Only been to Taro once but I definitely want to go back. Their ramen is very nice and flavourful with a good amount of meat and seasonings. Broth had a nice flavour too.
I have found this restaurant chain to be authentic Japanese Ramen. Meals always good. I had one issue there once and Taro himself gave me a $30 voucher to compensate. Solid Japanese cuisine and work ethic.
Usually frequented taro's express in the city so im well aware how good it is. Definitely one of the best ramen in Brisbane. Would recommend!
Stumbled across this place and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of their Ramen dish. I ordered a side of chicken karage it was simply amazing! Tender on the inside and nice crispy on the outside. The ramen soup was delicious and the noodle itself was nice and bouncy. I can’t fault any of the dishes that I had. I went there on a weeknight and it was still full even though the surrounding shops were mostly closed by then.
Fully recommend this place if you are in the mood for some quality ramen. 🍜
Can’t believe I haven’t reviewed Taro’s before!! Nothing compares to Taro’s unique flavour - soooo flavoursome, perfect ramen every time. This particular venue is also my favourite of all Taro’s - it’s always busy but so worth it when you get to sit outside on a cool night! 🙌
Highly recommend for ramen on a cold night! The best I’ve tasted in brisbane so far. Especially the pork flavoured ramen, the thin straight noodles is made fresh in-house and is so chewy and yummy. The pork soup is thick creamy and salty, the best combo with the noodles. Excellent customer service, waiters always come with a smile. Also, no MSG used in the soup! Good place to come with your date or your friends :)
At first we were not sure, but we had an idea of what it might be like. Exceeded our expectations! The ordering was fun and easy, the delivery of drinks and food was fast and the meals were hot and delicious. The 3 of us shared everything we ate. My only complaint, if you can’t eat seafood in your noodles there was not very many alternatives. We did the veggie noodles, but is was not a soup... that’s what we were really looking forward to.
Note: BYO is available and that is a plus!
WARNING to those who are unfamiliar with the area! Don’t park your cars in the small complex across from Taros!!!
My partner and I usually go to the Taro’s in the city but decided to drive a bit further down to Ascot. This was our first time in that area so we decided to park in the small complex where the kebab shop is. BIG MISTAKE!! After walking back from getting cash out (approx 15 minutes) OUR CAR WAS TOWED!! And had to pocket out $450 to get our car back...plus no ramen!!
However, despite our night being ruined we did come back for ramen a couple days later (making sure to park in Taro’s carpark this time). The usual friendly service and yummy fresh ramen you would expect at any Taro’s restaurant! We also noticed warning signed inside the restaurant warning patrons about the towing which we wished we saw earlier 😂😂
Great taste in a perfect serving size! The ramen is also very customizable so you can get exactly what you want.
Staff are also as warm and friendly as their ramen
I came here with my friends on my birthday.Pretty tasty Ramen. A little smaller serve than most Ramen's , but its very well priced, in a great location and staff are very quick and friendly.
My favourite ramen place in Brisbane located in such a nice and quiet suburb! The broth is rich, tasty & delicious, the egg is cooked perfectly and the noodles and pork go so well together. Overall = perfection.
Went with my family for lunch here, can’t quite remember what I had ordered but the soup and noodles were so nice. Hope I can come again soon, I think this place is now one of my favourite ramen restaurants. The bowl was super filling and delicious 🤤🤤🤤
Love coming to Taros Ascot. The ramen is authentic and you can tell the owner is passionate about food and Japanese culture. Plenty of ramen options - tonkotsu shio shoyu miso bases. Every month there are special ramen dishes and was lucky to try Truffle ramen (truffle fettuccine, truffle oil and fresh shaved truffle) it had the signature tonkotsu broth and the richness was there. All dishes are customizable meaning you can control the noodle firmness, add or remove elements all on a convenient electronic order pad at the table. Pay up front one bill per table. Also served Japanese beers and drinks.

My favourite restaurant in Brisbane. Faultless Tonkotsu ramen, I have it with vermicelli noodles so it is low gluten (soup has soy sauce I think). Amazing kakiniku pork, worth adding that and The Works...big fan of their soya sauced eggs. Have eaten here dozens of times...even have the apron via their loyalty card. Husband likes the vegetarian stamina noodles and cheese gyoza. Don't go on peak nights as it's a bit mad...I like either eating off peak or ordering online. Love that they are MSG free and use local Bangalow Sweet Pork.
We checked out the godfather or ramen in Brisbane - Taro's.
We got tonkotsu red (not spicy at all though unfortunately), miso pork, spicy tofu, wagyu tataki and gyoza.
This place is consistently awesome - the tonkotsu was nice and thick, thin slice of chashu was tasty and it's good quality pig so it can be forgiven being so small a portion. Just needed a bit more of a stir of the tare into the broth as it was a little under-seasoned at the top of the bowl - but still delicious. Noodles were nice and chewy - a major drawcard for this guy who makes his own noodles. Not that I'm a fan of making something if you don't need to - but in this case it is worth the effort.
Miso isn't my thing and neither are thick noodles in ramen, but it was still tasty.
Tofu - I don't like tofu and this didn't redeem it for me, but it was a huge portion which is good for people who like quantity.
Gyoza - the filling was really underwhelming unfortunately - needed some basic seasoning
Tataki -nicely sous vide beef with a light ponzu, tasty, tender and light.
Even with my criticisms, this place gets 5 stars. Im here for ramen and I come often and it's mostly excellent so it deserves respect.
I found myself on Racecourse Road twice this week and on both occassion I chose Taro's Ramen. I believe Taro's was one of the first movers into the specialised ramen market in Brisbane.
At Taro's Ramen you order through an Ipad located on each table. It's easy to use and has options that other ramen stores lack; such as noodle firmness and broth salt levels.
The first day i ordered my favourite type of ramen-Tsukemen ($14.90). This is a dipping ramen and the soup is typically more intense in flavour. I enjoy all tsukemem but i thought the broth could have been richer and more intense in flavour.
As you are able to choose how firm you want your noodles and I went for 'firm'. Even though I chose firm, it was still too soft for my ideal noodle. The toppings are excellent at Taro's. The egg was perfect for ramen. Seasoned well with a gooey yolk.
On the second day, I ordered the Red Tonkotsu ($15.90). Once again I ordered firm noodles and this time I elected to have my soup 'more salty'. It was a mistake asking for the more salty option, as i believe it would have been just right without it. The broth was beautifully rich and creamy. You can easily taste the time and effort that had gone into it.
I also like the vast variety of condiments available. I took photo to illustrate.
I highly recommend Taro's Ramen.
Loveeeeee this place. The most genuine ramen in Brisbane, just like Japan. We have tasted everything in the menu and none to fault. Gets busy in the weekend so prepare to queue.
Amazing enthusiastic ramen!
We just happened to be in Taro’s Ramen on our last night in Brisbane.
They are surprisingly professional and very seriously about their Ramen. You can tell their passion and love by the dish they served.
We ordered special corn cold noodle, very special and broader my view actually, it is a must try. The stock is very creamy and very tender smoky chicken, there is a little bit motcha oil and a scoop of cream on top of the bowl. Very special combination but actually works very well.
Definitely will come back when we visit Brisbane next time :)
Loved the tonkotsu ramen! Gorgeous milky broth with a touch of garlic oil, noodles with just the right amount of "crunch", perfectly-done egg. My only gripes are that the toilet is a distance away (and even then there is just one toilet stall shared with others), and that the portions are very small for the price. $15 gets you a small ramen with ONE piece of charsiu and half an egg. Extra charsiu is charged per piece... so if you wanted, say, 3 pieces of charsiu, you would be paying for the base ramen + 2 extra charsiu! My small ramen eventually cost $20.
Despite that, will still return for the delish noodles. :) Would be really nice to get slightly more generous portions though.
I eat here all the time and LOVE it! The food is always incredible, 11/10. The staff are so lovely, and even though the restaurant gets busy sometimes it’s never an unreasonable wait time.
Went to Taro’s on New Year’s Eve and was not disappointed! I ordered the shoyu ramen with an extra 1/2 egg. A beautiful light broth with perfectly cooked noodles and creamy hard boiled eggs - it reminded me so much of the ramen I had in Tokyo! The staff were very friendly and my order came out very quickly. I also had some pork gyoza and edamame; the gyoza was so juicy and delicious I could’ve eaten several plates of it!
I highly recommend coming to Taro’s if you want a taste of Japan or even just want some amazing comfort food!
Taro's was so good for my cold. So delicious. The egg and pieces of meat are full of flavour. It's a real shame that they don't deliver. Hopefully soon!
Came here for their Tonkosu ramen. The broth was so complex and packed so much flavour! The noodles were fresh and cooked to perfection. Their homemade gyozas were spot on, crunchy on one side and the filling nice and juicy. Definitely serving up some quality ramen here.
Looooove Ramen!!! And Taro's Ramen is amazing . There isnt many people working there and it depends how busy it is which can effect food waiting time but there is a bit of a traditional vibe here, japanese staff , the table seating is pretty average bit the ramen is amazing!!! Having been to Japan recently this Ramen is very authentic.
Delicious and filling everytime! The service is super fast, and the gyoza are a must have! The beer on tap is also pretty delicious too! Winner
There were two reasons for this visit, the first to introduce my partner to ramen and the second to try the truffle ramen. The truffle ramen is full of flavour with a robust tasting soup. My partners ramen had a nice silky feel but limited in flavor
We ordered Kara salad rice🥗 and Fire Tonkotsu Ramen 🍜 🔥 we felt like we were in Japan 🇯🇵 loved it. Highly recommend this place if you miss Japanese food
The tonkatsu is amazing!
This is one of my go to places when I want something to warm me up or want something homely!
I would recommend to anyone!
Taro's ramen is made with genuine pride, love and passion. The stock is thick, rich and porky. The hand made noodles are chewy and cooked to perfection. A lot of thought and care has gone into sourcing and selecting the ingredients - and the result is an amazing bowl of ramen albeit a little pricey.
This is my favourite ramen shop in Brisbane. Best broths, so delicious, so many options, full customisation of every bowl available. Sides are dope as well. Gyoza and the sliced rare beef are delicious. I crave their ramen every week and have to try and make it there at least every second week. Definitely try some different types of ramen until you find your perfect one. My favourite is the shoyu with a tad of chilli oil and an extra egg. So good. Staff there are also awesome and helpful, service is quick and the restaurant can get busy but I've never reserved a table and max I've had to wait is 10 minutes. So good, if you like ramen you need to try Taro on racecourse road! Best ramen in Brisbane!
The best. There's no other way to put it. All Taro's locations are great, this one is just the most convenient for us. Never had better ramen (admittedly, I've never been to Japan); fire tonkotsu (extra egg) could be my death row dish. Also, great Japanese beers here.
Am a fan of this place, whenever I go here I get the 'Fire Tonkotsu' which has always been on point... and also just started getting 'The Works' in an attempt to up my protein intake and therefore making me too full to eat all the noodles -it doesn't work. The whole bowl is delicious, so I just end up eating EVERYTHING. I also get the Charsiu Rice for my toddler who loves it... I unfortunately end up eating this too when she's done with it...(the worst place to visit when you're trying to diet!)They've got indoor/outdoor dining.... and on the table inside you can get some free pickled greens and pickled ginger to enhance your meal...... only thing dodge here is the toilet as it's in the garage of an apartment block next door.
Really lovely and friendly staff the Ramen was made well I had spicy pork ramen and karaage.. taken for birthday lunch and was impressed thanks guys keep up the good work
Oh my wordy this is good!! Taros is not your run-of-the-mill ramen bar. Anyone who's staggered home after a big night out in Japan knows how awesome that bowl of goodness is. But Taro's turns that into a gourmet masterpiece. The broth is sooo silky it surely has an entire pig rendered in it! The noodles made fresh on site. Do not miss this awesomeness!!
Oh, and very nice ceramic bowls (with no chips) unlike many ramen places that serve in plastic cheapies. It's like eating ramen at your Nanna's!
After some discussion with a couple of my fellow ramen lovers, it is agreed that the ramen at Taro's is:
A. Rather overpriced (but hey it's Ascot!);
B. The toppings are on the stingy side;
C. A certain competitor's ramen is heaps more delish.
I ordered the large ramen, and yes the menu states the extra $5 charged is for noodles and soup. However the 3 thin slices of chicken and half an egg does not do justice for the rest of the (very deep bowled) dish. It's not proportionate - It just makes it boring.. Unless you really love noodles and soup. On the plus side, I took the lefties home and had it for supper!
My partner in crime ordered the karaage curry, which again, was light on the chicken portion (three tiny little chicken pieces). But it was our preferred dish and we almost brawled over the last piece of chook.
The lovely, friendly waitress who made an appearance toward the end of our meal did make the carbs a bit more digestible. It is a guessing-game when it's your first visit and the only interaction you have for ordering is an iPad. Worth a visit if you're in the mood for a lot of carbs..
Arrived at around 12 on a Tuesday, service was super pleasant and fast, we got seated immediately and started to order via an iPad locked at the table.
I ordered the red tonkotsu ramen, ive had the original one before and it was fantastic so i thought of trying one with a little spicy in it!
The red tonkotsu was just as fantastic, but it had a little chilli oil mixed it. It was not very spicy though, I'll prolly come back and try the fire tonkotsu!
The ramen was beautifully prepared, noodles were perfect, charsiu was cooked to perfection. The broth was the best bit, not salty, and extremely light and smooth. I could not get sick of it and i finished all the soup!
I'll definitely be back again, this is one of my favourite ramens now
I would definitely prefer Taro's Ramen at Hamilton than to the one in CBD. The service is better and the food also. Their Gyoza are delicious, I would definitely recommend.
Taro's is the undisputed king of Brisbane ramen! Service good, takoyaki good, ramen excellent. The place is busy but not too busy. The iPads make ordering seamless. Such great value. The tonkotsu is so creamy and flavoursome, and the noodles have the perfect amount of chew. I could bathe in the broth. You've got to respect a man who continually strives to create the perfect ramen!

I went to this place the other night and even though they don't have vegetarian ramen, I liked what they had on offer. I left feeling full and content. Friendly staff and atmosphere, it reminds me of being back in Japan. PS. I hope you will consider offering a vegetarian ramen (I loved the noodles in the dry noodle dish, so great!)
Quite a tasty broth. I had the spicy tonkotsu and added the extra pork which is the Biruni?! Definitely yummy and melts in your mouth. Although quite pricy compared to the other places, I don't mind it as service was quick and enough for me to finish everything! Oh and of course, the authenticity of the broth and noodles! Will return.
Ramen soup base was full of flavour and was very full bodied rich. Noodle was a little more on the tough side.
Service was quick and responsive for what looked like the most busiest restaurant at Race course road on the night.
It is the most expensive ramen I have had around Brisbane so value for money is a little average, extra noodles charged at $2.50 and small ramen starting at $14.90.
The ramen here is fantastic - broth is smooth and flavoursome, the noodle consistency is always just right. Service can be quite slow sometimes but food is worth the wait
Glad that I can satisfy my Taro's cravings with this outlet whilst the city one waits to relocate to their more permanent position. The tonkotsu ramen is delicious (as always). We decided to grab a packet of drunken eggs to take home, and wow! It's worth a visit just to grab a couple of those!
Best Ramen in Brisbane so far.. Purely fantastic broth and noodle. The fire ramen here is to die for as well for spicy lover. Price is bit expensive, but the quality is exced our expectation.
Went here on Sunday night after picking up my parents from the airport. The restaurant isn't much to look at but they make delicious food. They have an electronic ordering system at each table. You select your order and then send it through to the kitchen. The meals came out quickly. We ordered gyoza and kaarage as starters and then for mains my husband and I had Ramen and my parents shared a Kimchi rice bowl. My husband found his ramen to lacked flavor, but I think it just wasn't his taste. I had the same dish but with chilli oil and it was nice enough. My parents enjoyed the rice bowl. I would go back if I was in the area again but I wouldn't drive from the southside for it specially - not with Sunnybank so close.
Heard about this renowned Ramen Den so many times and eventually got the time to have a Sunday lunch. It is the first Ramen eatery that has installed the i-pad ordering system. It is handy but lacks the Ramen Den atmosphere. Having said that the food did not let me down. Pork Gyoza and Buta Kakuni were not the bad choices for entree, particularly the muster matched the pork pieces so well. The hero should be the soup base, which was concentrated with the essences from pork bones. Cha Siu was the best I had among the other Ramen Den, though, the portion of Ramen was not big and seemed too pricy.
Easily the best ramen I have eaten in Brisbane - maybe even outside of Japan! I think the price is a bit on the high side but when you understand the amount of work that goes in to that perfect bowl of pork boney goodness you don't care about how much it costs! You just want it in your belly!!! SOOO GOOD.
Oh and for sure you MUST get the black garlic oil.... it's like an umami explosion!
Great place for ramen with hi-tech ordering way (using ipad in each table). Order came quick with pretty hostile service of Japanese style. The soup is amazing, but still the lacking thing is they just serven 1 slice of pork in the ramen. But definitely come back!
One of the BEST Ramens in Brisbane. So authentic! Service may not be up to tee all the time, but there is always a smile, and the food, always consistent and delicious!
Weekend hangover
Taro's, how you save me!
Ooii, Oishii!
... And seeing zomato is brevity-challenged, to make up 140 characters : Mmm Yebisu!
Outside of Japan this is the best ramen I have ever eaten.
A great selection of different add ons are available and also lots of Japanese beer which makes me very happy !!!
We love taro's ramen for dinner! I always get the white tonkatsu which is my absolute favourite. The broth is flavoursome and punchy. Like most ramen the servings of meat and egg are quite small so you may have to order more. The takoyaki is great but expensive. I prefer this one better than the one in the CBD. The service is relatively fast and the staff are polite and friendly.
As a big fan of Ramen, of course I am visiting Taro’s in Ascot.Had a dish of gyoza and a fire Tonkotsu Ramen, have to say: both of them were quite impressive.
Let’s start from the gyoza. Big tick for this home-made pan fried dumpling, it got a perfect balance of meat and veggie. The dipping source was also good. One small thing I would like to say; the crispy side has some burnt component on it, doesn’t affect the taste, but not pleasant as well.
The soup base of the Ramen was savory, rich but not salty. Instead of pork belly, Taro’s using leaner part for their Cha-Siu (pork slice) which is not as tender as pork belly, but more chewy. I like both of them. The egg was boiled and marinated deliciously; can taste the fragrant of soy source and the sweetness of the egg yolk. The last thing I would like to talk about is the noodle, it was al dante and full with the wheat flavor. However, it could not absorb enough soup which made the taste a bit bland.
Overall, I do like the food Taro’s provide. Quite satisfied.
With Taro's closing in the CBD at the end of August, it occurred to me that I hadn't been to their Ascot store yet. So one cold evening when my friend asked me where we ought to go for dinner, I suggested that he drive me to Ascot to have a nice bowl of ramen there. . The store itself was very much similar to the CBD store, which meant counter service, and DIY drinks and condiments.
If I had to pick a last meal - it would be Taros tonkotsu ramen. Honestly it's the best thing ever.
We came, we saw, we ramened, we liked. I'm just going to write some additional stuff as the review has to be 140 characters long, but really, nothing more needs to be said.
I loved the quality of ramen and soup at Taro's Ramen in Ascot. We only just went there last week and I've already been thinking about revisits all weekend. It does seem to be a bit dearer than some other ramen shops that I've been to but there might be a location factor involved too. The tonkotsu soup base itself was perhaps the best I've tasted, although I would need to blind taste them all in quick succession to be sure!
Extreme creamy and tasty soup, top 1 ramen in brissy!
The noodle soup was fantastic.
Everything at taros is homemade which really sets it apart from many ramen shops . 16 dollars is really good value for a ramen that is completely homemade including noodles. The side dishes are great as well I recommend the rare wagyu with shaved red onion lemon slices ponzu and wasabi . Fresh affordable food is becoming harder to find and this ticks the box definitely recommend taro s ramen !!
Great ramen in the northern suburbs!. With the ramen trend catching on, it was a great relief to have a ramen shop in the northern suburbs. Being able to feast on good ramen without needing to brave the traffic into the city or across the city to the Southside, is a godsend.
The prices are a little steep compared to the ramen shops you find in the southern suburbs. But remember where this shop is, it is on race course road where every other restaurant would at least cost you half your arm!
The broth was very flavoursome. Ramen really really good! Curry cheese gyoza was different and yummy.
Service was brief and polite, like what you would expect from a japanese place.
I would return, when I'm too lazy to brave the traffic or the drive.
I have had better broths and ramen. But it is good enough to have me return.
I've been going to Taro's in the City regularly for quite some time now. Extremely happy they've now opened in Ascot as I live in Hamilton. Went there last night and had tonkotsu ramen (extra egg, always) and Gyoza. Both were delicious and on par with the City location. Will no doubt be back weekly!
Best Ramen in Brisbane. So glad to have a Taro Ramen in my neighborhood - as good as ever but takes half as much time to get there!
