Racecourse Road in Ascot, Brisbane is foodie joy with several restaurants on this strip, there is bound to be something for everybody. It is also the place where I found one of the best patisseries in Brisbane – Le Bon Choix. With seating inside it is the perfect place to have an afternoon coffee and cake.

After the review of the Halmet on Charlton last week that reminded me the experience of having the almond croissant here last time. It was the similar situation that I tried to compare the almond croissant from this renowned French boutique to the one at the Halmet so drove there to explore this morning.
Although it is Mother’s Day today but it is reasonably busy not so crowd with people.
Ordered the almond croissant with a flat white. It only took five minutes to have both things in hand. I took a seat at the nearby bus stop to consume the brekkie. Honestly, the result is the same, it’s almond croissant is let down by those from the Helmet.

Great coffee and cakes but can be crowded. Noisy and clattery but the coffee is good and the pastry also good. Air conditioned and comfortable seating.

I love Le Bon Choix! Their cakes are amazing and of course the pastries are great too. Never had something from there that I haven’t like. They are great with sweets but also have amazing savoury food like sandwiches. Sad because my favourite cake got discontinued but still love all the cakes.

We come here for coffee after our large Sashimi lunch. This is my favourite Le Bon Choix outlet in Brisbane. I place my order and we enjoy the cool comfort of this cafe as we wait for our coffee.

Our large Cappuccino arrives after a short wait. Served hot and strong it is what we need after a fishy lunch. Thank you Le Bon Choix!

I ordered one of the pre-made paninis for lunch. It was delicious. The bread was fresh (as expected) and the roast vegetable fillings were generous and delicious. The coffee that followed was also good. Just be careful as it’s easy to go in with good intentions and come out with cake. I had to use all my willpower to prevent cake from happening.

I have recently moved to the area & have found my local coffee house! The coffee is always made beautifully and I love the fact they offer different blends of coffee. Service is always prompt and polite. I have only had an almond croissant myself and without a doubt it was one of the best pasties in the area. Overall, I enjoy the ambience and quality of products and services. Highly Recommend.

The coffee is consistently good here and the Almond Croissants are AMAZING!!! If only I could eat them everyday. One thing I don’t like is being told to pre-order if I want to purchase 10 of them for a team meeting... WTH?! What does it matter? I’m still paying full price. In future I’ll only buy for myself. :)

Really yummy French pastries and excellent coffee makes this local a favourite. Inexpensive too which makes a nice surprise. Service is hit and miss but never brilliant. Overall very reliable if you are after a coffee break.

Best French patisserie I've been to. Such a wonderful setting and very authentic. Fabulous breads and the most amazing tarts and cakes. We always get an individual serving as well as take stuff home when we come in. Coffee is lovely too. Best ham and cheese croissant I've ever had, when we have people over we come down early in the morning and grab a quick coffee and then bring home a dozen (or however many people we are feeding) home and put them in the oven for everyone to have when they wake up. Amazing. Tricky location as it can be difficult to find a park, but it's worth it. And good service. Pastries and breads are very well price. You pay for the tarts but they're amazing and worth what you pay for. Brilliant

Not like me to pop into a cakey kinda cafe. But I felt like it today. Its 35HUNDRED degrees out there and it's air conditioned inside.
Walk in and be tempted by all the glistening surfaces of the cakes.

We were so tempted, we broke the portion control rule and did not share.
The cakes we both ordered were mousse type cakes. Not your normal boring ones, but exciting and decadent cakes.
In hindsight, it was probably wiser if we shared. It was a bit much right after lunch. Service was quick and friendly.

Beautiful bakery that looks and feels (and is) expensive. Friendly service, very well presented. While there is a menu, it only represents what may be available to buy, as you have to check what's left in the fridge. What I had was delicious, and I saw plenty of interesting desserts delivered to tables around me. It's a quiet atmosphere inside and out. I enjoyed my experience, although I wasn't blown away as I hoped I might be for the price.

My wife absolutely loves the almond croissants! My daughter likes the Pain Au Chocolat and I like to pick up a baguette or boule to bring home. Coffee is pretty good as well.  We come regularly and prefer the Hamilton location to the CBD.  Highly recommend.

After such horrendous service across the road it was most refreshing to walk in to greetings with a smile. The staff here made you feel welcomed. The coffee and cake was awesome! Well done

High rating here for the authentic French pastries & croissant. Always have the almond croissant at the city branch, but decided to try an attractive, mouthwatering number named appropriately Bahati. As the name rightly suggests takes you to a tropical sunset somewhere with that coconut & lime hit & tropical array of colours. You need to get the coffee ordered strong to go with it & there you have it -bliss!

I have ordered a couple of cakes from here and they have been wonderful. I regularly drop in to pick up mini cakes and macrons for afternoon teas and they are always good value for the great quality.

The croissants, macaroons and the chicken baguette are delicious, definitely a favourite, but need to improve on the quality of the coffee beans used... Would visit more frequently if the coffee was of better quality

I quite like a healthy lunch here as all ingredients are freshly prepared and you know they won't try to cheap-out on your order. Sometimes can get quite busy, hence I sometimes grab a takeaway instead. Absolutely delicious combinations, thumbs up!

Cappuccino and a Croisant. Needed to find a Cake for a Birthday and didn't want to line up behind a bunch of people on a cheesecake diet at a certain cake establishment and was told about this Le Bon Choix... Doesn't that just roll off the tongue! Funnily enough I live close enough to walk there. Picked up some strawberry mousse cake as recommended which turned out to be perfect for the occasion. Had to go back to try my fav combination of a cappuccino and croissant so I had time to sit down and decide which cake to get for the next birthday event!

Little cakes and macaroons are yummy. Love sitting down for the brioche with maple syrup or fresh baguette with butter and jam. Staff are from France- very high turnover some are friendly some are a little cold. Lovely chairs and tables outside to have coffee with friends.

Délicieux Croissants!. Le Bon Choix is an upscale patisserie with beautifully displayed desserts all French, of course, with staff looking quite professional in their crisp, white chef jackets. They also serve sandwichy-type items and tremendous coffee. But out of all the things we sampled it was the plain croissant that was the definite winner!

My partner cannot go past a bakery or dessert place without going in and having to sample lots of items and Le Bon Choix was no different. Although we had just come from having lunch, we went in to check it out.

All of the desserts were elegantly presented behind glass with each item named and priced on a sign in front of it. Further down along the counter was another similar display, but of bread and the next one down were sandwiches made on croissants and other French breads.

As the pace of customers was fairly consistent, this gave us a lot of time to figure out what we were having. Everything looked great! We finally made a decision and the woman who served us was friendly and knowledgeable but still kept that air of professionalism.

You cannot go into a patisserie and not try the basic staple of the French diet – a plain croissant, so we ordered one ($2.80) along with a Mille-Feuille ($6.80),
Citron Tart ($6.80) and a Long Black ($3.40). There was a plate by the till that had samples to try of baguette and sourdough breads. The fragrance was tremendous and the actual bread was soft and moist with a magnificent crust. Very impressive!

With the choice to sit either in or out, we chose outside which seemed to be popular as almost all of the tables had been taken up. A few moments later our goodies arrived and the feast began!

We started with the Mille-Feuille (translation: “thousand sheets”) which is normally vanilla flavour, was cherry flavoured here. Biting through the stack of thin chocolate puff pastry, it was light and delicate, and therefore also quite messy with flakes of pastry falling all over the place. The dessert was lovely and of high quality no doubt, but the cherry was overpowering. Only because of the flavour, this was not a favourite of ours, but this would be heavenly to anyone who loves the distinct taste of cherries.

Next it was on to the Citron Tart. We had asked how tart it was and were told that it was more tart than sweet. Even according to the sign in front of it in the display case said “zesty”. The tart was definitely fresh and the shell was lovely, but I found that it was still sweeter then had hoped for. My partner still enjoyed it immensely but we both agreed that there may have been false advertising as there was no lemon zest at all in the filling. Still a very good choice, but we’ve had ones more to our liking.

During the sampling I had been sipping my long black which was strong and rich but with just a touch of bitterness to it. Still very enjoyable and for the price, pretty good.

Our last adventure was the plain croissant. This is easily the best one we’ve had in Brisbane! Slight flakiness to the outside while the inside was soft and buttery and not bread-like at all! Delicious perfection! And for only $2.80, it’s an incredible deal!

I certainly would recommend this spot as it’s obvious these are supreme desserts and pastries. It’s a charming establishment which would be great to meet up with friends at. I would also recommend Le Bon Choix for anyone who is trying to learn French as, let’s face it, it’s easier when it’s about food! Bon appetit!

Came on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Friendly staffs, good coffee. The mango mousse and mango jelly cake was delicious. You have to come early to avoid the empty shelves.

Such a nice place. We have been coming here for many years for coffee and superb pastry treats. The breads really taste like it does in France, not sure why but it’s amazing. We recently decided to trust them to make us a cake for that one special day where we said ‘I do’ and they did not disappoint. It was from their standard range (Bamboleo) but still a delightful eye catching piece of art and very much enjoyed by us and all our guests! Six stars. L&J
