Gyoza and beer were excellent, as were the bao buns and karaage chicken. Ramen was served in a massive bowl which looked impressive, however the noodles were a bit gluggy and the broth could have had a stronger pork flavour. Overall 4/5.
The tonkastu ramen is flavorful and easy to finish, unlike saltier or packet variations. While the egg half was still cold inside and edged green/grey yolk (obviously refrigerated), the pork stood its own and allowed a refreshing palate change. The stoneware bowl allowed the ramen to remain hot, and the complimentary water helped cool down the burns I got from slurping up the noodles.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed eating and drinking at Tatsu ramen gyoza bar. I ate all the gyoza on the menu which had wagyu, pork, veggie, hot and prawn fillings. They were great to eat with Asahi Dry Black which was better than normal Asahi. Pork bao was also phenomenal and they fry their buns which took it to another level. Teriyaki tofu was also equally superb. I didn’t get to try ramen (their specialty) so going back there on my next trip! It’s a fantastic bar and I give this place 4 bears.
Great ramen! Excellent spiced karaage! Great atmosphere. Reasonable pricing. Good cocktail list. Fast service. Will definitely be coming back!
Went here for a quick lunch with the partner whilst in Brisbane's China Town.
We ordered the:
- Salmon Sashimi Bento Box: fresh pieces of salmon, crunchy potato cake, fluffy rice and tofu (unfortunately soggy and difficult to handle). Deliciously hot bowl of accompanying miso soup.
- Vegan Ramen: interesting mixture of vegetables, including edamame beans, carrots and beansprouts. The broth was a little light on flavour.
Very friendly and efficient service. Casual ambience. Reasonable prices for the portions given.
Overall, a good lunch stop for comfortable Japanese cuisine.
Absolutely wonderful dining experience here last week! :D
It was a cold winter night and i decided to catch up with my friend for some Ramen to warm us up.
We walked into the restaurant, on Thursday evening and there was a nice cosy little feel to it. The staff welcomed us on the way in and sat us down immediately at a free table to the side of the wall. There were some other people sat around us in groups which created a good atmosphere.
I love the decor in this venue, and the lighting made it extra cosy. We both went for the Spicy ramen, which was just perfect, and got some of the spicy Gyoza as well...everything spicy to warm us up! The ramen was served in Extra large bowls which was a funny/nice touch, kind of like a gimmick, but inside the bowl, there were no gimmicks, just really delicious high quality ramen. The staff touched base with us a few times, and refilled my water any time it was empty which was great, and overall it was a very pleasant experience. They certainly did enough to secure some repeat business from my friend and I, and we look forward to going back (maybe this week or next)
My personal favorite is their Akaoni extra hot ramen , sooo good !! This place is hidden away in China town not easily noticed , but once you taste their ramen youbll keep coming back !!
Visited this restaurant for dinner. Staff are very nice, welcoming and attentive. Very fast service. We loved berry blossom mocktail. We had a voucher. Despite our mistake about their set menu suitable for omnivores they warmly offered us a vegetarian menu. I had Japanese food only a few times. Food was nice. The ambience was nice too. It wasn’t noisy.
I went there for ramen some friend. We all enjoyed so much we're going back next week. We ordered the assorted gyoza, tonkotsu ramen and vegan soo ramen. Staff were very attentive and helpful with us. The establishment was also clean and tidy.
This place was cosy, friendly, and had an impressively diverse and wordly drinks list (including mocktails, sochu, Japanese beers, and plum wine). Most memorably, it was home to THE BIGGEST spice challenge in my living memory.
We all very bravely, and against our innermost cautions, ordered the extra extra spicy ramen. It came in beautiful and humongous tilted bowls with equally humongous spoons, and soon was filled with our tears and snot as we struggled through the heat. From what I tasted, it was delicious, but next time I think I'll go one step down spice wise! My arrogance around my penchant for spice is now humbled and I urge other arrogant spice lovers to embrace the challenge (but maybe work your way up).
We also got the vegetarian gyoza, which were really delicious, and a few beers too.
The staff were great and the ambiance lovely - not sure why it wasn't buzzing, as it was a fab place and I would love to try it again!
friendly fast service (there weren’t a lot of ppl tho so maybe that’s why). anyway even tho the menu doesn’t specify which options are gluten free they did have gluten free options when i asked and they presented me with a gf menu so yay for that!
yuzu blush cocktail was great. absolutely loved it. would recommend if you’re keen on fruity cocktails.
wagyu steak was also good. i think i would’ve preferred more steak but i guess it’s a standard price for 150g of wagyu. it was cooked rare and delivered in a sizzling pan. their special bbq sauce was also a treat. fries were good too. very happy with this meal although they could’ve improved by adding more than just a slice of tomato and some sprouts as the salad part
karakara (medium spicy) ramen came in a huge bowl & curry ramen tastes exactly as it sounds.
rice beer - i’m not a fan of beer but i guess it was slightly less offensive than normal beer hahaha
anyway a great place to eat japanese food in the valley and catch up with friends. definitely planning on coming again :)
Nice little place serving Japanese staples like donburi, Gyoza and $15 bento box lunch specials. I had the pork gyoza which was was priced well and reasonably tasty. Also had the black sesame ice cream which was a little understated for my tastes. Nice clean and stylish atmosphere.
Awesome place completely fell upon by accident just walking past, really cool fit out, great staff and cold beers, and the food was perfect and really fresh will be back there a lot and am stoked to have found it!
Stumbled upon this hidden gem for lunch today and was not disappointed. We tried ramen, sashimi, yakitori and dumplings and all were delicious. Great ambience inside and service was friendly and prompt. Highly recommend checking this place out
Love the spicy ramen and the massive bowl it comes in. Soup is delicious and all the trimmings are fantastic. Wish the bento boxes were available for dinner also though.
Went here on a Monday night a while ago and had delicious skewers and bao buns. This is a fun restaurant and bar to go with friends and its a place to stay a whole, with booth-type tables against the cool art mural wall. The drinks were very cheap too!
Had a Groupon dinner at this restaurant last Saturday. Located at Duncan Street of Chinatown mall. Lay out expresses vibe of contemporary Izakaya and it is good for small group gathering and parties. Followed the set menu and the first lot of food came to the table was Edamame, Zaru Tofu and the Salmon & Avocado rice paper wrap. I love all of them. The Tofu was the first time that I had and it gave me refreshing soya bean taste (4/5). In addition, the salmon & avocado matched each other, particularly with the elasticity from the rice paper that retain the time of matching taste of mixed protein and veg. in the mouth. It is a very clever invention (5/5). The next lot of food was the Kushiyaki set which consists of three different skewers, chicken, pork balls and chicken balls. I have no problem with their skewers as they should be the signature dish of this Izakaya due to the name of this eatery is Yakitori. All the proteins of individual skewers come with individual character and juicy meat texture (4.5/5). The next lot of Deep-fried chicken wings and calamari was slightly let down. Calamari was tendered but the chicken wing was too salty and the idea of this lot lack of "wow" effect (3.5/5). However, the dessert of Yuzu sorbent deserved a big TICK, the sourness od the Yuzu and the cold sweet taste from the sorbent really cleaned up all the grease left over from the deep-fried chicken wings and calamari, well done (4.5/5). Overall, much appreciated that there is a Izakaya serving something that reserve the spirit of Japanese food with nice contemporary presentation. Cheers! You got the key for the door of success.
Wow this place is fantastic!! Tasty food, really interesting cocktails, excellent service. Such a big improvement on what used to be in this space in Chinatown!
Some of the best Japanese food I've had. The Ramen was full of flavour, the Gyoza were excellent and light, the Chicken Teriyaki was simple yet tasty, and the Chicken Karaage also great. The crockery the food is served in is spectacular, especially the Ramen bowl.
Will definitely come back. Highly recommended.
All the skewers were excellent; charcoal cooked and very tasteful. All the other menu were the same from Okuman and quite pricey. They do have a big bar and collection of alcohol, so maybe if you were mainly drinking and having a little food this may be a good place.
This one was mixed. They have only been open a short time but there bao was disappointing and mainly due to the bun. The sashimi however I would go back for and the service was very friendly.
Stylish Japanese restaurant including a bar in the middle of the restaurant and a takoyaki bar! Lovely atmosphere! You must order the ramen and you will be amazed by the size of the bowl! The eggs were delicious and different as they have a little bit wine taste, maybe Saki. Not recommend for the rice ball.
New kid on the block in Brisbane Chinatown Mall, Japanese and reasonably priced - a perfect loco for group events and gatherings! Or even for a cute date. The food here was fantastic and we were very impressed. A massive yes to the honey soy chicken wings and the soft shell crab bao. To die for! Their ramen was also great, delicious broth which is always important!
Yay. A fantastic japanese restaurant in the valley with kitchen open til 11pm. I tried chicken heart skewers - a little too rich for me but I had never had hearts before. Octopus with wasabi - amazing. And soft shell crab bao - I am not an expect on bao . The ones I have had before were a little doughy. These were beautiful light toasted bao and the flavours perfect.
The waiter was very helpful and friendly. Service very fast. I grabbed a take away and their menu, which I have been reading and excited to start working through.
Highly recommended
