Review Brunswick Hotel - Brisbane

D.G. Rebbechi
4.5 Stars Wow, I am into the Chef Specials at the Brunswick Hotel. I have tried two of the Chef specials. Both were seafood, and both were delicious. ( The grain fed rump was good too when I ordered from their standard menu, and they cooked it just the way I asked!!) Today's Fish of the day was a garlic seasoned crusted ( with just the right amount of salt, mwah!) and generous serve of Salmon, served with Char-grilled eggplant, roasted tomatoes, and a potato bake with spinach and seasoned with just enough grain mustard. There were some lovely Chat potatoes perfectly cooked as well. The sauce was seasoned for some bite, and it was presented in what I felt was an artistic tribute to the face of an Atlantic Salmon, or some other worthy creature. Grab your brolly, shorts and havianas ( well, they're the least slippery of my shoes) and enjoy a good value meal at the Brunswick despite the current rain. The drinks are cold, and the service is thoughtful from friendly staff. They have big screens featuring sport, and the layout of their bistro means even when it's crowded noise levels are not unpleasant. There are well-appointed and positioned bathrooms that are always clean. They are observing their Covid rules. The outdoor area near the front bar just of the street could use a rethink on the layout, but I think I am falling in love with this good value local!

Absolutely outstanding service for years. We have been coming to the Brunswick for years for all sorts of occasions and sometimes just a quiet catch up with a mate. A place for all to feel included and safe.

FOOD & DRINK The Brunswick is part of the ALH Group, whose stable includes the Indooroopilly Hotel, the Newmarket, the Morrison and many other pubs around Brisbane. We’ve dined at a number of them and always found the standards to be consistently high. We’ve never been disappointed at an ALH Hotel, and the Brunswick was no exception. My wife and I dined on a quiet Sun night. We started with the beer special, a schooner of Great Northern Super Crisp at $6, and a glass of Prosecco ($8). Great way to start the evening. As seniors, we were able to avail ourselves of the discounted seniors menu. For entree, we choose the calamari, with chips, salad, lemon and aioli. It was delicious and chewy, and came with a generous serve of crunchy chips and salad. For our main meals, we both chose the 250g rump steaks with pepper sauce for me and mushroom sauce for my wife. Unbeatable value at just $16. Steaks were beautifully prepared and well cooked just the way we like them, but still tender and full of flavour. Steaks come with a choice of two sides, I chose chips and caesar salad, my wife went for the garden salad and mash. It was all perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals, so thanks to the hardworking chefs. We couldn’t have been happier. For dessert, our all-time fav, the sticky date pud at the reasonable price of $8. The pud was sweet and moist, and came with fresh cream, a dollop of ice cream and finely sliced strawberry to top it off. Perfect way to end a fine meal. AMBIENCE We both loved the relaxed, casual, laid back ambience of this place. The bistro space is large, spacious and airy with stylish, trendy decor and comfy chairs. It’s carpeted throughout with colourful artwork on the walls and low mood lighting to give it a perfect atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that you’ll feel happy to be in. On the night that we dined, it was fairly quiet, just a smattering of other diners, but that added to the calm and unhurried vibe. Acoustics were good and we were easily able to converse. SERVICE Our server, Morgan, was neatly turned out in a smart white serving jacket. She greeted us warmly and throughout the evening, she was friendly, efficient and attentive. Orders were promptly taken and drinks came out quickly, followed by the entrees and shortly after that, the main courses and then dessert. We arrived at around 6.00pm, by 7.30pm we were done, and that’s just how we like it. There’s also the option for electronic ordering, using a barcode affixed to a little disc on your table, but being a quiet eve, we found ordering with the waitress the easier way to go. TOILETS The toilets are sparkling clean, modern and well provisioned. They look pretty new too, or recently renovated, with ample male and female cubicles, strong lighting, rows of shiny basins and fast hand dryers. They’re well signposted and easy to find just behind the bistro. COST Taking advantage of the seniors' menu, we paid a modest $74 for two glasses of wine, a schooner of beer, an entree, two main courses and dessert. That’s outstanding value for money when you think that a humble cup of coffee now sets you back almost 5 pesos, so thanks to the ALH Hotel Group for this generous initiative to help out long suffering seniors. PARKING We found easy street parking on Brunswick St, opposite the hotel, where there were no weekend or after hours restrictions. The hotel also has its own car park, which you can access via Brunswick or Kent Streets. SUMMARY We had a fab evening and everything ran smoothly. Food was outstanding and served in generous portions. The cool ambience is perfect for a relaxing meal with family and friends. Service was efficient and polite. Add to that, clean and modern toilets, free parking and modest prices and you have an ideal evening out. They have poker machines too, if you want to have a little flutter after your meal. Thanks guys, we will definitely be back!

Popped in tonight for a late night drink and was surprised to find what a great venue the Brunswick has become. There is certainly lots of space with a couple of different bars and really friendly staff. We really enjoyed the outdoor venue with a bit of greenery. They is also a small area with a streetscape, then upstairs there was another terrific indoor bar area with stools and tables. And yes worth a mention, some really great toilet facilities! There is also poker poker machine faculties. The downstairs bar featured shelves loaded with bottles of gin, vodka, various whiskies and even some Japanese style unique bottles of spirits. It's a really great atmosphere at this hotel with lots of different areas to spend time enjoying depending on whether you're just a couple or a group of friends. There are some great old paintings and photographs of the Brisbane area and the hotel on the walls which really add to the feeling of nostalgia in the venue. See photos. The decor is modern and fits the Brisbane/ New Farm vibe. Open until 11.30pm on a Thursday, so if you're out and about when other venues in New Farm are closed, this is the place!.... we will return.

Went to Brunswick Hotel on the weekend and really enjoyed it. The staff in the beer garden were super friendly especially Sul who made us feel right at home and was really helpful and lovely. Great customer service.

Still one of the best pubs in Brisbane. Always great staff, great food, large servings and fast service.

Dropped in for a quick drink and found the place was busy but without being overcrowded. Easy to get a drink, good outdoor area and decent beer selection. Good prices too.

Take an advantage of Entertainment book for a dinner at this local hotel at New Farm last night. Venue is quite big and there were not a lots of diners due to early 6:00pm. Service is very friendly and hospitable. Order duck spring rolls and soup of the day for entrees and Mushroom risotto and a Rib Fillet as the mains. Surprisingly, dishes were ready very quick. Duck Spring Rolls are crispy but soup was average. Although there were lots of mushroom in the risotto, it did let down due to the rice was suspected not freshly cooked and overall it is not like the tasteful risotto that we usually had. Hero was the rib fillet with perfectly done as request - med-rare. Texture and quality of the steak is superb, which saves a lots of marks for the review. We will come back for other dishes on the menu.
Rating 3.5/5

We came here for a birthday party, and had the salmon and prawn chilli pappardelle. Both were a delight to eat, maybe more prawns but the flavours were amazing. Service was excellent and we were never left waiting.

So, I went here last night with my fiancé and my dad. There were about 4 other tables with people. The waitress managed to order the wrong burger for my fiancé, and his chips were inedible. Surprising, because he LOVES chips. Dad had a steak that looked alright, but was quite tough. I ordered a Grazier’s pie, expecting one of the fancy ramekins with a beautiful pastry on top. I literally got a meat pie on a plate with the driest mash potato I’ve ever had, and mushy peas that you could stand a spoon in. The only saving grace to the meal was the amazing gravy that came with the pie. I finished that off with gusto.

The waitress was very apologetic about the burger, and we got it for free, along with a free beer, but it was incredibly disappointing. Don’t go there.

We had quite a feast that day and may have over ordered 😅. To start with, we had the onion rings and it was moreish and generous in serving. Delicious! As Grace is now eating solids and particularly like noodles, we ordered the spaghetti for her. Well, my baby is pretty fussy and I think she gave two thumbs up!

Always call in here for pre dinner drinks before visiting one of our favorite restaurants across the road. Usual order is the Mumm champagne & a VB for the partner. Service is always very pleasant & we love the new renovations

This place is becoming my little local. Its your typical pub/beergarden, but the restaurant they have inside is a little treat.. the menu isnt overly large, which i honestly prefer, and its a list of your 'what to expect" at a bar but just taken up a couple of notches. Possibly just for being New Farm, but i dont care, cause ibe had the risotto, which was cooked to perfection and serving size was well above what i could consume, ive also had the steak (typical) but i must say, their red wine jus is done properly, not just some cruddy replacement. Beers are great, staff could be a little better, but all in all, if you want a chilled day, with a nice decor and entertainment, definitely pop in and check this place out. And if you havent been in a while, at least just go stick your head in..

Food overpriced and waited for nearly an hour for our meal.. Went there for dinner last night ,ordered the chef special ..beef and reef and pasta and side chip..waited for nearly an hour, sent it back my steak (medium) it was well over done for $32 .. 200grms,mashed potato,1 broccolini and 3 calamari as topper with a no way creamy sauce ,very disappointed and I do agreed with other past customers not to go there anymore.

Brunswick hotel new farm. Very good after refurbishments but the staff there have a very bad attitude problem. I have been there about 10 times in last year and never had good friendly service. They are shocking.

You're amazing!!!!!! New farms best pub/bar!!
My friends and I love the brunswick hotel. We live locally and the brunswick hotel has recently had refurbishments and it's awesome! It is everything we hoped for and more- great environment and friendly staff! We had an afternoon drinking in the new bar and one of the staff brought us a DELICIOUS pizza just for being there drinking for the afternoon. Thank you so much for making our Saturday afternoon with friends unforgettable. Once again you're the best :)

We had breakfast there this morning. Could not fault it in any way. All our dishes were delicious ,presentation very classy and good price. Congrats to chefs. We will be back.

Refurb gets the thumbs up!. I was a little worried that the Brunnie would lose its raw charm with the renovations, but after visiting on the first weekend since the opening of the new bistro and outdoor area, I'm impressed. Great food, good wine list and a really good vibe. And the old front bar is still its lovely self. Looking forward to the next stages of the refurb.

Great Rump. I come here for Trivia on Wednesday nights and go for either the steak or the burger each time. Both are everything you would expect from great pub counteries. The pastas are ordinary though, as are the curries. Great for a basic, good pub food, friendly and fun. One of my favourites :)
Colin
Don't judge a book by its cover. Step inside and enjoy some great pub food.

The food at this place is great, I wouldn't have eaten here had I not run into my well to do neighbours who suggested it. Atmosphere is good, food and service is fantastic.

Bland and boring. I attend trivia at this pub every week and the food is so boring and bland. The menu never changes, even the specials board only changes by one item each week.

The food is boring pub food at its worst. My usual back up for pub food is a steak and even they aren't cooked very well at this establishment. To make matters worse the food is over-priced. I'd much prefer to eat before I come to trivia but often don't have the time.

Please consider shaking it up and adding some flavour!

As locals we had never been attracted to this old fashioned looking hotel but we tried their kitchen recently and we were impressed infact we have been back for lunch twice. I believe they have new kitchen staff and they are making an effort delivering fantastic value for money. Don't expect a 5 star setting or ambiance but it is a great old pub feel with no pretentions. Don't miss the lamb shanks - up there with the best we have ever had. Staff are friendly and helpful. People watching of the old regulars in the front bar has a charm of its own. Don't miss this before it's turned into yet another "trendy" pub.

Solid pub food. I come here every week for trivia (which is great) and the food is definitely on the upswing. It's "just" pub food but done pretty well, particularly good is the caesar salad. The singapore noodles is an interesting addition to the roster. Serving sizes are good and price is ok. Good vibe to the place helps as well.
Matt
Food is ok but beer disgusting. They don't clean their lines & all beers taste the same. Not to mention the dero clientele & feet sticking to the floor. Karaoke on a Thursday can be entertaining!!

Brunswick Hotel. Saturday night, dinner for 6. We went for the $11 special. A rump steak/grilled snapper, salad and chips PLUS a glass of wine or a beer. What a deal. Food was great. Salad was fresh with a light dressing, chips were fat and crisp, steak was perfect and the fish was so so. Plenty of parking out the back. Tip - enter the Bistro through the back door at the carpark. The front door has smokers lined up like a guard of honor.
