Review Picnic Cafe - Brisbane

Em & Eden
Vibrant little cafe in a busy area! Parking is quite tricky on weekends and early mornings but plenty of surrounding streets if you don’t mind walking. Staff are friendly and welcoming! This is probably our third/fourth time visiting and staff have always been really quick and efficient. Have only ever ordered coffee so our review is based on that! Our recent visit, coffees were both really sour. Ordered both a cappuccino (pictured) and vanilla iced latte. Cafe was quite busy, so I understand the pressure to get the coffees out quickly, but unfortunately the quality was compromised. I do really enjoy the space though, the large open window really makes the cafe feel open and inviting. Might pop back in again if I’m the area, but probably wouldn’t travel out of our way. Would love to try some of their food and update our review 👍🏻

Pretty good coffee, attentive service, and the new menu is great! Some of the sides are a tad pricey ($5 for one extra egg) but overall a great experience. Wasn't too hard to get a table for three at 9am on a Sunday which is a big plus!

First time here meeting friends. Will definitely be back. It’s a popular cafe. The first thing that struck me was table service- haven’t had that in a while, so it was off to a great start. Friendly staff and cost relaxed atmosphere. Food is lovely here! Coffee (importantly) was on point! We had a quinoa bowl, mushrooms on toasts and signature hashbrowns Benny! See the pictures and try not to want to eat...

I went to the gym for 2 hrs before coming, expecting a big brunch and they did not disappoint. It is one of the first times ever I've unable to finish my food. 3 of us ordered the pancakes and none of us could finish. They are so delicious, so generous, so gluttonous and so more-ish that I kept sneaking more bites into my mouth even when I could barely move, or talk or breathe from being so full. Timtams + nutella + strawberries + icecream is a dangerous combo. Don't come if you're on a silly diet. Come if you want an $18 meal that will fill you up til brunch the next day. Couldn't recommend this place higher. Also expect a 30min wait, this place is crazy popular but the staff are lovely and the wait is worth it. So worth it.

Difficult one to review. Went for breakfast on a Thursday morning around 8am and we were the only diners. Great start with chilled water brought to the table promptly. Lovely ambiance with nice background music. However, one of the wait staff was cleaning the tables & chairs with a small bucket of soapy water and cloth. Left the bucket on a nearby table, brought us our plates and then resumed cleaning. Did she wash her hands first before handling our plates? My hash cake with bacon and poached eggs looked great and was tasty although the bacon could do with more crisp but got an unwanted surprise crunch from a rather large piece of egg shell...oops. Wife enjoyed her "healthy heart" granola/ muesli / yoghurt but said her flat white could be hotter. So heaps of potential but missed the mark today!

Very friendly staff and really yummy food! The coffee is really nice and the presentation of the food is lovely! A great little spot in Camp Hill and I can't wait to return! The breakfast ham and cheese croissant is also really nice!

Some visits are excellent and some are not very good eg sending food back to be heated or cooked through more etc. Today was a no decaf coffee available and a slice of barely warm floppy "toast" banana bread. I came home and toasted it myself. Would love to experience some consistency please.

This cafe has a nice vibe and the service was very attentive. Some interesting breakfast choices that are Asian inspired (quinoa nasi goreng) as well as standard fare. Bruschetta wasn't really bruschetta and came with roast tomatoes instead of normal diced cherry tomatoes. Coffee was quite good.

It was my first time here but definitely not the last as I really enjoyed the flavours of the meal and the restaurant’s style was a perfect all round spot for brunch.
Amy
Lovely cafe and food was fantastic! the burrito bowl was delicious, definitely worth the money. can only get one bill per table, which is worth considering. definitely would recommend!

Absolutely the best breakfast I have had in a while. Quick service -portions huge. Not pretentious, just friendly staff and amazing breakfasts. Yum yum yum will be back.

Picnic is a great consistent performer. Lots of choice in the breakfast and lunch menu including both healthy and splurge options. My only criticism would be their variety of hot drinks (besides coffee) is a bit limited but their coffee is really good!

This place is a real winner. The breakfasts are generous, innovative and absolutely delicious. The location is a nice renovated old building in a corner of finest middle class suburbia so plenty of lah dee dah homeware places to window shop in afterwards. This place would be totally 5* but for the noise - with little down by way of sound mediation and for the fact that in all the bustle nobody bothered to come around & see if we'd like another round of drinks (which we totally would have). But it is still pretty close to perfect otherwise and I do plan to return.

Fantastic spot for a weekend brekky. Always attentive service and excellent food. One of the best on the Southside and consistently busy which shows the standard

$17 for 1/4 of a plate... I ordered the hash Benedict with salmon expecting a large tasty spread while my partner ordered the pork belly. After waiting a reasonable amount of time this arrived... I mean it's a stack don't get me wrong... But compared to my partners meal for the same price... Seems like a bit of a rip off. The food was tasty and the coffee was good but still for the price I was not convinced. I don't think we will be coming back until they put more on the plate... Maybe some salad?
Christy
Most delicious breakfast we have had in a long time around Brisbane. Highly recommend! Great service, fresh and great flavours and leaves you with a need to come back and try more from the menu. Great coffee, whole experience was Deeeeslicious!

Cute cafe which is always pulling a good crowd which is understandable because their food is PHENOMENAL. Recommend coming outside of peak as the parking in the area in minimal.
Highly recommend the Sandwhich which has a fun oriental twist with the beef.

First time dining here and was kinda underwhelmed by the look and feel of the restaurant. The staff were a little lack lustre too. My beef vermicelli salad was very nice and had lots of good fresh flavour. Not sure if I was here at a bad time or what but there was no real atmosphere. Might try again.

Had a wonderful meal at Picnic. Ordered the exotic mushroom and hash. Best hash I’ve tasted. Portion size was huge and I couldn’t finish my meal. Had a radical action juice which was fresh and refreshing.

Really nice breakfast! Looked small at first but was super filling and tasty! Coffee was really nice! The cafe had a nice atmosphere and the staff were lovely, the prices were pretty reasonable as well. I’d go back again!

Went for breakfast Sunday morning. Shared the pumpkin toast and the pannacotta. The service was quick and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.

The pumpkin was sweet and the haloumi, procutto and nuts all matched perfectly.

The pannacotta was light and had a lovely consistency. The marshmallows and seeded biscuit added texture.

The coffee was Fonnzie and Abbott. My iced latte wasn't overly strong but was nice. Would be keen to try the rest of the menu. The drinks specials look epic and the giant muffins looked pretty awesome too.

I didn't enjoy my breakfast here. Service was seriously lacking. I was ignored by the guy making coffee for 5 minutes - this was while holding a large, wriggling 11 month old. Finally when a young girl walked behind the counter I thought here we go, but she ignored me as well and started stacking plates! Both hot coffees and breakfasts were placed straight in front of the two babies in high chairs. Seriously wtf?!?!? I get that you probably don't have kids but do you have any common sense? My breakfast was a smear of beetroot dip with a Macca's hash brown on top and two eggs. The only saving grace was that the eggs were perfectly poached, otherwise it was a small, very blah breakfast. Definitely won't be returning.

Food here is good but service is pretty ordinary. One female staff member in particular definitely doesn't want to be there - have witnessed the same demeanour from her on three different occasions now.

Fresh food, good portion, friendly service, great coffee, what more can u ask😋love their special menu on black board, change seasonally and the classic hash benedict so yum

Picnic cafe is a hidden gem located in a quiet street. Our orders were taken from our table and the food came out quite fast. The vegan pancakes looked different compared to your normal pancakes but I couldn't wait to try them! It was a very pretty looking dish. The ice cream was really nice and when paired with the pancakes each mouthful was delicious! Coffee is good too.
Chantel Charchalis
Vegan pancakes and vegan beetroot fritters don't exist on their new menu.. learnt the hard way after driving half an hour for these 2 items. Nothing worthy of ordering here for vegans unless you pick out ingredients and still get charged same cost.
Bel Emiluý
This is such a cute place. Lovely to sit in and good food. There were no tables available when we got there. The staff member was not overly helpful in letting us know this. However when we got a eventually got a seat the service was good.

I live nearby and come here with friends regularly. The food is outstanding - fresh, creative and delicious. The cafe is bright and colourful. Because this place is so great, sometimes it gets really, really busy which is a pain if you want a quiet morning, but because of the open windows it is still easy to hold a conversation.

Picnic is a classic go-to spot in Camp Hill but have found the food and service hit and miss lately. Some weekends the service is fast and attentive and the food is on point, other times it is slow and food a little off (minor things such as poached eggs you ask to be soft but come semi hard boiled).

Everything was great. Except the service, it was slow and they forgot part of our order. We ordered coffee and a muffin and the muffin was forgotten and it took another 30 mins to bring the muffin out once we raised the issue with them.

Eventually I can arrange to have brekkie at this place (last two time were due to closing for holiday) this morning. Venue is comparatively larger than the other competitors down the road. Ordered my flat white and a Japanese Soba Salad (I was told by the waitress that it is not a big portion). Coffee came in with very nice coffee art and tasted right for my palate. Soba salad came in next with a bowl. I felt comfortable by the look of it because it was the right portion size for me. There were heaps diced pork belly mixed that Japanese Soba with slices of cucumber and other vegetables. They all matched well with the sauce and the proteins just good enough for me to digest in the morning section. Bingo! I got the right combination of my brekkie order.
Lucy
I ordered bacon and eggs, which was quite good. A friend ordered the peanut butter acai bowl which was amazing! Always very busy, food did take a while to come out but definitely worth it!!

My parents go to Picnic all the time and I have wanted to try it out for a while so I tagged along this morning!! We were seated fast which was lucky, it was packed. Despite it being so busy, the waiters were quick with bringing out coffees and juices and our meals also came pretty quickly. One thing which was a bit of a downer was that I got my meal around 10 or so minutes before my family, I was nearly done by the time they got theirs.
I ordered the acai bowl. I have never tried one before and have wanted to for ages. I must say, it was very refreshing!! Tasty as well, the coconut flakes and granola went well with the smoothie. I'd love to try their pitaya bowl as well!!
My parents both ordered the bacon and eggs, their one dislike was that the bread wasn't toasted enough. Other than that, they were perfect.
Overall, Picnic is a great breakfast/brunch spot with options for everyone (inc vegan!). The service is great and so is the food. I will be back asap, the vegan pancakes are calling me.

Fantastic breakfast place! We came here on Easter Monday at 10 so it was very crowded. We waited 15 mins for a table of 2. I ordered the vegan pancakes and my friend ordered the easter special- waffle french toast with loads of chocolate. The pancakes were pretty good (3.5/5) but were really tough and chewy. The icecream was amazing- couldn't even tell it was vegan! (4.5/5) The waffle french toast was OMG amazing (5/5) The french toast was oh so soft and the same coconut icecream was used :)

Tucking down from an otherwise pretty standard suburban street, what you come across here is almost like a little urban village with several great offerings standing right there in a row. To any residents in the adjacent housing, this must be a gold mine for deciding to go out and have a meal or get a coffee, particularly when someone comes over. Starting a streak here, quality is definitely important in all aspects - especially service and food - and with two offerings from the Venzin group standing side-by-side, it should be ever more apparent.

In coming up to a landmark review, there was an initial mud-mapped plan about where to go beforehand and managing it so that it landed gracefully in meeting it. However, benefit of hindsight would have seen it be Easter around the time the plan materialised which always throws it into a tizzy. Being adaptable, that was for a later time; back to the drawing board was to find places open upon the Easter Sunday. One of the places that was open was Picnic in Camp Hill, and that being not too far away was the go.

Therefore, after getting woken up in the morning and throwing the day's gear on, it was off to here. Just needing a bit of a wait around until the real opening hours, biding the time proved effective in getting a good seat before it started to fill up. When the news spreads about it being open, along with how well regarded it is, there is no doubting why that happened.

From personal experience coming here, this visit was the first time I paid attention to it. With it having the doors closed for the time being, I was not aware how spacious it was until they opened up the wooden shutter. From seeing across the road, I thought the waitress placing the seating out the front indicated that - but it more indicated how popular it got, plus how they accommodated to get more clients serviced. There is something about the design that I can't quite put my finger on - it is not really rustic per se, though it has an old-time feel to it as well. The spaciousness, complete with lovely throughflow of air are a great combination, and it just feels so comfortable.

Say, speaking about service ... they have it in the bag right here. From the minute that you walk in, you are noted and brought to your table. It is all about getting all the small touches here (note: getting the waters) and being efficient (note: timing it just right, and delivering it efficiently) along with the casual attitude and professional mentality. This is a signature of the Venzin group, and the explosion of popularity will mean more demand, and getting the efficient customer service model is the main aspect that is needed. While I have gotten used to the counter service, who does not prefer it by table? That is the case here, and it feels more personable in all honesty. You didn't even need to get up from the table for them to start clearing it after you were done, which adds in a whole new record for speed - and that is when you have stuck a fork in it.

Just as a head's up, it is likely the menu also changes from time to time with seasons or depending on availability. From a scour of the menu, it is not really fair to say it is mot of the same since there are enough items which are unusual on the breakfast menu, at the same time it is a general range that usually has some twist made upon it. As someone who does the cooking at home, it sort of represents the not-quite professional mindset making food where they know a few good dishes and a few hat tricks as well (such as a signature or adapting from a known recipe). With it being said, this is more with the professional flair than anything; and as a second paraphrasing in a row, it would take a lot of raw talent to present it this homely.

Getting back on track, they produce an all-day breakfast that has something for everyone on it, and a few more solid items at lunch time. The drinks menu is coffee, tea, milkshakes/smoothies, juice, soda, wines and beers. There is also a cake cabinet with all sorts of sweet treats, and they produce a specials section on a regular basis.

First port of business first, and that is getting some coffee. The coffee in which they use is from Fonzie-Abbott, and that was enough to pique my interest from when I saw the sign out the front. To me, that is enough that needs to be said - it is the perfect blend of coffee, and one that will . They were using their signature Highside blend, which is even more a slight optimistic sight. It will wake you up from even the most groggy part of hypnopomp, it is that strong. Plus a strong coffee is not enough to be good, it also has to have a nice taste and they often provide it with Foznie-Abbott. Each time that I have had a coffee with this bean, I have not been disappointed. For quite a while, I was touting that it was not under-rated per se - but more so, not utilised enough. Now I have seen the day it has become widespread, and unlike hipster brethren I will remain loyal to it.

Now for aforementioned adapting to a known recipe, every damn place seems to want to make their own twist on the egg's benedict or risk getting left in the dust. Most of them choose to have a different topping, while the guys at Picnic do it the other way - with the base. Instead of an English muffin or toast, you have waffles, and the choices are either bacon or haloumi. I went with the bacon, and got it cooked crispy. As well as bacon, this sucker is topped with pecerino cheese, poached eggs (as per usual, ordered soft) and an apple-cider hollandaise. This was very delicious.

One of the best tells when getting the eggs poached soft is to stab it. When the yolk bleeds everywhere like it is liquid, then you have gold on your hands. In fact, come to think of it - the combination of this and waffles is a lot more shrewd just upon writing it. The eggs were really good, soft and definitely from a quality farmer. The bacon was well cooked, crispy in parts and a generous amount on top. Since apple cider vinegar and pecerino both have a pretty sharp flavour, these combined created quite a distinct hit and the cheese was practically melting on top on the eggs, making them stretchy and gooey. Finally, the waffles were solid and had a small bit of syrup mixed into the batter, and were occasionally pretty crunchy. Best of all, the serving size was generous (always a plus for me) and had me filled up for most of the day.

Since they were on the breakfast menu, and I subconsciously like to order them on the side at odd times, I also got us a side of fries to share. These are without a doubt, some of the best fries in which I have tried for every such a long time. Steve Brimblecombe was impressed beyond belief. These were quite crispy, very hot on the outside with soft potato on the inside, and the seasoning was a simple one, but it was generously done nonetheless. Plus, for the serving size as a side you cannot argue for value.

Any cafe or takeaway worth their salt will realise how much quality could hinge - or be inferred - from how well they do their fries, one of the simplest and most straightforward of items. If is decent enough, that will do; but if it is as good as this, even as a mere side, then that will speak volumes about their skills and how much they pay attention to quality. And that is how you sell it.

The Venzin group has done it again. After remembering just how much I liked their Woolloongabba branch "PawPaw", I was excited to go here. And after going here, I remember why I liked it so much, and many of the same reasons for that are present with Picnic. A good place does have to serve marginally decent food at a bare minimum, and extra credit will is awarded for attention-to-detail in quality plus even more credit on top of that is when they either get innovative or start doing twists upon the meals. That is pretty much what sticks out about the place, along with good customer service that is quick and efficient. There is a good reason for them to be well regarded, and it is a combination of all the factors that go into the ideal customer service experience. Each one is paid its due attention, and you can't teach that.

TL;DR: High quality fare is produced here, done with customer service that takes the best aspects of both professional restaurants and your local cafe, and fixes it in one neat package. That is all you need to know about the Venzin group. If you haven't had the pleasure of dining at one of their locations, find your nearest one ASAP and try it for yourself. You will thank me later.

Excellent coffee, and a regular spot for breakfast. The waffles with bacon on the new menu is brilliant and the quinoa nasi goreng is always great.
Quarter Strength
Cute cafe (Queenslander feel); bit balmy but the kitchen service is quick & the waitstaff super attentive. Was hoping for a juicier patty on my Beef Burger but the flavours were good, & the fries EXCELLENT.
Rebecca
Nice little cafe in East Brisbane with a comprehensive menu that follows the same format as its sister cafes Paw Paw and Piggyback. The food was good

Amazing! Really enjoyed my mushrooms (asked for no toast & a side of salmon), still dreaming of it. Bit noisy inside but very nice. Staff were friendly too.
I Love Food
Dined here for breakfast on Sat with 2 friends as I'm visiting from Melb. You can't book this place but we were lucky enough to get a table when we arrived at 9am. Very busy, noisy but funky place. I ordered the eggs and bacon with scrambled eggs. Very nice. We all had ordered chai's which took a long time to arrive. By the time our food arrived we ordered another round of chai's which never arrived so when they cleared our meals we re-ordered again and they eventually arrived. Service was ok but very slow in getting our food and especially our few rounds of chai. Place was packed most of the time we were there and quietened out by late morning when we left. My friends ordered the smashed avo and salmon hash benny and enjoyed their meals also. This place is within walking distance to my friend's place so I hope to return again next time I'm in Qld as enjoyed a good breaky here.

A very busy, bustling and noisy little cafe with a nice selection on their menu including an all day breakfast. Quick service by the friendly and efficient staff. Will definitely come back to try the pink pitaya bowl or granola with co-yo

I love the food but coming for the rainbow coffee was a huge letdown... It came out blue with green and tasted like heated up milk.... Don't fall for the hype..
Jayne Michéle
Very good service. Field mushroom with grilled haloumi was delicious, especially with crispy bacon. Yummy. Shame it wasn't bigger with more seating inside, particularly winter time but I loved it.
Georgia
Went here last weekend for a family breakfast - fantastic food with generous portions. The staff were friendly. Great variety on the menu. Our table had a selection of things including the acai bowl (best one I've ever had) and the smashed avo and the bacon and eggs. Now I understand why it's so popular! I tried to go back the following day with a friend but it was impossible to get a table.. As much as I loved the place, I didn't want to line up for 20 minutes to eat there.
Adriana Tahir
I had the buckwheat pancake with a side of smoked salmon. The pancake were drenched with maple syrup, they were literately swimming in a pool of sweetness! I'll definitely ask for the syrup to be separated next time - the pancakes were very very sweet and I was glad I had something savoury to nibble on after every few bites.
Nadine
Went for breaky, once seated one of the waitresses basically chucked a bottle of water, glasses and menus on the corner of the table and rushed off. I ordered the Pink Pitaya special which I had great hopes for as I love acai bowls, my partner ordered the avocado/poached eggs on toast with a side of bacon. After his arrived I waited until he almost finished his meal before I received mine and I was gutted to see it served in a microwavable, take home, plastic tub. When dining in a restaurant/cafe I don't care what the dish is, serve it in an actual dish. I felt so weird and actually embarrassed eating out of a plastic tub, sitting in a cafe, it would have taken no effort to put it in an actual bowl. A girl nearby ordered the ace bowl off the breakfast menu and it was served in a proper bowl, not plastic. The atmosphere was good despite the poor timing of serving the two meals and lack of respect with the serving of their dish, the pitaya bowl did taste really nice, my parter absolutely loved his dish and the coffee was nice, it was just a shame they couldn't treat their dish with more respect.

A favourite breakfast spot! Totally delicious food- so many good options on the menu, it's always hard to decide. Good service & atmosphere.

Picnic is a great cafe in the back streets of camp hill. The menu is diverse with a few staples that draw you back. My wife and I have been about six times and it is always busy and good.
Lifelovetravelfood
Top find! This great little spot was perfect for a weekend breakfast with friends. We arrived at 9 and put our names down on the waiting list but only had to wait about five minutes. We did have to ask for two more chairs as it was busy and staff forgot we were a table of four.

Once seated our coffee orders were taken straight away and their coffee is excellent! They have almond milk which is great!

I ordered acia bowl which was topped with granola, coconut, chia, banana and strawberries. I was warned my breakfast would come out before the cooked breakfasts but it arrived about 15 minutes before the others which was a bit annoying.

The rest of the group had the breakfast tacos with pulled pork and avocado smash with haloumi. The tacos were more like nachos and had delicious spices and flavours but perhaps a little small. Everyone really enjoyed their breakfasts and I was impressed with the menu. Good variety of items and a little different to the usual breakfast fare. They still have classic bacon and eggs if you're not feeling very adventurous.

This was a delicious cafe and one I'd highly recommend. Yum
Laura Blake
Went for breakfast, loved it! A delicious and different menu - rye instead of sourdough was a refreshing option. Attentive staff. Good atmosphere.
Becandfood
Overall was a good experience. We had a new waitress who took our order and misunderstood the menu, so we had to wait quite a bit for our meals. However we were compensated for that which was great service. The meals were great especially their buckwheat pancakes! And their range of fresh juices is great!
Dm91
Great cafe. Can get very busy on the weekends. The smashed avocado is delicious with a side of haloumi and or bacon. The picnic board used to by my favourite item so hopefully this comes back again. Milkshakes are amazing too especially the salted caramel. Service seems to be very slow when it's quiet which resulted in cold food once which was a shame. Overall service and food is great.
Ali1618
Can't fault this little place. I ordered the sauteed mushrooms with smoked salmon and was not disappointed. Flavoursome and filling! My husband and friend ordered the avo smash and coconut fritters respectively and both commented on how tasty their meal was. The coffee was perfect and the orange/ginger/tumeric juice was really refreshing and different. Excellent value for money - I always finish my restaurant meals bit I cogent finish this one! And I'm a hungry, breastfeeding mum!! The service was fast and friendly (and the restaurant was very full) and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Toddler and baby friendly with a great, cosy atmosphere. Our new favourite breakfast joint. Will highly recommend!

Fantastic for breakfast. Menu was varied, with plenty of sweet and savoury options, and many options for those with special requirements (I'm vegan so having multiple menu options is fantastic). The pancakes were a work of art, in which the chef displayed an extremely high level of skill.
Loses half a mark for somewhat bored staff, but they served us quickly and got the order spot on, even if they acted like they'd rather be literally anywhere else.
Kate Hudson
Had breakfast on a Thursday morning - ordered smashed avo (w/ salmon) $14.50 + $4.50 for the salmon = $19 in total. Fairly pricey for an "avo" breaky but it was quite worthy. My meal was very nice, the poached eggs were slightly runny (perfect) and I enjoyed the use of rye bread rather than white. The cafe wasn't bustling which was nice, and the brunette girl who served us was lovely.
Jules
Absolutely delicious!! Awesome customer service too. On a busy Sunday morning we were served our delicious meals within 15 mins and their milkshakes are the best as well!!
Sophie
Had breakfast here on a weekday and it was fairly quiet. The food was nice, the sautéed mushrooms were great and the buckwheat pancakes looked good. Service was friendly.

Never had a bad meal here!
On weekends its best to get there at 7am!
Anytime after that it tends to be a bit noisy!
Love how there are different specials every week!
Corn fritters always my fav!
N&M
Beautifully decorated little cafe in the Martha St precinct. We had to get takeaway that day, so we didn't get to enjoy the otherwise relaxing atmosphere there.
Food was served quickly, and for us, it came packaged in cardboard boxes.
The most amazing thing about my avo on toast was the rye bread - wow, one of the best pieces of bread I've had. Fluffy and soft on the inside, with a crunchy and crisp crust. Unfortunately both my eggs were overcooked.
Also ordered their adaptation of nasi goreng: it was soggy and just not quite right!
Melif80
Been here a few times for breakfast and it never disappoints :) Great food, great service and chilled environment. Recommend the fritters, and be sure to ask for your coffee to be extra hot if getting a mug size as I find it gets cold to quick!
Leah
I love the Buckwheat Pancakes! Wholesome, filling and delicious. I will be back for more. I wasn't a fan of the coffee, but the food and service was great!
Natalie
Picnic cafe is a lovely place to come for breakfast. The buckwheat pancakes were delicious! I thought the pancake was so filling and incredibly tasty!! The coffee is okay and the service was friendly. I really enjoyed my morning here and look forward to visiting again.
EatOrDie
Have eaten here with the family quite a few times and it has been absolutely consistent. The staff are well trained, organised and keep track of arrival order well - this is important as there is always a waiting list outside. The ambience is friendly and inviting without being too casual or stuffy. The food is good solid staples with some high quality relishes and supporting flavours. The coffee is good, the tea is flavoursome without the cheaper blend tannins that plague many Brisbane cafes.

Even thought there is always a waiting list, the staff manage this extremely well. Tables are cleared very efficiently and the wait is never painful. They manage to do all this without ever coming across as pushy or making the current customers feel rushed or unimportant (not an easy task). The food is fresh and delicious - satisfying on every occasion. Our favourite is breakfast there but based on the standard of the food when we have attended, I am sure the rest of the menu is as thoroughly thought out and consistently delivered.

A well run business with a lot of care for it's customers. Absolutely recommend.
Nicenursie
Definitely recommend this place for breakfast. Bright cheery atmosphere. Great coffee and beautiful tasty food. No bookings taken so be sure to arrive early as this is one popular place!
Phil
Love this place. Great & friendly service, not a long wait for food. Food is great & wasn't waiting long for it. Nice Coffee & i love their Smoothies. Enjoyed their Parmy night & will be going to their Burrito night for sure.

Came in on a weekday and it was nice and quiet. Staff were friendly. Coffee was made well. Food was delicious and came out quickly. Great asset to the local area.

Good friendly service, good options for food. We were served quickly and the food came out in a timely manner, although they were busy. Coffee made well. A good experience, no wonder it's s local favourite.

Tried Picnic, Camp Hill for the very first time yesterday Sunday 9th August for breakfast. We had in tow two of our sons and a friend of theirs. Lovely, warm friendly atmosphere. With very prompt service from the taking of our orders and the 5 meals arriving on our table was less than
15 mins even though they were extremely busy. Staff were bright happy and bubbly and very mindful of the little details like replacing our table water. We will be returning and have passed on 3 recommendations to family and friends.
George
For me the best breakfast spot in the Martha St precinct. Prompt service and welcoming. Breakfast items different from the too too usual smashed avo ( ps why has this disrespectful term taken on. Is it a Jamie Oliver contagion?) or eggs. Big servings. Kimchi fritters were a little weird. Coffee ok. Noisy due to wooden floors and scraping chairs. I'll be back. Recommend.

Breakfast at Picnic is perfection. The coffee, cold drinks, menu variety and quality of food is exceptional. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Still yet to try lunch as I can't pass on breakfast!

I walked in with a hangover, was served within 2 minutes, coffee arrived in another 5 with food following that within 20 minutes - GOLD! All the while they were packed! Amazing service, cute little spot & crazy busy - well done! Totally impressed.

Love their açai bowls, always enjoy their coffee and their Parma night is the best in Brisbane. They serve a lot of health options too ..........

Never again. Went there on a Sunday holiday long weekend. The place was very busy and we had a party of four including an elderly relative who can't stand long. We asked for a table and told it would be a few minutes. We waited and waited while two tables for two stood empty on the footpath dining area. Asked if we could have them and was told "no. we don't move tables together". WTF? they were small folding timber picnic tables! We waited some more and then couples came in and were seated. The two tables remained empty. We asked how much longer as our elderly guest was not coping well with the standing and after glancing around inside, the waitress said we could sit in the middle of a long communal table. Great idea! I wonder how the 90 yr old will swing her leg over the bench seat?! After asking once again about a seat (this is 20 mins now) they relented and said all four of us could sit at one of the small vacant tables. Apparantly they can move two extra chairs to the table but not put two small tables together. This is on the footpath mind you! Anyway, we look at the order and nothing jumps out because it's a bit of a try hard menu. We order bacon and eggs, some fritters, and some breakfast cereal with fruit etc and coffees. Coffee ok. Food was nice - esp. the fritters and serving sizes were generous but got a shock with the bill. Meals are over priced and then a holiday surcharge was applied.

Oh hum!. Not a great spot - too expensive and uncaring, food is ok but not great and not worth returning to. Advertises no swappies, which is ok except if you are a vego maybe asking that instead of two eggs you could have two mushrooms it not likely to mean the end of your profit in fact maybe you get yourself a return customer - these days there a so many lovely places in and around Brissy that if you don't care to care about customers you loose them!
Sim
Picnic uploads trading hours on Instagram for Easter long weekend 8-3 on Monday. Walk down at 2:30 and it's closed. The excuse to say that info was incorrect is crap. Obviously because business wasn't the best the last few hours is probably the real reason.
Catdog
I like this place, always have a table even when it's busy, yummy food, not the cheapest but what is in brisbane?? Good brekky spot, does get really hot on hot days though with no AC!
Grumpalumpagum
Good coffee... Terrible vibe. Hey so your staff are pretty rude and uncheerful. You should probably sort that out.
Brisbane Family
Overcharged and not what we ordered. Service was slow and food was not as per our order. Brought this to the attention of the cashier that everything was not ok, a slight apology was provided and that was the extent. After getting home, I concluded that we were overcharged. I brought this to the owners attention, an apology was provided. She also was going to send some vouchers to encourage a return visit. That was prior to XMAS 2014.

In discussions with friends, it would appear this was not an isolated incident.
MTC
Hidden charges! Happy we tried, wouldn't go back.
Dined at Picnic for Sunday breakfast.
The food was great, coffee good, serving sizes generous. We had a pram and the waitress accommodated us easily.
However, at the time of ordering I asked if there was a surcharge for Gluten Free bread and was told there wasn't so we both ordered it. When I went to pay there was a surcharge for the GF bread on the bill and when I explained that I'd asked and been told there wasn't - there was no apology and it wasn't removed from the bill. Why not advertise the surcharge?
Andrew
I have to agree with the other reviewers and say that the service was pretty poor. That said our food was fantastic and far better than I expected. We all had a variety of breakfasts and we could not fault the food. The potato cake was the best I have had and the ingredients appeared to be of high quality.
Breanneaoliver
Bad service. The food was nice if a bit overpriced and most of the service was good except for one girl at the counter who was utterly rude. We asked if we could split the bill and her response was "1 bill only on the weekends". There were no smiles or pleasantries at all. The other girls were very friendly but the one girl at the counter has turned me off ever going back. Sad how one employee can ruin and experience and loose customers.
Mrout
Well overpriced. Paying $20 to eat breakfast from a dog bowl? $4.50 to add bacon or haloumi to an already overpriced plate is just a rip off. Mediocre coffee at best. Waitress asked if everything was ok but didn't wait for an answer.... Will not be back.
Kendall
Love it! Great atmosphere and the staff are so wonderful. Coffee is amazing and the food is even better (they can actually poach their eggs correctly!)
Will be returning.
Mootron
Ive been here twice now, once on a busy sunday morning and the other time on a quiet weekday morning. Both times the food took a very long time to come out but it was worth it! The first time I got the mushroom & leek baked eggs, the best ive had ever! They know how to cook their baked eggs to perfection
Pattycakesrgreat
Perfect Brunch. I had the signature picnic plate and it was the perfect brekky tapas. My friend had the mushroom and leek baked eggs and was also impressed. The staff were friendly without being intrusive. Great coffee, atmosphere, food, service and value.
Rebekah Rae
Snobby, pretentious and not worth the expense or wait for food. Popped in to order a coffee and stood there for 15 minutes waiting for someone to so much as acknowledge me. The waitress and barista were too busy flirting behind the counter and when I finally got their attention I was treated like I was interrupting their day. Their menu looks appealing but not worth going back to try. It wasn't a nice way to start the day!

A breakfast must!!! Loved the feeling of this place from the moment we arrived. Such a modern little cafe with a great open shop front to contemplate life on a Sunday morning. The Picnic plate is amazing, great combo of ingredients featured on the plate. The English breakfast was enjoyed immensely by my partner, who raved about the beans. Service was very friendly. I look forward to returning to try the baked eggs and mix it up by doing lunch here too.
Cassie
My new favorite spot. The food was absolutely delicious! Loved every mouthful. We had the baked eggs and canadian breakfast and both were equally delicious for different reasons. The service was great and the cafe was very baby friendly.
Ill be coming back - there are 5 other dishes that i agonized over before ordering that i need to try!

YES PICNIC. This place is the greatest... I've only recently returned to Brisbane after 10 years in Melbourne so was a little worried that Brisbane wouldn't be able to live up to my high quality cafe expectations.... imagine my delight when I discovered this little gem down the street! Delicious food.... whether you want something healthy or a treat you won't be short of options... plus the coffee is AWESOME. It's got such a great vibe that I find myself making excuses to go there ALL THE TIME. And I'm saving the best till last here... the staff are amazing. Actually they just feel like a bunch of awesome friends now. Even when it's crazy busy in there, they're always super friendly and really do go over and above! LOVE LOVE LOVE

A PARTY FOR THE PALETTE. Discovered this cute little food abode on a directionless drive one day and me and my stomach have never looked back. I was actually on a hunt for avocado that morning and my my did this place pull through. Here we go, ok I'm gonna try and not get too emotional in this review. This place has actually become my second home. Straight up. Best food, people, service, prices and atmosphere. There's nothing better than walking into a cafe that plays throwback Destiny's Child with the best Nutella muffins that have ever been known to man. Coffee at Picnic is 11/10 and do not get me started on the sweet cabinet. Shoutout to the pastry chef for always testing my self restraint. The best thing is you can take ANYONE here, there are always such an extensive range of healthy/cheeky (not for the calorie conscious) snacks and everything is delicious. I came here many times (everyday) as a vegan and always had plenty of options. I've always found it hard to find cafes that really go out of their way to serve up the freshest produce and ingredients. So much respect, love and support to this cafe and the team here. xxx
Breakfast Club
Average. Pros- Food, coffee and juice were nice (nothing amazing but decent)
- nice atmosphere
Cons- It took ages to get our food and drinks and the food was cold by the time it got to us, wait staff were very inefficient, parking was difficult.

Overall, it was okay. I would give it another chance but only go at time when its unlikely to be busy. I think an experienced restaurant floor manager would really help.
Westie
I think they forgot to bring the salad on the Picnic. I had the pulled pork for $17 and basically got meat and carbohydrates with a slither of something green. If you like salads with your meal, this is not the place to go. The meal was rich with nothing to cut the fat. Very disappointing.
Possumosborne
Very disappointing. We thought with Raymund's experience with the lovely Thai restaurant close by, that his daughter's eatery would be equally appealing. This is not the case. Poor food, poor service, poor wine. How disappointing. We will not be back.
Morgan.zeeno
Corn and Zucchini Fritters. So light and fluffy

Very disappointed. Was o.... Very disappointed.

Was once one of my favourite weekend breakfast spots when it first opened up.. been there two times within the last month and both times something in my order has been wrong and rude staff.

I ordered a chocolate ganche drink and it tasted just like milk with a little bit of cocoa on the top, disappointed. They wouldn't swap my ham for bacon without an extra cost, which they used to do with no hesitation.

Sad to see a place that used to be one of my favourite places for breakfast, standards drop.
Rachel
I have given picnic another go after two poor experiences previously. Today the food was pretty good - we all had lunch. The service was woeful - the waitress couldn't tell us the specials, we had to get up to get our own menus after 10 minutes of waiting. After another 20 minutes we had to advise the wait staff that we were ready to order. Similarly with drinks and the bill we had to leave the table to get service. And it wasn't busy with only about one third of the tables occupied. Also they ran out of the wine and beer that we were drinking.
Rob Newcombe
Worth a Visit For Sure. Fantastic coffee - my wife normally finds Campos coffee a bit on the bland side, but commented on how well balanced her flat white was at Picnic. Food was great all round, from the felafel salad (with broad beans in the felafel mix, if I'm not mistaken) to the jaffle of the day (pesto cream cheese with leg ham and tomato) and the fish of the day (panko crumbed whiting with crispy spuds and pea mash). If 'hipster' stuff like jam jars for glasses and enameled serving wear bothers you, I'd say try and get past that then have a nice meal at Picnic anyway. Service was quick and friendly enough, especially for it being a busy Saturday.
Yummtown
Fantastic!. Have been here once before & returned over the weekend to celebrate my birthday over brunch. Cute cafe & always busy, but never wait more than 10 mins for a table. Great service, good coffee & orders are always prompt. Food is delicious & looks great on the plate. Good variety on the menu, including for Vegetarians & Gluten Free. Good prices too. Can't go wrong! Love this place.
Annaleigh
Amazing food - looks and tastes great! not your typical brekky food (still serves some usual brekky dishes of course). service was quick. food came out quickly and to top it all off - they serve Campos coffee! will be back!
Traceyhurn
Great food and pretty good coffee. Live locally and we pop down to picnic once or twice a month, usually on a weekend. It is busy but the food is consistently good and the service is usually pretty good too. Portion sizes are decent and there is a sufficient selection to choose from. They serve Campos coffee which I am okay with but my usual preference is DiBella or Merlo - just sayin! Overall we score it an 8.
Diner From Brisbane
Slow but steady. The food took 50 minutes to come out, but it was tasty and potion sizes were fair when they did get to our table. Customer service was really great!! The place is nice and clean and themed simply. If it weren't for the food taking nearly an hour, this place would be a regular go-to.
Phoebe Reid-Smith
After seeing how bust Picnic was, I decided I might give it a go. I went for breakfast and the food was pretty ordinary, coffee was terrible and I waited for an hour. Staff were friendly though. Would suggest visiting in a pickle, down the road, far better experience there.
Gabby212
First time and it was horrible. Horrible customer service. Horrible food - mushrooms were over cooked. Fool took 30 minutes to make a salad and eggs other customers who came after us got their meals before mine. Never going back very disappointed

Thanks for an amzing breakfast PicNic Team!! Loved my corn frittats!! #bestbreakfastinbrisbane
Emma
The service at picnic was horrendous. We had a group of 5 and waited an hour to be seated after being told the wait would be 15 minutes. There was no effort of the staff to push tables together or attempt to move though other groups who had been seated and not eating for over 45 minutes. There was also no offer of drinks or a cold drink of water, even after standing out in the hot sun for the morning. The food was also sub-optimal. My two year old son could have cooked a better egg on toast with haloumi and avocado. Would not go back.
Solo Diner
Been here twice now and both times had a pleasant experience. Went there for lunch and found the menu to be a little disappointing for vegetarians, but the ice frappe was awesome on a hot day. Service was very ordinary on this day until the manager arrived and they got a lot more attentive.
Went for breakfast recently and it was great. Lots of options! The corn fritters were sensational!
My only (slight) negative is that you feel like you are being pushed out a bit. Understandable because it is a popular place-it's not the sort of place to sit in read the paper over breakfast. Great food, great decor. I'll be back.
Krissi Weiß
The food is lovely and the ambience is top notch but the coffee is consistently inconsistently. There is so much potential in this place but thus far it's falling short. Furthermore, if you're wanting to attract any commuter traffic during the week you need to bite the bullet and have more service staff on. One person for floor and coffees is ludicrous. There is never an urgency on that coffee weekend or weekday but I will forgive the staff on the occasions I see only one person on. Staff - the first expense owners cut and the first impression customers get. Foolish folks.
Cabsavie
Nice Breakfast Venue. Nice cafe, great corn fritters but the bacon was disappointing & flavourless. The picnic concept is fun but the enamel plates are not suitable for the size of the meals. The cute looking cutlery is flimsy and feels like it is going to break in your hands.
A great breakfast venue needs to do fresh juice. Picnic does a daily juice according to the waitress that consists of what they have on the day. However, it tasted very like watery commercially made juice to me.
A few improvements and this will be a fabulous place. Definitely worth a try.
Zoe Mollenhauer
Wonderful service, and I absolutely love their pumpkin gnocchi! Beautiful set up inside aswell.
Dave
Delicious!. Excellent food, great service. We ordered the picnic board and a simple poached eggs with bacon and avocado on the side - the portions were huge and perfectly cooked. Campos coffee also excellent.

We left feeling very full and satisfied, would definitely return!
Liz
Meh.. Went to see what all the fuss was about. Food was alright, small portions on small plates and expensive enough. Service was average, had to go and ask could we order. Was not blown away, there are better breaky places in Brisbane. Sorry we won't return.
Bridgiesquidgie
My New favourite. Best breakfast...best service....what more could you ask for
Taylordas
Great, will return. Breakfast delicious, atmosphere and service fantastic will definitely return

Enjoyable breakfast - good atmosphere, attentive service and great food. Ham hock beans are delicious! Busy little spot too!!
Dana123
Undecided. I went there for lunch, but not many options for lunch food, more like all day breakfast, but was wanting lunch. Also the music was terrible I wanted to walk out it was annoying & finally when the worst music I ever heard finished the next track was also irritating.
Food Critic
Lovely cafe in Camp Hill on Martha Street. The staff were friendly, the food was nice and our Campos coffees were spot on perfect that Mr B and myself had two coffees each. We are looking forward to returning and trying the dinner menu.
David
Ability to make good coffee is 101 for any restaurant or cafe but unfortunately Picnic fails this miserably. The coffee is so weak it just tastes like hot milk as is also stupidly expensive.
Wn
Hmmm not sure what happened... Maybe it was an off day but all the dishes we ordered weren't very impressive. Hopefully it will be back to its usual high standards next time we go!
Jennifer Kate
Vibrant cafe with an equally alluring menu.It scores highly in all aspects expect for it's rather suburban location. Saying that, it is definitely worth the journey.
Henry
Food was nice - good egg free options for breakfast which is good for those of us who don't eat them - coffee was good, staff friendly .. Not in love with drinks served in jam jars but that's my only gripe! We will be back :)
Lauren
Good coffee, food needs work. This place is spacious and airy, and the picnic theme is sweet. The coffee is great, and the service is polite and friendly.

I've had a couple of good sandwiches here around lunch time, but the dinner I ate here recently was not great. The lamb cutlets were under-flavoured (and possibly the meat wasn't of restaurant quality?). The thrice-cooked chips sounded intriguing but were in fact just soggy and unbearably oily. The scallops were reasonably good though, and the rocket that came with the lamb was generous and fresh.

Also good was the $8/table for corkage - pretty reasonable.

I'll be back but would love to see a bit more finesse with the dinner food.

We just popped in for a quick early dinner with our 2 little ones and we weren't dissapointed. Food was good as was the service, we ordered 4 plates, sliders, chips, dips and gnocchi. The highlight of our visit was the lovely chef who played peeaboo with our 3 year old from the kitchen, he ended the game with a plate of huge strawberries for her. Adorable. Thank you for a lovely meal, we felt very welcomed.
D.sanchez
Love the fit out and the staff are all super friendly. I went there for opening week and the food was good. Went there again for breakfast this week and the food was sensational so seems to be getting better each time. Will definitely have to try out the lunch menu.
Cheekycat
Good looking cafe but lunch disappointing.. We went here on a Friday at 1.30 (lunch menu finishes at 2pm) . The staff were very friendly & they advised that the breakfast menu was also available until 2 pm. We didn't feel like the breakfast items & there were only 3 items on the lunch menu. One of these was unavailable so we were left with 2 options. I had the gnocchi & hubby had the burger. My gnocchi was served in a large enamel plate - this type of presentation may be linked to the theme of the place but it really didn't look that appetising. Unfortunately, the taste (or lack of taste) didn't make up for the presentation. It was bland & had no flavour.
Hubby had the burger which he said was ok. It was served with "thrice cooked chips" which were soft & soggy/oily. Maybe they should have only been cooked the once.
I also had a green smoothie - it was served in a jar rather than a glass which again fits in with the theme of the place but I'm afraid just doesn't look that appetising. This is just my personal preference so others may think this is quite quirky. Unfortunately this too was tasteless but at least it was healthy.
I do like the look and feel of Picnic and maybe the breakfast and tapas menu provide more tasty options, so I would not rule out ever going there again, especially as the service seemed to be friendly and staff eager to please, however they need to have a look at their lunch menu.
Buzz
Have been twice the service and coffee were good but both times very disappointed with the food.
Grace
Great cafe. I love brunch and this place is great for it! Being a vegetarian often limits my choices of food but not in this place! The lovely woman allowed me to substitute the ham for some mushrooms which may sound little to some but in many cafes they will not alter the smallest of things. So thank you for making my morning! The warm welcomes, great service and delicious food will make you come back. Great work, Picnic.
Emmett Roche
So stoked that I have recently purchased a place in coorparoo because this place has just become my new favorite Breaky/coffee joint. Long story short, epic coffee, epic Breaky and epic staff, do it.

Great Atmosphere!. Amazing vibe with great and consistent service.
Will be back to enjoy the all day breakfast!
Aimee
Went for dinner last night food was amazing! Service was quick and really friendly will defiantly be back to try the rest if the menu.

I went into Picnic cafe last Sunday around 4pm to check it out. I was lucky enough to see an acoustic duo playing inside the cafe. It really went well with the 4-5 beers I had and couldn't believe I got bacon, eggs and mushrooms serve to me at dinner time. Keep up the great work guys
Cheese Fiend
Really enjoyable egg's Benedict on corn bread. 10 minute wait to be seated saturday morning, but well worth it. Friendly service.

This week I visited Picnic Café. Now if you are from Brisbane and haven’t heard of Picnic Café then I am genuinely concerned. I can’t seem to escape the constant feed of Picnic Cafe on my Instagram... I went to Picnic Café and I was surprised. It wasn’t what I expected but still amazing. To be honest, I do not know what I was expecting but I walked into a professional café restaurant with a large industrial kitchen and ample seating space. I went on a Thursday morning and was expecting it to be somewhat quiet (being a week day and all) but the café was quite full (a tell tale sign that there is good food).

The fried chicken was tasty and juicy. The kale was tasty and the scrambled eggs were good too. I had a taste of the hot sauce and regretted not trying it earlier as it would have been a really nice accompaniment to the fried chicken, as I’m sure it was designed to be.

The wagyu beef patty was tender and super juicy, I'd have preferred it to have been almost less juicy as my soft bun disintegrated within a few bites of the burger. The caramelised onions were very sweet

A licensed cafe & restaurant that caters full day breakfasts, lunch and dinner, and a cabinet chock full of fresh cakes, pastries & salads - don’t forget to peek at their daily specials before ordering! great stripes of paint on the ceiling kick back with a piña colada green smoothie wagyu burger with thrice cooked fries my picnic board! cool touch with the street light globes & Edison bulbs! reminds me of Benjamin Hubert’s labware pendant lights me wannnnntttttt Picnic 12 Martha Street, Camp Hill

Maybe because of the rainy weather, I wanted something chocolatey and hence I ordered a cup of mocha. I was so happy with my decision.

All in all this quaint suburban cafe provides various food options at reasonable prices and the service throughout the restaurant was friendly and prompt. Check it our if you're in the area.

We found the service at Picnic Cafe to be quite efficient and everyone had a smiley face. If I wasn't on a diet, I would have dived right into the cake cabinet. It was so hard turning away from those sweet treats on display. Our breakfast plates were filling and fresh and I thought the menu prices were very reasonable too.
