Review Fire And Spice Restaurant - Brisbane

Nathan Campbell
Excellent $25 Sunday buffet. Be prepared for spicy dishes, although they do have Dahl and cassava dishes that are not spicy. Most authentic in Brisbane. Taste is soo good. Lassi is also excellent. Book ahead otherwise you most likely won't get a table.

Good food but too expensive for the portion size. Used to get good size portions but for a $18 curry I got in the smallest possible container. Not value for money anymore. Such a shame.

I have been here a few times now and each time has been a 5 star experience. Wont disappoint any lovers of Sri Lankan food and even for those that havent tried before there is plenty of variety both spicy and non spicy. Quality is always fresh and service is exceptional and very friendly. Compared to a lot of places it is reasonably inexpensive but you can get away ordering little as the meal sizes are quite generous to share around.

Fantastic spicy food, well presented in a nice setting. I would have given five stars but the bill was incorrect (wrong more expensive food item) and as this seems to only ever happen in the favour of a restaurant I made it a habit to deduce a star. There is parking outside as its located in a shopping strip center on Old Cleveland road. Indoor and outdoor seating available. There is a buffet on Sunday nights. Prices not cheap but ok, portions normal size.

We found this place in June and the food was excellent! It was true to its tagline 'a taste of Sri Lankan'. Everything we ordered were authentic Lankan cuisine. But the last few months have been very disappointing. On our last visit the chicken was uncooked, kothu was all mushy, the rice in lamprais was not fully cooked. Some of our friends had similar experience as well. I have been on the look out for a good Indian or Lankan restaurant for a really long time and once I found this i was over the moon! I really do hope they figure out what the issue is and improve.

We went for the buffet with a group of friends. All you can eat hoppers with rice and curry. Dessert was also included. Food was tasty but the hoppers which are traditionally gluten free was not! So I couldn't eat it. They were good to include string hoppers just for me. I found that it was too expensive for kids under 12. They charged $18 per child. We went for a serve of hoppers for our two kids. If you are Coeliac or have any other allergies you need to be careful of the food. They told me that the only thing i could not eat was the naan and hoppers however their fried rice had soy sauce that was not gluten free and the devilled fish was battered in flour. So please make sure you keep asking them questions. They seem to be naive when it comes to food allergies.

Yummy great Sri Lankan food, great for family out..

Ordered through Deliveroo after checking reviews. Food was surprisingly average, except the deviled fish which good but not spicy. The green jackfruit curry was so salty it was unpleasant, the naan was undercooked and the roti was also undercooked and salty. So unfortunately, wouldn't order again.

Great service and amazing food whether you order at the restaurant or takeaway! Try their goat curry, it is really one of a kind! Always recommending this place to others.

The food was very bland and too salty. The food doesn’t taste like Sri Lankan. The hoppers were not warm and fresh. We felt like it was made 2or3 hours before. We went with a lot of expectations but came out with huge
disappointment.

Delicious food beautifully presented at very reasonable prices! Excellent service and it's BYO, you can't lose! This is bound to be a regular haunt for me!

I was taken here for lunch today by a Sri Lankan friend. The meal was excellent and competitively priced. My wife is from Sri Lanka and she cooks this kind of food at home - so I know what I am eating and I know what I like. This was perfect. I wish I had known about Fire and Spice on my previous visits to Brisbane,. I will certainly be back.

Pretty cool atmosphere to have dinner there with nice Sri Lankan background music...excellent customer service with a smile. Very minimal time of wait after the first order. This is the first Sri Lankan restaurant where I have tasted the authentic Sri Lankan dishes. We were amazed how they have cooked the devil pork and devil fish..and it was very delicious. We also tried their mouth watering Koththo Roti too. We enjoyed the every second we were there. We highly recommend to anyone to go there to have a go..All the curries were reasonably priced..Our Next visit there will be the Sunday buffet night...all you can eat for $24.00(I think)...BTW, there is a Wine store next to this restaurant. BYO allowed...

Went here after returning from Sri Lanka. Tasty food but definitely overpriced. A single curry would have literally two pieces of meat for $15-17. It has potential but missing the "homely Sri Lankan rice-and-curry" feel.

Had the pleasure of visiting this excellent restaurant last week. We ordered some dishes off the menu including a fantastic devilled fish dish and a creamy potato curry. Great presentation and service. Good size portion. The prices were also reasonable.

Plenty of parking spots available in front of the shop and also undercover.

The owner was too kind and generous to offer us cake as desert for FREE which she said she baked in the morning.

The whole dining experience was amazing. In my opining this is the best place for an authentic Sri Lankan meal. Would go there again and also recommend to others.

Great food and great service! Very proud to have this quality of Srilankan cuisine in Brisbane.
Coming from Srilanka I can assure the owner has got the right balance in adapting flavour and culture but still withholding its authenticity.
Highly recommend you to try "falooda (a sweet drink)" and "kottu (classical srilankan dish").

We used to LOVE this place. The special rice and butter chicken was to die for.... im not sure if management or chefs have changed due to the fact that each time ive given them another chance, im left with bland tasting food. Maybe thats why the place is forever deserted?
Little Lou
Inconsistent. Ordered butter chicken 3 times from this place - first time it was so good we thought we had found our new local Indian takeout joint. The second time the butter chicken tasted far too salty and nothing like the first time we had it. The third time we ordered a large butter chicken which only contained approx 7 small pieces of chicken which were drowning in the sauce. Safe to say that we won't be back.
Charith
Terrible hoppers and bad kottu. Quite expensive shocking quality food!

" Fabulous ". A perfect Restaurant with a lovely ambience, owned and operated by a lovely family who provide efficient and friendly service, the food is delicious, portion size just right, at a reasonable price.

Delicious & Good Value!. Everything I've ever ordered from here has been spot on! Excellent curries with succulent meat and the vegie options are really impressive. I like that they don't consider their spiciness rating as being 'western hot' but truly hot. Very friendly staff too which are more than happy to explain menu items if you're a first-timer. So glad I found this place with quality takeaway really lacking in Coorparoo!
Sonya
Worst experience. Food was nice. But the varieties I've been told over the phone, wasn't there on the Buffett menu. When asked been told we have to order separate.
Customer service was bad. Owner ignored when we called out & only one waitress who couldn't handle the customer request & forgot whatever we asked.
Ordered a coke but instead giving a can with a glass, we had a 2ml coke with glass full of ice. Pretty much had icy cold water with a hint of coke.
Very disappointed & would never ever go there. Instead prefer Indo-Lanka restaurant in Darra & La Kandy restaurant in Tingalpa. Ceylon inn is the best anyway.

Real Spicy food. The name pretty much spells out the food you get here. The food is very spicy and seems to be very authentic Sri Lankan food. I have made three visits and all of them were buffets on Friday, Sat and Sunday. The food lacked consistency as the Fridays buffet was really spicy and great, Saturday was not that great and then Sunday dinner was good with alot more variety. Overall, this is a great curry joint and good value for money and they do serve authentic food. This is a great place for those seeking some real authentic spicy asian food with a kick to it. You cannot beat a $22 buffet which includes a nice variety of dishes and condiments.

Fire & Spice - Coorparro, Brisbane. With plenty of Indian choices around the place, this is one that is recommended if you want something that is a bit different. My dining buddy is often up for that, and was one that was nearby. An authentic Sri Lankan restaurant in suburbia, Fire & Spice is popular enough with locals - particularly those with kids - for a no-fuss, relatively well priced feed. One of these reasons is the buffets that they have on the weekends (and that includes Friday night in this regard).

It was a Sunday night, which meant they had their weekly Sunday buffet - three courses of the best that Sri Lankan cuisine has to offer. Many suburban places have their limitations with space when attempting to set up a buffet; Fire & Spice manages better than most of them. The interior is pleasant and has a warming feel to it, plus several tables are able to be layered out in an efficient manner. Kudos goes further that this is an outlet in a suburban shopping junction.

For the buffet, that night there were several finger food starters, about half a dozen different kinds of curry, a couple of forms of rice, the side condiments of salad, naan and poppadoms, and - even though I was too full to have them after a couple of plates - several desserts and the signature, iconic hoppers. There is enough here for everyone, and it will be pretty hard to go home on an empty stomach. When we got there, they were still setting up the meals. Some of the pans were not yet open, and some were yet to be put in. It was not too early to take a start.

There was ample amounts of the starters: with curry puffs, what seemed like fish cakes (I think they were made from tuna) and plenty of tandoori chicken thighs, like most other cuisines, you could darn well fill up on the starters without any room for the rest of it. The chicken was great, succulent and juicy being able to be ripped straight of the bone.

The curries were more descriptive as opposed to other cuisines - like Thai or Indian - who have a special name for each mode of preparation. Here, it was basically what was in the curry. From the array, I tried a bit of potato, beef, fish and pork curries as well as a generous lashing of dahl. These curries, while not at "Thai hot" levels of spicy, certainly are a slow burn on the tongue. Each bite gets a little spicier, and even the starters have a distinct amount of spiciness to them. This is coming from someone who has taken on spice challenges, and often asks for the dishes at other restaurants to be really spicy (especially during cold season). In each, the bits of meat were well cooked and tender, the potatoes were soft and moresih and there was a complex masala of spices within the sauces. Even the dahl was as exciting amongst it all. To go with it was some delicious, buttery roti. Mix all this with rices on offer - steamed or a more interesting saffron biryani - and it is a great meal.

During the meal, both of us ordered a drink known as "Falooda". This is a drink popular in Sri Lanka and the surrounding nations that consists of: milk, rosewater, ice cream, tapioca pearls and jelly. Can you say sweet? I was surprised by just how big the serving of it was, and it is one drink that could easily seen some business at sweets, smoothies and dessert bars. It was creamy and works a treat; you could come here and just have that on its own (maybe with another dessert) and it would be a satiating number within itself. Well worth it for trying something different, and without that novelty still well worth it.

This is not a bad place. For something that has the familiar atmosphere, it works well to allow people to try something different. It can show how unique from Indian Sri Lankan cuisine really is, and is a great, filling easy meal for relatively cheap on nights when you do not feel like cooking. Fire & Spice is quite worthy of its reputation.

It's a Spiiicey Meatball !. If you like it hot and spicy, well boy have I found the place for you. We had the Sunday night buffet for $22 and it was an excellent introduction to Sri Lankan cooking. My lips were numb: tick, my forehead was sweating profusely; tick, I felt dizzy and staggered when I stood up; tick. What great value and such an interesting selection of dishes. I particularly enjoyed the chicken Curry and the creamy potatoes. We also drank a Faluda, which for the uninitiated is a drink popular in South Asia consisting of milk, rosewater, tapioca pearls, ice cream and comes with a high Yumminess factor. Other interesting items on the menu were the hoppers and the elastic but tasty rotis. If you are tired of the bog standard Indian I would definitely try this place as an alternative.

Good food. Checked this place out after receiving a flyer. Was there for lunch and was pleasantly surprised with this place. We had the chicken curry and devilled fish for lunch and it was delicious. The fish was especially good. We would have prefered if the food portion was a little larger for that price but Indian food are generally more expensive than others.

The menu was a little limited in terms of curries but would recommend this place for something different.

Just left the place with a bitter taste in the mouth. Being a Sri Lankan, I came to the venue with the expectations of authentic spicy and tasty sri lankan food. However, to my surprise the famous Sri lankan roll, deviled fish and prawn curry tasted no trace of Sri Lanka. It tasted blunt and completely over priced, a small bowl of katta sambal around 50 grams costed me $1.90. If you are after a real meal of srilanka, this is not the place to dine.

We were looking for late night takeaway and came across this.
Was trying it for the first time have to say really really impressed.
Awesome food with super quick service.
It's a place where price is equal to super quality and quantity.
For sure we will go back.

Love the spot.. Enjoyed the deviled fish curry and the cashew nut curry a lot. The best so far...The portion was big. The whole experience worth the money. Definitely go back again and recommend to everyone. Thank you Fire & Spice....

Pleasantly surprised by this small restaurant!. Thought we'd try this new Sri Lankan restaurant after seeing their flyer in the mailbox. Being a small place the waitress was very friendly and helped us choose our dishes. The homemade beef spring rolls we had for entrees were delicious - large with chunky beef pieces in the middle. For mains we had 3 curries - the chicken, cashews and prawns, with saffron rice and pappadums. The curries had a unique flavour, mildly spicy but also slightly sweet and creamy at the same time - very different taste from Indian. The waitress told us the magic ingredient was coconut sauce. Portion sizes were also very generous, next time we will have to skip the entrees so we have room to try the desserts!

Probably the worst take away i've ever had! Spent $105 on around 5 meals, terrible quality and tiny portions, 2 of the tubs looked half eaten before we even started, cashew nuts in one of the meals were mushy, food tasted terrible. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and definitely would not go back there!!

Tasty food and lovely service, although they are a little slow. We had the chicken curry which was full of flavour and not shy on the chilli. Also had spring roll which was large and tasty. The fish and chips were also good and the large chips is actually large!

Beautiful food. My husband and I dined there last night. We chose this place because it was close and had food my husband likes, such as burgers and food I like, such as curry. We shared a beautiful plate of salt and pepper squid. My husband had the steak burger which he enjoyed and I had the most sumptuous fish curry. I especially loved the pappadum. It was quiet so we could talk and the food was delicious. The service was outstanding and the affordable price was a bonus.

This place is a real gem! The food was absolutely delicious and with such a mix of options to choose from it really caters for everyone. The staff were also extremely friendly and the service was great. Definitely looking forward to going back again!

Fire and Spice -A great dining experience. Love the place. The food is so delecious. You can tell that the chef has a true passion for food. The presentation is excellent. You will be pleasantly surprised with the balance of the food and the price.

Too salty. Nothing special to deserve the high marks ... Infact the meals were generally too salty for our liking.

Genuinely delicious food. I love this place! Great service and the food is absolutely delicious. The 3-course banquet's a great deal at $25/head and plenty of variety. Love love love the creamy fish curry. Definitely going back for more.

Beautiful food and well priced. I went with a group and we were all looked after and enjoyed our meals. Would recommend the banquet for first visit.

Great food, well priced. This little place has only been open a couple months. Its quite cute and definitely serves the best curries in the area. They have a great, well priced menu (there's not much over 15 dollars), so you can afford to try a few entres. We started with the beef spring rolls, which were thick, tasty and home made, then had the fish curry and garlic prawns. The curry was somewhere between a typical fish curry and a peanut curry, just the right amount of heat to still taste the flavours (I do love chilli though) with a nice thick consistency. The garlic prawns were equally delicious, but my girlfriend only let me have a couple! I would say that this place is not just for curry lovers, as their curry range is not huge, but they do have a lot of other options (even burgers and wraps prob to cater to lunch trade). It's a unique menu, if anything my one suggestion might be to put chilli strength next to the curry dishes on the menu (for those that like/dont like chilli). Of course you could just ask as the staff were very friendly! When we went it was pretty busy and it was mainly family working. All in all, excellent food and very well priced. You're getting rice with the curries too so that's like a further saving, not having to buy seperately and there was no charge for corkage. You can see that the owner has some good family recipes.

Great food, great prices and great service! Best garlic prawns I've ever had. Discovered these guys for dinner one night and couldn't wait to go back for lunch the next day to try out other menu items. Also recommend the beef spring rolls, must be home made they are soooo good! Do yourself a favour and check it out!

If you love curries, you must dine here- Fire & Spice is a rose among thorns compared to other offerings in the area. The previous reviewer mentions that the owner has been a chef for 15 years, and this merit certainly shows in her cooking. Though their menu is a little eclectic, every item I have tried has been mastered to perfection. The standard of quality and depth of flavour of every dish makes this my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. I only warn that this is a new restaurant, and I think they didn't anticipate the overwhelming demand. There can be some delays. However I can guarantee that your patience will be well rewarded!

Great Discovery. We were queued for a seat at Sushi Train Greenslopes so had a quick check to see what else was around, and discovered the Sri Lankan restaurant "Fire and Spice" at Coorparoo. What a treat. We had the fish curry and the deviled chicken, and both were superb. The fish used for the curry was fresh reef fish, and was cooked to perfection. They were served with lovely garnishes, and saffron rice, and exhibited an exquisite use of spices. Both meals were priced at about $14.95.
The service was excellent, and, when complimenting the owner /chef when paying the bill, she told us that she had been a chef for about 15 years, and that her recipes had been handed down by her mother. When we discovered this great find, the restaurant had only been opened for about 6 weeks.
The food here is lovely and very reasonably priced, and the restaurant is BYO as well. Highly recommended.
