First time to Govindas at West End and first time to West End since I was 10 or 11 years old. WOW !! A foodie like me will have a field day here.... Anyways, about Govindas the decor was more basic then I was expecting , however I did not come for the decor, I came for the food. I was invited by friends and yes the food was good. It was Vegetarian. It was healthy and delicious and it was in abundance. Great service, great food and delicious banana pudding. You can not go wrong with $12.70 for the feast plate inc their lemon and ginger drink and you can have seconds. Thanks very much , I will be back !! SARDS

If you're looking for some meat of any kind you better skip this place. If you're looking for some cheap, tasty, and guaranteed you won't leave hungry food then this is a good place. Come for the food and not the decor.

Govinda's West End is fantastic value for money.  The food is flavoursome and you won't leave hungry!  Don't expect gourmet but the affordability is the winner!

Great value especially for an all you can eat meal, and healthy and very delicious food. Meals are complete with generous main, dessert and drink. Whenever I eat here I'm never disappointed!

Myself and a fellow vego friend were venturing through West End. Of course, there's literally MILLIONS of options for us when it comes to food. After strolling down Boundary street several times we eventually decided to go for a nice quiet lunch at Govinda's. We both ordered the small meal which came with a vegetable curry, rice, vegetable koftas and flat bread. We sat down at a table overlooking some of West End which was quite nice.
The curry was tasty, so warming as well. There was a mix of vegetables, potatoes, carrot, capsicum and the sauce wasn't too strong and overpowering. The koftas were GREAT! They were covered in a tomato sauce which was to die for. The rice was good and accompanied the curry well. I actually really enjoyed my meal!
Govinda's is a lovely little restaurant, great for a quick meal. There's vegan options including desserts. I think Govinda's a bit underrated, I hope to see more people enjoying their hearty curries soon!

I really like this place. It's cheap, clean and the food is good. Don't expect a sit down restaurant with table service, it's just a small selection with a cafeteria style interior, but the dozen or so times I have been here have always been good. The staff are really friendly too and were happy to switch my friend's desert to a vegan desert at no extra cost.

This place is a pretty straight forward affair once you find the entrance. Do you like vegie food? Well Simba, you can have whatever the light touches for $13 here...

Love this place so much! The all you can eat feast is so so delicious. Everything is vegan except for dessert - you just have to ask for the vegan option (which is either a delicious raison/date ball or vegan choc mousse)! Such good value as well - about $11 for all you can eat (students) and a bit more for adults! Comes with a delicious lemon and ginger drink to help digest the food. Has a really cool west-end vibe as well.

Curries and rice taste amazing. Their dessert tastes amazing, their kofta balls used to have more flavour, I found when I went yesterday, they were really bland, even with the sauce. All that for $11.90, it is an amazing deal. 😊

Stomach pains strangely disappear when at Govinda's.. I went to Govinda's with the woman mid last week, and to be honest... I was bloody starved. I'd been on a journey that hadn't turned out so well, and I decided to stop eating until I got back to Brisbane from down south.

And to be honest.... I'm glad I did! I ended up only getting the basic meal to help my stomach ease into the digestion process, as it had been days since it'd last performed this function. The meal was great, really flavorsome, and the kofta balls, oh my god, they are to die for! You can mop up the excess gravy with these little bad boys, like you wouldn't believe... absolutely yum!

Do recommend, and really nice atmosphere!

Thank's Govinda's!

10/10. This place is great. For $12.90 (or $11.90 if you're a student) you can get the 'feast meal' which is not only delicious, but all you can eat. The curry is great, the dhal is great and the koftas are amazing! I don't usually eat sweet food but the desert was great. I was super full but if I could have fit in seconds on the desert (or anything for that matter) I would have.

Govinda's - West End, Brisbane. A quiet retreat that is just on the doorstep, Govinda's is simultaneously very well known (lots of people know about it, and during opening hours people are always coming and going) and really well hidden (a second floor eatery, just off to the side even after coming up the stairs). In what is one of the busiest parts of town, they owner's have managed to find a great place that has ambiance. Eating is great, yet one of the best ways to eat is to take time and be relaxed; this is a prime example of that.

Govinda's has traveled around the country a bit, and there are variations of what is on offer at the different locations. A couple of things that remains consistent throughout: pure vegetarian fare (absolutely meat-free) served out with charity. On top of those aspects, there are hidden depths to the aim of the service that focus on health and helping out the disadvantaged. It is owned by Hare Krishnas. Decorations and posters adorn the walls, and books, and pamphlets are available for purchase and/or reading. A donation box is right where the meals are served, and on a TV a documentary is playing about the beliefs of the Hare Krishna religion.

Aligned with a belief of self-efficacy in the Hare Krishna religion, the service beyond being served the food is all up to the diner's take care of it themselves. Right after lining up and serving the food, they give you your full plate and to your left is a table with cutlery, serviettes and sauces. Seating is up to whoever wants to sit wherever. Also - and no hard issue on my part; it is a custom that I have now adopted eating out alone - a convention is, that when you are done you take the finished cutlery, crockery and receptacle to the sink.

With an advertised all-you-can-eat for just less than $13, this is bound to be a popular choice for many people in the area - usually poor students or people in debt; bring a concession card and it gets a little cheaper. There are a couple of other, smaller options for less with the bare minimum at a starting price (curry, rice, kofta, pappadam and drink) and the medium meal - what I chose - which came with an additional dahl on top. For Wednesday, the selection that was on offer was white Jasmine rice with peas, mix vegetable curry with sour cream, yellow moong dahl soup, kofta balls with tomato chutney, and a lemon ginger drink. Get the feast and have halava, custard and garden salad added on.

Whatever size serving you take, the portion is substantial and good value for money. They are very generous, and with tasty, flavoursome food to boot. There are several complex flavours within each of the curries, plenty of fresh vegetables utilised and the kofta balls are arguably the best part of the entire meal, with their crispiness containing a caramalised onion mixture. The drink can be taken or left; it is okay, but nothing to discuss much even without comparison to the rest of the meal. The curries are served within a reasonable proportion to each other. Essentially, it is very tasty food worth trying out.

A lot restaurants specialising in vegetarian fare usually are too forthright about the lifestyle, which can overwhelm those who like meat (and note, this is a big meat eater talking) and come across somewhat smug. With Govinda's, the vegetarianism of the cuisine is a secondary aspect which is due to their beliefs. Govinda's aims to bring generosity and the faith of Hare Krishna to the service and it is a noble cause. Anyone can therefore enjoy what is on offer and appreciate a more unique presentation of Indian fare without pretense.

Therefore, this was really worthwhile heading to and it is good to know about its existence in case of the need for a quick, cheap eat not compromising on quality or health.

Just... Yes.... I was new to the hare Krishna styled food to say the least, as a student I went in there because I saw 'all you can eat' and it was relatively cheap. However, I do love vegan food and vegetarian food and I

I came here on a friends recommendation a few weeks ago. This is not like a traditional sit down restaurant. In saying that it's uniqueness is exquisite! The extremely reasonable price point and the large quantity of vegan and vegetarian food available is amazing! For the price of 1 meal I has several days of leftovers. Despite being vegan/vegetarian the complexity and depth of the food is amazing! This is an amazing restaurant that is Brisbane's hidden treasure. I would strongly recommend a visit!

A hidden secret in West End. It's off the beaten path and the entrance is up a flight of stairs and through an unmarked door with opening hours on it. This Govinda's amounts to an outlet for the main kitchen in George Street. All food is brought in fresh each day and therefore meets the usual quality your associate with Govinda's. The dining area is cosy and the area is air conditioned. You can get the feast option for $12.90 and there are no restrictions on how much you can have. If you don't want to gorge yourself, you can get a plated selection without halva for $10 which is very reasonable. I struggled to go back for kofta seconds at lunch and as I write this review at 5pm I'm still feeling full. Now I know it's here I'll surely be back again.
