Review The Euro - Brisbane

Damian Kelleher (DK)
I went her with my wife on a Friday evening. It was to be our last hurrah as a childless couple. She is due to have a child very soon, which consequently means we were somewhat limited in food choices. However - we ordered normal items without modification, so I am confident in what I am about to say. Nothing was exceptional. Nothing surprised. Nothing wowed. All of the dishes were competent without being sterling examples of the craft. No boundaries were pushed. No concepts were polished to an immaculate sheen. Given that - why the price? What am I paying for? Food done reasonably well? I can get that for half the price. At these price points ($40s for a main) I expect either something I have never had before, or an elevated dish beyond the skill set of ordinary craftsmen chefs. Alas, alas - no. The pasta wasn’t cooked sufficiently. The lamb was cold and the fat was not properly rendered. The veal tataki was good, but needed better seasoning. The desert was a chocolate cake - so, adequate The service was fine but our primary waiter was very quiet and hard to hear. He topped up our water fairly often, which I guess is desirable. Overall, I was left wanting. We should not be saying to ourselves after a mouthful or two that the dish needs more salt. We should not be wondering whether we should have just stayed home. Ah, well. I guess as a last meal it was something. The company at least was rather lovely.

Amazing place, the quality, the food, the service were all perfect! We enjoyed our wine paring 6 course menu. It was fantastic, we had a memorable night.

We really wanted to be upstairs but there was a function on (website not updated and neither was that area cordoned off. I only found out I could not sit there when I sat down). So we sat downstairs overlooking the laneway area. I found the prices quite high and the portions small. Having said that, the food was really tasty. We didn't eat a lot - just had the Confit Duck consomme with potato, and the Potato Gnocchi with mushrooms. The latter had a little too much cream for my liking but it was quite pleasant. The wine was expensive but much the same per glass an any upmarket bar. I think this would be a good place to be if you wanted to splash out and spoil your other half for a romantic meal out.

Our waitress was very good. The wine we wanted had sold out, so she arranged a much better bottle for the lower price. That shows job satisfaction and management that want to go beyond expectations. The food was good and what I would expect from similar priced establishment.

I find it very ordinary for a fancy restaurant. Doesn't have that Whao factor. Just simple good ingredients, nothing technical. Nothing fancy.

Exquisite 8 course degustation with matching wine of extraordinary quality & freshness. The service was exceptional! Cannot recommend highly enough, will definitely be back. Thank you.

Nice food & wine and great staff

Had originally booked it’s sister restaurant Urbane for dinner and had to change to lunch with change in travel arrangements. We were not disappointed. The staff are excellent. Really disappointed by degustation last night. Menu was different to what we were told. Suppose to be 3 seafood and 3 meat. Was 2 vegetarian, 2 seafood, 2 meat. A couple of dishes were pretty average.

Have long had The Euro on my list of places to try, especially after eating at Urbane earlier in the year. Thinking that as such an established institution it would be around for years still, I kept it on the list for a later date, but only until I realised it would be permanently closing after Christmas this year. At which point I made immediate plans to go. My first reservation with Iron Fist was thwarted due to a storm the night before which meant they couldn't hold the next day's lunch service, luckily another companion of mine, ,the Enigmatic L, decided that it was time for us to go there for a cozy Saturday night dinner.

This is our 2nd visit and sad to say it's very disappointing. So different from our 1st visit in March this year. Not sure if the kitchen management has changed but certainly not the same standard. 7 major disappointments tonight. (1) Portions were extraordinarily small (2) Bread that came out was cold and hard (3) 2 of our guests ordered the same dish (Grilled Snapper) and the portions of both dishes were so different that we nearly sent it back. It was so obvious simply looking at them, anyone could see it let alone a professional kitchen (4) Ordered a grilled Beetroot dish as a main which came out COLD??!! Don't they know it's winter time and why don't they tell us that this is a COLD dish for a MAIN?? (5) The leek dish came out and you could hardly chew on it and it was tasteless. Like chewing on shoelaces! Sorry, but this is so disappointing. (7) The Quale dish came out looking cold and uncooked. Tasted like it looked. (8) The Creme Brule was watery on the inside and was tasteless. On the plus side...front staff were great...You really need to re-think and get your act together before we will come back.

Had the 5 course degustation today. 3 out of 5 meals were really good, but the other 2 was a miss (the taste profile just wasn’t spot on.. a bit too salty.. too sweet, mismatch.. beef a bit dry and tough). Atmosphere was good but not amazing. Waiter is very attentive and polite.

We did a Groupon 5 courses degustation with matching wine last Friday. It was a good experience. Firstly, booking had some issues as Groupon told us to use Groupon booking website, but the Euro only checks bookings from dimmi or phone call. If anyone get Groupon deal with them, please call them, ignore the Groupon instruction I guess. <br/>The meal was fancy. Every course matches a different wine. Wine tasting is interesting, but you might get tipsy or be full by wine before finishing the meal. Lamb dish was a bit under cooked, super chewy, I have to spit it out. Corn Risotto (no photo) is a bit salty. Melon sorbet in the dessert was not my taste. Anyway, I love the rest, especially 2 seafood courses: squid and fish plus the service.

Had a really lovely experience here with my wife and I on date night. The food was amazing, however the drinks came out a little slow. I also ordered a gin they didn’t have which was changed to something else. When we got the bill the more expensive gin was still on there, however they changed it and comped is an extra $10.

Being served tiny plate after tiny plate of food is one of my favourite ways to get full… but I degust. As the number of dishes add up, so too usually does the price. There are affordable degustation options available around town though, and we decided to try one out. The Euro in Brisbane city offers a signature six course degustation for $95, just keeping it under that magic $100 mark.

We tried the 6 course degustation at The Euro and were not disappointed. The dishes were interesting without being over the top, and the flavours were combined very well. I'd say the first five courses were excellent and very interesting, and the dessert was fine but not as exciting. The only negative was maybe the ambience, which was quite muted on a Tuesday night - I'd recommend turning the music up slightly as we could clearly hear conversations from two tables away. Other than that, the service was great (thanks Anna), and we're definitely keen to try out their fancier cousin Urbane.
Amy
Amazing service and food. I had the fish which was absolutely gorgeous and my husband had the duck. He always orders the duck if it’s on the menu and we are fine dining and he said it was absolutely faultless. Very attentive staff and a great wine list. We will be back
Sophie Phipps
Great wait staff, good environment, prompt service. Dwe had degustation - tartare was nice, fettuccini was undercooked but sauce was lovely, king fish was over cooked (m/w) but accompaniments nice, braise beef was incredible! High light of the evening.

I got served up a rubber ducky. Literally their Roasted Duck Breast was like chewing on boot leather. At $45 that is not cool at all. Also I sent it back and had to watch my wife eat alone while I awaited another rubber duck to be served. Yes the second one was slightly more tenderised boot leather.  This restaurant is too focused on trying to be exclusive and uppity, rather than focus on quality. Who ever orders the produce, needs to sample the goods. The customer services most mostly attentive, however I felt that the service staff were ill equipped to make a judgement call when a customer complains. They should have immediately offered to start my wife's meal from scratch, instead they throw in a couple of free drinks.....such a cliche resolution and lacks customer value.  Would I return, not a chance. Would I recommend this to anyone, yes I would recommend it to The Euro proprietor/s, head chef, and lead service staff, so that they can perform a solid assessment of how they would like to position themselves moving forward. A nice space, with "ok" service and substandard quality food for very hefty prices.

I am writing to give a bit of feedback of my recent visit. I dined in there on Friday night. I had 6 course degustation, they were divine. Loving them. <br/><br/>However, I found a big fish bone in one of the course, it was a real let down. It could be very dangerous as we expected that to be fish boneless to start with. I informed one of your staff, I felt she could have handled it in a better way. At first, she just said I would tell the chef without showing any concern if any of the fish bone got me. Then she turned around and apologised but I couldn't feel the sincerity at all. <br/><br/>Being one of the top restaurants in Brisbane, I was very disappointed in the service. I dined in at Urbane two weeks ago, I enjoyed it very much. That was why, I came back to The Euro. Maybe I shouldn't have done it. It changed my impression totally now.

WARNING! They cut corners in ingredients and overcharge customers. I just had top 3 worst dining experience of my life, before I start I should mention I bought a Groupon deal ($210, 8-course degustation for two people), so I was ready for a catch such as cutting corners in ingredient or serving size, but not on so many levels. First, the menu is not as promised, I understand that there is a thing called “seasonal change”, but it is not a seasonal change when they replace duck and pork dishes with vege risotto and a dessert (so my wife and I had two desserts in total). Moreover, when I was asking for recommendation of drinks, the waitress only recommended the high price items, did not ask questions of what we like, straight to the point of taking more of our money. When checking out, they added 2 bottles of sparkling water ($20) without informing us, I immediately refused to pay on two basis, legally, they can not offer items without advising all associated costs, and later charge it as they wish, that's why we have a menu, and the funny thing is they topped up our water with an open bottle and walked away with it, they just made up two bottles out of thin air. Also culturally I have never been to a fine dining restaurant where I have to pay for drinking water, flat or sparkling. It's disgusting that they cut corners in the menu, but also try to scam us where possible.

Visited for the first time last night. Although we had to wait for a few minutes upon entering the restaurant before anyone took us to our tables, the service for the rest of the night was good. Before dining here, we checked the online menu and was looking forward to a few of the choices up on offer. It was disappointing to see that that menu was not up to date and we had to make other choices instead. The serving size for both the starters and mains were smaller than expected considering the price, but food itself was cooked well.
Betty & Jason
Enjoyed a lovely Friday night here. The gnocchi was delicious, soft and cheeses while the smoked pork was tender and flavourful, particularly with the condiments. Each of the mains were cooked to perfection and had different flavour bursts, with the steak and kangaroo cooked perfectly. Service was fantastic and the food arrived promptly, definitely a favourite and will be returning!
Rebecca
A nice place for a meal, beautifully presented, tasty and great service but nothing too special about it all. I definitely recommend the beef for the main.
Angie St Kilda
Just excellent. <br/>Arrived in Brisbane with no knowledge of this place, as a walk-in I received excellent service, a wonderful selection of wine and tucked into a mouthwatering beef dish: Jack’s Creek Grass Fed Rump Cap, Smokey Mash, Gilled Shallot, Madeira Sauce. The next day I was told how lucky I was to have been able to get a table, apparently this is a very sought-after venue. Understandably.

A great dining experience for the 2 of us from the moment we booked to when we finished up our meal.  There was a friendly welcome before we entered and we were shown to our seat straight away.  The ambience is nice and we felt relaxed in a casual atmosphere.  The choice and variety of dishes on the menu from starters to mains is just right and the presentation / taste of the food was outstanding.  Service was prompt - we sat down at 7pm and had our mains before 8pm.  Only one minor downside was the speed at which they handed the bill over, literally one minute after we told them we wouldn't order desert and we still had more than half a glass of wine left  the bill was plonked on the table - they appeared in a hurry to get us out, but we were told there was no time limit on the table when we arrived.  Anyway, their loss not ours as we took our drinking elsewhere.  Other than that we really enjoyed the evening.

I organised a birthday dinner for my husband a few years ago and we had a large group of 15 people.  The staff there are very helpful and easy to talk to and we came up with a 2 course menu and they even agreed to bake a cake for him!  On the night, service was attentive and friendly and for such a large group, we didn't have to wait long for our 2 course meal.  The food was very tasty with good seasoning and my husband loved the zucchini flowers with goat's cheese.  Lighting is a little dark but otherwise the ambience is nice and cosy.

My partner, (who was diagnosed with liver cancer two years' ago), booked us a table at The Euro. A rare chance for us to get away from our bucolic existence in Byron Shire and explore the urban wonders of Brisbane. I made a call: Digby is 'special needs' .. can't eat sugar, wheat, animal products blah blah ... the lady on the phone assured me that Daniel would take care of us. Daniel did. We were treated like royalty on Friday night (it's Saturday now ... you get the picture). Daniel was unobtrusively by our side the entire night, ensuring that we knew exactly what we were getting. It was subtle but powerful. The food: well, it made memories. I had the Mulloway (don't get me started or you will start to drool over your screen) ... Digby's dinner was a wonderful amalgam (don't think fillings) of the cornucopia on offer and it was constructed like a fine work of art. Piece by piece. Strange but welcome noises began at first ... not growls but purrs of pleasure. I'm not sure we spoke actually. The sensory overload was too exquisite. And while we lost all sense of time and space there was Daniel ensuring that our experience was kept grounded in the blissful present and that we did not get carried away because he knew the brief and he kept us on track without denying us any pleasure experienced by those without special needs. PS DO NOT NOT ORDER THE SMOKEY MASH.

This was our second visit to The Euro and we were not disappointed. Great pairing of flavours, colours and textures definitely makes the whole greater than the sum of its parts. I found a few dishes like the calamari were a bit lackluster for the price but the experience definitely takes you beyond the standard and is well worth the return trip.
The Invisible Food Critic
Excellent restaurant in Brisbane CBD. Definitely another top dining place on the map of Brisbane. Although a little pricy but quality is there and every cent is worth the experience here. Catering all types of venues, it's considered as one of the best around!

The ever largest veal cutlet in my life. As the sister restaurant of Urbane, a two hatted restaurant and voted top 10 restaurant in Brisbane, Euro already gives me enoughconfident prior to to visit. Indeed, it won't let me down from the very begining of entree to the unbelievable hugh main dish of veal cutlet. Sorry, it is the first time that there is no room for any dessert or coffee. I have to give my compliment to the chefs (should be the same as Urbane), they really made the dishes by heart. I appreciate their attitudes and wish they will always be the leading restaurant in Brisbane.

We had a really nice dinner here last night. My mushroom ravioli entree was amazing, one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. We also got the chicken liver parfait which was nice but not amazing. For mains we got the pork shoulder and sirloin. The pork shoulder was melt in your mouth, and a huge serving. Very much comfort style. The sirloin was nice, however a bit too much fat for my taste. Service is not amazing, we constantly had to flag down our waitress, who also didn't have the best attitude.

Amazing food. Amazingly BAD service! I went for lunch with my colleagues yesterday afternoon & were 1 of 2 tables the staff needed to wait on...but where were they?! We couldn't get a drink & struggled to get their attention. The first 2 wines we decided on weren't available & no alternatives offered. After lunch when we decided to move on to another, more attentive establishment & told the waitress (Sarah) how disappointed we were with the service, she couldn't muster an "I'm sorry", any explanation for what the staff were doing, or even a smile. "I'll pass that feedback on"- to who? It's for YOU.

Exciting and Satisfying. Went here for a special occasion - it started off shaky but ended on a high note. <br/><br/>To begin - we had made reservations at Urbane, the sister restaurant right next door. Upon arriving to Urbane, the front doors were locked so we went inside of The Euro to see what was up....turns our Urbane is closed on Tuesdays and for some reason they still accepted our reservations without letting us know we would be seated at The Euro. Not a great move Urbane - communicate with your patrons, good customer service pays off. <br/><br/>Slip-ups like that can be off-putting, especially when you have your heart set on something and then things get switched on you without any explanation and no one wanting to take responsibility for a silly mistake. <br/><br/>Now the food! We had the vegetarian degustation menu - 5 courses for $90 a person. I would rate the food around "very good" but not outstanding. I've had better and was hoping that Urbane/The Euro would be able to match my previous experiences at other restaurants. I suppose you could say I had higher expectations, nonetheless the food was really good minus the overly seasoned tempeh. I'm not going to lie - I was pretty disappointed to be served tempeh considering there are so many other creative and show-stopping dishes a chef could come up with. I realize many chefs loathe cooking for vegetarians (I'm not one by the way), but the truth is - I've had better and was hoping for that. <br/><br/>Dessert was excellent. A mandarin parfait that cannot be adequately described with words. It was the best thing I ate there all night and was the perfect way to end the meal. <br/><br/>Service: Good service - unfortunately the time we had to wait between each course was quite long. I realize it takes time for a chef to cook up a degustation menu, but waiting 20 minutes between each meal adds up. We spent more than half of our time there waiting, whether it was for drinks or for the next dish. <br/><br/>I realize there is a negative tone throughout this entire review and I suppose it is because of the shaky start combined with the lack of superb customer service and hoping the food would blow me away to la-la land. <br/><br/>For you meat eaters, I'm pretty sure you would have a fantastic experience so give this worthy place a try.

Everywhere else; step up.. This place was perfect. From the moment I made the booking to the moment I walked (rolled) out the door. All of our meals were generous, delicious, balanced and I could have licked the plate. My entre (pictured) was ravioli with truffle crumble and my main was the pork. Both meals were simply divine. OMG-worthy (and I never write those letters). It wasn't cheap, but who cares. It could have been my last meal and I would have died happy. Actually, I did have one issue that I raised with the waitress and chef at the time; the cheesecake wasn't described as deconstructed but when it arrived, it clearly was absolutely deconstructed. Perhaps diners may take a step back from it if they expected something different. Nevertheless, it tasted amazing. I don't want to take away the magnificence of this place, so I might have to make an annual booking. No - one visit per financial quarter. DONE.

My favourite restaurant in Brisbane. I love this place and have loved this place for years! Never disappointed when I come here, the food is always beautiful, not pretentious and well presented. The service is great and I have not found anywhere else in Brisbane that I enjoy as much.

Lovely lovely lovely. Husband and I dined on Friday 12 December. Service was excellent. Food especially entrée superb. Very nice restaurant for a special night out. Quite expensive with wines but worth saving up for.

Fantastic Food. Extensive and Expensive wine list.. Ate the degustation which is really a taster - all superb, happy to part with $80 each.<br/>Wine list + is extensive and spans the globe. Plenty of boutique wines.<br/>Wine List - Very expensive, as is the bar, few wines

Stumbled upon this gem by chance. So glad we did.. Were looking for somewhere to eat and by looking for The Laneway Bar, stumbled into The Euro below. There was a function in The Laneway, so we happily took a table at The Euro. And gosh, so glad we did. Fantastic food (the pork shoulder was phenomenal), great wine and cocktails and absolutely beautiful service. The wait staff perfectly straddled the line between attentiveness and aloofness that is expected from such an establishment. The floor manager, whom we spoke with after our meal, was also lovely. I will absolutely return. Ignore the bad reviews, give this place at least once chance and, if not to be pleasantly surprised, make up your own mind. You won't regret it regardless, as it's one of the finer establishments in the often bland Brisbane CBD.
Natalie
Wonderful food, great wine selection and very professional staff. Highly recommend The Euro!

I thought being associated with urbane and having a veg*n chef would mean good for vegetarians. Unfortunately no. 1 main, no entrées. Second main offered to and accepted by us, which we appreciated but it would have been good to have more vegetarian options listed. There was also a vegetarian entrée if you removed the jamon, but it wasn't so appealing to us - cold soup on a cool spring night. The desserts we tried were okay, but not exceptional. Don't think we will be back to euro, and not very enticing for us to visit Urbane.
The Food Oracle
Everything was very good, perfectly executed but just not very exciting - classic. We went here for a nice anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. It is classic modern Australian at its best.<br/>The restaurant is beautiful, the ambience was lovely but the view was not really worth looking at. <br/><br/>The cured salmon starter was absolutely divine, the salmon melted on your tongue. We also had an appetiser, the jamon and condiments; it was fine, nothing amazing. In retrospect we would have ordered a double helping of the salmon.<br/><br/>For mains I had the pork shoulder and hubby had the barramundi. Both were absolutely beautiful, flawless. I am salivating just thinking of those meals again. The pork should was so tasty but a little more sauce would not have gone astray. The barramundi was incredibly succulent and went perfectly with the accompaniments. We paired the meals with shoestring fries and green beans with confit shallots. Both were great. I do wish they had thickly cut chips instead of shoestring fries, but that is just my own preference.<br/>By dessert we were so full we shared a mandarin parfait. It was very nice, nothing outstanding but nothing wrong either.<br/><br/>Overall an excellent meal, the waitress with an accent was absolutely lovely. The waiter was fine, a bit brusque considering the place, but nothing awful.
Gjwaites
We were very disppointed. Looked great from the street and we wanted to spoil ourselves. Unfortunately the staff think they more valued than the guests. Both entree's were great but the Cottoletto maincourse dry and dry. No one comes to ask if you are happy. Not sure how they are allowed to serve all the main courses on timber boards. The boards are a piece of old pine wood and stained (grubby) from all the different food they have had on them. The wine list is extensive and very very expensive. At this price point I expect a sommelier with a bit of knowledge about the product. Two wines requested were unavailable the the 3rd attempt the waitress brought the Shiraz not the Cabernet as requested. The room is nice the greeting is blunt and on a cold night who needs it. We were sat by the front door and cold wind blew us away each time the door opened. I would not return nor recommend. Tried Cha Cha char the next night and wow what a contrast same price point just polished and interested in business.

I made a reservation here for my partner and my anniversary dinner. We were both very excited and I was anxious for it to be good for this occasion. We arrived early but were happy to go to the bar for a pre-dinner drink. We were greeted when I said our name and reservation time the waiter could not find our booking and questioned us as to whether we were at the right place!! I knew we were as it had been confirmed earlier that day. Another waiter came along and found our booking and we were shown straight to our table. We were to be served by the waiter who originally greeted us we ordered a cider each and he returned opened and poured our drinks and then proceeded to inform us that he had gotten a different cider for us, as the one we had chosen was not chilled however it was "the same price point." We feel that the waiter just said this to cover his mistake of getting our order wrong. If not, and drinks ordered are not available the customer should be informed and given the option to make another selection. We shared pork belly for entree, had veal cutlet and eye fillet for mains, and shared deconstructed pavlova for dessert. We ordered a nice bottle wine however entree came and went with no wine, then our waiter asked us if we would like to order another drink at which point I had to remind him about our wine. Overall we really enjoyed the food at the Euro but were disappointed by the service. There didn't seem to be a maitre d' and our waiter did not provide the sort of service we expected. Because of this our experience at the Euro was not a positive one and we will not be back.
Mike
Disappointing. One hour the be server. 2/3 courses so disappointing (pork belly; apple crumble) I did not eat them. Staff friendly. Great wine list and ambiance.
Benn
Overpriced. This place was recommended by a friend. We had lunch there. Good selection of beers a bit pricey though (around $9 for a small glass). I ordered the beef burger for $20. There were no sides and the burger was average. Disappointed, will not return.
Hugo
Very nice. Been there twice now, love the bar, the starters and entrees. Made the same mistake again this time, by the time we got the mains I was full but it looked good. Staff always knowledgable and pleasant.<br/>Hugo

Perfect Valentines Dinner. Went to Euro for Valentines Day dinner as couldn't get into their sister restaurant Urbane and I'm so glad we did. The degustation dinner was wonderful, sensational flavours, melt in the mouth food served with just that appropriate amount of time between courses, friendly and attentive staff.<br/><br/>The staff apologised for any delays in our meal and explained that they were a staff member short. However, we actually didn't even notice there was a delay but maybe that's because of the company I had to talk to at the dinner table.
Norman Gourmet
Great decor, impeccable service but disappointing food. The restaurant was not very full on a Monday evening. The waiters were thus not rushed and the service was excellent. For starters we wanted to try the Bangalow pork croquettes but they were out and we settled for the suggested beef croquettes instead. All in all, a nice presentation but the fat used for deep-frying appeared to be old and the flavour was somewhat rancid.<br/>We had 4 different mains, again all 4 were well presented but something was seriously lacking. The WA barramundi was tasteless, the porchini ravioli were OK, the 'cotoletta' huge but greasy and the lamb shoulder lacked all seasoning. The accompanying chimichurri was bland but salty.<br/>We did not try any of the deserts and will not be back. There are many better restaurants in Brisbane in this price range.
AlexTheKid
Went for a midweek dinner. The atmosphere is nice and the staff unobtrusive. The menu didn't interest me greatly so I went with two entrees. I actually laughed when my partner received his sous vide lamb. It was listed on the menu as sous vide lamb with a sauce. That's all you got. Not even a decent garnish. For $40 give me a break. Also the waiter didn't advise that it was just meat on a plate quite literally. It wasn't an issue but I expected a meal. Or at least tell me I need to order sides. Won't be back until the menu has had a rethink.
Simon M
Booked in for the valentines day 4 course degustation and it frustrates me that it cost close to $300 for what we received which is after being comped for two glasses of wine. Absolutely abysmal.<br/><br/> Waited over an hour for the second course whilst other tables were sporadically served and overlooked. The final 3 dishes were rushed although I wasn't too unhappy about this.<br/><br/>The food was good however, not nearly as good as the price requires. The waitress was apologetic and lovely which is the only saving grace.<br/><br/>Euro - if your kitchen can't handle this type of event then just stick to what you know. <br/><br/>First and last time at Euro. Life's too short.
Foodieinheels
Expect to leave on a low note at The Euro - desserts are woeful. The chocolate mousse is served in a brown plastic plant pot with a strawberry on it. Creme catalana (brûlée) wasn't set and lacked a vanilla bean flavour. Entrees were lovely but don't get the schnitzel for main unless you want a pub meal (which looks the part) at fine dining prices. I think The Euro under chef Kym Machin's reign was much better than the current Alex Cancino so I won't even bother going to Urbane again to avoid being disappointed! You gotta question whether you can trust the raving reviews from Gourmet Traveller when the restaurant that was #1 in qld for years recently closed down!
Rachel
Absolutely delicious and amazing service!!

Great. This is a special place run by people who know how to run a good restaurant and bar. The food is excellent, the service is friendly and efficient without the patronising "Aren't we sophisticated" looks of some restaurants and they have probably the best beer menu of any restaurant in Brisso, as well as a good wine selection.
DianaW
Diana. Noticed this little alcove complete with coffee cart during a morning jog by the river. Evidently it is part of the Urbane atempt to grab the morning coffee custom. The coffee is organic Vittorio & is only $3 so quite a bargain. A little weak for my taste though
Linda
Came here for lunch today. We made a reservation for 1.30pm unfortunately the staff forgot to book us in. Although they still managed to get us a table right on time. The food here is amazing! Would definately come back. Was a great dining experience!

Waiting, waiting, waiting. What a popular place The Euro was on a recent Saturday night. Brimming really. Big groups and small, partiers and the chilled. Convivial indeed except for the unceasing din they created. Which isn't bad if the restaurant you are at has soft furnishings designed to absorb the noise.<br/>If like The Euro however, everything is hard surfaced,..... well let's just say lip reading would have been a handy skill to allow conversations with guests across the table.<br/>That annoyance coupled with the interminable delays in providing service ruined a pleasant eating experience. <br/>I delight in restaurants with knowledgeable sommeliers. I struggle with waiting 10 minutes for said sommelier to grace the table with his presence, then waiting 10 minutes more for a different waiter to bring the selected bottle to the table. Especially as we sat with entrée on the table and NO wine in the glasses!!!!<br/>Hopefully the lack of any tip with a near 600 dollar bill will have alerted them to the displeasure. Doubtful though, they seemed a bit run off their feet.

Can't fault it. The Euro was a truly delightful dining experience. Every aspect was exceptional. The restaurant has a dimly-lit romantic ambiance that provides an environment for a good conversation with your co-diner. Our waitress for the evening had the perfect balance of attentiveness without being annoying whatsoever. The cocktails were priced suitably for the quality of the ingredients used. And last but not least, the food was sensational. I had the salmon gravalax entree and the handmade salmon pasta as my main. I initially thought that two salmon dishes may have been a bad choice, but my reservations were instantly dispelled the minute i had tasted the entree then the main. The entree was gorgeous, delicate and delicious. It presented visually like a masterpiece and the flavours were divine. It is honestly hard to find the words to describe the main of handmade pasta with salmon. The pasta was fresh, light and a generous portion with the salmon was the perfect, subtle accomplice. I was very impressed. Worth every cent and completely, utterly satisfying. One of my favourite restaurant experiences of all time. Absolutely recommend it.

Pretentious atmosphere and unattentive staff, but the food is good. Would never return.

Superb food, large servings and plenty of favour. Staff on all occasions were lovely - even went next door to provide me a lovely Italian wine. Every time it has been lovely
Stan Glitter
Nice enough venue but too much salt on the food, especially the salads. Wines are over priced too.

Always a favourite.... This has always been a favourite - nice (non-stuffy) atmosphere and fantastic food and service every time. One of the top restaurants in Brisbane... Orchiette is devine!

Excellent attention to detail.... I really have enjoyed my dining experiences here. I've tried it at different times in its life and whilst it has changed to suit the markets needs it hasn't ever disappointed.<br/><br/>I just really like what the owners do. They take extra care on the little details.

Disappointed. Second time we've been to The Euro. Whilst the food is good I think the prices are expensive. Both times I felt they were understaffed. Didn't get off to a very good start as we were accused of being an hour late for our booking until she realised she was looking at the wrong one. No apology was forthcoming. Wouldn't go back again and wouldn't recommend. There are plenty of other great restaurants in Brisbane.

EURO is Exceptional... One of the best restaurants in Brisbane.. Brilliant food, service, atmosphere, every single time I dine here I am very impressed... Excellent spot to take clients for lunch.

Disappointment.... Failure to wow. After much fanfare and good reviews from most of the blogger/review, I chose urbane to celebrate our 9th anniversary. I did a bit of research after the epic fail of Ortiga last time on my wife's birthday. I've been to urbane once before long before the places relaunched amd had a rather pleasant time. So I unfortunately had my hopes up. Big mistake. The booking was easy to make and the waiter courteous on the phone. Parking is a nightmare but that applies for all cbd eatery. The night got off to a bad start when we showed up on time and stood out the front with no staff paying any attention for a few minute until I awkwardly walked up to the bar and got their attention by waving. That to me is a major FAIL!! Because there were only 2 of us, we were seated near the front door and were told there were no other options bluntly. I appreciate that is a fact but a high end restaurant should be able to come up with a more polished response then "no, this is all we got, everyone else is booked". The second failing wasn't really the restaurant's fault but given I was dressed quiet casually (v neck and shorts) we were given a few judgement looks and one female went as far as pointing and mumbling.... I'm sorry, I wasn't told there is a dress code when I made the booking. All this could be forgiven if the meal was fantastic, but sadly NO.....I tried to order what others raved about on Urbanspoon but was told that this is a new menu so only a few things carried over and what I wanted is not available anymore. That's fair enough. But when I asked the waitress what she would regard as the "best/signature" dish on the new menu, her reply was "hmm wel, this is a new menu so we are still feeling our way around it hence there really isn't a signature. But you can try the spatchcock as its something from the old menu". EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!! You just made me feel what ever I order is going to be no where as good as before. And truth be told it was not inspiring at all. I have always been a substance over vanity eater but the highly priced dishes was simply PASSABLE. There was definitely not a hint of WOW in it. My wife's spatchcock was tender but boring as hell. So was my wagyu sirloin. My scollop enter was very nice but tiny and the duck terrine was probably the most interesting dish of all. So $150 dollars later, we left thinking where the hell are we going to have another wow meal in brizzy.....

Delicious. I dined here for the first time last week and it was excellent. The food was delicious and the service exceptional!! We order the crumbed veal and suckling pork pappardelle - worth every penny and we will be back soon. Thanks.

A New Favourite!. I have to share what a fantastic experience we had at dinner on Friday the 18th of May. My partner and I took his daughter to The Euro for dinner, as soon as I walked in I loved the ambiance, the dim lighting and the bustle of people enjoying themselves. When I advised of my reservation the door staff didn't need to look it up; they knew my name, the number of people and the table already. We were then treated to a great meal (the steaks were cooked perfectly). But special mention has to go to our FANTASTIC waiter Marco! He went above and beyond to ensure we had the best service and experience of The Euro (even sourcing my partners favourite port that was not on the menu and making a virgin cocktail for my partners 15 year old daughter to match mine). We will definitely be back, I think we've found our new favourite restaurant!<br/><br/>I do believe looking at some reviews some people are becoming confused at the difference between The Euro (at Urbane) and Urbane Restaurant next door. They are owned, and are part of the same group, but are different establishments with different menus, looks and target markets. I will certainly be trying Urbane next door next :)

Sad Experience. My best friend and I decided to treat ourselves to the 12-course degustation menu with wine. The food was faultless - delicious, unique, scientific - unreal!! The service was terrible. We were booked in for 8 o'clock. By the fourth dish the waiter was becoming bored explaining the wines to us. The wine was coming faster than the dishes and faster than we were drinking - to the point where several glasses of wine were on the table!! When I asked if the courses and wine could be slowed - I was told that we were the last seated and that the chef and the kitchen would need to wait back if the dishes were slowed. Far out! Fine dining???? For a $600 meal between two people - the service was appalling! A real shame that such a creative, wonderful chef was let down by front of house staff. Won't be returning.

New 2012 Menu. Not really understanding what the idea behind the new menu is. It seems that the menu and the produce quality isn't anywhere near where it was before the Brisbane floods last year.<br/><br/>All mains are now $43.<br/>Appetisers $28<br/><br/>If you are going to try charging Michelin star prices for your food, then you need the service to match, and The Euro just isn't up to it.<br/><br/>Appetisers were excellent, main however were average. <br/>We were dining after 8.30, so maybe the head chef had finished for the day.<br/><br/>Service is slow, long wait to take food order, even though it was clear that we had finished with the menus. Mains took over an hour to arrive, were only just the right temperature and then 3 tables at one.<br/> <br/>Staff wandering past guests tables, but not filling water glasses, even after purchasing water. As expected water is not kept at the table, but chilled in ice, but not within easy reach of the table.<br/><br/>Wine list has vastly improved, however Red wine by the glass prices start at $15.<br/><br/>As with a lot of Restaurants in Brisbane, The Euro has got ahead of itself, increasing prices, while not keeping up with the level of service required to charge these prices.<br/>That being said the food quality is excellent only let down by the slow service and one dimensional menu. Not as good as in previous years though.

Trendy little place tucked away in a laneway. We had a group of people and therefore had the menu with the burgers. Food was good but a bit pricey, cost about $15 for the burger plus additional for chips or salad.

Went to the euro Friday night as a party of 2. Could not fault the food and the service was even better- wait staff were fantastic and had a lot of personality. Thanks to simon for his great recommendations and for looking after us so well. Would highly recommend and would go again.

Superb!. We went to Urbane in a party of 6 and initially I was a bit worried because of some of the negative reviews. We have been to a lot of degustation and while this seems to be a popular concept these days very few get it right. The Urbane degustation was superb. We decided on the 12 course degustation and they had no problem with one of those being the vegetarian and only three of us having the matching wines. Twelve courses can take a long time but the service was seamless, the portions were perfect, not too much and not too little, and you were never left looking around for your next course. The matching wines were also really high quality and the Sommelier's personality really added to the experience. The only small suggestion I would have was that the wait staff kept changing for most of the dishes, so you missed a bit of that personal attention. But all of the staff were extremely professional. The atmosphere is very fine dining, you can hardly notice there are other customers in the restaurant, and it is quite intimate with probably only 8 tables. The food was impressive, in the way it was presented on the plate and the taste. Some of the courses would be more described as an experience - like the Tajima Beef that came with a smoking piece of cedar and and a carrot log that made you immediately think of sitting b a campfire with sizzling steaks. Also the foie custard came in a perfect egg shell made of sugar, when cracked the custard spilled over the plate - it was amazing. The other stand out items were the horseradish 'snow' that came with the smoked eel - I have never tasted anything like it, and the matching wine with the triple cream cheese - outstanding. Also I think it was great value for the calibre of food and wines. I will defiantly be going back and would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

Had two meals here this week while traveling through Brisbane. Has such a good meal the first night I had to back there the next! Outstanding meals both times, highly recommended and will be my default destination when next in brissy.

Yet to be convinced..... I have been to the Euro a few times and it does not set my world of fire! Its a nice night out, the fit out is cool, the Aesop hand soap is a nice touch, the food is good.. but for what it offers, it is overpriced. <br/><br/>The staff at the Laneway Bar need a reality check and need remember who the customer is. The wine list is pretty 'naff'...<br/><br/>I don't dislike it enough to select the 'dislike' option.<br/><br/>Perhaps if you have money to burn go to the restaurant and if you are in the mood for some 'tude' visit the Laneway.

Very Disappointing. We dined at The Euro for a family birthday, a happy event one should enjoy. But the experience was far from enjoyable. I ordered the pork belly from the 'Substantials' section of the menu only to be given a piece of pork belly approx 1 inch high, 1 inch wide and 3 inches long, 3 small pieces of gnocchi, 2 x inch long carrots, 1 teeny tiny pear and a few broad beans. Considering that the cut of meat is typically primarily fat, it was no where near worth the $32 we had to pay. When the meal came to the table, I found myself asking 'was there more to come, am I missing a side of vegies?'... no that is all you get. I was expecting a 'substantial' meal. I am by no means a big eater, but even this portion size was below my average. A small bowl of shoe string chips (when I say small, I mean smaller than a dessert bowl) costs $9. This find this completely unreasonable.

Jumbo quail was super tasty. Carpaccio of kingfish very delicate. Don't order the slow cooked lamb - definitely not slow cooked and very tough. We loved the friendly service and bordello red toilets!

Fantastic!. Duck liver parfait was amazingly awesome, beautiful texture and seasoned to perfection, carpaccio of snapper was absolutely perfect with really clean crisp flavors, wagyu tartare was beautiful (after a sprinkling of sea salt!) calamari was perfect! The deconstructed black forest had amazing flavors with intricate textures to complement it, everything was fantastic apart from the croquette of chorizo and a super overpowering manchego cheese sitting in a pool of aerated potato, it felt like he let his dish pig into the kitchen for a minute. Fantastic service and amazing food I highly recommend it but please Kim drop that croquette out of the menu!!!!!

Fabtastic!. At last Brisbane has some hope. The salmon was excellent and the rissoto to die for. The staff were some of the best I have come across. I definately have to go here again when in Brisbane next.

Simply the best. This is the best restaurant that I have ever been to.<br/>The food was incredible and the service was fantastic.<br/>It was the best dining experience that I have had in Brisbane.<br/>The sides were fantastic and the deserts were amazing.<br/>I will be going back again and again.<br/>Try the veal cutlet - my husband was blown away.

When it's good, it's great but.... Have been to The Euro a number of times. Most times, I have really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and service. The steaks are outstanding, particularly the nice touch of pairing them with roasted garlic. <br/><br/>Sometimes the service can let it down - there's nothing worse than an ironic waiter who seems to want to be anywhere but at your table. Or the waitress who tried to convince us not to eat veal because of her moral beliefs. Two times we suffered through really bad service, but another two times, it was fantastic and we had a great night.<br/><br/>If The Euro can get it's service more consistent, it will really shine.

Excellent food and outstanding service from our waiter Maxime and his colleagues. A great night. Could not fault food or service.

Enjoyed. 2 visits, both highly enjoyable. Top quality produce/smallgoods/meat turned into excellent meals. <br/>The premium ham tasting plate was a standout, as was the rabbit starter and my gnocchi starter was mop the plate delicious. Perfect for a special occasion.

Love this place. A great place for casual or formal dining and top quality food. We asked waitor to select some entrees for us, which she took her by surprise but she did a good job. I had a steak and it was probably one of the best steaks I have ever had in Brisbane, much better than Aria's overcooked steaks. Pretty price though but still good value.

Our desserts arrived and the mandarin parfait was outstanding. I rank it as one of the best desserts I’ve had this year.

The scallops were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of caramelisation and a texture that was just right. The dish combined a couple of foods that I just love, Serrano ham and scallops, but the dish was pulled together by the simply amazing sauces, the Jerusalem artichoke puree and what tasted like chimichurri. The sweetness of the scallops and the slightly salty ham worked perfectly together and while the textures contrasted nicely, there was the addition of flat croutons to provide just a little bit more. It was a perfectly balanced dish that left me wanting more and I had to settle for mopping up the last of the sauce with my finger.

The Euro is another one of the Urbane Groups' lovely venues. This one is a little less formal than Urbane but still an elegant spot for a mid-ranged price meal. European inspired food and decor are combined for a classy dining experience.

It was my birthday last week and I decided to treat myself by convincing L to book us in for dinner at The Euro. We pretty much never go out in the city for dinner and after driving around a few blocks looking for a park, we passed a few interesting looking restaurants and so I've decided we need to expand our horizons and try a few of these city options in future. The Euro is situated right next door to its more expensive sister restaurant Urbane. So we treated ourselves

The Euro was a good overall experience. Our waiter was fantastic: friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. The food was good on average. What impressed me the most was the olive oil, duck pastes and lemon tart. I would have liked brighter lighting, not just for photography reasons but because I'm getting old and my eyesight isn't perfecto. I remember dad commenting at one stage that he couldn't tell what colour the veggies are. Lighting should suit those who eat with their eyes as well as their mouths :).

It should come as no surprise that dining at The Euro is an exceptionally rewarding culinary experience. With Queensland’s Brisbane Times Chef of the Year, Alejandro Cancino (pictured above), at the helm the food is both comforting and innovative. Alejandro has taken Brisbane’s palates by storm with his twists and unexpected flavour combinations. The Euro’s new autumn menu is peppered with favourites such as grilled prawns, pan fried salmon and braised pork shoulder but the dish that arrives is nothing like you’ve tried before. Who would have thought that eucalyptus ice cream could taste so good, but under Alejandro’s deft hand it was a delight. We started with an interesting amuse bouche of scallop featuring a new product Alejandro has sourced from the Sunshine Coast. A form of seaweed, the small seeds of the sea added a salty punch and crunch to the mouthful. Even K2, a non-seafood lover, enjoyed the contrasting flavours and mouth feel.
