Review Three Blue Ducks - Brisbane

Leon Zhang
We had the brunch here with unlimited drink menu. Dishes were well presented with great view over the Brisbane river. Service is quick and professional. But most food just tastes mediocre and nothing special. The highlight is the vegetable gnocchi which is very delicious with the toasty flavour.

have already been a couple of times and loved the service and atmosphere. My most recent visit was nothing short of wonderful. The meals were so delicious! They also had a menu just for the kids called ducklings ( I see what they did there). The kids LOVED the broccoli. I’m serious, they actually want me to make broccoli like that at home now ( I guess I will need to get myself a hibachi grill). The steak was done medium-rare and it was really perfect and my bugs were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Don’t even get me started on dessert. YUM! We were treated so well by the staff there and they made sure our dietary requirements were easily met. The very talented Chef Pawel also came by to check on us. It was so great chatting with him about his food experiences and it was also great to be able to let him know how much we enjoyed our meals and the wonderful service of the staff there. We will definitely be back there again especially because the kids really enjoyed it too. Thank you all for your wonderful hospitality and looking after us so well, see you soon!

Absolutely amazing and consistent Three Blue Ducks experience at the W Brisbane. Fresh ingredients, delicious meals and great space with views. Very friendly service with a smile. Proud Mary single origin coffee that you cannot possibly go wrong with. Whether staying at the W or just looking for a great place for a Brekkie, this is my go-to for a great meal, coffee and service.

Went to Three Blue Ducks a few months ago to celebrate our anniversary. Lovely ambience and food was divine! Our waitress was brilliant - made excellent suggestions and ensured all dietary requirements were catered for.

Absolutely great experience! From the welcome, the considerate service to the delicious meals. The restaurant has a great view of the river and a very relaxing ambience. The food is worth the visit. Definitely recommended as a place to come and celebrate a special occasion. Enjoy the photos-we can still taste the flavours when looking at the pictures!

- Outstanding view - Some food food was great and some ok, prawns were perfect, scallops over cooked and rubbery, bugs a little dry - Ordered a martini and it was served with whole olives with pitts, almost broke a tooth. - Service was all over the place, took 20 minutes to get a drink, with only 8 people in the restaurant. Our server introduced themselves and then we never saw them again, 2 other people then served us. Everyone was really positive, the service pattern was just confused.

I would give zero stars if I could. Went with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. The first dish from our $90 per person package didn’t come out for 2.5 hours from when we sat down (venue wasn’t even busy either) The scrambled eggs dish cold. Cauliflower burnt, literally black! Gnocchi over cooked and all mushy. Very disappointed. Spend your money else where honestly because you can get much better quality at a lot cheaper somewhere else!

After an amazing stay at the W, I was looking forward to a breakfast at TBD that would be just as good. Outside of the amazing view and modern decor, everything else was a bit haphazard. The eggs looked great when served but they were firm/rubbery and service was a little all over the place especially when chasing table water or paying the bill. I didn’t feel as if the $ value of the food, including $6 for additional avocado, aligned to an exclusive and value for money experience

We went to the three blue ducks with an expectation of great quality responsible food and fantastic service. <br/>Unfortunately the service was far better than the food. The menu sounds great however is put together with poor practice and delivered with a slap hazard attempt at true chewing. <br/>My wife had the bugs which were cold I cleaned and essentially just cut in half and put on a plate with a side sauce. If your serving seafood in a high end restaurant please be professional enough to warm the product clean the eggs and devein the big first. If your feeling really fancy cut away and dress the shells for your guests. <br/>I had the porketta which I was very much looking forward to as I don’t cook it much for myself anymore. The chef needs to look up this dish before putting it on the menu. Please porketta is not rolled pork belly. If your going to use a name cook the dish. The sides were nice we had three. Enjoyed two. We left before dessert so not to participate in further disappointment. Pick up your game or you will not get any return business.

4.5/5<br/>3BD somehow synergises loose + luxe - in atmosphere, food & service - like a boss. For those who might not love its hotel lobby feel (I personally DGAF), then obvs the outdoor tables are for you & frankly the place to be anyway. Enjoy that view!<br/><br/>Love the sustainability & locally sourced ethos. It’s transparent, honest & makes for a surprisingly versatile menu. All the food at our table was stunning with a rustic, earthy feel. Had the swordfish been served medium rare as advised, it’d be full marks. Not gonna lie though: still the most succulent I’ve ever had so merely a technical blip in an otherwise flawless day. <br/><br/>Service truly enhanced our special occasion lunch. Staff are energised & efficient, even recognising a now treasured photo opportunity. Thank you.<br/><br/>Highly recommend.

WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!<br/><br/>I never thought I would ever write a review where I say the restaurant completly ruined my partners and my night.<br/><br/>We made a reservation so we could see the Southbank riverview (it was our anniversary)<br/><br/>Instead, when we got there, we were seated in the very back corner (literally the last table of the back of the restaurant) right near the toilets (I could literally see who was coming in and out of the toilet)<br/><br/>Our view was an overpass where we started counting how many taxis were passing through.<br/><br/>Meanwhile, we asked the server, if any tables become available, could we change tables as we were trying to be understanding that they were busy (even if we had made reservations to avoid this)<br/><br/>Moving on, we decided on our meals to be told we were given the old season menu and 2 of the 5 dishes we wanted were no longer available. Why are you still handing out old menus? You are a restaurant for god sakes, at least get that done right! You are not a cheap take away shop, have pride in what u are selling and be more attentive to detail.<br/><br/>Now at this point we are both saying to each other, let's make the most of it, we are here together and we were happy to be in each other's company to celebrate and had a laugh about the whole situation.<br/><br/>An hour and a half later with 2 glasses of wine down (approx 8:45pm by this stage) we were both starving and getting HANGRY to have only the entree come out. This is beyond ridiculous, we were already treated like rubbish patrons by the lack of attentiveness to now be waiting an hour and a half for just our entree!!<br/><br/>That's when we both said "let's go"<br/><br/>To the service manager on that evening, you have failed in your duty. We are all busy and things can slip, yes, but your main JOB is to ensure your restaurant patrons are taken care of, we didn't yell or make a fuss, we respectfully told the waiter if we could be moved when seating became available, we were not rude to anyone and tried our best to see the positive in the situation but your negligence caused what should have been a good night for us into nothing but disgust and dissapointment.<br/><br/>The final spit in the face for us, was when we said we are leaving (cancelled the order because we didn't want to wait another hour for our mains)<br/>We see not only one, but 4 EMPTY 2 seater tables with beautiful views of Southbank available, by this time it was 9pm and people were leaving so in noway would those tables be reserved.<br/><br/>Congratulations to the service manager and owner of Three Blue Ducks, may you read this and realise even though you pay high rent and commend yourselves to be a respectable high end restaurant who deliver in good food and service, you failed in every aspect that night. Please get off your high horse and pay attention to your patrons. You keep this kind of service up and you will not survive this industry. May you learn from this and hire a more attentive service manager. Safe to say will not be recommending.

Literally one of my favourite meals! This amazing spread was delightful from start to finish, from the views we were greeted to when we walked in, to the amazing staff, and then of course some of the tastiest food! The mussels were an absolute standout, my favourite from @threeblueducks <br/><br/>Pictured is: <br/>1. Steamed Mussels (chilli jam, coconut sambal, oven roasted flat bread)<br/><br/>2. Grilled Swordfish (preserved lemon, charred cos lettuce, fennel salad, pangrattata, basil oil)<br/><br/>3. Charred Broccolini (whipped smoked ricotta & green olive tapenade)<br/><br/>4. Roasted Pumpkin (goats cheese cream, burnt honey, puffed wild rice, chilli oil)

This restaurant actually disappointed me. The only advantages were its service and good view of south bank. I tried twice, last year and this year. Dishes here were not very delicious and didn’t match their prices. The tentacles of squid were over-cooked and tasted bitter. As fine dining, the proportion for the dishes were too much and cooked roughly compared with other fine dining restaurants.
I Love Food
Dined for breakfast whilst visiting friends. This restaurant is part of W hotel brisbane. We had a table next to the window so enjoyed nice views however seated right next to the door & it was freezing cold each time it opened. I ordered the spanner crab scramble & it was delicious. Special mention to our waitress Alina for her friendly service, being very accommodating to the variety of dietary requirements for our group of 3 diners & making our breakfast catch up date enjoyable. Recommend & hope to return again next time I visit Brisbane.

Good fresh food, lots of great options, lovely service, I would go back. I like the sustainability and local sourcing aspect if the restaurant. Lovely view, nice hotel.

4 stars for the foods, 1 star for the waitress who ignored me when she walked to me and I was saying "excuse me"~ after I said the second time, she stopped, I asked to pay the bill(I said "please"), well~ after 5 mins she didn't come back and continued to sevre the other customers and chatted with another staff ~then I asked the other waiter , he brought me the bill in 10 seconds.(because my seats is not far away from the counter)<br/>The other waiters are all nice and professional.I was having dinner with my 18moths baby, and the waitress seemed not polite(a long face and no smile)which made me had a bad experience at the W hotel.<br/>

As soon as we arrived we knew the service was going to be spot on - we were welcomed at the entrance by friendly staff. Bar staff obviously love their jobs & we realised everyone’s focus was on making the dining experience the best it could be. Great ambiance & venue. We were only disappointed that they’d run out of the lamb (for sharing) and fish of the day - it would have been better to have been advised when we were seated rather than later when taking our order because our first choice was lamb, my second was the fish. However, all dishes were fabulous - the sides were great (potatoes, pumpkin & carrots). We had the steaks - bit pricy & larger than we’d have chosen, in hindsight we could have shared & had a smaller dish also. We’ll definitely return & recommend if you’ve not dined there. <br/>

Came here for lunch on Saturday (early Mother’s Day). The setting was amazing, very modern and the brow of south bank was perfect.<br/>We ordered the betel leaves with crab and the oysters to start. Both were stunning and the oysters were so fresh and tasty.<br/>Next we started some sides and the steak plus the chilli glazed chicken.<br/>Both were generous portions and the chicken was moist. <br/>All dishes seasoned well.<br/>Can’t wait to return and try more dishes on the menu!

I ordered: Scrambled eggs with basil salad, cherry tomatoes, red onion, sourdough bread and avocado.Probably the worst breakfast I've had for that value - I could've made a better breakfast myself. We went as a group and got the "group menu", which was a selection of 5 dishes from the regular menu. <br/>- The food took over an hour to arrive. - The toast was hard and difficult to cut through / and chew. - The toast was also soaked in pesto olive oil which was not that appetising for breakfast toast? - There was an unproportionate ratio of bread to avocado (not enough avocado). - The poached eggs were overcooked. - One person had a handful of basil for their "basil salad", while the rest of us had 2 basil leaves as our "basil salad"

Good and honest food is their motto and it truly was. More restaurants need to commit to sourcing local, seasonal and ethically produced products like Three Blue Ducks. I am going back just for the sweet potato hummus. #threeblueducks #hummus #barramundi

Three Blue Ducks is a cool venue. I went for breakfast and after checking out the menu and not really finding anything that stood out i decided to just get the buffet option. <br/><br/>This way i could make my own food and try everything. Unlimited coffees, juice and food is the best option if you are going to try this place out.<br/><br/>Overall a solid feed but nothing special.

Delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly waiters. Exceeded all expectations. Would recommend the swooping magpie cocktail and consid splitting the desserts between 2!

Today l visited Brisbane for the first time in twenty years. My hostess, determined to make my stay a memorable one made a booking by the window for lunch. Service was, from the start, of the highest quality, discreet and without the obsequy that is unfortunately all too common in similar establishments these days. The menu was limited but interesting, and l chose the Moreton Bay Bugs as, for me as an Adelaidean, they are an infrequent delicacy. My hostess chose the Tiger Prawns.<br/>Our dishes arrived after only a few minutes. I was dismayed to see that both were accompanied by chopped kale a trendy green that until recently was fed to cattle and imho should remain thus, the coarseness of the stalk being much inferior to that of spinach or silver beet. To the detriment of my bugs they were awash with a good deal of unwarranted vegetable oil which was not evident with the prawns.<br/>With both dishes there was a pervasive charred taste which spoiled the delicate flavours of the flesh.<br/>We finished the meal by sharing an interesting cheese platter<br/>On reflection, the wood oven is most suitable for a pizza restaurant, not the subtleties of seafood, and kale should remain in the cow shed.<br/>The menu could do with a less trendy and more classical treatment

Overhyped, food promises more than is delivered on the plate. Food quality does not correspond to prices, well meaning though unpolished service ... more cafe than resto

Couldn't fault a dish. Great sharing menu, loved the raw fish with pawpaw, burrata salad. I was sceptical when it opened given I've had mixed experiences at their restaurants in Sydney but on this particular occasion it was impossible to find fault in anything. The sea salt meringue is an interesting dessert which I loved and was confused about at the same time, in a good way. Worth a try for an adventurous eater.

Staying at the W Hotel for our wedding anniversary we were excited to be dining at Three Blue Ducks last night. Unfortunately our excitement dissipated throughout the dining experience. The dining setting was excellent, with a well positioned table with a great view of the Brisbane River and Southbank. We were welcomed by our waiter and the night was off to a good start. We had oysters for entree, which were excellent, particularly liked the finger lime dressing. The mains were a different story though. The char grilled prawns were overcooked, very dry and there were only 3 of them, not a very generous main serving in our opinion. The t-bone steak was of average to poor quality and presented gristle throughout and looked well under 500 grams. The waiter had become inattentive and delivered my glass of red wine, ordered at the start of the sitting to be taken with the steak, as we were finishing our mains. Even more frustrating, was that our waiter was 2 tables away chatting with a couple that had finished their meal and were preparing to depart whilst I waited and eventually abandoned the notion of wine with dinner. The whole experience was underwhelming, so much so, that we made the decision not to return for breakfast as we originally planned. Three Blue Ducks was a low light in an otherwise amazing experience as guests at the W Hotel. Unlikely to return for a meal.

This was my fourth time dining at the restaurant since it opened in June. I really like the ambiance there!<br/>I always have the raw fish and the bread to start with. The haloumi was satisfying.<br/>For the mains, as usual, we order to share (the food potion was pretty big).<br/>The steak was tender and juicy. The bugs was flavoursome, and has always been our favourite. However, this time I found that Chargrilled King Prawns was the biggest suprise! The smokey chargrilled flavour smelled and tasted fantastic with a splash of chilli.<br/>For the dessert, I strongly recommend the creme brûlée (we ordered 2 serves). The custard beneath the crisp top was exquisitely rich and creamy while firm. <br/>For the cocktails, I had the Ducks Rosé Spritz, too fruity for me.<br/>

We had dinner with friends for my husband’s birthday and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The thing that really made the evening was the staff - our waiter was great very professional but friendly and made appropriate witty remarks which was actually genuinely entertaining. The restaurant was at capacity but everything flowed smoothly. We were seated at a side table which was great because even though over all it was quite noisy we could all hear each other without shouting. <br/><br/>Most the food was good although I’m hard pressed to remember the stand out features. The plates were large portions to share although it wasn’t really set up for sharing which was a bit awkward to kind of carve up the things so everyone could get a bite. I sensed a lot of butter - which was delicious but very rich. My favourite meat was the steak - which is a weird choice for me but it was just bursting with flavour (eg butter). Of the other things I liked the accompanying vege bits best - there was some kind of magical kale (probably with butter) with the Moreton bay bugs. It was insanely delicious I think I ate all of it no one else got a look in. And ditto something on the pork - so tasty don’t remember what it was. Everyone else liked the cheesy tomato starter but I’m not a fan of big chunks of tomato so it wasn’t my fav. The potatoes were a bit average and there was a cauliflower side which was served cold.... it was a bit weird and I noticed no one ate it. <br/><br/>I’d like to go back again and probably enjoy the food a bit more (not in a group which can be distracting). Overall I think the restaurant seems very sophisticated and polished but not stuffy. It was a lovely place for a special occasion. <br/><br/>We also stayed at the W hotel which was fun.

Dined here for dinner last night with friends who were staying at the W Hotel. The setting is casual but nice with a great view of South Bank. I wasn't super hungry so skipped entrees and had the Steamed Mussels. The wait on food was verging on long but when it did arrive, the 5 at my table who ordered the 500g rib fillet on the bone were very excited. The steaks filled the whole plates and looked delicious! They then brought out my mussels but my friend with the moreton bay bugs was told "2 more minutes". No one was keeping count but maybe it was another 5 minutes. The server arrived with the meal and without a hint of a complaint from my friend, he said that he would be waiving the cost because the wait was unacceptable. The wait didn't feel excessive enough to warrant waiving the cost but the gesture was very much appreciated and all at the table were impressed. Service was good - we were checked in on for drinks and our water glasses topped up frequently. My meal was nice enough but I think I prefer a broth-like sauce with my mussels rather than a creamy sauce. Just a personal preference though. The accompanying flatbread was a nice addition. While I didn't have dessert, those I observed around the table were huge!! A 3.5 overall.

I have been here now a few times for lunch and once for buffet breakfast. It has been good every time.<br/>The beef was incredible, and the chicken too. The variation of food in the menu is quite good. I have not tried the desert yet. The restaurant has a really nice view of the brisbane river. Ther parking is super expensive and they don't give any discount for dining inn.

For those who keep up with social media, especially the foodie side of things, there is little doubt that you would have heard of the newest Three Blue Ducks, which recently opened its doors in the beautiful W Brisbane. Having a girls night out, we decided to finally go and check it out. Far away from their other store at The Farm on Byron, this restaurant exuded elegance, but still with a homey rustic charm.

Beautiful ambience and service! However, the food was incredibly average for the prices being charged with multiple dishes came out late. On a positive note, the cocktails were incredible and saved a bad meal

This is not a positive review. The Brisbane arm of Three Blue Ducks fails to live up to the hype associated with its Bronte and Byron siblings. It failings are almost universal across the criteria common to restaurant reviews. The food at Three Blue Ducks is, unfortunately, yet another example of the mediocrity that many Brisbane restaurants of a similar ilk appear to be settling for. The drying meats and fish displayed in a cabinet on entry lead one to believe that this restaurant, like its southern forebearer, prides itself on high quality food. Not in the white-table-cloth-and-classical-music tradition, but in the good-food-done-well tradition. It's neither. We shared all our dishes: the haloumi (an uninspired variation on an outdated concept overpowered by a garden of parsley) and tandoori quail (a very underwhelming marinade considering the depth and complexity characteristic of tandoor) to start, the 500g bone in ribeye with burnt onion and chimichurri (a reasonably well-executed dish, but not for the $60 price tag) and carrots (advertised as include honeycomb, but noticeably absent from our serve) for main, and chocolate parfait (perhaps the least inspiring item we ordered) and crème brûlée (boasting the inclusion of vanilla … as much a staple ingredient of crème brûlée as eggs and sugar). The decor is confused. Laminated table tops; part faux wood part concrete flooring; downlights on rails alongside modern pendant lights; mismatched seating with a Scandinavian feel ... what is going on here? Service is poor, lifeless, and, sometimes, condescending. To draw on the recent experience shared by my wife and me, our server carried an air of arrogance complemented by yet another attempt at hipster wait staff attire (an outdated look). When our dessert order was incorrectly placed, our server offered an insincere apology. There are other small, but equally noticeable aspects that contribute to the overall listlessness of Three Blue Ducks. If the rather large vacant space towards the back of the restaurant isn’t off putting, the battery-powered tea light candles in the bathrooms are. How could a couple be justified in paying over $100 per head (including 1 glass of bubbles and red each) for such oversights? Interestingly, in this weekend’s WISH, the magazine published as part of the Weekend Australian, Jeff Bennett, one of the co-owners of Three Blue Ducks, described how he had an uneasy feeling about opening an arm of the restaurant in Brisbane. Perhaps these reservations were well-founded.

Well W! It’s a little early to judge so you be the judge. Fish - gold band snapper fresh but over cooked. Oysters and prawns naturale perfect. Lamb meatballs perfect. Not sure if the Byron experience has fully transitioned yet...Staff nervous and feeling their way in the curvaceous surrounds. They lack confidence. A great view for Brisbane. Twice in two days and it’s consistent but just a three. Very very clean and new. Not grimy.

I am so excited to be writing about this restaurant today! Jacky had been mentioning about this restaurant for quite some time now. They have multiple stores around Australia with the first store opening in Bronte, then followed by Byron Bay and Rosebery. This restaurant is owned by a bunch of friends who enjoy cooking good food while maintaining the sustainability of the business. When we heard that they were going to open another restaurant in W Hotel Brisbane, we knew that we had to visit! We tried booking beforehand but unfortunately they have a capped bookings everyday. Luckily we arrived early and there were still spaces for us!

Simply wonderful. Wandered in off the street for lunch, as visitors to Brisbane. They were so attentive from the beginning, but with a few big lunch tables our food was a little slow. We were happy enough but wait staff was amazing. Have not experienced that level of attentiveness/ hospitality for some time. We were offered another wine and coffee and a bonus dessert. We are well travelled but this was ridiculous hospitality !!! Staff and Maitre d extraordinary imo. <br/>
