Ahmet's is a Brisbane institution which must be protected at all costs. You are not too cool for Ahmets. It's Turkish cuisine at its finest. Anyone that doesn't like this place is either a snob, a karen, someone who doesn't enjoy life. Essential eating in Brisbane.
We ordered Iskender kebab, beef skewers and spinach and cheese borek. We ordered the borek as starter and little did we know it would be too much. As a person who grew up in Middle East I expected the borek to be one layer because that’s the authentic version. But despite that, it tasted good. The Iskender kebab was a big portion and too oily. From previous experience I know that it shouldn’t be this oily. The beef skewer was hard and chewy and again tasted good . The ayran could denitely be more sour. The 4 stars is for the taste but there are few things that they could improve on to make it more authentic. Overall decent meal.
I was suggested to dine here this evening as my brother and I were seeing a play at QPAC.
The restaurant is large and functional, it's position is great as it sits adjacent to all the family areas of Southbank.
I ordered the zucchini Fritters which were nice, but were more bready than zucchini, but like I said they were tasty and crunchy where they needed to be and soft and fluffy in the middle.
I ordered the flame grilled vegetable skewers for my main meal and they were delicious.
My brother ordered their famous mixed grill, and he said it was absolutely delicious, especially liking the chicken which was juicy and tender.
Also we ordered garlic Turkish bread as a pre meal nibble.
I shall be back thanks very much. SARDS.
