Review Guzman Y Gomez - Brisbane

Luke Hauritz
Went to a GyG for the first time yesterday which was the Albert St store. The staff were very helpful trying to help me understand how everything works. There are a lot of different options so it wasn't easy for someone with no prior experience. The order was a bit late/delayed to begin with, a staff member apologized to me for it. When it did come it was wrong, they had a new member making it, I have been a rookie in a kitchen making errors before so I have definitely done that before. They apologized to me again and gave me a free Burrito card and some free corn chips. I liked my Fajita very much when I got the remade one, staff made sure everything was good when I left. They is a company that high value it's customers, I felt very much appreciated when I left and I very much appreciate them for it :)
Alex Kasacous
Service was quick. A little light on the pork in my spicy pork burrito (other GyGs add more meat) lots of rice and beans, not much else. The addition of pickled jalapenos, coriander, and habanero sauce helped.

Really delicious, fresh food! Very friendly staff. Clean store. Toilets on site. Heaps of seating.

This is the nicest most spacious Guzman I have ever seen. Nice and air-conditioned, we experienced lovely staff members and had some delicious tacos. Also loved loved loved the Mexican music they had playing to make a truly Mexican vibe.

We have tried eating out in different branches of GYG and this is the first time we ate at this branch and also the first time we got disappointed on what we have ordered. Quesadillas served to us are quite burnt and hard so it has a bitter after taste. And as what you can see on the image attached, it's not appealing to eat at all.
Liana Lee (HeyLilipad)
Good food, little bit lacking in the fries amount for the fries nachos. More than fair amount of guacamole :) very tasty.
Courtney Green
I don't mind the food, it's slightly above average and does the job. However, over the last few months, I'm talking 5 or 6 months, I've come in to get a steak burrito bowl and they don't have steak, thus I'm disappointed every time.

Lots of space to sit, outside seating also available. Can get a bit busy/long queue during weekdays. Still find the gyg in Chermside Westfield the best.

First time visiting Australia and what better way than to spend an afternoon shopping and having few beers, tacos and tortillas 😍 which I can’t get back at home, the ambience is superb, fast service and quality food, would highly recommend to try out if ya’ll want to spice up with the mexico cuisine. Looking forward to visit again

This is one of my fav lunch places. I am a huge fan of their new Cali Burrito. It's the perfect taste for me. Goes their at least once a week.

I ordered Mini Nachos with Chicken because the Regular size is too big for me, always coming here everytime I visit Brisbane. All ingredients fresh, add free for Onion, Jalapeños. One of must do Brisbane 😋
Linna (Gluten Free)
love the food! guess it would’ve been nicer if it the nacho fries were actually a combo of corn chips and fries like i thought they were 😰 but anyway, the food was still good. always a great place to come for mexican food.

ambience is good too. thankfully the place isn’t too dark to take good pics of food, but still maintains a nice spacious feel about it. staff were friendly as well.

Despite a line to order around dinnertime, still fast and efficient service! Ingredients were fresh in our burrito bowls (barramundi and chicken). However not sure if they have MSG flavour enhancers in the food since I was quite thirsty for a few hours afterwards... Lovely and spacious interior with many tables to eat at. Quality is consistent across all branches :)

GYG is my go to fast food Mexican. Always consistent in quality, flavour and service in all their stores. My absolute favourite thing to order are their nachos, either with chicken or pulled pork. I've tried every item on their menu and nothing tops the Nachos.
Mimi Kee
I love GYG! Regular customer here :) you guys deserve a 5 star rating for the best customer service and quality food. Keep it up! Free range chicken! Beating the fast food industry!

This place is bustling and busy and looks like it's run pretty well. In a pretty great location in the CBD, just a short stroll from the Queens Street mall down the little lane that is that part of Albert Street.
Sure, it's Mexican themed fast food, but it sure can hit the spot when you're looking for a quick lunchtime fill-up! A tad overpriced but the food usually tastes pretty fresh and is served quickly, which is what I look for in a fast food chain.

It is ok,but I may not come here again to eat due to not attractive enough. In conclusion, here can be such a place where you want to resolve your hungry problem.

Guzman Y Gomez was honestly one of my favourite options when eating out, and as a vegan it is one of only a few. I usually have no problems with the food and service although last night was very different! I ordered my usual meatless, dairyless nachos only to find various bits of chicken throughout!! This however wouldn't have been a problem if it had been resolved, but when I took the nachos back I got the response of a mere "Sorry, we're busy, it happens." and my nachos were merely taken away and not replaced. So for $15 I had gotten a bottle of water and no nachos... I am very unhappy with my experience and unfortunately will not be going back!

When we arrived there were lots of empty tables but the place was filthy! Clearly no one was clearing up and wiping tables!!
Ordered easily enough, managed to find 2 seats and a patch of table that wasn't disgusting!!
Half our order arrived, half was forgotten! They had no soft tacos, but no one came to ask would it be ok to use hard tacos instead! Not until we went to see where our food was did they even realise!! Then had to wait another 10 minutes on top of the 20 minutes we had already waited!!
Food was good, but the overall experience lets then down!!

As Guzman's go, this one is above standard in all areas - quality, service and cleanliness. As quick service Mexican goes, Guzman is probably my favourite.

Guzyman y Gomez is my go to place on Albert Street when I am undecided on my lunch. The food is great and consistently tastes good. The burrito bowls and Nachos are my absolute favourite
The Tasty Plate
Guzman y Gomez is the best! Everything if freshly made and packed with flavor, just the way good Mexican food should be. I love the spicy steak burrito bowl and the pulled pork nachos. Oh and the guacamole and chips are outstanding, hands down the best corn chips!
Mr X
It's sad to say that I only tried this place recently, and I wish I had done so much earlier! I had the regular open beef burrito to take away, which was flavoursome and generous in size. I loved the black beans they put it, it was a highlight of the dish! The ingredients looked fresh with the nachos being very crispy and after that meal I craved burritos for days. The service was friendly and there are a good selection of drinks to choose from.

I bought it home to finish and put some guacamole in it and it was truly amazing.

Guzman y Gomez is the best Mexican restaurant hands down and Albert St would have to be the best restaurant of them in the CBD. Great environment with Spanish music playing always, good service from everyone there and the portions are always generous with fresh ingredients always.

So good.
Beautiful flavours, wonderful staff and an awesome atmosphere in their restaurant!
Wonderful place to eat.
Just some advice when they say spicy they bloody mean it

Guzman Y Gomez is a very important restaurant. Other mexican places often add too much cabbage or tomato, or just don't have their flavour balance right. Guzman Y Gomez however has the perfect ratio of all the flavours. The black beans and rice are the perfect touch, their burritos are worth the $10 you pay for and I cannot stress enough how good the balance of flavours are. The service is unbelievably fast, and the only complaint I have is that the music can be a bit loud, but I'm too busy enjoying by burrito to care.
Foodcritic81
The few times that I went, I was disappointed. My burrito was pretty much just rice. As a vegetarian I was supposed to get free guac, I couldn't detect even a micro molecule of it. I gave it two chances, sorry but I won't be back
Dephialis
It's alright.. I'm a regular here, I do enjoy my chicken nachos with guacomole, but usually end up leaving pretty "ugh" afterwards. It is a good place though with a friend atmosphere.
AlexVic
Wonderful experience! Delicious food, lovely people, good value, and environment conscious with wooden cutlery and carton platter. The service was fast and friendly and the best thing for me is that Enchiladas or Burritos can be mild for real, in other places I asked for "non spicy" and was totally dissapoining. Now it's great to know a place where my money is well expended. Yum!!!

Guzman y Gomez - Brisbane CBD, Albert Street. I have gone on before about Guzman y Gomez, and how they have changed the perception of what Mexican food can be at a reasonable price. During, several night classes at the nearby campus their burritos have felt like a life-saver being substantially sized and certainly not skimping on the filling.

Once you have been to one of these places, it is pretty much the same. You have a condiments bench at the far end for after ordering, where the desired sauces and garnishes are collected to be eaten with during the meal. This one though, is fairly big with a good-sized dining area and has more of the distinct yellow outlay of the Mexican fast food chain.

Most of the time when I eat here it is - as aforementioned - on the run and before class. This time around it was no exception; I decided to try out their tacos. These are available in combos of two or three a serving. To much joy, the taco combos (and presumably the other combos including quesidillas) do not have to be the same single filling, adding variety. One night when I was eating on the run before night class I got the Three Taco Combo opting for a spicy chicken, a pork and a beef (mild for the sake of variety) all soft shell. These were tasty, used fresh ingredients and were double wrapped (the meat does get juicy without rice to soak it up). In amongst the meat there a tomato salsa and black beans. They were filling and were good sustenance before class.

It is safe to say that Guzman y Gomez still holds up as a reliable and somewhat healthy choice for a bite to eat on the run.

Was always a regular visitor until today. Ordered a burrito with no dairy and ran over on my lunch break to collect this only to find I was full of cheese on my return. I had no time to return for them to replace my order and requested a refund. I Was told I was unable to get a refund even though the guy who answered was the one who made the burrito! Anyway after wasting my break I now have no dinner and have spent $10.30 on the experience. Thanks, but I will not be returning!

Great nachos! Friendly staff and food is delivered promptly.

Couldn't even make an order. I was prepared to overlook being kept waiting this afternoon at the Eagle St Pier store while two cashiers had their heads buried in their registers while knowing I was there. Is it REALLY that hard to acknowledge someone is waiting while you keep them waiting?

While waiting, I noticed the extremely small size of a foil wrapped burrito waiting for a customer and decided then that my money could be better spent elsewhere. After collecting some Katsudon at a nearby shop for $3 less than the intended burrito (about 5min later), I noticed all the staff were sitting outside at the table enjoying a break. Guess having a break was more important than selling food for this crowd.

First and last time, won't bother if that is what $10.50 gets you at this place.

I consider this Mexican mcdonalds

Not bad at all. Insane quality to price and yummy ratio. Have had pretty much everything on the menu, nothing is disappointing.

Not too bad.... A small group of us went to the Albert St CBD 'restaurant' for a Friday lunch recently. I wouldn't call this a restaurant in the true sense - it's more so how McDonald's is a restaurant. Not that the food was bad - quite the opposite. The vegetarian nachos were really good - very flavoursome and enough to fill. The iced margheritas were good too - really strong :) too! I guess looking back it might, to some, seem a little exy - at $21 for the nachos and a drink, but we found it good value. I'd go again. We were served in record time - both while we waited to order, and then later for our food to arrive was really quick. It was extremely loud and busy, but everywhere is.....
Upsydaisy
Quick, quite good food, not too expensive, generous servings. Good value for money for a quick family dinner

Gracias Guzman. Love love love GYG ... we had dined in the valley restaurant a few times and quite enjoyed it. But our dinner here the other night cemented my love for this place. We needed a quick bite to eat before having to be at something at City Hall and this absolutely fit the bill.

We shared the nachos - to die for; hubby had a burrito and I had a couple of soft tacos. The flavours are just sublime and I love how they add so many beans to all the meals (I know some might not like this, but I love it - makes it all the healthier). I love how everything isn't smothered in cheese, I love how everything tastes so fresh, I love their guac (which I guess is made on the premises - it's such a burst of flavour) ... I just love this place.

Now for one to open out on my side of town - Kenmore or Mt Omm would be great (hint hint GYG).
Gabb
Small portions for what you pay. I wouldn't call it a restaurant more of a fast food place. I ordered here twice once at the emporium and the one at CBD both tiny soggy tacos that were $10, I was left pretty hungry after that.

YUM!. Best mexican food in brisbane by far! my girlfriend is american and whenever she visits she loves to eat here!

Best value mexican around. I am addicted to this place. It is cheap, the product is fresh and delicious and the service is really quick.
I highly recommend everything. I love the beef nachos and... yeah everything is good.
Fred
Very nice burrito. Very much enjoyed the best burrito I have found in Australia. Food was authentic, fresh and put together properly. Restruant was clean and pleasant. Service was very good....extras that were avaialble and free, jalapeño, onion, cilantro and a choice of 3 different hot sauces......wow what a change from the substandard burrito joints in Adelaide.... I got my burrito fix and will be happy to come back.
Inadizzle
Hit all the right spots!. I had the spicy pork chipotle burrito and some of the corn chips with pico de gallo. The food just blew me away! I also loved how you could have your fill of the condiments however you like and great on them for having brown rice as an option for the burritos! The service was pretty good not to mention the place being huge with seemingly unlimited seating.
Matthew Martin
Honestly, not particularly impressed. The food was passable at best but over priced. The whole place could have been done better looked like it was made out of an old studio, at one point saw a rat along the metal pipes overhead
Matt
Lived in California and had many burritos; Guzmans really does not compare. Chicken is not very flavoursome and the burritos are very small for the cost. However it's still the best fast-food burrito I have found in brisbane. Worth a try, especially if you don't know what a good burrito is
Atk
Not gluten free. I had a wonderful "gluten free" bowl last night at Gomez in brisbane city. I enjoyed eating it but not afterwards. 2hours later I had the familiar feeling that I definitely had eaten gluten and felt very unwell for the rest of the night. I won't be going there again.
JulesD
Burrito heaven. Best chicken burrito in the universe! I always grab one here whenever I'm in the city. The mini burrito with added guacamole is plenty. Doesn't really seem mini in size at all. Love that you can choose brown rice instead of white & that there's wholewheat wrap options too. Food always comes out so quickly. Love it!
FoodieGal
Fresh, tasty and affordable. I get cravings for their spicy chicken quesadillas that just MUST be satisfied. Great place to go with a group too, as everyone can order and pay separately.
Isobel Larkin
Best burritos in Brisbane. Absolute favourite burritos in Brisbane! I always get the mild chicken with guacamole and its SO good!
Jo Sorrentini
Only good if you're ordering a burrito. The burritos are very generous and seem to be enjoyed by all my friends who have eaten there. Unfortunely, being gluten free, I need to have the burrito bowl, which is nowhere near as generous and may actually cost a bit more than the burrito! Just mostly rice, some meat (which is tasty) but if you are hungry it won't fill you up. No fresh herbs to add some much needed zing and freshness to the meal. I asked for guacamole instead of beans but was charged extra for the guac (even though the beans are more expensive as an extra on the menu). I've given them 2 chances - no more!

Overpriced & Terrible service. Most of the staff at the counter have really strong accents and are rather impatient with their customers.
Food wasn't really that tasty and the price was disgustingly overpriced.
Skellie
Best Nachos I've Ever Had. Seriously. The best nachos I've ever had. Granted, I haven't sampled the nachos of the world, but still...The "beef" part was not some crap mince sauce, but actually slow cooked, stewed, tender beef! There was also cheese, beans, diced tomato and onion, and guacamole. Tastyyy..
My man had the beef burrito. Lots of rice, but he said it was pretty yummy :)
The music was fun and cool, and the decor was nice :) I also liked the idea of the cocktail slushies but I am yet to try one.
Eekimus
We went to the one at emporium quite some time back. One does not go to GYG to expect top quality Mexican food, so don't expect it. Ttake a hint, they have disposable cutlery. The location is great, and foosball table is awesome. The beef/steak always has a funny taste. Get chicken. Unlimited jalapeño and Tabasco sauce. Can't go wrong!
Josie
Try hard mexican. The CBD needs another average eatery like it needs a hole in the head but there you go - punters love cheap especially when it comes with disposable cutlery. Frankly this place should call itself McMexican because that's pretty much what it is!
Melissa
I once loved Guzman, now I don't.... I loved Guzman y Gomez when it first opened up. I went several times to the Emporium one. But the City Stores taste completely different. The salad has changed - and I had 'stones' or 'rocks' (not really sure what they were) in my salad. And so did my mum. Either way, the salad was not edible - and I'm not going back.
Sharmila
Yum Yum. Me and my husband just love this mexican joint. The food is just awesome and fresh... and the atmosphere great. We are always looking forward to going there! 5 Stars!
Dominique
Just terrible.. Worst mexican food that I have had. Ever. I LOVE Mexican food, I love spicy food, but I have braved Guzman y Gomez in two separate locations. Both made me feel sick. It is in no way, what so ever, "the real deal". Terrible. Terrible. Terrible.
Deza
Amazing, cheap and friendly. There's alot of Brisbane restaurants that could learn from this place.
Reg
Mexican Fast Food. This is inexpensive fast food. For sure it's better than a lot of fast food choices we get in Australia. I had the chicken burrito and the chicken salad. Both are filling and have a lot of flavours.
A nice lunch option every so often.
Orange Blossom Special
Inexpensive Authentic Mexican Food. Having been in North America we could tell that the meals we got from Guzman y Gomez were the real deal! The price you pay for large servings of hot, fresh food makes this restaurant extremely great value!!

It was a dismal, rainy Saturday afternoon (April 28) when my partner and I decided to try Guzman y Gomez on Albert Street. We had tried to get into this restaurant before on their opening night to get a free burrito, but after seeing the line-up go up the street and around the corner, we put off trying their food for another day!

We could hear the restaurant before going into it, playing some energetic, happy Mexican music. On a day like that rainy Saturday, the cheerful music was greatly appreciated!

We walked up the ramp into the restaurant which makes this restaurant accessible to those who have wheelchairs, mobility issues or prams. I always notice these things as not many restaurants are accessible!

Once in line, we were able to see the menu choices and both decided to try a burrito. I had the Beef Guerrero and my partner had the Spicy Chicken Guerrero (both $10.50). All burritos came with rice, cheddar, black beans, and salsa. You could choose to have your burrito in a tortilla or in a bowl. We both chose the tortilla. After placing our order with a very bubbly waitress, she gave us a number and we went to find a seat.

The restaurant has a lot of seating with choices of small square tables, longer tables for large groups or cafeteria-style seating, or ledges with bar stools. We picked a small square table and waited for our food. We noticed that all of the staff were Latin American and noticed signs on the wall that alluded to something like (paraphrasing) 'If we can't make it authentic, we won't make it'.

Our burritos arrived wrapped in foil and labelled as to what they were and when they were ordered. I like this idea as it takes away any confusion there might be.

I was amazed at the size of the burrito and its heft when I picked it up! This was going to be a big meal! Taking off some of the foil I was impressed at how perfectly the burrito was wrapped in its tortilla - on both ends preventing any ingredients from escaping as they have messily in the past at other establishments! My burrito was filled with mince beef which matched the rice and black beans in both delicate flavours and textures. The cheddar had a distinct contrast but blended beautifully with the other ingredients and was finished off by a non-spicy salsa. So delicious!

My partner also was surprised by the amount of chicken found in the burrito but found that it was not as spicy hot as was hoping for. But nonetheless, fantastic! We really enjoyed the black beans as they are hard to find on menus! Which is too bad because of how much they add to a dish! Thank goodness Guzman y Gomez is here!!

We left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied! It's nice to see an establishment pay so much attention to authenticity, quality and value! Our spirits had been lifted by the music and the staff! With a great combination like this, we will definitely return again and again!
Doris Yung
Quick service & satisfying. Tried the soft shell tacos and burritos tonight. Both were delicious and filling, especially the burritos as it had rice as the filling too! Will definitely visit again to try other items on the menu.
.iHo
* gasp *. It's opening on April 18th - I'm so excited!

Who loves cheap-ish tasty burritos? Go to Guzman Y Gomez! Choose from Spicy Chicken Guerrero, Pork Chipotle, Steak Chipotle, Beef Guerrero, Barramundi and Farm Fresh Vegetables. My favourite is the Chicken Guerrero (Mild) for $10.90.
Tammy
Not a restaurant, but not quite fast food, Guzman y Gomez has become one of my favorite 'cheap eats' in Brisbane, even if it's not quite authentic Mexican food [but then again, neither is Chipotle]. It's got a similar feel, with a super-casual ambience, and the occasional serenade and guitar.
Hannah Lewis
They have finally mastered Mexican that is as quick as fast food but taste a million times better and is much better for you
A Matter Of Taste
Meat is always perfectly grilled, you can feel it’s marinated in some great spices and the smokiness just takes it to another level. When you add to that a perfect tortilla and black beans
you’re in heaven.

An exciting new Mexican store opened just a few weeks ago down at Albert Street, next to Timezone.. There is also another one in the newly renovated Wintergarden.. With much anticipation and eagerness to try it, my friend and I thought it would be a good idea to give this place a try..
