Review A Thai 5 - Brisbane

I've been ordering from this place since 2018 and have always been content with the food! I always enjoy the yellow duck curry and coconut rice. The salads are delicious and have great flavour. 🤤

I ordered the pan seared Barramundi and the Sweet Duck curry. The Duck Curry I paid extra for both vegetables and duck so my total for 2 meals was over 50$ (no rice, just meat and vegetables). When I opened the container I honestly thought they must have forgot a bag or something the portion was so small. I called to see if there was an error to which the self described owner began to talk on the phone. I was told if I was not happy with it that I return it, and that she assured me she added 2 x 140g serves of duck. She obviously did not. Paying almost 30$ for <150g of duck is disgusting. My partners fish was bland and tasteless. How disappointing.

Panang chicken had no veges at all just chicken that had half the worlds salt in it. Beef massaman tastes just the same as the chicken..terrible. Coconut rice was awful and it's definitely not good value for money. I'll be heading back to Samford Thai for sure!

An excellent Thia restaurant with delicious cuisine! I had the perfect 👌 prawn dish with coconut 🍣 rice! The prawns were $22.00 & the rice 🍚 was $4.00! There was a group of 8 of us! The total bill was only $168.00! Everyone agreed that we would all return there! Excellent service from the young man 👨 who served us! Thank you A-Thia-5! I sincerely enjoyed the food & the quiet atmosphere as Greg & I are early. A family business. The owners wife served us on discussion. Very helpful & friendly.

Don't ever eat here .one hour after my meal I ended up with food poisoning. Had to call ambulance for assistance.

When you mention Thai cuisine, a thousand good memories come back to my mind. When you ask me to name a few favourite spots around Brisbane... well, A-Thai-5 is one of those! Give me some authentic Thai dish - takeaway or dine in - and you make me happy! Is A-Thai-5 a flash trendy restaurant with a panoramic view? Not at all! But it is certainly a great restaurant for those people looking for quality food in Mitchelton neighborhood. See you there.

The quality of the Tom Yum soup is exceptional. If they get the soup right, the rest of the menu is usually delicious, and it is!

Had sweet and sour pork and seafood perfect as they call it. The seafood dish was salty but paired with coconut rice was very tasty. The pork however tasted a bit weird and was quite dry

Basic decor but don't be misled, the food is amazing! Have been many times and have always had beautiful food. Try the chicken satay skewers, pad Thai, Cee Da, or the curries. It seems to get busy on Friday nights so we have had to get takeaway cause there were no tables left for us :(.

Dined here for my birthday as I wanted something local and have heard nothing but good things about this Thai spot. Staff were very warm and welcoming, even giving my two-year-old son his own special plastic plate, bowl, cup and cutlery. A small gesture but one that made him feel special!

We started with the o-cha rolls – rice paper rolls with a warm meat filling – and these were delicious. A very big serving so we shared between three and they were fresh and full of flavour. For mains, I chose a pork red curry with jasmine rice. Perfectly spiced, lovely flavour and a nice amount of heat too. It was a really good curry and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My Mum chose duck pad thai and while the duck was a little greasy (as duck often is) she said the flavours were delicious and enjoyed the dish. My Dad chose the laksa with barramundi and it was a HUGE portion! For a man with a big appetite, he wasn’t able to finish it! A little creamy towards the end, he still really enjoyed it and we all had a lovely meal.

It is BYO which is great, service is quick and meals were fresh and packed full of flavour. The whole table enjoyed our meals and as a local, I will definitely be back. I was really impressed at how happy they are to cater for food intolerances and diets – the whole menu highlights that gluten free options are available and there is a strong emphasis on vegan options. I’m not vegan, but thought it was quite impressive for a restaurant to serve traditional food yet offer alternatives too. Highly recommended for great Thai food.

Have had 3 Uber Eats meals to date from A Thai 5 and all have been amazing. Last night was the Gluten Free family pack, with Satay chicken entree, Chili and Basil stir fry and Choo Chee curry. It's great that you can customize the heat of each dish as you order, and believe me, when they say hot it's HOT! Fast service and delicious food. The negative comments on here are simply wrong.

They take steamed dim sims to whole new level. They were the best I’ve ever had! We’ve been a few times and it’s now our go-to Thai place. Dining in is always nice then you can take leftovers anyway! If it is busy though, their service can fall a little however it doesn’t seem to affect our experience. If you’re a fan of coconut rice like me, theirs is a must! We had green curry and the chilli and basil, dim sims, rice for each of us and drinks $62.00 - so quite accurate from the price point they state.

Decided on uber eats delivery from here after reading all the great reviews. Ordered the beef pad Thai and my partner had the Panang curry. Fast delivery by uber which was great, however the pad Thai and the curry hardly had any bits of meat in it. Although the taste was quite nice compared to other Thai takeaway places I have tried, it seemed like the servings were cut a bit short in the container. Still satisfying but still can't beat our fave Thai in alderley !

Was driving around without any plan, and finally stopped over at A Thai 5. Nothing exciting on the menu; pretty much like most of the Thai restaurants.

The stuffed wings cooked beautifully just that the stuffing was a bit dry and crumbled. We normally didn't like any curries in any other restaurant as they were way too sweet. Then we ordered 2 stir fry-chicken chilli and basil and chicken cashew nuts. Both dishes tasted quite nice and very close to their authenticity. The portions were reasonable. The only dislike was the vegetables were overcooked rather than tender-crisp.

Let's talk about the service, there was only a young waiter. He provided a prompt and helpful service. We had asked for more fresh chilli twice and got it within a second. He also offered to refill more rice for us. Fast and focussed.

Beautiful food. That more than makes up for dated decor and in any case there is plenty of seating outside. Staff were friendly and helpful.

My go to local thai - authentic, delicious and the service is always friendly. A little Mitchie gem. Faves are the Massaman and the o-cha rolls. Great kids menu too catering for those who may not have the taste buds for spicy thai food.
Hayley
Feels like you're in Thailand. The waitresses' English is very broken and communication is somewhat a struggle but the food is delicious and they cater for gluten free.

I have been here many times and while it may not be the best thai in Brisbane, the meals are always consistent and the staff friendly. It will continue to be my local thai go-to.
The Tasty Plate
A Thai 5 is my local Thai food restaurant and we often go there to get our Thai food fix. Apart from the dim sims, I am not a huge fan of their entrees, but the mains are really good. The Thai laksa, sizzling chicken, fried rice and the Pad Kee Mao are a few of my go to dishes. The wait for take away is generally only about 20 minutes.
Cate
The entrees are good, but the rest is just discussing. Once you get past the décor, plastic cracked cups, boxes of rubbish in the dinning room (a closer look reveals that most of the sauces are cheap packets, nothing authentic about the dishes). $138.75 for 4 meals and 2 entrees- overpriced

Great Authentic Thai. Having just moved to the Brissy 'burbs' from Melbourne I was keen albeit a little nervous to see what our new local thai would be like. Was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the food in this hidden gem if a restaurant...! Will definitely be back again.

Best food ever..!. Our first visit and not the last. Just had the best Thai ever...better than in Thailand. We had O Cha Rolls and Tom Yum Gai for starters...wow! Tropical Lamb Curry and Soft Shell Crab Bang Na with steamed rice for mains...simply awesome...the most amazing taste sensations. The service and surroundings made for a perfect evening. Will be back to start filling up their loyalty card stamps.

Dawn Paul, Mitchelton. The Tom yum soup which was terrible.....there was no flavour at all..it is not worth $15.00

Local Delight. Has become one of our favourite haunts for dinners and for takeouts. Prawns in oyster sauce, duck in special sauce and chicken cashew nuts....yummmmmmmm!!
Maureen
Loved this restaurant! Delicious food - excellent service - cute little location.

Definitely going back x

Absolutely fantastic!. Being vegan, it can sometimes be difficult to go out for dinner without being restricted to the same handful of meals every-time. However a thai 5 has plenty of options for people with special dietary requirements, all of which were clearly displayed on the restaurant door. Service was fantastic, the food was quick, reasonable priced and totally delicious! Though small, a thai 5 is absolutely beautiful, and I will be returning again soon!

A nice little suburban thai restaurant, fast and very friendly, yum!

Great food quick delivery and great service. Thank you.

A little gem. I little gem found in the suburbs. Very good food at an ok price. the benefit of being able to order your meals online with a photo to reference is a fantastic idea. Not only does it give you a good idea about what you are ordering but it stops the confusion that sometime occurs when ordering due to the language and accent differences.
Also the quality of the food is top notch, no off cuts here.

Very busy and for good reason. Very good food and fast. Excellent service - haven't had service like that in a very long time.

Consistantly GREAT. I have been getting my Thia Takeaway from here for the past 4 years and it is consistently great! Flavors are delicious, food is always fresh and the price is right and always service with a smile.... Best takeaway in Blackwood street!
Luke M
Great Thai. We have travelled the 80 km numerous times for their Pad Thai. Anong the chef there was a street vendor and her authentic skills have carried over here to provide the best thai in QLD.
Matthew O
Consistently great takeaway. Quick and fresh. It's my go to for when I can't be bothered cooking

Awesome!. We went with a party of 8 (incl 4 kids). The entrees we ordered for the kids were very well presented and tasted great. We tried 5 mains - they ranged from very good (red beef curry), to great (pork laab), to sublime (Panang Salmon, chicken yellow curry, chicken pad kra praew). All the flavours were very fresh and distinct. We were extremely impressed, and would rate the food at or above much of the food we've eaten in Thailand, in terms of intensity and variety of flavours. Meals were all brought out in quick succession.
Service was spot-on eg. we weren't ready to order the first 2 times (talking too much). When we'd finally decided, the maitre d' came to our table without us having to say a word. Long after the meal, the kids were getting a bit ratty and again, the maitre d' came over with lollipops.
It was a fantastic dining experience, and we were bowled over when we got the bill $90 for each family of 4!!! That included corkage ($8 total) and a round of icecreams for the kids after. It's unbeatable value for such high-quality food.
I will definitely be returning.

Excellent!. I have eaten at A Thai 5 around a dozen times in the last year and have found the food to be excellent each time. We keep bringing family and friends here and find that they also love it and come back again. The entrees are all nice but the chicken satay sticks and O-Cha rolls are a must to try. The Penang Prawn curry is beautiful and the Tropical Lamb curry is also nice. The service is very good and the chef likes to come to the table and have a chat to you which is a nice touch. The prices are reasonable - we generally pay around $35 per head for entrees and mains which is well worth it for the quality of the food. Highly recommended.

Sensational! Just got delivery from these guys and it was terrific! Beef panang best I have ever tasted. Wife got a prawn green curry and she's still raving about it. Top notch Thai from A Thai 5!!!!

Consistently Yummy Thai. We have ordered Takeaway a number of times from this establishment and have been constantly fresh and tasty food! They also have great "family" packs which are convenient.

Great customer service and they also have a loyalty rewards which is a bonus....

Exceptional. A friend, who is a regular, took us there for dinner tonight and I'm so pleased he did! The food was exceptional, the atmosphere brilliant and service outstanding.

Un-impressed. New restaurant replacing a long standing well known Thai Restaurant.

Mixed entree was mixed however not the items that were listed on the Menu. Deep fried items were soggy and unremarkable, sauce from a bottle.

Main was more of a Chinese style than traditional Thai flavours. Vegetables were fresh and meat was lean. Fairly standard fare.

Plenty of room for improvement

A new name and a complete change. The new owners of this location have changed name and the entire feel of the place.

There is a warmth in the greeting as you arrive, and the food lives up to that greeting.

There is a freshness to the food and the combination of flavours works exceptionally well in each of the dishes we tried.

This is going to be a place to return to often.

I highly recommend that you try this genuine representation of great Thai food.

Perfect Thai!!! Great quality food, fantastic service and very friendly staff. My partner and I have been addicted from the first time we tried food here and we now have Thai twice a week. If you love beautiful Thai food this is the place for you!
