Review Govinda's Vegetarian Restaurant - Brisbane

I was really happy with the service. The guy at the counter was just super happy to be there and serve us.Good value but no kofta balls as ran out. My favourite was the salad with avocado, roast veg and sunflower seeds it was delicious. The peanut butter cheesecake is also great.

Prices have gone up recently and portion sizing has gone down dramatically, containers for takeaway have gotten smaller and seperated for rice and curry.. absolutely ruined this place. Look at the photos. Lost a very regular customer. Your food is delicious, but don't go down the greedy path.

This place has really changed. It's lost its heart and soul. With the "feast meal" it used to be all you can eat with a free drink and dessert. That is no more. The prices have gone up. Nothing is free. They even charge for papadams. I know times are tough but you would expect more from a so called hare krishna place. I guess you can't blame them for taking money off the large population of normy office workers that frequent the area but it's at the expense of their original demographic, the hippies/punks, vegans/vego's and even the hare krishnas themselves. Such a shame.

Excellent value for money. Very cheap and large portions. Couldn't even finish it all, had to take the leftovers home. Great flavour. Koftas were amazing with the chutney.
Charli
Amazing value for money. The all you can eat lunch special includes a drink and dessert. The food was delightful and there were plenty vegan friendly options.

Govindas is a fabulous vegetarian restaurant servicing Brisbane's CBD. It is situated on George Street and is quite a convenient walk for lunch. The food is fresh and fabulous. I don't know how they do it, but each dish is extremely yummy. The issue I have when I visit here is which dish/es do I want?! The selection is great and healthy and sometimes I find it hard to choose between favorites!! The prices are really very affordable - you can get a FULL meal for less than $10! Well worth a try - I highly recommend!

The food is ok but the restaurant itself is filthy, dirty, and sticky from years of dirt and grime stuck to everything. It’s a health hazard and makes you wonder what the hygiene standards are in the kitchen. Look at my picture of the trays. Absolutely disgusting. Everything is dirty and sticky. Yuck. Definitely wash your hands after leaving the restaurant to make sure you don’t catch anything.
Koltzer
Great healthy vegetarian food for unbelievably good value! Especially the all you can eat feast for under $13, includes unlimited drinks and dessert! And just to ice the cake the staff are super friendly and hospitable.

Had heard a lot about the place , but was initially disappointed due to only takeaway options and no buffet menu.
However , the food quality was amazing. The samosa , vadas and chole were really fresh and tasty.
Will definitely recommend and will come back . Thanks Govinda !!

Looking for a Pure Vegetarian restaurant Govindas comes to your rescue. They serve some simple basic Indian food to some fusion appetizers and main course.

Flavored rice with curry should cost you around 10 $, which is a heavy meal for a medium eater. Loved the simplicity of the curries but disliked the excess use of potatoes.

Would love to try this place again for some Regular meal.
Marich
Very casual place near the old Dendy cinema in George St, feast is a great cheap option. Constant Hare Krishna chant playing in background. Very tasty food, dessert in my feast.

I tried this Govindas for lunch. At first I thought it was a one serve only place so bought additional koftas and lemonade. But I’ve just seen that, that was my bad and it was all you can eat.

Food was standard delicious. I really love the kofta and sauce. The veggie lasagne is great but I can’t go past the veggie curry.

I liked the cosy atmosphere as it was raining at the time. The price is nourishing and bang for buck.

Govinda’s serves some really awesome Indian vegetarian food and that reputation took us there. We were not disappointed as their rotis, rice and curries were lip smacking. However, the service was slow and we had to follow up several times after ordering.

I have vegetarian food on Tuesday and Thursday and Govindas has most of the times become my choice . One combination I really look forward to is Aloo paratha with tea . Aloo paratha is little spicy and served very hot. Tea with it becomes my personal favourite brunch option.
Rohit
I have been to this restaurant possibly ten times during my stay at Brisbane. This is the best vegetarian option if you are stay in the city. Their food tastes wonderful will definitely visit the restaurant on my next trip to Brisbane.

I had "All you can eat" feast meal with student consession. The meal is not spicy nor oily. The desert "semolina halva" was great but custard over it was bland. Overall it was a nice and cheap eat vegitarian meal.
Sid
Great taste for Indian food... Spices just to the required amount... simple and good... And therefore, a must have for nice decent lunch... The quantity is wholesome

Very good cheap eats as long as you're not looking for meat. Govinda's is a great place if you're in a hurry for curry. Don't expect fancy tables or candlelight. Expect good, hot, tasty, and big plates. The samosas are great and big enough to be a light meal.
Teapotcake
Went here with a very good friend of mine (who's vegetarian) for dinner and wow this place is amazing! Tbh I'm such a meat lover, but I was still super satisfied with the vegetarian dishes here: The taste was fantastic and hearty, the plate was generous, and just around $10 in total! So students who are reading this, try going here for a proper meal! The service is great too btw. TOP TIP WHEN YOU DINE HERE: once you finish eating, be sure to place your plates and utensils on the metal catering racks located near the kitchen. :)

While walking towards the city and looking for some Indian food I realised I had never eaten here before, so I decided was time to tick it on my list.

I had the lentil curry and a samosa.

The lentil curry had depth of flavour and eventhough it was a huge serve I could probably have had more of it, on the downside the rice was a bit cold but still enjoyable with the curry. Would rate it a 3.5 out of 5.

The samosa was huge, and was probably the best one I've had so far, perfectly seasoned by I could have had it a bit more spicy. The chutney was a nice compliment. Would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.

Overall the food is cheap and delicious but service is not the best.
Geoff
Great food WARNING HIGHLY ADDICTIVE
Many go for the meal deal but really the stand out dishes are the samosa, which most times are stunning. the spinach and feta in filo is beautiful, and the vegetarian lasagna approaches perfection. Don't overlook the exquisite chutneys. The venue is VSC (very shabby chic) and the former Beverley's Milk Bar literally from the WWII era. Thousands of Marines ate here. Dingy, terrazzo, multi leveled and very grimy but hey...I am sure that somewhere in the bhagvhad gita adherents are exhorted to eschew worldly pleasures etc. The incessant hare hare hare rama rama rama etc does become annoying. Value and probably good for one. Popular with young thin people who are probably vegan etc

FOOD: healthy and decent Indian food. Pure vegetarian and Satvik food which means you don't have onions and garlic. The menu is inflexible but reasonably priced.
SERVICE: counter service. Not bad, friendly but they don't have much time for you.
AMBIENCE: they recently updated the place and it looks much better although the place is still tight here.
LOCATION: on a busy street in Brisbane CBD. No views but conveniently located to grab a quick meal.
Hannah Brumm
So affordable and delicious. Plenty of seating and a nice quiet spot off the busy street. Friendly and accommodating staff with good knowledge of vegan requirements.
Lauren Green
Govinda's is the place to go for fresh, nutritious vegetarian food. The feast meal is the way to go - a taste of everything, a refreshing drink and tasty dessert for a small price. Highly recommend this place for everyone!
Ahlia
Lovely service, as always and same Govinda's quality. Wider range than some of the other Govinda's I've been too (i.e. breakfast options, more lunch options).
Kan Do
I've been to Govindas a number of times over the past few years when it was located at the end of Elizabeth Street Arcade. They serve some good quality Indian style vegetarian food at very reasonable prices, and the portions are huge. Not much has changed with their change in location to George Street.
It is a bit limited in that you don't have a lot of choice because all the dishes served during the week are pretty much the same except for the main vegetable curry which changes daily.
Bridget
Extremely cheap and good quality vegetarian food. Govindas has a wide range of currys, dahls, desserts and koftas served buffet style. It is what you expect for the price but it is pretty good. Would recommend to all vegans and vegetarians.
Hylamyc
The vegan food in this place is on average but the dessert is below my expectation.

The restaurant provides a cheaper option of dining in Brisbane which is quite good actually. I tried rice with vegan curry and kofta, it is actually quite nice for the vegan curry but I don't really get it for the kofta, may be because it's my first to try the food.

For dessert, I had a chia pudding that is quite large in size and I cannot finish it on my own. On top of the pudding there are some strawberry slices and blueberry and may be with some sort syrup. I feel like the taste is more like drinking some cough syrup that made me uncomfortable. It's a no-no for me.

But, if you're a on budget or a vegetarian or vegan, I would recommend their rice and curry dishes. There are also other dessert choices that can be tried next time but definitely not the chia pudding!
Srimati Findlay
Great place. Now they are open for breakfast from 7am! Yum!!!!!
The Aloo Parathas are fantastic and so are the Chia puddings.
Jessica Walton
Love this place! All you can eat vegetarian for $10 (for students). The food is very tasty and you walk out with your money's worth! Have to take your plate up at the end, very cafeteria styled but I still love this place. Bit hard to find but worth it.
Traci
Served cafeteria style pre cooked wholesome flavoursome food and always feel good after. Friendly staff quick to be served. Good for a quick healthier bite.
Kirra
I've been to Govinda's a lot over the years and it is always amazing. The all you can eat is incredibly cheap considering how much there is to offer and how full you get. All the staff are wonderful and the place is very serene and simple. My favourite are always the drinks and desserts but everything is delicious. The restaurant is hard to find if you've never been there before but just adds to the charm.
SunshineGirl
This is the first veg restaurant I tried when I moved to Brisbane. They serve authentic, mild, tasty and not too costly Indian veg food. Their ambience makes you feel at peace. Not much variety to choose from, but this place is definitely worth a try!
Misscharlot
you would have probably missed it ...cause is located on a second floor, but is always a good call if you want vegetarian dishes at anytime.
Vegout
YUM. So this is the probably the best way to spend $10 to $12 dollars in the city. This food will make you question why you don't eat dhal every single day of your life
J-Australian Girl
Great quality food, friendly staff and a low price. The feast meal is good value for money and the lemon and ginger drink is amazing. The soft music they play in the background also makes me feel at peace.
God Of Salmon
With Govindas, you'll never go wrong. $10 buffet feast here if you're a student. Need I say more?

Tucked into the heart of Brisbane city on Elizabeth st, a shy walk away from the myer centre bus stops- is this amazing restaurant hidden on the second storey of some suspicious-looking building. They offer a fantastic variety of food and the Kofta balls are nom, nom, nom. If you're starved, but jaded by the decision of choosing where to eat with all the options in Brisbane- Govindas is the place to go.

THIS is the place to go for the heartiest meal you will ever eat ( + its great if you're eating out with vegetarian friends).
Dephialis
Highly recommend. :). Amazing, amazing amazing, I have enjoyed it every time and couldn't get enough of this place!! Highly recommend it. :)
A.Reviewer
Brisbanes best restaurant. Honestly, love this place so much. The food is always amazing and if you order the buffet you get sooooo much food! I always ask for extra Kofta and I highly recommend you do too. Try it on different days of the week to find which menu you like best :)
Pikelou
Quaint & delightful. Thanks again to the hares for healthy foods and a break from the stresses.
Jake
Best meal in Brisbane for under $15.00. Served by the kindest of people. Healthy & happy.

Ripoff for the price!. I went to this restaurant and had a buffet. I was expecting a simple food but price was too high for what you get. extra roti costed you $2 and not in a buffet. Looked like a ripoff to me and I won't go again. ! Average food with overpriced menu.
Elliott Bledsoe
Krishna vegetarian in the city. Looking for something quick and tasty to eat in the city? Take the three flights of steps up to Govinda's, the Krishna vegetarian buffet restaurant. For $12.00 you can get a plate of chickpea curry, dahl, papadum and kofta balls and a ginger, lemon and mint drink.
Nat M
Amazing!. Great food, bargain price, nice service. I drive from North Lakes to West End just to go there :)
Jamakinmehungry
Hidden Gem and Go-to green day. Keep your eyes peeled for this place, its hidden just before the Elizabeth arcade entrance next to the hairdresser. Definitely my favorite place to go for a green day and great value. All you can eat menu is soo worth it (Koftas and the dessert is to die for!) and they also do a student deal :) Love it!
Jessmerritt72
Amazing. This place is amazing, and I am so glad so many others think so. I used to come to Govinda's as an impoverished idealistic uni student, and found it great value for money, tasty, healthy food and a great relaxed atmosphere.

Little has changed, am happy to say, and it is great to see places like this surviving. Lot of fond memories from Brisbane from the early 90s, most of them are gone, but this one hangs in there!
Sproner
Very good veggie menu!. At first I thought I was walking into a 1960's English council flat but DO NOT be put off by this.

The guys here are ever so friendly and the food is delicious, very reasonably priced. There is a set menu for lunch time and an all you can eat buffet.

Highly recommended.
Tris
I have been going to this place for 25 years and every time is awesome! Love it! The other govindas around are great to and usually a little quieter - stones corner and west end. Go there just for the kofta balls.
Jo
Good food..
Lumr
Fun!. First of all, you should know that Govindas is not a traditional restaurant.. so if your looking for a high end restaurant to dine at I wouldn't recommend here.

However, this place is perfect for a big nutritious meal (all vegetarian) at a low price. It has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere that allows you to simply enjoy the good food.

I will definitely be back.
Morelia
$12 all you can eat = great value! Seriously the best kofta balls I ever had! (Y)
Justin Mach
Filling but not satisfying and the place feels like a soup kitchen/jail. The meals are cheap so I guess you get what you pay for..
TanGola
Highly recommend. We had a wonderful meal here on 29th April. The staff were super friendly, welcoming and generous. The food was also generous & super tasty. Great hidden gem of the city.
Monica
What great value! Went to Govinda's for lunch a few days ago and was really impressed. For a restaurant in the cbd, I was expecting prices to be through-the-roof for small servings. I was wrong! Got a great tasting, quick, simple meal for $8 that filled me up!

The decor is simple, and there isn't really a restaurant atmosphere as such; it reminds me of restaurants in India/Nepal- simple, and with food from family recipes with a home-cooked vibe.

Govinda's doesn't need all the sparkle to make it worth a visit! This place shows that vegetarian food isn't always a boring salad!!! Try it out! You've only a pocketful of change to lose!!
Always Hungry
Govindas in Elizabeth Street (next one over from the mall) has all you can eat and drink for 12.90. The vegan dishes today include Dahl, rice, salad, kofta balls, papadams, eggplant masala and vegan trifle for desert and were all delicious. There are other vegetarian options also including things like pizza and lasagne.
Conveniently loctated in the CBD centre within walking distance of the bus and train stations and the backpacker district.

No. Just no. As an arden.... No. Just no.

As an ardent carnivore having a vego partner has taught me a thing or two about how outstanding vegetarian food can be. Govinda's however is an insult to food (especially vegetarian), dining atmosphere, and service. The sparse, small plastic tables combined with school counter style service and zero background noise ruins any chance at creating an atmosphere. The food was bland in flavour and ran me through an adventure of textures ranging from uninspiring to downright unpleasant. I have to concur with other reviewers who have likened this place to a soup kitchen or prison. Except in those places I assume the food is served hot and not luke warm.

A Vegetarian/vegan menu is no excuse for bad food. I can forgive many things done by a mostly benign cult, but an awful dining experience is not one of them. Will never return (or find faith in Lord Krishna).

Ripped off. Just totally got robbed by this Govindas.. walked in with my wife about 1:40pm on a Friday arvo.. the server (guy with glasses, striped black & white shirt) must have seen us coming and thought he would teach these fools a lesson.. we took the feast $12.90 option, (I had the gluten free version) and my wife had the normal version.
The server gave me a plate of steamed rice with some chickpea swill on the side and some crappy iceberg lettuce and grated carrot salad a 3 year old could make. My wife got basically the same plus 2 mangy kofta balls. I am in shock because my experience of Govindas has always been so good and this was sooooo bad!! Normally I would have said no way, money back please but there were people behind us and I was pretty much basically kind of stunned! I will never be back and I recommend that everyone reading this either avoid the place or be careful to actually get what you want without getting ripped off.
Amy Shambrook
Delicious vegetarian food at a bargain price. I love the dessert and the drink too. One of my favourite places to eat.
Rosy Delwala
Great value for money but most importantly the halva and custard dessert is the main reason I go here, just melts in your mouth!
Nomnom
Thumbs up. Not the sort of place that would impress any pretentious princess, but that's the whole point. $12 for all you can eat feel-food food, you can't go wrong. Best Kofta balls on the planet and delicious halva. Yum.
Linda
I remember eating at govindas a while back now, but from experience it was like eating jail food! Would never go back.
Lauren
Best vegetarian food I have ever had. Almost converted my meat eater husband. Cute cafeteria style restaurant.Friendly staff. So so cheap. We'll be back :)

Govinda's - Central Business District, Brisbane. Walking in Govinda's, you could be forgiven for forgetting that it is still in the Central Business District. Going up an otherwise unsuspecting narrow staircase (with the sign above it) from the street level up a few flights, Govindas modestly presents itself as sort of a backroom. Despite its nigh-invisibility it is immensly popular with a variety of people. There is a good reason for this.
If you can muster the willpower to track this place down, you will find not only great food but a partial retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city - whatever hour of the day it is.

Inside is basically no-frills. There are the tables, the bain marie, cash register, some reading materials (often about their cooking classes and vegetarianism) and a painting and that is about it. It is modest in appeal.

Service here was no-frills as well, but still quite friendly.

They have a "feast" here which is of exceptional quality, for around $13 you get rice, dhal, the day's curry (always vegetarian - it was mixed vegetable korma this time), pappadams, kofta balls with tomato chutney, a side salad, halava with custard and a ginger, mint & lemon drink. You are allowed to go back for seconds.
All up the meal was quite wholesome with good quality ingredients and actual diverse varieties of vegetables. The rice was steamed and flufy, the dahl consistent wtih lentils. The curry could have been a tad spicier (though that cannot be said for the chili relish - do not try having a mouthful of that) but the sauce complimented the rest of the meal. Pappadams are pappadams and the salad was a simple mixture of green leaves and the dressing was a raita. The best part of the meal though, was the kofta balls which were crispy outside and soft and delicious on the inside.
If it were just the custard, the dessert could be dismissed but the halava was luscious. It is difficult to desccribe the texture, but it is a bit cakey. When I had it it was still pipping hot. As for the drink, it is basically the cordial that anyone who went to school camp or school care had - very much dismissable.

Sometimes going the extra mile for a meal in the Central Business District will uncover something different and/or unexpected. Govinda's does that by being quietly reclusive (they are owned by Hare Krishnas). It promises nothing but a good feed and it absolutely delivers on that front. Even some of the most ardent carnivores might find something to like about this place, and they should. Cheap, affordable and appealing I will return.
DianaW
Diana. This is my second visit here, both times the food was only just warm. Other than that the food is tasty & simple fare in a simple setting & ultra cheap. The halva pudding is very good too.
Jumbalaya99
You have to 'get' Govinda's to like Govinda's. Govinda's to begin with, isn't a Vegan restaurant. If you are not sure, Govinda's is run by Hare Krishnas. Main tenet of their belief is in the cow and thus use a lot of ghee in their dishes. So don't expect true Vegan food. (Technically they are Lacto-Vegetarians).

To be honest, their food is ok. It depends on where you go. Govindas at the Gold Coast is pretty good and I always check them out when down there. However the city branch don't always stick to serving curries. They serve all sorts of laco-vegetarian meals and go along with a weekly menu buffet style menu. So one day they may do curries, next day Mexican inspired dishes and so on.

They are a buffet because their religion encourages them to feed people... so don't come here if you are expecting restaurant style service! It's a buffet run by Hare Krishna's, so expect to queue, order, find a seat and then be bombarded with Hare Krishna propoganda. If you like that, cool. If you are off put with that, don't go.

Also... the food is ok. Not my thing. It's not very spicy and flavoursome because their religion tells them not to use garlic and onion in dishes. I always get the asofoetida after taste (garlic substitute herb) in my mouth after going there and I don't really like that taste.

All in all, it's ok. I wouldn't rate it personally. There's a far better Vegetarian curry place only over the road in the Myer Centre (VegieRama... they are the bomb!)

Just here now for dinner had the feast great value for money food was nice large serves dessert a flop I would eat here again nothing fancy but a great belly filler

A big pile of SLOP!!. I went to the one in West End and Brisbane. The Brisbane one was sooo average, I felt like it was lunchtime at an American cafateria!! We got a plate where they sloped your salad, some other things and more slop onto. the drink we got was cordial, and the dessert was not to bad but still not up to standard for a Brisbane restaurant. I would not eat there again!!!! I seriously would not waste my money again!!!! Terrible food, service and just everything really!!!

-----23 Jan, 2012-----

Gross!. I have never tried vegan food so I was excited. Turns out its gross and dry and flavourless!! hmm and expensive. Will not be going there again. Should have got a pizza instead!!
Kym Easten
Awful food, tacky setting, feels like I imagine eating at a soup kitchen would be like.
Deano's Digest
Go to Vindas. Still cheap, still tasty, and still the go to place for feel-good vegetarian. It scares me to think how much Halva I could eat if given the chance. Now offering vego cooking classes on the cheap!
Nath
Really great!. Amazing food and friendly people. Great vegetarian restaurant! I've been going here once a week!
Satiety Society
Awesome Indian vegetarian. Big serves and cheap prices. I've been going here for years and keep going back because it is such good value and I love the friendly service.
Badi
Pleasantly surprised. As a carnivore, I must say that I was happy to be proven wrong and felt very satisfied after my meal. It was delicious, varied and substantial. All you can eat never hurts as well
The Food Oracle
Awesome vegetarian. Really delicious food. We had the 'feast' and it was brilliant. I love the kofta balls... And the mango halva dessert was so so yummy!
Even my meat loving boyfriend was thoroughly impressed. I did rave on about our dinner for a bit, it was just fantastic and such amazing value!
D-ka
A victim of great reviews. Maybe it's the over-hype or the lack of exciting vegetarian options in Brisbane, but I couldn't help but be rather underwhelmed. i got the 12 dollar lunch special and most of their dishes were far too watery and just resulted in a plate of watery mush. i think any random vegetarian dish at an indian restaurant would be a safer bet.

the individual items such as the quiche or fillo pastry looked quite tasty--if i ended up back there, would have to give them a go.
.iHo
... S O ... S T U F F E D .... I just ate two platefuls of the 'feast' selection and then a bowl of custard n halva! My only real complaint about Govinda's is that they make it far too easy for me to gorge myself .. .. . .. Lol.

Overeating jokes aside, I like the bustle and the buzzing atmosphere of this popular lunchtime vegetarian eatery. The mood of the staff has definitely improved over time and today I found the food was a little less mushy than usual.
Bettie N. Fever
Iv been eating here for years I love it! It's cheap, delicious with wonderful staff they even offer cooking classes on Sundays.
Johnson Shea
The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but their food will have even a carnivore going back for more.
Amira Amanda H Nazer
Great vegetarian restaurant with budget prices..what more can I say!
Adam
Good value, unique pure veg.. Although the food isn't amazing, it's a good fun cheap lunch.
Lookabookworm
Awesome! Now one of favourite eateries! Great value, delicious (never thought goin vego could taste so good!) and healthy! Service was superb and friendly. 9/10 :)

It's ok. You would miss or maybe never found this restaurant because their signboard is not so eye appeal and the door and stairs look like leading to some "bad" place. But when I entered their place, I found there are so many guests and the decoration looks artistic. We chose buffet which cost 10$ (student 9$) so can try about 6 or 7 things excluding those individual stuff. Food is OK and I like their"Savoury vegetable puffs" and ginger and mint lemonade. They didn't give us soup and we don't like that Halavah (semolina fruit pudding) with custard. And the sad part of the story is I found a hair in my curry : (
Jazc
Cheap, tasty, healthy. Happy days.
The Food Extinguisher
Surprisingly, this suspicious looking Hare Krishna restaurant is home to one of the best Kofta Balls in Brisbane. Not to mention you can get an ALL YOU CAN EAT vegetarian feast for only $12.90 (adults) or $10 (students).
Andrew
In terms of ‘hole in the wall’ venues Govindas is archetypal. The entrance to Govindas is quite literally a hole in the wall. I mean, doors tend to be holes in walls, so technically any entrance to any venue is a hole in the wall (unless of course you’re facing a ‘platform nine and three quarters’ situation) however Govindas is, both figuratively and literally, a ‘hole in the wall’ venue. If you imagine a spectrum of fast food, Govindas would fall on one end and McDonalds would fall on the other. They are in binary opposition* in respect to atmosphere, location, decor, clientele, and meatyness. The entrance to Govindas is a small doorway with a sometimes illuminated “Govinda’s Vegetarian Restaurant” sign. No luck with the illumination today. I guess for some people visiting a dedicated vegetarian restaurant requires the same level of discreteness as entering a strip club or adult shop (OH, you’re a vegetarian *raised eyebrows*) because the sim

...I greatly enjoyed a huge plate of “chips” (chunky french fries, fried to order) with homemade tomato sauce. This doesn’t sound like a very grown up order but I was jet lagged and chips are a rare treat for me given that they tend to be cooked in the same oil as fish and hot dogs in Australia and New Zealand.

Before entering Elizabeth Arcade across from Brisbane’s Myer Centre, there’s a slim flight of stairs coloured by posters for Yoga classes. Through the glass doors, in a large dining room, is Govinda’s Pure Vegetarian Restaurant. Tonight Dad and I opted for the Dinner Feast which included Lentil Curry, Rice, Vegetable and Chickpea Korma, Kofta Balls with Homemade Tomato sauce, Green Salad, a Halava Pudding with Custard to finish and a Lemon, Ginger, Mint Drink to cleanse the palate. The way this feast works, is that it’s an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, so seconds, thirds..and fourths are welcome. :D There were plenty of other meals available – Lasagne, Quiche, Spinach and Feta Filo, Vegan Desserts… I was impressed with the Vegetable and Chickpea Korma – a rich, creamy, nutty flavour with hearty vegetables and chickpeas. The salad was light and refreshing with a tangy creamy sauce. The Kofta Balls weren’t as nice as Cardamom Pod’s and the sauce a bit thin.
Joe
...it is a all you can eat vegetarian buffet although I couldn't see any description of that sort on the menu board.
