Review Trang Restaurant - Brisbane

Ron Almera
I've been coming here for over 20yrs and the only things have changed is the decor but the dishes are still deliciously traditional style Vietnamese street food. Bloody awesome!
Giselle Campos
Delicious Vietnamese food and reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Note this restaurant is not BYO for beer but it is BYO for wine. They do have a wide selection of beer to choose from at the restaurant at a reasonable price. We had the combination soup and the spicy pork soup. Finished with Vietnamese drip coffee and banana fritter

Trangs provides excellent quality Vietnamese and Chinese dishes in the inner city area. My favourites here are the laksa, combination pho and the combination broken rice. The portion sizes are super generous and it's definitely great value for money. The service is good, and they accept both bookings and walk-in customers. Parking within the complex is extremely limited but there is plenty of street parking further down Hardgrave Road and the side streets.

Our first time here afew weeks ago. Will definitely come back…nice warm soup for rainy days.

Nice ambience to this place. The staff are nice, professional and polite. The food was amazing. I will come back

Great place for food and space for enjoying a meal with mates. Service was patient, friendly and knowledgeable in the food they sell as well as recommending what people might prefer. It was my first time here and can see myself eating here in the future. I can recommend Trang's for Vietnamese and Chinese food. Also, they do split bills. Tell your friends or try it yourself, or not. I am a stranger on the internet so you don't have to listen to me. Listen to your gut and if it likes good food, then I can recommend here.

Just moved to the area and decided to try this place. Overall quite disappointed. Ordered a takeaway of pork ribs in Peking sauce and small fried rice with prawns which cost me $27. The serving was small though the biggest let down was the rice being cold and containing no prawns at all. I had to microwave it when I got home. Pretty sure it was at least a couple of days old.. There's another Chinese a couple of doors down that's better with bigger servings that provide 2-3 meals for the same price.

The food was ok, the salt and pepper tofu was good, BUT it took more than 2 hours for our full order to arrive at the table after ordering, with dishes arriving randomly and at lengthy intervals. One person had finished their main a full hour before the last persons laksa arrived and they had to eat it in a hurry with everyone freezing and keen to get home.

Quality seems to have decreased over the years. Suspecting a change in management. Flavour not as authentic anymore. Ordered the pork chop rice and the pork chop was too sweet and lacked Vietnamese lemongrass flavour. Noodles clumped together in the pho (with thick noodles). Portion on the smaller side.<br/><br/>Cleanliness of the environment was unsatisfactory. Seating closer to the restaurant WC are affected by bad odours. The other side of the restaurant is ok. Inefficient service- slow table changeover, forgetting cutlery, forgetting bean sprouts which complement pho.<br/><br/>Quite disappointed as Trang was once an award winning restaurant. I give it a generous 3 star, but probably won’t be back.

Extremely racist, just because two of us had white skin, we never received pair of chopsticks (and we ordered pho), as well as when I ordered I clearly asked for lots of chopped chilli with my pho, never got it. Our phos came out already while we are waiting on chilli and shit service, i asked the girl for chilli she gave us like 4 paper thin slices of chilli, i was lost for words as this is not traditional vietnamese style of eating, i had to ask for a pair scissors so i could cut the red chillis up i had in the car. So we ended up having to bring our own because they refuse to give us while costing us extra $7.50 each for a rice bowl size of soup and two pieces of meat and 3 tendons in there as we ordered “extra” thats the price but we never got our chillis or the sauces to dip anything in. The size of the pho bowl is much smaller compared to others also lacking in flavour alot. My friend was served a stale coconut drink and he had to send it back to the kitchen for another one and that was charged as well, they have no sense on how to do business while being extremely unprofessional and RACIST. Chac’s grill restaurant in inala is amazing check it out.

Very good and friendly service, both with seating and taking orders. Meals a bit slow to come out, but it was a good chance to chat. The fresh rolls with tofu were good, and the pho excellent. Especially the beef. Overall good experience and will be back

Having been a customer of Trangs at West End in Brisbane for more than 15 years, we made the decision last night, after having purchased a very disappointing and stale take-away meal from this restaurant, not to return again. Over the past 3-4 years, we had found a distinct drop in both the quality of food and value for money from Trangs. Prior to this change happening, we would have every family birthday and Chinese New Year family event at Trangs West End. This would be around 8-10 visits to this restaurant every year with groups ranging from 4-12 people. We used to rave about the fresh food we received. Last night's take-away meal was not fresh; the pork was old, the rice hard; we will not go back.

Pho<br/>My husband and I came here for lunch on Sunday and we ordered the rare beef pho and the crispy chicken with fried rice. The crispy chicken was good but not remarkable, however the pho was outstanding - the broth was very rich and fragrant. We're thrilled to have an authentic Vietamese noodle soup without having to drive to Inala or Sunnybank.

One of my favourite places to go for pho. Bit of a drive for me but worth it on a cold night. Wish they did delivery though. That would be amazing.
Two_wandering_souls
Combination pork chop with rice is a favourite Vietnamese dish of ours. The seafood laksa and the Vietnamese noodle soup are also fantastic.

rang is honestly the best value for money Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane. I have eaten there over 10 times and the food is always incredible, especially considering the reasonable pricing. Staff are always so friendly and welcoming.

Went for an early dinner with my family, the place was half empty, most of the tables present were already served meals. Ordered our meals and the proceeded to wait over an hour for my niece's fried rice with crispy chicken, my nephew never received his beverage. The owner tried to blame the wait on the later arrivals. My mother received the wrong meal and the one that arrived was bland and tasteless. I don't recommend this place anymore; I have been a regular for around 12 years, the place has fallen in all areas dramatically.
LaMondo
The poached chicken laksa was okay. It really filled me up and I liked the interesting texture of having two different types of noodles in one dish (egg and rice). However, the soup was a bit odd. I’m not entirely sure how to describe it, but it may be because there wasn’t a distinct flavour? It’s not that it wasn’t seasoned enough but I just wasn’t sure what it was meant to taste like...
Spice Is Life
We dined with some friends on a weekend lunch. Since I really enjoyed my broken rice combination meal at their neighbouring restaurant, I decided to give Trang’s one a go. Wife on the other hand, got the rare beef noodle soup and we ordered a salt and pepper bean curd to share.<br/><br/>The broken rice combination was delicious, the pork shop juicy and the portion filling. There was no shortage of dips and sauces on the table and I happily dug in. My wife’s noodle soup was delicious too- tangy, spicy and had just the right amount of flavour. Unfortunately, staff did not use a notepad to take our order and had forgotten about our bean curd. Despite our follow up, it never arrived and in the end we had to cancel the order. A shame, as we had really been looking forward to it.
Cherlyn
Pho was beneath average, rice vermicelli was also very average but the grilled pork was way too salty. Overall, I would say that their food is not worth it, and I will not be paying them another visit.
Jace Robinson
The staff are so friendly and welcoming. The value for $ amazing. The famous crispy skinned chicken however was over cooked and bland. The egg soup likewise lacked a great amount of flavor.. All in all a filling meal made of pleasant offerings. Just not a wowed. EDIT : after subsequent visits I must say if you choose any pho or laksa soups you will leave very very happy

Update: 4/5<br/>Dined here today for lunch and ordered the seafood laksa. Wow, one of the best laksas I have tasted. Ingredients were fresh and flavour of the broth was spot on! Will definitely be back :) <br/><br/>Original rating: 3/5 <br/>Dined here the other night after hearing all the fantastic reviews. We ordered the pho soup with rare beef balls, the combination grilled lemon grass pork vermicelli salad and a deep fried ice cream. The pho soup was average. The broth was quite watered down but ingredients were fresh. The salad also was fresh and pork was tasty. The deep fried ice cream was delicious :) staff were friendly and loved the fact that it was BYO.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5626117/Popular-Brisbane-Vietnamese-eatery-Trang-Restaurant-accused-disregarding-food-safety-laws.html read this article people. the one and only time i dined there my food was full of bugs<br/>

So sad that today I saw in newspaper that Trang is accused of poisoning 8 diners with salmonella. And health inspectors found raw chicken defrosting among dirty dishes underneath a kitchen sink, a pigeon under a preparation bench and slime-ridden buckets used for storing food.<br/><br/>Health inspectors have since filed a complaint in the Brisbane’s Magistrate’s Court accusing the Trang Restaurant of serious breaches of food safety laws. According to Courier Mail the owner has been charged with multiple food-related offences.<br/><br/>The service in Trang has always been good and food is nice, but surely it's shocking to now know how they prepare the food and the condition of their kitchen. My husband and I are always speak highly of Trang, until now. Please respect your diners by giving us well prepared food from a clean kitchen.<br/><br/>Very sad and shocking. Before I heard the news Trang has always been a 4 out of 5 stars for me. But now 1 star feels quite generous.<br/><br/>You can find the article in Hospitalitymagazine.com.au, Courier Mail and Daily Mail. or simply Google it.

Unfortunately doesn't live up to the reviews! We were so excited to try this place as it is continually rated among the top ten in West End. I had a tofu dish was more like a drenched soup than a stir-fry (way too much sauce) and a szechuan chicken dish that wasn't spicy at all. The drinks came when we had completely finished our meals (and were incorrect). Might give it one more try, but really let down!
Debbie
We had banquet 1 all of the food was fresh. Prawn dish was particularly good as was the pork cutlet. Service was quick and friendly. My family loved the pho soup. <br/>

We meant to explore the Chu The Phat on Sunday but could not find a parking spot due to special event in Convention Centre. Therefore we changed to visit this busy Vietnamese restaurant at Hardgrave Road. Arrived at 12:00 noon that there was only 1/3 of tables being occupied. It then was full house within 15 minutes. Ordered the rare beef noodle soup, beef stew noodle soup and the rice paper wrap with grilled pork. Broth of both noodles delivered their own characteristic taste. The beef of rare beef noodle was med-rare when the noodle was presented to the table (4/5). I love that they used shin beef to prepare for the stew noodle soup, where the beef pieces were all melted in my mouth. Carrots piece absorbed the taste of beef and they were soft too (4/5). The rice paper wraps were pre-wrapped prior to the table, which was not a bad idea because we had not had enough room on the table. We loved the wraps because they were all generous in portions (4/5). Overall, the lunch was impressive if there was more rooms between tables then marks would be definitely added. In fact, tables were arranged very packed and I hardly got the space to go out fixing up my bill.
Michelle
Totally enjoyed our experience. Soft shell crab was a highlight. Only criticism was that the rice paper rolls came out with the main instead as an entree as requested. Service was prompt, great value for money!

I ordered Pho Tai Nam come with Fresh sliced beef & lean brisket , the browth was tasty and fresh, the portion quite big. Saigon summer rolls (lemongrass beef, prawn), so yummy 😋. I think this is the best Pho so far.
Foodislove
Maybe I had too high expectation seeing the good ratings. Food wasn’t good at all except for the pork chop.<br/>You would be better off driving to Sunnybank.

Had stopped eating at Trang for a couple of years since the meals and service were dropped down in their quality. We were in the area and tried to find something opened in between late lunch and early dinner hours, so ended up at Trang. The pork chop with rice and chicken laksa tasted quite alright. I stopped enjoying my meal when I saw hair in my noodle, and was disappointed that the waiter didn't take any action after having been told of the hair in my food. Of course this sort of thing could happen in any restaurants but at least a professional response should have had taken.

I ordered the combination broken rice here. It was pretty flavourful, and I would say it's a convenient option when you're craving for Vietnamese food but can't head out to inala or darra. The serving was pretty generous though service was just a tad slow, but forgivable. Do note that if you choose to sit outside, there might be a couple of buzzing flies, but nevertheless, I wouldn't mind coming back here.
Faith Canales
We went at 3:30pm and they were serving Vietnamese food only. So initially I had to order something I didn't really want. But of course the food was lovely. There was only 2 staff members on at this time so service was a little slower than the normal dinner pace. But still friendly! I probably won't be back before 5 again as I enjoy all the Chinese dishes but it's always good to try something new and it was very nice! <br/>Have been here for dinner and my advice... BOOK A TABLE. Such a busy little place! Every table is taken and there's such a fast turnover. Very professional staff and food is very quick.
Xiaoyue Yang
It's a bit difficult to find the location. A lot of people have a lunch here but I think the food is just at average level. Not good environment. The flies is really troubling. The only surprise is the Vietnam ice coffee, which is the good point.
Vivien Wang
Hygiene problem. Flies everywhere (probably because of the fish sauce). Birds got inside staring at our food. Spent 1 hour there, and 55 mins were eating while fighting with flies and birds. Such a tiring dining experience 😩

Summary: Trang is decent value, has large variety of menu items, always has a vibrant scene (packed!) but you will most likely be disappointed if the mention of 'Award winning' meant you thought you'd actually get to taste something great.<br/>Trang is a very reliable place to eat in one of the three restaurant strips around West End. <br/>It has (supposedly) won several awards but I have to admit we haven't really tried any of these award winning dishes, however they are still pretty consistent and reliable.<br/><br/>One thing to note is that it is BUSY during peak hours, so it may be wise to make a reservation as you'll see the place packed full. Staff is usually pretty nice though, so at least you don't have to worry too much about that.<br/><br/>The food itself is decent, I can't say there's something you 'must try' because we haven't found anything that especial. We're big fans of Pho but their Pho is actually usually very lightly seasoned compared to other Vietnamese restaurants (Read: Arguably bland), definitely need extra sauce etc, one of the things that is different though is that they do seem to use higher quality cuts of meat and cook them better (As around Brisbane - outside of Inala that is, most Pho you get has super dry beef/chicken). Fried rice, soy chicken, Laksa, etc, it's all okay. Just Okay.<br/><br/>One of the things that probably make Trang so acceptable to people (including us) is that it's honestly not a badly priced restaurant, you definitely think you get enough food of a good enough quality and taste for what you paid, making it popular with younger crowds as well thanks to this.<br/><br/>It is sometimes worth checking if they're continuing to update their online takeaway orders, as they used to have offers where you'd get a free drink if you ordered online to pick up. (I assume as a way to reduce the amount of people having to wait or wasted seats in their always full restaurant!)

Cheap and large pho (too much for me to eat) with generous amounts of herbs and bean sprouts. I was happy and so were my friends. We will be back for more warm tasty broth.

Updated review Dec 2019. Went here for weekday dinner with the partner and family.<br/>We ordered starters of rice paper rolls (similar to previous, too much noodles), and then Rare Beef Noodle Soup (good portion and flavour, however no usual condiments of beansprouts, lemon and herbs), Spicy Noodle Soup (quite mild), Combination Vermicelli (good flavours and balance of pork and salad), Combination Broken Rice (cold, dry rice and small portion of pork) and Vegetarian Laksa (nice coconut flavour however lacking variety of vegetables).<br/>Poor service - waited up to 40mins for our meals, which would have been justifiable due to the busy crowds, however let down as tables arriving after us were served their main meals first (after complaining and paying full price, the staff finally disclosed that they had lost our order and later found it on the floor!) Casual ambience. Reasonable prices.<br/>Overall, largely unchanged from last review and respect has been decreased by poor customer service. More competitive authentic Vietnamese places found nearby.<br/>________________<br/><br/>May 2017: Went here for brunch with the family (party of five). There was a bit of a hustle as we were asked to move tables for a company of six, and there was a lack of larger tables seated outside. So it was a bit of a disappointment being seated at a single table with all of our meals clumped together.<br/>We shared the beef and lemongrass rice paper rolls to start with, which unfortunately had more noodles than substantial filling. For mains, I had the vegetarian mapo and bun bo hue. Both were full of flavour, good portions and filling.<br/>Overall, a reasonable Viet restaurant but more competitive Viet restaurants are definitely available (at Inala, or nearby...).

Really a west end establishment. It's my go to when I'm craving some Asian take away. Usually go for the BBQ pork and wanton soup and it's always great. Always fresh and on time. Cheap as too
Kan Do
Trang is another West End restaurant that I had bookmarked for a while. I would describe their offerings as more pan-Asian than Vietnamese cuisine, since they do both Vietnamese and Chinese/ Chinese Malaysian cuisine on the same menu.  This suits Mrs Kan Do as she finds that what she likes in Vietnamese food is a bit limited. <br/>I ordered a combination pork chop with broken rice, and Mrs Kan Do ordered a prawn (curry) laksa. <br/>The prawn laksa (called curry mee in Malaysia) arrived first and Mrs Kan Do loved it. She rated it a 4-4.5. I tasted it too and thought it was done reasonably well. <br/>My combination pork chop with rice was also quite good with a tasty pork chop and the usual accompaniments. The egg was slightly overcooked. I would rate it a 3.5. <br/>The prices were very reasonable for the quantities we received. <br/>A visit in the future is very much on the cards since they won Mrs Kan Do's affections!

A full house on a Tuesday night and the service was still fast. Portions were substantial but the cooking was only average at best. Satay sticks disappointed with an oily sauce, mixed entrees were fried to hell, duck in plum sauce was similarly treated, Mongolian sizzling lamb was good, but the vegetables were not fresh. I selected from the Chinese menu & was left wondering if perhaps the Vietnamese menu would have been a better choice? They have a stricter payment policy than I'm used to, no split bills, cash or 1 card per table.

Super delicious food. Service was friendly. Loved the Pho . Only downfall was the horrendous toilet situation. So dirty and not maintained. Is licensed and byo

Very good Vietnamese! Best laksa (pork) I can ever remember having - delicious! Can't wait to go back and excited about another one opening at Coorparoo. Yum.

Saturday lunch for two at Trang. We ordered the sliced pork rolls for starters and a Pho Ga and crispy chicken with fried rice as our two mains. All arrived at about the same time (though the rolls arrived just after the Pho) which isn't that unusual. The pork rolls were stuck together and dry, obviously not having been kept moist in the refrigerator. Filling was plentiful but the rice paper itself was dry and hard at the corners. Disappointing. (If you're storing these things to eat later they should be kept refrigerated under a moist towel or similar to stop them from drying out.) The Pho Ga was equally poor, a cloudy broth containing plenty of steamed chicken on rice noodles but nothing else. Where was the spring onion and side plate of Vietnamese herbs, greens and fresh chilli? All we received was one iceberg lettuce cup and beansprouts!! Whats that all about!? Traditional Pho Ga? Nowhere near, mate! About as traditionally Vietnamese as Yorkshire pudding!<br/>Fried chicken skin was nice and crispy though the breast was totally dry and overcooked. Unpleasant.<br/>Overall, a pretty poor experience. The prices here are not cheap, $13.95 for a Pho Ga which is about the same price as Luke Nguyens 'Fat Noodle" restaurant at Brisbane Casino. That's CBD prices in the 'burbs. <br/>However, I must add that the 2 male waiting staff on our visit were very helpful and polite. Thank you for that guys.....but give the Vietnamese cook a wake up call!

Grab a Bahn Mi and three color ice to go. Very friendly services:) three color ice taste great, perfect for a hot summer day. Bahn Mi is tasty. I wish there was some pate in the Bahn Mi (or there probably is some mixed with the mayo.) I thought taste something like a pate a little bit? I just love a strong pate flavor with my Bahn Mi. If you are not a fan of pate, this one will works nice for you.<br/><br/>Will go back to try something else since my Viet friend recommended this restaurant highly:)
Scrambled Ebs
I have had this on my must-try list for a while and waited until we had a pho craving. The pho was quite good, not outstanding but I would happily eat it again. Unfortunately though, I don't think I will return. The service wasn't great. Once they took our order and delivered our food, we may as well have been invisible. I tried desperately to order a red bean and ice drink - I first politely waited to make eye contact, then after quite some time tried the "excuse me" a few times to no avail. I had to follow someone and stop him in his tracks for service. (I love red beans and rice that much). As I saw someone else mention, there was a fair bit of fly swatting during our meal. They also need to do something about the family of pigeons living above some tables. I am sure diners are getting pooped on! Good food but the service means I will probably not find myself back here.
Sharonb1966
Excellent friendly service accompanied with delicious well presented dishes . Authentic flavours and generous servings. This restaurant has a great street vibe. Our dining experience was memorable for all the right reasons.

So bad! I have order a drink which is call red bean coconut milk I can't believe they just give me half glass of that . Everything I order are not delicious at all and they are just so little. I recommend to go to Sunnybank ... much better than here.

Came in a group of friends tonight and the food took over an hour to come out. Not only that, the food trickled in so half of the table was well and truly finished when the other half started their meals. Won’t be back again
Sammy
As previous Trang regulars before the change of ownership,we returned back for old times sake. We arrived at 1:30, were given a menu and then that's the last we saw of our waiter. My husband tried to wave him down multiple times but he ignored us. After 25 minutes of no service, we finished our drinks and left and went to Quan Thanh a few doors up where our order was taken within minutes. <br/>We will not be returning to Trang

Trangs is SO popular and I can see why. Service is good, wait staff are friendly and Natasha the owner is very hands on with her customers.<br/><br/>The food is nothing special but it's solid, quick and the price matches the quality. All in all a good cheap and cheerful place.
Hungrygirl
It's not a bad little spot for a quick meal that offers value for money and service with a smile. I have tried a range of different dishes here. The crispy skin chicken with fried rice was delicious; the chicken was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the skin was nice and crispy but not fatty and the chicken itself was really juicy and tender. Unfortunately the other meals I have had here haven't been as good. The rare beef noodle soup was okay but the flavours were off balance making it overly salty but the laksa was good (it could definitely do with more spice). Despite that I would definitely come back.
Liam
Really good Pho but a high price to pay compared to what you can get elsewhere in Brisbane.<br/><br/>Very friendly staff and a lovely location still make it worth the trip!  A very good place for a more formal dinner.
Sam Dunnett
Legit just had one of the best rare beef pho I can remember, and it was from Trangs! Sah good! Trangs was obviously showing form tonight but are generally pretty consistent with their soup. I feel that the love put into the pho isn't spread to everything on trangs' menu but for the price and the genuine Nam experience it's hard to beat - in Brissy anyway.<br/>Cheers
Theo
Very good food! Very reasonable prices! Local hangout! Excellent service. Reminded me of an eating house in Asia. We will be back, often, I'm sure.
Julie Tran
Service was surprisingly slow and confusing, but the awesome food made up for it :) Super filling, flavoured perfectly, would definitely recommend this lovely lil place!
Coffee Boy
The best pho in Brisbane. (If you know better please leave it in the comments; I'd like to try.) These guys turn out a seriously good version of the classic Vietnamese noodle soup. Really hits the spot on a cooler winter's day. Be warned though, when they say XL they are not kidding; it's big enough to bathe in.
JZ
Been here twice, everything is great and reasonably priced. Highly recommend the soft shell crab, it's so fresh, crispy and meaty! Will definitely come back!
Anna
Entrees were nice, chicken satay sticks and San Choy bow. Mains were way below average. The chicken was similar to what you get at Woolworths but way worse. Neither of us could eat much of our mains
Paul 'Willa' Wilson
Arrived at 8:30pm and instead of being welcomed were informed abruptly that they were closing at 10pm. Brought out entrees and mains at the same time. At 9:45pm bills were dropped at all tables without courtesy. At 9:55pm all tables were packed up around us and we were reminded that they would be closing at 10pm. I have been here many many times before and both the food and service have been unrivalled. Dianne in particular was a shining star - tonight she was nowhere to be seen - which aligns with the demise in service. While food was still of a high quality, service leaves a lot to be deserved. I am questioning whether to return as a result.
Spanner
Friendly staff and food came out quick. Chicken satay was below average. Satay tasted like it was from a can. The salt and pepper squid lacked two important elements being salt and pepper and the Mongolian lamb was just a pass. Not sure what the fuss is about this place bug I give it a 4/10<br/>
DB
Fantastically fresh and vibrant vietnamese resturant. Great crispy chicken soup with egg noodle! Staff were super friendly and efficient. Except the manager who was super terse about not splitting bills... so dont even ask. Byo, but no bother because there is a bottleshop next door. Great place for a quick, well priced, delicious Vietnamese feed!
Shelley Wall
Great place, lovely good and friendly staff but the menu uploaded to this page is not correct so don't go there expecting to order from what is pictured.
Lou
My absolute favourite Vietnamese restaurant in BrizVegas for both dine in and take away. Always superb food, great service, friendly service, excellent value. Well worthwhile travelling the half hour it takes me to get there.
Candi Coco
I've been coming here for years and always get the same thing. Glass noodle soup with grilled pork chop. THEE best. Also if I'm feeling extra hungry the rice paper rolls (I roll my own) in grilled beef steak or sugar cane prawn are both amazing
Tasting Plate
Fast, fresh and tasty. While Trang isn't what it used to be the decor is really nice and comfortable. It does feel a bit rushed sometimes even when it's not busy but if you're hungry and want it fast this is the place to go.
Ballerina
popped in for lunch after a very long time to find that the restaurant looks very much has though it may have changed hands - reference to West End & another.<br/>I enjoyed my lunch, very nice, my friend did not like hers has much - tofu was a bit oily. having said that I would go back, but what happened to the price of everything? a great deal of 'white-out' used on every page of the menu and now too expensive for the strip - Hardgrave Rd, where there are two other Vietnamese Restaurants severing very good food! at much better cost....
Yorkie_Traveller
Popped over to West End for lunch at Trangs as we'd read and heard great things about the Vietnamese food there. <br/>We arrived a few minutes before midday and it was already busy inside and out. Menus were quickly despatched and not too long after our order was taken. Food and iced coffee arrived pretty quickly. <br/>We had a large bowl of phở and a prawn vermicelli salad. The phở was large and tasty; lots of tasty beef and a nice brith although I probably prefer others where the cinnamon is more evident. Great to get fresh (hot!) chilli on the side instead of the sauce but not enough herbs really. Salad was ok, prawns were good but the salad wasn't quite as good as others places around Brisbane, not enough variety of veg and herbs in the salad itself. The Vietnamese iced coffee was excellent and probably the best I've had in Brisbane so far. <br/>Would return and try some of the other dishes and a 333 when not doing dry January!
Magic
Chicken Glass Noodle Soup (Miến Gà) - Tasty broth, noodles were perfectly cooked and so was the chicken l. I opted for extra veggies. I would rate this soup 3.5/5

Haven't been to this place in quite a while since we moved away from West End. While their stir fried dishes were pretty average, their Rare Beef Pho was amazing and Rice Paper Rolls are unbeatable. We have yet to come across Rice Paper Rolls that taste anywhere near as good as what they have here. Sugar Cane Prawn, Grilled Pork, Grilled Beef are our favourites. Vermicelli Salad was also decent. <br/><br/>Very good food, great value for money. Trang is awesome enough to be your everyday restaurant.
Andrew
Went to a fave of ours for NYE meal and was once again great value for money and great dishes. Most tables outside were full with diners and not many empty inside. All the staff are smiling and helpful with any dishes and requests, we usually have the great Pho dishes, but tonight we started with pork and prawn rolls, very nice and fresh. We then ordered soft shell crab in salt and pepper and pork ribs in Peking sauce.<br/>Both meals came out nearly together and both were generous sizes and tasted great. If you want a good priced Vietnamese or Chinese meal, this place is great within many others in West end.
JD
Another excellent West End Vietnamese venue.  Arguably some of the best beef pho in the area, only down side to this restaurant is that their portion sizes are slightly smaller than other nearby Vietnamese outlets (a few doors down..).  Both BYO and licensed adds to the allure of Trangs!  Would highly recommend their San Choy Bow too.  Service here is always outstanding with staff very attentive and accommodating.
N&M
Delicious pho! <br/><br/>Located in the back streets of West End, and grouped with a mix of other Asian restaurants, this restaurant was packed on a weekday evening, and rightly so. <br/><br/>The spring rolls were piping hot (and really long!) and deep fried to perfection. <br/><br/>Service was great, as long as you could catch the attention of the busy wait staff.
Frenchfrygirl
Have been coming here for years and always love the food and the prices. The service is friendly, quick and food waiting times are minimal considering the amount of full tables on any given night. I usually get my fav viet dish, vermicelli salad with veg spring rolls and it never dissapoints. Because of it's popularity, it is always quite packed, with other tables a little too close than you'd like - it is difficult to have a conversation. Other than that, would definitely come back.
Kate Parrott
Service and food were good. I shared the pork and salad rolls and the lemon chicken with rice. Both were cooked well but nothing was exceptional. Flavors could have been more interesting. That being said I would go back if I felt like Vietnamese as now that Dukblah has closed this is the next best thing. I would be keen to try other dishes too as I kept my ordering quite conservative for my first visit. P.s the Coconut drink is amazing.

You cant go wrong with trang, consistently high quality and tasty food, speedy service and very very well priced! Partner and i come here all the time as we know we will always get the consistent quality food. Great pho's, softshell crab, rice paper rolls, chicken salads, deep fried wantons, pork and wanton soup.....its all good!
MsK
Consistent service, decor is ok, a little outdated though. You can sit inside or outside. The food is pretty good, they do a really good spicy beef noodle soup; as well as their pho and vermicelli noodle salad. Have not had a bad meal here at all.
AnitaOnChi
Delicious authentic Viet and Chinese food at an extremely affordable price. This place reminds me of being in HK/Asia and is an excellent spot to have a casual friend catch up/girlie date/family gathering. Atmosphere is so chilled and service always comes with a smile on the dile!
PleasantPeristalsis
This place serves the best pho and rice vermicelli salad in Brisbane. With generous portion sizes, friendly staff and ambient atmosphere it is a great place for a casual dine out with family and mates.

Has been amongst my favourite restaurants around the world for 10 years! I have tried other beef noodle soups here and internationally (not Vietnam yet) and for me, no other place can compare, even Inala or Sunnybank.

Trang is always a great place for cheap Vietnamese or Chinese! Went there last night and got the spring rolls, rice paper rolls, satay chicken and chicken laksa. Absolutely nothing to complain about! Even the $5 house wine went down well
Jess
Enjoyed a great celebratory dinner at Trang's about s month ago. The food was delicious and generous + the added bonus of BYO! Despite our very load (and slightly tipsy) party of 10, staff were patient and super attentive. Great atmosphere, will certainly be back.

The pho was OKAY, not as full of flavour as most traditional pho. We also got the sweet and sour pork, for the price l, the serving was quite small. Overall a nice restaurant to have a quick dinner, noisy inside and fast service. Tri colour drink was a favourite!
Misscharlot
i have no idea why this place always got a long queue, i just feel like is all MSG intake ...i have to drink so much water after the dinner. <br/>and since is so crowded is noisy but the food comes out really quick, that's a plus.

Deliciously cheap and cheerful the place to go when your craving Vietnamese food, very friendly well trained staff, and every dish has bags of flavour

Love it love it love it! As good as Inala's pho but more accessible. Good service and awesome food. Come early or make reservations as it is busy even on weekdays.

We had a Friday night dinner as part of a large group at Trang. We were pleased with both the food and the service. We were seated upstairs which we were pleased about because it was a very cold night. It took a while for our order to be taken but once it was the entrees arrived in good time. When the main courses started to arrive they had not yet handed out more plates but these quickly arrived on request. Not all the food arrived at the same time with a couple arriving about 10-15 minutes after all the others. Unfortunately the child's meal was one of these and despite asking for a plain omelette it was smothered in very salty brown sauce. The vegetarian fried rice was lovely, as was the stir fried mixed vegetables but the highlight was the kung po fish. It wasn't a great meal for sharing as it was a whole fillet but it was so incredibly tasty this didn't really matter. Overall, the restaurant was way too noisy. I found myself shouting to the person sitting opposite and had a raspy throat by the end of the evening but everything else was good and we intend to return. <br/>

Always a winner. <br/>This has been my favourite vietnamese place outside of Inala in Brisbane for years. Took NZ friend here, was probably favourite meal of his stay.<br/>New menu item: salted duck egg prawn tempura was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS<br/>Go to staples: Beef ball pho; Lemongrass pork & spring roll salad; DIY spring rolls; Vietnamese laksa<br/>The best. A staple. Have and will go back again and again.<br/>Exactly what we need for an everyday dining option.

Trang' you need to get your act together. Showing customers to a table is one thing. Ignoring them and not taking their order is another. Customers will walk out and go to another establishment just up the road where in fact the food is better. Trangs seem to have lost their identity since their facelift.....disappointing!

Trang is always good! My favourites are pho ga (chicken rice noodles), pho bo (rare beef rice noodles) and the grilled pork noodles salad. Generous portion, perfect for winter, cheap and quick. Also recommend their refreshing home-made iced lemon tea (not the Lipton oen)!
Emily Stenlake
I love having a feed at Trang! The tofu rice paper wraps always hit the spot but what gets me is the kindness of the staff. I look forward to visiting each time knowing that I'll be greeted warmly. It is also lovely to sit outside for a taste of West End. Thanks TRANG! :)

Very busy. Enormous servings of fairly bland Vietnamese food. Everything tasting of everything. Not much culinary finesse but it sure kills that hunger. Come here if starving. Go elsewhere for a Meal. Overall recommend. Nothing quite like it in Westie.
Tja48
Lacking flavour and expensive. Ingredients lacking in many dishes , so dishes bland and unappetising . Odd taste to chicken satay, sweet and sour fish and greens with oyster sauce. Not a patch on previous owners fine Vietnamese dishes.

Exceptional food. We had an exceptionally delicious dinner in the banquet room. The service is great, sensational food, there is no place I'd rather take my family.
Orangepant
Undeservedly popular. This restaurant was nearly full on a weekday before 7pm.  Rapid service but sticky menus.<br/>Food:<br/>*San choi bao - Unfortunately, celery was the dominant flavour here. Vegetably crunch is important in this dish, but milder vegetables like cabbage and finely chopped green/snake beans are a much wiser choice. Also, the meat&veg were excessively wet with a sticky brown sauce which seemed to go everywhere.<br/>*Prawn and pork fresh spring rolls - rice paper a bit thick at the join, and the ratio of meat to noodle to veg was suboptimal (as always, too much noodle compared to the amount of prawn and fresh herb and veg). I prefer a light chilli-fish sauce-garlic-lime sauce (nam pla prik) rather than the provided hoisin-peanut concoction.<br/>*Crispy chicken with clear noodle soup - The chicken was a bit dry and without full infiltration of spices. The soup had a very unappealing background flavour which we thought may be related to insufficient soaking/preparation of the clear noodle. Either that, or something went very wrong with the broth. <br/>Money:

The soup, without a doubt was the best beef noodles soup that I've tasted in Brisbane. It had the right balance of beef, and intricate combination of spices with the added zing of lemon that I really appreciate. It was also really strong and comforting. The noodles were also cooked to just the right texture and consistency, being semi transparent, but not overly soft to the point where I cannot pick them up. Despite all this, the beef is what impressed me the most. It was just the right thickness, and was also the right level of rarity, whilst maintaining a soft texture. Overall, I loved this bowl of pho, and can understand why the reviews are so good.

Good Viet Food. Always a pleasant dining experience
Kometlife
High price small portion. This place is going into a bad direction, the nice decor shouldn't equate to small portions and high price for what is essentially traditional cheap good food. <br/><br/>Vietnamese food is on par or even better than Thai food but what makes it better than Thai food is that the vietnamese don't have rip of prices like the Thai but now sadly it's going down that route. <br/><br/>I stick to inala.
Quocle811
Came for lunch today, crispy skin chicken with egg noodle soup was so yummy. I will try combination pork chop next time looks very good too. Yummy yummy

Good viet noodle salad. Almost decent pho. Definitely can get better elsewhere. Viet noodle salad with lemongrass was great.

It's okay. This restaura.... It's okay. <br/><br/>This restaurant is fine. Possibly not one of the best but the food was lovely.

Not bad.. Trangs is probably in the Top 10 Pho places in Brisbane but unfortunately does not come close to Inala Restaurants. Pho was okay, small portion and over priced. Taste wasn't amazing but did have decent flavours.
AnnaR
Hair hair everywhere.. Having been going to Trang's for years I was very disappointed to find hair in my sugarcane prawn rice paper rolls. And I just haven't been able to eat them since, as I literally started eating the hair. Can staff please wear hair nets!?!
Luke
Best pho in town. Beef & beefball noodle soup = the best vietnamese dish you'll find in town.
Caroline_constantinou
Pho. When I need my pho fix and its too far to go to Inala, I go to Trangs in West End, it's cheap, delicious

Love me some Trang!. As regulars of this restaurant, my girlfriend and I both absolutely love this place, the food is consistently good. Very quick service and always with a smile.

Where's the Pork?. After seeing the high review on Urbanspoon, we were excited to try Trang's. Wish we had read the reviews prior to dining, as the positive comments are related to the Vietnamese food only. Had the steamed pork dim sims for starter, a staple in most Chinese restaurants, and they were all carrot and no Pork. If there was pork in the dim sims it was so over processed that they tasted like doughy carrot balls. Despite having a small bite before sending back, the manager refused to remove them from the bill. If they can't get Dim Sims right, I don't hold out much hope for the rest of the menu.

GREAT PHO, FAST, FRIENDLY SERVICE. Best Vietnamese restaurant in town.
Steve Brimblecombe
Exceeded my expectations.. I have been here many times over the years and it is always good. However this time the food was exceptional. We had the Vietnamese coffee which is uniformly good in most Vietnamese restaurants and did not disappoint. We shared a sweet and sour chicken dish and the fish hotpot which are poles apart in preparation and style but were both delicious and beautifully cooked. Based on this experience I will be back more often.

Trang - West End, Brisbane. Trang is a place that is well known and revered amongst many denizens in Brisbane. It could arguably be the most popular and well known Vietnamese restaurant within the whole town. This place has survived many years in West End on Hardgrave Road. One weekend, my dining buddy was suggesting Vietnamese and there were a couple of options he was considering; after weighing them all up, I did note that this place was in the top 20 on Brisbane's Urbanspoon page - period. With that being the deciding factor, it was off to here. <br/><br/>Here is the real kicker when trying all sorts of restaurants. New is a relative term, and if you have not tried or seen something before - no matter how long it has been existing for - then to you it is more or less able to be considered new. Some places you would have heard about constantly and just have never gotten around to trying, especially when you have been meaning to from how good they are. This does sometimes lead from slight to major disappointment. <br/><br/>After all the hype that I heard about Trang, ultimately it was as every bit as good as I could hope for. How could it not be? When I went here with my dining buddy, the whole place was packed and pumping. Wait staff were constantly busy, which did not stop them from doing a great and attentive job. Whatever business model they are utilising, I will say that they should continue with it as it gets heaps of output and more great reception. <br/><br/>The biggest gripe about the place is that no human stomach could fit so much in, and there is a wide range of choices which is putting it mildly. You could come here several times a day for years and it would take a long time to get through all the choices. Most of the selection is Chinese, and if you are feeling more towards the Vietnamese options the selection is not as vast therefore not as daunting to make a selection. And to think I have not mentioned the size of the servings, they are massive. <br/><br/>This is no fine dining establishment, but why should it be? It does well enough with what it is, and with all the lauding it got - and this has had a truckload of it overtime - it proudly wore all of it on its sleeve; if it has done well enough, it deserves to do so. So many tables are put in, and somehow it does not yet feel like you are literally rubbing shoulders with other clients. When the food is this good, that should not matter in the least particularly when they are going for a homely, family friendly feel. The best and most important part is that the meals are freshly prepared and cooked to order; they are out very fast, so jot this down as a casual meeting place for a work lunch. <br/><br/>To begin, some Vietnamese iced coffees were ordered. These were the traditional kind, where a small glass of condensed milk was served with the coffee slowly dripping out of a filter placed on top. For a few minutes, these were left to finish before mixing them around with a spoon. As well, a glass filled with ice (hence the iced coffee) was put alongside it for the mixture to be poured in. These were pretty good, refreshing and sweet with the flavours of coffee coming from underneath. <br/><br/>One way I often utilise a way to decide what to order is by what the place is renowned for or by a specialties section on the menu. Trang has a small selection of that on their menu of about half a dozen different items. From these, I went with what was basically called "Vietnamese fish hot pot". The waiter was giving a couple of warnings, and from what I could deduce the fish was basted in fish sauce and had a lot of bones in it; this did not stop me, as give me a cut of meat and I will gnaw around the bones if need be. <br/><br/>Call it old fashioned, call it common, call it "traditional". Nevertheless, my dining buddy went for a sweet and sour pork. On a whim, I decided an entree would be nice. My dining buddy was fine with whatever was going to be ordered, and for something very different I went with the salt and pepper quail. All of this was served with a generous portion of steamed rice. There is less you can say about steamed rice than you can internalise how good a good steamed rice is when cooked. This was one of those times, fantastic notes of flavour and a brilliant side for any Chinese/Vietnamese dish. <br/><br/>All three dishes ordered were nothing short of brilliant. Starting with where the meal started, the quail was served in halves - one each. It had a garnish of onion on the side. From the sounds of it, salt and pepper are about as basic as it gets for seasonings; certainly close to every recipe will have those items mentioned to finish off cooking a meal. Without prior knowledge, who would have thought the combination would make a slightly tangy, somewhat spicy flavour? It works so well with squid, so why not other meats? The little bird was served with the skin on, allowing the flavours to be infused even more into the flesh. The meat was tender and delicious, just mind all the bones. <br/><br/>He has had plenty of dishes of sweet and sour pork in his life, so to say that this place does the best version of that dish is probably saying a lot. It was well battered, the sauce was an equilibrium of both titular tastes and the meat was not ignored. There is not all that much more that can be said about the dish, they did it correctly. <br/><br/>What was the highlight of the meal was the Vietnamese fish hot pot. This was a good cut of fish, one that would not appeal to those not familiar with fish. It had a deep flavour, with the sauce infused into the flesh and skin. It came served in a ramekin dish. In this case, it could be another one that is impossible to describe why it tasted so good and requires an actual sampling to see what makes it so tasty. Great fish, soft and tender. All the bones, skin and fat give it all the character it needs. <br/><br/>According to my dining buddy, this place is just as good as it was some years back and from those years back it was just as good as the same number of years. This is apparently pretty authentic as far as Vietnamese fare goes. I will take word of that, not being all that knowledgeable on the cuisine but gradually coming around to it. For what I can say, going to Trang was worth it. Hopefully it maintains its place for some time to come. It may be both a blessing and a curse that I do not live within walking distance to here. Curse, it takes some time to get to and blessing, I would be here almost weekly to sample all their delights. That is something to say about this well-known establishment. For once, the hype was justified.

Trang is more than a restaurant, it's our second home. I've been to Trang for nearly 2 years and never regret to say it's always my best restaurant. I can see that in the ways we're served, Trang is really busy at night but staff are extremely responsible and treat customer in such a beautiful way. They care what we need, they have suggestion for us if we have many choices to choose from or if that dishes have strong flavour for first time tasting. Nothing to say more, Trang is the best

Really Disappointing. We decided tonight to try a Vietnamese meal and headed to Trang in West End on the strength of its rating and reviews on Urbanspoon. We were greeted by a friendly waitress at the door of a bright restaurant with signs proclaiming it winning an award in 2012 for being the best Vietnamese restaurant in Queensland.<br/><br/>For an entre we ordered grilled pork and prawn rice paper rolls, which were very good, steamed dim sims which were O.K. and chicken satay skewers which were poor - deep fried slices of chicken on sticks covered in brown goop bearing no resemblance to satay sauce with some peanuts sprinkled on them. For the mains, my son ordered rice paper wrapped duck which he really enjoyed. <br/><br/>My wife and I decided to share a hot and spicy seafood combination hot pot which was tragic. It was neither hot nor spicy. The seafood comprised some tasteless factory prawns, some slices of rubbery squid and cut-up pieces of a mass produced fish cake instead of fish. The fishcake was not made on the premises so who nows where it fitted in the food chain. There were a few thin slices of beef that were only chewable because they were so thin. The vegetables comprised a few bits of sliced celery, a tomato cut into segments, some bean sprouts and a sprig of coriander. Hardly traditional and not cheap. I would be embarrassed to serve this to someone anywhere, let alone in the best Vietnamese restaurant in Queensland.<br/><br/>The service was good until they took our order. There were lots of staff present, but most seemed more interested in making tea behind the counter and chatting amongst themselves than attending to diners.<br/><br/>Trang is definitely not making our list of restaurants to revisit.

Long time favourite. My family eats here once a week. Fab food and quick service. Good variety and portion size.<br/>Great prices as well.

Great service, great foods. I went there on Tuesday night which I though it would not have many people. However, this place was full of customer. One guys came out with big smile and directed us to our table with menu and water. The other waiter suggested us some dishes summer roll, grilled pork salad which were fantastic. We will come back again.

Good cheap and cheerful Vietnamese! Liked the san choi bow, spring rolls, lemongrass beef summer rolls and BYO. Nit a fan of satay chicken skewers, the sauce was thin and watery. Great service though, helpful and quick. Will be back :)

Should have been a sign when I got to the Trang and couldn't spot any Asians dining there. Sorry, but that's indicative of how authentic an Asian restaurant is. Unsurprising, I was underwhelmed by the beef pho. Loved that there was a choice between lean and fatty brisket and the meat was very tender. However the soup lacked flavour, it needed more depth and a stronger element of five spice. Service was all over the place. The middle-aged Viet lady who managed front of the house was unwelcoming when we stepped into the restaurant to look for a table and she re-directed us outside to stand and wait. Not a great first impression and whilst I don't generally expect good service at Asian restaurants, I do if they are catering to westerners (which they clearly were). We waited at least 10 minutes AFTER we closed our menus to be served. In fact, the waiter went to serve the table next to us first and they literally had just been handed their menus. Our drinks had to be followed up, it was brought out after hubby finished his pho, waitress just left it on the table - no apology no nothing. This could all be forgiven if the pho was good - but it's not that great. My Pho Bar and Pho 99 are much better.

Great food and nice service made my day. Big fan of pho. Always love to try Vietnamese everywhere, especially pho. The food is very fresh here, we ordered the prawn rice paper roll and it made by plenty of prawn instead of bunch of half prawn that I ate some other Vietnamese restaurant. Crispy chicken skin with the dipping sauce is great match, my partner loved so much. And finally, lean beef brisket pho was absolutely great, I like to sip the soup before putting other ingredients such as basil, shoot or chil. Trang is 100% quality restaurant whether you are with family or friends. And not mention that it's a byo restaurant. So tell me what else is left that make you should not eat there?

YUM YUM YUM. What more could you want on a Monday night....speedy service, great efficient staff, atmosphere and a full belly....including entree, mains and drinks for two people = $30.

My husband and I have been coming to Trang for the past 7+ years. We usually order the same thing Salt & Pepper Calamari to start followed by Wonton soup with egg noodle and extra veg for him and Rare Beef soup for her. We love that everytime we come the food is always the same...... tasty yummy and consistent in quality. The value for money is great the service always so pleasent. We love that we can bring our wine and have a great satisfying meal every time.We love Trangs and hope they will always be around so we can keep coming every month until we are too old to do so. The decor has changed but the food is still the same along with the family run atmosphere.
ACM
Food is ok, service is poor. I used to have take out here, but after the umpteenth time of not being to able to order this that or the other (say you want 5 spring rolls instead of the serve that comes in 2s - you can only get 4 or 6, the sauce with it can only be so much and nothing else etc) and the girl on the phone essentially not able to take your order without getting it wrong multiple times I have given up. I even tried to politely point out that there might be a problem - no success. I was told off - essentially what I was saying was incorrect according to the girl at the reception. There are other good Vietnamese restaurants in West End, they are friendly and serve you without problem (or so I found).

Delightful and Delicious. I love this place, I can't count how many times I have been! <br/><br/>The salt and pepper quail is amazing, not to mention the spring roll vermicelli salad. Service is amazing and the new renovations give the place a more modern feel. I'll never stop coming here!

Great Value. I have never been to a restaurant with such great value for money meals not to mention great service and hardly a wait at all on our meals! I highly recommend the rice paper rolls and the rare beef noodle soup. I have brought my boyfriend here multiple times as well as my parents and friends. I have never had a bad experience.

Tasty, cheap, quick. Arrived early after work for a quick feed. Service was great.<br/><br/>Ordered the mixed entrée and lean beef brisket noodle soup - not an awful lot of flavour but was still big and enjoyable! <br/><br/>Overall would recommend for a cheap night out and BYO too.

Yuck! We had a terrible, overpriced meal here on a busy Sunday night. Can't figure out why this place is so popular. We won't be back.
JRG
No soap or towels in the bathroom. No excuse for that - won't be back.

We had a bad time tonight. The meal tasted as though it was cooked in burnt oil and we found a piece of steel wool in the noodles. We mentioned it to the waiter and received a 10% discount.
Michael
Mr Bell. This is the best Vietnamese and Chinese in Brisbane. The Wonton Noodle soup is second to none. Also, my kids live for the Lemon Chicken. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. However sometimes the language barrier can be a bit trying. We go there at least once per week

Chicken Salad Lacked flavo.... Chicken Salad <br/>Lacked flavour <br/>Dressing tasted like soap<br/>Poor service

Poor service & food. I was so disappointed with the poor customer service at Trang restaurant. The staff was extremely rude when I made the payment by Eftpos. She accused me of slowing down the transaction. Although I tried to ignore what she said, she kept on saying like, "Only your card has the problem!". I was quite angry about her rudeness. After that, I told her that I would not come back again and she said, "That's fine."<br/>After this terrible visit, I don't think I would take my family and my friends to come to this restaurant anymore.
DiningDiva
7/10. I've heard amazing things about this place but I can't help but like the pho at Quan Thanh better. In saying that, their pho is still good, but each to their own I guess. Quail is great but I've had more flavoursome wonton soup at other places. Staff are super warm and friendly though.
Juliess
Fast and good service. Rice paper rolls and lemon sole are amazing. We get takeaway or go there once a week a must for good vietnamese

Trang is the best!!! I love the grilled pork rice paper wraps, favorite dish in brisbane!

Trang is great. Trang is fantastic, one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in brisbane. A west end institution!

Mmm chicken laksa. Great experience at Trangs. Chicken laksa was delicious!

Excellent!. The special beef noodles soup is beautifully done, the pork chop rice is also very nice. The atmosphere is comfy and the waiting time is reasonable. Highly recommended! I will definitely come back! :)

Great food and friendly service. Trang Restaurant is one of the litte Gems to be found in West End. Great variety of food, good flavours and lovely staff. Perfect for a quick lunch of dinner as the food arrives in minutes. I will definitely be back.

LocalYokal. Just finished dining at Trang restaurant tonight and the food was excellent.<br/>A Sunday night, pissing down rain and the restaurant is still full with a steady flow of diners...this says something. Especially when you can hear tumble weed blowing through with the emptiness of others on the same street.<br/>$60.00 for 2 people, four dishes and people complain about the price...you have got to be kidding. <br/>Highly recommended, excellent food. This place gets busy and I mean busy which is another good sign. Don't rock up on a busy night and expect the red carpet then complain about the service.<br/>They seemed to make every effort to be as considerate as possible to make it an enjoyable evening. Being a 'a'-hole diner does not do you any favours anywhere. <br/>Trang is Bang for your Buck!

Hi I found Trangs restaurant resonating a warm and friendly service, coupled with great food, at reasonable prices, it offers something for everyone, from authentic Vietnamese/Chinese cuisine, to delicious deserts. A great place for the whole family to enjoy. Definitely a place I will come back to.

Popped in for a quick lunch the other day, all I can say was great food, great service and we will definitely be back again soon!

Really?. Last night was a special night for my husband and I. We rarely have an opportunity to get a break together and having heard so much about Trang we were happy to drive an hour to get a table. a delightful young girl settled us and welcomed us. That was the extent of what should have been an enjoyable evening. Firstly, my meal was half finished before wait staff asked my husband what he had ordered and went to fetch it. My crispy skin chicken rice was disappointing. Expecting moist chicken and fluffy rice I got dry chicken and rice that had lost its moisture - even had a hardish exterior. My husband adores soft shell crab...when he did get his meal it was so heavy with oil that he felt uncomfortable for hours following the meal. Everyone has a bad experience sometimes. We get that. On upon paying the bill the person asked how our meals were. My husband explained our disappointment. The person then called the floor manager (we think) who asked my husband to repeat his experiences. It was this person's response that was most disappointing. Instead of graciously listening and responding to what was our experience. Her reaction was more along the lines of surprise that anyone could be anything but thrilled with the food, and that our experience can't possibly be right. We are very reasonable people, and when a restaurant asks 'how was your meal?'we would hope that they are sincere in wanting to know what a patron experiences and not defensive when things don't go to plan.
Minh Le
Great place to meet friends to enjoy dinner or lunch. The restaurant is going through some minor cosmetic change to look for pleasing on the eye, and with the new ordering system and menus provided, the service is definitely improving to a high standard. Food has always been great, and now with the service being much more efficient, what more can you ask for?
Tash Dasios
Always amazing! Quick, cheap and super tasty. Strongly recommend wonton noodle soup, or Vietnamese pork vermicelli salad
Steven Lee
Great food but price has gone up a lot ! <br/>need noodle soup is now $13!
Gradelle
Its okay.... Tried this couple of times since it gets so busy but have found the food here just okay... It is definitely not bad but it is not outstanding either. You need to book especially on a weekend as this gets super busy. Unfortunately I think there are other viet restaurants in that same street that is better than Trang.
Kate
Delish. Cheap and tasty food! The vegetable dishes with tofu and crispy noodles are amazing. The rice paper rolls are pretty good too.
Ben.farmer
Awesome Food all the time !!!. Whenever I go to Trangs for lunch ( which is pretty much once a week), the food is always fantastic, the service swift and very friendly and the price and value for money is great. Even when its really busy the food arrives super quick !!!

Below Average Day. Coming on a public holiday, they were super busy which disappointingly meant we felt the service and food was below average.<br/><br/>My husband usually never comments on food (he just eats it) but he felt compelled to tell me that his vermicelli salad just wasn't that tasty. It kinda went downhill from there. People were almost finished at our table before others got their food. We were having a meeting, which meant its important for all of us to communicate - but 2 people had to sit side by side by themselves on joined table...while I understand they needed the area for access, it made it hard for us to communicate.<br/><br/>I am pregnant, so I asked for cooked bean sprouts (since I can't have raw), which is pretty normal to ask for at Vietnamese places. They said they were too busy so couldn't do it. So my dry noodle just lacked texture and it wasn't very tasty. The pork chop was a bit cool and bit blacker than normal. Water wasn't refilled. <br/>Maybe we've just a lot of awesome Vietnamese in Cabra and Inala but I didn't really go expecting that standard, just the bare minimum. The amount of non-Viet/Asians in there also probably just indicates that its pretty overrated.<br/><br/>Sure they were super busy, but in the end as the consumer, we felt we had to lose out. Disappointed.
Krystle Lee
Good food. They have good cheap food here, if I was looking for good Vietnamese food located near the CBD, I would go here. I usually order the combination pho, and I've tried a couple of their other dishes which were also good. They have a massive menu, so good luck on trying to pick something from the menu.
Ange17
Isnt the same Trangs as it used to be.... Trangs hasnt been the same since new owners took over. The food is still fresh and ok, but not as special and super tasty as it used to be when it won all those good food awards. It used to be 9 or 10 out of 10. Now, 6 or 7 out of 10.
The Western Wanderers
We are regulars at Trang and recommend the pho, salt n pepper calamari, and the pork chops are the best in town. Stick to the chef specials and don't expect a fine dining experience, and you will love it.

Never disappoints. If you love Vietnamese, then look no further. This restaurant isn't really asthetically pleasing, however, upon tasting their dishes, you will be craving more. <br/><br/>The staff are very helpful and friendly. One particular lady always has a smile on her face, and it can only make you smile back.<br/><br/>Overall, great value for money and the quality and taste of the food makes you want to become a regular.
Syna
There's nothing really special here. It's not great but it's not bad either.
John
Excellent value and really great yummy food
Dan Badd
Trang is my 2nd favourite Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane. You'll find better value in Sunnybank & Darra but for those living near the CBD or on the northside, Trang in West End is the pho central.
Sassyspirit
Mediocre food. This was our 1st time here & we were quite disappointed in the quality of the food. It was a busy night but the service was great and the staff were very friendly. As stated in previous reviews it was rowdy and the meals were cheap but we were not at all impressed with the meals. We will not be returning or recommending this place. Personally we'd rather pay more to get great food,
NomNom86
Fantastic place for Vietnamese! If you want to dine in, it's best to book ahead. It's a bit noisy, but it's a friendly, relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a tasty, inexpensive meal. Try the wantons and rice paper rolls for entrees :)
Wilkinsm
Tastes the same if not better. Friendly quick service. I have been eating here for years. Although they have changed ownership the Pho, Crispy Skin Chicken & Combination Pork Chop with Rice tastes the same if not better - delicious & fresh.
SS
Delicious quail entree. Food is fresh and tasty. Waitress Diane is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Would recommend

Used to come here every week, slowly been going down hill. Won't be back after tonight's meal. Chicken very dry. Portion sizes diminishing. Very bland meal. Bring back Mr Trang!!
Sepp
Pho!. To be honest, I have never had anything but one of the soups, but if you are after a mega-bowl of piping hot noodles with a gazillion of condiments, can't go wrong!
Keisuke Yasukochi
Went downhill. I regularly used to go to Trang every week but since the new owner has taken over from the old friendly owners, the food doesn't taste the same and extremely bad services from the new staff. Wouldn't go back until the old owner's come back, if it happens.
Angelina Tang
I love the food, so I have been a regular customer for a while. However I am very disappointed (again) today for the bad services to the extent that I have to write this review. I requested to be seated at the upstair (which was open and downstairs was so full with only a small table vacant at that time) but the staff rudely rejected and threw two menus on a nearby table and simply walked away. I have also noticed that some staffs couldn't speak ( and comprehend) basic English, and they started to mess up orders. Services used to be good, I wonder what is causing the change. Probably they need an assessment on services to keep it up to the level, like how the award pressures them to (somehow, to a minimal extent at least) maintain the quality of their food.
Homerofbrisbane
Proper Vietnamese. We had the Pho and broken rice as takeaways and they were delicious even when we got home after 20 minutes. Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu.
Michael Henry
Tried this resturant for the first time Saturday night due to the good reviews found on urban spoon. The past couple of reviews indicated that the food wasn't as good as in the past but happily we were blown away by the quality and taste ! The Pho was delicious with tender beef pieces, noodles and yummy broth. The beef rice paper rolls were huge (eight in a serving) and beautifully made and absolutely delicious. We all also had fried wontons which were fine. We finished off with a deep fried banana fritter and icecream which were good. The only weak dish was the fried rice, which was average. Prices were very affordable (about $12-$18 for a main). Oh and we also had home made ice tea and young coconut drinks, very nice! Definitely will be back!! Service was efficient & friendly too.
Julian
So Good!!. This is easily the best place to get a feed in Westend.<br/><br/>The Pho is the best I have had anywhere in the world. Its in my top 3 favourite meals.<br/><br/>Its BYO, the staff are super friendly, its nice and cheap but the food is what will bring you back. ITS AMAZING!!!!<br/><br/>Good spot for a large groups also
Twatkins_223
Cheap and cheerful. Title says it all - ALWAYS a good feed and value for money here. <br/>New dining room upstairs is good too.
Latoya Phan
Super great value! A++. Great place to go to for a quick, cheap, beautiful meal. The place was packed so we were expecting a delay with our food, but surprisingly, not much of a wait at all. I had the beef noodle soup and it was a perfect choice on these rainy days. My husband had his usual rice paper rolls and they once again were very impressive with what you get on that plate.<br/>Its definitely one of our regular hang out spots being such great value and taste. Asian food at its best.
Lexy
Disappointing Vietnamese, completely tasteless. If you want good Vietnamese go to market square in sunnybank where you will find the restaurants packed with Asian people, a good measure of how good it is there!<br/>Had salt & pepper calamari that had no salt or pepper, the Chinese meals are filled out with loads of onion, simple Vietnamese noodle dishes lacked flavour. Service was also incredibly slow, waited over an hour for our meals!
Hai Huynh
The food was great, fast services and friend staffs
Andrea Marshall
Cheap eats. This place is great if you're after a cheap eat with cheap drinks (ie bring your own beer). Don't expect good service, they'll shuffle you in and out very quickly. The food is better than what you're paying for though - just keep in mind that this is not fine dining and go with it.
Denise Chau
Never ever coming back!! •.... Never ever coming back!! <br/>• Bad service - food came EXTREMELY late, even for a simple omelette <br/>• Bad food - the chicken was dry, the fish was soaked in oil, tofu in stir fry was sour (a bit off)<br/>• Did not clear away dishes as we finished them, so there were piles of dirty dishes on our table as we were eating<br/><br/>All in all, a horrible restaurant that offers terrible food and disappointing service.<br/><br/>*I am a tourist from Melbourne and was sorely disappointed; my night was ruined
Emily May
Service was poor (asked for water for the table and had to ask two different waiters who both forgot). In my opinion the food wasn't at a very high standard either. However it was very busy and seemed popular, so perhaps we didn't order the right things. I liked the layout of the restaurant, with the tables going out onto the footpath, and the busy vibe. Due to my very average meal however, I wouldn't recommend it.
Princelysum
Disappointed this time round. One meal forgotten. Others completed befor the rest served. Steamed dim sims, satay chicken and pork chop dry. <br/>Still the relaxed happy Trangs vibe but doesn't kick a goal tonight.
Liz
I love this place , great food , fast & a great little hidden gem
Dot
Reserved a table and firstly they couldn't find booking. Table wasn't ready & so were asked to wait 5 mins so went to bottle shop & came back & then we had to go over whole process again as they forgot who we were in the space of five minutes. Staff were rushing around & everyone was bumping into one another. My seafood noodle soup finally came out at least 10 mins after my friend got her meal. The small amount of seafood I got was overcooked & felt like rubber. Even the noodles were chewy. Very disappointed as we had high expectations from great reviews & the fact the restaurant was packed. At least it was cheap but won't be going back.
Fat Starfish
Don't judge a book by its cover. Trangs is one of those gems that all the locals know about. Pork chop, salt and pepper calamari, noodle soup and crispy noodles are our favourites. And don't forget to BYOB!
Paul Lange
Great Pho, fast service budget price I love it
Sapphira Toh
Above average. Decent combination pork chop rice, but a bit on the pricey side for Vietnamese food.
Bubbles
Love this place. Best rice paper rolls in town! Consistently great food.
Sharleen Sticklen
Great dishes and always great service for a really good price
Melly
Vietnamese rice paper rolls and pho soup are tasty. A bit pricier than what you pay out at sunnybank or Inala however.
Timothy
DELICOUS. If you're feeling like chinese/vietnamese, this is the restaurant to be at!! great authentic asian food, my favourite dish would have to be the soft shell crab which is INCREDIBLY hard to find this good in Brisbane. <br/><br/>overall this is a great place to eat at for a very very cheap price.<br/><br/>food: 9/10<br/>service: 9/10<br/>price: unbelievably cheap/10
Aiglatson
"yumm" and happy they were open. They were closed during xmas, but so happy they are open again from today. Wanted to get my vietnamese dripping coffee & pho fix :D<br/><br/>Don't know if many people know but they are now open upstairs. Should look pretty nice at night with views of the city.<br/><br/>Thanks Trang!

Noodles too long but yummy

Been coming here for years. Feel that the standard has dropped.
Bruce
I've been going here for years and it never fails to provide me with a contented tummy. It's always good.
Benny
Ever since the new owners took over Trang a few months ago, the quality of the food has definitely gone down...
HungryRoger
I love this place. could eat here everyday. Great menu great prices. Can spend under 15 and be totaly satisfied. Make sure u book.
Linda
Trang is a decent viet cuisine near the city. To experience the best Vietnamese food you have to go out to inala. But Trang restaurant is not bad.
Kenneth Chun
Delicious!!. Simply yumm!!! authentic vietnamese food!!! i drive all the way from gc just to have their pho and self wrap prawn rolls!!
Gaucho
Great Beef Pho. The beef pho with vermicelli noodles is fantastic. The service could do with a little improvement, however. All in all, a great value for money.
Villie
New management time will tell. One of my fav's however it is on notice the last soup wasn't up to the traditional standard different beef I think maybe? overly oily broth I hope the new owners aren't gilding the lilly!
Juan Rodriguez
It's always beyond packed. That's generally a good sign - it's the busiest restaurant on the Hardgrave Road strip. Love the food, service is quick....just get in early or you'll be waiting in a huge queue like the rest!
Tanya
My fave Viet place. I will travel across town for Trang's food. I love their bun dishes and deep fried wontons. Keep up the great work, guys!
Brisdandaniel
Use to be great!. Been coming here for years - consistently great food, great value and fabulous service however since there have been new owners or change of management the quality of the food is not the same. Have returned a few times to see if things improved however still not the old Trang.
Steve N
Ok Vietnamese. Quite cheap for a city restaurant but still a bit more than normal Vietnamese food. Food is pretty good, not as good as the more traditional places in Inala or Sunnybank but will do the job when you're too lazy to venture out that far.
Anna
I love this place. I go here quite often and never dissapoints . Its relaxed, friendly and can always count on good food and fast service. My fav is the beef salad
-
Trang was good but not the best place I've been too. Spring rolls were great and satay chicken meal was very fresh and not oily which is how I like it. However is was lacking in satay favour. I would return if others are going but probably wouldn't suggest it over others.
Michelle Leong
Beef noodle soup!!!!
Kladam
MARRY ME TRANG!. Trangs has got to be one of the best restaurants in brisbane! It may not be super posh but it makes up for it on taste, service, atmosphere and value. The food is always fresh and delicious and the menu goes foreverrrrr so you can always try something new. Im a fan of the ever famous Pho soup and trangs never fails to deliver my favourite meal served to perfection and getting my tastebuds dancing. Thank you trangs for blessing west end with your beautiful food- I Love you and i think its safe to say WE ALL LOVE YOU!!
SN
Simple, cheap, and tasty!. I love going here for quick and casual meals. The place is always busy so I know the ingredients are fresh. Have tried a lot of the menu, but now keep returning for the beef pho and the vercimilli salad (esp. with grilled pork). The staff are busy but friendly.
Miss Munchy
A little bland...We have spent a lot of time in Vietnam and the Pho was not up to standard nor was the lemongrass and chilli chicken which had no punch... Perhaps dulled down for western palate but I think they need to embrace that whiteys like it spicy too! Not bad Vietnamese but not great, think the Pho at Pho Hung Sunnybank kicks its arse!
Kaye-Ann Neighbour
Best pho!. They have the best pho in Brisbane undoubtedly ! Great family run business
AustraliaRealEstate.mobi
Vegos can do better elsewhere.. My title says it all. The only thing I can see going for this place is its cheap.<br/>The food seemed very average to me and for vegetarians there was a disappointinly small amount of offerings.<br/>What is it with Asian restaurants in Australia, do they forget their vegetable ROOTS?<br/>Service: 5/10. Food: 5/10. Value: 8/10.
Lucy
Awesome authentic viet food and so good for value..
Miraiy
Very disappointed. I'm a regular, and used to come to Trang once a week. <br/>I went there today for lunch in a group of 4. We ordered the spicy beef pho, special beef pho, and a normal pho. <br/>I have to say the quality of the soup has gone down so much...it wasn't tasty at all, the spicy pho taste like water with salt and chilli, the pork slices were thick and fatty, the pork sausage tasted like it's off.<br/>I guess we will start visiting next door from now on, go just go to Inala for pho.<br/><br/><br/>-----14 May, 2012-----<br/><br/>Pork chop or Pho. Never wrong to order either the Pho or the pork chop, so yummy!
Jaytee
Caterpillar in soup. The best pho suited for westerners. I'm a regular to this place as it had the best pho in inner city Brisbane. Generous portions at an affordable price. However, I found a dead caterpillar in my soup which most likely came from the mint leaves which has put me off this place permanently.
Anne-Louise Nichols
I've been going to Trang for about 10 years and it's always awesome :)
Luv2eat
Always good!. I can always expect a good meal here. Good place to catchup with friends!
Simon
Been here a few times over the years and always found the service fast and efficient and the food consistent and reliable. Last weekend we enjoyed dinner here. I have had better Chicken Pho both in Melbourne and Vietnam, but having said that I have also had worse. Just didn't quite seem to have a deep intense broth flavour. The vermicelli salad was a hit with others, sugar cane prawns and beef version both raved about. We also had a serve of pork and prawn rolls and tasted great. Meal for 3 at $43 including corkage. Good price and ideal for a speedy feed.
Bugsy Malone
Pretty Good. Fast service, friendly family atmosphere and good value. Not the best Vietnamese food I've had, but still a good meal when you are down at West End.
Motto_Coffee
It is OK. My Vietnamese friend loves this place, but I cannot find anything special about the place other than the extensive range of home-made style meals. They give you a good introduction to Vietnamese food though.
Yann Pastor
Disappointing. Unfortunately I didn't find this place special. Food was bland at best.
Damien McKeering
Stupendous cuisine at fabulous prices.
Nina Will Eat
Took my mum here to try out the vietnamese food. Being viet ourselves, we are tough critics. Beef pho is not anythig special - you can get better in Inala and the one in Sunnybank Hills - Pho Saigon is the absolute closest you'll get to Vietnam (quotes my mum who visits vietnam every year). Trangs rice paper rolls were amazing though, tye meat was carefully grilled. Salt and pepper quail was crispy, slightly bland but with some salt/ pepper/lemon its perfect. Overall 7/10 vietfood. I do not recommend any of their soup based items though.
Jodie Macaulay
Addicted. The best pho....i can eat it every day. Better than qt's! Yet to try the Vietnamese in Inala...though.<br/><br/>They say the pho here is better than what you would find in Vietnam ( this i have heard from Vietnamese) as they out more beef and bones in the stock.
Ana
Not happy!. We ordered mae poh and spring rolls. spring rolls were frozen prob had been for months and tasted like cardboard. the mae poh was just awful. a tonne of sugary sauce dumped on the tofu and veges. my partner a non vietnamese makes a delicious version. bathrooms had no soap. restaurant did not feel clean. we left after eating 2 bites of our dishes. will never go back. if you care about cheap prices and nothing else then head here.

Feb 2018<br/><br/>Eight diners allegedly suffered salmonella poisoning after eating at the restaurant ate there on February 24, 28 and March 1, 2017.<br/><br/>Update mid 2016<br/><br/>Have been again a few times since last review and quality appears to have declined. <br/><br/>Pre 2013<br/><br/>Still great!. Beef n ball Pho - full flavoured savoury soup, firm beef balls (meatball, not cojones!). Wish there was more sliced beef... <br/><br/>Crispy skin chicken - a little on the dry side but the skin had a great crunch and the dipping sauce was a mouthwatering accompaniment. <br/><br/>Trang's is still a great (and 'cost-effective') place to eat!
BrisFoodie
Great value and flavour. Menu is very well priced and the Pho is one of the better offerings in the CBD area. <br/>Service was very good considering how busy it gets on weekends.
Nev
I love it. The majority of people who complain about Trang's being ordinary seem to be vietnamese. Maybe Trang's isn't as good as authentic pho made by a market seller on the streets of Vietnam, but for Brisbane its good. Its been voted the best vietnamese restaurant in QLD for a reason. I like that the price is good too, $10.50 for a massive bowl when they could easily be charging more. I always get the pho, which is great. I like that they actually use asian basil instead of mint leaves (yuk) like other places. I could eat here every day just for that soup. If you don't want to book ahead try to get there before 6pm. The inside can get very noise, usually we just eat our soup and leave. I feel sorry for the wait staff, though it must get very hectic working there, and the tables are so crammed together.
SB
Yum Yum Trang. The service at Trang is great, the pho (upsized) is so yummy and cheap, I think the pho at Viet Hoa is better though.<br/><br/>If you're going to go - ABSOLUTELY BOOK AHEAD unless you want to wait in line on a busy night.
Derek Chew
Just ok. I personally think the pho is average. Beefy flavour, but not much else. I prefer mine with a more complex flavour. At least they don't overdose it with MSG. If you couldn't be bothered travelling to Darra, Inala or Sunnybank in search of better pho, or don't know a friend who is a good Vietnamese home cook...then it'll have to do.
Bullet
Visited trang's last sunday. Excellent wonton noodle soup & prawn rice paper rolls. One of the best meals i've had in ages, affordable, delicious & efficient service. A great find close to the city centre.
Yohann Wadriako
Very good.
Viet Baby
What was the fuzz?. Read all the postive reviews about Trang so decided to give mom a rest last week, we went to Trang high with anticipation. I was so disappointed. The beef pho soup I had was loaded with MSG I had a stiff neck the whole day. My mom had the pork chops with rice and said with was ordinary. As a Vietnamese, I probably have high expectation but really, for me this place just doesn't cut it. Guess my mom just has to keep cooking...
Countrylover
Not good for functions. This is usually a good place to go for reasonable food price and service. However I had a horrific experience there on my birthday this year - hence the reason I felt compelled to write this review. I booked for 32 people but then only 28 showed up. They were terribly rude about this. I could understand they were disappointed they didn't get the extra four people - as was I - it was my birthday. The wait staff gave me dirty looks all night as punishment for me not delivering the numbers I had booked. They actually said at the time of booking they could not accept more than 32. Therefore I didn't invite any extras - as I might have normally just told anyone to come along or bring friends and the numbers would have worked out.<br/>Everyone ate a lot ordering several courses and drinks, yet I was still subject to a great deal of negativity from the staff and it really spoiled my birthday.<br/>I had a successful birthday party there the year before. However I will never eat there again. The way they made me feel for an issue outside of my control (the four people unable to attend) was very nasty and unprofessional. I would not book there if you want to have a stress free function.
Deano's Digest
It's becoming a Sunday tradition of mine to pick myself up off the couch and tackle the crowds (and boy is there crowds) at Trang. And I wouldn't do it if it wasn't worth it. I'm slowly making my way through the menu, and am yet to be disappointed. Fantastic Pho, giant mussels, fresh and tasty 'make your own' rice paper rolls - it is all good and the crowds really just add to the experience. They will do anything to find a way to accommodate you.
Phil Thee
Re-review! I used to eat here twice-weekly. New owners have taken over & I am gradually finding new & better places. Cleanliness has become ordinary & doesn't seem priority. Staff can't speak Badic English. Owners come across rude. Signature Pho has become average. Reconsider & look at alternatives from now on.<br/><br/><br/>-----23 Mar, 2011-----<br/><br/>Best Pho Bo in Brisbane. Rice paper wraps exquisite & Chicken Vermicelli salad second to none. Service us great & extremely fast. Must visit for Vietnamese food.
JMCD
Crap. Basically, if I wanted offal, or beef that was 90% fat and 10% meat, I would've asked for it. I should've taken a photo.
QQ
OMG. It's been a long long time I haven't been there ... I love their pork chop with broken rice and fried egg !!!
Ballerina
The Best !. You can be forgiven for thinking you're in Vietnam.<br/>Wonderful food !<br/>Almost everyone you comes for lunch or dinner as been there more than once or twice.<br/>Lovely caring friendly staff and an owner who knows how to run a resturant well.
DT_Sanchez
Fantastic Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine at cheap cheap prices. Good sized serves always has me walking away feeling satisfied. The duck pho is my new favourite and I am a sucker for the red bean with coconut milk drink. Really recommend to book most nights as the place bubbles along with people waiting for tables at the door and the usual flow of take aways.
Kessler
Possibly best viet in Brisbane. Fantasic Pho, especially the one with the fatty beef. Excellent viet salads (bun). Make sure u order a viet ice coffee with your meal, beautifully strong and sweet. Prices remain on the low side which is great
Stormy69
Top Choice. Stopped off to have lunch the other at day Trang and it was just great. On a hot, humid Brisbane day, sat inside with the air-conditioning (there are some alfresco seats) and at 12:15 on a Monday was already bustling. Got seated & served straight away, very pleasant staff. Ordered the recommended Rare Beef Pho (soup) and it was spot on. As other people may have commented, the Broth alone is worth it! Saw other meals coming out and they all looked fresh and quite good serves. Highly recommended for authentic asian cuisine at a GREAT price!
Mitchy
Mitchy. Amazing place!! The food it always fresh and tasty. I normally order from the viet sied of things and even my viet gf thinks it's legit. It's cheap and fast and the staff are always accomodating, even when i bring a dozen uninvited guests, oh and BYO of course. 9/10 for me. Not ten cause it's not on my street!
Blotpad
Best Beef Noodle Soup in Brisbane!
Sneakingduck
Pho me down!. I love this place! I love their rare beef pho. I love it so much I want to just dive into their pho stock - it's soyummy. <br/><br/>I've eaten here quite a few times and the place is always busy. Service is quick and easy going. Prices are cheap. And the food is great. I only order from the Vietnamese menu and mostly from the soups. I do on occasion eat the Combination pork chop with broken rice and fried egg dish. Another favourite of mine. But it's the pho soup that I cannot resist!
Kelvin Baggs
One of the best. This is a simple Vietnamese / Chinese restaurant. Very populate both western Westerners and Asians. Be prepared to wait to get a table.<br/><br/>This family run business has been operating for years and you'll consistently get great food.
Chiyo
A Brisbane Institution. Trang was recommended to me years ago by Vietnamese friends who love the place. <br/><br/>I frequent this place regularly, often with family and friends and am yet to find a meal I don't like. <br/><br/>Our favourites are the beef Pho, rice paper rolls, vermicelli noodle salad, Ho Fun noodles and the ice red bean drink with coconut milk. <br/><br/>The service is swift and accurate and the waiters are very obliging when it comes to delivering extra condiments and packing up meals to take home.<br/><br/>Prices are excellent too.
James Gleeson
The best pho ever. I would say that the pho quality is just out of this world. I know why it won best Vietnamese in Queensland and well deserved. The rice paper wraps are a must and the service is fast and friendly.
Bonza45
Delicious and affordable. Trang's has the best soup ever!! The rare beef noodle soup, the crispy skin chicken soup and the soup with wontons are what keep me going back. I swear I would be happy if all I was served was the broth, it is just beautiful! The salt and pepper squid is perfect every time and the pork and prawn spring rolls are also a great starter. I always order a home made lemon ice tea as well, it is really addictive.<br/><br/>I would also advise to ignore the chinese side of the menu as well, with the exception of the salt and pepper squid of course!<br/><br/>Reservation for tonight- check!
Pathetic
A must have. I eat at Trangs at least once a week and am never disappointed. The vietnamese soups and chicken w chili & lemongrass are the best in the city. Authentic flavours and huge portions. I even take 3 serves of soup and chicken home for my late night snacks
Kiki Cortes
Great food, resonable prices, prompt service. Great owners, who keep this place running efficiently, keep the staff happy and the food consistent and fresh! This is probably why Trang' has become one of our favorite restaurants in Brisbane for Chinese / Vietnamese food. Great, affordable food at reasonable prices.<br/>Reservations recommended as this place gets busy around dinner time.
Manup
QT vs Trang. I'm team Quan Than! Sorry Trang.
FrantheFoodLover
Nice & Cheap. The service is fairly average, there's certainly no smiles or polite chat, and the tablecloths are plastic, BUT if you want a cheap and filling meal then Trang is the place. I have been a few times and never get through more than a large bowl of Pho for $12.<br/><br/>BYO is easy from the bottle shop a few doors up.
Brizzz
Awesome little restaurant at very cheap prices!! Don't mind the run-down decor, as this is more than made up for with the food! Highly recommend the chicken or beef pho!!
Grace
Not bad. Not bad, but their food is not so impressive for the real Asian people
TJ
Tuk-tuk ride for your taste buds. Signature dish and all-time favourite dish, hands-down, is the special beef soup!. Better than a vietnamese sttreet stall, this is an incredible taste experience; fresh, vibrant, and super healthy. Like a tuk-tuk ride thru Ho Chi Minh City for your taste buds. <br/><br/>Life would be poorer without it. <br/><br/>Don't forget the fresh chillis!
Jazc
Frequent visits, happy days. There's something for everyone at trang :) friendly and prompt service and good satisfying food at a very reasonable price. may have to wait around dinner time, but it's worth the wait. good vermicelli salad. can ask for vege stock for noodle soups and fresh sliced chillies to make them taste even better.
Auswade
Mmm soup. The soup is so tasty!!!
Marcus Foth
Love the Vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad, and the Tricolour drink! Yumm
Zadie
Delicious Pho. I frequent this haunt regularly with friends and family and its one of the best cheap eats in Brisbane by far. The beef pho and chicken pho is healthy, flavoursome and a very generous serve. Service is fast but you'll need to make a booking, no matter what day of the week- there is always a line out the door.
Paul
Best Pho in Brisbane. Trang is an unassuming little Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane's West End. The building it resides in appears old in an authentic, and not run down, way. There are tables out the front and one can see diners lining up to get in on a busy night. Trang has the hallmarks of a local secret that one is all too excited to share with friends.<br/><br/>On a typical night, the restaurant will be at near full capacity. There is immense energy coming from the wait staff and the diners. The happy faces of diners focused on their food lets you know that you are somewhere outstanding. Waiting at Trang one feels is a privilege instead of a chore.<br/><br/>The true strength of the restaurant is its outstanding food. The menu is broken up into two main sections. One for "Vietnamese gourmet" and another for "Chinese dishes". Me and my partner ordered the "Special Beef Noodle Soup" and "Prawn & Pork + Salad Rolls" from the Vietnamese gourmet section of the menu.<br/><br/>Vietnamese noodle soup is usually a flavourful affair with the combination of beef soup stock, fresh bean sprouts, and basil. At Trang's it is no different. First came a large plate of bean sprouts, chilli, basil, and a wedge of lemon. Then the special beef noodles quickly arrived in a larger than expected bowl. Trang's do not skip on portion size. For the truly hungry, the "XLge Special Beef Noodle Soup" appears to be served out of a wash basin.<br/><br/>The flavour of Trang's special beef noodle soup is hard to explain. It has the unami, savory, taste that is often abused through the use of MSG, however the difference here is that it is subtle enough that one has faith the flavour is all natural. There is a complexity to the soup that will cause your brain to overload and simply give up to let your taste buds enjoy the heavenly delight. The flavour of the soup is best described as pure and almost sweet. It is good enough to be sold on its own.<br/><br/>The rest of the noodle soup contains thinly sliced pieces of beef that is tender, yet chewy. Included as well are beef meat balls, tripe, and tendon. All the meat have a very clean and light flavour that allows you to enjoy the textural diversity that is present in the dish. The noodles are cooked until very soft and will just melt in your mouth, assuming you don't break it with your chopsticks.<br/><br/>The prawn and pork rolls are soft Vietnamese spring rolls that are well made but not outstanding. Nevertheless, the salad in the rolls are crisp and light, allowing the taste of the prawn and pork to take centre stage. The dish comes with four rolls that will be more than enough to satisfy one's hunger. It is a good choice for those on diets or need something light for the meal.<br/><br/>Trang is by far the best pho restaurant I have ever come across. If you go there for the first time you must order something from the beef noodle soup section. There are no words that can describe how tantalisingly perfect their soup stock is. It is simply the best you will ever have. The low prices and high quality of food in this restaurant makes it a perfect place to go for any occasion; and perhaps the only place to go if you feel like some Vietnamese food.
Rachel Hutton
Great food, fast service. Light, clean flavours, tasty food that fills you right up at a price that's hard to beat. Venue a tad dodgy but atmosphere makes up for it. Amenities are a bit awkward to acess, but on the whole I loved it and I'm definitely going again.
Jeff Ainsworth
Great food and great prices! Try the crispy skin chicken and egg noodle soup. Don't forget to get a home made lemon tea too! Fantastic place

Special beef noodle soup (Pho dac biet). So good. You can honesty never go wrong with this. Just hits the spot every time. Trang's is one of the top vietnamese restaurants in brisbane so it's definitely worth a try if you're looking for something to cure your hang over or just warm yourself up on a cold winter day.

Trang probably has a wide variety of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes on offer, but I've only ever been interested in one in particular every time I visit: Phở Sài Gòn. This bowl of Happiness is exactly what I need to feel better. Nothing like a belly full of Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup to improve ones disposit

Trang Restaurant 59 Hardgrave Rd, West End Trang Restaurant West End is one of the most popular Vietnamese/Chinese restaurants in Brisbane. Located in West End on Hardgrave road you will often see a line up on a Friday and Saturday night. You can make bookings but this a typically limited as the restaurant relies on customer turnover. In this restaurant it may be considered impolite to sit at the table for an extended period after you have finished your meal. Today I ordered the sugar cane prawn vermicelli salad, spring rolls and a won ton short soup. The won ton short soup is cooked in a chicken stock and is always as tasty as I remember.  The sugarcane prawn vermicelli salad and spring rolls were also very tasty and satisfying. The food was good and what you would expect for this restaurant.  Unfortunately the service is lacking, compared to the previous owners.  Once before you would be promptly seated and orders taken and the food generally came out quite fast. Now you get seated a

While Trang is a Vietnamese restaurant, it actually has a large Chinese selection from the menu and our first dish of deep fried wantons was definitely Chinese. There were eight wanton's included in the dish, which were quite small. What they lacked in size, they made up for in quality, these were superbly deep fried but extremely light at the same time. The pork filling was still moist but had the lightest and crunchiest texture you could imagine. The thick and sticky sweet chilli sauce was perfect with the wonton and each was a little delicacy.

Though hardly a restaurant known for its ambience, this bustling restaurant had both reservations and a line outside its door, with diners eagerly waiting their turn. There were easily other restaurants along the same street that any hungry diners could satisfy themselves at, but it had to be Trang.

My Melbourne-native friend hadn't tried Brisbane pho yet! Having lived here for a while now, and not yet having it is somewhat strange, seeing it is the national dish of her culture! So my idea of giving her the best possible introduction was to take her to Trang, a Vietnamese restaurant in West End, a place reputable for its good, no fuss food. This was a chance for us to tend to a long, deserving catch up session, for we (mostly her) had been very busy with schedules (and her hectic fashion student schedule!). The restaurant is on a small strip of other food outlets, including at least two other Vietnamese restaurants. By far, this restaurant was probably the worst in regards to the visual appeal, as it was very outdated with the curtains, paintings, and plastic chairs outside. But anyway, we were here for the food. So off we went, entering the restaurant. There was another couple already dining, but after we had entered, three more tables filled. I guess we were leading the trend fo

This place is as popular as the pho is good. The food is ridiculously cheap and it is Brisbane’s worst kept secret. If you want to venture to West End for your pho fix I recommend you get there early, book or keep the table small if you want to get a seat.

Aside from that, their soup is subtlely flavourful and their beef is actually rare, yes! And their noodles are intact and don’t fall apart making it able to be picked up by chopsticks. This time, there wasn’t any coriander in the soup so maybe I should ask coriander in next time.

But my all time favourite 'grilled pork with vermicelli' was the clear winner of the night. The pork was really tender and the freshness of the bean sprouts, cucumber, lettuce and carrots blended well with the sauce and rice vermicelli.

... the pork pieces should have been grilled longer to achieve the not too charred, crispy pork! I had better Vietnamese food before.

Perhaps not “THE” place to go to on a first date, but Trang is the perfect place for a wintery night, ask for a bowl of hot, steamy pho because the broth will blow your mind.

Thursday evening I was craving a really good vietnamese Pho. The previous night I had discovered a packet form of Pho at my local asian grocer. This packet promised an authentic Pho where my only contribution to what is normally a day long process would be to add beef stock, herbs and noodles. Big mistake. Once you have tasted really great Pho there is no way that your taste buds will settle for less. It would be like pouring passion pop into a Moet bottle and drinking it. So, not satisfied by the salt and MSG ridden impostor I had previously ingested I went in search of some truly great vietnamese food. Luckily, Brisbane has some of the best vietnamese food outside of Indochine itself. Trang which is located on Hardgrave Rd in West End is by far the best there is. It is all you could want in a good viet joint. Really great cheap, fast, fresh food, in a family run setting that is suitably kitsch and casual with its comp

The beef noodle soup from Trang Restaurant is one of the best noodle soup restaurants that I love.

A cheap and cheerful Vietnamese place has plenty of customers keeping it busy. I'd love to try many of the other dishes which looked so good on other tables. Portions were generous and fresh.

The appeal of Trang is that it supplies all the positives of an authentic Vietnamese eatery but you don't have to travel to Inala or Dara (or Sunnybank, since they do Chinese dishes too). The food is cheap, the menu is huge and the dishes themselves are big servings of delicious. While we were eating there, I noticed that the rest of the customers were mostly (if not all) Asians so that should be a fairly good indicator.
Eating Brisbane
We started with the San Choi Bow which was more of a main plate than a starter. Both lettuce leaves were not only rather large but completely full of meet, onion and other goodies.

The pho at Trang is spectacular. Although I’ve never been a die hard pho fan (I prefer the bun thit heo nuong cha gio – vermicelli with grilled pork), I instinctively know a good broth because… it tastes fracking awesome.
