Same as the Cafe Boulevard, we took the 50% off food bill promo from the Fork (it is the only one be so generous) to have a dinner here on Monday night.
Well, it was a ghost town in the area of Eat South Bank. We occupied the first table of the night. Service is very hospitable and friendly.
We ordered the kangaroo skewers and the garlic prawns for entrees and chicken risotto and pasta with seafood marinara for mains.
Honestly, we did not expect too much on this local eatery but it gave us an extraordinary surprise on the food it provided.
Kangaroo skewers was done perfectly with tenderized meat and accompanied with salad and vinegar. Garlic prawns were done with tomato paste. Sauce was delicious as the dips for the bread.
Pasta was al dente with reasonable amount of seafood. Risotto was the best that we had for this year. Importantly, chicken breast pieces were tenderized.
Thanks for the whole team to prepare such an impressive dinnerđź‘Ť

their kitchen was open late so decided to give this restaurant a try. their arancini was amazing and the bourguignon was good too. recommend trying
Food:
Calamari, pork belly, slow cooked beef
Environment:
Lovely waitress who helped us choose our food. Super friendly
Taste:
The calamari was perfectly soft to bite into, not tough at all. Pork belly dish was a little on the heavy side. My fault for choosing a carb heavy dish.
Value:
My pork dish had lots of pork on it, couldn’t even finish it. The waitress was kind enough to give us a takeaway container for the beautifully cooked pork belly.
Our for a night at the theatre and walking around Southbank looking for a quick bite. What a pleasant surprise.
It you’re not bothered by the outdoor tables service was great, food excellent and great value for money.
Had seared tuna and seafood marinara.
Will be back.
We have mixed feelings about this place... the food was delicious, the price was very good but it just took them ages to bring out the food. It wasn't even that busy and yet my partner and I, along with 2 other couples around us were kept waiting 45 just for a simple sample plater.
Overall, we'd probably go there again for the food, but not on a day where we're pressed for time, that's for sure.
I love this place.
Fantastic service, great food and beautiful atmosphere at a fair price. Â
One of the best value for money in South Bank.Â
Super super recommend it. Ask for the BEEF RAGU.Â
Fantastic option.
I went there with my husband and a friend of ours, who has some intolerances like me. The menu is quite small, but with a lot of gluten and dairy free options. I had the fish, my husband took the kangaroo and our friend the steak. My fish and the kangaroo were delicious, but I noticed that the steak was not really easy to cut. The staff was really friendly and professional and the service was quick. Portions are not very generous and prices are quite high for the quantities you find in your plate. But really good food.
The portion is a bit smallq but the food taste great and the waitress is really kind and helpful. I love her recommendation of red wine. The chilli cheese burger could be one my best.
After making a Saturday night booking a few hours earlier I was pleased to hear they could accommodate us at the time we requested.
Water was brought with menus as we were seated.
We drank a lovely light Pinot Gris with piquant olives.
Our mains were a tender chicken with potatoes and linguine with spanner crab and salsa.
Both light but satisfying meals.
We drank sparkling brut from SA with these and then decided on desserts.
Our peanut butter parfait with caramel sauce and popcorn was so moreish.
The other dessert we sampled was chocolate macadamia brownie with raspberry sorbet and frozen berry bark.
Service was very attentive and we did not need to ask for refills of water at all.
Overall a very satisfying and enjoyable meal.
Sir A., got this New York style sirloin steak, it came with thick cut smoked bacon, red wine jus, mashed potato and colcannon aka an Irish dish with mashed potato and crispy kale bits. The steak was a perfect medium rare and melted on the tongue like pure butter, oh man that was a good steak! Even as good as that, the thick smoky chunks of bacon were an absolute delight as well, you can't see any in the picture but they're as thick as your finger nail! Sir A was desperately hoping that I wouldn't ask for any.
Pretty fab venue. Had brunch here with my partner. I had the pulled lamb and bubble and squeak. He had the brekkie tacos. Amazing food. Poached eggs perfectly runny. Lots of textures and flavours. Bacon just the way I love it- crispy. Service was welcoming, friendly and efficient. Can't wait to try their dinner menu
If you're in search of a breaky hang In South Bank then Next Door Kitchen is likely to be our pick for you. Note the only con for us personally was that serving sizes are not massive. In saying that though, the food here is good.
Lovely, laid back spot for brekky and refreshing juice after a morning walk around Southbank. Great, creamy coffee too. The two waitresses this morning were super friendly, welcoming and charming with the kids - thank you! :)
Had dinner here on a Saturday night. Seated quickly, service was good. Had the seafood pasta (entree) which was tasty but really oily and a tiny portion for $20. I think there was one scallop on there. Friend had the sirloin which was alright but only potato and no veges with it.
We went for dinner. Very happy with the quality of the food. My steak was generous and cooked properly and the sides were fresh and appetising. The service was very good - prompt and friendly. The prices of the food are good value. My only reservation is that the wine is very overpriced and out of all proportion to the cost of food. If the wines were more sensibly priced this would be a regular dinner destination for us.
I took my mum here for dinner on Saturday night. It was a lovely night the food was nice and the staff were very friendly. A nice and enjoyable night
After being ignored for 40 minutes at Ole next door - we moved to this place - awesome Friendly staff - limited beer selection but great cocktails and beautiful food. Was a wonderful start to our girls day out. The Calamari was simply divine - and the elderflower martinis were delicious !!
I went to Next Door Kitchen & Bar for lunch on Saturday. It was my first visit. The menu was small and this made it easy to order. I really wanted to try the polenta as a starter and thankfully a friend was willing to share. Another friend ordered the marinated olives and we ended up sharing them both. The polenta was delicious. I didn't like the sound of harissa sour cream but it was a really lovely accompaniment. The olives were very tasty and the two dishes went together well. We were definitely off to a great start. I ordered the market fish as my main course which was salmon served with tabouleh and a labna mousse. I was disappointed to find that the main ingredient in the tabouleh was Israeli cous cous (no cracked wheat and no discernible parsley). It lacked flavour. The fish was cooked perfectly with a hint of pink through the centre but was cold - well, room temperature. The dish also needed a bit more fresh greenery to balance the richness of the salmon. Pea tendrils were a nice decoration but that's about all. Overall, this meal could have been better for the price. I also felt the alcohol here was on the expensive side - the result was that no one in our party had any more than one drink. The service was excellent. Our blonde female waitress was bubbly and helpful. I'd give them another go but I wasn't blown away.
I dined here for lunch in a group of four. Three of us shared the marinated mount zero olives and the two cheese polenta bites for entree, all delicious. I had the crispy fish taco for main course. The whole food experience was very enjoyable. Unfortunately my cappuccino was lukewarm.
Great food at a reasonable price. The service was prompt and friendly - did not get the feeling that we were being rushed out of our seats after we finished our meal like most places.
Nice spot in Southbank. Walked in and got table instantly although it was a busy Saturday night. The service was exceptional however the food was average and Gangsta chicken was below expectations. I would come back only when their menu changes.
Nice spot. Walked in for dinner before a show, food was good-not huge portions but wasn't looking for bulk! Staff were friendly, cocktails were nice. Especially the espresso Martini :)
Great atmosphere with really tasty food. It is a little expensive for the portion sizes served but the flavour and presentation of the meals can almost forgive this.
It's a great place for a quick bite to eat at Southbank.
I have been here several times now and the food is absolutely delicious. The flavours are wonderful. The service is a little relaxed, but the food more than makes up for that!
Absolutely amazing. Me and my partner decided to come here for my birthday and we were both very impressed with the food and the service. We got three mains and a side to share and it was all delicious. The calamari was cooked to perfection, the wagyu meatballs were juicy, and the pulled lamb was so tender. All of the flavours were incredible and complimented each other very well. We usually find restaurant food lacks seasoning but everything was perfect. The cocktails were also great, the staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be coming back again next time we go to the city!
I've been to Next Door a few times now and I am still yet to be disappointed! The food is delicious and the menu itself offers something for everyone! Being australian styled cuisine though, there is a lot of meat on the menu of course... Once again, the service by the staff was fantastic (although one was getting flustered by a table of 10, poor lass!). In terms of price it was fairly reasonable for what my partner and I ate and drank. We had an entree, two mains, two sides, a cocktail and a cider all for $95.50. I know it seems like a lot of food, but we were so hungry and the food smelt so good we couldn't resist! Next door is a favourite of mine, give it a try and it could be a favourite of yours too!
Dined here last night on a second visit and was underwhelmed. First visit was a few months ago and we had a lovely meal. This time it was nice but nothing special. I had the snapper and it was overdone, 'champagne cream' was bland and it came with a couple of wedge sized potatoes and peaches. Friend had the lamb and it was ok. Service and staff are very friendly and just the right amount of attentive. Overall though we thought the place was average but probably won't return.
Great night was had. ( to celebrate Birthday nov.1). Enjoyed Next Door . Table was ready as booked for 6 people. Service was efficient and friendly. We had $40 each tapas as chosen by the chef. Took all the decision making away . Yeh . Males and females had ample splendid food. We are returning soon. Well done l
Yum!. Mostly great food :)
Prompt service.. with a dash of unneccesary attitude at times.
But would still return for sure
Great place!. The Peppered beef share plate and Parmesan with truffle oil fries is delicious. Great service and child friendly. One of my favorite places for lunch with the family.
Surprisingly good. Menu is small, but everything is well done and ultra tasty. Parmasan truffle fries impossible to beat.
Cannot find better service than here and the food is awesome. It disgusts me to see people complaining about the smallest things on this site. You wouldn't do it if you went to someone's house for dinner, so why do it to a small business that's just trying to get by, like everyone else is! Shame on you for being so critical - if you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say it at all.
I have been to this restaurant at least a dozen times and it is my absolute favourite: the ambience is always so vibrant, the food is always spot on with really creative combinations and the cocktails are just divine! Service has always been good and the staff knowledgeable. I would recommend it 100% and have done so many times before.
Best Breakfast in Southbank!. Tried this place at dinner and was told to return for brekky - so glad we did!! Awesome coffee, friendly staff and the cheesy sourdough is AMAZING. My new local :)
Cramazing (it's a word, look it up) food, great atmosphere and sexy location. Staff were a bit toooo attentive if you get what I mean but overall friendly enough. A lady with a middle-ear problem started belly dancing in the restaurant next door so that was great too (I use the word dance quite loosely here just for the record). Overall I give the restaurant and it's belly dancing neighbors 4 out of 5 bellies on my patented belly-score-matrix (BSM, look it up). Xoxo
Beautiful food, beautiful decor and attentive staff. Will be back!
Fantastic food. We ordered 12 dishes and 3 desserts, and every one of them was amazing!!
Kids love the truffle fries. We love everything. The kids get their vitamins from the ice cream shop afterwards and we have had a brilliant meal.
Was excited to find a place that ticked all the boxes, sorry it ended on a sour note. A friend and I went late afternoon we ordered a few plates to share and amazing cocktails. The food was very salty but still edible. The polenta chips divine. The cocktails divine. The service great. Then it started to get busy for dinner and we were asked to leave our table at 6:30. Fine, no problem. At 6 we ordered a last round of drinks and rudley our waitress replied "What's the time? You have to leave the table at 6:30". It was uncomfortable. She put down our drinks without comment or smile with the bill. $260 we spent to be rushed off feeling unwelcome. I understand the policy but we were well paying customers about to leave anyway. It left what was a lovely dining experience making me wonder if I would return.
Beautifully presented!. Been to Next Door a few times and we have walked out very happy every time.
The arancini, polenta chips, quail, beef fillet and garlic prawns have impressed everyone we have taken there.
Although you don't get much for what you pay for with the shared plates, we always get fries and cumin roasted carrots with our order so there is never not enough food. Service is good and consistent.
Was lovely with excellent service and presentation. Some dishes more outstanding (quail dish and orange cake my favourites) but the serving sizes are very small especially for their price
Finesse. Simply one of the best dining experiences I have had in a couple of years.
A group of five of us walked in off the street on a Saturday night in the middle of what looked like a busy service for the chef and his kitchen, to be greeted by friendly and attentive staff.
Started the night at the bar with some beer and wine accompanied by the Crushed Wagyu Meatballs, and the Chilli Garlic Prawns. The meatballs were loose and seasoned perfectly. The addition of the provolone and the light tang of the onion jam made for perfect beer food. I didn't try the prawns but my friends had nothing but good things to say.
We were promptly seated and presented with a couple of complimentary bowls of the Mount Zero (rainbow) Olives. Good quality bites. Pits in. We ordered a couple bowls of the truffled parmesan fries to share. I can't figure out just how chef managed to get such a brilliantly consistent truffle flavour into the shoestring chips. You don't get that flavour just by tossing truffle oil through your cooked fries and I would assume that he's not frying with truffle oil. Such an amazing flavour though, easily a highlight of the night, and definitely something that I will return for in the near future.
Everything on the menu is extremely modestly priced with nothing over $22.50. All five of us decided on the (perhaps a little un-imaginitvely) Carved Darling Downs Beef Fillet for dinner. The Next Door menu revolves around a share plate philosophy, divided into two sections; smaller plates, then larger plates. This works a treat, but the features of the larger plate section worked more than well enough to feed five full grown males individually. The 100g of beef or so was cooked medium rare and arrived pre sliced (I would assume this works for the sharing angle) with potato puree, horseradish cream, a splash of jus and a white onion crumble in a side ramekin. The puree was lovely and smooth and lightly caramel, the jus was of perfect consistency, the radish maintained that spot on amount of bite. Clearly top quality horseradish was used, as it was quite sweet. The side of crumble, while a lovely piece with it's crispy panko top, I thought could have been a little more caramelised, though obviously chef is going for a lesser caramel sight and flavour, being a white onion crumble. To be honest I think I would have been happy with a couple of whole roasted shallots. We were also lucky enough to be gifted with a few sides of the House Greens. They arrived to us as some crispy broccolini, seasoned, and tossed with some raisins. I only had a crack at one piece as there was just too much food on the table!
Following that we decided to share a couple desserts amongst the group. Something simple and that would please all of us was of the highest order and the Dark Chocolate Marquis with Salted Caramel filled that request. A pool of smooth, bitter chocolate mousse with a strip of salty praline and chocolate crumble went down a treat. I even ate a few edible flowers.
All in all, quite simply one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Everything, from the service, the drinks, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food beamed of brilliance and finesse. It's interesting to know that the people running Next Door also control the very popular Ahmets Turkish Restaurant (right next door, get it?) and the new Brisbane hype venue, South Side Diner, two doors down.
The highest reccomendation.
Beautiful restaurant- fantastic service, above and beyond. And the food is just gorgeous. Fun and funky atmosphere. These guys are clever operators. My new favourite!
Delish. Delicious, well thought out dishes. Wait staff are friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the food. Cocktails are amaaazing too. A south bank favourite
Went there on Friday night for dinner. Shared 8 plates amongst 4 adults and it was perfect. Food was delicious and came out at a good pace. Service was efficient and polite, which was all we expected given how busy they were.
Would definitely go back, however I would avoid the peak dining time as it was pretty noisy. The tables (bar-style) next to the road would have been quieter (they are away from the awning that funnels the noise from the different restaurants), so I'd request that next time.
Great service, drinks and snacks. Good work keep it up.
Generous tapas. Two of us dined here on a busy Saturday night. The wait staff were both friendly and efficient. The hard part was deciding what to order from the menu. We were very happy with our selections and the generous portion sizes. We thought we might explode when the parmesan truffle fries came out. We also enjoyed a few glasses of wine from a menu with a good variety of choices. Look forward to going back to try some of the other menu choices.
Sharing is caring. Visited on a Monday evening, thought it may of been quite along grey street, but stumbling upon Next Door Kitchen & Bar, we soon found out, there are a few hot spots that are always busy. There just happened to be a spare table to accommodate the three of us. Our waiter was happy and friendly, even though he was clearly under the pump. It was an easy menu to read. But hard to choose what to begin with. Oyster with gin and crack pepper vinaigrette, flash fried school prawns with smoked paprika salt (interesting and delicious) Pea arancini, coats curd aioli and coriander oil, probably the one thing on the menu with the least flavor, but still enjoyable, Panzanella salad, vine ripened tomato, w.a white anchovies, basil pesto, if you order one thing on the menu make it the salad. Fresh amazing taste w.a anchovies beautiful. Crushed wagyu meatballs with provolone, sticky onion jam, three of them to this dish and that was enough to finish our sharing experience. Love this concept, been to a few places now that are incorporating sharing into their menus. Keep customers on their toes, we can try more and I find we tend to enjoy our dining experience more when we share. Have to add in, try the house made hooch. Great flavors, something not a lot of places are trying, but it fun and different.
Great service great pleasure to sit in such a warm environment. Food was epic share plate galore. Orgazmic deserts mouthwatering.
Food was absolutely DIVINE! Staff were very attentive and welcoming
I love this place. I went, for the second time, on a busy night & received good service from friendly staff. The food is fantastic (I love the Parmesan truffle fries) & on a cold night we sat outside warm as toast due to the heaters (& the wonderful cocktails!)
It made a very crappy day end on a very good note. After having a less than pleasant day my sister and I headed into Southbank in an attempt to salvage it with good food and our trip in was well rewarded. There were no tables free when we arrived however, shortly after sitting at the bar and ordering a cocktail each (both were delicious) our table was available. The service considering how busy they were was impressive, the food was amazing especially the cured ocean trout and the pea arancini. The meat balls were good- what we could fit in! The polenta chips were also good (but in my opinion mine are better). We are both looking forward to returning for more delicious experiences.
Love it. Great little new addition to South Bank. Went here for my birthday with a group of friends a couple of months ago and had a great time. Stylish setup without trying too hard, though could use some more ventilation. The staff were super friendly and efficient, food was well presented and each dish has it's own flavour, lots of good and interesting variety. I had a couple of cocktails and definitely no complaints there either. The venue caters for both larger groups and couples and I will be back in the future.
Been there twice, both times the food and service was excellent, faultless. I will definitely be going back.
Fab service, get the Parmesan fries!. Next Door is a cool spot. Really like the moody decor, Tom Dixon brass lamps and the lovely little touches like chemistry flask carafes. Napolean cider is the perfect drink on a warm day. And the parmesan fries. Oh my.... so good. As are the meatballs and the cumin-roasted carrots. Prawns were chewy, not a highlight but the accompanying black sausage was delicious. What really stands out is the service. I have been 3 times and the waitresses have been unfailingly friendly, accommodating and efficient. A great spot for afternoon nibbles and a cheeky cocktail.
Quite good.... My partner and I stopped for a late lunch here on Australia Day. We were impressed by the size of the Tapas share plates and had meat balls with onion jam, flash fried shrimp and a roast vegetable plate. This, unlike at most Tapas places, was more than enough for both of us. The food was good, not great and on the plus side, the wines were good and the staff friendly(and honest: I accidentally overpaid and while intending to leave the change as a tip, the staff still saw it was too much and returned it.) I would recommend this bar to anyone but I won't plan to go back. Maybe if I'm just passing...
Had dinner and drinks with a friend last night. Great service and very nice tasty food. The beef cheeks were amazing ! Would definitely go again. I love the share plates!
We had a late lunch at next door on a Sunday, from the few dishes we tried I think the tapas is better than any I've tried in Brisbane. The cured salmon was firm & full of flavour, the house made potato chips went together with it really well. The crisp school prawns were subtly spiced and had the best aioli I've had in ages, I could have eaten a bucket full. Even the fries were awesome with the hint of truffle salt. I wasn't drinking but the bar is fully stocked and there's a decent drinks menu. Apart from the waitress forgetting waters for the table service was spot on. I will return
Great all-round. When I see 'tapas' or 'share plate' I think 'expensive and still hungry' - not the case here! My wife and I had two starters, two share plates and a side which was too much to finish so tasty. All of this with excellent service and a bottle of full-bodied, fruity Shiraz (Clare Valley) for under $100. Well worth a visit.
The textures in this dish were very interesting. The eggplant kasundi was tasty and the labna mousse was light and fluffy.
I would definitely recommend Next Door Kitchen and Bar for a fun night out full of great food and wine and if you’re getting into the Gatsby Spirit with the highly anticipated, soon to be released Great Gatsby film why not reserve a table for the Next Door’s Gatsby Soiree to celebrate the movie release and their new limited edition cocktail menu on May 30th?
All tapas styled dishes that sounded amazing and the best part: no line up on a Friday night. The restaurant was quite busy, but the staff joined 2 small tables together and we were seated almost immediately. It’s not often when you look at a menu and think, “You can order whatever you want, I would be happy to eat it.” But that was the case!
With the slogan "Next Door Kitchen and Bar; a nod to the 1920s," this restaurant is one of the newest to grace South Bank's shores. It's certainly a classy establishment, with beautifully presented share plate food, fabulous cocktails and sleek decor - perfect for a girls' night out. But seeing as it is a themed restaurant, I would have expected to see a bit more 1920s flavour.
I had been wanting to go there for a while. Located next door to the ever so popular Ole, this casual dinning restaurant is always packed with people every time I walk past it. Its menu is exactly like its ambience, light and pleasurable, suitable to be enjoyed with good company. We ordered a few of their popular dishes, including gangster chicken wings ($9 for 8 pieces) and flash fried school prawns, smoked paprika salt ($14.50) with aĂŻoli on the side. Both the dishes tasted fantastic.
Next Door Kitchen and Bar has modelled itself as a 1920′s Prohibition style venue, probably more so in its cocktail list and its very dark colours, rather than the food or actual design. If you think there will be flappers and velvet antique couches then guess again, as the design comes across as modern rather than the theming that they were going for…. however, if you do get excited about drinks being served in jars, then this is your place.
Next Door Kitchen and Bar opened a while back but like most new 'drinks' venues, I find it harder to generate an excuse to visit. Marc and I like a good drink as much as the next person but when we go out, we prefer places that primarily focus on food. To me, anything that has 'Bar' or 'Lounge' in its name will always seem more appropriate for larger social gatherings. Last Thursday night, I made a special trip to Brisbane for a goodbye dinner with all my friends before Marc and I head off to Europe next week. I plucked Next Door Kitchen and Bar out of my list of potential venues as the perfect location for drinks, food and catchups. The inter
