Review The Journey - Brisbane

Great food. I like the little buzzer at the table to request service for a drink or meal order. This allows you to be left alone and the staff concentrate on their jobs without overcrowding diners for meal orders. Really enjoyed the spicy chicken on a rack and the fried tofu was also yummy. Thanks restaurant is clean and hygienic. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The meal sizes are huge. I would eat here again.

This restaurant has various foods from rice based, soup and noodles. The BBQ set options are really good value. They also have lunch specials where all the foods price mostly are 10 dollars. The interior is average and coul be better. Still it's a good option for quick lunch or casual dinner.

Awesome good and great serving size. Got it pretty quick, ordered one of their lunch specials. Went there as part of a team lunch, and everyone got served fast and all liked the food. Lots of seating and some private room kind of spots as well. Do call and book in advance if you want a large table as its mostly full

Great restaurant with fair prices and and a wide variety of Korean dishes. While I have only tried two if the affordable lunch specials, I can say that the flavour and presentation is far beyond what the price would typically require. The restaurant itself is quite pleasant, although the lighting is somewhat dim and the sound system is strangely muffled, as if the speakers are damaged. These two elements mean that the atmosphere is slightly off kilter, but the flavour and care put into the dishes makes this a side issue. The wait staff are fast and polite and welcoming. One thing to note is that there is some sort of surcharge applied to card payments that is unclear. I had a bill of $15.00 but there was a surcharge of 0.45¢ just to make this payment.

Nice Korean restaurant in Brisbane city! We are from Canberra and had nice Korean lunch here which we don’t get it in Canberra. We had the cold noodles and spicy pork bibimbap. They were all good! They have some good specials, it will be really nice to have dinner and drink at the same time.

Nice Korean resturant, price is reasonable, good portion size, taste is clean. The staff move like high speed robots. The place pumps Kpop and has plenty of Tv screens for people who are into that.

Lunch specials are really good value for money and delicious. I suggest the Kimchi stew. It comes with rice and banchan which make it a full meal. Great for only $10

I stopped by here for a quick lunch and was quite satisfied with the service. I had bean paste stew souq with beef and deep fried shrimp from special lunch menu. Generally speaking, portion is fair with complimentary banchan as in the picture, food is hot with acceptable waiting time, free water is available like any Korean restaurant. I like the rich and tasty flavour of the bean soup. Deep fried shrimp is somewhat disappointing for its lack of freshness. However, the crispy coat saves this dish. Helpful staff and reasonable price. Spacious seating area also.

Among the established Korean Restaurants in Brisbane City, one that has been around for a fairly long time, but I just hadn't had the opportunity to try out was The Journey, which is situated along Mary Street, not too far from my workplace. Went there on a weekend to meet up with a friend who had been out of town for a period of time for an informal catch up.

The food was amazing such a good price everything on the menu is fantastic I havnt had something I don’t like. There pricing is some of the best in Brisbane the service is always friendly and prompt there is nothing I don’t like about this place if I could give 6 stars I would. The best Korean in Brisbane hands down

The Journey is a good Korean restaurant that has various menus especially single portion dishes. I have tried some of them, they are quite decent, but some of them were also kinda hit-and-miss for me. However, they gave enormous portion for every dishes that I’ve tried with fairly cheap prices.<br/><br/>Pork Katsu with Cheese: The pork katsu was quite big and the cheese and katsu sauce was covering most of the pork katsu. This dish screams calories with the rice, fries, cheese, and pork katsu. The katsu+cheese combo was really good. However, this dish was very greasy that can make you full easily. The katsu also got soggy quite easily since the sauce’s already soaked in.<br/><br/>Pork Belly Kimchi Bibimbab: The red pepper powder flavour was a bit overpowering in this dish. The kimchi already had significant amount of red pepper powder so the spicy peppery flavour was a bit strong on this dish. <br/><br/>Kimchi Cheese Bibimbab: I was curious about this dish and I quickly realized this dish was not for me 😂 The cheese was overflowed and totally dominating this dish. As much as I love cheese, the cheese was too much, plus the big portion of rice with cheese combo makes the dish so greasy that kimchi could not counter that.<br/><br/>Stir-fried Spicy Seafood Noodle: This dish also used lots of red pepper powder. If you like the taste of red pepper powder, you would like this dish. It also had lots of seafood and quite a big portion.<br/><br/>Tempura Platter: It’s a nice platter for two people. It has tempura, spring roll, calamari, prawn twister, and squid stick. It’s a good platter, but some of the platter tasted a bit too floury.<br/><br/><br/><br/>
Spice Is Life
Spent the morning at the Botanic Gardens and came for lunch after. The lunch special menu was on, so my wife and I each chose our dish. I had the Spicy Pork Bibimbap and she had the Sweet Chilli Chicken.<br/><br/>At $10 each dish, this lunch special had huge portions and was incredible value. The staff were also generous enough to refill our kimchi and onion sides multiple times. We will definitely be back!

Not a bad bbq but not great, I guess there are other Korean options in the city that I prefer. The BBQ set options are pretty good value, but its let down a bit by the other mediocre dishes, e.g. bland bean paste stew. The interior could be designed better, tables are stuck too close together. Still, not a bad option if you want a quick lunch or bbq dinner.

Went here for the first time during a weekday. Service was super fast and we received our meals very quickly. I ordered the garlic chicken with rice and chips and really enjoyed it. We also ordered the glass noodles with beef and some meat to bbq. Everything was flavoursome! Will be back!

I have eaten lunch here about 5 times the past six months, always will colleagues. The $10 lunch menu really hits the spot. I always intend to try something else but always end up with the spicy pork with rice. It’s a generous serving and I like the little side salad and pickled vege extras. The spice is probably on the mild to medium side but is great for me. I don’t like to eat really spicy food at work - not very sociable. My dining companions have ordered other dishes which they have said are also very nice. And you can get a side if gyoza got $3.50. They are nice but I never have room. <br/><br/>The service is somewhat perfunctory but not problematic. I usually have $10 cash in me so haven’t experienced any issues with paying and bill splitting... but I find many places aren’t super accomodating with bill splitting so I don’t expect it. The food comes out quickly. <br/><br/>I’m somewhat bemused by the polarising reviews from other diners. I think it’s pretty good and is a regular lunch spot as it ticks a lot of boxes in cheap, quick, tasty. It’s not fine dining and you wouldn’t go here for the “dining experience” but I think if you calibrate your expectations you can have an enjoyable meal! I’m hovering between a 3 & 4 Star review. Don’t know what happened to the half stars. I reckon it’s at least 3.5 Stars. <br/><br/>Mmmmmm spicy pork!

Worst Spicy Pork I’ve ever had. I’ve been here a lot of times but this time the spicy pork which I order every time . Tasted absolutely disgusting!!!!<br/>I’ve told the Manager about the food. She tasted the food and confidently defended her food as it is really good and did not bring NEW One as for sorry. As for a customer who has been here on many occasions I’ve never met a staff treat customer so rudely with accusation of my taste is wrong with the food. She kept arguing and got angry and defending her food.. obviously she does not know anything about customer service! Terrible! Still had to pay is the worst part .. Good luck to future business and customers

Got an account just to comment on this restaurant!!!!!<br/>The noodles that we tried today was overcooked and their attitude was so disrespectful to the customers after we told them about the food. The manager talked to us after drinking and staffs are disrespectful! Never seen a case like that before! Go if you want to have bad attitudes, no cancellation policy! they don’t even get you another dishes if you feel there is something wrong with yours and chef thinks everything is good!!!!

All the set menu dishes are great value for money. Don't go for BBQ though, they have electric hot plates that don't get very hot where they put a sheet of baking paper down, making it even worse. The meat simply goes brown and soft after about 20 minutes. I could get the same result from a microwave. Also heinously overpriced for BBQ. Just stick with the set menu and you'll have a great time!

Spicy soft tofu with seafood stew was delicious... and soy marinated grilled pork was beyond amazing. In addition, the food was served pretty quick. will definitely go back.

Stopped by here for a business meeting and life chat with a friend on a Sunday night and the brisk trade and swift service were a good sign. The pork belly, seafood soup and rice for two with vegie condiments was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The wambok leaves as edible plates were a nice touch too as it made a South Korean dish more like Chinese San Choy Bow. Liked the tart-vinegar of the black raspberry wine too. Would recommend.

I would not recommend coming here. The servers seemed racist towards anyone who didn't speak their language. They prioritised everyone else over us even if we had arrived first. <br/>We were quick to order and the restaurant wasn't even busy at the time BUT somehow our food took a long time to come out. Our seafood pancake arrived before our meat and the sheet of baking paper over the grill was starting to burn. <br/>When the food arrived, I was annoyed because of how small the portions were. The meat is ridiculously overpriced and not worth the money. Plus we only received 3 side dishes. I don't count sliced garlic as a side. <br/>One last thing.. DO NOT trust the photos on the slide show that is displayed. The food the advertise isn't even what they offer - false advertising in my opinion. <br/><br/>The only reason I gave this place a rating is because the seafood pancake was decent.

Great food (soups and stews especially), prompt service and the owner is a lovely helpful lady. Only negative - uncomfortable metal chopsticks :(<br/>Def worth a meal here.

It is located at the corner of Charlotte Street in Brisbane. The restaurant is a cosy and well-designed interiorally. The meals were sooo big! I have never had a single meal that I never finished on my own. But I struggled to finish this one meal. Super large for it's price. Well cooked meal, took a bit longer than expected, but the meal was worth the wait :) Great place for a decent meal!

A relative of mine once said that his dad likes going to Korean places because of all the "free stuff" they give you as part of your meal. Not a fan of that stuff myself, but I have a real weakness for Korean Fried Chicken. I don't care much for the other Korean stuff like bong-bipmap or whatever it's called, or that slimy Kimchi stuff. But fried chicken? Give me a bucket and leave me alone.  I've visited this place a couple of times whilst in Brisbane for work as it's near the place I always stay.  I've twice now consumed pretty much an entire serving of their deep fried chicken with eschalots. It's great and yes you feel like an absolute pig once you're done - but it's worth it.

I have been frequenting this restaurant for some time now and generally like their food.  Unfortunately, things have gone a bit downhill in recent months.<br/><br/>I am a big fan of BBQ and this restaurant gives you free reign to cook to your liking. <br/><br/>The prices have been jacked so expect to pay a minimum of $70 for their smallest BBQ platter. Check their menu before deciding to come here for the BBQ.<br/><br/>Their staff are reliably inconsistent with payment methods. Do not come here if you are with a group of people and you haven't sorted cash splits out beforehand. You have a 30% chance that some of the staff will split the bill into different meals without any issue but the remaining 70% of staff will refuse to accept payment from more than 1 person. Also, Cash OR card (just to make it hard).   <br/><br/>I would recommend avoiding Journey if you want value for money and don't like being lumped with one bill per table (it's the equivalent of nandos telling you to have 1 bill per table - what rubbish).

I truly love Korean BBQ and have a fair amount of experience eating, cooking and learning about Korean food.<br/><br/>I must say I was very disappointed. The food was fairly bland, the service was patchy and the Kimchi pancake was not good at all. I can't believe this place gets busy. I would say though that the decor and ambience is quite good but I do believe there are better options out there.

I like my spicy pork tofu soup, and kimchi pancake. My friend's cold noodle soup with raw beef looks great too. We definitely come back for food and try BBQ next time.

We had meat menu for 2 which came with a variety of meats and soy bean soup. Decent meat and decent servings with decent service. We left satisfied. The owner lady looked very stresssed last time but she seemed better this time. Its important that the owner puts on a relaxed front for a pleasant customer experience.

It used to be a korean BBQ place previously for the same spot, but since is new we gotta try it out, we ordered the $110 meals to share over us 6, which u don't have an option to choose but there comes with 3 types of BBQ meat and 2 kinds of wagyu beef. plus two hot pots of soup with our choices. we think is just enough for 6. we already added one pancake for entree, but maybe we need to add one more next time. it was busy on a friday night, but if u get in a little earlier at 630 if you are a large group u will still be able to get a table without reservation.

Cute Korean with authentic food. Some interesting vegetarian options. Great service, attentive friendly. Partner enjoyed the carnivore side of things, commented on the quality of the meat

Ill-Prepared for a Busy Night. Went there with some friends after the football on Saturday night, and while the food looked good the management seemed to have lacked preparation for the busy night that faced them on a night when Australia were playing South Korea in the Asian Cup at Suncorp Stadium. <br/><br/>We went after the match to get some dinner, on the recommendation of a friend that went with us. When we arrived they were obviously quite busy and kindly moved a couple of tables together so our group could dine inside. We were told the meals could take up to 40 mins, which was understandable, so we ordered our meals and a few beers and relaxed in the air con. <br/><br/>The first mistake was not bringing out one of our beers, then coming back 10 minutes later and telling us there were none of that particular beer available. Fine, we ordered a replacement. This beer never came. So we asked for it again, to find out later an extra beer had been added to the bill that we hadn't received. Ok, mistakes sometimes happen. <br/><br/>The biggest dampener on the evening though was waiting for 40 minutes for one of our mains, only to have the waitress come out and tell us, after waiting for that length of time, that the main wasn't available and we'd have to order something else. It highlighted a complete lack of organisation, clearly nobody is keeping track of how may orders are made for each dish (and how much of that dish they have left) until the time comes to actually make it. So I ended up with no dinner at 11:00 at night after waiting for 40 minutes. Nibbled on others meals (as another reviewer has said, they are quite large so there was a bit to go around). The fried chicken was underwhelming, but the spicy chicken soup not bad. Can't comment on the galbi as that's what I ordered, waited for, and never got in the end.<br/><br/>On what I managed to taste, and the experience with the complete lack of organisation, personally I wouldn't go back. Unfortunately you lose customers when you can't sort yourself out and anticipate you might actually get busy when the football is in town. Going on how many people were there it must have something though, and they probably won't miss me.

Hite!. On the hottest day of the year thus far the thought of cold beer and air con lead us into Journey. Some would question how a Korean BBQ would cool you down but don't be fooled, it's worth the effort. Having frequented several Korean BBQs around town Journey would be my pick of the bunch by far. Funky decor, cute little K-pop pumping booths and friendly endearing service compliment the food which is freaking delicious! $18 for a bulgogi bbq set, it was more food than I could handle and tasted soooo good. My companion enjoyed his Kimchi stew but the BBQ is the real star here. Grab a soju and enjoy!

We passed Journey on our way to another restaurant. The interior and smell coming out of the restaurant attracted us to abandon our trip to the original destination. From the moment we walked in staff were extremely friendly and attentive. They refilled our greens and snacks and we got some free green ice tea which tasted like it was freshly made. The quality of the meat was sensational. This will absolutely become part of our regular food places to go.
