Review Pig 'n' Whistle Queen Street - Brisbane

Nathan McCartney
Breakfast was cold, poached eggs were like boiled eggs, sausages and bacon really bad quality. The beans had been under a warmer for what seems hours. Overall a very bad experience for $85.
Angie Gibson
Just missed breakfast menu so snacked on Arancini Balls with Truffle mayonnaise and basil. Came out lovely hot and crispy.
Just Nicole
Service was great, food came out quickly & tasted good. A little warm as there is no fans outside, other than that it was a great evening.

Customer service sucks! The old man at the bar is rude and uneducated! The coffee is also bad, ordered flat white but more than 2/3 is foam! Pepper and salt are all empty.... rubbish! rubbish!rubbish !
Greg Morson
Nice pub in the middle of the Queen Street mall. I had the calamari which was a little over cooked. But still good.
Michael Murphy
Portions so small you couldn't feed a mouse. Chips so stale a seagull wouldn't eat them. $29 too 😂😂😂
Calvin
Food was bland and wait time was 30mins for food. Was not worth the wait and expensive for the quality of food
Boy Subaru
I ordered benny bacon crossant the 2 poached egg were over cooked. And too small of amount on the bacon
Tina Carmichael
When I asked if I could omit the food that came with the calamari due to food allergy n requested chips in exchange I had to pay $17 for calamari and $9 for chips when a simple exchange of food be done no extra charge. Having worked in hospitality myself accomodating food allergy suffers seems to have gone out the window n you get charged extra! Won’t recommend this sorry to say. This meal should have been $17. So ripped off! 😡

My wife and I experienced fantastic service, excellent food, a nice wine and an ice cold pint of beer. The wait staff were friendly and professional and we're spot on with timing on both food and drinks service. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.

So my flight to bali gets canceled, its early morning, i just flew in from NZ. Set down in the first place i found. A luminescent french waitress simply shining with positivity, takes my order, i ask for pint, she says its too early, i ask for milk shake, another girl brings my pint and my milk shake comes))) anyway she made my day with her vibe. If she is reading this, add me to friends and if you are ever in Bali, a tour is on me))

I couldn’t believe what I saw while I was sitting at The Pig & Whistle in Queen Street Mall. Almost everyone who sat down had to approach a waitress for a menu. One woman and her friend stormed out after having to request a menu from staff and complained of a staff member being rude to them (luckily staff were able to laugh it off). Our food came out promptly but my tea took so long we had almost finished our food when it arrived. A couple of staff members seemed to be doing all the work while the rest stood and chatted whist they drank their coffees. Terrible service!

This is a bustling place with an attentive staff and a great choice of musicians playing nightly. The Food is great and I highly recommend stopping by.

the meal i had tonight was amazing the ribs were so delicious with flavor and the sauce complimented the meat so well! they even allowed me to swap the slaw with a green-salad too!
Elizabeth Parsons
We order the fish. We were shocked that our $21.00 meal only came with bite size pieces of fish and a small sauce. No chips. Didnt enjoy it .

My partner and I had a nice english meal yesterday and a cold pint of ale. Service was good and staff were very friendly, and I walked out with a pommy accent. Very happy.

First time being there to have a meal, liked the meal, would recommend

Wonderful food and terrific atmosphere. Would recommend to come for a meal.

Our waitress was the most friendly, helpful girl xxx I wanted Moreton Bay bugs one last time before we returned to Scotland and she made sure our meal was spot on. Big thanks. Had been in here on Saturday as well, another fun visit
Janice Gribben
The waitress was very friendly the service excellent the food was really good - the pork belly was awesome & my hubby really enjoyed the curry . Couldn't fault the meals or the service well done

Been to this place many, many times on our visits to Brisbane and love it. The food is great, the service has been great every time and when we have to wait a little because it is flat chat busy......so what......!!! To all those people leaving negative comments about some stupid stuff, get a damn life and stop being so selfish thinking about yourself. I loved it today to see that you guys changed to paper straws. Thumbs up, supporting our environment with just little things like that. Keep up the great work and to all the haters out there......grow up and get a life.

Went there on the fifth of Jan for a steak at around 7pm. Possibly the worst steak I’ve had in my life. I had to spit it out and told the waiter there was something wrong with the meat. She said oh I’ll go tell the chef. I waited and waited. She did no such thing. I paid ($60+ for a streak and Pepsi max) and left. I don’t mind paying good $ for a good steak but close to rotting meat is truly disgusting.

Let me say first, I was not expecting much. Theres a cordoned off section of the footpath, with some disparate branding, and generic pop blaring from the speakers.

Even then, when I saw the prices, I figured we would be talking about a decent eat. I mean, you are in Queensland! Perhaps fine dining takes place outdoors here, since the power bill to bring the room down to a reasonable temperature would be prohibitively high?

So I order the $45 rib eye, which comes with chips and salad, and some forgettable mass produced beer from the tap. Staff were friendly but not intrusive, and the meal came in a reasonable time frame (of course, it was close to 5pm on a weekday - too early for most diners).

The meal was underwhelming to say the least. The steak, at 200g, was as expected, but the price tag might need to be adjusted. Cooked competently, but did not contain any real flavour, and was a tad overdone.

Chips were your usual steak fare - large and cooked adequately, but again, nothing you couldn't buy at a fish and chip shop.

The salad, though - good lord, the salad - Woolies iceberg lettuce with halved cherry tomatoes and bottled ranch dressing.

If I paid $20 or so in a pub, I'd be satisfied, but I think your money is better spent in the confines of Queen St mall.
Bruce DAN
True English Pub experience where they serve warm beer in warm glasses. Not good in the Brisvegus 35deg summer. English Pub experience continues with London prices on food menu. A good range on menu but most of it is not available especially in evenings, so the choice is mostly nachos, chips or wedges.
Foodme
Didnt have a main but a few entrees to share and wasnt left hungry. Two entrees was a good feed. The prawn and snapper spring rolls were nice. The chicken wings (were all drumsticks) but ok, little dry and the sauce was bland but a hefty serving considering it was an entree.
KITCHFIT
An easy going bar in the middle of the mall. A safe bet for a relaxed beer with mates.

Came here for a quick drink and some nibbles and found it fun to hang out.

We did order some wedges and garlic bread, which were both pretty good. The garlic bread especially was really cheesy and really yummy!!

Thanks for the Sunday bevies!
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
This place is located in the busy hustle and bustle of queen st mall in (Brisvegas) c.b.d

They have some cool beers on tap. They have two eating areas one like a restaurant the other more like a bar!!!!

The service was quick how ever I found the food a little over priced for to quality of food and portion size!!!!

We had a Schooner of Mooloolaba pawns. They where tasteless and not worth the money! They could of given a bowl of water to rinse the hands because there not peeled!!!!

I had fish of the day! Which was barramundi that tasted amazing! however the serving was pretty small! For the price $34

My friend had a medium rare steak with pepper sauce he said it tasted nice but had a bit bit of fat and Gristle in the middle of it! I had a pint of Beer and he had a glass of coke. It was like $100 you can eat it better places and pay that much for better food

Extremely long wait. Tried to serve us fish and chips which had been waiting under the lamp for 15 mins... walked out and they charged us for 2 soft drinks...
Oscar Julie
Thought we’d have a traditional pub lunch & the ploughman was advertised as having ‘crusty bread’ which the photo advert on the table also showed (a baguette). Extremely disappointed when a piece of toasted sourdough came out instead & a couple of lettuce leaves as garnish only. If you like a traditional ploughmans, steer clear of this one. A lump of cheese with a piece of toast? Not a ploughmans! Service was friendly, the place was quite full at Sunday lunchtime.

The food was ok, actually, less than expected, this place is so famous, so I thought the food would be really tasty, but no, was just normal. The good poin is the beer, was really good and on the menu has a lot of options. Another good point is this place is the only where the kitchen is open over 11pm.
Rachel Larrigan
Food was nice, service was fast and staff were very friendly as well. Just wish the meals were smaller those who dont have a big appetites and feel bad leaving half a meal on plate.
Natasha Kelly
Had some late night drinks and snacks with a group of friends, great atmosphere and good service, not a bad late night food menu either.thanks
Lorretta
Busy Brisbane Mall, staff friendly enough and informed us of the wait as there where busy.
Coffee and Eggs Benedict was ok, you get what you pay for. Service quicker that expected.
James
Complete sh!t. Don't get the steak pie. It was a disgusting stew ladled into a ramekin with a crust on top that was obviously cooked separately. The term pie was misleading. The rest of my table had equally unappetising meals. Would not recommend, would not return. PS: do not drink their beer!
WAYz
Had the pork belly as a main which was very filling with a big portion of pork. It did lack flavour but was also satisfying. Service was friendly and food didn't take too long to be served.

I have never actually dined at any of the Pig 'N' Whistles before. I attempted to dine once at the Indooroopilly location, but after 20 minutes of no service or even acknowledgment, we went else where. The fact that we were greeted by someone when we walked in is already 100% better than the previous miss-attempt. In a mirror opposite, the staff were hovering too much once we sat down to get our order. We ordered some drinks and continued looking at the menu. While I was deciding, I was looking around at other peoples options. The meals looked nice, and there seemed to be plenty of staff to assist everyone that was there. We decided on our meals and ordered.

I ordered a "Middlesbrough 'Parmo' Schnitzel and my partner ordered the Pig 'N' Whistle Burger. The rest of my family ordered Steak & Guinness Pies and schnitzels. I enjoyed the schnitzel. It is different to the usual "parmy' in there was no tomato, just a nice cheesy bechamel sauce with melted cheese over the top. It worked really well. I think that of all the meals, the ones that ordered the schnitzel had the better of the choices. However, my partners burger looked small for the price, and did not look that inspiring. The pies looked nice, but I was told they were a bit bland in flavour. I did not try it, so I can not really make much comment. Considering it was lunch, the prices are quite on the high side for a "pub lunch".

Overall, my meal was nice, but I do not think it was worth what was paid. It was not my choice to go there, and it was not completely bad like some other reviews I have read. But it is no better than any other pub fare you can find.
Aedhon
Good ambience, friendly staff and decent food. Downside is that we waited for ages till our meal were served. I had the pork belly main, was really good but the portion was a little bit small considering the expensive price. Not sure if I would revisit again.
Mathew Hnoudis
Nothing special. Waited for ages to get our meals. My burger was nice, but really was a slider size, not burger size. The chips on the plate were sparse, cold and lacking salt. Such a disappointment considering that this place was recommended by a colleague. Not worth the money...

I had surf 'n' turf! I can't say that was the best steak ever but that was a good one! Waiter was so so friendly and helpful. In overall That was a good experience and I'll be back.

I really enjoy the helpful service and solid meals at Pig 'N' Whistle. I always go to Pig 'N' Whistle after a long day and I just want a good piece of steak and some chips in a convenient location on my way home. I have also enjoyed having breakfast at Pig 'N' Whistle as they always have gluten free alternatives.
Wynni Jones
I really like this pig and whistle because the food is always solid. You know when you go there that you'll be able to get the classics for a reasonable price. The staff are so helpful and always accommodate changes in the menu. For example, even though it wasn't on the menu, from the sides the waitstaff were able to make gluten free avocado on toast for my sister. Another time, the waiters helped by suggesting some sides to bulk out a single steak meal to be big enough for two to share. Can't fault the reliable quality and good location

It is nothing short of a miracle that this place is still open. Writing this review has brought back some horrific memories of the awful nausea I felt after eating their so called "poached eggs" which were more like hard boiled eggs! The service was ok, but even the best service couldn't erase the gross after taste of that meal!
Troy Mortleman
Not bad if you want a drink in the middle of a shopping trip. The decor hasn't changed in years which I guess is part of its charm. Also a good spot to watch the English Premier League football if you are in the city late.
Sarah Bromfield
Bad. So bad. How do you ruin a chicken schnitzel? I thought of all the basic pub items on the menu, this might be ok. Nope. Just terrible - and terrible attitude about it also. When I complained they asked if I would like them to bring me some chicken nuggets. No I don't want any nuggets, I'm not 3 years old.
Poached Egg
Terrible service. I have been here twice and both times I have waited around 30 minutes to be acknowledged and then another 45-60 minutes to actually be served. I've only been here for the breakfast so can't speak for the lunch/dinner menu but the breakfast is boring and bland. For the long wait I atleast expected a slightly impressive meal. It's great that Pig n Whistle have so much staff on the floor but they should work harder at being efficient.
K Bel
It had been a couple of years since I had eaten here (we don't get into the city as much as we used to) And we were not disappointed. Atmosphere great, service great, food stunning - thanks Pig 'N' Whistle we had a wonderful night

Worst lunch EVER!!!!!. I didn't think it was possible to go wrong with a burger.........this was the worst food ever. The bun was stale, there was no cheese as described on the menu, the meat patty was burnt dry and tasteless, to the point i think a dog wouldn't even eat it. The lettuce was brown. The alleged "chunky cut" chips were overcooked and dripping with grease. The wait staff were rude and we were treated like an inconvenience that was interrupting their day rather than paying customers. After waiting for the waitress to ask how the meals were, having only taken 3 bites of the burger, I gave up and offered my opinion and advised the burger was disgusting. I got an eye roll and a sigh. I was advised I could complain next time and she would take care of it..................................................heads up Pig and Whistle, there wont be a next time!!!!

-----01 Apr, 2015-----

Lunch was a disgrace. Overpriced garbage wait staff rude. I had a burger that I took 3 bites from and left it was disgusting. When I advised staff I was treated like an inconvenience. I will never be back

Late traveller. Waited 25 minutes no breakfast asked a waiter she said 5 more minutes 15 minutes later meals arrived poor service in my mind.

Not so great breakfast. Probably one of the worst breakfast I had tried in Oz. Toast was cold and greasy. Scrambled egg was precooked, soggy and looked like microwave heated...also tasteless. Price wasn't cheap either to justify the preparation.

Horrible service. I came here with my friend for brunch and truly regret it. There were about 5 waiters/waitresses just standing there waiting to grab food to bring to tables and none of them chose to acknowledge us. It took a girl 15 minutes to take our order and our food (which was really bland and mediocre - my 'sourdough' bread was just a piece of white toast) took 45 minutes to arrive. Overpriced and definitely not worth the visit.

Hit and miss, good beers, always good bands. Nice range of beers, service can be a bit hit and miss at times. Food is not bad, but a bit one the pricey side. Best bit for me is the bands they have playing near the gardens in the Mall and people watching

Never even got to order! This franchise's service was very bad. The staff didn't greet us, milled around cashier area, tried not to notice us when nearby and when they were hailed whilst serving someone else they said "they would be right with us" and never came back. As we got up to leave they didn't even see us leave. Basic service was so shocking we probably won't be back for a drink or feed unless the rest of the city shuts down!

Re-heated food.. We used to love the Pig N Whistle. The food was great and reasonably priced and the service was out of sight. I am not sure what has changed but things have progressively gone down hill in the past 4 years. My meal on the weekend was simply appalling. I have the pork belly. It was dry and cold on the outside and progressively colder towards the middle. The fat had not rendered at all and was a thick gelatinous goop sitting on cold pork. Seriously guys, if I can cook this better at home than you can in your restaurant perhaps you should pull up stumps. I can offer you cooking classes if you like, but I have a charge out rate of 100/hr. Oh yeah, and I also watched how frequently you use your microwave and it was pretty disconcerting.

Overall I would suggest to future patrons that they give this joint a miss and head to one of the many other quality establishments in and around the location. Alternatively throw a lean cuisine in the micro and you will have a better feed.

Went for brunch with family. Service quite good, but food overpriced. I understand it's premium real estate and rents here - but spending a total of $85 for 3 meals that were actually fairly miserly...
Prue.delaware
Great service but terrible food. Went in for a quick bite and was served a delicious (but small) piece of barramundi but with overdone fries that were soaked in oil and a measly salad... Left still hungry. For a $35 meal it was a complete rip off! Would have had better luck in a food court. Service was lovely though. But not enough for me to ever go back.

Review your staff.. Decided to come here for lunch and was not impressed. The girl was very rude and did not acknowledge us once we had told her what we wanted, a simple 'yes' is not difficult. Then our coasters were basically thrown at us, and she uses very informal speaking eg "whadda ya want?" i cannot understand how she has a job here. This was a shame as the gentleman that brought us our drinks had wonderful manners, very pleasant, not a street kid like the girl. The food was average, my beef burger was a joke, frozen patty? Come on guys..
Laura
I have tried this on a few Saturday mornings for eggs on toast. Service has been very friendly and quick on each occasion. If you're after something simple for breakfast, it is in a handy location in the mall.
Kate Armstrong
Didn't like. The staff was absolutely terrible. I would not
Go back

Great.. Love to sit here on a saturday lunch and watch all the people walk by. Good food no complaints. Staff are very on the ball and at your service. Good location to listen to the queen street mall music perfomers.
Duncan
Hmmm, ordered Chilli Bugs, out came chutney coated.. Yay. Ordered the summer platter with teriyaki chicken & pâté among other things, when we asked where the pâté was we were told they are out and there is a slice of salami instead, how nice. Teriyaki chicken was boiled, no teriyaki sauce or flavor how exciting. Would not recommend... Still waiting for drinks order... Cancelled.

Great for a steak. Had lunch in here today and was so impressed that I thought it deserved a comment. Although it was a wet and miserable day I was surprised at how friendly and pleasant the staff were regardless of being continuously rained on. My friends and I were sat and given menus promptly had a drink order taken straight away, which as we were thirsty was great. All three of us already knew that we wanted steak for lunch although as there was a few to choose from decided to ask which one was the best. The blonde Irish waitress Fiona was fantastic. After briefly describing each steak she sold me on the prime flank steak and I couldn't of been more delighted with this choice. Once it came out I was blown away by the presentation and that's before I took a bite. It was cooked to perfection. One of the best meals I've had in a long time and definitely the best steak.

Best people watching position!. This is a great place after a hard day of Saturday shopping! We love their wine list of sav. Blanc and the food is pretty good. Bucket of prawns is presented very well, fresh, tasty, and cold....love it.
We get great service from a young lady with long brown hair who is always onto it! And is quick.
We have eaten here maybe 8 times and always get a great lunch. We love watching the people go and entainers.
I like the beef skewers, prawns, salad, sausage sand mash, and the wine...great place to relax on the weekend.
DianaW
May be a good place for having a beer & watching the footy with your mates, but that's about it. Have had brekky here & tried the coffee, both were not good. Supposed to be English/Irish, but I did not get that cosy English type of pub feel at all. Well maybe cos it's sitting slap bang in the middle of the mall? Great for people watching of course, I think that's how they get most of their business!.
Tones
Full English?. Bloody awful actually. Everything looked and tasted like it came from Woolworths freezers. $19.50 for that?, never again. Oh, and $4.00 for a watery OJ.

Pig 'n' Whistle , located in the heart of Queen Street Mall, infront of Queens Plaza.. If you walk past a restaurant in the middle of Queen Street Mall that has live music, then this m ust be the one... I used to ge t confused with these restaurants that has a "pig" as their mascot , but no other restaurants serve wh at Pig 'n' Whistle serves.. Wan t to know why? Because i t's probably the only "Traditional British Pub" that you can find around here in Brisbane..
