Just celebrated my birthday here last night, service was amazing they surprised me with a free plate of macaron and chocolate by the end of the meal. but we already ordered and finished our desserts. which i highly recommend, for the night the cookie and cream creme burlee was my favourite, and we also ordered the chocolate pudding (comes with the real vanilla ice cream). and a not so sweet mango cheesecake. love all the desserts there.
It’s maybe the best buffet dinner I had in a hotel
Loved the barbecue live stations and the fresh seafood .I would like to say a big thank you to the young blond French girl .She was so friendly with us and helpful, she made us feel like home
A French influenced dining experience, offering carefully selected dishes by either a la carte or a degustation (tasting selection). Although located is in the busy Sofitel ground floor the restaurant is out of the foot traffic and noise within a separate room with fine views of the Brisbane skyline. A good selection of wines by the glass or bottle is available at prices reasonable for the quality of the offering. We selected a NZ Pinot Noir (Ha Ha was the label) which proved a fine match. The menu has a selection of fish, fowl, lamb, beef and vegetarian options. Fish of the day was Snapper. Our lamb was perfectly cooked, with asparagus and in a reduction sauce, accompanied by white bean paste, black garlic and mustard. Similarly, delicious was our other dish of Tasmanian salmon, king mushrooms and zucchini. Crème brûlée du jour was not the traditional vanilla but included Nutella, making it too adventurous for our taste. Despite luscious sounding alternative sweets, we opted for the cheese platter that was more than adequate for two. It included 5 cheeses, and a freshly made intense paste reminiscent of pears and perfect with the cheese selection, served with lavosh bread, sticks and water crackers. The nuts were very fresh and the dried muscats full of flavour. Service was exceptional showing excellent knowledge of the offerings and of last-minute changes in view of ingredient availability. All in all a great location for that intimate evening celebration.

Good atmosphere with friendly staff, the menu was different from the one here in this app, but still with many options. I picked for entree the scallops, which were perfect and tasty, for main i got the chicken with lime risotto, the chicken was tender in the inside and crisp outside but the risotto was too acid for me, couldn't eat much of that risotto.
There were a few parts of Prive249 that were outstanding. The service was attentive but not too overbearing. The food overall was good, paced nicely so not waiting too long or felt you were in a hurry. The old clock tower was a beautiful view. But there was nothing spectacular about the dishes, they felt very safe. The mornay scallops I would order again, and while the skin was perfectly crisp the meat was overcooked for my liking
One of the things I sorely missed from my journey down in Melbourne, was the dining experience we had at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. So when my colleague and I decided we needed a quiet dinner to wind down from a hard day’s work, we decided to try Brisbane Sofitel’s Prive 249. . For those unfamiliar with Brisbane’s Sofitel, the hotel is built right on top of Central Train Station, complete with the historical fascade and clock tower intact. There are two parts to the restaurant, one part is seating for patrons of the Thyme Buffet, which I had been to on a previous occasion whereas Prive 249 is situated in a secluded room for a more private dining experience. Upon arrival we were greeted and lead to the private room, where we were seated in a table next to the clock tower, with a little view overlooking Post Office Square.
Good food, great atmosphere and has the best service&hosts that are out of this world.. The minute that I walked in i knew that i was going to get treatment fit for a queen. Definitely coming back
Sensational food. I have wanted to visit Prive249 for some time now, and finally, I now have! The food is of the highest quality fine dining. Prive is exquisite and the mastery of the chef is well presented on the plate with great presentation and flavours. This is one of Brisbane's best dining experiences.
Splendid service and great food. Had the Pork Belly and Wagyu, well matched wines and superb dessert. Nice and quiet little spot in an otherwise bustling hotel.
Tucked away in the back corner it is often forgotten and always seemed empty. Never heard much about it but it filled my one brief for the night and that was somewhere quiet. Hotel food and restaurants don't always have a great rep, with the recent experiences I have this may have to change.
A delicious night out. I came here for a very special date and it did not disappoint.
The meals were brought out promptly and a good pace between each.
The entree, main and dessert were all well crafted, delicious and appropriately sized. By the end of the evening I was quite satisfied.
The atmosphere was really fancy and romantic with a great view of the gardens outside post office square.
The staff were friendly and always happy to explain the finer points of each dish.
One of Brisbane's finest restaurants.
The first restaurant that changes me to be a foodie. Remember the first time that I visited Prive 249, the dining expereince was extra-ordinary shock. There were so many 'first' that keep turning up in my mind. The first strong mushrrom flavour soup with unexspected presentation; the first wagyu that I ever had that bring me the taste of beef although it is only 5 scores and the first time that I found seared duck Foie Gras is so tastful and fine........ Service and ambient cannot be complained. Although it is only one hatted restaurant, I am proud of living in Brisbane. Thanks for Prive 249 and now I have tried nearly all voted top 10 restaurants in Brsibane, Sydney and Melbourne. The next step is heading to the top 10 in Asia....
Pleasantly Surprised. You never know what to expect when you take a chance and book at a new restaurant. Luckily it turned out to be a great choice to celebrate our engagement! If you want privacy and some peace and quiet while you dine, then this is the place for you. It was pretty empty on a Friday night with only our table and 2 others. Maybe people just don't know about this place but don't let that deter you. We were seated in front of the window with a nice view over post office square and the clock tower - so romantic. Our wine was decanted in a beautiful Riedel decanter which sat on the side table. Entree was the best I've had in a fine dining restaurant in Brisbane! I had a pork belly with crackling and watermelon dish that just exploded in my mouth (maybe because there were pop rocks in the dish!). Next came wagyu steaks which were cooked well but nothing mind blowing. We were too full for dessert but they bought out some petit fours with Happy Engagement written on it - so sweet! Overall an enjoyable night.
AMAZING!. I had the most beautiful dinner here with my family - we ordered the scallops, pork belly and foie gras, which were all to die for, particularly the popping pork. I had the beef fillet for main which was rich and delicious. Couldn't have been happier with the service, everything was top notch. This is such a little gem - we will definitely return.
Needs to work harder to be truely top notch. We experienced well designed and executed innovative food on the degustation menu, with the "popping" pork, duck risotto and wagyu beef the stand out items, with some service and wine improvement needed to match other top class dining venues. Overall my recommendation would be take 6 not 8 courses on their degustation, forget the cheese course and matching wines. Full review at Sniffbrisbane@blogspot.com
Wow!!! Came here for my birthday and what a gorgeous restaurant!!! Food is magnificent and delish! Staff are amazing and there service is spot on. Shout out to our waiter David who couldn't not b more helpful and professional....thanks for my birthday surprise too :)

A lovely night.. We went for our Anniversary celebration. The ambiance is beautiful, the view is nice, although the same view can be had at Thyme, next door. We chose the 6 course Degustation menu, with one matching wine course. Each course was delicious, the standouts being the Chestnut Velouté and the Wagyu. The matching wine was overlooked with one course, as was coffee, however amends were well and truly made to our complete satisfaction. The complimentary Petit Fours were also a thoughtful touch. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was fully booked, and we were in no hurry. Staff were very knowledgeable and helpful, and apologized profusely for the minor oversights. All in all, it was a most enjoyable night, and we will undoubtedly return. It was also a nice surprise to discover the Accor Advantage Plus card afforded us a 25% discount.
Stunning. We booked into the sofitel for night and had a wonderful dinner
Prive249.
We had the degustation menu with matching wines.
Everything was well presented and the food & wine was amazing.
I didn't like the decor or the feel of the place. It's only tiny restaurant with two little chandeliers which looked to small.
The restaurant next door had much more style.
Overall the service was great and food was outstanding. I can see why they won a "hat" award.
Wow! What an amazing food journey! Celebrated our wedding anniversary here and very much enjoyed the whole experience. We had the 8 dish degustation and found the food to be most delicious coupled with impeccable service. We were treated with complimentary champagne to celebrate our occasion and for the finale a delightful congratulations (see photo). This must be one of Brisbane's best kept secret!!
Degustation bloat. Loved the idea of this place - service and ambience exquisite and a perfect way to enjoy a happy anniversary date. The only problem? If you're hoping for some anniversary 'intimacy' at the end of the night, forget it - the food so rich and so plentiful you'll spend the rest of the evening lying flat out without being able to move!
It's definitely an old school French restaurant kind of thing with triple cream type sauces and salty gravys. The palate cleanser sorbet would have been welcomed three times during the meal. Surprisingly the rich chocolate bomb dessert was the least difficult to stomach (utterly superb actually) so worth the endurance.
Liked this place in so many ways, but make sure you have an elastic waistband on your trousers.
Fine dining at its best. Chose Prive249 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and it didn't disappoint. We had the 6 course degustation menu and were treated to tasty selections, elegantly presented on the plates. The highlight was the beef which was melt in the mouth tender. The service was attentive and non-intrusive. Perhaps the timing of the courses could have been a little closer, but it was nice to not be rushed through either. Overall a fantastic dining experience.
Excellent - personal niggles. I took my wife here mid week for our anniversary based on the review on this site and got everything all the best reviews have said, great food, view, service including acknowledgment of our anniversary at the end of the evening. I don't know why this place doesn't show up in more reviews?
My only personal niggles with the place is that it is part of a hotel and as such you get people who just want to eat in their hotel and dress down etc and also people on business trips such as the table next to us talking shop. Minor niggles when you want a perfect night but still a great place for a special occasion.
My partner and 2 friends decided to give Prive249 a try on Thursday night. It was a truly spectacular meal. The atmosphere, the view of the clock tower and ANZAC memorial, the service and the food. It was an experience. The sauces that came with my beautifully cooked steak.. I wish I had kept some of my bread! I will happily go back!
Perfect evening. We booked the restaurant for my partner's birthday, and Privé 249 made it a very special evening. Service was impeccable. The lovely staff truly went out of their way to acknowledge the special occasion without any prompting. Not only that, but the level of service was flawless - every detail was attended too without being intrusive. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for a special evening - elegant and sophisticated with soft lighting and beautiful views over the central clock tower. The meals are what you would expect from a fine dining restaurant - intricate, beautifully presented, and delicious. The three different sauces that accompanied my partner's fillet were amazing - the best we have ever tasted. We don't do fine dining all that often, so when we do, we hope the experience is that little bit special, and this experience surpassed our expectations. We walked out feeling that it was a beautiful evening, and money well spent. Thank you Privé 249, we will definitely come back.
Classy Tasty Romance. This restaurant far exceeded my expectations, being a hotel restaurant. Do not let the attachment to Sofitel fool you, this really is a dining delight. The room is romantic and beautiful and the atmosphere is perfect for intimate dining. There are also large round booths for larger parties which are roomy while still managing to be intimate. The food is marvelous - thoughtful and expertly cooked, and the service is attentive and helpful. What more can you ask for?
5 star. This restaurant is simply beautiful. The food, the view, the decor and the service. Have been here 3 times and it's pleasure every time. This is our favourite place for a special event.
Beautiful atmosphere and food!! This is fine dining!!! The restaurant fit out is stunning and the staff are professional and faultless... I went with another couple mid last year and we all thought the food fabulous both the presentation and taste. I had a beautiful pork belly . Serving sizes are generous. True class!!
Went there with my wife for her Bday! Excellent food and services. In fact it was better than what we expected!
Went there for my wife's b day. Excellent service with great food. The double cooked pork is very well done and the strawberry dessert is excellent!
The simply titled “Rudolf” could only have been about the venison and my favourite dish of the night. The slow cooked venison came with valrhona manjari chocolate jus, creamy butter mash and mushrooms with cherry tomato. Exquisite!
The menu at Prive249 is in French with English translations underneath and is spectacular. It starts off offering two amazing looking degustation journeys, six courses for $115 or eight for $140 and then finishes off with a very comprehensive a la carte offering. We were extremely tempted by the eight course degustation offering but with so many wonderful looking menu items not included in the degustation, we chose to order from the a la carte menu. Shortly after we had placed our orders, in typically fine dining fashion, some wonderfully soft and fresh bread rolls were delivered wrapped in a napkin to help them retain their warmth.
Located in the heart of the Brisbane CBD at in the Sofitel hotel, Privé 249 not only provides superb French inspired Australian cuisine, but also offers great views over Anzac Square and the historical Clock Tower above the central station. The 5-course Chocolate Décadence degustation designed by guest chef Pierrick Boyer from Le Petit Gateau in Melbourne sounded so tempting and was impossible for both of us to resist. I am so glad that I made the decision. All five dishes included at least one element of chocolate (which is no mean feat considering that some of the courses included Salmon and Szechuan pepper).
