Review Colle Rosso Ristorante Italiano - Brisbane

Really yum Italian restaurant in Red Hill! The food is really good and it has an affordable yet interesting wine list, focusing on Italian wine. I've been coming here for years as it is a family favourite, and will continue into the future. Five stars from me.

Vibe The place has been tastefully decorated in a distinctive bright red colour pattern. There are timber floors, plastic chairs with wooden tables, bright lighting and interesting pics and artefacts on the wall. The Italian national colours are painted onto the front window, just in case you forgot that this was an Italian joint! On the Sunday night that we dined, there was a decent turnout which gave it an energetic and lively buzz, but with a casual and relaxed atmosphere. Acoustics were fine and we were easily able to converse, but with all that glass, wood, steel and plastic, and no noise absorbers, it could get noisy. The aircon was on, making the temp inside nice and cool. Food We started with a bottle of Peroni Original ($9) and a Spritzer ($14), and followed that with a bruschetta entrée ($16) and two mains: a ravioli with spinach and feta ($29) and a pizza Capriccioso with extra onion ($26). The bruschetta comprised two small pieces of toast with melted cheese and dried spinach atop each piece. Yes, it was tasty and the perfect way to whet our appetites before the main event, but 16 pesos was a bit over the top. The ravioli dish was beautifully prepared and looked like a work of art, with swirling colours of grey, black and white. It was beautifully presented to the table on a stylish plate, and it tasted just as it looked, which was wonderful. Only problem though was that it was really just a few mouthfuls, and not worth the hefty price tag of $29. Lastly, the pizza, which was the best dish of the night. It was a decent size with a thin crispy base and topped with lashings of creamy mozzarella cheese, fresh artichokes, peppers, caramelised onions and olives. Service Lisa, the owner or manager is a friendly hostess who makes her guests feel welcome. She works super hard and is clearly an experienced and professional restaurateur. Besides Lisa, there were two other staff on duty serving tables, a lady and a young man, both neatly attired, polite, attentive. Despite that though I did find the service to be a tad slow. Our drinks and the entrée came out fairly quickly, but after that we waited about 25 minutes for the mains to arrive. I noticed other tables also waiting awhile for meals to arrive. Lisa did apologise to us for the delay, which I felt was a nice touch. Toilets Toilets are down a steep flight of stairs just next to the entrance. They’re clean and well provisioned, with ample male and female cubicles. Parking There are a few spots available directly outside, but if you drive down Storie Street, behind the restaurant, you will find a little car park which offers unlimited free parking after 6pm for C.R. patrons. Value for Money This is where things get a bit tricky. Our bill came to a rather excessive 94 pesos for two drinks, a starter and two mains. But as we came armed with a $50 voucher from TheFork, that brought it back to 44, but this is still an expensive place. $16 for example, for two pieces of bruschetta bread with melted cheese, that’s $8 for a piece of bread. 29 pesos for a pasta dish which was just a few mouthfuls. Despite the high quality of the food, this is expensive for the average consumer and does not represent solid value for money. Summary I have mixed feelings about C.R., having been twice now. The ambience is relaxed, casual and laid back and I love the colourful, warm and homely interior design. The food quality is excellent but, apart from the pizzas, portion sizes are small. Lisa is a warm and polite hostess, but on a busy night, they seem to struggle, and service can be a tad slow. There are clean toilets and ample parking either in the street outside or in the little car park behind the venue on Storie Street.

Service was polite and friendly. Pizza was underwhelming. The boxes were too small so it was partially folded over. The Margherita pizza was under salted and the base was a smidge burnt. The Calabrese pizza was better but the tomato sauce was a tad sour and not as sweet like other great pizzas I’ve tried. Dominos makes better tasting pizzas sadly. Also they said it would be a 30 minute wait but when I arrived at 30 minutes they told me the pizza was just about to be put into the oven. The place wasn’t super busy so I feel like the 15 minute delay could have been avoided. Probably won’t go again.

Additional charges and luke warm food. What italian restaurant charges extra, for parmesan cheese? And not even real cheese - it was the powdered stuff you buy in a canister off the shelf. And charging for a container to take leftover dessert home? Wow. My meal was delivered, and I asked for parmesan cheese. The waitress took the meal back to the kitchen, then delivered it again to me, saying the cheese will be out soon. So my meal had done miles around the restaurant before finally coming back to me, and it was only luke warm. When I asked a staff member if it could be heated in some way, she picked up the plate and explained the bottom was warm. Really? That's great, but the food isn't. So off my meal went again, to return in not a great state. On the positive, the wine was nice and our young waitress was friendly. Our friend who had recommended this place, kept apologising. It wasn't like this last time, she said. First and final visit.

We went here last night and to say the least it was awful it took and hour and 15 minutes to get our mains and what a disappointment - bland, tasteless and way over priced. We ordered the house wine at a price of $29 which tasted like it was watered down. Our first meal came out cold and had a skin over the top obviously had been sitting under the heat light for some time. Would never go back not worth the time and the money.

Great Italian restaurant. Casual vibe, where we felt welcomed from the first minute. We had a great surprise, one of the best food we ever found in Brisbane, easily can become our new fave place:) We recommend every single dish we tried, starter, main, dessert and drink. Prices are good. Great atmosphere and amazing service. Did really enjoyed our night and would def come back.

We had the most wonderful evening at Colle Rosso thanks to the warm hospitality and divine food. The quality of the meals was outstanding, especially the gnocchi, which you have to try! Also, great recommendation on the Shiraz-Grenache. Thanks for a lovely evening.

Gelato is amazing and I love how they do their pizza based. Friendly service, always live going just before sunset and watching the skies change colour

Appreciated such an exceptional service-friendly, helpful and efficient. The food were all beautifully served, and overall was tasty. However, the arancini was a little too dry and insufficient sauce, pizza base was a little too thin, and the gnocchi was a little too rich that we couldn’t finish it. We did enjoy our night though.

Pizza plus pasta plus pannacotta = perfectly proportioned Italian meal? That’s what we went with on this visit to Colle Rosso 😋
.
Our order:
* malloreddus al Ragu di Manzo, $28 - Sardinian short pasta with beef ragout and truffle in a cherry tomato sauce
* porchetta pizza, $24 - mozzarella, pork belly, caramelised onions, shaved parmesan, truffle oil
* pannacotta alla Fragola, $15 - homemade strawberry pannacotta with chocolate sauce and strawberry pearls

I enjoyed every mouthful of every dish - even the chocolate sauce (not normally too keen on chocolatey stuff)! I have no hesitation in recommending this place for some quality Italian food. It’s not the most convenient place for me to dine at due to the location (relative to where I live) and dinner-only hours, but worth making the effort once in a while, especially when you can get 50% off thanks to The Fork Festival. The festival originally ended 9th Feb, but has now been extended until Sat 29 Feb - get booking!

We had a pleasant evening here on a quiet Sun night in November.

The place was about half full when we arrived at 7pm. There were only two staff members on duty, so it took awhile to catch their attention for our orders to be taken But once that was accomplished, things flowed smoothly. The dishes came out quickly and in the correct order, with no long waiting between courses. The maitre d and her assistant were efficient, polite and helpful.

We shared a selection of dishes between five of us, including salads, pizzas, arancini balls, gnocchi and calamari. Everything was fresh and tasty and served in generous portions. The food was prepared to a high standard, and nicely served on stylish white crockery. Everyone enjoyed their meals.

After our $50 loyalty discount from the newly rebranded “TheFork” booking site, we paid a modest $121, and that included two large bottles of sparkling mineral water. Excellent value for money in these desperate economic times. And in a nice touch to end the evening, after we’d paid our bill, an offer was appended to the bottom of our receipt, to dine there again within two months and receive a 20% discount. This is the first time that I’ve seen such an offer, so congrats to Colle Rosso on this world first! If we lived in Bris, we would have taken it up, but sadly we do not, although we passed it onto friends who do live there, and I’m sure that they will use it.

The only downside to all this positivity was the rather noisy nature of the venue. There are no carpets or noise absorbers, the furniture is wooden, and there’s plenty of glass, making for a loud environment, even when only half full. I should say, though, that as the evening wore on, and the place emptied out, it became quieter and more relaxed.

Toilets are down a flight of stairs just to the side of the entrance, but there’s no signage from within the restaurant to tell you where they are. There are separate male and female facilities and they’re reasonably clean and well stocked, although the 1980s style hand dryer is in need of an upgrade or should be replaced with paper towels.

As we were visiting from Syd, we took an uber from our hotel in Felix Street in the city, which cost just under $10 each way, but it seemed to me like a quiet part of town, where finding a parking wouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Overall, an excellent, well run restaurant with top quality food, fast and friendly service and clean toilets. The noise levels though could be a problem.

A nice place to dine in, however wait times are a tad long. Also found that the ravioli was a bit rich- the sauce just tasted like melted butter.

Have not been back over three years so took the advantage of the Fork’s deal of 50% off food bill to have dinner in a group of three last night. Needless to say, menu has been changed slightly since my last time but we can still remember its signature half metre pizza broad so ordered the Alla Pala with Salmone Affumicato & Prochetta with additional paste dish of Spahatti ai Frutti di Mare. It took reasonable time frame to have the first dish of pasta on the table. It presented very well with plenty mussel surround the main stacks of spaghetti. Taste was very good (thanks for the lobster bisque) with generous portions of prawns and squids. Next came the half metre broad, the two different fillings of pizzas in front of us was spectacular. Only these dishes fed us with full stomach and the total bill was only $44.00, which was a bargain. 

Nov 15, 2015 Rating 4/5
Had a $50 voucher from DMMI and tried to explore this award-winning Italian restaurant. After we parked our car in the undercover car park and walked up to the entrance, the little waiting area for Take-Away orders attracted my gaze. On the other hand, the features of red color set-up also gave me an exciting feeling for this dinner. In addition, the warm welcoming greetings from all the wait-staff started this nice dining experience. We ordered their famous Calamari Fritti and Seared Scallops for entrees. The culinary skill on deep-frying was so good that there was not even one drop of oil left on the paper which holding all the calamari in the basket. The crispy Prosciutto perfectly acted as the crunchy element for scallop dish. Well done. The main that we ordered were the half meter pizza ( Alla Pala) with two flavour and the Linguini with Moreton Bay Bug. Doubtless, the pizza was good with thin base, however, the linguini beat the renowned pizza as the hero of the day. The whole dish brought me an unforgettable memory of what a fabulous linguini dish should be. Proteins were generous, lobster bisque formed the nice sweet base of seafood stock and the al dente linguini dish was well balanced with touch of garlic and chili. "Thank you, chefs", I highly recommend this restaurant and definitely return for the risotto, pork belly and wagyu oxtail.

Bland, tasteless food at $25+ a meal. So very disappointing. However, what was even more disappointing and appauling was the service. I was so dissatisfied with my rubbery prawns and completely tasteless meal that I told our waitress it was not very nice when she asked...her response..."Everyone else likes it." I asked for some cheese to give it some flavour. She never bothered to come back to check how I found the meal with some cheese. I knew then it was pointless to ask for another meal so I bathed my pasta in my husband's leftover pasta sauce which was slightly less bland and awful, but those prawns were inedible. When we went to pay with a voucher we were told we couldn't use it because we didn't give 24 hours notice! Nowhere is this written on the voucher...lots of discussion and we were able to use our voucher. Poor excuse for a restaurant and as for the waitress who served us...my god learn some customer service skills!

Amazing authentic and fresh. The food was fantastic and the service fabulous. Suggestions on the menu were spot on and can highly recommend the Fregola with Moreton Bay bugs.
This night was to celebrate our Silver wedding anniversary and we couldn't have chosen a better venue.

Friendly staff. However 75 minutes for brushetta to come to the table. Seafood pasta with ONE prawn and little else. Apparently the pizza was good. House wine very acceptable. My advice to management....stop carrying on about how busy you are....either get more staff or take fewer bookings.

Great food, and friendly service even though the restaurant was under the pump. However my night was tainted when I was told I wasn't allowed to take my leftover meal as takeaway because I have booked via a Dimmi promotion. I have to say I was taken aback; I did not zealously over order, I had half my pizza left and up until that point, I had every intention of coming back as a full paying customer. The Dimmi promotions are a great way to attract business, and it gives patrons the opportunity to try neighbourhood restaurants at an attractive price. However I don't like the idea of alternative treatment just because a booking was made via promotion. Safe to say my experience was marred and I'm not sure if I'll be back.

We had a booking and arrived to an almost full house on a Saturday night. Shown to our table with menus already there with the wine list and offered tap or sparkling water. We ordered drinks - proseco, Aperol Spritz, a bottle of Shiraz and some soft drinks. All arrived quickly and then we started perusing the food options.
We chose to share the focaccia and calamari. The calamari was lovely in a light crispy batter with lime and aoli on the side. The focaccia- which I didn't have- was apparently hard and my fellow diners suspect had been reheated.
Next came the mains and another round of drinks. Two ordered gnocchi, fettuccini with beef cheek , rigatoni with beef, I chose linguine marinara and the final main was mussels in delicious broth. Also a rocket, pear and walnut salad.
So my marinara and the mussels and salad were all amazing!!!
I didn't try the other meals as I don't eat meat but they were all apparently disappointing. The gnocchi was overpowered by the sauce and neither of the diners who ordered it ate even half. The fettuccine was overcooked according to she who chose it. The rigatoni was also overcooked.
So they complained about their meals and the waitress gave us the focaccia for free.
It was a nice gesture.
Very busy with large family groups last night so don't go on a weekend if you're planning a romantic dinner!

After not being here for almost 2 years, I noticed the new "all you can eat pasta and pizza" nights and decided to give it another shot, also bringing my partner and two mates with us. The waitstaff remembered my partner and I from all those years ago and treated us very well. The food was beautiful, just like the very first time we went there! Would definitely recommend this place now and we will be going back!!

We won't ever go here again. Tasteless food - chicken, squid and linguine marinara (4 tiny prawns, 4 empty vongole shells and some strips of calamari in a tasteless watery sauce). The house wine was terrible. The waitress did warn us it was "rustic" I think it was watered down cask wine. Terrible experience. Cafe Marinara here we come!

Overrated and over-priced. Service was also not good at all. A shame because I was looking forward to this restaurant. I would not eat here again

Lovely restaurant. My boyfriend and I dined here on a rainy Monday night, and it was very quiet, however the food was excellent. We had viewed the menu on Zomato and chosen our meals before arriving, however the menu had changed slightly. While I was disappointed that I couldn't choose the risotto, I was not disappointed with my selection. I had a seafood pasta similar to the menu on here, and he had a pork belly dish, which was delicious. We started with the croquettes, which were crunchy and creamy, just as they should be. The wait staff were absolutely lovely. We will definitely return to try the pizzas and the other menu items.

I had takeaway pasta and a garlic bread pizza tonight. After a really long day at work, I was so thoroughly disappointed at the value for money here, I couldn't stay quiet. $26 for 5 pieces of Ravioli, the container wasn't even half full. The flavour was good, but I will never spend my money here again, it was such a waste. I'm very dissatisfied.
Chris Roling
For a place that seems to be known for having the best pizzas in Brisbane, our experience tonight was disappointing to say the least. We ordered the Pescatora which according to the menu has an array of seafood on it...we got our pizza home only to find a total of three prawns, 5 cubes of what I assumed was scallop (not even a whole one) and more clam shells than clams and a few strands of calamari. If I had paid the cheap takeaway price of $5.95 I'd totally understand...but for $27, that's appalling.
Lauren
The pizzas at Colle Rosso are THE BEST i've had in Brisbane. The base is the best part as they taste just like the ones I have eaten in Italy. But don't just go for the pizza. The other main dishes are delicious too!

The staff are friendly and provide good service. We love getting takeaway from here as well as dining in.

Warm cosy atmosphere. The staff were great, friendly, helpful, attentive but not intrusive. The food was lovely - everything was hand made by someone who takes pride in their efforts. Entrees were a nice intro, but the meal kept getting better. For mains, I had a perfect pizza and my partner had a delicious traditional lasagne that seemed to be cooked individually. Dessert was all hand made quality. I felt very full and satisfied after my 3 courses and coffee. As someone familiar with the U.S. tipping system, I was glad to be offered a choice to tip while paying with a card. And of course, I had to leave a tip because I was very happy after so much good food.
If I had to pick a fault, it was a bit noisy after more people came in and filled up the tables. But hardly a deal breaker. The food and service far outweigh any trivial issues like noisiness.

Colle Rosso, from where it is located, would be what you would expect it to be plus something that was unexpected. A "small" restaurant along a busy main street, only slightly out of the CBD would have you thinking: upper class, a bit cramped, tiny - instead it is casual fare, really spacious (goes deep from the curb) and is really big. This is among the magnus opus of eating in Brisbane, and it is easy to see why. Everything about it is really gorgeous and it exudes a charm that alone can put it on the "must do" list.

The website Dimmi was doing the usual rounds of offering members 50% off at a selected restaurant, booking that week for a certain period at particular times. Jumping on board at the opportunity, that is what I did for me and my dining buddy for one night, and off the two of us were to get there.

The aesthetics of the restaurant tow a line somewhere in between fancy and casual. It errs more towards the latter than the former, but there are good touches to keep up the appearance to this place which I really admire. However, don't get fooled - they want you to bring the family here by using the right aesthetic. All around the restaurant, painted into the walls and designed on the curtains is the colour red. Look around and within the perimeter and it is anything but boring - pictures of Italy, a TV playing images of Italy, hanging lamps akin to chandeliers (with dim lighting) and a big bar in the middle. Within the air, all it truly wants you to do is eat well and enjoy. From the outside, it did not look big but walking in is a surprise.

The service was top notch. The waitstaff were very attentive. With precision, each aspect of the meal service was done well: asking what water is wanted (still, sparkling, tap) upon us seating, describing the specials of the night, leaving enough time to decide what to order and having a good knowledge of the menu. Adding onto that, when they were doing rounds of the restaurant to check of the customers, they made sure to see that everything was in order and that people were enjoying their meal - spoiler alert: I was certainly doing so myself. When they were doing rounds of the restaurant, all the aspects such as filling up water glasses and clearing dishes were being met. For anyone wanting to meet a good standard of service in starting up a restaurant, this is exactly how it should be done. All with a pleasant smile, which there was plenty of.

There is quite a bit to be had on the menu, and it encompasses a good range of examples of what Italian cuisine has to offer - all made from traditional recipes coming from the homeland. Unlike what many Italian restaurants do, this one is not top heavy with pizza and pasta options; they are still there but it is combined with plenty more choices. Sharing is something that must be really encouraged here, as roughly the first quarter of the menu is dedicated to breads and various entrees including a meat and cheese board, and several kinds of seafood.

Then there is the pizza menu, which is really traditional. Much like the pizza done in Italy, they focus on a thin crust and only have a few items at a time on a single pizza making sure that the items actually go together well. There are two sections, separating them into being paired with red or white wine. Don't go expecting any of the usual choices, and prepare to be surprised.

Following up on that, the pastas and main dishes are grouped in together. Much like the pizza menu, prepare for some less usual selections - though it does have the expected lasagne and a type of spaghetti bologenese (as of writing). Seafood pops up a fair bit again, with a fish of the day and there is a risotto on the menu. Additionally, like most restaurants the main dishes are chosen carefully making sure each kind of meat craving can be met including game. Not to mention the usual wild card of the night's specials. Complimenting that, a few salads and sides can be added on, and it all ends off with a modest dessert menu that manages until the end to be full of surprises.

Then I have not talked about the drinks menu. Expect all the usual choices: wines, beers, ciders, soft drinks, and of course - my favourite - coffee. Water comes in three different varieties as well, offered first hand. Already I am having desires of going back and I have not gotten around to describing the experience yet. It is that good.

Starting off the meal, the usual rounds of ordering drinks was done. Being one to default to coffee, I naturally went with the default coffee: a doppio. The coffee comes from Segafreddo, which was one of my favourite coffees a few years back when I really started to drink it; other ones have taken precedent, which makes sense as it is mid-carder at best for the most part.

To begin with, it couldn't be anything but to try one of their pizzas. These are the forebearers of L'Angolo in Ascot, and the pizzas have gotten rave reviews along with plenty of awards. Again, it is pizza unlike anything else in town: organic flour, rested over 24 hours and done fresh daily. Most of them did look good, however since it was a rare treat for my dining buddy at the time, it was ripe to go full bore at it. Only one made sense: the Pizza Award. This is like the best kind of calzone you will ever have. It is made for sharing, and they take a double quantity of their pizza dough, and then fill it with sauteed spinach, pork and fennel sausage, sliced potato and shaved Reggiano cheese. This is then covered over and topped with an S.Marzano tomato pizza sauce and smoked Provola cheese.

To say it tasted good is not doing it justice. I found the pizza, the first time I tried it at the aforementioned offshoot restaurant, to be unlike anything else to be found in town. You'd have to get a plane ticket to find something better than this. Each pizza is brought out with an elevated wire stand and placed on top of it. Again, it comes down to a good dough - it was soft, really light and had that taste that is only found here. The ingredients inside were delicious, and had a good combination of more subtle flavours. The pork sausage was done from a good part of the meat, while the spinach had just the right amount of cooking time to it - it had form, there was flavour seeping out of it, and it was far from getting soggy - and the potatoes were soft and delicious. Add on a gooey cheese, and fold over there is an irresistable inside. On top, they just make it better with ripe, sweet tomato and another layer of stronger flavour cheese to spread on top. Not to mention, the serving size is quite big. Like traditional pizza from Italy as well, it does not come pre-cut.

Following it up, it was time for the main dishes. Knowing this duo, swapping items between plates was definitely done and gotten out of the way quickly. Whether or not you ordered something beforehand, it is likely that the meal ordered as the main course is going to at least be substantial; the servings are generous, and reminiscent of more casual fare.

My dining buddy went for the gnocchi dish: Gnocchi di Zucca alla Norcina. This consisted of gnocchi, based of off pumpkin and homemade, mixed with a "Norcina" sauce. This sauce was made from wild mushroom, black truffle, peccorino and Romano cheeses, and cream. It is every bit as moreish as it sounds. The gnocchi was at just the right texture, soft enough to be chewed, solid enough to hold form and had a slightly sweet flavour due to the pumpkin. The sauce was thick and rich, with a good strong bite from the peccorino cheese - one variety I have always taken a liking to - and some more subtle flavours from the truffles, and the mushrooms were simply brilliant.

As for me, I went the whole hog and got Coda alla Vaccinara. When placing this order, the waitress was impressed and mentioned "ah, a traditional Italian dish - good choice". If that is not something optimistic, I will have to seek further afar what is. This is an authentic Roman recipe, where Wagyu oxtail is slow-cooked until tender and served with a vegetable ragout, red wine and pine nuts, and a side of ovenbaked polenta. In one single word, what I have to say is "amazing". The size of the serving of meat was massive, and the meat was so tender, so moreish and tasted like a moderately gamey version of beef - dark, with a more subdued aroma. Toasted pine nuts added their usual unique flair to the dish, and the rich, sweet tomato ragout complimented the cut really well. However, as per usual what really drew the attention was the chosen side - the baked polenta. It was like a cake next to it, and breaking it up released buttery goodness that soaked up the ragout readily. Ordering anything else, I would have had order envy like never before - especially with something so game and exotic available right there.

Both stomachs were really full after all that, however from starting the meal I got the vibe from my dining buddy to try the "Choc-shot" as it was called on the menu. Even so, he was a bit surprised but I see a food dare as a food dare. Thus, I ordered one of these. Think of a shot glass sized Italian hot chocolate - that is what the choc shot is. Normally it comes with a liqueur, but I got in the virgin version. This was thick, hot, dark and a good way to finish off. It came with not one biscotti, but four different varieties. Each one was tasty, simple and had a good buttery flavour underneath the soft, vanilla texture. It was a good way to finish off such a great meal.

There is a really good reason for why Colle Rosso has such the reputation that it has, and that extends beyond the quality of the food - which was essentially flawless. It is also to do with the degree of service, and the wonderful aesthetics. I have been looking forward to trying this place for ages, particularly when a booking beforehand had to be cancelled because of more pressing matters. Now finally, I get to see what it is like, and this is it in a nutshell: decent Italian food is still quite enjoyable and filling. But when you stumble upon a gem such as this, you really notice it and it makes a great impression - the precedent has been set high, and Colle Rosso is soaring high above it.

Colle Rosso, which is Italian for Red Hill, ticks all my boxes. Well priced, flavoursome, authentic Italian food, made and served with love. This traditional family trattoria which opened late last year, is owned and operated by two couples - David and Laura (both from Rome) and Marco (from Sardinia) and Lisa (a Brisbane local of Italian heritage), who together have more than 30 years of experience in hospitality.

Our new favourite and arguably the best pizzas in Brisbane! Prices are reasonable and service is great. An authentic, quality dining experience. We've been 3 times in the last 2 months and will definitely be back!
Becandfood
Nothing bad, nothing amazing. Overall, it was a good experience but there's nothing I can really rave on about. All guests enjoyed their meal. We went there on a 50% special, so I'm not sure I would go back when I have to pay full price. It seems just a little bit expensive for what it's worth. In saying that though, the pear tart was amazing! Avoid, the tiramisu as it wasn't really a tiramisu. The staff were extremely lovely and accommodating.

Excellent food and service. I wrote a review of our experience at this restaurant on Dimmi (18/2/15) outlining the menu and service. Wont repeat it here except to say the food is very authentic Italian and was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We will be back!
Just wish some of these licenced restaurants would allow BYO wine. Happy to pay a reasonable corkage and would return more often.

A great night at Colle Rosso last night.. Was greeted at the door by Laura who I recognised from an article in Eat, Drink and be Kerrie . We were shown to our table and Laura told us about the specials for the day . We selected and shared the Pizza Special of the day that had thin slices of oregano flavoured potato . This was delicious and large. For our main , we both selected Rissotto Seafood . This was so tasty and perectly cooked to our liking - creamy and not over or under cooked.
To sum up, Service , food quality and generous servings could not be bettered. Will definitely return as the menu had some interesting selections. Thanks Colle Rosso

I've walked past so many times and never gone in...I didn't know what I was missing! Lovely staff, excellent antipasti and very good linguini marinara! I'll be back to try the pizza!

Favourite condiment? Salt!. I have tried to "like" this restaurant, and I will say the takeaway pizzas are ok. However, the level of salt in the food, particularly the rocket, pear and Parmesan salad, is totally ridiculous, and way outside the boundaries of a healthy amount, or a contribution to flavour. I'll be awake all night reaching for the water.

We'll be back. We had dinner last night (Friday). Quiet when we arrived at 6:15, packed when we left 2 hours later. We had 3 mains and 3 deserts. The mains were delicious. Generous sizes and so much to chose from. Between us we had the free range pork which was tender and well spiced, the ravioli (the previous raves are justified, and the saltimbocco which also sweet and tender. We then did a relay of deserts - tiramisu, the special and the donuts. Again all fantastic. We left feeling very full of good food. Nice

Fantastic food. We go here all the time, the staff are young and enthusiastic and the food is very good to. Prices are very reasonable. Try there Bruschetta or the Calamari, you will love it.
Hugo

Pretentious. Meals are generally very expensive for what you get in return... But the worst complaints is that the staff wax-on - with a form of fake 'Continental charm'... the essence being non-genuine and over-the-top...

Then there is the level of noise in the restaurant... If you're a couple - looking for a relaxed and cosy experience #WARNING# forget it!

The proprietors cynically have about 3 "tables for two' - to capture the odd random couple-victim whom may happen to wander in... but the heart and thrust of the place (its "business model") is to cater for larger and sometimes rowdy tables of eaters AND drinkers - whom shout out each comment / reply louder than the previous - in order just to be heard and understood (over the din).

All that verbosity and racket reverberating off those faux nuvo advanti walls; decor; and shinny concrete floor - churns the stomach; and will well ruin your evening...

As we live locally to this restaurant - we have been back 4 times and additionally done takeaway twice.

However after the last dine-in experience we promised ourselves we would never return! They have only received our repeat business by default - as the place is on our way home, (not because of great dining experiences...).

Overpriced slop - we ordered some take away from Colle Rosso. For $50 we got a lasagne so sloppy it might have actually been lasagne-soup, and a gluten-free spaghetti that looked and tasted like the colour grey. The lasagne was also tiny, probably about entrée size. Additionally, they said it would be ready in 35 minutes, but it actually took them 50 minutes, and the lasagne was lukewarm.
On a positive note - the waitstaff were polite and it looked nice. But most likely won't go back.

Our local!. We are regulars at this authentic Italian restaurant. The service is great and the food is even better. What more could you want! Tracy

Fantastic! So happy to have a great Italian local, the couples who run/own it are fantastic, authentic Italian, and its somewhere we keep coming back to! Their pastas are great but their pizza dough is fantastic-light crispy and salty-try the Tartufina pizza, yum yum! When I found out I was pregnant I wrapped up my pregnancy test an asked the girls to give it to my husband after dessert as a 'lucky door prize'-they happily obliged and the look on his face when he unwrapped it was priceless :)

Delizioso!! Highly recommended!. I have just returned from a beautiful evening spent at Colle Rosso spent with my Mum. Upon leaving, we both whole-heartedly agreed with each other that Colle Rosso is a very special restaurant. The staff were so friendly, warm and attentive. And I haven't even mentioned the food yet! I had the 'Zuppa di Pesce e Crostacei' (a sort of Italian seafood broth) that was full of fresh scallops, prawns, calamari, barramundi and more. My Mum had a very generous serve of Moreton Bay Bug gnocchi. Both of our plates were scraped clean. And somehow, I managed to follow this up by polishing off a nutella tiramisu all by myself. Over-indulgent? Yes. Worth it? Heck yes.

Over serviced and wait staff upsell, upsell, upsell!!. The food and atmosphere is lovely, however it was uncomfortable as the waiters tend to try and up sell you at every turn. If we want extra entrees, salads, desserts or drinks we will order them! Its enough to put a dampner on the dining experience and leaves you feeling a little 'over' serviced. The food is quite nice though.

New Italian Fav. It was a Thursday night and my partner and I decided to visit Colle Rosso as it was recommended to him by a colleague. Even though when we arrived it was quite busy, we were greeted with a big smile and taken straight to our table, nice start. The drinks arrived promptly then we asked for some help to decide what to eat as there is so much to choose from! We started with the bruschetta porcellina (it was suggested as it has just been put on the menu) and the calamari. So fresh and delish couldn't wait for the mains. I had the zuppa di pesce, great presentation and packed with flavour and my partner the pizza rucola, the best base and perfect amount of topping. Feeling quite full but I had to try the tiramisu with Nutella, what a winner! Thanks Colle Rosso for a great night out, we will be back!

Avoid the GF. It's great that they offer Gluten Free pizzas but unfortunately it was the worst gluten free meal I've ever had anywhere. The base was actually inedible and tasteless. I nearly broke a tooth.

Please note that my expectations are reasonable, I understand that you can never get gluten free tasting as good as the real thing, but this was beyond a joke.

Everyone else enjoyed their pizzas with gluten though.

Average. Although I've only been once, I can say the food was OK but nothing to write home about (to Italy). For the price I expected a better product. Friendly service though.

Fantastic local find. What a delicious meal we had last night at the vibrant, welcoming Colle Rosso. We have been a little late in discovering the wonders at Colle Rosso; turns out our neighborhood hasn't, the place was PACKED! Great to see a mix of families, couples and groups there, so definitely appeals to everyone. The menu was fantastic, genuinely difficult to choose just one dish per course. The service was brilliant despite bring so busy and we loved the Italian wines on offer to compliment the different dishes. Tony indulged in the mussels entree and swordfish spaghetti special main; I had the very popular calamari entree (it was running out to the tables!!) and the veal saltimbocca. All of our dishes were faultless, lovely and tasty but very much using fresh ingredients and none of that "pre-prepared" flavor that you can sometimes encounter with some less sophisticated Italian eateries. And congratulations on such thoughtful gluten free menu options too; we have friends who will appreciate that. We couldn't fit dessert in, and had several dishes we wished we could have tried but it doesn't matter. We re-booked a table for seven for next weekend on our way out the door! Congratulations to the Colle Rosso team on a lovely and lively restaurant and beautiful Italian food at very reasonable prices.

Real Italian Pizza!!!. I'm Italian and since I moved to Brisbane it's been hard for me to find a good pizza which was just a little close to the Italian one. Now I found it!! This crunchy and tasty base, with the right amount of topping as the real Italian pizza is, made me eat the whole pizza by myself as I'm used to, as it's not that heavy like the most I've tried before here in Brisbane. Try the Rucola and Pachino one, it's to die for. I'm so proud of Colle Rosso Restaurant which reminded me home.

Love, Love, Love!!. I have been to the restaurant on a Monday night!! It was very busy, but the service was quick and friendly, and the food is just to die for! Calzone pizza is the best ever! My friend had linguini marinara and it was simply divine! Delicious dessert special with homemade puff pastry and custard.... Sooo yummy!
We'll be back shortly... I can't wait!

The venue is quite nice and definitely feels Italian, but seeing that cold empty sidewalk outside those big windows quickly brought you back to suburban Brisbane. The service was absolutely exceptional and full credits to them. The food however was somewhat average. Well presented but bland and rather small when it came to the main bits such as the Moreton Bay Bug and Chicken Breast. They looked like the sides placed on a big bed of gnocchi and mash. We thought our waitress deserved a decent tip for her service but seeing a community tip plate at the register quickly made us changed our mind about that. The experience just wasn't good enough to go back again.

Very authentic, which makes a nice change from all the american style Italian restaurants in Brisbane, will be back for sure, pizza was great and so was the veal, bravo!
Victor
Best Pizza ever! Great atmosphere, friendly and attentive service even if the restaurant was full and awsome food! Gorgeous dining experience!! Thanks to all the Colle Rosso staff for making our night out!

Slow service, noisy place. We went there after hearing from Italian friends that a new Italian restaurant had opened. First thing, is that it is extremey noisy, we had to yell to talk to each other, definitely not a good place for a romantic dinner. I wanted to come to eat a nice pasta dish, but there is only little choice of pasta, that was my first disappointlent. After being asked 3 times too early what we wanted to order, We ordered bruscette as a starter, which were yummy, really liked it. We then had ordered a pizza and a parmigiana...we had to wait 1h before getting our dishes! The parmigiana was no good, not cooked through, dry and bland, very disapointing. The pizza dough was excellent but the filling once more was light and bland. We were disappointed by the experience overall and would have expected to have the drinks or something removed from the bill as a gesture of good will. We were simply told that they received a review in the news that week and were not expecting that it will get that busy as a result of it', the waitress was so smiley it was hard to be tough on them but still we wont come back.

Nice food, slow service. It started badly, after trying to,phone to make a booking - five phone calls going strait to message bank we decided to try our luck and turn up. We got a table and ordered. Time ticked by and we asked after half an hour if our pasta dishes would turn up soon, nothing, no feedback for about 10 minutes. We were told it was on the way. 20 minutes later we asked again. In the end it took about 70 minutes for two simple pasts dishes to arrive. On leaving we enquired if there had been a problem in the kitchen. the response was 'no it sometimes just happens' no apology, no explanation, just a look of surprise that we would ask. We won't be going back .

Great authentic italian food, we had amazing pasta, fantastic pizza, and refreshing gelati. It was really busy, but we had friendly wait staff and great service. It felt like we were back in italy on our holiday enjoying mouth watering food. It is now our favourite italian restaurant!
JR
Burnt bread - seriously who would send that out to diners? Average service, poor wine selection. Will not be back

Garlic pizza burnt i mean black Pizza was dry with no sauce. Gelato was excellent as where my friends meals maybe I got unlucky. Service was efficent but rude continually interrupting I can only give a 5/10

Casual Italian dining. Food ok but overpriced for what you get. Friendly Service

Easily the best new restaurant I've tried in years and certainly the best Italian in Brisbane. The service was excellent and the home-made pasta was to die for

Great night out. Really enjoyed dinner here on a very busy Saturday night just before Christmas. Despite being a large table and the restaurant being pretty full (not to mention takeaways), the service was excellent, friendly, unfailing and quick to address any little mix ups. The food really hit the mark, meal servings plentiful and tasty. It's not adventurours or experimental, it's pretty traditional Italian, done simply and done well. Lovely ambience as well. Highly recommended

Favourite restaurant in the making. My family today had a fabulous meal for my brother's 50th birthday. The veal with the prosciutto melted in the mouth.... Service was faultless. We will certainly return.

Our Local. My Wife and I have been regulars since opening.
Even when we promise each other that we will order something that we haven't eaten one of us can't get past ordering the Mussells in the most amazing bisque full of tomato, chilli and garlic.
The owners are extremely attentive and knowlegable and we wish them the very best.
PS the pizza's are predictably awesome

Real Italian Pizza. Me and my wife went in Colle Rosso last week. We both are Italian food lovers, and we had pizza. The taste was amazing. The quality of the ingredients incredibly high. It is the kind of pizza you can normally have only in a real pizzeria in Italy.
But if you really want a perferct dinner, you have to try one of their home-made desserts.
Clara
Amazing!!. Fist of all we are Italian!! we have to say that the food was amazing and really tasty!! We loved everything! We recommend "fusilli alla norma" and "filetto di salmone"; great wines and desserts. The stuff is great, we felt like at home. We found a little piece of Italy in Brisbane. We have been in a lot of Italian restaurant here, but Colle Rosso is the special one. we highly recommend it!
Geoff
Wow! I took the family there for a birthday dinner and have to commend the restaurant. The food was outstanding, while remaining reasonably priced. We really enjoyed all 3 courses - the tiramisu with nutella is an absolute must! The chef is Sardinian and it was nice to try some Sardinian wine off the menu to match the Sardinian influenced food. I strongly recommend trying this place - we ordered takeaway pizzas 2 days later from here and they were also of the highest quality. The porcina was exceptional. You won't regret a visit.

A taste of Italy in Red Hill. After watching and waiting patiently for Colle Rosso to open we finally were able to experience this real Italian restaurant. We booked for lunch for four and were amazed with the menu offered. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly which encourages you to linger and really enjoy the whole dining experience. The wonderful old photos and Italian music playing in the background transports you back to Italy.. Every course was a taste sensation, freshly prepared and beautifully presented. We will be back soon, this time for dinner.
Fritto Misto and the Zuppa di Pesce s Crostacei are a must.

Took my family to Colle Rosso - a new Italian restaurant in Red Hill - on the weekend. Had such a lovely time! Thanks to the chefs for their tasty real italian food and thanks Lisa and Laura for your friendly service. We had a ball!

My partner knows how much of an Italian food fan I am so booked us in here. It is run by 2 couples who obviously have a passion for food and drink. The food was delicious and the wine and pallet cleanses lovely. Highly recommend.

Nicole and I met up for our fortnightly catch up session. I got an invite for a 50% off discount at this Italian restaurant and decided to try it out since Ive driven past this place every Saturday when I was working at a vet emergency hospital during university. We went on a weeknight and it was surprisingly full of diners! We ordered a entree to share which was the I Nostri Famosi Calamari Fritti which was presented beautifully in conical bowl and tasted just as amazing. For main, I ordered Gnocchi alle Cicale di Mare e Zucchini which was gnocchi with zucchini and moreton bay bugs. It was pretty good but extremely filling and the moreton bay bugs were a little bit dry. Nicole ordered Linguine ala Marinarai which looked delicious and if I ever go there again, I would definitely order hers. The restaurant attempts to emulate an Italian feel with red and white checkered patterns, appropriately accented waiters/waitresses and vintage mirrors/wall decor. I didn't order anything for desse

The ravioli di ossobuco alla norcina - home made egg pasta filled with veal ossobuco in a black truffle creamy sauce and porcini mushrooms just looked amazing. The large ravioli pieces had generous amounts of tasty veal incased in well cooked pasta and then smothered in a beautiful and creamy truffle sauce. There was an earthy flavour that was quite pronounced and gave an indication that the truffle was likely truffle oil and not fresh truffles (which are much more subtle in flavour).
Feed Me Now Brisbane
The food is fresh (pasta made in-house), tasty and just a little different from your every day Italian flavours found around Brisbane. Go for the Ravioli Di Ossobuco with a creamy Saffron sauce or for a spicy kick, order the Gnocci Con Gamberi e Zucchine. The menu is extensive so if in doubt, ask your waitress (Laura or Lisa) to pick you the best or opt for the special.

Between the two of us, the pizza disappeared very quickly (perhaps a little too quickly), and it was all I could do to not run back and order another one or five...

I was blown away. This place is awesome. Stomach filling no nonsense Italian food.

Ordered kids margherita (huge!), kids bolognese (yum). Rucola, Parma ham and Parmesan pizza (massive!), vongole, marinara, salad colle rosso.
Brisbane Devoured
L went with Gnocci, served with a very generous amount of Moreton Bay bug, tomatoes, chilli and garlic in a bug bisque, topped with a quenelle of parsley mascarpone that melted and oozed its way in amongst the little pillows.

With no room for dessert, we finished our meal at Colle Rosso full and happy. I briefly mentioned above the TV showing images of Italy. This was right in my view and I thought it was great because it brought back happy memories of our time there. The waitstaff was so friendly and welcoming and that really added to our experience.
