Review Hawthorne Garage - Brisbane

Elle
I’ve been here for coffee before, but today we checked out their store. A good variety of fruit, vegetables, cheeses, deli salads, condiments & even a florist. Staff we interacted with were friendly. Prices were a bit more than other similar/gourmet places we go to though.

Fresh veggies, coffee, deli, foreign food…etc. And region QLD agricultural produce. Lovely place.

Simply the best! The deli options for breakfast, lunch, snack, to go with a coffee or pick up some dinner is amazing. Fresh fruit and veg, specialty items, the meat section is exceptional, so many of the best foodie items for your pantry. The drinks selection (mixers and others) for your gin, vodka or non alcoholic beverage is best in area, so many choices (better than bottle shop or Woolies). But what we love the most is all the above awesomeness is backed by the beautiful staff that work there, they are so welcoming, helpful and hard working, there are a lot of people working hard at Hawthorne Garage to make your visit beyond a normal stop in at the shops. Plus opening hours are 6am-8pm, the hot dinners rotate and are super delicious. Could go on and on but you get the point, this place is superb.

Hawthorne garage was consistent with previous visits. As always, Great coffee. Don't really use the shop inside but everything looks fresh & fancy, in line with local resident expectations I suppose.

I love this place, great healthy take away options. Wonderful produce and great coffee. Staff are always friendly and helpful.

Upscale local supermarket. It's a nice place, but as a consumer, it's hard to justify the higher prices. We usually go there to get specialty items that can't be found at Coles or Woolies.
Nathan
I absolutely love this place, hot drinks, gourmet deli, very fresh fruit and vegetables and alot more, everything looks great and staff are excellent.

One of my favourite cafes in Brisbane the food is amazing! Coffee is great. Such a huge variety of salads, pastries and cakes. As well as Kombucha on tap with a bunch of different flavours. The staff are really friendly and helpful!

Great local, fresh food, but they run out quick so go early. Also, only buy the necessities because Woolys & Coles has basic stuff waaaaay cheaper. Love their fresh salads, but not allergy friendly.

They do amazing coffee and sensational selection to eat. From fresh made sandwiches to amazing patisseries. I believe DNA Espresso is a seperate business within the same store, so I’ll have to leave them a review after this.

Would highly recommend if you’re in the area.
Loads of parking available also

Such a neighbourhood fixture - delicious food and groceries, though would be good if prices were lower / reductions were offered occasionally as it is VERY expensive. The coffee has gone downhill over the last year unfortunately though! What’s happened guys??

Drove past this grocery shop many times. It is always busy with groups of customers sitting at the al fresco area enjoying their coffee. That build up the level of my curiosity so I could not wait to stop my car to explore when I found it was not so busy this morning at 6:30am. Directly approached the DNA espresso with take away window next to the main entrance of the grocery shop. It took only couple of minutes to have my small flat white ready. I loved the smooth content with characteristic depth of flavor from Toby Estate. It was very nice to enjoy the coffee in such nice relaxing vibe. Not a bad start of the day. Cheers!

Regularly stop by the Garage for lunch as I work nearby. Love their wraps and baguettes! A bargain at $5 for a half wrap when I'm looking for a light lunch. Best get there before 11:30 at the latest to get the best selection. Anything with roast beef is divine, but the Reuben's are my favourite.
Can highly recommend their Catering as well - our office is nearby and Jaquel always looks after us with amazingly generous platters.

We really like Hawthorne Garage. Coffee's great, friendly staff and there's quite a few different sandwich's which are very nice toasted. My wife loves the wraps. The food always taste's super fresh and delicious. It can be a little on the expensive side but as long as the quality remains high I'm happy. Good for a quick stop for the odd grocery item as well. My only gripe is with some (not all) dog owners who are happy to let their dog bark flat out or chew a noisy toy and bother all the other patrons.
Anna
Perfectly located and always a great place to stop off and grab a quick bite to eat, coffee or a few groceries. A little on the expensive side, however most people are more than happy to pay a premium for the quality of food and groceries available.

Can be super busy during the "peak" times - but other times it's fine.
IamAFoodie
Horrible owners, so rude and lots of swearing. If you are looking for a good time, this isn't the place, unless you want your day to be destroyed by rude behaviour of the owners.
Meowth
Upmarket place but average cafe and food
Friendly staff but the counter barista appeared like an overworked robot
Long black - too much water and too hot, tasted of leftover coffee ground
Caesar panini - the bread was nicely crusty, this sandwich was more flavoursome and mouthful than I expected
Ryan
Extremely overpriced taking advantage of high end area, terrible coffee made by kids, extremely unsanitary food handling and practice, flys and insects seen in store fridges/displays, prices are ridiculous quality and service poor.
Holly Campbell
Wonderful little gourmet grocery store and family-friendly cafe. There is a wide range of gluten-free and dairy-free offerings, as well as a wonderful deli selection. The coffee is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Wade Gourmet
This is my local. Really good coffee which I get two-three times a week, amazing deli food from fresh made sandwiches, quiches, meats, fruits, juices, cakes,dessert, gluten free options and the list goes on. This place is packed constantly and though some things may be a bit expensive for some there's something here for everyone. I usually grab a cold pressed coffee or a juice and a fresh chicken wrap.

Love the food;
Love the hot chocolates and coffee;
Love the supermarket/ deli selections;
Love the fact that dogs are welcome and catered for;
Love it all.
Tim
I was happy to find this place open on a public holiday when most places in the area were closed. On the upside the deli section looked nice and their wraps were good quality. The downside was the croissant I bought was stale and coffee is only sold in takeaway cups even if you want to sit down.
Food And Coffee Snob
This is just an overpriced supermarket with a nice little deli section. The grocery section is grossly overpriced as is the deli. The sandwiches are about 10$ each which I find rather ridiculous for pre-made sandwiches and no table service and the coffee isn't very consistent. The only real good thing about this place is the Chai Latte and the fact that you get a tiny gingerbread man with your coffee. Other than that, paying this much should mean the quality is amazing, but you will be let down, especially if you get there after say 2PM when the choice is very limited and it feels and tastes like the sandwiches have been lying in the display area for hours and hours.

Love the garage - my partner and I get coffee from here often, they have a great selection of fresh food and sweets too. The staff are all really friendly too always good service!
Jax
First and foremost, the selection of produce and food is so wonderful! The salads in the display cabinet are delicious as are the cakes from Jocelyn's Provisions (however, be prepared to fork out $5-5.50 for a single cupcake...) We love the little gingerbread men they give you with a coffee. The only downside is that it is quite expensive and at peak times, the car park is a bit of a pain.

Love this deli styled outlet offering coffee, cakes & gourmet sandwiches along with market style groceries. Great place to load up on picnic foods before heading down to one of the many parks. The cafe is also dog friendly and gets very busy. The sandwiches are delicious. One of my favourites

I have heard many things about Hawthorne Garage but have never checked it out. The Garage features a fresh fruit grocer, delicatessant, a coffee window and so much more. . Hawthorne Garage has a cute little coffee window for the perfect grab and go coffee. My coffee was a pretty good temperature and tasted very nice. The wait wasn’t very long either but I can imagine on the weekends it would be teaming with people. I love the fact that they are open until 8pm for all the coffee addicts.
Amat.keulder
So overpriced. Good location but makes me laugh to think people are willing to spend $6.50 for a small basic croissant instead of $3.50 for one from a lovely artisanale bakery close by. Ordinary apples and grapes double the price than at reputable other stores. Doesn't matter how trendy you try to be or how much you earn, one has to still think about whether you are being taken advantage of. It's essentially a self service of beautifully packed/displayed items. Come on now.

Great deli/cafe/ripe fruit & vege,. Best staff ever - friendly.helpful, never have to wait at the register.
Ripe fruit and vege! Great price for the quality. Ripe mangoes $2.99 and ripe avocadoes same - always available!
Sandwiches and frozen pizza great, as are all the delicatessen products and opportunities to taste test.

However, cakes are too heavy and the salads and pasta dishes are bland, and don't take advantage of the wonderful vegies available. Very white. That is a drag. They should try Om...salads in Oxford Street.

Evening meals for eat there or takeaway in cafe syle, are fantastic and cheap but you have to get there fast. A few more greens would be good.

Minor changes would be great but it is brilliant. They have created a neighbourhood.

My favorite regular spot. My husband finds it amusing that our credit card bill has several transactions at the Hawthorne Garage every week, which goes to show how much i love this place!
The staff are friendly and helpful and can always provide a great recommendation for something nice for lunch. I can pretty safely say I've tried everything in the cabinet and enjoy Fridays when they have Vietnamese rice paper rolls as well.
Lunch from the deli is always well prices, much cheaper than similar delis or larger chains like coffee club which is a pleasant surprise in the Hawthorne/Bulimba area.
On a busy day it can be a bit of a pain to wait for your wrap or foccacia to be heated up and to go up to the counter to pick up your coffee, then your food which might disrupt the flow of conversation with your friends or meeting with your colleague, but even so i find the relaxed atmosphere dispels any frustrations with this.
On busy days when Ive come to eat with a group of mums we have picked up some takeaway and headed to the park nearby where there was more room to spread out and play, just another way to enjoy this great cafe!

An all rounder. Great coffee, wraps, sweet treats, produce and service. Eat there on a regular basis and haven't been anything but delighted.

Great coffee & friendly staff. Fantastic coffee. I'm a local and there are a number of coffee places to choose from around Hawthorne area but these guys are still my number one. Fresh fruit and veg also v good.

This is my local and I love it! It puts a smile on my face to go there in the morning, ever morning. Week days are usually running to get extra milk or that little special treat for lunch boxes. Weekends are for cruising, enjoy the coffee, pick a bunch of flowers, newspaper and these extra fresh ingredients for tasty cooking. The Delhi is also fantastic and I love the quirky finds...did I say thank you?
LittleSpoon
Nice location but very over priced. Coffee luke warm even after taking it back. They are simply milking off the affluent area they are located in. $5 for an avocado? C'mon.
MrSpock
Fresh and Trendy; it's exactly what you would expect in this location. It's a fresh fruit shop that also sells coffees, delicious cakes and deli products. It also has a great range of fresh boutique breads, sourdough, etc. Clean, fresh and modern
Coffee_lova
Stopped in yesterday for lunch, the sandwi was awesome, the coffee started off great but as it cooled it tasted more like a breaka and the whole ordering thing at 2 counters with too many people running around like headless chooks behind it was confusing and I would hate to come in on a busy period but it is a goregous little deli and I will come back for the sandwiches and deli section but there is better coffee elsewhere
Bulimba Local
Coffee is good. To Diana,

Give it another go. I am not a coffee drinker, but those I know who are, travel to drink the coffee at the garage and also my husband loves it.
DianaW
Diana. Called in here for a quick flat white & it seems they only do take away cups but you can drink it there if you wish.My flat white came with a large head & was pretty tasteless & not really hot when I ordered it hot. I did however enjoy looking around the adjoining supermarket & fresh produce areas. They have flowers, bread & lots of other goodies & plenty of free parking at the back of the shop. Please improve the coffee & I will be back really need to be able to tell there is coffee in the cup & not just milk!!
