Review Noodle & Donburi - Brisbane

Debs Reyes
Not satisfied with my visit. Food was fast and big portions, but tasted nothing special. The skinny male server who took my order was in a hurry. He must be very hungry as I noticed him rush to a seat and had his lunch. And they sweep and broom the floor while customers were eating their meal!

Quite like this place, was pretty close to where I was staying and convenient to public transport nearby. Portion of the food was good and cheap, staff is ok service could be better. Would still recommend

Affordable and tasty! Two for one beers during the week was definitely tempting but we decided to stick with lychee ice tea (yum) though the green tea ice cream wasn't ready yet 😪

Great food! Lovely staff! Awesome place and ambience! So many great options!

How can a restaurant serve dried out karage like this? It seems that the kitchen have reheated leftover fried chicken. Very disappointed...
James Pendergast
Had the $14 beer special, great deal and quick service.
Sarah Chezick
Had a very long wait for 4 sushi rolls and 1 edamame (35-45 mins) which was not ideal as they were not particularly busy. That said, the food was delicious. Medium pricing.

Not recommended for anyone who want to have a good Japanese food it’s quite very disappointed. Rice is not cook good fish is not so fresh( I don’t know that because they cut fish and keep it in refrigerator or the fish itself is not fresh ) for me is not satisfied at all. But if you just come to buy food to fill your tummy is ... less than fine you probably walk somewhere else to find better food for me the quality is quite below the price what I pay even it isn’t expensive at all.

please don't go to this place they pay less than minimum wage for workers

service was pretty bad. Sushi was dry and lacked flavour. Vegetarian stir fry noodles was just full of cabbage and onion and lacked any decent vegetables. The spicy ramen was nice.
Melissa Wilson
It was okay. Chicken teriyaki donburi wasn’t what I expected and I’ve had better sushi. Service was great though, fast and friendly. Very clean and quite a few people in for lunch.
Geoff
Food is good and fresh not fancy but quick and quality. The menus is limited but lack of variety is made up for by efficiency. The room is very very noisy as no soft furnishings but cleanish as a result. Try the rolls or a bento box

I come here every now and again for lunch, always busy but it never seems to take too long to get served and for food to appear. The sushi and gyoza are consistently well made, well plated and taste excellent. Having them just around the corner from work is a bonus.

We enjoyed the food here was actually great value for the money & the staff were sweet. Nice vegetarian selections in particular the vegetarian yakisoba & veg ramen. They also had sushi rolls which looked delicious
Mandy Bernadette
Great value for money! Simple but delicious, authentic food in a prime location. Friendly staff and I've never waited longer than 10 minutes for my food. If you want a filling lunch and feel tucked away from the heart of the hub, try here!

This is a good little spot for a quick lunch through the working week. The staff are all really friendly and the value for money is great, serving sizes were huge. The sushi wasn't bad, but it didn't taste as though it was the freshest. I got the tempura vegetable which was good but it was covered in this sweet teriyaki style sweet sauce which I didn't enjoy, far too sweet and clashed with the fried vegetables. There is room for improvement here, but I would go back and give it another chance.

Quite a nice place to sit in for lunch but very disappointed with the food. Teriyaki chicken was stewed or broiled, not grilled like it usually is, and sauce was overly thick and soggy. Friend had yakiniku beef which was also bland and very average. Both meals were also lukewarm. Not going back in a hurry.

The place was nice. However, the food was rather disappointing. Ordered pork katsudon - katsu was soggy and gravy was a little too salty. Would be better if there was something fresh in the bowl as well.

Great place. Loved the dishes. Great location. Wished I ordered more dishes however I went in this restaurant with a full stomach. However great service as well.

I've been here many times because it's so close to work, and it's not very consistent. The ramens are pretty average. I like to order the udon soups, chicken karaage and curry with rice. My pet hate with this place are the credit/debit card surcharges (for every type of card!).
Kira Keitomaro
Extremely generous serving sizes. Could not fault the food as such and service was attentive and friendly. My only comment would be the servings are too big!
Kimi Pangilinan
Restaurant itself was clean. Selection was okay. Food wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Went there on a Sunday night, so service was really fast and efficient.

I am officially offended. This is not Japanese cuisine. It's not even made by Japanese people, nor are the staff Japanese.
I would call it in-edible. My food was cold in the middle and was disgusting. I do not understand why so many people go there. It's always full at lunch time.

Never ever going there again.

So placed my order and explained I was highly allergic to prawns so please no prawns and asked them to tell the chef. Meal arrived with all prawns. Sent it back. Second time it arrived with more prawns than the first time. Decided not to risk it and left. Totally unimpressed.

Extremely slow, and bad food, inadequate pricing. Paid at half past 12 during a non-busy lunch hour, got served 32 minutes later.
Average food, with 2 cold springrolls. Outside is room temperature, inside is very cold, like just got defrost.
They advertise the food without GST. There is no advertising to mention the GST exclusion. Only noticed there is a tax added to the bill. Although this is small, it is in breach of the fair trade law.

Good luck for surviving. I shall not return.

It has its strengths and weaknesses. The food takes forever to come out, even with about a dozen customers (individuals). I visited with co-workers, and since we were having a nice chat, we didn't mind it as much. They seem to run out of food pretty fast, we were there at 6, for dinner the gyoza, karage, and something else i can't quite get my finger on. The tuna sashimi was still a bit frozen. I understand that sashimi grade fish needs to be frozen first, and I also understand that most restaurants cannot afford to make everything fresgh on the day. It is very normal for foods to be frozen (though people dont seem to want to admit), however, the tuna just didnt have enough time to thaw, and it wasn't that pleasant.

I didn't really enjoy the udon as i found the soup to be a bit flavourless and the udon noodles itself didn't have the texture of quality udon. Though they do give you a crap tone of tempura though and that definitely is a plus.

Their takoyaki was amazing. I LOVED the batter. HOWEVER, i was quite dissapointed that there was rarely ever an piece of octopus in there. I wouldn't mind paying more for them to put a decent chunk of octopus in because that is the best batter I have ever had.

Go there for the sushi. The ingredients are of great quality and the presentation is amazing. A flavourful and worthwhile 6-12$. They are not stingy about the toppings and the garnish what so ever and is better than any ordinary sushi roll you can find at a sushi bar around the area. Mind you the presentation is beautiful.

OMG. So bad. I ordered takeaway chicken noodles and when I got back to my hotel room there were just 2 tiny over-cooked pieces of chicken in the whole dish. So mean. Will never go back.

Rudimentary. On a not ve.... Rudimentary.

On a not very busy Tuesday night I was served an average Teppanyaki Chicken and over cooked Japanese dumplings by a rushing waitress/front of counter staff.
I'm just visiting Brisbane so I'm glad this isn't my local Japanese eatery.
Britpop
Depressing and utterly charmless dining experience.
Ordered gyoza and curry udon. Both were slow to arrive. Also arrived cold! Obvious that the gyoza was fresh out of the freezer and the udon was just rubbish. Noodles out of a supermarket packet and just lacking any substance. Rubbish. Don't bother....,

I like it! Simple cheap meals under $15! Great for a quick work lunch. I'm happy with the quality of food and service is basic but always with a smile. :)

Just don't go. Paid $11 for special noodle (hot spicy noodle soup). It was diluted instant noodle topped with lots of chilli and spicy paste. It was, yes, spicy hot but very weak taste as diluted soup. What kind of joke is this?
This isn't Japanese food at all. This is a rip-off. I never go back.
Krystle Lee
Best to avoid. Not good cheap food, you get what you pay for I suppose. Though a while ago I ordered the curry udon for $10 expecting to at least one piece of meat, but nope it didn't have anything. I've also ordered other food here and I have yet to come across a dish I really like.

Wow where to start , been here a few times was OK, then ordered the karate chicken , came out cold so I ask what's going on? They tell me sorry I'll get u new one , but I ask but its crumbed chicken why's it cold, he answer coz we make them before and just rheat for you , I say that's a joke , but he goes and takes it back and instead of cooking a fresh pre made one , he puts it in the microwave ? Go down to the kitchen and tell them I don't want it now not microwave, they look dumb founded like they can't understand English after finally telling them its sh*t I don't want it , I got a refund , we also had sushi and soup both were average 1/10 , save ur money go to kodoya for Japanese or sushi train in cbd

Sloppy service & Disrespect to food. Visited this location with the expectation of wanting to eat Ajisen Ramen - however, it turns out that Ajisen had shut down quite a while ago, therefore without a choice we settled down here to eat after a long walk as the menu seemed interesting.

The service was very awkward - there was no one at the counter and after having to wait for a long time, the waitress arrived and coldly said "order here" without a smile or greeting. It would have helped if they had some sort of sign/bell to indicate that ordering was done at the counter, and to signal for the customers at the front. After ordering the food, we proceeded to sit down in the spacious, yet decoration-less room.

The food is decently priced for a small restaurant, and arrived very quickly; however, everything about this restaurant started going downhill - the food was sloppy (ordered one of the combination seafood noodle stir-fry and the noodles were way over-cooked), and presented quite horribly (did not bother cleaning up the sides of the plates as the food arrived with splatters on the sides). The miso ramen that was also ordered was average, though the soup was quite salty and the need to chug down extra amounts of water was required.

Overall, the service was terrible (no introductions to newcomers and absolutely no feeling of being welcomed here), and the food was so-so. May visit here in the future for the sushi, but not for any of the noodle dishes despite my preference for noodles over rice. I do miss the days where Ajisen had this location in its glory.

Disclaimer: this review is based on my personal experience to this restaurant. I am no way personally attacking the staff/restaurant - I merely want to see an improvement with my next visit to this place.

By far, THE best sushi Brisbane town has to offer. LOVE this place!!

Went with a voucher. They need to pick up their game sure, but our food came quickly and with a smile. Had curry chicken and spicy prawns. Both nice, hot and generous. Chicken was a but thin but ok. Salad that came with was lovely. Miso was fine and tea steaming hot (can't stand cold tea). Could be better but trying hard. Restaurant was pristine clean.
Meg Martin
Absolutely terrible- had the katsudon. The egg was microwaved onto the chicken and the chicken was a soggy mess
Sim.rich82
Terrible. I ordered the Tendon, obviously pre-cooked as it was cold and soggy. The vegetable tempura was 95% onion with a few shreds of carrot and beans. I won’t be eating here again.

This place is a disgrace & will not last long. I can't wait for it to be replaced with a restaurant who knows how important good service is (or any service). The menu is limited, without gluten-free options & limited vegetarian choices. There is free water available but was empty . I will not return
Brisbane Jap
Terrible service/food. I am Japanese, so I know what Japanese food should look and tast like and what it should cost.
My partner and I went to lunch to dine in. I was looking forward to a nice meal. However, first of all, we had to wait for a 5 of minutes to order, as no one was at the front counter. If the shop was busy, I would understand but it's wasn't (Saturday afternoon and. not many people ). I looked around the tables, most of the empty tables were covered with empty dishes and obviously staff were not cleaning them.. Finally one of staff came and took our orders. We ordered Tendon and Seafood Ramen, but the food was not good at all.It wat not hot and I think the meal was microwaved. The tempura was not crispy, the mussels in the ramen was under cooked and it was a small serving for $ 13.00 (which would have only cost $ 6.00 or $ 8.00 in Japan) we helped ourselves to a jug of free water, but it wasn't even cold.. I was reallly disapppointed with my lunch, especially i paid $10.00 for the tendon & $13.00 for the ramen. Don't eat here, nothing good to say about this place. I won't go again.

Meh - I have been twice now. Most recently ordered Karaage Chicken Don which came out quickly but was cold. Recycled? Yuck. Very basic menu, not authentic Japanese IMHO
Costas Bounas
Not Impressed. Been 3 times now and they have struck out three times. Everything from receiving the wrong dish to being served cold stale food that resembled possibly yesterday's leftovers. Ridiculous surcharges on credit / eftpos transactions too... even over $10.
PorkChopPickle
Went on a Monday lunch time. Was about half full. I had chicken katsu. Sauce was a bit thin, but could amount of red pickles which I really like. Don't think I would go again.
Dave
Very average. Clearly not Japanese. The ramen stock resembles something you might get from a packet of maggi noodles. Won't be heading back to try anything else.
Ian Ho
It's.... ho hum. Had the Shyoramen - $10. The shop is Korean managed and staffed (not a hint of any Japanese around).

Soup - just an ordinary clear stock, nothing special (or what you would expect from a ramen)

Noodles - were like expensive instant noodles

Accompaniments - 5 green beans and two not very exciting slices of pork (may have been roast pork?)

Decor - very cool! This is the best thing about the place, like most Korean-based places around Brisbane this one has also been designed quite well.

Service & atmosphere - poor. The staff were wandering around aimlessly and there was no airconditioning (it was a really hot day when I went).

Bottom line: Don't go out of your way for it.
Steve L
Very average katsudon. Came here at lunch for takeaway Chicken Katsudon as I work nearby. I would say that the Chicken Katsudon was not very tasty. It lacked sauce and flavour. There wasn't enough egg and I even found a bit of egg shell in my meal!

I'll come back for dine-in (and another dish) before I vote on this restaurant.
Tammy
The interior is almost awkwardly spacious, but this only means that those who work in the city don't have to wait in line to grab a quit bite here during busy lunch hours. The prices are reasonably cheap, especially for Brisbane - so we were a bit apprehensive about the quality and quantity of food that we would be receiving - but I was pleasantly satisfied with what I got.
TIFFIN Bite Sized
Ordering is done from a pick and point illustrated menu at the front counter as you walk in. There are rice bowls as well as a couple of more expensive Bento options. The restaurant is enormous with plenty of small tables as well as two very large share tables. Each time I've visited, the place has only been half full so getting a seat or your meal shouldn't be a problem.
