Review La Lupa - Brisbane

Tony Phonethipsvad
Just like all the other reviews, the pizza was bang on delicious! Steak was cooked well but was lacking flavour and quite a few parts were too fat to be edible. Would definitely come back again just for the pizza and to try out other dishes.

Service was brilliant. Presentation was good. Atmosphere was cosy. Food was disappointing for the price point. Table specifically requested at time of booking was taken by other guests upon arrival.

Can only comment on pizza. Not a lot jumped out on the menu as being unique or interesting flavour combo. I was happy just to go with whatever other people wanted. The menu was very very heavy on the processed and cured meats which I don’t like. The “share style” focaccia pizza things were a bit different, and the one we had with pistachio, ham and mascarpone was very good. Mostly for the pistachio element. The pizzas looked good but too much processed meats. I liked the texture of the base but the flavour in the dough was underwhelming. I didn’t really get anything. The crust was firm and chewy, but not moist or spongy. Non of the flavours in the pizzas were wow either. There was a nice red base on one of them, but that all I can say. Wouldn’t go back for pizza. Ambience… ok. But cold seated outside. Service was good. Prices.. ok ish.

We had a table of 6 and found the service to be honestly quite awful from the get go. Initially we put it down to perhaps them being busy, but at least 4 of the servers were free but did not come to take our orders- we waited 5-10mins and having signalled with eye contact, then after having made eye contact several times and having no success i raised my arm in confusion as it was starting to feel like we were purposefully ignored, then just leaving my arm up for a long time- they made eye contact back but did not attempt to come let us know that they will take orders soon or anything. We were pretty confused. The guy who stands at the door + 2 waiters continued to chat near the front of the restaurant. I’m assuming it’s because they have waiters assigned to each table, and our guy was for some reason the only one bustling around on a few of the outside tables- he quite literally walked by our table maybe 10 times with other tasks to do with the other tables while my arm was raised, while the other servers did nothing. They appear to have a very inefficient service system in store at this restaurant. The pizzas were nice enough (but I prefer Elementi and beccofinos)- the mushroom/sausage one was quite good. The others aren’t much to write home about. Heirloom carrots as a side was deliciously- highlight of my meal. Potatoes as a side were a huge disappointment (not crunchy, but over cooked in a tough skin way). We ordered $120 aka 1kg of the t bone steak- don’t bother. Very chewy, also laden with a lot of fat- it’s a cheap cut. We couldn’t eat most of it as the fat on the steak took up a good 25% it was THAT thick. The reason why I rated this place so poorly was because of the poor service we received from our server- perhaps he was busy or had a bad day but he was quite snarky (very unnecessary). Later on there was a cockroach that crawled under our table and we had alerted them, they did nothing for a good 15 mins and I saw the staff go into the kitchen to all have a massive laugh together- quite unprofessional as we can see them through the glass windows. We’re a table of 6 girls so everyone was quite disturbed having to eat with it under us since it’s a flying cockroach and it was literally leaping around ffs- they only ended up actually doing something about it after my friend decided to move her chair away to the other side of the table as she was too uncomfortable. Our rude waiter came, heavied a very dramatic sigh and just whacked a tablecloth at it (which did nothing btw except for letting it fly off- of course chaos ensued thereafter). He didn’t say a word and just left. The cockroach flew onto the glass window then crawled to another group of lady’s table which is where I last saw it. Like honestly that’s pretty gross and poor handling from their staff. TLDR the most bizarre dining experience I’ve ever had, if you’re having a crabby day maybe don’t take it out on unsuspecting patrons? We left that dinner feeling very confused and uncomfortable- I’ve worked in hospitality myself for a number of years and could not imagine intentionally ignoring customers (or anyone really- like just be a decent person?), being rude to them with no provocation and being generally unpleasant for no reason. For that reason I don’t see myself coming back to this joint, especially when there are aplenty of wonderful Italian restaurants in the area (Julius, Elementi, Beccofino, Bianca, Voglia, you name it)

Possibly the best pizza I've had in my life! The texture of the pizza base was so incredibly soft and delicious. The ambience outside was really nice too. I can't wait to go back!

Really dope Valentine's Day dinner. Lovely staff. Great atmosphere

Hmmmmmm. Interesting. The menu is a hit and miss really. You might want to think of eating at another Italian place if you are a vegetarian like me. I went with friends who do eat meat and they liked their food. Anyway, the mushroom pizza was not good. I gotta give it to them for the pizza bases, they taste really fresh.

Lovely place and friendly staff Food was flavourful however they can be quite on the salty side, especially the pizzas. Gnocchi was nice although a bit doughy. Highly recommend the desserts - tiramisu & pancotta. Absolutely divine Update: Highly recommend the lupacchiotto Tasmania Pizza! • Pappardelle al ragu - nice seasoning although still quite salty and pasta very aldente • golden gaytime panna cotta - wasn't a fan, very heavy and the caramel was too dense

Phenomenal pizza. I must say this is the best pizza I’ve ever eaten, and that includes all the pizzas I’ve tried all over Italy. My wife is italian and we are fussy about italian food, but this place is exceptional to say the least, and the Italian wine selection is incredible. My new favorite restaurant!!

Such a great night. We started with a meat and cheese platter which seemed like it was straight from italy 🇮🇹 the pizza 🍕 was next level and the cannoli was unbelievable. Top that with amazing service Lupa Pizza Bar is going to be a regular on my list of places to dine!

Went to lunch here today with family and met Andrea & Valentina and along with their friendly staff, they ensured we had a fabulous time. The service & timing was first class but the food was excellent, including desert. They have a great selection of wines & a couple of nice Italian beers on taps. We certainly will be returning here again and recommend them to anyone.

My partner and I found this little gem on Sunday 8 October for lunch. The staff were terrific. The pizza was absolutely mouthwatering. My partner is not terribly fond of pizza, but told me there is defintely going to be a return visit. We will bring friends and family here.

Delicious food and great wine list, caprese salad was the best I've had in Brisbane. Staff went above and beyond. Will definitely be back!

Don’t be fooled by the name ‘Pizza Bar’ as that is almost an insult for an Italian place as good as Lupa. Never gave this little restaurant a second thought ... until tonight. What a gem! They have a little menu, but just go with whatever is on the specials board or what is personally recommended by your brilliant Cameriere. The same goes for the wines. Oh boy, do they know their wines. Yes, they serve pizza. Glorious, thin-crusted, mouthwatering pizza. But they also have Burrata, pasta, panacotta, ... And it is all SO GOOD! Just sit back and let Andrea’s little Italy wash over you. Bellissimo!

Hands down the best pizza in Brisbane! Super light dough, fresh toppings and extraordinary service. Grazie Andrea :)

Fantastic meal, amazing service and wonderful atmosphere. High quality ingredients served creativity and respectfully. Thank you so much for the evening, my Mum couldn’t stop saying how much she enjoyed her birthday dinner.

The food was just okay. It's just that we were told the pizzas would take 25 minutes, but it ended up taking almost an hour. We would've been happy to wait if the staff had said sorry (just once) or if we'd been given some complimentary bread to tide us over. When we said it had been 45 minutes, the waiter argued that it had only been 28. Tables around us had the same problem with the same answer and attitude from wait staff. There are better places with friendlier service.

It was first time I visited. We ordered Piccante pizza, Vitello tonnado and fig salad. I was not really hungry but.... pizza was just beautiful and also Vitello was fantastic colaboration with the sauce. The fig salad was nice and fresh.
The service was also great.
I look forward to trying another from the menu next time. This will be absolutely my secret gourmet house! Fashion and style is alive in there. Thank you guys!

The service, the food, the cost, the wait time were appalling. We waited over an hour for our pizza when we decided enough was enough. The pizza was was still not ready. The staff were very rude when we left and they tried to make pay for the pizza we hadn’t got. They also lied about our pizza being almost ready and half an hour later we still hadn’t got it. Will never ever go back.

This was what cost 29$ as an entree, disgrace. I couldn’t take a picture of the rest of our meals, because after 1 hour, our pizza still hadn’t come. Even after the waiters told us it was being made multiple times. The staff where extremely rude and had expected us to pay for the meals we did not even receive. I wouldn’t definitely not recommend this place, no go back; having not even eaten anything but an entree. As the entree is hard to stuff up, they even stuffed this up, as it was far too small a portion size, and was a terrible excuse for an antipasto board, even the cured meats where extremely low quality and dry, as if they where left to sit for a while before being served.

Food was good and so was the service until we finished our meal and felt like we were being kicked out the door, we hadn’t even finished our wine when the waitress handed us the bill saying “no need to rush but here’s the bill” a few minutes later she came back with the eftpos machine asking for payment! Was very rude and probably won’t be returning! I understand you might be busy and want to free tables up but this is not the way to maintain loyal customers! You might have gained an extra table 10 minutes earlier but you have lost 2 customers.

I went for a dinner with other italians friends. If you want an authentic italian meal La Lupa is the right place to go. The highest quality food, wines and beers directly from Italy and cooked in genuine and proper ways. The tastes remind me my childhood in Italy all gathered for Sunday’s lunch at my grandma’s. Good job guys!!!!!!

Went to Lupa Pizza Bar on Saturday night and it was packed with locals enjoying some high quality pizza with a great selection of Italian wines and drinks. It may be a tad bit pricey for West End, however the quality of food and service is high so I found it quite good value. Friendly waitress who made bang on suggestions with regards to food quantity and choices. Will definitely return.

Can’t really fault anything here! Awesome service, great wines, the entree of mozzarella with olive tampanade and tomato was amazing and the pizzas were really good!! Nice thin bases and great toppings. Dessert was also good! Would definitely recommend.

If you want authentic, light and just straight up perfecto Italian food - then you’ve come to the right place. Everything was divine! The service was amazing, they were very helpful at answering questions and suggesting desert wines.. the desert.... oh my lord.

I can not wait to return. It’s a MUST TRY guys!

Been here numerous times and for the most part it has been excellent. Only one time the pizza wasn’t as consistent as previous. Authentic style pizza, excellent service.

Easily my favourite pizza place in Brisbane! And, easily may favourite (Italian) wine list. Pizzas tend to be simple, very well done affairs, with terrific firm and crusty bases. In short - simple food, and excellently (and that wine list....)

Lupa Pizza Bar has just opened in Brisbane’s West End on Montague Street and is soon to become a hit with the locals with their great wine list and roman style pizza!. My friends had done some research and were especially excited as Lupa has a dry Lambrusco on their wine list. This type of wine is apparently very hard to come by outside of Italy. We ordered the rose Lambrusco as well, but as soon as I tried it, the dry Lambrusco was the one for me! Paired perfectly with the cooler evening (side note – what is happening Brisbane?! So cold!) and the fresh pizzas.
