they would. The manager even laughed when we explained the situation to him. We had to cab to another restaurant to watch the rest of the game. For a sports bar this kind of behaviour is inexcusable, but it was the attitude of the staff that was unbelievable. We will never go here again.

Great specials every night. Ribs and rumps half price on fri and sat. Ribs are incredible. Huge portion of delicious, slow cooked BBQ pork ribs with corn and fries on the side. Definitely recommended!

Disgustingly Managed. Not sure how I would feel within working hours- but I just went to The Caxton Hotel at a later hour an was totally disgusted. Not only did the men stare at anything like it was a piece of meat, they blatantly abused female patrons into dancing/acting outside their comfort zone. I'm all for drunken banter, but the staff included literally treated any female within the space with no compassion whatsoever. Ugh so disgusting. Would rather spend my time in Lefty's any day
Adrian
Giant Steaks, Great price. If you're a guy that's into huge meat portions, then this is the place for you. We have been going for years, and still can't get over the size and quality of the (1) rump and (2) rib on the bone. If you're not into steak, then go for the ribs. <br/><br/>I don't like how they bring out a large salad to share on your table, rather then give individual potions, but otherwise, this place is great.<br/><br/>Don't bother anything other than the steak and ribs for mains.
IanG
Always the place to take a visitor!. Another great lunch on the weekend. The service, the menu, the drinks, the size and quality of all the meals were outstanding. I always have this on my list to take a visitor to Brisbane - and no one leaves disappointed. Many thanks. P.s. I don't need a visitor to get me down there on a regular basis!

Chicken and Moreton Bay Bug. The Moreton Bay bug was completely dried out . Terrible . Ruined the meal ...
Sarah 'Sez' Moroney
Awesome pork ribs!! Best we have tried and can't wait to go back there again. It was game night, but we still had excellent service. Could not fault this restaurant.
Linda
Amazing food! Great service and fantastic value. Highly recommend getting thick pork cutlet on crushed potatoe! Def will be returning!
Sylvia
Terrible food, very disappointed services.. Only selling point for the place is half price deal. Snapper mango curry way too salty, fish was half cooked, waitress has terrible attitude towards customer.
Anna
Terrible food, terrible service! Our Christmas party here was a disaster, the food was consistently poor across 15 people, steaks were well over done and not worth the price. The supervisor had a couldn't care less attitude. I will definitely not be recommending this place to anyone I know.
Scott Gow
Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.... Asked for a steak medium rare, a well done steak arrived at the table 45minutes later. I returned it to then be approached by the manager who informed me that the chef had said that was med rare. I pointed to another persons steak at my table who had ordered and received a medium rare and said the steaks were not even similar, the manager rolled his eyes and disappeared. Returning 10 minutes later with a rare end-cut of chewy inedible piece of beef (I assume, could not be sure). I returned that and told them not to bother. When I spoke to the manager he kept returning to the lie that the first steak was medium rare and would not acknowledge the chefs incompetence. Would not recommend The Caxton to anyone.

Good Size Steak. Our old local , Big steaks and fresh seafood , quality produce and well cooked, great service relaxing vibe to the place . we ate here about 10 times and always enjoyed it , would recommend this place :) enjoy :)
The Last Starfighter
Place to be for lunch! Steak wins!. Quite busy during lunch but the service is still delivered with a smile. I love eating here for lunch! The steaks are so cheap and for a jumbo point of rump..wow! <br/><br/>You get so much bang for your buck and the condiments they have available are second to none. I absolutely adore a medium rare steak with a selection of hot English mustard and horseradish but there is also quite a lot more to choose from. The side salads are very generous and the chips are the best in town hands down. Also this place has to have the coldest beer in town too that definitely puts the cherry on top.<br/><br/>Take my advice everyone, you will not be disappointed with what's to offer at the Caxton for lunch. Although be prepared to take a nap afterward. I normally only go when I am on a rostered day off and I make no plans afterward. :-)<br/><br/>Steak heaven!
Harry
Great restaurant. The Caxton hotel has a much better restaurant than what you would expect, with a fantastic menu, pretty good service and some great deals. Avoid the bars unless you're into meat heads.
Di Dee Finn
Bad fish. Ambience is good, service is good, great location, one thing wrong the baramundi fish was to be desired, tasted like frozen import
Wanderlust.kh00
Great weekly deals for a good steak.. Service never disappointments. Great location for beers on game/non game days.. Monday and Tuesday 2for1

Ate at Char Grill for first time last week and had a fantastic meal. Had the seafood linguine - they weren't kidding about the fresh seafood. I could honestly taste the ocean with every mussell, fish, prawn piece that was in there. Yummmmm. Had been to Caxton many a time for drinks over the years but never ate at Char Grill. Glad I finally did. My friend was happy with her Mango Curry Snapper too.
Petra R
Been only twice so far - always a great service and very understanding about individual needs (Im gluten intolerant and also pregnant at the mo)! Food is very testy and of a good quality. One of the best steaks I've ever had was in Caxton.

There's a reason why they are offering $20 lunches.... Have just returned from lunch with my husband and daughter (Saturday afternoon). We were hunting for somewhere for lunch, and thought we'd try somewhere new that is semi local. What a disappointment! <br/><br/>My husband visits the Caxton after work some days s we thought we'd try our luck with the food. We had both asked for the fish of the day, but with chips and salad instead of the usual sides. We were told that was fine, no problem. However, when we received our food we got the usual fish of the day from the menu plus a side of chips each. <br/><br/>The fish of the day is served with a potato cake, rocket salad, some kind of rocket pesto/salsa verde type sauce and a capsicum purée. The flavours combined were just disgusting! I had to send mine back as I couldn't stomach any of it and my husband struggled through his fish, but left the rest. The whole dish just had way too many flavour combos going on and none of them good to start with, let alone combined. <br/><br/>The highlight of our visit was our daughter's pizza, which was made from fresh ingredients. Shame they do not offer pizzas on their main menu as that seems to be all the chefs are capable of cooking given the other reviews on here as we'll. <br/><br/>To top it all off, come time to pay we were told that then supervisor could not remove the price of my in edible fish from the bill but gave 25% discount. Meaning, we were still charged for both crappy fish dishes and two sides of chips we asked for instead of the rest of the dish to start with. Not impressed, and certainly won't be visiting the Caxton again.
Dan
I received the worst steak I have ever had in my life here last week. Then I sent it back and got the second worst steak I've ever had. It cost $32. I would not have paid 30c for it if I had the choice. This pub is beyond help. It needs a new owner, a new chef and a new kitchen. Avoid at all costs.

If you crave average, it's the top pic.. Being almost local, I have ventured into the Char Grill Restaurant many times. Lunch for under $20 for a large steak is a fair deal and this is not a bad choice if you are hungry and don't want to eat a large meal later. Dinner at the Grill seems to be a very different matter. Went last night and can't help but feel it's all a bit average, even for the Monday Mates Rates price charged. Waiter was sort of rude, but not so much so that you could complain, just sort of surly. Asked to move to another table as the air con was blowing cold wind on me, and it was a chilly night. Even though we had been seated for only a minute, it was all too hard to move us, at the time just me and a mate, expecting two more any time. It was like 'GOD, you should just sit there and freeze'. Ah, no I shouldn't especially when there are plenty of spare tables and I booked during the day.<br/>3 of us had steak. It was OK. Nothing really special at all, sort of all a bit stodgy, large chunks of meat and lacking taste. The 4th bloke had chicken and a half bug. He said it was good, but the sauce was smothering it all and provided much of the flavour. <br/>If you are after average, this is a good choice. For me, it's going to be quite some time before I go back, if ever. Perhaps a lunch some time if I feel super hungry and don't have a choice, but that's it for me. Oh yeah, and bad luck if you are a non drinker, such as me and the mates I went with last night. 2 of us are in training the other two simple don't drink. I was made feel like a villain because I told the lady at the counter we were not drinkers after she offered half priced drinks in the upper bar after I just paid for dinner. Sorry lady for not contributing further to the Farquhar Family fortune, but that's my choice not yours.

The Char Grill: Three meals were had, the consensus was a vote of sub par. The special crumb barra was overcooked and over priced at $28. Basically, over priced fish and chips. I had the scotch fillet with bug and prawns...sounds yum right? If size is your thing..it was HUGE. However, if flavours are preferred...it was BLAND. But wait...not all doom and gloom. The kids meal of snapper strips & chips were actually quite nice. So, overall...if you like HUGE BLAND meals...enjoy. We shan't be returning.
Jack Donald
Went here for half price monday had the steak and hadnt eaten all day first time never not been able to finish a steak so well done great friendly service from a young lady from my hometown which was more then good

Highly recommended!. I ordered the snapper curry and nearly died.. from sheer delight. I forgot what my partner ordered but he scoffed his down and couldn't keep his fork out of my food. We came in on the tuesday night early and got a park, but the place filled up really quick. The staff were so friendly and consistently, not annoyingly, checked to make sure we were alright and even delivered beers to the table. Can't wait to come back. 10/10 service 10/10 food and its located in a nice place to stroll off the dinner.

Stay away from the lasagne. I ordered the "beef" lasagne for dinner. I received a huge stack of lasagne sheets and cheese with maybe a tablespoon of beef scattered through it. I've never had a worse lasagne. The poor excuse for a salad was a scattering of lettuce with a couple of cherry tomatoes and a pile of greasy chips. Won't be back any time soon!

Love the Steaks. Great value steaks on Friday night. We just keep going back. Fast friendly service. Irish waiter gives great service and good for a laugh.

Game day experience. Some friends and I decided to have lunch earlier in the day before a game day. I knew that the place would be loud, packed, and that our meals would take a while, so thats not what bothered me. For starters the tables were SO squished together that my head was brushed by the waiters rear ends every time they squeezed through (which happened to be every couple of minutes), the menu was a piece of paper with limited options (as expected on game day) but the prices were just the same as always which is lame if you ask me given that you have to wait longer, and won't enjoy the experience as much as what you would normally. After waiting a while, which we expected, we received 3 x rock hard steaks. I couldnt even cut through mine. It tasted okay, but I couldn't bloody cut it! So I stuck with my chips, my friends porterhouse on the other hand was both rock hard, and had an unusual taste. He's not the type to complain either, but he did. The chef apparently tasted it, and the manager. What a croc, as if you'd taste a steak thats been in contact with someone else's mouth, that would be a safe and healthy breach. In the end we had to pay full price, and the manager was very very rude about it. To be honest, we didn't even care that we had to pay full price, it would have been nice though if the guy admitted that we got a crap meal, and apologised. It's his very rude attitude that'll prevent me from going there again as I know that I'd probably enjoy a meal there on a non game day. Great job dude.
Halfadozenmarsbars
Ordinary. This site should have an ordinary button as the Caxton would certainly tick that box. Generally I've only been on a cheap Tuesday or two for one Wednesday and this place is a classic example of pub grub that is an exercise in refuelling rather than actual enjoyment. <br/><br/>Don't get me wrong, its not bad, its just ordinary.
Sorcha
Great value $10 meals on Sundays, but the choice was a little uninspiring. Those meals were from the Streetcafe bit, we haven't visited the Chargrill bit yet. I clicked on "like" because the food was fine for $10 but the eating environment was less than special. More a pub than a restaurant, but if that's what you want it's perfect.
Che
My wife and I had booked our engagement party there and on the night were kicked out by security after we paid. We refused to leave and grand parents and friends were frog marched into the awaiting police van!!! Disgusting

Terrible place for functions!!. Do not bother with even having small function with this establishment. Management simply do not communicate and the night manager on the night of the function had no idea of what we had organised with the function manager during the weeks leading up. He was also rude and unprofessional in his dealings on the night. Wrote a letter of complaint, but a waste of ink. The owners basically wrote us off and 'expected' us to not recommend them (they said that!). Place is only good for drunken football supporters, as they certainly don't care the other aspects of their business. Oh, I tell everyone about this poor excuse for a hotel (iconic? ha!).

Have been here a fair few times and I usually have the same feeling- full but ripped off. Last night was the last straw... For a change ordered the chicken main. It was over cooked and dry, the prawns tasted like they had been sucked out of the Brisbane river and for the money I was very disappointed. Sorry, but I won't be going back... For the money there are so many options that are just so much better. 3/10

Steak overcooked, on the upside there was a decent amount of it. Tomatoes in salad tastes just a little too old. Any specials are capped at $100 off the total bill so beware bringing a table of friends mid-week.

The caxton's a good spot to zip up to from the city for a quick lunch. The midweek specials are preet good value. The tiger prawns were good.

Great steaks and good midweek specials

With expectations that the mains would be huge, we skipped the entrees and went straight for the steak.

To all the beef-eaters: which is your favourite steak restaurant in Brisbane? Cha Cha Char, Normanby, Moo Moo, Morrison, Norman, Pineapple, Caxton or Breakfast Creek? Or we should be fair to separate into two categories first? The Pub Dining and The Fine
MEL: HOT OR NOT
Often one of the top picks for Friday lunch for me and the boys in the office (due to geographical convenience and the fact that they sell beer) The Char Grill at Caxton Hotel is a Brisbane icon, particularly around this time of year with State of Origin.
