Review Cakes By Judy C - Brisbane

Angelo Lenti
We would like to thank Judy C for the amazing and delicious cake that was made for my 50th Birthday. We had the Lemon Delicious and had so many comments on how good it was. Will definitely order your cakes again for our next gathering. Kind Regards, Angelo & Renee

Thanks for the cake Judy! I saw you highly recommended on a community group on FB and I was not disappointed. Thanks for providing such a fabulous service and product! Love love love

We were wanting a more traditional wedding cake and after consulting with Judy the cake that she made for us was better than we could have imagined, beautiful smooth icing with classic sugar work florals, just gorgeous. Not only was our wedding cake beautiful it was also delicious! Our guests enjoyed it so much that there was hardly a crumb left. Thank you to Judy and her team they are the best!

Absolutely love this cake. Thank you Judy for the delicious cake. This is my second time ordering cake and everytime its better and better. So easy to order over the phone and very professional.

My wife and I went here for a high tea this afternoon. Very nice food and very good service (to my embarassment, I didn't get the name of the young lady who served us, but she was great). Recommended.

100% recommend. A lovely cozy, quiet place to drop by or sit down for a delicious and reasonably priced coffee, tea, cake or high tea. Also a fabulous selection of top quality jams and condiments at really great prices too.

What a wonderful experience. For someone who had never had high tea in his life, my first time was close to perfection. Thanks Cakes by Judy C, that was a lovely experience. The dessert and quiche were on point and the scones were so delicious. The tea was even better. So worth the time and money we had spent.

These are the photos of the one on the Groupon and this is what our quiches looked like. We DID come in for a High Tea with no booking and the lady working there was lovely. HOWEVER the location does have 5/6 stairs so is not easily accessible, also if you are plus-sized the chairs and size of the tables WILL make you nervous, they are like very light-weight lawn chairs and small tables. The HOUSE-MADE relish served with quiche and jam served with scone were fantastic! Nice spot for a rainy day tea for two however would DEFINITELY recommend using the Groupon as I would not pay the estimated $50 on this deal, around 25$ is reasonable

Food was pretty good and young girl serving us was flat out busy but still managed to be lovely. We were overcharged a lot though and when I tried to explain to Judy what had happened she was not interested in replying and when I asked if she had received my email she just said she had but didn’t have time to reply. This was 4 days later. Finally she offered me a $15 store credit which I feel is is bit cheeky considering it was their mistake. Really disappointed as I took grandparents and daughter their for 18th birthday but it ended up costing me a lot more than it should. I don’t consider that good customer service at all. Business owners need to follow up these things and offer to rectify.
Cino's Mum
My mum’s full of catch phrases - ‘patience is a virtue’; ‘clean your plate’; ‘good things come in small packages’ & I had the pleasure of them all over a celebratory high tea here with the matriarch herself. Sage advice aside, this was a truly delightful & charming high tea from a lovely local business at a great price.<br/><br/>Served in 2 courses we started with savoury quiches which were very good. Then sweets: scones with jam & fresh cream (‘don’t lick your knife’) + chef’s selection of petit fours - today it was vanilla cupcakes with buttercream icing, melting moments & caramel slice. These were also very good. Pots of tea washed it all down nicely. Did I mention this was all just $25 for 2 people?? And we were absolutely ‘full to pussy’s bow’ (which is around your neck I’m told).<br/><br/>Our enthusiastic servers Josie & Gladys genuinely wanted to ensure our experience was special: following up, taking pics - we appreciated it all.<br/><br/>Cakes, slices & take home gourmet treats inside are worth a visit alone. Our cupcakes were really light with a delicious crumb & decadent soft icing. So often cupcakes are style over substance, let down by the actual cake...but not Judy’s. Nuh uh.<br/><br/>Okay so no champagne or ribbon sandwiches but I’ll trade pomp & ceremony for charm & quality any day. We enjoyed the true community feel of locals popping in for a coffee or to grab a cupcake for the kids after sport. <br/><br/>Thanks from mum & I!

Dined here for high tea today with my girlfriends and it was so lovely!! I had a Living Social voucher and the value of food we were given was amazing. The waitress, who said it was her first day on the job, was so friendly and welcoming. We sat down and orders were taken for teas and coffee (the chai latte is yum). Not long after, 4 quiches arrived and they were delicious! After we finished the quiches, our plates were cleared and new ones were given. This was a very thoughtful gesture. The sweets came on a platter, with the scones being lovely and soft. I loved the jam and also the pineapple cakes! Everything was spot on, and I will be back to have some more cake for sure!

We bought a cudo voucher for a high tea. I wasn't sure what to expect.<br/><br/>Was pleasantly surprised to find parking right out the front.<br/><br/>Walked up to a delightful shop. Very pretty and some delicious looking fare.<br/><br/>The service was great. We ordered our drinks and were served 2 different types of quiche. Try were lovely.<br/><br/>Then we were bought out the scones and an assortment of sweet treats. I loved them all. <br/><br/>It is a great place i would definitely recommend.

This cute little cake shop is so much more that it seems. You can have a high tea at the quaint tables and chairs outside the store, or order a special Occassion cake including wedding cakes. Gluten free is available too.<br/>The cakes and slices taste home baked not mass produced and the coffee is smooth and rich. There are individual quiches on offer too. Fudge, preserves.. it's a treasure trove!!

Came here this afternoon with a high tea voucher. Loved it! Very friendly service. The quiche and scones were warm and yummy! Will be coming back here again for sure!

I've been there twice now, and haven't been disappointed. The Tim tam slice was amazing, but my favourite was the bounty slice. I wish I bought more than one!

Been here twice for high tea. They really do go above and beyond from customer service to quality. Everything that was given to us was surprisingly delightful from the freshly made cream to the warm moist scones. The sweet treats were all devine! Well balanced and pure perfection. Only problem is that it's a little pricey especially there is not enough savoury accompaniment to the sweet selection. But quality wise- well worth it!

I have to say that when I book in for a deluxe high tea, I expect more than just two quiches as the savoury part of the selection... What about the cucumber sandwiches and pies??? <br/>The dessert selection is not bad but I feel there is no balance between sweet and savoury. So much so that I had to doggy bag most of the sweets. <br/><br/>Service could improve and be a bit more prompt. <br/><br/>Sweets are definitely on point though.

Rude service over the phone, ordered a fruit cake with fondant. It was overly sweet, dry and badly decorated. <br/>I also have bought their macarons which are so unauthentic - the French would cringe - and terrible consistency. I don't think they were fresh.

Had a wonderful high tea here. The quiches, scones, petit fours were scrumptious. You just had to ignore the attitude of the grumpy guy behind the counter and when he delivered the food.

Who knows what you get as everything is unlabeled. With rude service after asking what the items were. Not inpressed and wouldn't return to rude service and average product tossed into paper sandwich bag and flung on the bench at me.

Nice cakes but very rude & egotistical owner!!!!!. Went to Judy C for High Tea and was disappointed at the Owner's attitude!!<br/>The small and unappealing shop has 5 tables 2 of which are a decent size the other 3 are tiny little things with milk crates as chairs!!<br/>This Saturday Judy C happened to be selling her wedding cakes to some customers and obviously she had the best table in the house, she never acknowledged us or the other ladies that arrived after us but we thought she was busy and that she would come around OHHH please are you kidding me at the end of the very important meeting she left the table dirty and went inside to never be seen again!!! Kenton was on his own minding (coffee making, table cleaning & servicing, organizing of the high teas, taking monies and also attending to any one who came through the door to order or enquire about the cakes) We were in awe of all this while she was in the kitchen totally oblivious of whatever was going on out at the front of HER SHOP!!! So thank you for your very rude service Judy C I give Kenton a 5 stars for his GREAT work and manners but YOU I have no interest in seeing again!!

The worst gluten free orange & almond cake ever!!!. I've heard a lot about this establishment, so I thought it was long overdue that I paid it a visit.<br/><br/>Admittedly it was Friday afternoon, so my choices were limited, together with wanting a gluten free option, but from the small selection available I opted for an orange and almond cake. As I'm gluten intolerant I eat a lot of gluten free cakes and this would have to be the most tasteless, dryest, bland cake I have ever eaten. All at an overprice cost of $4.25!!!<br/><br/>Needless to say, I won't be going back and I'll be spreading the word!! Extremely disappointing :-(

AMAZING HIGH TEA!. I had the best experience at Cakes by Judy C. The service and staff were fantastic and the high tea was beyond delicious. <br/>I can highly recommend it to anyone.

Mini-high tea perfection!. Second time visiting Cakes by Judy C. The sweet treats here are of such a high quality. The quiches are to die for (perfect home made short crust pastry!) and the melting moments are easily the best I've ever had. Had to buy a jar of the home-made chutney to take home! The service is always prompt and friendly. Can't wait to go back! I highly recommend Judy C's to everyone who enjoys a gourmet quality high tea.

Delicious Mini High Tea. My daughter and myself visited Judy C today for the first time for a Mini HighTea. The food was delectable and the service friendly. The tomato/onion relish that accompanied the quiche was the best I have ever tasted. The melting moments were divine so too the scones.<br/><br/>All in all the experience was 10 out of 10 - one of the best High Teas we have had.<br/><br/>We will definitely be back.

It's taken a long time for me to finally visit Cakes By Judy C - but I'm glad I finally did! Although there is not a huge selection to choose from the cupcakes are so so good! Forget the tiny, dry, tasteless, overpriced cupcakes you've had at other places in Brisbane - Judy C's cupcakes are luscious and moist. We loved the black forest and caramel bomb cupcakes in particular!

Love Love Love. I always walk in here to a beautiful smell and a friendly smiling face. Could never write anything negative about this shop!<br/>Prices are very affordable and the product is of great quality. <br/>Coffee is delicious, and great price! <br/>I always get a quick response in regards to a cake order, and it's always way above my expectation. <br/>I also love that it's back off the street, means I can sit on the terrace and get some work done. Beautiful surrounding.

Disappointed. I recently was in contact with this business about ordering a cake for a function. I made contact originally via email & this was followed up promptly by a call from Judy C..Her manner was business like but she seemed organised on the phone so initially I was impressed & I had arranged to come into the shop at an agreed time on a Saturday. When myself & my husband arrived on time, we were told that we didn't have an appointment with Judy C & needed to make a time to see her! I explained to the lady that was working behind the counter that we did have a time to see her & it was the time that we showed up..she then went & checked with Judy C out the back...after a bit of back & forth we arranged a time for the following week. My husband was that annoyed that he had to walk out of the shop. I didn't like the attitude of this lady, nor did I appreciate the fact that Judy C herself couldn't come out & talk to us in person seeing as though we turned up on time to an appointment that I had organised with her over the phone. There was no apology for their error either. After some thought I decided to cancel the appointment & decided to contact another business for a cake - so I informed Judy C via email that I would not be going ahead with ordering the cake to which I got a reply. The day before the function I had a missed call on my mobile from Judy C asking me to call her. I called up & spoke to Judy C & she said 'we have you down in our appointment book for a cake for tomorrow & we haven't heard anything from you' I was pretty surprised that A) if they knew that I had an order in why did they suddenly call me the day before the function, surely it takes more than a day to make & decorate a cake?! & B) they had already acknowledged my email of cancellation (obviously the email was not sent by Judy C herself , probably another staff member that forgot to inform her boss). I explained on the phone that I had sent her an email wishing to cancel the order & that I got a reply acknowledging that. I never got an apologetic response from her, just something like 'oh right' was her response..a very embarrassing error on her part...but the least she could have done was offer an apology. I am sure that their cakes are amazing & i have read all the other great reviews of this business..but I was offered bad customer service from the start and after this experience I won't be going through this business again. It was really unfortunate that the girl gave us bad attitude on the day & I also thought that Judy C herself was quite unfriendly over the phone.

It's all about the cake!. Tiny place but done out nicely. Seriously great cakes - this lady knows how to bake!! Very cute and coffee was good too.

Love this place. Definitely one of the best places to get a coffee in Ashgrove. Fruit toast is delicious and when it is available, the coffee cake and cherry pie are freaking delicious!! The staff are lovely and have good taste in music (if you like Elliott Smith). It took me a while to discover the place but I have been back almost every day since.

Delectable treats. Cupcakes were divine.Iced tea was tasty and refreshing. Service was frosty. Judy C was rather standoffish with me and my friend. It's a shame seeing as the product was excellent but the service by Judy C just brought the experience down.

Cute shop to drop by. This cafe is really tiny, just an addition to their main business: Cake catering. The sight from the terrace is not that great...you need to try to look inside the shop full of cute, pretty, mouthwatering cakes. My girl friend and I bought a voucher for high tea for two. My gf normally does not love scone, but she admitted Judy's scone was really moist and fresh. I first thought the portion could be tiny, but both of us felt so bloated that we had to turn down iced berry tea. Coffee was a bit bitter, but complimented the sweetness of cakes we had. They matched perfectly. They know what they are selling!
