Review Fish Kitchen - Brisbane

Amelia Kautiainen
Super disappointing. Used to love this place. Nice fresh burgers and chips. Today my experience was not great. Burger fell apart and the ‘chicken’ was not fit for consumption. Tasted very average and for almost $20 with a side of chips.. it’s not too good. Went back in and asked for salt on my chips and the guy who had just finished blowing his nose then proceeded to touch my food and add salt. Such a shame.

I was working my client was in the PA hospital and wanted fish and chips so i went up to Fish kitchen the fish and chips were so awesome my client loved them. After work I was so impressed and the freshness I actually went back myself to get dinner for myself. The seafood sticks yummy

We purchased A grade mad crab, one portion crumbed fish and chips for two on Saturday, bil came to $138 with 15% Easter holiday surcharge. The money was not the issue as we agreed to pay. The wait was beyond we were told over 40 min and the portion of chips was minuscule. Seriously after making a sale like that they skimp on CHIPS!?!? So disappointed, as I often drop in for fresh oysters. Fish Kitchen you should take note on customer experience!!!

The website should be updated to reflect the change of this outlet from a really nice restaurant with a wonderful menu selection, to an ordinary fish and chip shop. If we had known what this place is like now we wouldn't have placed a reservation. Disappointing!

We had the fish tacos and the southern fried snapper. Both were excellent - great texture, not greasy at all, fresh bright flavours in both dishes. Friendly service. Nice ambience. We would have no hesitation eating here again.

Great local fish and chips with fresh seafood. Always our first choice for fish and chips, however the last visit everything was abit over crumbed and fried but we'll be back to try again :)

Pretty good. Not just your usual fish and chip store. They serve alcohol too which is nice. When we went there were a lot of children running around outside which I wasn't really a fan of. The food is good. The portions are generous. My partner loved the onion rings.

I just found this place and I am glad I did. Decent size place with affordable menu, staff were great and the food was fantastic, beautiful flavours. Look forward next time. Highly recommend!.

Myself and my daughter in law went in for lunch, we ordered seafood chowders, and seafood platter, the seafood chowder wasn't the best , the roux just wasn't quite right,it was left on to long, hence the brownish colour, which left a nutty flavour in your mouth, bits of fish, squid, tiniest mussels, seem to have been just placed on the bowl rather than being combined with the sauce.the seafood platter was lacking our bugs didn't have much meat which was a shame, the piece of smoked fish was the best thing we enjoyed on the platter, the mussels were real tiny, prawns on a skewer were nice.We ordered a dozen oysters half natural half they were delicious thank you, i thought for nearlly $200 things may have been on a slightly bigger scale, its a shame cos i do think theres potential there for improvement, the staff were very polite and friendly with big smiles thank you for that.

Super delicious food, quality is always great. Live the restaurant ambience and friendly staff. Would recommend their platters and fish tacos

Poor customer service. With a tag line 'we do "as well as" not "instead of"', I think its obvious they have a bad attitude towards their customers. The food is OK but also very expensive.

Fish & chips

We had a nice lunch at this café opposite the Dutton Park cemetery. There is a great selection of salads to choose from and we thought that the flathead was excellent. We weren't so impressed with the cod though - the fillet was a bit thin.
Vina
I always wanted to try fish kitchen. Decided to have the governor which was battered cod with chips, malt vinegar and mushy peas. I asked grilled cod instead of the battered one. Generally the food was good and well priced. The mushy peas was exceptional!!!

What a great find! We stopped in here for lunch and ordered some fish and chips with a salad. The Vietnamese salad was amazing, very fresh with a delicious dressing. The fish and chips was also very delicious and serving generous. the fish was fresh, chips crispy and calamari was spot on. It was a nice touch to be served the salt and pepper in the mortar bowl. We would definitely return to try some of their meals!

Lovable seafood kitchen, service was pleasant and not too long considering there were a lot of people on site for dinner.

The calamari was very good, beautifully crumbed and fried. I like it when calamari isn't chewy, and the calamari here was wonderfully tender.

The seafood chowder was pleasant, but a little bit expensive for what I got. The chowder is more of a quality over quantity dish for sure.

The fish pie is delicious, they were generous with the fish chunks in the pie and the pie crust was baked wonderfully.

Definitely coming back again, especially when I have a calamari craving!

It has been over two years since last visit so arranged a Sunday brunch in group of three. While I was approaching the counter, the wall menu list made me changed my mind to order the Chilli Mud Crab instead of a Grilled Market Platter. In addition, I placed 1 kg mussels and a whole grilled Rainbow Trout with additional cucumber salad with mint & cashew and a small chips. When everything were ready on the table, it was spectacular that the table seemed too small for us. The grilled rainbow trout was pretty big size and beautifully well-done. Mussels were sweet, particularly the sauce was very tasteful and we could not stop the action of continuously dipped the baguette to soak the sauce. Hero was the mud-crab. I believed it was at least 1 kg weight. Although it was a B grade mud crab, there were lots of meat, particularly the crab claws. Importantly, the sauce was perfect with traces of heat elements that brought the dish to the next level, $28.50 was a bargain.

Mar 22, 2016
I remember this was the same spot that I went to buy my first cooked mug crab (it was a fish & chip shop) over 30 years ago. This area retreats my memory of first arriving Brisbane and lived just down the road. Had lunch here two weeks ago on Sunday. When I walked in the shop, my gaze was attracted by those fresh salads displayed in the cabinets. I was so happy to see so many choices on the menu. Ordered the Gilled Market Platter and Fresh Oysters. When the waitress dropped the platter on our table, I immediately said "wow". It is true that the varieties of seafood are spectacular. Bay Bugs, Mussels, Pippies, Prawns, Swordfish steak, Scallop, Squids......the beer battered chips and salads. All these perfectly grilled seafood pairing with the Diet Ginger Beer reflects the relaxing and enjoyable life in Aussie. I love Australia.......

TL;DR: Fish Kitchen serves up quality seafood meals that can match, and maybe even better, what many places would offer for twice the price or more. It does it through being simple and honest, and without any doubts is worth seeking out some time.

One of the most unusual finds in town, among somewhere where unusual finds keep on popping up, is one which absolutely works on a number of levels. We have ourselves a real gem here, one that has backing of several decades in experience with focus towards firing on all cylinders - we are about the Fish Kitchen in Annerley, always serving fresh produce, and customer service all the way. Now you don't have to travel down the coast to get some might fine seafood, since it is right here tucked just outside of the central south of town.

Come to think of it, I do recall going past here so many times and it did catch my eye admittedly. It's location is pretty centralised, and has a simple look to it, being part fish market and part local cafe. The design is ergonomically suited, with not too much to point to it being there and if you choose to eat here I reckon that would be one of the many charms about it. With the river just a short stroll away, and a great big park out the front this can also help replicate one of the best ways offered to eat fish and chips - like a picnic with greenery around, and in front of the water. Off the bat, it the Fish Kitchen already works by being versatile.

Time and again, it was that time again. On the WWE Network, a PPV event - Money in the Bank, one I always look forward to - and as per always it means one thing for me. After putting it on and starting to watch it, the next point of business was organising some delivery to eat. There was initially one place I had in mind on MenuLog which wasn't opening for a while longer (as in another month or so) so the next step was to browse through UberEats and see what was available and would deliver soon. That had me land right on here, for something a bit different. What this landed on was Fish Kitchen in and around Annerley. Going through the options, the first choice was not available so it was off to the next one, and this ended up being worthwhile in the end because it has some of the finest seafood fare on any side of the river. After logging in the orders, all that had to be done from there was to sit and wait for the driver to come up the driveway.

With that being said, the speed of the service was so swift that it was on its way before I even knew it - and this is even by the standards of UberEats. Without a hitch, the order was dropped off out the window and the driver was a friendly fellow. Everything is cooked here fresh to order, and the order was piping hot when I opened the box. If that is not an indication to being dedication to quality control, then I am not sure what is.

The dedication of this menu to providing purely seafood options is certainly notable, thus being able to distance itself away from the suburban fish and chippys. That been said, half of the menu is fish and chips plus some of the usual additions - both seafood and non-seafood. Adding from those are fish and chip style meals, some individual portions and platters for more people. As per usual, there are a number of burgers as well, plus it also is suited to those wanting something a little more fresh outside of getting their fish grilled. Giving it that bit more of an edge and dedication is their specialty menu which additionally has a number of daily specials in conjunction with some other greats. With it having such a focus on seafood, it is almost like something out of the English seaside.

For me, what took my fancy was the Governor's Fish and Chips. This was fish and chips done in the old British style. This was a piece of cod that was ale-battered, and served with the trifecta of fries, mushy peas and malt vinegar. Whatever it was about the sound of this, I immediately had a draw to it and this turned out to be a good choice. In conjunction to that, I got a fried pickle and an order of salt and pepper calamari.

Without a doubt, some of the best fish and chips that I have ever had in my life. It was a decidedly simple dish, one with each component given the due quality care and when they combined together, each of the components worked incredibly well. First off, the fish: it was a perfect combination of the meat being well cooked and the batter around it being just as good and not taking away from the fish itself. The batter was thin, almost like a tempura style consistency, and quite crispy; its texture was perfectly on-point with the texture, one smooth layer around the entirety of the fish. As for the fish itself, it could not have been cooked any better. The flesh was sweet and moist, tender and soft, and each bite was like butter going down your throat. This is the way in which fish and chips ought to be prepared, with the quality care being given in keeping it simple. The fries on the side were also pretty good, cooked fresh and hot making them pretty crispy. The portion that they gave was generous, and proportional to the size of the fillet given. Adding onto that the malt vinegar, it gives a distinct flavour that is hard to describe - as it is not strong like balsamic, though there is something about it that can't be denied. Plus the mushy peas were also good, being creamy and soft. These components complete a well-rounded meal that would please any old Pom who tried it out.

As for the fried pickle, in the end it is really a fried pickle. Nothing much does change with the pickle, so it is difficult whether or not to recommend it. What I can recommend though, which is pretty much always, is the salt and pepper calamari that I got. There were about a dozen or so pieces, each one a slight bit bigger than bite-sized and they were tender, and juicy. The batter was slightly thick, and was infused with a slightly spicy mixture and the bite of pepper in them. These are definitely worthwhile getting as well, and still continue the streak where it is hard to screw up salt and pepper calamari and that it proves to be a winner each time.

The conclusion with the Fish Kitchen in Annerely is that it is absolutely recommended. You definitely need to try this place out. Not only is it recommended because of the sheer quality of the product offered - though that is definitely a major influence with how highly it is being lauded - but it also has to come down to the value for money as well. The residents out at Dutton Park have a real gem in their midst here. Something which is just like a local cafe as much as it is a fish market, and basically an all-round good old place that would be suited for friends and family.

The fish tacos are quite nice, there my go to now after trying a few items on the menu.
Its often a busy little place at lunch time so service can sometimes be a bit slow but the food is generally pretty good.
First time visit here! Loved the layout; it seemed laid back and casual, but still managing to maintain an air of elegance. I was helped by a very lovely girl, she was blonde and had an accent; I think her name was Mika. She took my order and was very friendly when I asked her about the menu. I ordered scallops, which came out perfectly cooked, and half an order of natural oysters. They were alright but I found that I had gotten consistent mouthfuls of oyster shell flakes in the process of eating them and that they did not taste as fresh as I had hoped. I was expecting them to come with sauce, as I have received at most other seafood restaurants.

Overall, I would come back for another visit with friends to try out the extensive seafood menu.
The Invisible Food Critic
This place has been here for a long time, famous for local fresh seafood and takeaways. We were here on Christmas eve and was expecting a very big outcome however there were more takeaways than I could imagine, long line-ups and very little dine-ins. Seafood here is pretty fresh, prices are on the slightly above average, but you would expect it for fresh seafood anyway. The taste for all their dishes ain't special, still a lot of room for improvement, but at least not bad. The chips were awesome, broth on the mussels were slightly on the watery/bland side, and the pie was pretty good. Service was excellent, staff were really friendly and helpful, decor was relaxing and clean, and great idea of having chalk for children to draw on the floors. Will I return? Yes, but wouldn't deliberately drive more than 20-30mins to dine here. Great little place, I rate it 7/10

Been to the fish kitchen a few times. The governors fish and chips are always good. Crunchy and well portioned. I had the natural oysters today, not that fresh but pretty alright. The prawn cutlets are great. Will be back.

Went to Fish Kitchen for first time and was very impressed. There were a lot of little things to like including music not being too loud, everything arriving at the same time, clean store, and friendliness of staff. Three of us had burgers and the other fish. All very nice and the burgers were not overdone with sauce.
Will definitely be back.
Itsyenyabish
Fish and chips here is fresh and crunchy. Batter is light and not oily, well seasoned making it one of the best fish and chips in Brisbane. They also specialise in other seafood dishes. Will be back to try.
Catdog
I've been buying seafood from their market and eating in their shop front since 2009. The seafood is always fresh! Even since they changed hands it's still awesome fresh fish cooked well. Little bit on the more pricey side but worth it. Will continue to go back!
The Food Oracle
Came here again and had the market platter for two.
It came out looking beautiful but just did not hit the spot. The salmon was plain and pretty boring, I did not enjoy the sauce that the four mussels and pippies were in - I actually found it gross. The three prawns were nice, but three between two? The squid pieces were nicely cooked, the single scallop we each had was nice. The half bug was cooked really well. The serve of chips and salad was very small. But seemed like pretty crud value and it again took way too long to come out.
------
Previous score of 4.0 in September 2016

Fancy fish and chips! We sat outside on a lovely sunny day in the courtyard.

I loved the orange and fennel salad, we got a large between two and I think this was a good decision, it is really necessary when you are eating a deep fried meal.
B loved the Governor meal, it was fabulously Pommy and the malt vinegar with the chips made me finally understand that English quirk! Yum!
Chips could have been better, too many itty bitty broken ones. Service was slow, especially considering it is deep frying stuff and plating a premade salad.

A very neat little fish and chip shop located on a busy main road. I've been here a number of time as it is conveniently located near my uni. Great for a quick lunch. I ordered the chicken burger meal last time. The chips were super crunchy and so was the chicken in the burger. It was well complimented with the slaw. Overall, a very fulfilling meal, but definitely very oily.

More than just a fish and chip shop! It has some great seafood mains on a daily menu. I'd recommend the BBQ seafood platter... It was delicious.
Betty & Jason
The sea dog value pack for $11.50 was generous, cooked perfectly and delicious! The calamari and prawn cutlet was crispy and well seasoned. The owner and waitress were friendly and provided quick service! Would definitely recommend

Have been to fish kitchen a few times and each time was impressive. Creative with flavours, fresh always with various sides choices.. Healthy options also available! 👍👍
Mitchell.kingston
Good food and wide range with the calamari, burgers and grilled fish being excellent. Main drawback is the consistent difficulty in even ordering takeaway and poor service, you'll often be put on hold and sometimes just left that way.

Multiple times the phones have even been turned off for orders during opening hours. Using being busy would be an excuse except they don't like taking orders anyone approaching 8 (half an hour before they close).
KTY
Been here a few times and the place has really livened up after being renovated. The seafood platter are really good value and are always fresh. Other options are a bit pricey but there is a good selection of dishes to choose from. Great for group lunch/dinner.
Nicholas J. Parr
Appalling.
The worst seafood chowder I have ever had. Prawns were clearly frozen and tasted fishy. The prawns also had not been shelled (same with the mussels) so I had to fish them out with my fingers, not a very pleasant experience.
The calamari was bland and rubbery, the salmon was greasy and awful and the chowder it self was in desperate need of some flavor.

The food is way too overpriced and the meals are not worth it. Go somewhere else if you want good seafood.
Kath Farley
Very small servings, over-priced and all-round substandard quality. This place used to be terrific a few years back but it has taken a big dive and I wouldn't recommend it. The service was friendly but I will never go back.
Don McKenzie
A great addition to the Dutton Park/Annerley area, with a modern take on some great dishes. Simple flavors combined with good presentation make for a nice and enjoyable meal. Some of the dishes are a little repetitive but its all good!
EllaJ
Delicious! Have only had fish and chips as takeaway but it was near perfection. Light and crispy battered flathead - simple and divine. Chips were above average. Would have given 5 stars but I think it's overpriced for what you get.
Jessie Cassandra Hall
The decor of this restaurant is really lovely, you wouldn't know it was situated on a main road. The food is quite delicious, although quite expensive for the classic "fish and chips".

Our regular seafood treat :). My girlfriend and I come here almost every week, never disappointed (except when we find out they don't have mud crab...booo...One of our favourites!) Their menu changed from time to time but we always find something we love each time (paella, risotto and southern fried fish were often our choice).
Staff is always very friendly and warm and it's good that we can bring our wine without paying for corkage!
We were pleasantly surprised today to find out oysters are half priced!! Yummm!
Dephialis
Amazing food, but overpriced.. The food here is absolutely delicious and filling, but very very overpriced. Which is a shame, I would still like to go back sometime.

Burnt fish... average service.. We had been meaning to visit this place for a while, it looked promising.
We asked the lady at the counter if they could keep the roe on the scallop and she flat out said "No" immediately. We ordered it anyway, along with cod, snapper, calamari, prawn, chips, and a small salad.
What a great disappointment when we got home to find my cod was burnt to a crisp, the size small, the batter dark brown, the fish dry as a bone. Completely unacceptable, I was astounded, it was so obviously burnt and this place is supposed to specialise in seafood! The snapper was cooked perfectly and there was a huge difference in appearance between the two pieces of fish, especially the colour of the batter, I don't see how the chef didn't spot that the cod was burnt in comparison.
We had just spent $50 treating ourselves and I felt really ripped-off.
We had to laugh when my partner ate the scallop and found it DID have the roe on it - the lady at the counter obviously had no idea what she was talking about.
Krammmer00
Over Priced. We purchased 2 flathead fillets (one questionable ) and 4 crumbed prawns = $43. That is $13.50/piece and $4 / prawn x 4 (small). I even rang later to verify the price of the dinner to make sure it wasn't a mistake. Very poor value for money.
Lucy Gabb
Crispy Calamari. Hit it right on the nose with the calamari - crispy and delicious.
Will be back.
Ilovefoid
Fish n Chips. Excellent presentation and well worth $12.90
Loosy75
Uncooked beef burger patty. No way. steer clear!

-----19 Sep, 2014-----

Overpriced and under cooked. $17 for a take away beef burger and chips would make you feel you are in for a treat. Big disappointment! chips were great. Burger patty was raw and cold to touch. I walked 2 minutes to work from the Fish Kitchen so that is not the reason. The bacon was also out of date or very close to it. I could smell it was off.
Eldocks
Went here on the Royal Show Holiday, received impeccable service and amazing food. I had the cod with chips, mushy peas and vinegar which I thought was a really well put together meal especially for the 12.90 price, though this didn't include a dipping sauce for the chips.
All in all it was a great dining experience and was great value for money . Will be coming back
Beezy
Used to love this place and we would get the seafood platters all the time.. Unfortunately dinner tonight was rubbish. Everything was tasteless - "QLD" pineapple fritter that I was really looking forward to literally tasted like water, batter and cinnamon. Cheap nasty tinned slices obviously and then on charged for a premium. Such a shame to call it a QLD fritter when our pineapples actually have amazing taste. If not in season - don't serve it. Simple. Chips were hard (not crispy, just hard), prawn skewers chewy and gritty. Coleslaw was tasteless unless you got a bit if red capsicum. Really disappointed.. And most likely won't be going back anytime soon.
Amanda
Outrageously expensive!! $27 for I piece of crumbed fish, 1 serve of chips (and a very small serve at that) and 3 crumbed prawns. The food was good, but not excellent, and certainly not good enough to justify the price.
Grazer
Great fish and chips. We went for dinner on a weeknight. Really big selection so it takes a while to read the menu - there's a big blackboard menu that goes all around the counter; there's also a printed menu. Great selection of fish to choose from. Really nice salads, chips were great and a good selection of other seafoods. Some comments here say the fish is expensive - might be a bit up there if you're just getting takeaways but if you're eating in I think it's great value. It's BYO as well. We had a great dinner for two - fish and chips with salads for under $30 so I think that's pretty good. It's casual dining but the whole place had just been refitted so it's very nice. There's not too much seating inside and it's open at the front, so maybe a bit cold on some nights but it was all good the night we were there. Friendly and efficient service and nothing is too much trouble for them. Some of the meals are served on bread boards which we weren't too crazy about because it's easy for the chips to roll off, but others might find it to be ok.
Darrenmoore012
A massive change for the worst. Tried the new menu after recent renovations and could not believe how much the food had deteriorated. Their famed spicy calamari was now quite bland, they didn't seem to have the chilli tomato sauce anymore that was great with the spicy calamari, the crumb used with the fish was too crumby and less tasty than before, salads had changed (no beetroot salad which was quite good), a bland mayonnaise accompanied the fish instead of the tartare, no fried dim sims available anymore (not sure why you would take that off the menu?). On top of that the place was freezing on a cool night. The food has always been expensive here but now that the food is just so so, I'll head down annerley road to a better priced fish n chip joint.

Terry. Best fish and chips South of Brisbane. All the others will have to lift their game!!!
Dave Bell
My wife and I went to Fish Kitchen yesterday and were very impressed with the menu, service and then......came the meals!!! My Japanese wife is very fussy when it comes to food from the ocean and the camera came out straight away!! This was spectacular and had real taste to back it right up :) We felt full but not bloated afterwards and will definitely be returning. Access from Annerley direction is abut difficult but well worth the hunt. Great value for a great product.
Marty
Our new fish joint.. We were lucky enough to get cod and chips take away from here on the first day open after their refurb recently. We both thoroughly enjoyed the flakey cod in batter that was still crisp after the 15 min drive home. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Wendy_dave
Cold soggy chips, heavy batter - not nice at all!. Very disappointed in our take away experience of cold soggy greasy chips, cold battered cod that was about 50% batter! Salt and pepper squid was a poor excuse for the dish. Batter did not stick to the squid, which was tiny and a measly 4 pieces, also cold. Very few kids options on the new menu.

We usually drive out of our way from Moorooka to visit this shop, but needless to say we will not be back!
David
Rip off. This is grossly overpriced. $15 for a hamburger and $8.50 for one piece of fish is disgustingly expensive. We have been there many times and will never go there again.
SouthSideMunch
Expensive and noisy. Not really sure why people like this place. Food is more expensive that I would have expected and the outdoor dining is right beside a 6 lane road. Not easy to access at busy times as parking fills up. I've stopped going there. Not the family place it once was.
Jamsie Boy.
I have been here several times I haven't used the cooked side yet I always use the fresh fish around the back.
Fish is amazing I had freshly cut Tuna last week which I cooked to an Italian recipe with capers and sourdough breadcrumbs. ..amazing my wife said it was restaurant quality. ..no..wait...better than that...customer service five star too..thoroughly recommend it if you like to cook your own fresh fish...next up I will be trying the "cooked" section of the business. .
Dee Dub
Hooked. The food from this place never disappoints. The crumbed Barramundi is fresh from their seafood market next door and is better than many high end seafood restaurants but at a fraction of the price. The service is always cheerful and prompt.
SK
Always come here. Food is fresh & delicious. Great prices & friendly staff. Don't go anywhere else!
Gloria
Very friendly staff, nice decor. However food was very bland and no air con inside....
Ltj92
Great Meal. Heard good things but haven't been so we went. Great! Fresh, wide variety of seafood meals, good sized portions and BYO to boot. It's not a restaurant as in decor, waiters, menus... it's simple and it's about the food. Thoroughly recommended.
PJ
Portion size to Price very small yet expensive with the steakburger and tartar sauce having little taste.
Staff very friendly though.

Fish Delish. This place is a staple in the area. A derelict fish takeaway use to reside on the land but along came new management and made it into what it is today. The food is fresh, the service is friendly and the prices are good.

Like most business' Fish Kitchen peaked when they first opened. They only use rice bran oil and the fish and chips always come out crunchy and dry. The good kind. They're not drenched in oil, they're ... dry and crispy, never soft and soggy. Prices start from $7 for cod and chips.

They do decent burgers with real meat patties as opposed to processed junk and good chicken wraps ($10 from when I last recall last year).

The seafood chowder was always a favourite ($10) until they raised the price to $14. The calamari is not oily, and crunchy and also good grilled.

I had a chance to visit recently and they have raised their prices considerably. They used to have a good selection of items on the menu, but now the weekly 'specials' just stay on the board for a month or two.

The dining area is wonderful. If you want to escape the noise, as the restaurant is situated on the main road, you can sit inside, bearing in mind that people often wait by the counter or the sofa for their takeaway meals.

There is a courtyard area outside with sprawling greens which is half covered so that you can catch glimpses of the street. I find this nice because I have something to look at and watch the day go by.

A good selection of fish is available (salmon, barramundi, tuna on occasion) by the kilo (~$40/kg which equates to ~$8 a piece usually) which you can then specify how you want it cooked (fried, grilled, battered). There is a $3 cooking fee but the meals usually come with a simple salad.

There used to be a really good selection of salads but that seems to have dwindled. Tangy Beetroot, Pasta, Potato, Seafood salads are wonderful if you get a chance to taste them at $4 a small serving or $8 for a huge bowl.

There are restroom facilities and also ample parking spaces. Adjoining Fish Kitchen is their own Fish Market open early to 6pm most nights. I'd assume staff would gladly run down and grab you a kilo of something if you were there after hours and it wasn't busy.

It's a very small selection of fresh produce (oysters, scallops, marina mix, fish etc.) and quite disappointing after I saw that scallops were from china. There were Australian scallops next to these but all I could think after that was 'How fresh and local could the seafood be?'.

Make your own decision. Perhaps their prime is over and the owners need to reinvent themselves and the whole menu. I can vouch that during the 6pm dinner rush, where the place is full and the takeaway line is long that they definitely desperately need more staff.

They also open from 8am for breakfast. The menu sounds great and very affordable and they usually do $1-$2 breakfast coffee specials.

Great fish burgers! Service always great.

When we feel like fish and chips, we always come here.
They are delicious and the staff are always friendly.
Colleen
Great seafood. We visit on a regular basis and just love the fresh fish. Staff are always helpful. Their follow up is great. Sure outside has on occasions some bird problems but hey you get that at any outdoor eatery. We have been going there for about 4 years and it is getting better with their attention to detail and the quality of the food was always good but now even more so.
Brendan Mitchell
Great food - new staff suck!!. We live near by and have been regulars for years. The food is always of a high standard, especially the fish wraps with the yummy dill sauce.

However there have been some new staff put on who apparently don't like being asked about what's in the food. AND we were silly enough to have used the wrong credit card and then we were treated rudely for the rest of the visit. No offer of water, no thank you's etc etc...Really appalling - its like I insulted her mother or something!!! It's a shame because they are obviously on to a good thing food-wise but for me it's let down by staff.

Disappointing and grubby. Ironically, the chowder i had with a dill and cream sauce was ok. but the whole atmosphere was depressing; the waitress inside looked angry and i felt the need to smile constantly at her, as she looked like she wanted a fight. it was very hot last weekend, so I chose to sit outside (no air con yet).

outside has bird faeces all over the chairs; it was hard work choosing one not filthy. there are resident magpies there as well. i had to fight them off whilst i attempted to consume my chowder and chips.

the waitress had complete indifference, and made no attempt to get rid of the vermin. i ended up taking my plates inside the cafe to stop the magpies eating off them.

incredibly depressing.
and filthy to have outside furniture in that state.
i won't be going back.

Totally Delicious!. This place is our fav for fresh fish and chips! Fantastic quality - always looks beautiful and you get to choose your own piece of fish! Oysters only opened when you order and salads are homemade and gorgeous - try the beetroot salad.
Wow
Horrible. We have been here on several occasions for take away fish and chips, the last two times they completely forgot to make our order. Sitting there waiting for half an hour and no apology from any of the staff. We decided to try their dine in menu last night hoping it would be better. I had the BBQ Bugs in lemon butter sauce and my partner had the Oven Baked Tassie Salmon. The bugs seemed fresh but the sauce was so overpowering I could not taste anything but lemon. My whole plate was swimming in this oily lemon sauce and the chips were inedible. The salmon was so overcooked and the skin was salty and soft. There was barely and sauce with the salmon and the beans were undercooked with raw spinach mixed through. Both meals were a disaster on the plate and I won't be eating there again.

Awesome. I love this place. Fish is fresh, and the staff are friendly and the chips are the BOMB!

Not nice any more very disappointed and overpriced. This place used to be good. You order fish n chips and you would get a side salad to eat in.
Now it's byo and menu has been changed it's not the same. Hasn't been for a while but wanted to try it again……………Not anymore
On one occasion we got there at 10 to eight one night and they told us they were closed ...they close @ 8pm the girl was packing away tables didn't say sorry or anything. We decided to try it again Monday for lunch. We were at the register waiting for ten mins there was no acknowledgement that the waitress had seen us, even though she had passed us several times with dishes
While we were waiting a customer which had been served by the cook was overcharged for (4 pieces of weighed salmon) she was charged $ 50 when queried it was reweighed it came to $39.Cook said he didn't know how this happen, he did not say sorry.
We ordered Kilpatrick oysters for starters to share... The bacon bits and sauce were cold even though the oyster underneath was fresh tasting, did not enjoy it.
I ordered what said Hervey bay butter scallops on the shell"oh my gosh", it looked they had been cut off, there was so little on the shell and it was cold.
I asked if this is what they do, cut ½ off to use in sea food basket??they said no we get them like that .......I asked to see a fresh one and they bought a box of frozen shells out, Holy dooly this is a Fresh Fish market. The prices are too high for what you get especially in service. Terrible

Recently tried the take away option here, and I have to say it isn't up there on my list. No snapper, and the deep fried items were just ... greasy and tasteless. The grilled fish was, however, not too bad. Overall, not going to get a second visit from us.

Fish Kitchen - thumbs up!. There has been a recent change to the Fish kitchen and it was all for the better. The fish and salad was fresh and full of flavour. I have returned now three times in one month! Reasonable priced, good service! looking for awesome BYO casual dining - look no further.

Totally Casual. I live just down the road from this place, so walk down every now and then.
The atmosphere is very plain, relaxed and casual.
The food is usually good quality - basic fresh and cooked seafood, so pretty hard to screw up i suppose! It's usually pretty busy at night, so a few people enjoy going there.
Service is average.
They have vege burgers - and they are pretty good. But last time we went they were "out" so that was a bit disappointing.

It also has an outdoor area near a pretty big road. They've tried to privatise it, and in summer it's nice out there. i think it's BYO but am not sure.

Definitely worth a try for takeaway or very-casual dining!

There was an issue getting my fish pie reboxed for takeaway since it was served in its own ceramic container. The kitchen said that they couldn't do it and it would become mushy if put in a container. I said I was happy for it to go that way, or I wouldn't be able to have it at all since I was late for work.

Like my friend Jess says, they taste a little like meatloaf, with something extra added to them, rather than just beef.

The calamari was pretty good. The coating was crunchy and they weren't overcooked, matching the tomato relish that came with it.
