Review Fundies Whole Foods Cafe - Brisbane

So nice! A staff member made me an açai even after they’d closed up that part of the shop. Went out of their way, thank you!

wonderful organic, ethical and sustainable supermarket. it's worth joining their loyalty program for discounted days. good range of products at reasonable prices.
Elle
Fantastic organic selection and expensive but offer a very good variety. They also have great lip balms and our kids love the cereal selection. However what is best about Flannerys is Francesca or Fran. She is friendly and kind and will help you with anything you need from best tasting prunes to where is the soft dried mango and helping me choose an almond milk that is both healthy and tasty. She also helped me with essential oils and magnesium for our son w ADHD who sleeps even better now. Honestly, it’s the only reason I go now because it saves us money asking Fran first because she really knows the product and is very knowledgable re ingredients and taste. Ask for Fran, she should really be running the shop🙌🏼🥰

Excellent range of foods catering to all sorts of dietary needs. Affordable. Helpful and friendly staff. I always look forward to my Fundies shop!!

The cafe food is amazing! Reasonably priced and big portion sizes. Great variety in the store also. Staff were warm and welcoming.

By far the blandest vegan food I've ever tried Came to the cafe with a vegan friend of mine. It seemed like most of the staff were vegan, one of them told me it was hard to find flavourful vegan food so they were glad to be able to work here so I expected good things. By far the blandest vegan food I've ever tried and my friend agreed with me.

Unfriendly and incompetent staff members! They had difficulty finding popular practitioner-only supplements that were right behind them and struggled to maintain their composure while serving customers.
Eri
Love this place! A lot of organic products!!

Wine to explore this cafe via the entrance from the side of supermarket, where they supply lots of healthy food. Walked in the cafe and was greeted by the friendly staff. After I was told that they are no longer serving breakfast menu then I changed my mind to order a slice of banana bread and a flat white.
Maybe what they serve is organic coffee, it seems the strength is slight down for my palate. Having said that the toasted banana bread delivers a strong taste of banana and soft and mellow texture. I have missed such nice one for a while. Love it!
We spent many a Sunday brunches here, especially while I was pregnant. The food is honestly delicious, love the big breaky, the beans are so hearty and the scrambled tofu is so delicious and full of flavour. The smoothies are nice, but they don’t do fresh juices sadly anymore. Hot drinks are just ok.

What REALLY disappointed us was that we had assumed that the food is all organic - it is not. Now that we have a baby, we don’t go anymore, as he only eats organic.
Kathlyn Taylor
Had the vegan big breakie and every mouthful was amazing. The scrambled tofu was surprisingly full of flavour and not bland, even the beans had a nice balance of tomato mixed through. Got me filled up and ready to start my day... after a much needed nap

By far my favourite breakfast place in brisbane.
Me and my partner are both vegetarian and this place really delivers.
They have amazing coffee, juices and smoothies.
The breakfast portions are huge at a awesome price high they use high quality produce.
Another plus is they have counter service no fuss order and pay , enjoy your meal
And leave without having to stress about one bill per table.

Great spot, easy place to get new and exciting ingredients and enjoy a nice coffee. The breakfast menu is exactly what you want with the smoked salmon dish being my personal favourite. Vegan and vegetarian catered for really well, staff in both the market and cafe have great knowledge about the range of products and dishes that they serve.

Today I decided to go to Paddington for breakfast and thought this place would be a good option.

My partner had a scrambled tofu on sourdough and I had the Vegan lentil pie from the Byron Bay pie company with a hot beverage.

The scrambled tofu was a huge serve and perfectly seasoned we both enjoyed it until the last bite, the sourdough was also fresh and perfectly toasted. Would rate it a 4.5 out of 5.

The Lentil Pie was pleasant but nothing extraordinary, with a few pieces of tofu and other veggies with curried lentil, the crust was crunchy and it had been a long time since I've had a pie so I was definitely happy. Would rate it a 4 out of 5.

Overall I loved this place and was really happy with the healthy store which is located in the same shop and it will definitely be one of my to go places when looking for something around paddington.

Had the vegan big breakfast and it was amazing!! Also tried one of the raw treats and was very impressed.. definitely coming back despite the 22 minute drive!

Awesome place. Good quality food if you're into vego places. The service is a bit slow and leisurely for my liking. Could do with more outdoor seating like the place next door!
Sassenach
A great spot to meet your vegan/veggo friends for lunch. The vibe is laid back and a bit hippy. A Paddo institution and so glad it's still thriving after all these years.

I won't rave about the coffee, I usually have tea when I go, feels healthier.
Hungrygirl
This place is a consistently good spot for breakfast. The service here is friendly and efficient and the food is really cheap considering breakfasts are now around the $20 mark. I would recommend getting the make your own breakfast; I usually just get either avocado or scrambled eggs on toast and either a juice or a coffee and walk away with change from $15. One of my favourite spots in Brisbane to eat breakfast and I really enjoy sitting outside and people watch while I eat. I have been coming here frequently for the last six or years and have no plans to change that.

Been here twice, food was amazing both times for breakfast and for lunch. Will definitely go again and bring friends. Oh and they have decent coffee too! Yay!
Maddie
Fundies is consistently great. Delicious flavours, never boring and the specials always a good choice. Really love their truffle egg special in particular.

HEALTHY AND DELICIOUS !!! Bircher muesli is out of this word!! But everything I've tired is amazing. Great coffee and friendly staff. Doesn't look exciting from the outside but definitely one of the best Cafes on the Paddington strip!

I've eaten now at Fundies for near on a decade. It's had a few ups and down during that time, service wise, however I've yet to see a place that has not. Fundies dishes out consistently good, wholesome vegetarian and vegan food. Their scrambled tofu is absolutely superb, coconut bircher musli covered in berries and toasted coconut chips is also a fantastic favorite. With a great salad selection you'd be forgiven for wanting to eat breakfast and lunch there, often. Conveniently located next to a health food store, it's a must visit if you've not yet been.

Went there today. Their Tumeric Latte was good but their type of gluten free bread was not suitable for all people. FODMAPs not taken into account and because I pointed this out was virtually booted out of cafe.
Dr Food
Lovely cafe with wooden furniture, pleasant service in a relaxed atmosphere. I love the fundies big breakfast, especially the sautéed mushrooms. Very nice smooth coffee.

VGirl and I went to Fundies Wholefoods on Mothers Day, before you go thinking why we didn't take Mama Pham with us, she was working that day and had already received her Mother's Day present. We had originally planned to go to Kettle and Tin but the line was out the door, so to Fundies, land of the veggo brekkies!

fresh, healthy, yummy. nice staff. everything is good, at least from what I've had. it gets pretty busy during the weekends but it is worth it. nice cafe.

If you want a healthy virtuous start to the day then Fundies is definitely the place to go. They do a great range of salads and hot dishes, all chock full of organic goodness. Some of the prices are quite high though, given the pretty ordinary surroundings in which you're eating. Kind of feels like a throwback to 70s California.
Renee.slocombe
A wholesome , organic experience!. Great coffee, lovely tasty food and a must to go to if you are in Paddigton. My first stop always!
Sunshine And Gin
While not strictly meat free Fundies Whole Food Cafe have loads of vegetarian options for breakfast, lunch and takeaway. They also do some delightful juices if you’re partial to some veg in a bottle.

Aug 27, 2016

I had the big breakfast which was smashed avocado, tomato, saute mushrooms, 2 poached eggs with scrambled tofu and spinach on sourdough bread. It was amazing and so filling!! Thank you for making such wonderful food always!

Feb 24, 2015

Really good. :). Great coffee, their desserts are amazing, such a healthy menu, never disappoints. Definitely recommend it!

A must for breakfast. I often come here and it never fails to disappoint. The food is fantastic, it reminds me of the food that I eat in Melbourne. Everything is fresh and tastes amazing.

Don't miss it. Great breakfast with instant service. Will be back again for sure. HAPPY SUNDAY :D

Good Service. It wasn't inexpensive, however since when are wholefoods not pricey? Enjoyed a paleo style breakfast with adaptations willingly incorporated by the friendly staff according to my rather complex dietary intake inclusive of a beautiful cold pressed juice. I myself am often under the impression I could cook a better wholefoods meal for myself at home which has led to eating out becoming a frustrating experience. Cannot say the same of Fundies Paddo Cafe-no complaints here, well done!

Amazing treats. The coconut-chia-chocolate cake was one of the tastiest cakes I've had in a while and surpassed my expectations. Coffee is quite decent. As for the savoury selections, I've only had breakfast here once which was just okay, but I'll definitely be back for the sweet treats. Friendly staff too.
Kate Kate
I had the most amazing breakfast at Fundies this morning! My soy latte was perfect and my bircher muesli was to die for!! Would go back every morning if I could!
Jane
My daughter who is a vegan took me to Fundies for lunch today and I absolutely loved it. The food was amazing, healthy and delicious.

Oh. My. God. Best food I've had in YEARS - I am not kidding.

I eat out quite a bit, and am usually disappointed. I cook reasonably well, at least enough so that most restaurant meals leave me thinking "I could have cooked this better myself". Today's lunch at Fundies was a revelation. OMG. Those flavours!! I had a lentil and eggplant moussaka ... how do you get those flavours out of lentils, onions and tomatoes? And the salads ... I hate rocket (too bitter), don't love pear (too sweet) and not fussed on walnuts ... but the rocket, pear and walnut salad was utter heaven. The other salads were equally divine. I have no chance of cooking this kind of food. I am humbled and admonished. I am hanging up my hat, going to bed and dreaming of Fundies.

I met the chef/cook briefly, and was astonished to find he did not, after all, glow like a God. I swear, the man is a genius. All of you at home watching Masterchef and imagining the flavours ... do yourself a favour (*tips hat to Molly Meldrum*) and get thee to Fundies, now!

(I actually had to stop at a library on the way home from Fundies so I could write this review ... it couldn't wait any longer!)
Monique
Only have 1 suggestion. I really enjoyed the food here. They have great veggie burgers however the smoothie wasn't great. I asked for it to be thick and it was very runny and had full cubes of ice. For $7.50 I definitely expect a great smoothie. Perhaps a Vitamix would be a good investment to perfect your smoothies :) I definitely won't be ordering any drinks unless they upgrade.
Molly
I love the food at fundies and the staff are always warm and friendly, unfortunately their juices and smoothies are always under par :( I've tried a few different ones on the menu and I've always been disappointed :(

Great. I dont know what the person below me is talking about, these guys have one of the most flexible breakfast menus around, not many places let you build your own nowdays. The food is always spot on and the service is great. In this day and age of very subpar cafes these guys are doing a great job!!
DiningDiva
10/10. Love, love, love. Can't say anything bad about this place. Scrambled eggs are awesome and come with massive amounts of delicious bread. Nothing I hate more than paying heaps for breakfast for one poached egg on some anorexic sour-dough but this is a feed and a half! Salads and juices are always fresh. Will always go back.
Donna B
Happy Customer. A little bit pricey but the food is delicious and staff are always kind. Great for vegans!
Food
Service and food is great. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious meals. Salads and the raw cherry ripe cheesecake is to die for

Excellent... every time!. Have been stopping in here for lunch when I am in the area for years...! Always delicious food, with wholesome service, this little café always delivers.

My staple is the Fundies tofu burger (with humus and tahini) and a berry smoothie = perfection.

Reliably good quality organic food. Delicious huge size chai tea. Friendly, fast service.
Lauren
Great experience. Delicious food and drink, served promptly and in a lovely environs. Natural and healthy food without compromising on taste.
A little pricey, but well worth it.
The store is gorgeous as well, it's hard to leave without picking up a few goodies on the way out!
RMS
Always delicious, wide selection, perfect for vegetarians and vegans. Service is 10/10 every time.

Amazing little organic cafe. Great for lunch or breakfast. Coffee just average but leek purée with corn bread and home made beans, amazing!

Love this place!. We've been eating at Fundies for years and, yet again today, had another lovely lunch. Their beautifully made salads are always a winner - and you never get bored by the choice - they're different every day. I usually cannot go past the Mediterranean turkish bread - they are just so good - and take anyone I can there with me to have one - I've been known to have four in one week.

I really do love this place.

Good organic food. Didn't know healthy food could taste this good. The coffee is pretty good.

Great place. I absolutely love fundies worth the 40 minute drive!
Domenico
I was disappointed with the service. They forgot that I put an order and if it wasn't because we asked we would have been waiting for longer. They also forgot to add a desert on the order. Not a place I will come back.

NOT ORGANIC. This shop and attached has a wide range of foodstuffs and products.

However, the vast majority of foods do not carry any recognised Organic labelling. The shop says they are but cannot back this up. I don't mean the international labelled foods but nearly all the Australian ones are not certified organic. The staff just say yes its organic but anyone can do that.

We were very disappointed in this place. It seems they just prey on people's goodwill and trust and so we will avoid buying so-called "organic" products from this place.

There are other options such as Mrs Flannerys in Woolloongabba, Wray Organic in Newmarket, the suburban markets, FoodConnect and plenty of online suppliers.
Meg
The food is superb every time, the cafe is in a lovely area. The customer service is terrible and that's enough reason to avoid the place. I asked for scrambled tofu and received scrambled eggs. Confused I tasted it to check, eggs revolt me so I knew it was wrong. I wasn't offered an apology my friend was offered to eat my breakfast as well as her own though. The staff repeatedly just demonstrate that they don't know an iota about customer service.
Ellasyn
Tasty vegetarian food. Ive been here many times over the years and really love their vege burger (chickpea or curried lentil). The coffee is decent and the food is fresh. They have some yumo salads as well. Can't say the staff are overly friendly, but I know what I'm getting and have enjoyed every meal I've eaten there. The fact there are a lack of vegetarian cafes in Brisbane means im willing to continue visiting Fundies regardless of the sour waitresses.

Staff with bad attitudes. Being a Red Hill local I would frequent Fundies at least twice a week. Yes there food is great and it complemented my vegan dietary requirements. However being confronted with moody staff with bad attitudes was at best a little tiresome. Figuring maybe they are having a bad day I would always ignore it and wait for my food. After months of being subjected to these unpleasant staff I finally decided to find another place to eat where at least I would be greeted with a smile. Is it not common courtesy to extend eye contact, a smile and even a thank you to your customers. I've since found better places to eat where the staff are welcoming, hospitable and friendly. I can safely say I won't ever return to Fundies. Thanks.

Just amazing! The food is the best quality, tastes amazing and they have great sized meals. I recommend the scrambled tofu which is to die for and so full of flavour. The pancakes with caramel sauce and banana is a huge hit with the kids. The chai in a bowl is also a must. Cannot reccomend Fundies enough!

Simply the Best. As a Paddington local I know I can always count on Fundies for an awesome vego meal. The salads and bakes are always fresh and tasty and even the desserts are always mouth watering. My only complaint would be how quickly everything runs out so get there quick! :) Keep up the good work Fundies!
T-Bag
Superb. Despite the expected lack of meat on the menu, Fundies still manages to pull off an outstanding breakfast and lunch at a very good price! The gourmet burgers were quite tasty and the scrambled eggs on organic sourdough toast is simply delicious. The chai tea is the best in Brisbane when it's done well - but this isn't universal. Service is always pleasant.

GOOD, HEALTHY, CHEAP
Never lets you down, Never costs you much, Never tastes bad, Never give you attitude.

Sounds pretty good hey.

Give it a go for a really nice lunch with zero guilt

Comfy cafe. I normally hate busy and noisy cafe, but this is an exception. They serve one of the most delicious Orange and Almond cake! I would go back with my girl friends to try more food there. Lovely staff too.
Brekky Fan
Another good brekky. I really liked the cafe's set up, quite a few options for brekky and the food was really quick, fresh & delicious. Generous serving too. Staff were friendly and the chai latte was great - I liked that they let you sweeten it with really gd honey. Oh and the attached store is a treasure trove of organic foodstuff!

Delicious, organic and healthy alternatives to you daily food intake. When I'm too lazy decide what to eat that is healthy and taste good I go to fundies, its a no brainer, all yummy and vegetarian, karma free food. (they also have spring valley water, for someone who dislikes the taste of qld tap water, it's a big deal)
Sydney
Sydney. Live at Manly and whenever in the area always drop in to Fundies for coffee and cake. Excellent atmosphere, fantastic coffee and beautiful staff. As good as it gets in this world.
Anthony Miller
Absolutely the best organic cafe in Brisbane, just love the delicious breakfast and lunch, especially the yummy chai. Friendly staff and beautiful atmosphere makes it the perfect place to chill with friends.

Yum. Lovely interior, the tastiest of pies!
Jim
Very loud; not the place to go for a quiet chat. Quite popular with the "alternative" crowd. More good than bad.
Sophie Burman
Best vegetarian breakfast and lunch ever! I've never been disappointed by the fabulous food, great coffee, excellent service, cosy setting or delicious menu options! I LOVE this place and recommend to all, vegetarian or not. The big breakfast is a must!
Steven Dudley
Brisbane's best vegetarian breakfast!. Fundies is by far our most favourite of breakfast places.
Although we are far from being vegetarian, the Fundies big breakfast with scrambled tofu is something to be experienced by everyone!
Their takeaway salads (or dine in) taste fantastic and are reasonably priced.
Their menu is well priced for the area and their coffee is top notch - they use organic milk.
Interested in lunch? You gotta try one of their pies - OMG!
Jazc
Good, simple food at reasonable prices. It doesn't offer the best atmosphere and can get very busy, but there's always an option of take-away salads and coffee.
Ken Ji
Consistently good. Fundies has become a real stalwart for breakfast and lunch in Paddington. It's pretty consistently good, with ripper big brekkies and salads. Their juices are hard to beat, and their chai simply CANNOT be beaten anywhere in Brisbane - just divine. Very impressed with how they have managed to keep up the goodness over the years.
JoyandEva
...packed full of organic, whole foods that are all totally natural. You won’t see a processed product in sight in this place. And you also have the added bonus of a whole foods store right next door, so you can pick up a few key ingredients after your meal.
A Conscious Life
...I jumped at the chance to suggest dining at Fundies Wholefoods Café in Paddington because it is one of my most favourite places to eat! It's casual, it's calm, the food is simple but sensational, there are stacks of Vegan & Vegetarian options and it's easy on the old hip pocket (i.e. meals under $15). There is something about the energy of the people and th

Surely these organic places used to be more common than they are now; the uber-wholesome environment, the committed staff with long hair and the vaguely hippy-like nature of some of the clientele take one way back. But hey man, no need to stress out, for the food here surpasses expectations. The tofu burgers come with a choice of sauces and a salad of shredded carrot, beetroot, green leaves and sprouts, enclosed by slices of very fine bread, creating an extremely satisfying dish. The frittata with asparagus is accompanied by fresh salad (how about beetroot with fetta?), while in one of the breakfast dishes (still available at lunch time) the scrambled eggs team up with avocado, mushrooms and a mixture of beans. In every case the servings are generous and the dishes well thought out so as to provide a balance of flavour and texture. The juices are formidable. This cafe is unreservedly recommended, and for

As we headed down a narrow stretch of tables, towards the menu board and display counter, both of us thought that the concept and food offerings looked pretty similar to that of Sassafras up the road @ LaTrobe Tce. At fundies, there is a strong focus on Organic & primarily a vegetarian menu, with the only meat-based meal in the form of Byron Gourmet Pies. The display cabinet presented some really mouth-watering, creative salads, vegetarian patties, rice balls, quiches, a blue chees

i think that is a true testament on how good food at fundies is! the food is feel good - it looks good and tastes great - no artifical flavours or preservatives. i admire the way they practice what they preach!
