The butterscotch with the panacotta was simply divine.
Went here with a weekend dinner with the partner and a friend.
We started with the Carpaccio (light and fresh) and Aranchini (hot, moreish and silky molten cheese). For mains, we tried the Linguine Alla Marinara (good mix of fresh seafood), Linguine Con Bistecca Funghi (homely, comforting) and Gnocchi Di Zucca (well made, if not smaller portion size that was disportionate to the other Linguine servings).
For desserts, we had the Panna Cotta, Brownie and Crostata (the latter was quite rich, definitely recommend sharing).
Friendly and efficient service. Smart casual ambience with indoor and outdoor seating available. Prices on higher end.
Overall, a good Italian option in the Toowong area.
My favourite restaurant!!!! The best food, the best chefs, the best staff, the best atmosphere, the best wine! 11/10!! You need to eat here
Barolos is undoubtedly THE Best Italian Restaurant in Brisbane hands down! Definitely try their steaks - pastas are also superb! And the truffle whipped butter & salamis... I could inhale that all day!
Thank god there are a few places like this left in Brisbane. It’s nice to go out and get quality food at reasonable prices. This place is awesome. We had the KOJI dry age duck and now can’t wait to go back to try something different
Absolutely exceeded expectations! I booked the function room at Barolos for my birthday, and it was my first time dining at the restaurant as well. My friends and I were really impressed with the service and quality of food. They were very accommodating to our needs, right down to cutting the cake and serving it beautifully to us. I can’t recommend this venue enough for your functions, I feel they truly embody the first-class hospitality and dining experience you can only learn overseas! 10/10 and thank you Guistino and the team.
Valentines Day Dinner and we arrive at 6pm. We join the queue and are quickly seated. Carrie is quick to top up our glasses with Bubbly and take our order for Cocktails.
We are still enjoying our drinks when our entrees arrive. My Pan Seared Scallops and Fruit Salsa look great. The plump Scallops nicely seared are heavenly. Phuong Tran’s Crispy Skin Pork Belly is well seasoned, tender and juicy. Eaten with the crunchy pork crackling, this dish is a winner!
Ten minutes and our mains arrive. My Wagyu Rib Fillet (MB 4-5) is perfectly cooked medium, comes with truffled mash, blistered tomatoes, confit mushroom and Barolos jus. I ordered this meal 4 months ago but this steak is perfectly seasoned and I rate it as my best steak in the past 12 months.
Phuong Tran’s Chicken Parmigiana is topped with Buffalo Mozzarella and crispy Pancetta and is served with truffled mash and vegetables. The Breast Fillet is a generous serve, perhaps a tad dry. She especially likes the truffled mash and Pancetta.
Shared Dessert Platter comes with a large slice of fresh Tiramisu, Raspberry Sorbet, Chocolate Brownie and Vanilla Gelato. A perfect dessert combination!
Like our last visit back in October, we rate our meals 4.5-5.0! Service is exceptional despite it being a full house. A BIG thank you to Carrie, Giustino and the wait staff for giving us a perfect Valentines Dinner.❤️
。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。
We made a booking through Zomato and came with such high expectations. I should say they did meet our expectations. Friendly staff, well prepared food and desserts. We ordered calamari fritti and arancini for appetisers. The arancini was soft inside and crispy on the outside- perfect blend of mozzarella, grana padano and gorgonzola. We loved the chilli jam too. The calamari was so tender. We ordered Linguine alla marinara and pesce del giorno (crispy snapper with mashed potato in mustard sauce). They were so good as expected. As a closing, we had tiramisu and lemon tart. Tiramisu although tasted good, would have been better with a stronger coffee flavour- though I guess it’s just a matter of my own preference. The lemon tart was excellent. We went back home feeling very satisfied 😄... $145.90 well spent.
First time trying Barolos at Toowong... First impression... The staffs were soooo friendly, make us feel welcome and special, the atmosphere of the restaurant feels warm and relax, beautiful wine recommendation and food was amazing... we had the deep fried cheesy rice balls (forgot what it call, they have a name for it LoL) and the other cheese for entrees and then we had the lamb and steak for main, both were cooked to perfection, presentation was nice and pack with flavors! Really wanted to try dessert but no more room for it... will come back and try it next time for sure!
This is our first visit the restaurant and we really felt the passion and energy from the inside out. Thank u everyone at Barolos!
10/10 This is my new favourite restaurant in Brisbane!
Had the best date night here, tried the lamb and it was the best I've ever tried. Recommend the service as well we were never with an empty glass.
This is my new favourite place for a night out the food here is outstanding and fresh. They have the hugest tomahawk steaks. And the bar is sensational u will see me again soon 100%
The best steaks in Brisbane oh my lord have to try this place guys 🤤🤤🤤 I started with arancini so cheesy and with a subtle smoky taste, after that I had the steak, absolutely cooked perfectly. I wish I had room for dessert see u soon guys
Daniel and his staff have always delivered exceptional service and quality fine dining. I have hosted and attended numerous functions in this establishment and have never been disappointed. If you’re looking for somewhere to host a flawless and exciting event Barolos will leave you with a great taste in your mouth...
Undoubtedly the best Italian in Brisbane I had the lamb special last night and have joined zomato just to let everyone know how awesome it was. Do yourself a favour and check this place out.
Came with high expectations, all of them were met and some were even exceeded. First of all the service is absolutely excellent the staff are extremely professional. Secondly the food is amazing. The flavors that they managed to get into every dish I tried were heavenly. I was there with a party of friends and tried multiple dishes. They were all seasoned beautifully and tasted truly of dishes from a high calibre restaurant. The entree was rich and silky, packed full of flavors of the sea. Delicious and warm the perfect teaser for what was to come. The main was fair to say, unforgettable. The steak was tender, juicy, well seasoned, melt in your mouth deliciousness. One of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The quality of the produce shone through and highlighted the flavors of the Rusden good sheppard Malbec which paired beautifully. The steak sat atop a creamy, fluffy pillow of truffle mash which tied the dish together in to one amazing experience that I cannot speak highly of enough. Highly highly recommend.
We headed out on a hot weekday recently to Barolos for lunch. As we didn't want to get too full, we tried smaller amounts of different dishes. We shared a pane di casa with truffled butter, and a bruschetta con funghi - a bit of a mushroom fest you might say:=) These were just delightful. The breads were soft and easy on the palate; no razor-sharp crusts, thank goodness. The mushrooms and goat's cheese were full of flavour, creamy, buttery and very moreish. As was the pane di casa, which held some of my fave tastes like the sweetly caramel garlic whip and smoked sea salt. It had a real punch of flavour, and I was glad we had asked for a smaller portion, as I would have kept eating it given the chance.
From the Primi Piatti menu, we chose calamari fritti and insalata caprese. One of the owners made sure we knew that the basil was green rather than purple as "purple wasn't good enough today." My calamari was tender and well-seasoned, if just the teensiest bit too salty for me. It came with a fennel, rocket and orange salad which was refreshing and well-dressed. Hubby loved his salad of tomatoes, basil and buffalo milk mozzarella. He said it was wonderfully fresh and well coated with the dressing, though we both found the dressing a wee bit bland. He also would have liked a few more basil leaves.
And we kept eating ... We shared a small serve of fried gnocchi, garnished with fried sage leaves. It sat in a delicious puddle of pumpkin cream sauce, with some scattered goat's cheese. The gnocchi had a crusty coating and a soft, pillowy, potatoey inside. These were delicious, my friends. I don't think I've ever had gnocchi that tasted so much of potato (and we loved it), and it was amazingly good.
Now I am not usually a big pasta fan, but the rigatoni suited me to a T. It was al dente, with lots of bite, which I adored. Mr P. likes his pasta a little less bitey, but it was perfect for me. The chicken pieces were breast meat, tender and moist, nestled in the creamy tomato sauce, and finished off with parmesan shavings. I loved this dish! And I am a woman who doesn't usually like tomato sauces, so there you have it. I have been seduced to the wild side here at Barolos.
For dessert, I chose panna cotta. This was super fabulous,:the best panna cotta I've ever had! Beautiful vanilla seeds swirled thru it, and there was gorgeous gelato sitting on the beautiful plate. There was a beautiful, swirly, rounded plate, showing off this amazing dessert. The panna cotta was sweet and wobbly, and the gelato gave it a wonderful counterpoint with its toasty bits of coconut.
We had enjoyed a really delicious lunch, and will definitely dine again soon with a couple of friends. So if you're after a beautifully-cooked meal with delicious flavours, in a calm and attractive setting, this is the place for you, my friends.
We were invited to dine at Barolos one Saturday evening and brought along our two little people. Staff were so incredibly helpful, finding us a table so we'd be out of the way with our pram yet still comfortable. We started with a tasting plate which included arancini, calamari, olives, bread, fried mozzarella, a selection of cold meats, octopus, scallops and sun dried tomatoes. My favourites were the cheese (I mean, fried cheese, what's better than that?!) which came with lemon and smoked salt - a delicious combination. I also loved the arancini, they were packed full of flavour, and also the calamari. I am not the hugest seafood fan and rarely enjoy calamari but this stuff was melt in your mouth, not at all chewy and perfectly cooked - hats off to the chef!
We managed to try (and finish!) everything, meaning I was already quite full before mains came out. These took a little longer to arrive which normally wouldn't bother me as it means having a break between courses, however as we had our two children with us, it meant we were a tad rushed and weren't able to stay for dessert. For mains, I chose the pork belly dish. It was really delicious and a very generous portion however in hindsight, with the large entree we had, I think a lighter main would have been better. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed the pork belly, it's one of my favourite dishes to have at restaurants and this one was great. My husband also really enjoyed his seafood marinara, the pasta was wonderful, as you'd expect from an Italian restaurant.
We both had some red wine from Troll Creek, such a great wine and the perfect accompaniment to dinner as it wasn't too heavy and worked well with our meals, thank you to our server for his recommendation on this one. You can tell the chef and owners really care about their customers as there were many diners, even early on Saturday evening, in this little neighbourhood gem. There is also a private dining room out the back of the restaurant which would be wonderful for parties or special celebrations. Food is terrific, very authentic, delicious Italian food and service was warm and friendly. I'm disappointed we didn't get to stay around for dessert as Italian desserts are some of my favourites, but that's life with two young kids! Thank you so much to the team for having us, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, were well looked after and will definitely be recommending you to friends and family. Top little spot!
If you thought Barolos Ristorante Italiano in Toowong seemed a little oddly familiar, you would be right. Mariosarti had been in that space for over twenty years, but closed its doors a few months ago. In its place has emerged Barolos, also clearly an Italian restaurant, similar in many ways, but different in key other ways.
Mr had the 500g rib fillet cooked to medium rare. I asked whether he could finish it and he was like 'Are you joking? I am starving!'. I could see his face in delight when the steak was served. He sliced through the juicy piece of steak and we both knew it was cooked to perfection. I thought the truffle potato mash was on the saltier side but once you eat it together with the steak, it was like match in heaven. This steak is definitely worth the calories! The sides of tomatoes and confit mushrooms were just so good absorbing all the flavours.
This place is new and already kicking goals can’t wait to see what the boys come up with this summer. Four cheese Arancini is still the best in Brisbane followed by the chicken sundried tomato rigatoni is awesome. A must try
Fed well by the team here, Carrie and Giustino knows their things!!! You really just need to relax and they will be able to pick anything for you. Perfect place to go on first date, celebration (cause they got a little gem room for private function) and even family friendly!!!
Fantastico! Our evening started with lovely service from Giustino and their superb wine list. Even if you're not a wine buff, Giustino has a wonderful ability to listen and recommend a wine that will suit your taste, my wife was very impressed with the slightly sweet and light body of the Rockford White Frontignac - thank you Giustino! For our entree, the standouts were the arancini and antipasti - even my little daughter enjoyed the wide range of flavor on offer here. The big stand out main dish would have to be the Marinara pasta, this is one my all time favorite foods and Barolos version could be the very best of the best, magnificent :)
Explored this new listing at Zomato site. Located at the previous spot of Mariosarti, I agree with other foodies' reviews that the current management does provide much better food, service and ambience. Walked in and was firstly greeted by a lovely lady - Carrie, who led us to a nice table near the bar. After perused of the menu, we decided to go for her recommendation of antipasti and we requested to have a special arrangement with a bit of everything of the entrees on the menu. Then we ordered the main of rib fillet in 300g with extra side dish of baked bone marrow (my favourite) and a dish of home-made pasta in Marinara with extra side dish of sautéed forest mushroom. Our BIG entrée came in within 5 minutes, which gave us a "wow". There were really a bit of everything, olives, sundried tomatoes, smoked white mozzarella, arancini, calamari, scallops, cold cuts, marinated baby octopus, picked vegetables and pork belly. We have put our extra effort to finish them all and the conclusion is heroes are the pork belly (very nice crispy skin), arancini (crispy crumb with well-cooked rice) and the scallops (very strong seafood flavour) are those a-must order on our return visit. Then we took a break for 10 minutes and started our food journey on the mains. It was amazing that those mains were not as surprised as the antipasti. Although the pasta is al dente, rib fillet is too big the portion for me (may be due to my stomach has been filled up by the entrees), baked bone marrows are generous and taste good, and the mushrooms are fresh, we found that the overall main dishes are slightly salty, which is a shame otherwise a full score of 5/5 will be marked for the night. However, I am glad to see another local gem in Toowong area. Oh! I nearly forget to mention the private room at the back, it is so grand with privacy that I think I will arrange a private party here soon!
Rating 4.5/5
Barolos was formerly known as Mariosarti, having been at 41 Sherwood Road in Toowong for 25 years. Carrie and Giustino only opened Barolos a few weeks ago! Despite its youth, the restaurant was packed with happy faces by 7PM!. Location, ambience & service. Parking was very easy, Barolos is a short walk from Toowong shopping village so we parked there and enjoyed 2 hours free parking. It is also close to the Toowong bus stop.
Having been to the iconic Mariosarti not too long ago, I was quite disappointed when I heard it had closed down. But before long, a new venture by the name of Barolos had established itself in their old lodgings. Also specialising in Italian, I was super keen to try it out, and luckily for me, I had the pleasure of being invited to try it out for dinner last Saturday, naturally, I brought my favourite instagram celebrity who has now been downgraded to my lighting accessory, FoodieAdam.
I am a huge fan of Italian food, and when I heard something new took over Mariosarti but kept the Italian cuisine… I had to check it out. And boy did we let let our stomachs do the ordering 😋. Here’s a look at the MENU. First we always begin with a drink, Espresso Martini. Espressos’ drink of choice (ironically), nice a smooth… laced with delicious coffee, and of course vodka 😋. A great way to start off the relaxing evening.
Barolo in Italy might be famous for its many vineyards and even greater varieties of red wine, but at Barolos in Toowong, you can get more than just good wine, because the food here is simply amazing. . It had been drizzling all day and the wet weather definitely called for a hearty meal. We headed to Toowong and found ourselves a nice table at Barolos Ristorante Italiano. Operated by Carrie and Giustino, it wasn’t hard to see their passion for this business coming through in every way. Being at the restaurant was like eating at your friend’s nonna’s house, the hospitality was warm, the food just kept coming and everything tasted so damn good.
Well being a couple of Mebournite's for the last couple of years and now returning to brisbane, we were used to golden little Italian gems in Melbourne which were belissimo, there is a new kid in town in Brisbane! Barolos is amazing. Close to home, gorgeous old Italian interior with class. 3 weeks in, bravo team. We didn't go with the "popular" choices and chose the scallops..delicious. The Morton bay bugs in the most amazing sugo sauce the menu which the menu does not do it justice with the description but we took a punt and well... it was amazing, the right amount of pepper, cream.. yum. If they put that sauce with a lobster/prawn/bug ravioli I'd be there every week for my fix! We then had the lobster entree as I'm a light eater and the lobster seafood spaghetti for my husband. I'm a European and the long missed chianti wine hit the spot, I would love for more Australians to try the amazing Italian wine. The service was spot on special mention to Kerry, Justin & Daniel. Sorry I didn't take more photos, I was too busy enjoying the amazing flavours!
Let me start off by Saying that i was a massive Fan of the old Mariosarti, and was absolutely gutted to see them close. It was my go to Italian with my Partner, and we would go there for a casual meal, for birthdays and even anniversaries.
Boy was i glad to see Barolos open, a facelift version of the classic which we loved so much! And it was even better to walk in and see some of the familiar and friendly faces that helped us have many awesome nights in the past.
First things first, check the wine menu and pray that they still have the Rusden Good Shepherd Malbec! (one of my favourite wines, and only sold in a select few places around Brisbane) Yaaaaaassssss! They got it! Things are going well. Leave the Bottle ;) ($70/bottle)
Entree next, we shared the Arancini Balls and sipped on the beautiful full-bodied red wine. The arancini is served with a chilli jam, and aioli. The price reflects the quality at $18.90. It is not just a cheap starter, it is quite filling and you can really taste the quality.
Our favourite dish's were still on the menu, with the addition of a new and improved variety of Steaks! My Partner maintains that Mariosarti did one of the nicest steaks around, and he was grinning from ear to ear when he ordered the 500g Wagyu Rib FIllet and slid his knife through it to see it perfectly cooked medium rare, the way he likes it. He claims it is even better than what it used to be. I am not much of a steak eater myself, but i had a taste and it was really tender and juicy and seemed to be of a higher quality of steak than i had previously had. Steak was $49.90
I went for the Seafood Marinara, as it was my favourite dish from before and again i was impressed. Moreton Bay Bugs, Scallops, King Prawns, and squid with a hint of chilli and garlic. It was just as fresh and flavoursome as before, and was such a treat when accompanied with the Rusden wine. $34.90.
Overall its probably the best restaurant experience we have had this year!
It will be my birthday in a few months, and i intend on hiring out the function room in the back, its absolutely bad-ass and perfect for a small party.
Thank you for the awesome experience Barolos! Great to have you guys back! :)
The food is absolutely delicious and service impeccable! The price is on par with what you get and definitely was not disappointed. I had high expectation too. Will be going back for sure :)
Hospitality you can’t find anywhere else.
Great staff and food!
A must try for quality and excellence.
Barolos has a champagne selection you rarely see in the high end side of restaurants.
If you want the best Italian food in Brisbane this is the place. Absolutely outstanding food, service and atmosphere with the plus of it being reasonably priced. Loved it so much that I have booked the work Xmas party here. I can not rate it high enough. Oh and the specialty wine list OMG
The Moreton Bay bug entree is amazing and if you’re looking to impress try the Tomahawk. Service is outstanding, staff are friendly and attentive, Barolos is definitely the hottest place in Brisbane for a great night out with friends and loved ones 😍
It’s everything you loved about its predecessor Mariosarti with even better food and even better service. Friendly staff. Even better food. Just the best.
I had a party at Barolos in the front private section last weekend and I couldn't speak more highly of the food, the staff and the hospitality. All of my guests loved everything about the night. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
